Are they waiting for new talking points?
Lol Trumpies afraid to talk politics
Acting like cutting govt and adding it back is a mistake just shows how uninformed the left is. Musk has always stated that within his companies that if you don't end up adding 10% back then you didn't cut enough.
$180k lease for an office building in BFE rural America was announced on the chopping block yesterday. It has 5 employees.

You need a time frame? They haven't even axed these local agencies yet. Supposed to be August. From what I understand it's the leases he's cut. Some may renegotiate, some may move, some will merge. I thought you'd be ecstatic over rural offices that deal mainly with Trump voters getting cut by having over aggressive capitallist landlords?

You seem to be picking a fight with the wrong guy here. I like what Musk is doing. You may differ in your opinion of what's right and wrong to cut wasteful spending (DEI in foreign countries vs. Farmer welfare/etc) but if you don't there's something seriously wrong with you or you've never paid any federal tax in your life. If you expect me to argue political legality on a topic that's been debated over and over again on trash news channels non stop, then you must just love the copy and paste argument.

you can't fix a fiscal imbalance by degrading the ability of the USG to collect revenue
The IRS is drafting plans to cut its workforce by as much as half through a mix of layoffs, attrition and incentivized buyouts, according to two people familiar with the situation.
The people spoke on condition of anonymity because they weren’t authorized to disclose the plans.
The layoffs are part of the Trump administration’s efforts (https://apnews.com/hub/donald-trump) to shrink the size of the federal workforce (https://apnews.com/article/federal-workforce-employees-trump-cuts-buyouts-86d7a1bc5b3968aa92e0657a7e15bee1) through billionaire Elon Musk’s (https://apnews.com/article/gsa-federal-buildings-doge-fbi-doj-aa123e9c3b12e38c8fa511c2a727f880) Department of Government Efficiency by closing agencies, laying off nearly all probationary employees who have not yet gained civil service protection and offering buyouts to almost all federal employees through a “deferred resignation program” to quickly reduce the government workforce.
A reduction in force of tens of thousands of employees would render the IRS “dysfunctional,” said John Koskinen, a former IRS commissioner.

DOGE is agitprop and an autocoup
DOGE doesn't care about the deficit, it just wants to strengthen DJT's hand against everybody
Unlike with other federal agencies, cutting the IRS means the government collects less money and finds fewer tax abuses. Economic studies (https://www.nber.org/papers/w31376) have shown that for every dollar spent by the IRS, the agency returns between $5 and $12, depending on how much income the taxpayer declared. A 2024 report by the nonpartisan Government Accountability Office found that the IRS found savings of $13,000 for every additional hour spent auditing the tax returns of very wealthy taxpayers — a return on investment that “would leave Wall Street hedge fund managers drooling,” in the words of the Institute on Taxation and Economic Policy (https://itep.org/irs-commissioner-gao-report-highlight-importance-of-proper-irs-funding/).
John Koskinen, who led the IRS from 2013 to 2017, said in an interview that the widespread cuts to the IRS make no sense if Trump and Musk genuinely care about fiscal responsibility and rooting out waste, fraud and abuse.
“What I’ve never understood is if you’re interested in the deficit and curbing it, why would you cut back on the revenue side?” Koskinen said.

cancelling leases willy-nilly
As the Department of Government Efficiency continues cost-cutting, there was confusion Tuesday about a nuclear waste facility in Carlsbad – will the office that oversees it close?
Employees at the Skeen-Whitlock building oversee the storage of nuclear waste that is processed and stored at the Waste Isolation Pilot Plant in Carlsbad. Their job is to make sure it’s done safely and correctly to avoid spills or leaks. It’s a separate campus from the actual storage facility.
Democratic U.S. Rep. Gabe Vasquez sounded the alarm Tuesday morning about the building getting put on the list. He said there are a few New Mexico buildings on the chopping block but cutting one that oversees nuclear waste could be dangerous.
“We’re demanding that the Department of Energy and the General Service Administration give us answers as to a definitive closing date for this particular facility or tell us that they made a mistake. [I’m] Hoping that the latter is true, they made a mistake by putting this facility on the list,” Vasquez said. “The impacts of national security potential pollutants and contamination from radioactive elements that are in these barrels is going to be a recipe for a disaster that we never want to see in this country.”
Rep. Vasquez calls these cuts unpredictable and irresponsible. There are still a lot of unknowns right now.
As of 5 p.m. Tuesday, the DOGE website listed the office. However, KOB 4 received this statement Tuesday afternoon from Richard Lopez, the mayor of Carlsbad:
“Thank you for reaching out regarding the Skeen-Whitlock building lease. Initially, it seemed the lease was at risk. However, I learned today that the miscommunication has been resolved, and the lease remains intact. The Waste Isolation Pilot Plant plays a vital role in our national safety and security, and the Department of Energy is integral to our community’s operations. We are pleased this issue has been resolved in a way that benefits Carlsbad and those who rely on these facilities.”
Even after we received this, we saw the DOGE website still listed the office, its annual leasing price and how much would be saved if the lease was cut.

