Really wish Hanlan got the two-way over Hillard. Hillard has been fine, but I don't like the message the Spurs have been sending their prospects lately. Everything from the confusion with Hanga to not playing Bertans to de Colo wanting out to them fucking up on Milutinov -- I wouldn't want the Spurs to be holding my rights right now. Hanlan and Blossomgame should have gotten the deals, or if not them a guy like Cady. That's what the deals are for: paying guys to be in the d-league who might have otherwise gone/stayed overseas.

I give you Hanlan. He's been solid since summer league. Very steady hand at point, plays big, and somewhat versatile. He's kind of a jack of all trades type as a combo guard. I like his game a lot. We are set at guard for the near future so I wonder how he figures in.
Nothing too exciting in these highlights but it's good to see him being more aggressive and shooting well:

I have seen comments in SBNation that state if you are going to play in the Gleague it’s better to be a FA anyways so that you have chances to get called up by any team instead of just the one team which may not have roster spots. So Hanlan, Blossomgame and the like are f*cked. They aren’t getting the 2 way deal, they aren’t going to get called up by the Spurs when the 2 way deals are there, and other teams can’t call them up either. They are long shots unlikely to make it even if they were free, but one never knows, injuries affect teams and they start calling up gleague prospects.

If they wanted to be free agents all they had to do was force the tender offer before the season. Playing in Austin is their choice.

Hanlan and Castello have been the guys who have stood out. The one thing on this team is that all the players are pretty decent.

I'm hoping that the guys with athleticism and talent learn the skills to excel in the NBA. Spurs have been able to develop lots of players like Jamychal Green and JSimms who have the athleticism and now the skills to do well in the NBA. Just too bad we couldn't keep either of them. However, I'm pretty stoked about acquiring Rudy Gay in the freemarket for cheap. I don't think you can get Rudy Gay talent coming from the G-league.

He's got the length that Spurs love. He could turn out to be a Dedmon clone. Which wouldn't be that bad!

The only reason I watched was to see how he would play. He didn’t play Costello started and was suprised how smart and good he was just wish he was a little taller. As far as the Bull he is like Murray to an extent talented but needs playing time and bulk up. Hopefully he gets playing time and grows to his potential

He has outside shooting, but his release is a little low. I’ve seen them get blocked. But he can defend the post, a rebounder, shot blocker and can out sprint everyone every time on fast breaks. He seems to have a good attitude. Spurs can use him

Another awesome performance by Hanlan, the rightful owner of that two way.
So what are chances of seeing the front office replace any of the two way players? I not getting my hopes up but the deadline for signing two way contracts is January 15th. Hilliard has been bad and Costello hasn't even made it past one appearance so far. If he can't even get spot minutes with Lauvergne playing like trash there's no point in keeping him around.
I kind of like Landry Nnoko. I remember him playing some decent defense in his Summer League stint. He seems like a solid defensive center who isn't completely useless on the other end. I don't expect a rotation player to show up but it would be nice to have someone who can at least challenge Lauvergne for spot minutes.

Pop is saving Costello. Dude was fine with the Spurs and very good with the Toros. Hillard has been about as good as a two-way guy should be expected to be. I don't see any reason to replace either now.
Saving Costello for what exactly? Just to be clear those 45 days are counted as games played right? We are at the half way mark of the season so he should be able to play in every single remaining game if needed. Please correct me if I'm wrong.
Hilliard has a negative PER (yeah PER sucks but that's usually a bad sign) and his defense hasn't been much better for a guy who is supposed to be solid on that end. I don't want to judge him prematurely but he has shown nothing so far.

Costello has already used a few days even though he's only played one game. It's not just games; it's technically any day they are with the team, so road trips would likely include all the days the team is gone, for example.
I see. So he is just injury insurance at this point, that's a shame.

