NASASpaceflight is apparently saying that test articles for the upcoming V3 Starship booster, a new version that's supposed to explode less, was on a test stand at this site and is also probably scrap metal now too. So this not only blew up the one for this month, but a *future* one too.

The cause of this latest incident and the extent of possible damage to the test site are unknown, but it follows explosions (https://www.theverge.com/spacex/677355/spacex-rockets-exploding-normal) during the seventh (https://www.theverge.com/news/618529/spacex-faa-nasa-starship-super-heavy-booster-explosion-upgrades), eighth (https://www.theverge.com/news/625826/spacex-starship-rocket-launch-explosion-8th-test-flight-delay), and ninth (https://www.theverge.com/news/675379/spacexs-ninth-starship-flight-test-ends-in-another-explosion) Starship flight tests earlier this year.

Musk promises weekly explosions

SpaceX is also preparing a new V3 design that, according to Musk (https://x.com/elonmusk/status/1903481526794203189), was tracking toward a rate of launching once a week in about 12 months.https://www.theverge.com/news/689901/spacex-starship-explosion-static-fire-test

SpaceX has launched nine Super Heavy-Starship test flights over the last 2 years, with the first three ending with explosions or breakups and the next three being partially successful. The next two resulted in explosions and the most recent flight, in May, reached its trajectory but broke up during atmospheric entry after spinning out of control."

what is Trumplandia doing with your data?

The Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) was sold to the American people as a cost-cutting initiative. Instead, it is clearly something far more sinister: a sprawling data-harvesting operation (https://www.wired.com/story/doge-collecting-immigrant-data-surveil-track/) that threatens the constitutional foundations for American democracy.

Revelations (https://www.nytimes.com/2025/05/30/technology/trump-palantir-data-americans.html) about DOGE's sweeping access to government data shows the administration views personal information as a means of concentrating political power. An early shock came when a National Labor Relations Board whistleblower alleged (https://www.pbs.org/newshour/show/nlrb-whistleblower-claims-musks-doge-potentially-caused-significant-security-breach) DOGE operatives conducted systematic “exfiltration” on huge amounts of sensitive government data. A staffer for the US House Oversight Committee alleged (https://www.wired.com/story/doge-collecting-immigrant-data-surveil-track/) that these data practices violated US privacy and cybersecurity laws and likened them to “tactics used by adversaries waging an attack on US government systems.”

The end-game is reportedly a "master database" (https://oversightdemocrats.house.gov/sites/evo-subsites/democrats-oversight.house.gov/files/evo-media-document/2025-04-17.gec-to-ssa-oig-master-data.pdf) combining information from the Social Security Administration (SSA), Internal Revenue Service (IRS), Department of Homeland Security (DHS), and health agencies, as well as voting records. As a senior DHS official told the tech news publication, Wired, “[t]hey are trying to amass a huge amount of data. It has nothing to do with finding fraud or wasteful spending.”

Meanwhile, key offices that had protected against data misuse have been gutted (https://www.npr.org/2025/03/21/nx-s1-5336738/homeland-security-rif-cuts-dhs), including DHS's Office for Civil Rights and Civil Liberties (CRCL). While this is horrifying enough, it is, evidently, just the beginning (https://www.wired.com/story/doge-is-just-getting-warmed-up-data-immigration/). When combined with data from private brokers that sell information on us and our online habits, the amount of information available for government misuse is staggering

Hey, son. Take a seat. I know that you’re sad about your friends and family who will no longer be able to afford health insurance. Son, this might be hard to hear, but you have to understand: death is just a natural part of the legislative process.

I don’t mean to frighten you, son, and this doesn’t mean you can’t still be sad. Just know this: millions of Americans losing health insurance just happens sometimes.
You can’t predict it, and, thanks to lobbying from the health insurance and pharmaceutical industries, you can’t change it.

Making laws is hard, son. Have you heard the expression, “to make an omelette you’ll have to crack a few eggs”? Well, to make a healthcare bill that’s palatable to the ideologically extreme Republican congress, you’re just going to have to uninsure millions of Americans and doom them to death, financial ruin, or even both.

Death happens to all of us, son, and if a Republican legislative agenda speeds it up by a decade or two, well, that’s just how it goes.

DOGE didn't only scrape your PI, it weakened protection for it

If DOGE can access your data, who else can? Breaches (https://www.gao.gov/cybersecurity) of government IT systems are on the rise. By sidestepping (https://www.foreignaffairs.com/united-states/elon-musk-does-doge-pose-national-security-risk) security protocols, stripping (https://www.politico.com/news/2025/03/31/irs-leadership-turmoil-immigration-crackdown-00254811) privacy protections, and removing (https://www.wired.com/story/inside-cisa-under-trump/) oversight, the current administration is making your information more vulnerable (https://www.npr.org/2025/03/26/nx-s1-5339842/doge-data-access-privacy-act-social-security-treasury-opm-lawsuit) to misuse or attack. This doesn’t just undermine privacy; it opens the door to fraud (https://civilrights.org/2025/03/20/doge-government-data-privacy/), identity theft (https://www.cbpp.org/research/federal-budget/doge-access-to-treasury-payment-systems-raises-serious-risks), government surveillance (https://www.npr.org/2025/03/11/nx-s1-5305054/doge-elon-musk-security-data-information-privacy), and even national security (https://edition.cnn.com/2025/01/10/politics/chinese-hackers-breach-committee-on-foreign-investment-in-the-us/index.html) risks (https://www.rollingstone.com/politics/politics-features/trump-leak-danger-spreadsheet-state-department-usaid-1235306394/). Once your information is compromised, the damage is irreversible (https://www.newamerica.org/oti/testimonies/senate-testimony-data-security-standards/).

