If you believe Woj, Pau has done that twice in the last 24 hours:

I tend not to believe anything from media personalities. Further that report only speculates that Gasol will pass on the offer. He could very well take it if the S&T with Chicago falls through.

And can't Gasol refuse the S&T to Chicago since L.A. has renounced their rights to him?
If so, why is he entertaining this scenario, money?
He has already turned down offers from two other teams offering more than the Spurs.
Is he waiting to see if Chicago gets Melo?

Also if LA is that concerned about Gasol joining a Western contender instead of a shitty bottom feeder in the West like the Lakers, what better way to push them into a S&T than to leak that you'll sign with SA or OKC for the MLE?

Why does anyone in the NBA give a shit about where Melo goes? Dude's a scorer, but also a ball hog who plays no D. F Melo.

Lakers is behaving totally meaningless.

Gasol has 2 more years in the tank at most and they will not contend next 2 years. So why do they thinking to send Gasol to east.

Moreover they get Lin and helped Houston to open cap space. They could bring Bosh after that move. Why did they help Houston bringing Bosh but trying to avoid Gasol?

Because Melo on the Bulls makes them an instant title contender. Without Melo, it is debatable, even with Gasol IMHO.

Because which ever team gets Pau will have a leg up on the recruitment of his brother Marc in 2015 when he is a FA.

You may not like Melo, and that is understandable, I am not fond of him too, but it cannot be disputed that on the Bulls, they would be an instant title contender.

They can easily afford to wait and see if Chicago gets Gasol and then see what else is out there if they don't get him.

Me too. They will have to Amensty Boozer as no one is going to trade for him. They have no one on that team that can slash to the basket other than Rose and that is a big question mark as it is.

They still have Dj and Hinrich not signed. Bulls do need more offense but your basically will be swapping the same off production w more skilled off player but with less defense. Bulls are really desperate right now and clearly aren't thinking straight. Well Spurs will just go for another run with the squad that just won one.

The Lakers, meanwhile, appear resigned to seeing Gasol exit after successful six seasons together. Prior to Friday, the Lakers offered Gasol two deals: two years worth $23 million, and three years worth $29 million, a league source told ESPNLosAngeles.com's Dave McMenamin. Gasol turned down both offers, according to the source.

http://espn.go.com/nba/story/_/id/11205325/chicago-bulls-san-antonio-spurs-emerge-leading-contenders-land-pau-gasol

Doesn't make sense that he'd take the MLE unless the Spurs and his camp have discussed giving him an early player option to coincidence with the retirements of Duncan and Ginobili and a wink wink agreement for a new larger deal at that time. Still, giving up that kind of (assuming those #s above are fully guaranteed) money usually happens only if you know you can get it elsewhere, in writing, today.

The Spurs are in a fantastic position here. We don't NEED Gasol. He would give the Spurs unbelievable depth but he would mean way more for Chicago and bring more value. He just needs to decide if he likes the cold weather and outside shot of getting stomped by Spurs in Finals.

Pop's signing was a subtle signal to the league (and PGasol?) that he (Pop) plans to be around after Duncan and Manu are gone. And with the minutes management Pop orchestrates, those two might be around another two years, vice the one most seem to think they are doing in an attempt to repeat for the first time.

Can't remember the talking head piece who recently mentioned (or quoted a player?) that Bulls coach (Tom T) runs his players into the ground. PGasol signing with Chicago = not winning any more titles before his career is over. With the current champions, he not only joins an international team that is the only perfect fit for his international talents, but he'll play play under 30min/game. All things being =, i.e., no major injuries, it's possible to win 2+ more titles over a 4 year contract.

Assuming he signed for several years, then at 34, he should have looked for reduced minutes to extend his career on a true title contender vice $$ from a team that won't be a title contender during the length of his contract. So PGasol chose $$ over potential titles b/c with the Bulls he not only won't see any NBA Finals, but odds are high he'll never see an Eastern Conference Finals either. :nope

If we win a 6th, I'd love to see someone with the :lobt2: look directly in the cameras and say "Hey, Pau, you could have been here!" :toast

Exactly, no ageing 34-year old player is going to walk away from $29 million unless he can get that or more with another team, and knows it. We Spur fans need to resign ourselves that Gasol is not going to sign a two year MLE and leave a $29 million contract on the table. It's not going to happen.