Blossom needs to get more defensive stats. His offense isn't superlative enough to be NBA-caliber yet. The rebounding is really nice, but he needs the blocks and steals to go along with them, or else he's an awkward niche player. He's not an elite athlete either.
palangi

I can't tell if you are talking about Jaron Blossomgame or Danny green? Your irreplaceable player.
Sure he doesn't get blocks like green but he does rebound (you can't down play this) much better than green. He is getting steals at an equal rate to green. But here is a huge difference... Blossomgame can dribble and make layups!
And I bet you would see his blocks go up if he was playing SF/SG and not just PF like he is in Austin.
r0drig0lac

he is certainly more "ready" for the NBA, than half of the current roster, for the simple fact of having athletics and size of a real basketball player

White needs extended time in the d-league so we can see what they have in him. That's a decent but not great line from him. He should be almost threatening a triple-double there by the time he's an NBA-caliber rotation player. As I've said before, I really would like see Blossomgame pick up more defensive stats with the Toros. He's not making in the NBA on his offense alone. Hanlan has been pretty streaky this season. It's a damned shame he has not path at all to a rotation spot. He'd be a good Forbes replacement next season.

White is not even big enough to guard NBA 2s, though he’d make a good combo guard.

I'd like to see Blossomgame, Brihma, and Hilliard called up.
They have a full roster of 15, plus their 2 two way contracts. They can’t call up anyone but Hilliard and Costello with cutting someone, and they’re not cutting someone for a look-see.

The perspective is that the two way contracts are your 16th and 17th man, and no other team wanted them on their roster this year. Don’t expect anything.

He’s doing all that in the frikkin g-league, which is probably below NCAA competition. Danny Green was a god in the d-league.

I disagree. The g-league is really only beneficial if you think you have a shot THIS YEAR. The money and competitive level are FAR higher in Europe. Standard g-league money is like 30K. You can easily make ten times that much in Europe, and the competition is better. If you’re not on a teams radar, the best way to get there is Europe. They’ll actually coach you, teach you, and play you in the second best league in the world, if you make Euroleague. Even Eurocup is better competition than the g-league.

I don't think we'll see all five of the top guards back next season. But even if they do have them all, Forbes walking and Paul being a possible cut makes getting another guard a good play. Hanlan wouldn't cost a pick and is under team control for three years. I think they could lock him in for a Neal-like deal and have him through the ends of everyone's contracts. One of the team's big problems recently is that they haven't been able to keep players who are outside their top 10 for more than two seasons. That's made "next man up" significantly harder. If you have a chance to get long-term deals for cheap players with upside and marketable skills, you do it and let everything sort itself out later.

He was an odd signing. The Spurs clearly seem to be using the two-ways in a different way than I think they were intended, and it kind of sucks. I thought the contracts were supposed to be a way to keep prospects in the States rather than having them go overseas. But the team is just using the contracts as 16th and 17th men while having guys like Hanlan and Blossomgame on d-league deals. The league and union likely agreed to this to get around situations like Cady and Huestis (not that the latter could have signed a two-way deal anyway). I have no idea why Jaron's and Olivier's agents didn't push for the bigger deals. But SA has always been underratedly shitty when it comes to contracts.

I'm not sure Hanlan was considered flotsam by PATFO. He was a mid-second-rounder. The Jazz could have easily given a top-55 protected pick instead like Atlanta did. I'd go as far as to say the Spurs cared more about Hanlan than they did about Blossomgame.

I was worried about him at the beginning of the season he wasn’t getting much playing but that has slowly changed. One huge reason we could see his numbers go up is that White does a great job of getting into the paint and handing nice passes for easy dunks. Well I shouldn’t say easy as you know how many Spurs players have screwed that up Errors , Paul ext. I agree he is going to need another year of gaining muscle him and Murray better be lifting pals this whole summer. Take some damn protein shakes and Creatin for Gods sake. But I think he can make the team as far as getting some playing time next season I do love his blocking ability
i would also also have to say that Castillo has played good and is a better rebounder and in all honesty he is better then LVg. The only problem he has is his height I think he is 6”9 or “10. Which is to small
LJC is showing some signs of life in these last couple of games, strong rebounding and improved touch on mid range shots. He has played as the starting C in the games where Costello is not with the team.