Credible (https://www.washingtonpost.com/nation/2025/02/06/elon-musk-doge-ai-department-education/) evidence (https://www.wired.com/story/elon-musk-digital-coup-doge-data-ai/) shows that DOGE is feeding data into unvetted AI systems to automate critical government decisions. This is especially troubling given the current administration’s efforts to remove safety and fairness (https://www.wired.com/story/ai-safety-institute-new-directive-america-first/) as key issues to consider in government use of AI. These efforts make it more likely that AI will be used to make decisions (such as which programs or services to cut (https://www.washingtonpost.com/politics/2024/11/20/ai-benefit-programs-doge-techtonic-justice/)) based on misinterpreted output (https://www.theatlantic.com/technology/archive/2025/03/gsa-chat-doge-ai/681987/) from unvetted and flawed algorithms (https://www.ftc.gov/news-events/news/press-releases/2023/12/rite-aid-banned-using-ai-facial-recognition-after-ftc-says-retailer-deployed-technology-without). This could impact benefits eligibility (https://www.usnews.com/news/best-states/articles/2020-02-14/ai-algorithms-intended-to-detect-welfare-fraud-often-punish-the-poor-instead), immigration status (https://www.reuters.com/technology/artificial-intelligence/us-use-ai-revoke-visas-students-perceived-hamas-supporters-axios-reports-2025-03-06/), and more—with devastating (https://www.texastribune.org/2024/06/27/medicaid-deloitte-errors-texas/) consequences (https://www.btah.org/case-study/michigan-unemployment-insurance-false-fraud-determinations.html) for millions of Americans.

The government has a mandate to protect your information from being improperly or unethically taken, analyzed, shared, or used. While legal protections can and should be modernized (https://www.nytimes.com/2025/02/21/opinion/musk-doge-personal-data.html), DOGE isn’t fixing the current system—it’s exploiting it.

DHS, in partnership with the White House's Department of Governmental Efficiency (DOGE) team, has recently rolled out a series of upgrades to a network of federal databases to allow state and county election officials to quickly check the citizenship status of their entire voter lists — both U.S.-born and naturalized citizens — using data from the Social Security Administration as well as immigration databases.

Such integration has never existed before, and experts call it a sea change that inches the U.S. closer to having a roster of citizens — something the country has never embraced. A centralized national database of Americans' personal information has long been considered a third rail — especially to privacy advocates as well as political conservatives, who have traditionally opposed mass data consolidation by the federal government.

Musk worked the Texas lege pretty good

When lawmakers convened their 2025 legislative session in January, one of Musk’s top priorities was quickly clear. He wanted more control over the area around SpaceX’s launch site (https://www.kut.org/politics/2025-04-11/elon-musk-texas-starbase-spacex-launch-election-boca-chica-beach) in South Texas.

Known as Starbase, the massive rocket testing and launch facility has come to dominate the small rural area between Brownsville, on the border, and the Gulf of Mexico. It is the launch site for Starship (https://www.spacex.com/vehicles/starship/), the rocket meant to eventually take humans to Mars and the heart of Musk’s mission to make humans a multiplanetary species. The FAA recently gave SpaceX permission to increase Starship launches fivefold (https://www.kut.org/energy-environment/2025-05-06/spacex-starbase-starship-launch-texas-faa-environment-approval).

Although SpaceX owns most of the land around Starbase, county officials retained the authority over access to the adjacent public beach, called Boca Chica. The county worked closely with SpaceX to ensure the area was cleared ahead of launches, but the company’s leaders did not have ultimate control over the process.
That changed this year. First, Musk decided to incorporate (https://www.kut.org/politics/2025-04-11/elon-musk-texas-starbase-spacex-launch-election-boca-chica-beach) the launch site as its own city. That happened on May 3, when the few residents who live in the area — most of whom The Texas Newsroom determined work for SpaceX (https://www.kut.org/politics/2025-05-01/elon-musk-spacex-starbase-city-texas-election-vote-voters-employees) — voted to create the new city of Starbase (https://www.kut.org/politics/2025-05-03/elon-musk-texas-spacex-city-starbase-vote-election-results).

Musk then wanted state lawmakers to hand the new city the power to close Boca Chica Beach and the adjoining public highway during the week, a change the county officials opposed.

State Sen. Adam Hinojosa, a newly elected Republican who represents the area, authored the legislation to shift control to Starbase. Dozens of SpaceX employees got involved in the effort, submitting pages of identical comments (https://capitol.texas.gov/tlodocs/89R/publiccomments/billhistory/HB04660H.pdf) to lawmakers in support.

Democrats succeeded in killing Hinojosa’s bill, prompting local activists to celebrate (https://myrgv.com/publications/the-monitor/2025/04/28/spacex-legislation-dies-would-have-removed-countys-authority-on-closures/#google_vignette). Their victory was short-lived. Late in the session, lawmakers decided instead to shift some of this power to the Texas Space Commission, which facilitates the state’s space exploration agenda.

