I have officially played the Call of Duty beta more in 2 days then I did the Halo 3 beta. I am a big CoD fan since number 2. I played CoD 2 and 3 way more than I ever did Halo 2.

I am changing my ways around for this beta tho, on 2 and 3 I was always a sniper, but the maps are kinda closes off with stuff in the way so I am doing good with the Ak. Will the final game have a War mode like 3?

Took me about 3 hours to reach the level cap of 16, I now get over 20 kill about every match. There is a war mode but it's called something else, I cant remember off the top of my head and you need to unlock it when you Lv up.

As long as I have more kills then deaths Iam happy even it's 1 more kill than death, I have about a 100 more kills than death now.

just played the NBA LIVE 08 demo and they finally might have got it right. it plays pretty well. ive hated live the last several years and play 2k basketball only. however the game played pretty well and the graphics were nice.

no, i liked quake, where people actually moved around, instead of hiding behind crates. i am just not into fps' without quick movement (like strafe jumping in quake), and i don't care for them to be realistic. i really liked the original team fortress for quake too, but it was a different animal entirely. CS doesn't have a steep learning curve at all - one of the reasons it was so wildly popular.

As a side note, I havent been heavily into any FPS game since Soldier of Fortune 2. Used to compete in CAL and UGL for about 2+ years. Our team was pretty damn good, but we never won the title. IIRC, we placed 3rd once.

I played in Desert League for awhile - if you know anything about CS, or have been playing it for anything other than before it became a big sensation, then you'd know what they were. They were before CAL - it was the first truly competitive league. I played CS for over 5 years before I really stopped - I know my FPS history quite extensively and it is not tactical in the sense of R6 and Ghost Recon - you couldn't pick up more guns or buy anything - you went in with your load out and had to work with your team mates on what to have and such. You couldn't camp in the sense that's what most of a CS strike turns into AWP whore fests. Yah, I was in CALi for awhile, BFD - it's boring. All it's good for is giving someone an excuse to be a dick to others by saying WELL WELL ARE YOU IN CALi? I AM SO I MUST BE BETTER THAN YOU.

What I'm getting at is, I am loving the beta so far of Call of Duty 4. However, in Call of Duty 3, (I understand it wasn't developed by Infinity Ward) there was an option in the control settings where instead of holding down the left trigger to sight your gun, you could just tap the left trigger to sight your gun, then tap again to lower it. As of now, holding down the left trigger, while running, aiming, and shooting is impossible for me and currently limits me to the shotgun. I am getting a bit tired of being called a "noob" for having to use the shotgun all the time. People just don't understand. Anyway, I know I'm probably the only person asking for this feature to return, but it would make the game 100% more accessible for me. Thank you for taking your time to read this. *EDIT* Oh, and read page 10 of this thread, its pretty funny.

I could accordingly say that Zelda is not an RPG because it has non-traditional elements, but to deny the number of things it does properly perform as an RPG game with adventure elements or an adventure game with RPG elements is inconsequential. Counterstrike is what it is, and it is far more of a tactical FPS game than an arcade shooter like Quake.

I will offer no debate about GRAW or R6. They are obviously more core-based with a tactical shooter at the heart. But I think dismissing games of a classification because they don't perfectly fit the mold is folly. Few games do these days. Can you really consider Bioshock an FPS? Many hardcore gamers will say no, as referenced above in this thread. But you cannot deny that the FPS element is part of what makes Bioshock so enthralling. What about Oblivion? It's as much adventure and potentially a stealth game as an RPG.

You might want to pick up Counterstrike again, though. It's evolved way past an AWP fest, though that still exists on certain maps. There are very simple ways for a team working together to scrap a whole group of awpers with properly placed smoke, flashes, and any decent assault rifle. The first thing I do when I hear the *boom* of an awp is start buying smoke grenades and go straight at them (well, straight in the strafing sense, of course).

