I hear that Madden on 360 is finally done right, but the big glitch is fumbling. I'm pickin it up later today but I'm wondering if anyone can confirm this shit about the fumbles? One review said to expect close to double digit fumble totals for both teams in a typical game.

If that's true then I may pass on it. There is no single thing that pisses me off on Madden more than a fumble.

Anyway, what I've been reading over there is that the A button the 360 switches the arm with which you carry the ball, so that might be one of the problems when getting hit on the wrong arm.

Also, that might just be the protect the ball button.

on 360, madden 08 is a definite improvement over the last 2 shitty efforts. Compared to the Madden PS2 glory days (03-05), it's still meh.

Man EA sports pissed me off. When ESPN was giving them competition they had Madden for $39. But now since they ran ESPN away for the next couple of years its back to $49 for the PS2 version.

A video game review published this week in USA Today has set off the latest tit-for-tat among the loyalists of the Xbox 360 and its rival, the PlayStation 3.
Madden from WiiMadden NFL ‘08 for the Nintendo Wii

The review of Madden NFL ‘08 noted that the football game’s action is faster when it is played on the 360 then on the PS3. The reviewer is not imagining things: Electronic Arts said the game runs at 60 frames per second on the 360 but only 30 frames per second on the PS3.

Also, Electronic Arts said that its NCAA Football ‘08, which came out this summer, also runs at twice the frame rate on the 360.

On its face, the relative sluggishness of the PS3 would appear to be counterintuitive, given its powerful processor. On the other hand, the 360 has been on the market a year longer than the PS3 — meaning game developers have had more time to configure and optimize their software for Microsoft’s machine. At least that’s what video game industry analysts are intuiting.

Electronic Arts hasn’t been quite so explicit.

In a written statement, Todd Sitrin, EA’s vice president of marketing sports branding, said that its games are tweaked in different ways to fit the different consoles.

“In designing a game, there are all sorts of tradeoffs that include frame rate, visuals, features, AI, etc. Football is an extremely challenging sport to replicate because of the number of people on the field, their interaction, and the scope of the environments. As you can see, every company making a football game this year made a decision that the best experience for the Xbox 360 included 60fps whereas the best experience for the PS3 was 30fps.”

The statement did not indicate specifically why EA had made the tradeoff for slower speeds on the PlayStation, and did not address whether EA is having more trouble developing for PS3 than for the 360. The company did not respond to follow-up questions this afternoon.

In general, the challenge of developing for the PS3, given the short time it has been available to the software makers, appears to be taking its toll elsewhere, industry analysts said. In at least three instances, video games that were once scheduled to be released on the same day for both the 360 and the PS3 will now have different release dates for the two versions, according to Evan Wilson, an industry analyst with Pacific Crest Securities.

For instance, he noted, Medal of Honor from Electronic Arts is slated to come out Aug. 28th for the 360 but in November for the PS3; the company’s game Skate is scheduled for release on Sept. 12 for the 360 and two weeks later for the PS3; Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter II from Ubisoft came out in March for the 360 and is scheduled for an Aug. 21 release for PS3.

What should PS3 owners do while they wait for those games? Find a friend with an Xbox.

I had it last year for my Wii because I wanted to try the Wii mote style of play and before that the last Madden I had was for the PSone. Back on Madden, My brother and I wanted to play online together on the same TV vs some random gamers and Madden does not allow this. WTF that some bullshit, NFL2k1 back on the Dreamcast allowed this over 56k modem and every 2k game allowed this. 2k would let you have you and 3 friends play online. We would love doing this online some one run while the other 3 block. We were shock that Madden was not able to do this.

this part just right now was intense. i jus killed 1 of the corpse slayer and get a shotgun. pick up the shotgun and ammo lying around and the lights go out. b4 i know it im gettin attacked by these slayers and shootin turning shootin. one of the slayers accidently hit another, so the other slayer beat it down and proceded to head towards me when i shocked it with my electricity then beat it down with a wrench to save ammo. crazy it was intense.

For those of you who dont know Bioshock has a pretty cool story to it. its based on and 1959 underwater city. its a haven for scientist as well as ppl who didnt want to be part of the governmental societies. when u first enter the building the (forgot his name) creator has a statue with a banner stating . more or less. no president or god. just man

well what ive gotten so far is that the scientist created plasmids that alter your genes to provide you with greater powers. ie telekineses, something like flamethower hands and electricity hands. all ive gotten so far. something about the little girls having the energy that provides these power so ppl have gone crazy and attack kids and now the city is or it seems has been destroyed.

not very well explained but this is a fun shooter game and its storyline is pretty cool.