The new law states that the commission’s board can close highways and gulf beaches with the approval of a local municipality, which, in this case, is Starbase. SpaceX retains a connection to the commission itself: Kathy Lueders, who confirmed that she left her job as Starbase general manager last month, still sits on the Space Commission board. She directed additional questions to the commission.

The Space Commission declined to answer questions on SpaceX’s potential future involvement with these discussions.
“The way I view it is SpaceX wanted a certain amount of power,” said Reed, with the Sierra Club. “And at the end of the day, they didn’t quite get it, but they got something pretty close.”

The bill (https://capitol.texas.gov/BillLookup/History.aspx?LegSess=89R&Bill=HB5246) passed along largely partisan lines. Republican state Rep. Greg Bonnen, who authored the bill, did not respond to a request for comment about the role Starbase may play now that it will become law.

Lawmakers passed several more bills to benefit spaceports, the sites where spacecraft launch, like SpaceX.

While Texas is home to multiple spaceports, including Amazon founder Jeff Bezos’ Blue Origin, SpaceX dwarfs the rest in size and scope of influence across the state and country, boasting large federal government contracts and a growing satellite industry.

Hinojosa was an author or sponsor on most of these bills; he did not respond to multiple requests for an interview or comment for this story.
Other than the beach closure legislation, many passed with the support of Democrats.

At SpaceX’s urging, Texas lawmakers passed a measure to ban drones over spaceports (https://capitol.texas.gov/BillLookup/History.aspx?LegSess=89R&Bill=SB1197). They also added spaceports to the state’s “critical infrastructure” facilities (https://capitol.texas.gov/BillLookup/History.aspx?LegSess=89R&Bill=SB1198), which already include airports and military bases. The law will make it a felony to intentionally damage or interrupt the operation of any site where a spacecraft is tested or launched. Similar critical infrastructure laws have been used in other states to arrest people protesting (https://www.icnl.org/wp-content/uploads/CI-Bill-Briefer-final-formatted.pdf) oil and gas pipeline projects.

Bekah Hinojosa with the South Texas Environmental Justice Network, a local activist group, told The Texas Newsroom the new critical infrastructure law will let Musk “militarize our Boca Chica Beach for his dangerous rocket testing endeavors."

The Sierra Club and other groups from South Texas, including a local Indigenous tribe, are suing the state, arguing that closing Boca Chica violates an amendment to the Texas Constitution that protects access to public beaches (https://statutes.capitol.texas.gov/Docs/CN/htm/CN.1/CN.1.33.htm).

The General Land Office, the main defendant in that suit, declined to comment. In court filings, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton argues the state can still regulate beach access for public safety reasons and that it cannot be sued in this case because it has immunity. The case is pending at the Texas Supreme Court.

DOGE' pretense to operating in an advisory capacity only is falling apart in court

To recap, consider what the government’s own administrative record establishes:

On the afternoon of April 3, DOGE contacted the Justice Management Division and “instructed them to terminate” the Acacia Center’s contracts.
Later that evening, a DOGE associate embedded at the Justice Management Division—reportedly as an information technology “advisor”—directed senior Justice Department officials to immediately “terminate” the Acacia Center’s contracts.
When the senior officials were unable or unwilling to do so within an hour, the DOGE associate took matters into his own hands, soliciting a contract officer to send the termination notice.
He apparently did so without the knowledge of the Executive Office of Immigration Review, which administers the contracts.
While the April 3 termination notice was rescinded the following day, a second notice was issued on April 10, again at the urging of the DOGE associate.

The litigation in the Amica case is ongoing, and it remains unclear how the newly-revealed information about DOGE’s role might affect the legal arguments and outcome in the case.

Still, whatever impact it may or may not have within the four corners of the Amica case, the new information reflects an important factual development in the public record concerning DOGE and its activities. The government’s administrative record provides documentary evidence that, at least in some instances, DOGE and its agents are not merely advising but are in fact directing agency action.

perhaps Trump likes the bias, inaccuracy and hate speech

Some House and Senate Democrats, along with dozens of left-leaning advocacy groups, have criticized the Trump administration's efforts to deploy Grok. They claim the chatbot produces inaccuracies, hate speech, and ideological bias, among other concerns, making it unsafe and untrustworthy for federal use.

Elon Musk's Grok AI is now available to federal agencies at a bargain price. The General Services Administration (GSA) announced the deal on Thursday.

As reported in Bloomberg Law (https://news.bloomberglaw.com/artificial-intelligence/musks-grok-ai-cleared-for-use-across-us-government-agencies?utm_source=chatgpt.com), the agreement allows government entities to purchase Grok for just $0.42 per organization through 2027, significantly undercutting competitors like OpenAI's ChatGPT.

This adoption of Grok, part of the GSA's "OneGov Strategy," comes despite concerns about the AI's accuracy and potential biases.

The FBI said on Wednesday it had cut ties with the Anti-Defamation League, a prominent Jewish group that tracks antisemitism, after Republicans criticized the group for including slain activist Charlie Kirk's organization in a glossary on extremism.

In a social media post, FBI Director Kash Patel said the bureau "won't partner with political fronts masquerading as watchdogs."

Elon Musk’s SpaceX has taken money directly from Chinese investors, according to previously sealed testimony, raising new questions about foreign ownership interests in one of the United States’ most important military contractors.

