If Brandon were serious there would at least be money for screening and a plan to get it through Congress. As it stands there's no concrete proposal other than assembling a "cancer cabinet."
Framing the solution to controlling cancer as a moonshot reinforces the reductionist, corporate-influenced view of science and technology that has dominated American health policy since World War II. It is a view that neglects prevention, ignores complexity, and fails to acknowledge that powerful sectors of U.S. society benefit from a status quo that produces recurrent health crises such as the Covid-19 pandemic, the climate emergency, and persistently high rates of cancer. The moonshot metaphor also encourages scientists, policymakers, advocates, and businesses who appeal for public and private funds to support the effort to exaggerate its successes and prematurely claim seeing the proverbial light at the end of the tunnel.https://www.statnews.com/2022/02/05/cancer-moonshot-missed-prevention-opportunity/

Driving back from Colorado last week via Raton Pass I saw literally thousands of empty coal cars headed back to Wyoming to reload. If Biden was really serious about greenhouse gasses he would have included a ton of money in BBB for converting existing coal plants to natural gas. Renewable are great but they are never going to be a stand alone solution.

The Biden administration is set to fund the distribution of crack pipes to drug addicts as part of its plan to advance "racial equity."
The $30 million grant program, which closed applications Monday and will begin in May, will provide funds to nonprofits and local governments to help make drug use safer for addicts. Included in the grant, which is overseen by the Department of Health and Human Services, are funds for "smoking kits/supplies." A spokesman for the agency told the Washington Free Beacon that these kits will provide pipes for users to smoke crack cocaine, crystal methamphetamine, and "any illicit substance."
HHS said the kits aim to reduce the risk of infection when smoking substances with glass pipes, which can lead to infections through cuts and sores. Applicants for the grants are prioritized if they treat a majority of "underserved communities," including African Americans and "LGBTQ+ persons," as established under President Joe Biden's executive order on "advancing racial equity."

Project labor agreements on federal construction projects will benefit nearly 200,000 workers
President Biden recently signed (https://www.whitehouse.gov/briefing-room/statements-releases/2022/02/03/fact-sheet-president-biden-signs-executive-order-to-boost-quality-of-federal-construction-projects/) an executive order (EO)
requiring project labor agreements on federal construction projects over $35 million, a move that is expected to affect $262 billion in federal construction contracting and improve job quality for nearly 200,000 workers.
Project labor agreements (PLAs) are used primarily in the construction industry to establish the terms of employment for all workers on a project.
Generally, PLAs specify (https://files.epi.org/page/-/pdf/BP274.pdf) workers’ wages and fringe benefits and may include provisions requiring contractors to hire workers through union hiring halls, otherwise establish a unionized workforce, or develop procedures for resolving employment disputes.
PLAs often include language that
prevents workers from striking during the project
while also preventing employers from locking workers out.

I think the obscene liquidity is intentional (not saying it's good for the average Joe). It's one way to spike up inflation and reduce salaries by currency depreciation. Very unlikely that your average pay raise this year will beat inflation.
The problem is that anybody that has been partying with the stock market has no incentive to go get a job these days.

Yep. I actually like my job and I don't have to worry about market swings, but if that wouldn't be the case, there's basically no incentive for me to have an actual job. Plus my income would get taxed lower as well.
The overarching problem is that we would really not be producing anything, and the notion that the market has become too big to fail is somewhat a recipe for disaster in the longer term (though I might be dead by then).