Isn’t he a PG? But yeah Pop got to figure out what he is going to do with all of these PG/SG.
Tony - Clearly no longer starter material but still a decent savvy vet
Mills - A small SG who game is only three ball who has a big contract but a good character guy but a bad defender
Forbes - Another small SG who has a good three ball and decent handles with a mid range game so so defender
Murray - Is the exact opposite of the top three very athletic great rebounder but a terrible shooter also very good defender
White - I think he has very good ball handling skills second only to tony he I think a better passer and creator at this point. I think he is can get minutes at PG or SG but I would play him at PG.

I still haven't quite figured out how Livio didn't get a two-way, though to be fair, he would have been third in my line after Hanlan and Blossomgame. The Spurs no longer have his rights, so it's not like they'd lose anything by having him sitting on the bench over Costello (who is also a good player btb). It seems pretty clear that LJC and the Spurs worked something out there they'd waive him while keeping him in the d-league for the time his guaranteed money ran. If that's the case, then it would have just made sense to make that assignment official by giving him the two-way designation. Hopefully, if Livio is in the team's long-term plans, they get to sign him rather than him being poached.
Incidentally, a lot of the highlights have him referred to as a "seven-footer". LJC was listed at 6-8/6-9 during the draft, so did he grow, or are people just getting more blatant rounding up heights? The former would not surprise me, as LJC is deceptively young. To put it into perspective, Livio is younger than Forbes and less than a year older than White and Blossomgame. By no means is he too old to be in Pop's plans.

Livio still had a strong game.
He reminds me of the bruno caboclo draft. Size athleticism and lenght plus very young when drafted but he was "2 years away from being 2years away".
Like Bruno, perhaps they are still young enough that maybe they can be a late bloomer.
He appears to be playing better than last year. He needs to get on team's radars with a good summer league showing.

The difference with caboclo, correct me if i’m Wrong, is that Livio was killed by his acl injury. He lost his athletism wich was one of his biggest strenght.
He seems to refind his physical tools.

Him repeatedly spacing to 18-20 instead of 3 and jacking long mid rangers like Parker, Anderson, Aldridge, etc. This organization refuses to get with the times.

Guess we'll see. But no point in hanging around the Spurs for that G-League money when he knows no he won't get a 10 day from the Patty Spurs. Might as well go make what he can and showcase for the other Euro teams.

I was hopeful about him but he needs more seasoning I think for his career going over seas is a good option for him.
Blossom is having some good games and the kid is a great rebounder. I wonder as one poster said having Kawhi play SG and Blossom at SF would that work?
One thing I have noticed is that after Livio had several good games double digits scoring and rebounding his minutes have been reduced to about 15 a game. But while his scoring is down from obvious reduced minutes his percentage is still really good as well as rebounding.
White continues to put up 20 pats a game and it’s easy to see he belongs in the NBA and will be getting minutes next year.
LJC signed a two month deal with Unicaja Malaga: http://www.eurohoops.net/en/acb/638060/unicaja-malaga-officially-signed-livio-jean-charles-short-term-deal/
Decent team, currently 8th place in the ACB (lowest playoff seed), still 9 games left to play in the regular season.
His first two games were unimpressive. Not easy to adjust to a completely different style of play at this point of the season.

CoJo and Kyle both participated in the Toros postseason their rook years. Their teams were good enough to make it to the gleague postseason though.
Last season the gleague team didn't make the postseason so Forbes and Dijon didn't get that opportunity.
White played in an elimination game with the team so I think he's getting his chance.
Next April 5 is their next game and it's a single elimination game in that round too.
Only the Gleague finals are 3 games (it used to be each round was the best 2 of 3 games--a mini series, but no more). He will be done playing, even if the Toros make the finals, b4 the NBA playoffs start.

Even if White is the best option to start at SG, it more than likely wouldn't happen until Parker retires (not by choice, but I actually think that might be sooner than his goal of 3 more seasons) because that would leave a Mills-Parker backup back court, which makes no sense.
The thing is, this back court is so bad that there isn't a single legit starter or closer in it right now, so White should have the opportunity to play roughly 20 mpg next season and occasionally close. He might even be able to work his way up to a virtual split with Mills.