It's possible Trump has seen enough chaos and fuck ups from El0n. One litmus test will be whether people continue to get fired for resisting DOGE.
President Donald Trump convened his Cabinet in person on Thursday to deliver a message: You’re in charge of your departments, not Elon Musk.
According to two administration officials, Trump told top members of his administration that Musk was empowered to make recommendations to the departments but not to issue unilateral decisions on staffing and policy. Musk was also in the room.

“The threatened termination of Brehm from his position as President of USADF, whether by Marocco, President Trump, Director Gao, or any of the remaining Defendants, is unlawful. None of the Defendants is lawfully a member of the Board of USADF, and only the Board has the authority to remove Brehm from his position,” the plaintiffs said in the lawsuit, adding the “purported termination of Brehm and the purported appointment of Marocco are ultra vires and are clear violations of USADF’s organic statute.”
The USADF in a statement also said it did not believe Marocco or DOGE officials were authorized to represent it.
“The United States African Development Foundation (USADF) offices were entered today by Mr. Peter Marocco and others who we do not believe are authorized to represent the agency. USADF is fully complying with its statutory obligations,” USADF told The Hill in an emailed statement.

SpaceX’s Starship spiraled out of control while in space during a test flight Thursday, marking thesecond launch in a row (https://techcrunch.com/2025/01/16/faa-had-to-divert-flights-because-of-spacex-starship-explosion/) that the vehicle has run into a fatal problem on its way to orbit.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) briefly halted (https://x.com/petemuntean/status/1897803529282302331)flights into major Florida airports and appears to have diverted (https://x.com/flightradar24/status/1897804436132520134) some others out of caution of “space launch debris.” The agency told TechCrunch that it is requiring SpaceX to perform what’s known as a mishap investigation into the failure.
The company launched Starship using its Super Heavy booster and things looked normal for the first eight minutes of the flight. The ship successfully separated and headed into space, while the booster came back to the company’s launchpad in Texas, where it was caught (https://x.com/SpaceX/status/1897794546781532408) for a third time by the launch tower.
But at around eight minutes and nine seconds into the flight, SpaceX’s broadcast graphics showed Starship lose multiple Raptor engines on the vehicle. On-board footage showed the ship started spiraling end over end over the ocean.
“We just saw some engines go out, it looks like we are losing attitude control of the ship,” SpaceX communications manager Dan Huot said on the broadcast. “At this point we have lost contact with the ship.”
Footage (https://x.com/NorcrossUSA/status/1897796234502349117) posted to social media showed the ship breaking up over the Bahamas and the Dominican Republic a few minutes later (https://x.com/JustFlyAndRock/status/1897795683840823799). The company posted (https://x.com/SpaceX/status/1897803612098900131) to X that it “immediately began coordination with safety officials to implement pre-planned contingency responses.”