DHS moves to counter truck convoy in US ahead of Super Bowl Sunday amid trucker protests
DHS and local law enforcement beef up personnel to counter vaccine mandate trucking protests on Super Bowl Sunday
By Caitlin McFall | Fox News
White House press secretary Jen Psaki said Friday the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) had deployed 500 employees and is "surging additional staff" in coordination with California police forces to prevent disruptions at the Super Bowl in response to an international trucking protest.
The press secretary's comments came just moments after President Biden spoke with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau regarding a two-week trucking protest that has disrupted transportation routes and supply chains between the U.S. and Canada.
Freedom Convoy protests in Ottawa, where truck drivers are advocating for an end to the government's coronavirus vaccine mandate for cross-border truckers, are expected to take off in numerous U.S. cities, including Los Angeles.
DHS warned U.S. law enforcement and public safety officials this week that a trucker convoy protesting vaccine mandates could begin Feb. 13, the same day as Super Bowl LVI, and could create significant traffic jams and supply disruptions.
Psaki said DHS forces are working with California Highway Patrol, the Los Angeles Police Department, state and local authorities, as well as "extensive air and maritime security resources" to counter these protests.
"We certainly believe in peaceful protests," Psaki told reporters. But, she added, "Whatever their intended stated purpose, this effort … has the potential to have a huge impact on workers and the American public."
The press secretary said the U.S. has been in close contact with Canadian officials and is working with local authorities to detour traffic so drivers who travel across the Canadian border to deliver goods are not prevented from doing so.
DHS is also preparing for a similar protest expected in Washington, D.C., in March.
"They're taking all necessary steps to ensure that the convoy does not disrupt lawful trade and transportation or interfere with federal government and law enforcement operations," Psaki said.

Democrats split on having Biden's brain tested
by Paul Bedard, Washington Secrets Columnist | | February 17, 2022 11:09 AM
Democrats are joining with Republicans worried about President Joe Biden's mental capacity in calling for a brain test of the chief executive.
The latest Rasmussen Reports survey on the issue said that 43% of Democrats want Biden to take a cognitive test similar to the one former President Donald Trump took and passed in office. Some 47% of Democrats do not feel it's necessary.
While 73% of Democrats believe that Biden is up to the job, 39% have seen a "mental decline" in the president since he took office.
Overall, the numbers in the new survey revealed continued national concern about Biden, the nation's oldest president, especially among independent voters who helped to carry Biden to victory over Trump in 2020.
Altogether, 66% of voters want Biden tested, 56% are not confident he's up for the job, and 63% have seen a mental decline and forgetfulness in Biden.
More GOP lawmakers last week urged Biden to take a cognitive test.

CNN, in association with Johns Hopkins University posted 3,248 Americans dead of the COVID yesterday, 2.17.2022.

Thousands of semitruck drivers are expected to take part in the coast-to-coast "People's Convoy" to protest government COVID-19 mandates starting Wednesday, Feb. 23, says organizer Maureen Steele.
"We have well over 1,000 truckers. I've lost count right now and I know it's going to grow," Steele told Newsmax's "Eric Bolling: The Balance."
"Our support staff is enormous. We have the Unity Project and they have hundreds of nonprofits that are under them so they literally have thousands of people helping pull this event off. So, it's a huge undertaking, as you can imagine, getting all these trucks and all these people across the country and managing safety and logistics and comms. It's an enormous group of people. I know Canada had hundreds. We have thousands," she added.
Steele says the protest will depart on Interstate 40 heading east from Barstow, California.
Truckers are demanding an end to the Emergency Powers Act concerning the pandemic, and to "restore our nation's constitution."
Steele also said she has concerns of being arrested after key organizers of the Canadian trucker "Freedom Convoy" were arrested, "but I'm not organizing this alone."
"Freedom isn't free. Now is our time as Americans that we ensure freedom for our future generations, and we are doing it lawfully. We have the right to gather, we have the right to protest, we won't be violating any laws. If there are any other rogue convoys that are unlawful, that is not ours.

uh? Brandon won PA, a battleground state that Trump won in '16, by 80,000+ votes. That counted. Now do the same for the States that he won in '16 and lost in '20, and you're going to get an order of magnitude larger than 72k.
By all measures, it was indeed a landslide and not close. Didn't even need to win AZ, and still would've won.

Good reminder.
That's why in all the landslide, or at least easy majority states many people don't bother to vote.
Ie Calif, even if one was for Brandon, why bother.
Doesn't the % of qualified voters who actually vote in the U.S. continue to drop?
Therefore the winning president has like less then 30% of the number who qualify to vote?

Correct. This is because oil futures completely tanked when the pandemic came about and most of the investments in shale oil extraction ended up losing money and in debt.
Now that Brandon crushed the pandemic (lmao), and with gas prices going up, re-investing in shale extraction might be economically good again, but debts have to get paid first and restarting that production won't happen overnight.
In the meantime, no oil means a hit to every American's pockets. Short term, I expect the US to gradually lose dependency on that oil, and long term, investment and replacement with renewables is probably the solution both economically and politically.