Umm. Parker is getting like 10 min a game now. It depends on Patty. He is our starting sg and we have 50 mill invested in his contract. Then we have Danny Green. He likely is gone. Going to take a one year 15 mill deal somewhere. Forbes will likely be a bench guy next year. Hopefully they trade Mills and Gasol somehow.

Which teams have $15mm of cap space to throw at Green? Only one team (ATL) has that actual space, and only eight teams have that much space if they renounced all of their cap holds. I’m excluding the Rockets from the list as they need to pay Paul and they’ll operate over cap:
Nets - likely will find a way to $20mm of space but limited given they took on bad contracts to get prospects attached to them. I know Marks/Atkinson is an old Spurs duo and Danny is a NY guy, but just don’t see them locking him up, and instead will take on bad salaries for assets.
Kings - also will be in the $20mm range
Mags - $20mm or so as well. Cuban would love to take a swipe at Pop but think they spend on younger guys.
Sixers - best fit out there and will create a lot of space if they don’t retain Redick. But they have bigger ambitions.
Bulls - will have to retain Vonleh and Lavine, but will have space after doing so. But probably in market for a star to add to their supporting cast.
Lakers - tons of room. But we know their motives.
Could Green sign a one year deal at bigger than his $10mm option? Sure. But there isn’t a lot of money out there able to pay that kind of money, and there will be a lot of players looking for it.

To score 35 pts in a Playoff game is pretty damn impressive and playing against a very good team. I am on White bandwagon and yeah he better be getting minutes next year on Spurs team. You can give him minutes at PG and give him minutes at SG a little bit like Manu. It’s easy to see that he was easily the best player on the court last night he is just so smooth and he has a sweet stroke.
I like that him and Murray can play together and I love both players I still think Murray will continue to improve next year. No way should they be the third our fourth string players they need to be first and second at PG. It’s a business Pop and RC do the right thing and let Tony retire and be a coach/scout/manager.
Have to add that Hillard and Johnson have had a good season and these three players are the top of the Toros talent pool.

Thank you good sir
He has a pretty quick release. That should translate well at the next level, moves well without the ball, decent defender, good court vision, has showed some decent passing.
honestly he looks like he would be the best guard on the team if brought up. Obviously that isn’t saying a hell of a lot with our shit guard rotation. Would love to see a SL of him and Murray at the 1 and 2. Unfourtanetly we have two undersized shit stains who won’t be able to play together off the bench, so that isn’t really plausible at the moment

If White does become sg, it would make a lot of sense to pay DG since it would likely mean Mills and Forbes off the bench. Have a feeling Spurs are calling Mills a legacy untraceable. Would like to trade him to pick up some size.

Nice that there are some people around here who actually understand that this year’s market is very different than last year’s, and FA money is about to get much tighter / less movement. I also think KCP and Hill were seen as potential 2-way playmakers (probably flawed thinking) vs. Green being slightly flawed albeit very useful. And his age has to spook people from a long deal.

Not necessarily.
He should earn more per year compared to a G-League or two-way contract but most likely still quite a bit less than a minimum NBA contract. Bertans was only promising under the premise that he would be one of the better spot up shooters in the league given his height, quick release, and ability to move around. Not a great defender but has enough effort/athleticism to make plays here and there.
But if he's not going to be among the league leaders in 3pt%, that intrigue fades pretty quick.
LJC never looked like an NBA player. :cry but det one hoops summit game :cry
i have no hopes for blossomgame either. metu showing a jump shot is very intriguing though. he's a much better prospect than cady was
But for catastrophic leg injury. I know you you may just be omitting small details but I hate when posters imply that players like John Charles and James Anderson were not good picks when they were good pre injury prospects. It just shows lack of empathy and ignorance

from what i remember it was characterized as a severe sprain. not even something like an ACL tear. which happened to bertans twice. he was drafted after a season where he put up averages like 3 points and 3 rebounds per game in the french league which isn't particularly loaded with talent.
he wasn't some hyper athletic prospect at the time he was drafted that was suddenly sapped of his athletic ability that he never recovered. he always had a good frame/wingspan and moved well for his size, but he wasn't some generational athlete. spurs wanted to go with a draft and stash at the time, and the guy wouldn't have been on the radar but for the hoops summit game

San Antonio Spurs 2013 NBA Draft pick Livio Jean-Charles underwent surgery to repair his torn right knee ACL yesterday according to French site EuroSport.com.

