Then he became possessed in overtime and took off. The one major issue that has plagued this team has been Sark getting way too fucking cute during big leads. It almost finally caught up to him today but Quinn, Golden, and defense bailed him out. Defense played 97 fucking snaps total, that's why too much no matter how great they are. O-Line also needs to stop making stupid false starts too.

For personally, all I wanted was for Texas to get back to final four teams, anything else for me is cherry on top, do I want them to win it all.. yea, but dealing what most of us had to deal with from 2010-2021 with Texas this has been a breath of fresh air.

What about the illegal pull of the O-line on Scattebo into the endzone in first OT? What about the obvious OPI on Scattebo? They also seem to forget, ASU had countless time to take over the game when they had the ball for an entire quarter and only scored 5 points. They also had a mental lapse on 3 straight passing plays in both OTs, all they had to do is two safeties deep on a 4th and 13. This is why I hate hypotheticals because we will never know, no matter if you're on the side of it being a targeting or good no call both teams had chances to win in the end.

based on the rules, taaffe's hit had a very good case for not being targeting. the area where his helmet made contact was not the "crown" per definition, it looked more like the initial contact was with the facemask. and since there was no launch, crouch, or lowering of the head to hit with the helmet, his hit became part of the subjective area. targeting is defined as "a player takes aim at an opponent for purposes of attacking with forcible contact that goes beyond making a legal tackle or a legal block or playing the ball."

taaffes hit likely looked like a legal tackle to those officials. in my eye, it looked like he was using his chest to tackle. helmet-to-helmet contact does not instantly qualify as targeting.

If anyone thinks they know what targeting is given what this says and what happened, they are wrong.
Launching, Crown of helmet, etc... Its just not clear in the UT game except that the kid got blown up.
I saw targeting numerous times if its launching and crown of helmet AWAY from the ball.

This rule can be every bit as hard as pass interference which is also people can claim they know it, and they dont. Because there are so many plays are not clear.
Take the Taffee - Skat pass play where Skat caught the ball and Taffee tore his helmet off in order to tackle him. Look at the called interference. I can make a case both ways. It did not matter, but the point is these are very difficult to call. Because the rules go through a number of criteria that we are not sure about if they took place, and to make it worse, which criteria met count. One cant say any crouch yields a targeting. So what is it... I also dont personally want to see a bunch of angles 5 different times. Make the rules clear. We also had a receiver get his jersey pulled out and hung onto on a route and thats not holding. The announcers said thats holding but its not clalled. OK so grabbing the jersey of a receiver on a route is not holding, so you actually have to grab a body Part. Clearer language with clinics to show each team what is and is not a penalty. And yes we understand some will be missed.

Also the networks are way too with cozy specific conferences which is bound to light conspiracy theories even if they do not exist. ESPN and the SEC are clearly tight financially. Does it come to point that it filters down to the refs to try to make certain games work for entertainment purposes...