I believe I shipped it on Aug 3rd and arrived there on Aug 9th (4 business days since I shipped on a Friday).

So it took them 8 business days to deal with it and by the time it arrives likely on the 27th, it would've been 3 weeks.

Do they replace your 360? Because I just checked their status website and my serial number changed.

First of all, there haven't been many complaints of this happening.

With a game this advanced, there are undoubtedly going to be some kinks in the initial patching and so forth. That's why they patch games -- to fix unforeseen errors.

As for their site being down, give it a few minutes. It usually bounces back. They're probably swamped with reg codes right now. Why? Because this game is being billed as one of the best PC games in history.

Madden 08 is an awesome fuckin game. little tweaks here and there. well worth it. i like that the kickin animations were cut as well as the b4 snap animations. Plus we have the updated roster. boo hoo im poor and im not bitchin about the price tag

Please. Madden 08 is a solid game for decent multiplay, but it's by no means an elite sports game. The Winning Eleven/Pro Evolution soccer series from Konami is an example of a real sports franchise that seeks to better itself every year. The 2k series of sports games has historically been much better recreating every sport.

I like Madden. I don't like watching them rake in millions upon millions of dollars every year for a game that's nominally different than the last. And sure, this game has some bigger changes -- they essentially facelifted the icons of other sports games (notably 2k sports) and jammed it onto the playing field. Try bumping the difficulty against the computer and going 16-0. It cheats. The Madden series has been out since 1992. 15 years, and still they are unable to make a competent AI that doesn't resort to cheap, impossible tactics to win games. How the hell can that be called great? They've had a decade and a half to correct this facet of the game that reeks of utter hogwash.

Instead, they shove some more options in gamers' faces. The only real innovation this year is the momentum based tackling which SHOULD have been happening 3-4 years ago.

Of all genres and platforms, the Madden series is the franchise of games that has improved the least from year to year. Don't bitch at other players because they aren't willing to throw down ANOTHER $60 on a game that should have been light-years ahead of what it is. Look at Madden on the PC -- yay Xbox graphics! Definitely a company going "all out" for the consumer. :lol

Yes. Because I'd rather them come out and make a bunch of public statements about the game rather than actually working on the problem.

Now? The game works just fine on nearly any system above the minimums.

The thing about the Oblivion launch is that the people in charge at least communicated with the customer base. 2k can't even release a simple 2 sentence statement "Sorry, autopatching servers are temporarily down" Instead, people are going through all of the suggestions in the FAQ thinking they need to delete registry keys and install this and uninstall that to get the thing working. In addition to the autopatch problems there are:

a. People who received bad activation keys and neither 2k or Securom will provide them with new ones.
b. People that have had to install the game more than twice only to find they can't install the game anymore.
c. Thousands of random crashes for those lucky enough to run the game.
d. Random sound glitches for people running Windows XP
e. All of the broken Big Daddy's people are getting

And worst of all is probably the lack of a working widescreen mode.

It doesn't matter if you pre-loaded the game from Steam or bought the CD like I did, each one has its own set of problems, not to mention all of the crap happening to people with 360 versions

For someone telling me to do my "research" (unnecessary by the way, since two games have already been mentioned that have had horrible launches), you haven't done much of yours.

Honestly, are you just trolling through the user complaints to make a case for how horrible this game is so you can feel better about yourself?

The developers designed Bioshock from a widescreen perspective. Therefore, you don't get any added width to the screen when playing in widescreen mode because it's already been accommodated for. Users on a standard 4:3 display get a bit more vertical viewing area, but their POV is not as proportionally accurate as the widescreen mode.

Unless you know some trick of physics, would you care to explain how a game could display in both widescreen and 4:3 without cropping? It's not possible. Gamers with widescreen displays (myself included), are just used to seeing more than the standard 4:3 because games have typically been designed with that ratio in mind. Bioshock is not. That doesn't mean there is "no widescreen", it just means the widescreen was there before you set it. The losers here are those with 4:3 displays who have to sacrifice some detail to play the game.

I mean, seriously, do you think this game is getting 100/100, 9.7, 9.5, 10/10 all over the place without widescreen support? Get real. And do your research.

I was going to chime in on the complaints, but it seems Cry Havoc has regulated. I would have done it with a touch more sympathy (seeing as I have been in Judson's shoes many, many times for highly anticipated games), but whatever.

The widescreen issue....I installed BioShock the day it came out, seeing as I have a 22" widescreen monitor, I naturally set it to a widescreen resoution.