With the relatively recent development of artificially accelerated boom/bust cycles, producers are hesitant to drill to their capacity again. And as ElNono pointed out, its economically feasible to extract shale oil now but who knows how long that condition will last?

Neither Italy or Germany are going without gas. They have already been getting more LNG from the US and other countries since January than the gas they received from Russia (https://www.nytimes.com/2022/02/03/business/natural-gas-europe-us.html)

As of late 2021, the U.S. was importing 8.5 million barrels per day of crude oil from all countries. Russia supplied 595,000 barrels per day.
As an fyi, US gets 4.5 million barrels per day from Canada, our top supplier. So keep Trudeau happy.

Talking about changing the Subject why can't you answer a simple question Chump why is the U.S still importing millions of barrels of Oil from Russia? Again, if Russia is the enemy why should we be paying them money to import Oil into our country?
We're not at war with Russia (or China for that matter), so not sure where this whole 'enemy' thing comes from. Sure, we don't like how they think and ugly things they do (and I'm sure it's mutual), but neither country is going to shoot themselves in the foot over it (at least for now).
It's not all black and white, tbh...

Biden's fortunes in turn spell trouble for his party in this poll, produced for ABC by Langer Research Associates. Republican congressional candidates have a 49-42% advantage over Democrats among registered voters, widening to 54-41% among those who say they both are registered and certain to vote in November.
When asked about Biden's "mental sharpness" to serve as president, 54 percent said they do not think Biden is mentally sharp enough, while only 40 percent said he is. When respondents were asked the same question in May 2020, when Biden was only a candidate, 51 percent said he had the "mental sharpness" needed to serve as president, while 43 percent said he did not.

problem is that the Dems won the gerrymandering battle this time around, and temporary maps in NC and (likely) Ohio will likely favor them for the next 2 years before being overturned and redrawn next year with more conservative courts to back them up.
I hope the moderate FL state legislature caves in to Ron DeSantis' 20-8 gerrymander. Would only be fair considering what Pritzker and Hochuli did in IL and NY and what the GOP didn't do in Texas.

Bernie Sanders congratulates billionaires for making America an 'oligarchic form of society'
https://ca.finance.yahoo.com/news/bernie-sanders-sarcastically-congratulates-billionaires-221037975.html
Senate Budget Committee chair Bernie Sanders says there's "really, really good news" — for the wealthiest Americans.
"What I want to point out this afternoon is that while the vast majority of people in our country are hurting emotionally, they're hurting economically, these are not difficult times for everybody," Sanders said.
He said that for billionaires and CEOS of large corporations, "these times have not been bad — they in fact have been very, very good."
"Maybe the time is approaching that we should offer a unanimous resolution congratulating the billionaire class for their enormous success in moving this country into the oligarchic form of society that they have long desired," Sanders said.

"When overwhelming numbers of the American people know that it is beyond absurd that some billionaires and large profitable corporations don't pay a nickel in federal income tax, maybe just maybe we might want to change our tax system so that the rich and the powerful start paying their fair share of taxes," Sanders said.
But Democrats have struggled to pass President Joe Biden's ambitious social spending package, which Biden initially proposed should be offset by taxes on high-earning Americans and corporations. But both of those taxes were eventually torpedoed by centrist Democrat Kyrsten Sinema, a senator from Arizona. A tax on billionaires' unrealized gains — such as the value their stocks accrue — was scrapped within a day. Sen. Joe Manchin, a centrist from West Virginia, eventually pumped the brakes completely on the package.