6 month timetable from a torn ACL?
seems light
Surgery, if chosen, “takes you out for the rest of the season,” and rehabilitation lasts about six to 12 months, says Teuscher, who is also a partner at the Beaumont Bone and Joint Institute and team physician for the NCAA Division I athletic teams at Lamar University in Texas.

i'm just speaking out of memory when it comes to pro athletes... 6 months seems extraordinarily light. the quickest acl tear recovery i can remember was adrian peterson going down late december and playing the next season on opening day. that was a little more than 8 months though
but yeah if i was wrong about livio's injury than i was wrong.
the primary point i was making is that he didnt suffer the type of injury that turned him from a great athlete into a lesser one. acl tear recoveries have become fairly standard and players dont come back worse for the wear

Yeah but it still takes them time to recover also add that it takes months off their schedule of being physical fit and playing basketball. So you add that Livio was a late bloomer to basketball probably first serious injury he has ever had and then trying to make the Spurs that is a hard road to walk.
He was drafted based on that one game and to be honest he has sucked some is from injury and some he just was not ready. But I give the kid credit he is still trying to make team and even though he was not on a contract still played in Austin and to be honest he played really good. He seemed a lot more confident and was able to do multiple things as far as showing up on stats, rebounds, scoring, assist. If he can improve upon last season then it will be interesting him and Metu battling it out.
As far as White I was saying last year he should have been our PG unlike some people I won't mention names..lol

I don't think he's talking about NBA roster players, but rather players who are only on the Austin roster.
I'm not sure what his point is, though. Out of all of the years of the Toros and ASpurs, SA has groomed and developed exactly one NBA player for their own roster: Jonathon Simmons. The ASpurs function is to provide a place for NBA roster players to rehab or develop. It's not a true farm team, because most g-league players are absolute crap. It would be like if MLB had the top level farm team at the A ball level. If you're ever watching the ASpurs hoping to see a budding NBA talent who's not already on the Spurs roster, you're already wasting your time.

picks but I think Metu is going to make a case to stay on the active roster. As
far as Walker this is his second surgery on the same knee with everything that happened with KY they will be ultra conservative with his rehab. “He will NOT play in November “
Just as I was right about Josh Huestis being out for 4 months because of Jones Fracture and Yes he had surgery so even he won’t play in G League.

Apparently they are but he will not be available until late December at the earliest and coming from a Jones fracture I figure not until January, after a few GLeague games will they get a real perspective on how he's healed. Bc t the team needs help now, I don't take it for granted that he's the man. Someone else may become interesting in the GLeague instead.

Still don't know why the Spurs have got Blair in the organization again. Is this a way of evaluating if he's still an NBA player without using a slot for the big club? Or do they somehow imagine he'll be a wise old veteran to help the young ones learn what it means to be a pro?

Weird.Vets are always good to have around and won't step on young guys like Metu or Eubanks. I doubt they have any designs on his playing for the mothership, but giving him a chance to prove himself to other teams in a system he already knows is plenty.

Means Huestis signed an X-9 deal this off-season. When a guy with that kind of contract gets waived in camp, the waiving team's d-league affiliate gets dibs on signing him. Spurs waived him, Toros got to slot him in without a draft or competing with other d-league teams for his services. Affiliate contract.

With White looking so good, and Walker back relatively soon, it does make some sense to get a forward like Blossomgame on the team. In the very least, he can fill in for Pondexter. Quincy looks to be showing his new ceiling, which isn't as bad as I worried it would be but isn't good enough to keep him over a prospect.