I saw a HUGE improvement in POV using widescreen. It didnt seem "more zoomed" or any other trick of the eye. If anything, the 4:3 ratios made it looked very zoomed.

Meh, either way it looks great...just not on my PC. I posted my new PC a while back in this thread....I have yet to receive said PC.

I installed BS on my current rig and it was brought to its knees like I have never seen before in its history. I told you about widescreen, yeah? Well, fuck that! I thought the opening sequence was going to kill my computer.

So I called the people I ordered a PC from, said it will ship this Friday. So no BioShock for me until then.

Awesome. I have some video issues, so I have to format because I'm having problems running ANY game right now, but the demo worked fine, and was absolutely mind-melting.

When I get all back up and running friday (I am busy all day today), I will be using the following:

From the amount I've played the game, it runs buttery smooth at 1280x800 with everything turned to max except vertical sync. Perhaps with more RAM I can bump the resolution a bit.

I'm thinking about just waiting for the 9900 series (or whatever Nvidia will call it) to come out and building a home box for the Dx10 revolution, but I haven't decided yet. I'm pretty happy with the performance of this laptop so far -- maybe it will even run Crysis! Nothin like killin splicers at a cafe. =P

It really depends, if you're fighting on a desert map your best bet is always Egyptian archers (Pharaohs archers) and the spearmen with chariots to run downhill or whatever. But when its just a plain grass map the archers best quality is keeping the enemy from advancing too much. I like to hit them with archers and when they give chase I move my phalynx up and own them

I was going to downloaded it until I learned that only the PSN name that downloaded it can play it, not any of the sub accounts on the same PS3. So I will buy the disc. The turnover issue with Madden is ridiculous. 6-8 INTs a game with 2-4 fumbles each team, I don't mind a back fumbling if I don't protect the ball but my recievers are coughing it up left and right. EA's board is flooded with pissed off customers. I played the game a ton of different ways and there doesn't seem to be anything that will keep my defense from picking off the CPU excessively. Not even with the INT slider down to 0. I'd like to see more ball swatting than INTs. It should be as tough to pass as it is to run but just as equally tough for someone to get an INT.

You can't see your recievers on the right or the left. The field is squashed and physics are off. The field is also shorter so 1 player takes up the equivalant of 5-6 feet. Dumping a short lob over a LB is nearly impossible because the field size to player size ratio is way off.

Lots of uniforms are off or wrong altogether. Some players are black when they should be white.

Franchise mode is aweful and heres why

1. You can't completely edit your players and if you edit a drafted player his contract that you signed him to changes to 3 years. I'm not talking about editing attributes either.

2. If you edit your drafted player in any way his age will jump to 26 years old.

I think its a great platform for what could have been a spectacular game but its got all kinds of bugs and missing features that were fundamental to a good franchise mode. I do think the franchise mode needs a complete revamping and there really needs to be a way to tone down the turnovers.

Check EA's board not a lot of people are happy with the game. Don't get me wrong I'll still play because there isn't anything else out there but I expected a much more polished game than this.

The turnover issue with Madden is ridiculous. 6-8 INTs a game with 2-4 fumbles each team, I don't mind a back fumbling if I don't protect the ball but my recievers are coughing it up left and right. EA's board is flooded with pissed off customers. I played the game a ton of different ways and there doesn't seem to be anything that will keep my defense from picking off the CPU excessively. Not even with the INT slider down to 0. I'd like to see more ball swatting than INTs. It should be as tough to pass as it is to run but just as equally tough for someone to get an INT.

You can't see your recievers on the right or the left. The field is squashed and physics are off. The field is also shorter so 1 player takes up the equivalant of 5-6 feet. Dumping a short lob over a LB is nearly impossible because the field size to player size ratio is way off.

Lots of uniforms are off or wrong altogether. Some players are black when they should be white.

Franchise mode is aweful and heres why

1. You can't completely edit your players and if you edit a drafted player his contract that you signed him to changes to 3 years. I'm not talking about editing attributes either.

I just got Lair (PS3) and Bioshock (Xbox) today, have not played them yet, But now my list of games I need to get are

Warhawk (PS3)
Overlord (Xbox) loved the demo
Metroid Prime Corruption (Wii)

and Halo 3 this month I paid 25 to reserve it but it cost $130.00 for the legendary edition. I requested that day off and the next so I can get my Halo on.

Metroid delivers as well. The Wii control scheme is as close to mouse and keyboard as a console can get (without actually having a mouse and keyboard, obviously).