From State run media CNN;;;
"In Georgia in 2008, Putin's soldiers had dirty boots and rusty tanks, but he first tested his now infamous cyber attacks. He got away with it.
By the time Russian troops arrived in Crimea six years later, they had shiny new boots and new uniforms modeled on US special forces. And Putin, fresh after his Olympics triumph in Sochi (WE WERE SO JEALOUS I THOUGHT WE'D BURST/tee, hee), was more confident than ever. He lied at a scale we had never seen before, telling the world that Russian soldiers were not Russian soldiers (https://urldefense.com/v3/__http:/eng.kremlin.ru/transcripts/6763__;!!AQdq3sQhfUj4q8uUguY!wFH8bYGq-PcnByGSVm8uw9WdVmSIhBsqvPThm94wPuIuw2iW3V-mdy6sg47VGoF4pEvuFtc$) , and then he annexed Crimea. He got away with it.
Then came Donbas and Syria, interference in the US elections (https://edition.cnn.com/2021/03/16/politics/us-election-intel-report/index.html) (EVERY 2 YEARS LIKE CLOCKWORK), the Salisbury killings (https://edition.cnn.com/2018/11/30/politics/uk-nerve-agent-attack-putin/index.html) and the Navalny poisoning (https://edition.cnn.com/2020/12/14/europe/russia-navalny-agents-bellingcat-ward/index.html). He'll have put Biden thru a wringer every single day he's in Ukr killing people and blowing up buildings.
He warned Biden by name not to intervene. Biden ain't intervened.
He beat State run media CNN to the "N" word like a boss. They still ain't over it.
He made State run media FOX hit their knees and declare they're State run, in broad daylight.
He has 'em ALL shrinkin' his gourd 24/7 as he sits at the end of that table.
He has those nuclear codes and ain't afraid to use them the way Biden is to use his. Biden can't go first. He can.
The best 1 outta all of 'em, you know not counting he invaded? Guess which one, El/I'll save ya the trouble...bustin' their collective holes with the "N" word right out the gate. He knew! He watches! That glorious SOB!!!

The only thing Brandon handled was comms with allies and unifying Europe, and that he did well.
Trump is a loser, nobody cares about him.
Bidens handling of this has been masterful. He didn't make it about him, worked behind the scenes to pull the real levers of US power: Leadership in nato and good relations with the EU.
He didn't go all cowboy, and stood up for what he thought was right.
He tried as much as possible to de-escalate it, and give Putin all the face-saving outs he could.
He took the gamble that releasing the intel ahead of time was worth the risk/cost to get ahead of russian disinformation efforts, and fuck did that pay off, wow.
From a foreign policy perspective, this will be taught in textbooks as a how to.
Makes me very happy I voted for him. Right guy in the right place at the right time.

In the weeks leading up to the Russian invasion, Joe Biden used his administration to loudly and transparently demonstrate that Putin’s irredentist claims were bunk and that the looming invasion was a premeditated act of aggression.
He simultaneously worked—quietly—with NATO and the EU to achieve a larger consensus than there has been on any military matter before the alliance since . . . well, let’s call it a generation.
Biden did not draw lines in the sand. He did not personalize the conflict. He did not turn himself into the star of the show. He did not allow anyone, anywhere, to believe that this was about America.
Since the invasion, Biden has been a full partner with our European allies. He has not pushed them into decisions. He recognized that having a united front was more important than any particular aspect of the response. And after only four days Europe came to the conclusion—on its own—that it would do everything the American foreign policy establishment had wanted. Biden understood that these countries needed to come to the decision to fight back on their own, and not be publicly cajoled into it.1
Biden also understood that the EU and NATO are actually very powerful allies and that when they work in concert with the United States, we represent a significant geopolitical force.
At home, by not being publicly domineering, Biden has made it much harder for Republicans to polarize public opinion over Ukraine. Because Joe Biden has not allowed Ukraine to become an issue about Joe Biden. This should make the continued prosecution of Russia more tenable in the short and medium term.
Biden has done all of this—a hawk’s dream response—without escalating the conflict or pushing the West closer to kinetic warfare with Russia.
The West is stronger because of the actions of the Biden administration and Russia is weaker because of them.
The last month has represented America’s best showing in foreign policy in a generation, and this with a president playing a weak hand in a crisis forced on the country.
It would be nice if Biden got some credit for this from the public. He’s only making it look easy.

Lester Holt kept pressing him on what he would do to evacuate US citizens who were left behind and Biden asked him "how do we do that without starting WWIII" Even most sensible Republicans should agree with how's he's handling things. God only knows how Trump would be handling this. He would probably send troops to Russia to help with the invasion with knowing how terribly afraid of Putin Trump was/is.

If only we had stayed in Afghanistan, no troops would have ever died.

& Biden expressly warned those same US citizens to get out a fortnight before Putin invaded. Biden would have NEVER ordered them to leave unless he knew precisely what was going to happen and his inability to stop it.
I've no sympathy for them.