The recent testimony, coming from a SpaceX insider during a court case, marks the first time direct Chinese investment in the privately held company has been disclosed. While there is no prohibition on Chinese ownership in U.S. military contractors, such investment is heavily regulated and the issue is treated by the U.S. government (https://www.whitehouse.gov/presidential-actions/2025/02/america-first-investment-policy/) as a significant national security concern.

“They obviously have Chinese investors to be honest,” Iqbaljit Kahlon, a major SpaceX investor, said in a deposition (https://www.documentcloud.org/documents/26175242-kahlon-6172024-deposition/) last year, adding that some are “directly on the cap table.” “Cap table” refers to the company’s capitalization table, which lists its shareholders.

Kahlon’s testimony does not reveal the scope of Chinese investment in SpaceX or the identities of the investors. Kahlon has long been close with the company’s leadership and runs his own firm that acts as a middleman for wealthy investors looking to buy shares of SpaceX.

SpaceX keeps its full ownership structure secret. It was previously reported (https://www.ft.com/content/66857e1e-a217-4ddd-8332-d9f0f75aa459) that some Chinese investors had bought indirect stakes in SpaceX, investing in middleman funds that in turn owned shares in the rocket company. The new testimony describes direct investments that suggest a closer relationship with SpaceX.

danger to the public

Austin Robotaxis have been involved in eight crashes since they launched in June, Electrek (https://electrek.co/2025/11/17/tesla-robotaxi-had-3-more-crashes-now-7-total/) reports, citing National Highway Traffic Safety Administration data you can download here (https://www.nhtsa.gov/laws-regulations/standing-general-order-crash-reporting#data). Those crashes for the most part involved property damage, and only in one case led to a minor injury. Notably, the crashes occurred with a safety monitor in the front seat.

As Electrek notes, that data suggests Tesla Robotaxis are crashing once every 40,000 miles, whereas the average human driver in the US crashes about once every 500,000 miles. On Tesla’s Full Self-Driving page (https://www.tesla.com/fsd/safety), the company claims vehicles with the technology engaged have 7x fewer major and minor collisions — a claim that experts like Carnegie Mellon’s Phil Koopman have said (https://philkoopman.substack.com/p/new-tesla-fsd-safety-data) doesn’t stand up to scrutiny.

Over the weekend, Tesla began testing (https://sherwood.news/tech/tesla-is-testing-robotaxis-in-austin-without-people-in-the-front-or-back/) two more Robotaxis without those safety monitors, in hopes of achieving CEO Elon Musk’s latest goal of removing them from the Austin fleet by year’s end.

WILMINGTON, Delaware, Dec 19 (Reuters) - Elon Musk's 2018 pay package from Tesla, once worth $56 billion, was restored by the Delaware Supreme Court on Friday, two years after a lower court struck down the compensation deal as "unfathomable."

The ruling overturns a decision that had prompted a furious backlash from Musk and damaged Delaware's business-friendly reputation.

The court said a 2024 ruling that rescinded the pay package had been improper and inequitable to Musk.

The remedy of total rescission "leaves Musk uncompensated for his time and efforts over a period of six years," the 49-page ruling issued on Friday stated.

The 2018 pay package is now worth about $139 billion based on the price of Tesla's stock at the close of trading on Friday.

checking in for the midterms

In the aftermath of his spectacular falling out with President Donald Trump last year, Elon Musk blasted the Republican Party as a corrupt force that was "bankrupting" the United States of America (https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/us-politics/elon-musk-political-party-america-party-trump-b2783446.html).

But now, after months in the political wilderness, the volatile tech baron has indicated that he will once again devote his enormous fortune (https://www.independent.co.uk/news/business/elon-musk-tesla-trump-doge-neuralink-spacex-b2876212.html) to electing GOP politicians, this time ahead of the midterm elections in 2026.

"America is toast if the radical left wins," declared Musk on X Thursday. "They will open the floodgates to illegal immigration and fraud. Won’t be America anymore."

Musk's post quoted, and seemingly confirmed, another post from a conservative influencer who claimed that Musk was "going all-in" on funding Republicans this year.

That echoed reports from December (https://www.axios.com/2025/12/16/elon-musk-donations-midterms-republicans-trump) that Musk had begun cutting "big checks" for congressional Republicans following a reconciliation dinner with Vice President J.D. Vance (https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/us-politics/jd-vance-trump-musk-friendship-b2891531.html%20).

"Grok gave no further details"

the brainrot is showing

"There are isolated cases where users prompted for and received AI images depicting minors in minimal clothing," Grok said in a post on X. "xAI has safeguards, but improvements are ongoing to block such requests entirely."

"As noted, we've identified lapses in safeguards and are urgently fixing them — CSAM is illegal and prohibited," Grok said, referring to Child Sexual Abuse Material.

Grok gave no further details.

When contacted by Reuters for comment by email, xAI replied with the message "Legacy Media Lies".

In a separate reply to a user on X on Thursday, Grok said most cases could be prevented through advanced filters and monitoring although it said "no system is 100% foolproof," adding that xAI was prioritising improvements and reviewing details shared by users.