I apologize if you thought I was attempting to assert superiority because you are not in a CAL league. That was not my intent. You could very well be a better CS player than I am. I was merely alluding to the fact that CS CAN be a fantastic team-based game where both groups rely on tactics such as smoke and flashes and deceptive cover to win. I play on a couple of pubs which emphasize teamplay, a rarity for a pub, and obviously such work exists in tournaments in far more abundance than on open slots to the public. I stand firm in my statement that CS is a tactical shooter, albeit with a more arcade tilt, because of the fact that teams have to use tactics to win. This isn't Quake or UT where teams run helter skelter into each others' bases causing as much splash damage as possible. It's a bit more evolved than that.

The rocket launcher is a semi-automatic high-ordinance weapon. We have nothing like it today and if we did it would be impossibly heavy to carry. I am not saying it detracts from the game -- merely that it is unrealistic. To say nothing of the other weapons in the game.

And well, so what about the engine? Bioshock is running on the Unreal Engine 3, would you like to assert that due to that fact they look or even play the same? Be reasonable. Stating that a game has the same engine to bolster their similarities is a statement without validity or precedent, unless they are carbon copies/blatant ripoffs of each other. That's not the case here.

As for the tactics, again, so what? They're both FPS games. Skills are always going to generalize to some degree. Could I say that Quake 3 and GRAW (Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter for the curious) are the same games because you have to aim at another person? Precision control with the mouse is a must for ALL decent FPS games. Nearly all of them employ strafing and prescience of where your opponent will be before you fire, based upon your own judgment as well.

Respawning in and of itself speaks volumes about the differences between the two games. In Counterstrike, you get one life per round. That's it. You make a mistake and remove yourself from the team for the rest of the round. They can't rely on a war of attrition until reinforcements arrive via respawning. There are no weapon respawns in CS -- what you buy, you go with, unless you pick up a felled opponents weapon.

Lastly, the very fact that some guns have to be removed or deactivated during teamplay reveals that Quake is simply not as balanced. Very few, if any, CS tournaments place any similar restrictions on a weapon, unless they are playing a pistol themed variant and so forth. The rocket launcher is a semi-automatic high-ordinance weapon. We have nothing like it today and if we did it would be impossibly heavy to carry. I am not saying it detracts from the game -- merely that it is unrealistic. To say nothing of the other weapons in the game.

And well, so what about the engine? Bioshock is running on the Unreal Engine 3, would you like to assert that due to that fact they look or even play the same? Be reasonable. Stating that a game has the same engine to bolster their similarities is a statement without validity or precedent, unless they are carbon copies/blatant ripoffs of each other. That's not the case here.

As for the tactics, again, so what? They're both FPS games. Skills are always going to generalize to some degree. Could I say that Quake 3 and GRAW (Ghost Recon: Advanced Warfighter for the curious) are the same games because you have to aim at another person? Precision control with the mouse is a must for ALL decent FPS games. Nearly all of them employ strafing and prescience of where your opponent will be before you fire, based upon your own judgment as well.

Respawning in and of itself speaks volumes about the differences between the two games. In Counterstrike, you get one life per round. That's it. You make a mistake and remove yourself from the team for the rest of the round. They can't rely on a war of attrition until reinforcements arrive via respawning. There are no weapon respawns in CS -- what you buy, you go with, unless you pick up a felled opponents weapon.

Lastly, the very fact that some guns have to be removed or deactivated during teamplay reveals that Quake is simply not as balanced. Very few, if any, CS tournaments place any similar restrictions on a weapon, unless they are playing a pistol themed variant and so forth. no, it simply means you have played very little quake and have no idea how it is played, especially in a competitive scenario. the BFG was a single player weapon. you were probably weaned on cs, and you prefer it, which is fine. also, we're talking about mods here - weapons are always added and removed from teamplay mods vs the original game. how many of the half life weapons are in cs? quake was highly evolved as a high level competitive game before valve existed. i happen to think cs is one of the most boring mods there is, mostly because i started playing deathmatch games like doom and quake. and if you think quake 3 blows, you're pretty much right - the first two were way better. for me, it was better than the alternatives.

Hellgate is something I will buy, but I have kept up with it extensively and grow more and more disappointed in its direction.

It would seem most games start as very hardcore experiences and slip into mediocracy once the devs find out that the common gamer hasnt the attention span nor the taste for anything truly different.

Hellgate is shaping up to be just another shooter with RPG elements. Its not a sprawling, living world...its a linear storyline that takes you from place to place in confined quarters and no freedom.