FIFA 08 looking pretty damn good. The new "Be a Pro" mode 'seems' a lot like the "Superstar" mode in Madden. I really like the camera angle they have for this mode. Also, I think the speed burst reminds me of the speed burst in Gears of War.

The turnover are ridiculous no matter where you put the game sliders. Missing features and an uplayable franchise mode just kill what could have been an amazing game.

I've been doing a little reading around and the Madden for the old xbox and the ps2 are as good as ever. Formation subs and defensive player assignments with the same franchise mode we've grown to love. For those that have a ps3 I've read in more than a few places that playing the ps2 version on a ps3 will really smooth out the graphics and the game looks better than ever for the CG. This is the answer for getting the NFL fix we need.

I play almost strictly franchise mode and its just unplayable for the NG madden, really sad considering how great the game looks on the 360 and the player engine that controls the tackling and player movement are the best I've ever seen in a football game. I guess looks aren't everything if the game is riddled with bugs and broken functions with all the missing features, hopefully they get it right in 09 or at least test the game better and finish the product because sadly the NG Madden is a shell of its former self.

Naw I rented the 360 version so I could try it out and I haven't made it through a season yet. I made a superstar and just did it over and over till he was a 95 rookie lol but I still got drafted in the 3rd round which is garbage :(

But even if I could it's not worth having it just to sit there and to use as an occasional Bluray player. The library for PS3 is what sucks balls right now and with the new chip to improve the Xbox hopefully. I agree with the fact that Microsoft fd up big time by trying to save money and rush the product, which is why they're releasing the Xbox with the new chips. But, right now it along with the Wii are the best gaming systems out. Now by next year it might be a different story with Heavenly Sword, Drake's Fortune, Metal Gear, etc. coming out. But, right now system vs. system the xbox is the way to go especially with games like Mass Effect, Halo 3 and Bioshock all in the next month

I have an opinion and a few reviews on Madden within the last two pages. Its not worth it for the 360 in my opinion, I would skip it. I've never in my life been so disappointed in a game.

If you're like me and can't live without a football fix just get the old xbox version or the ps2 version because those two games are up to snuff in all the areas the 360 and ps3 versions fall short.

EA has really let me down lately but what do you expect with exclusive license's and zero competition. I hope to god that thay take this player engine and the 08 graphics and put it on a playable platform with a functional franchise mode.

I have had a 360 since 4 months after its launch (every console has problems these days), and it locked up once in all my time.

Me personally? I will always like the PC better than any console. Until a console is capable of 3 things:

1) Mods
2) Console (usually the tilde key "~")
3) Patches

...they will always be inferior, IMO.

My new system kicks fucking ass!!!

Had to download the new nvidia drivers (why the manufacturer loaded old drivers is beyond me) since the graphic cards kept crashing and timing out (which, btw, Vista handled better than I could ahve expected).

After that small task was complete, I was running BioShock with every single bell and whistle the game allows (without touching the .config) at 60+ FPS.

Fucking gaming goodness, I tell you.

Gaming laptops are super-expensive. Building one is out-of-the-question unless you seriously know what youre doing (I dont).

If you are a RTS player, buy something that'll run Dawn of War and lower.

If not, youre fucked. $3k+

Actually, you can find a "decent" gaming laptop for around $1500 ... take a look at the 15" Dell Vostro line (I prefer them cause of the black, you can get an 8600GT M in them) or some of the ASUS line of notebooks.

well shot myself there. few days after posting this my 360 would freeze. I was lucky to play a full game of madden. I had the Best Buy plan tho. I took it this morning got a new 360 with hdmi output and new smaller chip and 50 back cuz the cost is down from when I got it.

NBA Live 08 demo is up. You can be Spurs @ Cavs, or France @ Spain (or the other way around, not sure). I didn't play Live 07 because I heard it was terrible. This one doesn't seem as bad as 06, but it's still too far behind NBA 2k series, it's ridiculous.

The odd thing is, you can not put Spurs as the home team, it will shade them out. Never got live, always been a 2k baller.

Just finished playing the live 08 demo and after watching a clip of Live's programers and producers, etc. talk about this year being better then the previous games. That last year wasn't up to snuff but this year it was going to be good. Well this game looks just like last 2 years of live, the animations in this game are terrible. the way the ball bounces off the rim is terrible and what's with the hoop, its way to big.

Trying to get past the fact the game looks like ass and actually see if the game is any good is a tough task, from what i played it seemed more sim this year. Which is definitely a step forward and having FIBA teams is cool also, but i just don't see this game being in the same league as 2k8.