Ministers in France have reported (https://www.reuters.com/technology/french-ministers-report-groks-sex-related-content-x-platform-prosecutors-2026-01-02/) sexually explicit content generated by Grok to prosecutors, saying in a statement on Friday the "sexual and sexist" content was "manifestly illegal". The ministers said they had also reported the content to French media regulator Arcom for checks on whether it complied with the European Union's Digital Services Act.

India's IT ministry, meanwhile, said in a letter to X's India unit that the platform failed to prevent misuse of Grok to generate and circulate obscene and sexually explicit content of women. It ordered X to submit an action-taken report within three days. In a reply on X to a user, Grok said it complies with laws like India's Digital Personal Data Protection Act and advises users against violations.

The U.S. Federal Communications Commission did not immediately respond to a request for comment, while the Federal Trade Commission declined to comment.

In addition to the sexual imagery of underage girls, the women depicted in Grok-generated nonconsensual porn range from some who appear to be private citizens to a slew of celebrities, from famous actresses to the First Lady of the United States. And somehow, that was only the tip of the iceberg.

When we dug through this content, we noticed another stomach-churning variation of the trend: Grok, at the request of users, altering images to depict real women being sexually abused, humiliated, hurt, and even killed.

Elon Musk (https://www.cnbc.com/elon-musk/)’s X is being investigated by authorities in Europe, India and Malaysia after its Grok chatbot let users create and share AI-generated sexualized images of children and women.
British media watchdog Ofcom also said (https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/c5y5w0k99r1o) it’s requested information from X, which is owned by xAI, concerning the Grok issues. And on Sunday, a member of Brazil’s parliament said on social media that she’s asked the country’s federal public prosecutor and data protection authority to suspend use of Grok until an investigation is completed.

deepfake online brigading isn't gender-neutral, women get the worst of it

Grok, the chatbot run by the social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter) is generating nonconsensual pornographic images of women with their clothes removed and wearing bikinis with swastikas on them.
This follows a recent wave of criticism (https://www.wired.com/story/grok-is-pushing-ai-undressing-mainstream/) directed against X for Grok’s weak moderation policies, which allow users to ask Grok to “strip” clothes from pictures of women, including minors (https://www.reuters.com/legal/litigation/grok-says-safeguard-lapses-led-images-minors-minimal-clothing-x-2026-01-02/).

Users of X can reply to a picture of someone, tag Grok, and write “put a swastika bikini on her” or a similar prompt. Grok will then reply with an image of that person wearing no clothes other than a swastika bikini.

People who Grok has shown wearing swastika bikinis include singer Billie Eilish, congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, former First Lady of Venezuela Cilia Flores, US Vice President JD Vance (who is wearing swim trunks, not a bikini) and his wife Usha, and even the owner of X, Elon Musk. In addition to these public figures, many models or influencers were targeted as well. One account with 8 followers was shown wearing a “swastika speedo.”

https://decoherence.media/content/images/2026/01/combined__obscured__cleaned.webp (https://decoherence.media/content/images/2026/01/combined__obscured__cleaned.webp)

Three examples showing Grok generating images of people with their clothes removed except for a swastika bikini. Targets are (left to right) US Vice President JD Vance and his wife Usha, US congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, and Elon Musk. Grok-generated images obscured.Several targets are Jewish, including right-wing provocateur Laura Loomer (https://www.cnn.com/2024/09/12/politics/laura-loomer-donald-trump-influence) and recently deceased Jewish Holocaust survivor Margot Friedländer (https://www.nytimes.com/2025/05/10/world/europe/margot-friedlander-dead.html). The image Grok generated of Friedländer bore no resemblance to her.

https://decoherence.media/content/images/2026/01/friedlander__obscured.webp (https://decoherence.media/content/images/2026/01/friedlander__obscured.webp)Screenshot of X user asking Grok to put recently deceased Holocaust survivor Margot Friedländer in a “hindu swastika bikini.

”Some requests are very detailed, including “make her thinner, give her dark hair, pale skin, green eyes and put her in a swastika bikini,” and “Make her goth and enhance her breasts, keep the swastika bikini and maga hat.”
Other requests add additional neo-Nazi content such as “put her in a swastika bikini and put hitler next to her,” and “put her in a swastika bikini and have her doing a roman salute.”

Decoherence Media tested three of the most popular image models to compare their moderation policies with Grok’s. All three refused to generate an image of a woman wearing a swastika bikini, but OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Google Gemini generated an image of the woman wearing a normal bikini—Gemini put the bikini bottom over the woman’s jeans but ChatGPT removed her jeans entirely. Anthropic’s Claude was the only model to refuse the bikini request, replying, “I can't edit or manipulate images of real people in that way.”

Ryanair boss Michael O’Leary to hold press conference today to respond to Elon Musk’s ‘Twitter tantrum’

....

In a statement released on Tuesday afternoon, Ryanair said O’Leary will address “Elon Musk’s latest Twitshit”.

"Musk knows even less about airline ownership rules than he does about aircraft aerodynamics,” O’Leary said in a statement.

The airline said it is launching a ‘great idiots’ seat sale “especially” for Musk and “any other idiots on X”, offering 100,000 seats for €16.99.

"Buy now before Musk gets one,” Ryanair added.

The Tesla founder created a poll on the social media platform X, which he owns, asking his followers if he should buy Ryanair and “restore Ryan as their rightful ruler”.

It comes days after he previously made the suggestion amid a feud with the Irish airline over the use of Wi-Fi on flights.