has DOGE broken the US system of payment and can't fix it?
this pause was only supposed to last for 15 days
When an Ohio University international student woke up last Friday, he was expecting to see a deposit in his bank account, but he found an email in his inbox instead.
Now, he’s scrambling to find money for rent, groceries and other living expenses – things that would normally be covered under the stipend he receives every month from his scholarship agency.
The student is among thousands of people participating in one of the scholarship programs administered through the U.S. State Department who learned last week their funding has been frozen indefinitely.
This includes U.S. and international students in the Fulbright program, one of the most prestigious scholarships in the world.
https://woub.org/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/Fulbright-pause-letter-1024x774.jpg (https://woub.org/wp-content/uploads/2025/03/Fulbright-pause-letter.jpg)Fulbright scholars received notice last Friday that their funding has been suspended indefinitely. [Screenshot from a Reddit post]This has left some U.S. students in foreign countries and international students in the U.S. feeling stranded. “It’s just the time where everybody’s just scared, like we don’t know what’s going to happen next,” said the OU student, John. This is not the student’s real name. He asked to remain anonymous because he receives a scholarship that is restrictive on what he can say. WOUB has verified his identity.
WOUB reached out to other students in affected scholarship programs but was told they had been informed not to talk to the media about the funding situation.
The freeze was first imposed in mid-February and was supposed to last 15 days, which would have ended Feb. 27, but instead students received an email informing them the funding pause would continue until further notice.

Anger at Elon Musk turns violent with molotov cocktails and gunfire at Tesla lots
...
Since President Donald Trump’s inauguration, more than a dozen violent or destructive acts have been directed at Tesla facilities, according to court documents, surveillance photographs, police records and local media reports reviewed by The Washington Post. The incidents come as Elon Musk has rocketed to prominence as Trump’s best-known backer and as a conservative provocateur in his own right. The ire directed at the tech billionaire online has increasingly spilled into real life, with vandalism directed at Tesla storefronts, charging stations and vehicles.
In March, several Tesla superchargers at a shopping center in Littleton, Massachusetts, were set ablaze. Vandals in Maryland also spray-painted “No Musk” onto a Tesla building, alongside a swastika-like symbol. In February, a man brandishing an AR-style semiautomatic weapon fired at a Tesla storefront in Salem, Oregon. Just a few weeks earlier, investigators say, the same man attacked the same dealership by throwing molotov cocktails at Tesla vehicles and through the store window. He caused an estimated $500,000 in damages, according to court documents.

wildly indiscriminate and illegal
wonder what's going to happen to the appropriated funds?
The government is preparing to shed up to a quarter of its 360 million square feet of real estate in the coming months, an NPR analysis of DOGE's "receipts" page (http://doge.gov/savings) of lease terminations and lists of possible cuts circulating at federal agencies found.
At the same time the General Services Administration, which manages federal real estate, is identifying property to divest, the agency has abruptly fired more than 1,000 workers and is targeting an overall 63% reduction in headcount at its Public Building Service division, according to multiple current and former GSA employees. They are among more than a dozen people who spoke to NPR for this story and requested anonymity because they fear speaking publicly would make them targets for reprisal from the Trump administration in their jobs and future employment prospects.
Some current and former GSA employees told NPR they think the firings are illegal and that the proposed cutbacks are indiscriminate.
"There's just been no time," said one GSA manager who was fired earlier this week. They said it appeared that the agency is just " cutting buildings and people without even, like, analyzing anything."

- $9.5 million: Donation to Priorities USA (a Democratic-aligned super PAC that has retained Perkins Coie), linked to Soros’s broader election influence efforts
- $1 million: Contribution from Alex Soros (George Soros’s son) to Priorities USA, also noted in posts found on X, potentially tied to Perkins Coie’s legal services.

"The market and the economy have just become hooked. We’ve become addicted to this government spending, and there’s going to be a detox period,” added Bessent.

academic out the wazoo, but the guy is a professor
‘Digitizing the Fisc’ is the first article to address the current separation of fiscal powers crisis, exemplified by Trump's takeover of the Treasury's payments IT systems, through a tri-dimensional legal, political economic, & technological lens.
It contextualizes the current DOGE-led incursion within a broader history of inter- and intra-branch conflict between Congress, the President, the rest of the executive branch, and the Judiciary over the limits and boundaries of legislative and executive fiscal power.
Concurrently, it situates Trump’s ‘hacking’ of the federal government via the ‘backdoor’ of the fiscal-IT layer within a larger constitutional and technological debate over the future of digital public money and fiscal administrative system design.
I argue that Trump’s vision of a ‘unitary executive fisc’ - in which administrative & budgetary powers are concentrated in the office of the President - while unprecedented and extreme, has deeper roots in the constitutionally fragile architecture of the public payments system.
This fragility is largely due to excessive entanglement, centralized ‘bottlenecks’, and incoherent and/or contradictory directives at the executive level through OMB, Treasury, and Fed, and legislatively via reconciliation and the debt ceiling.https://bsky.app/profile/rohangrey.bsky.social/post/3lk2tj2rplu2b