Last big loss I remember was game 6 last Finals. That was not on Bonner. I do remember Ibaka blocking or altering almost every shoot in games 3 and 4. Then Bonner started and opened up the lane a little bit. Not to mention he hit 2 threes in the clinching game 6 in OKC.

Come on, Padre. You also can't ignore that he hasn't hurt the Spurs the last two seasons because Pop finally used him the right way. You are basing your hate of Bonner on an era where the Spurs as a whole were just awful and where Pop was playing other failures like Jefferson, Bogans, and Mason. (who also played awful in the playoffs).

Yeah, I don't mind him either. Just would :lol if they bring him back because of SpurPadre.

Ariza for the MLE. Wiz already said they go up to 9 mil to resign him. Means that the Bulls are agreeing to the Butler and kings pick trade for Gasol. The bulls are screwing themselves with this one. News flash, the dude is 34 freakin years old and the Lakers have sucked two years in a row w him. Bulls really must be having visions of 08 Pau in their head right now.

You must be a new Spurs fan not to have seen Bonner completely fail to make the most wide open of shots during many of playoff runs, some coming in key moments in games. Enough is enough with this guy. And Diaw is the main reason Ibaka was drawn away from the paint not Bonner.

Nope, been a fan forever.

I am not talking about the pre Diaw days when Bonner was forced to play heavy minutes in the post season. I am talking about the last few seasons. Bonner is where he should be in the rotation now. And it he is valuable.

If he is going to get big money and play heavy minutes and have to be relied on during crunch time in the playoffs than you are right, but you know he is not. He only averaged 6 minutes a game in this years post season.

But again, which playoff game did Matt Bonner cost the Spurs. I am curious to know.

You're full blown retarded if you think Nick Van Exel and Stoudamire were "big name FA" when they signed with the Spurs.

Van Exel was so "coveted" he signed with the Spurs for $1MM. Stoudamire was so coveted he signed for $500,000. Aside from maybe Boris, none of the names on the list you provided were anything near their primes when they signed with the Spurs. Boris signed with the Spurs because of Tony.

The Spurs have had money available and not been able to lure big names. Rasho Nesterovic was the best the Spurs could do with cap space in '03.

Nick Van Exel and Stoudamire were coveted by other teams but chose SA and took less money for a chance to win a ring. The Spurs wanted them and they came here over other places. Thats my point. They just dont come up losers all the time like some people seem to think.

True that Pop is using him the right way now but for the money, you'd think it would be better spent than a guy with his reputation for missing wide open shots when they matter the most.

xmas1997

I think the sole reason Gasol is entertaining this S&T is because he thinks Melo will be signing there. With Gasol and Melo on the Bulls, they would be a title contender for sure, even with just Melo they would be.
So that satifies his desire to play on a contender and get more money.
I also think that if Chicago does NOT get Melo, then the whole dynamic changes and Gasol tells the Bulls to take a flying leap.

Bonner's shooting percentages did drop during the playoffs (as most players do). He DID hit some big playoff shots. In the Game 1 loss to the Grizzlies the only reason 19% 3pt shooter ZBo's shot won the game for the Grizz is because Bonner had hit 2 3's in the last 90 seconds of the game to put the Spurs up by 2. Bonner back at the minimum is a no-brainer if you have the roster spot.

P.S. I have been a Spurs fan since 1973. Started attending games regularly when I got my drivers license in 1975.

I don't think so. He would have made his announcement that he is joining the Bulls. If its down to MLE, I think he will chose the Spurs. Why go to a workhorse coach to make the same money and have even a less chance at a title.

Like shelbourne said, her sources said if a S&T can't be reached w chi, Pau will join the Spurs.

That statement is as clear as the situation can get. Chi can get more, he starts for them. If MLE can be had from the two, he comes off the bench for Spurs. Basically thats what that statement is implying.

Gasol 2013-14: 17 PTS, 9.7 TRB, 3.4 AST, 1.5 BLK, 19.3 PER in 31 MPG.

Here is a list of players that put up that statline last year, for reference:

Over/Under he gets run down and suffers a lingering injury?

Honestly. I get the whole "East is weak" people are saying but that's simply not true. I think the East is getting better. In Chicago's own division they will be playing a retooled and talent heavy Cavalier team.