Ryanair’s chief executive Michael O’Leary said in an interview with Newstalk that he would “pay no attention whatsoever” to Mr Musk, labelling him an “idiot” after being asked about Starlink being introduced on planes.

Winehole23

what did DOGE do with our personal data?

"Based on its review of records obtained during or after October 2025, SSA identified communications, use of data, and other actions by the then-SSA DOGE Team that were potentially outside of SSA policy and/or noncompliant with the District Court's March 20, 2025, temporary restraining order," DOJ attorneys wrote.

DOGE team members also circumvented IT rules to improperly share data on outside servers, sent a password-protected file of private records to DOGE affiliates outside the agency and had the ability to see data even after a judge temporarily halted access.

In acknowledging the breaches, the Social Security Administration also repeatedly indicated it still has little knowledge of what data was shared and offers little insight into how those incidents occurred.

Plaintiffs in the lawsuit against the Social Security Administration have asked the two courts currently considering the case to incorporate the "brazen misconduct" documented in the corrected testimony."The unauthorized release of Americans' personal data represents a profound violation of public trust," said Richard Fiesta, executive director of the Alliance for Retired Americans, which is a plaintiff in the case along with unions. "Retirees, workers, and families depend on the Social Security Administration to protect their most confidential information. We have a right to know what happened to our information, who had access to it, and what it was used for."

The revelation bolsters the claims of whistleblower (https://www.npr.org/2025/08/26/nx-s1-5517977/social-security-doge-privacy) Chuck Borges, who alleged that DOGE staffers repeatedly violated internal SSA policies and federal laws, including a decision to copy a dataset of more than 300 million Americans' sensitive information into a virtual database without following required security protocols.

"It's disappointing to be proven right," Borges, who was the chief data officer for SSA until his resignation in August, told NPR in response to the fling. (He has also filed a separate complaint (https://katzbanks.com/news/social-security-administration-whistleblower-files-retaliation-complaint-with-the-office-of-special-counsel/) alleging that he was retaliated against for raising concerns and was forced to resign to uphold his ethical and legal obligations.) "Yes, it's validating, but it's also disappointing because it puts American public data at risk."

Trump/Rubio/Musk will have the blood of millions on their hands

World-historical villains

It’s been one year since the Trump administration dismantled the US Agency for International Development (USAID), with aid cuts leading to the closure of HIV clinics (https://www.cnn.com/2025/11/18/world/video/usaid-for-hiv-care-south-africa-donie-osullivan-digvid-vrtc) in South Africa, the termination of medical programs in Afghanistan (https://www.cnn.com/2025/07/22/asia/usaid-cuts-afghanistan-women-children-intl), and the end of numerous programs tackling malnutrition (https://www.cnn.com/2025/09/21/africa/nigeria-malnutrition-crisis-usaid-intl) and preventable diseases (https://www.cnn.com/2025/06/11/africa/malaria-us-foreign-aid-cuts-africa-intl) around the world.

The slashing of US foreign assistance was followed by cuts by the United Kingdom, Germany, Canada and other developed nations, which are set to take effect this year and next year, compounding the impact (https://www.cnn.com/2025/06/12/europe/foreign-aid-cuts-uk-germany-canada-intl).

Now, a new study (https://www.thelancet.com/journals/langlo/article/PIIS2214-109X(26)00008-2/fulltext) published in The Lancet medical journal aims to quantify the human toll of those budget decisions – projecting that global aid cuts could lead to at least 9.4 million additional deaths by 2030, if the current funding trend continues. About 2.5 million of those deaths are projected to be children under the age of 5.

what better way to expose the world to political extremism, indecency and violence

EU regulators regularly require U.S.-based sites to remove content and can impose bans as a measure of last resort. X, which is owned by Trump ally Elon Musk, was hit with a 120 million-euro fine in December for noncompliance.

Germany, for example, in 2024 issued 482 removal orders for material it deemed supported or incited terrorism and forced providers to take down 16,771 pieces of content.

Similarly, Meta's oversight board in 2024 ordered the removal of a Polish political party's posts that used a racial slur and depicted immigrants as rapists, a content category EU law treats as illegal hate speech.

Calling the U.S. plan "a direct shot" at European rules and laws, former State Department official Kenneth Propp, who worked on European digital regulations and is now at the Atlantic Council’s Europe Center, said freedom.gov "would be perceived in Europe as a U.S. effort to frustrate national law provisions."

Also involved in the U.S. portal effort is Edward Coristine, a former member of Musk's job-slashing Department of Government Efficiency, two sources said. Coristine works with the National Design Studio, created by Trump to beautify government websites. Reuters was unable to reach Coristine for comment.

huge civil award against Tesla in Autopilot lawsuit

A federal judge has rejected Tesla’s bid to overturn a $243 million jury verdict over a fatal 2019 Autopilot crash in Florida, dealing a significant blow to the automaker’s legal strategy as it faces a growing wave of lawsuits tied to its driver-assistance technology.

U.S. District Judge Beth Bloom in Miami ruled that the evidence at trial “more than supported” the verdict and that Tesla raised no new arguments to justify setting it aside. The ruling, made public on Friday, means Tesla’s last hope to avoid paying the massive judgment at the trial court level has been exhausted.