"Do you see that sucker over there?" Biden asked. "Zero to 60 in 4.1 seconds. It's all electric. I tell you what — and I want to say publicly — I have a commitment from [General Motors CEO Mary Barra] when they make the first electric Corvette, I get to drive it. Right, Mary?"
The president continued, with a laugh: "You think I'm kidding. I'm not kidding. And my entire Secret Service detail went, 'Oh my God. Let's go.' "

Despite video evidence proving otherwise, Trump’s ability to drive has long been a source of interest. In 2017, Trump told Reuters (https://www.reuters.com/article/us-usa-trump-100days-idUSKBN17U0CA/) that he “like[s] to drive” but “can’t drive anymore,” which sparked questions as to whether he had ever been behind the wheel of a car. One such skeptic was Trump’s longtime confidant and political adviser Roger Stone, who (per Business Insider (https://www.businessinsider.com/trump-driving-rolls-royce-listening-taylor-swift-2017-5)) told journalist Jamie Weinstein in a 2017 podcast episode that he had never seen Trump personally drive a car in the nearly four decades that he had known him.https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/politics/does-donald-trump-know-how-to-drive-a-car/ar-AA1AKYmp

The Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) now exists in name only. Not only did Trump’s band of Musk-led pillagers dismantle the infrastructure side of the agency by disbanding the CISA group investigating a massive China-based hack (https://www.techdirt.com/2025/01/23/trump-disbands-cybersecurity-board-investigating-massive-chinese-phone-system-hack/) of US phone systems, but the administration terminated ongoing election security and disinformation-thwarting efforts by the agency roughly a month later (https://www.techdirt.com/2025/02/20/donald-trump-is-turning-cisa-into-the-embodiment-of-his-election-conspiracy-theories/), putting CISA in charge of… practically nothing.
Its only mandate now is to investigate itself for any malfeasance, presumably so Trump can point at anything discovered as evidence of a “stolen” 2020 national election. Now that CISA is pretty much moth-balled, the Kristi Noem-led DHS has decided it’s not going to share the results of its review of CISA election security work with the general public, as Derek Johnson and Colin Wood report for CyberScoop (https://cyberscoop.com/cisa-election-security-review-lacks-transparency/).
When the Trump administration began sidelining and laying off (https://cyberscoop.com/cisa-misinformation-disinformation-administrative-leave/) personnel at the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency, it started by targeting employees who worked on election security and disinformation. At the same time, the Department Homeland Security announced it would conduct a comprehensive review of CISA’s election security mission.
This week, the agency confirmed that it has completed the review, but said that its findings won’t be released to the public.
“The assessment that CISA has undertaken is internal and will help inform how the agency moves forward to best support critical infrastructure,” a CISA spokesperson said. “This is an internal document that is not planned to be released publicly.
Here’s some more of that “maximum transparency” Musk promised last month (https://www.techdirt.com/2025/02/11/musk-promised-government-transparency-doge-delivers-maximum-secrecy/). Of course, the culling of CISA and the burial of this report are their own form of transparency. They indicate Donald Trump doesn’t care about election security or integrity. All he cares about is whether or not he wins. This means CISA won’t be detecting and mitigating threats or providing support to state election officials who don’t have the means or the expertise to do battle with persistent threats or organized disinformation campaigns.
It’s a long con but not a particularly subtle scheme. By removing CISA from the playing field, the next election that’s lost can be blamed on insecure voting tech, providing a basis for more “stolen election” assertions. But it might be more than that. It might be an early effort in service of a loftier goal: greater leeway to engage in the sort of election-rigging Trump and his supporters have falsely claimed for years resulted in the election of Joe Biden.