Agreed. Twilight Princess is/was excellent. After I had completed about 75-80% of the game I read that it was originally developed for the GameCube but was revised to Wii format.

In that, the graphics are GameCube's. I am highly anticipating the follow-up.

I downloaded the demo for NBA 2k8 (Cavs @ Spurs, two 4 minute quarters). Compared to 2k7, it has much better (more crisp) graphics, a lot better player models (Duncan looks a lot better, Manu looks life-like finally), the atmosphere is fuckin great (Go Spurs Go chants are in, along with AT&t Center specific sounds/music). The sound is great (crowd yells "Bruuuuuuuuuuuuuce!" when he shoots a jumper). Gameplay wise, collision detection is ridiculous, as you can bump into the refs, coaches on the sidelines, and the collision animations with players are great.

For those that have xbox live, it's a very short download, as it's just 325 MBs or so.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gEF7GmE-jc0 its somewhat hard to tell with the low res but 2k8 is shaping up nicely. This is at about 65% complete so I expect a bit of the hurky jerky to be taken out. Much deeper franchise mode with actual player roles that you can define that will impact the morale of each player and the team as a whole, these roles will also play a part in whether a player wants to sign with you or not, IE promises of a starting job or significant minutes.

The new lock down defensive control gives players like Bruce Bowen the ability to lock onto an opposing player and change the face of the game on the defensive side where you really didn't have anything like that before. A much improved post game and post defense engine look promising too.

Its also hard to tell but the crowd is much more involved this year and you can hear them chant "Go Spurs Go" and "Bruce Bruce" after he hits a three. This game has the potential to be one of the best sports games ever. Hopefully it doesn't flop like Madden did. I'm looking forward to Oct 1.

I think the only thing better in live is probably the stadiums; they're perfect (scoreboards, jumbotrons, shit that doesn't really matter in end). Although, the At&t in 2k8 looks pretty freakin good. You're talking about the hot shots in Live? Cuz 2k8 has kinda the same thing going on, with the little cell phone bars. Like Bruce in the corner is going to have 4-5, and the color depends on how hot he's been in the game (Blue is cold, red is hot).

i got around to downloading the enemy territory: quake wars demo for the pc last night, it's pretty fun! i haven't played a game on the pc in a couple years. have you played it yet enigma?

Though I have to say...as much fun as Call of Duty 4 beta has been, it will be a tough decision come November 4th as to which game to focus online.

I also have been intrigued with Half-Life 2: Orange Box. I've never played Team Fortress but from what I read it seems to play like Return to Castle Wolfenstein(or better put, RtCW plays like Team Fortress).

But I can't imagine Halo 3 not being the top online game for months to come. The map editor, Forge, appears to be very powerful(console-speaking). The saved games feature is so ambitious and all-encompassing it is almost hard to believe it is not just pie in the sky dreams but in fact a working feature. Regardless of how you feel toward the Halo franchise, you can't deny H3 is bringing some features that have never been seen in console games...heck I would venture to say that the Saved Games feature is not even available to pc users, at least not in the way H3 uses it. Every online game you play is automatically saved by Bungie. You can then access it and review any aspect of the game.

that sounds like a horrible logistical nightmare, i don't see how it would possibly work. it would take ridiculous amounts of storage space if every single game played was recorded.

edit: it looks like you can only view the clips within the game engine itself, which is kinda silly. I guess it makes sense for a console, though. you can also only save short clips, not actually edit entire movies.

This has the obvious benefit of keeping the file sizes small; 10 minutes of 720p video would fill a good chunk of the Xbox 360 hard drive, but 10 minutes of input data is compact and easily swapped (via each user's individual public storage space).

it set the standard for console fps shooter games.
by that I mean it is the most customizable console fps in terms of creating gametypes and the simple act of getting into games.

It's no wonder CoD 4 is copying Halo's party system. The proof will be in how customizable CoD 4 will be. I am getting the three games...most likely with Orange box being the odd man if necessary. However with it's single player component which I was halfway through on the original XB and with it having Portal(which looks fun for those who like thinking games) plus eps 1 and 2 it will not be left out...maybe only the time i would have to devote to team fortress 2. I can't see splitting time between H3, CoD4 and TF2 online.