The case stems from a deadly 2019 collision in Key Largo, Florida. George McGee was driving his Tesla Model S with Autopilot engaged when he dropped his phone and bent down to retrieve it. The vehicle blew through a stop sign and a flashing red light at approximately 62 mph, slamming into a parked Chevrolet Tahoe.

The crash killed 22-year-old Naibel Benavides Leon and severely injured her boyfriend, Dillon Angulo, who was 26 at the time.

In August 2025, a Miami federal jury found Tesla liable for the crash (https://electrek.co/2025/08/01/tesla-tsla-is-found-liable-in-fatal-autopilot-crash-has-to-pay-329-million/), assigning 33% of the blame to the automaker. The jury awarded $43 million in compensatory damages and $200 million in punitive damages — the first major plaintiff victory against Tesla in an Autopilot-related wrongful death case.

Tesla had rejected a $60 million settlement offer before the trial. That decision cost the company dearly.

A new analysis (https://fuelarc.com/evs/its-official-the-cybertruck-is-more-explosive-than-the-ford-pinto/) by independent automotive blog FuelArc suggests that fire fatalities are 17 times more likely in a Cybertruck than in the infamous Ford Pinto — the posterchild of deadly cars (https://www.motortrend.com/features/ford-pinto/) if ever there was one.

The site arrives at that conclusion by comparing the total units sold so far — 34,438 for the Cybertruck, compared to 3,173,491 for the ill-fated Pinto, discontinued in 1980 — and comparing reported fire fatalities for both.

At the current rate of horrible fiery deaths, FuelArc projects the Cybertruck will have 14.52 fatalities per 100,000 units — far eclipsing the Pinto’s 0.85. (In absolute terms, FuelArc found, 27 Pinto drivers died in fires, while five Cybertruck drivers have suffered the same fate, at least so far.)

Asked for comment, a FuelArc analyst had some advice for Cybertruck owners: “you should know where your emergency door releases are and how to operate them, and instruct your backseat passengers on the same.”

FuelArc caveats that the numbers are an estimate at best, because Tesla doesn’t release its Cybertruck sales data to the public, lest it hurt its stock price. But that’s not the only thing that hasn’t been released.

The Cybertruck — an almost 3 ton vehicle (https://www.caranddriver.com/news/a46031051/2024-tesla-cybertruck-ford-f-150-lightning-rivian-r1t-specs-compared/) which is apparently allowed (https://www.wired.com/story/regulating-self-driving-cars-no-one/) to drive itself — has never passed independent crash testing (https://www.carscoops.com/2024/02/no-independent-crash-tests-of-the-tesla-cybertruck-are-planned/) by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, and has refused to release its in-house safety testing data, which means other drivers and pedestrians are in the dark as to its safety.

disclusure: my current whip has an internal combustion engine

Yep, you’ve read that right. Initially reported on by Ford Authority (https://fordauthority.com/2026/02/2026-ford-mustang-mach-e-frunk-cost-details-revealed/), Ford has made its frunk a paid option for the 2026 model year, after five years of including one for free. Now, if you want the privilege of storing things in front of the car, you’ll have to pay an extra $495 to use the under-hood space. Ford claims that its planning team noticed that consumers weren’t taking advantage of the frunk all that much, so they figured they could just make it a paid option without too much impact on the end user.

However, it does seem quite strange to effectively lock free cargo space and real estate behind a paywall, especially since Ford’s early marketing for the Mach-E revolved so much around its frunk. The Mach-E, when originally introduced for the 2021 model year, had one of the most useful frunks on the market. At nearly 5 cubic feet and equipped with a drain, the Mach-E was suitable for anything from an extra carry-on piece of luggage to a frunk-full of ice and cold beverages.

An update in 2024 reduced its size by about half, due to a new heat pump. Still, the shape of the updated frunk still meant it was useful for more than you’d think, like, say, a duffel bag. It was certainly better than cars like the Kia EV6 (https://insideevs.com/reviews/780332/2025-kia-ev6-review/) or Hyundai Ioniq 5 (https://insideevs.com/features/782380/podcast-breakthrough-awards-2025/), which feel like they have a Tupperware container glued to a metal plinth placed in the middle of an engine bay. We know that without the frunk, there’s just a void underneath Mach-E’s hood. Why make consumers pay to use that space?

SCOTUS directly enabled privacy violation on a population scale by DOGE

In the first case, a lower court order (https://storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.uscourts.mdd.577321/gov.uscourts.mdd.577321.146.0.pdf) that blocked DOGE’s access to data from the Social Security Administration was stayed during litigation — meaning, DOGE gets access.

As Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson wrote for herself and Justice Sonia Sotomayor:

The Government wants to give DOGE unfettered access to this personal, non-anonymized information right now—before the courts have time to assess whether DOGE’s access is lawful. So it asks this Court to stay a lower court’s decision to place temporary and qualified limits on DOGE’s data access while litigation challenging DOGE’s authority to access the data is pending. … [O]nce again, this Court dons its emergency-responder gear, rushes to the scene, and uses its equitable power to fan the flames rather than extinguish them.