doesn't play well with others, according to anonymous sauces
“He treats [Wiles] like a secretary in front of people,” the source with knowledge of the matter said. “The second most powerful person in Washington, the first woman and someone who has done a good job of keeping the trains running on time.”
But I’ve heard that it’s even become too much for Wiles, who for the most part has been delivering on what matters most to Trump—producing the Presidency with a daily event featuring co-star Musk and a cast of cabinet members for the press. She’s a professional and a survivor, but she’s being bombarded with calls from cabinet secretaries furious over cuts and members worried about state programs.
“Susie doesn’t like how Musk is a freelancer and has direct access to Trump and she’s complained to Trump about it,” said a source familiar. Cheung denied this.
Administration officials have a myriad of feelings toward Musk: they hate him, they’re afraid of him and they think he’s creepy for doing things like sleeping on a cot in his office in the Eisenhower Executive Office Building, where five guards stand outside of his door.
“The [staff] hates him,” said the source with knowledge of the matter. “Part of it is policy and part is that he’s not human. He treats Susie like a fucking secretary. But they’re petrified of him.”
Wiles’s deputies are extremely loyal to her, and the cabinet secretaries and their deputies are still getting their sea legs while they attempt to wrangle control of the agencies.
“They’re like ‘Fuck this guy, he’s not communicating what he’s going to cut, he’s just cutting,’” said a well-placed source. “Whenever they get a call, everything goes to shit. They’re trying to run their agencies, and then they have this guy who thinks he’s trimming the fat, but it isn’t fat.”
“He treats cabinet secretaries like they’re messenger boys,” the source with knowledge of the matter said.

DOGE org chart shell game
https://www.wimp.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/02/shell-game-magic-trick-explained-GumWeVdcof4.jpg
Five weeks after its creation and under pressure from a growing cascade of lawsuits, the White House revealed in late February that an obscure bureaucrat named Amy Gleason had been acting as DOGE’s administrator since nearly day one.
However, ProPublica has found that she does not appear to be running the budget-slashing group, according to interviews with six current and former government officials. All spoke on condition of anonymity for fear of losing their jobs.
“I get the sense that Amy is in the role of scapegoat,” said one source who had been in meetings with Gleason.
The exact chain of command at DOGE is not clear to most federal employees who brush up against the team. But sources told ProPublica that longtime Musk lieutenant Steve Davis, a former executive of Musk’s Boring Company and SpaceX, appears to be administering day-to-day operations. And at times, Musk himself issues commands from inside the Secretary of War Suite in the Eisenhower Executive Office Building, next to the White House, said a person familiar with the matter.
“I don’t know who Amy Gleason even is,” said one person who’s worked closely with DOGE’s leadership in a federal agency.
“Davis runs the show.”

Kelly pulled up to Senate votes on Friday in front of the US Capitol in a 2025 Chevy Tahoe Z71, a spokesperson confirmed to Business Insider. Unlike his former Tesla, it is an all-gas vehicle. It gets an estimated 15 miles per gallon city, 20 mpg highway, and 17 mpg combined.

possibly related to the fake story about the illegal immigrants kept in a luxury hotel and the real one about El0n Musk stealing $80 million from NYC's bank account, top FEMA counsel returns to FEMA
Stanton’s job has been reinstated, per a copy of an email shared with me that was sent out to FEMA staff on Friday night.
“I'm very excited to share that next week, Josh Stanton will return to his role as DCC for General Law!” wrote Acting Chief Counsel Colt Hagmaier. “We are fortunate to have so many great leaders in OCC that truly function as a team - team that I am grateful to now be a part of again.”
The email did not provide a rationale for Stanton’s reinstatement, and FEMA has still not publicly shared a rationale for him being removed from his role in the first place.

Starlink installed in the White House and various federal agencies
White House officials said that Starlink had “donated” the service and that the gift had been vetted by the lawyer overseeing ethics issues in the White House Counsel’s Office.
Some former officials were unclear about how such a donation could work.
Clare Martorana, a former chief information officer at the White House during the Biden administration, said that typically people cannot simply give technology to the government. She said the White House’s chief information officer would need to sign off on a new system to ensure it was properly secured, as would the chief information officer at the General Services Administration.