But I would rather have this choice to make than not have anything worth playing......

I played my share of RtCW on pc for about a year. I had some of my most memborable online gaming experiences with that game. It had one of the best communities I have ever known. The team play and cooperation was beyond anything since, save for Ghost Recon on Xbox. The consistent group of players I gamed with knew how to play team games.

That being said...outside of the people playing the game...I will choose to sit on my couch in front of my 60" tv with 5.1 surround sound 100% of the time to sitting upright staring at a 19" monitor getting carpal tunnel...spending the price of a 360 just for the graphics card to get slightly(?) better visuals.

You made a good point though. CS is the perfect blend of realism but not too much -- a lot like the GTA series. You want to talk about how unrealistic CS is? How fun would San Andreas be if every time you hit something in your car, at an unreasonable speed, your character died?

And yet, CS takes a massive amount of skill to play well. There have been times that I've picked people off from across a map without a zoomed weapon, just because I saw a tiny scrap of their head. That kind of control is what is so immensely satisfying about the game, and yet it moves fast enough that I never feel bored. And there is a great rock paper scissors element to it as well. Pistols up close with smoke work great against awps. Awps work well against rifles if the line of sight is clear. Rifles work well against.... everything, if you're good enough, but if you get crazy and forget to aim, you'll get deagled from 300 feet away.

Pick up Wii Play too, it's a good deal because it comes with another wireless controller, which you'll need anyway. The game itself has a "duck hunt" game, air hockey, pool, etc.

I was the Chargers facing the Bears, and the Bears were marching down the field. I stopped them on the 1 yard line and it was 3rd down, so they tried Play Action. I read the play perfectly and picked it off in the endzone.

As soon as a ran out of the endzone with the ball , I get tripped from behind, fumble the ball, and Grossman picks it up and runs for a TD :lol.

That same game, with two minutes left, I picked off the ball and almost ran it all the way for a TD, but was stopped @ the 3 yard line. The first play I run for LT, he fumbled and gives it back. Grossman then proceeds goes apeshit with ungodly accuracy and ties the game sending it into OT, where I won on an LT 54-yard TD run.

Don't buy the core because you'll just end up having to buy a Hard Drive which is expensive and you don't get wireless controllers.. What you want to find is an Xbox 360 with a Falcon processor, those are supposed to run cooler and not have the problems of the older version. Unfortunately, I think right now only the Halo 3 edition is the only ones found with it and its $399.

If you're limit is 349 then I will give you some information below on how to find an Xbox with a Falcon. I'm sure it will be a pain in the ass b/c as I said I'm not sure on how they're rolling out the Falcons, but hell maybe even ask somebody at Gamestop who knows.

Honestly, I haven't talked to anyone that bought the cheaper version so I can't really speak to the differences it makes.

Yep! I'm ok for like the first couple of minutes, but then my eyes start hurting, and my stomach starts feeling queasy. All the moving around looking this way and that way messes with me big time. The only thing I can play are the sports games. It Sucks!! It does save me money big time though.

It's more of an adventure than a straight shooter, turn down the difficulty so you don't have to worry about enemies as much. Maybe then you can have fun with it. A lot of dark hallways and weird noises. Turning down the difficulty won't ruin the game for you. As I've said before, it's more of an experience than a game.

i finally got the wii and i'm renting Metroid:Corruption and i'm hooked. I love this game and the console rocks. I just got my wii online and it's even better. I'm a little late getting into the game, but i'm here.

........i also checked out that $399 PS3 rumor and it looks like it'll be out by Thanksgiving. i think i want it more for a Blue-ray player than a gaming console for now.

You double team someone, they'll pass the ball around to find the open man, who makes the shot 95% of the time. How are the controls? I held off on buying that one when I got my Wii because I'm somewhat skeptical about using the remote for a shooter.i was skeptical too, but i've been playing metroid ever since the NES original came out. the controls take a little getting used to. you have the enemy lock, but you still have to aim. i don't like the way you call up the visors, and it does take a bit getting used to using your thumb to shoot. i would normally put the contoller on my leg and spazz out on the fire button with my index finger when i came to fighting bosses.