The majority, meanwhile, barely provided any explanation. In a three-paragraph statement — which was issued neither per curiam (for the court) nor in the name of a specific justice — the court stated the basic facts, the standard for a stay, and its conclusion:

After review, we determine that the application of these factors in this case warrants granting the requested stay. We conclude that, under the present circumstances, SSA may proceed to afford members of the SSA DOGE Team access to the agency records in question in order for those members to do their work. That’s it, the entire analysis provided by the anonymous order of the Supreme Court. With that, the Supreme Court’s conservatives allowed DOGE access to any and every person’s Social Security data.

but it's way simpler at this point to impeach the villains and expand the court

adjudicated fraudster, El0n Musk

A jury in California found that Elon Musk (https://www.cnbc.com/elon-musk/) defrauded Twitter shareholders during the runup to his $44 billion acquisition of the social media company, according to a verdict issued on Friday.

Total damages could reach up to $2.6 billion, attorneys for the plaintiffs said.

The class action lawsuit, Pampena v. Musk, (https://cand.uscourts.gov/cases-e-filing/cases/322-cv-05937-crb/giuseppe-pampena-v-elon-rmusk) was originally filed in October 2022, after Musk completed his purchase of Twitter for $54.20 per share. He later renamed the company X, before merging it with his artificial intelligence company xAI, and then with SpaceX, his reusable rocket manufacturer.

if a court determines Musk was illegally appointed, legally speaking a lot of DOGE actions could get rolled up

In her opinion (https://cdn.arstechnica.net/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/State-of-New-Mexico-v-Musk-Opinion-3-23-26.pdf) partly denying a motion to dismiss (https://cdn.arstechnica.net/wp-content/uploads/2026/03/State-of-New-Mexico-v-Musk-Complaint-2-13-25.pdf), US District Judge Tanya S. Chutkan did not buy the US government’s defense that Musk held no office formally established by law—and therefore did not need Senate confirmation and cannot be alleged to have exceeded his authority under the Constitution’s Appointments Clause.

“Nobody thinks, for instance, that the White House Chief of Staff or White House Counsel are officers in any fashion, despite the fact they may exercise tremendous influence across the government,” the government’s motion to dismiss said.

Chutkan called the defense “disquieting.”

“Defendants appear to make the extraordinary argument that an individual who holds an important office and wields immense power is not subject to the Appointments Clause so long as the office was unlawfully created, and the power was unlawfully seized,” Chutkan said.

“Under that interpretation, the President could evade Appointments Clause scrutiny by (1) usurping Congress’s power to create a principal office and assign it powers, and (2) unilaterally appointing an official to that office without Senate confirmation,” the judge continued. “The court will not countenance such a two-fold attack on Congress’s role in our system of checks and balances,” she wrote, noting that “if the President unilaterally creates a principal office, endows it with unlawful powers, and fills it without Senate confirmation, that is more—not less—reason for Appointments Clause scrutiny.”

El0n loses lawsuit against Sam Altman and OpenAI

A jury ruled in favor ofSam Altman (https://www.theguardian.com/technology/sam-altman)in the culmination of a long and bitter legal battle that pitted the richest person in the world against a leader of the AI boom. The federal jury in Oakland, California, found Altman, OpenAI and its president, Greg Brockman, not liable for Elon Musk (https://www.theguardian.com/technology/elon-musk)’s claims that they unjustly enriched themselves and broke a founding contract made with Musk when founding the startup.

The verdict, delivered after less than two hours of deliberation, is a stark rebuke of Musk and his lawyer’s claims that Altman “stole a charity” through his leadership of OpenAI (https://www.theguardian.com/technology/openai). It also provides the AI firm with a clear path ahead to pursue going public later this year at about a $1tn valuation.https://www.theguardian.com/technology/2026/may/18/sam-altman-trial-victory-elon-musk-openai

best government money can buy

Most recently, Reuters reports (https://www.reuters.com/science/us-space-force-awards-spacex-416-billion-deal-2026-05-29/), SpaceX was awarded a $4.16 billion contract with the US Space Force to develop detection satellites that can track and target airborne threats. Just days earlier, the military arm awarded the company a separate contract, worth $2.29 billion, to build a military communications network in low-Earth orbit to support ground-based operations.

Besides the impossible-to-overlook role of Trump and Musk’s cozy relationship, the timing of the announcement will raise plenty of eyebrows. SpaceX is expected to go public soon at a valuation of north of $1.75 trillion, a blockbuster IPO that could directly benefit from a government partner signing a flashy contract.

Musk wants to unmask Grok's deepfake porn victims

Elon Musk’s artificial intelligence firm, xAI (https://www.wired.com/tag/xai/), is requesting the public identification of four people who allegedly had deepfake sexualized images created of them using Grok (https://www.wired.com/story/grok-is-generating-sexual-content-far-more-graphic-than-whats-on-x/)—including one apparently targeted with sexualized deepfake images of them as a child, according to recently filed court documents (https://www.courtlistener.com/docket/72185111/doe-v-xai-corp/).

On May 29, the four main claimants in a federal class-action lawsuit—currently identified as South Carolina Doe, South Carolina Roe, New Jersey Doe, and Ohio Doe—described in affidavits the emotional distress they had suffered after the alleged deepfakes were created earlier this year. The four fear further online harassment and doxing if they are forced to use their real names in the lawsuit against xAI, the documents allege.

“Having stripped them of their clothes, xAI now seeks to strip Plaintiffs of their pseudonyms in an obvious effort to intimidate Plaintiffs into dropping the litigation by compounding the same harms that they seek to remedy,”