It is less clear, however, that the Starlink internet service will significantly expand wireless internet capacity in buildings where fiber cables already provide access.
It was also unclear if Starlink communications were encrypted. At a minimum, the system allows for a network separate from existing White House servers that people on the grounds are able to use, keeping that data separate
“It’s super rare” to install Starlink or another internet provider as a replacement for existing government infrastructure that has been vetted and secured, said Jake Williams, a vice president for research and development at Hunter Strategy, a cybersecurity consultancy. “I can’t think of a time that I have heard of that.”

the mass firings were fraudulent and they knew they were fraudulent
Trump administration lawyers insist that the IRS and other federal agencies have acted within their authority when they ordered waves of mass terminations since Trump took office. But according to previously unreported emails obtained by ProPublica, a top lawyer at the IRS warned administration officials that the performance-related language in his agency’s termination letter was “a false statement” that amounted to “fraud” if the agency kept the language in the letter.
The emails reveal that in the hours before the IRS sent out its Feb. 20 termination letter, a fierce dispute played out at the agency’s highest levels.
Joseph Rillotta, a senior IRS lawyer, wrote that “no one” at the IRS had taken into account the performance of the probationary workers set to be fired. Rillotta urged that the language be struck from the draft termination letter.
If the falsehood wasn’t removed, Rillotta said he would file a report with the inspector general for the IRS.
No one appeared to respond to Rillotta’s first email. In a follow-up email, he said he was “pleading with you to remove the clause,” adding: “It is not an immaterial false statement, because it is designed to improve the government’s posture in litigation (to the detriment of the employees that we are terminating today).”
Because it was not true, he wrote, “That renders it, as I see it, an anticipatory fraud on tribunals of jurisdiction over these employment actions.”

A high-ranking Treasury Department official instructed a senior IRS personnel employee named Traci DiMartini to identify all probationary IRS employees and fire them “based on performance,” according to an affidavit DiMartini later filed in court.
DiMartini had “never heard of mass probationary employee firings,” she stated in her affidavit.
When DiMartini asked the Treasury Department official why they were firing so many probationary employees, she was told that the order came from OPM (https://www.documentcloud.org/documents/25560339-govuscourtsmdd578045437-dimartini-aff/#document/p4/a2627468), which was staffed (https://www.cnn.com/2025/03/03/politics/doge-opm-shrink-government/index.html) by Trump appointees and members of DOGE.
In her affidavit, DiMartini confirmed what Rillotta wrote in his emails — that it was false to say probationary employees were fired for performance. DiMartini’s office “did not review or consider” any probationary employees’ job performance or conduct. Nor did the Treasury Department. “I know this because this fact was discussed openly in meetings,” DiMartini stated in her affidavit.
According to DiMartini’s affidavit, OPM drafted (https://www.documentcloud.org/documents/25560339-govuscourtsmdd578045437-dimartini-aff/?mode=annotating#document/p4/a2627470) the IRS mass-termination letter. While Treasury officials made several changes to it, the IRS’s personnel office where DiMartini worked “was not permitted to make any changes to the letter,” DiMartini’s affidavit said.
(https://www.propublica.org/article/rise-and-fall-terrorgram-inside-global-online-hate-network-frontline-telegram)DiMartini refused to sign the mass-termination letter, according to her affidavit. The then-acting commissioner of the IRS, Douglas O’Donnell, also refused to sign the letter.
When thousands of affected IRS employees finally received the letter, it arrived from a generic email account. No agency official’s name appeared anywhere in the document.

DOGE is cancelling building leases without notice to tenants to inflate its purported "savings"
Plus which, it's despicable to treat people this way
DOGE is terminating leases and other contracts so it can claim premature and inflated savings figures, said Charles Tiefer, a professor emeritus at the University of Baltimore School of Law and federal contracting expert.
It’s also, he said, leaving a wake of wreckage for federal agencies and the people they serve.
“It’s chaos. It’s amateur hour,” Tiefer said.
Local critics say closing the public-facing buildings on DOGE’s list would hurt federal workers, farmers seeking guidance on conservation programs and visitors to one of Nebraska’s natural wonders.
Saving taxpayers money is an admirable goal, but DOGE’s approach is beyond reason, said George Johnson, who leases out the National Park Service visitor center in Valentine to the federal government.
“I think a lot of that inefficiency could have been cured with just a scalpel instead of an ax, and everybody would’ve been happier,” Johnson said. “The way it is now, most people are gonna be pissed off about it.”
