In past discussions w/Bulls, ESPN sources say Lakers have been open to taking back Carlos Boozer's contract depending on assets attached
Probably were asking for jimmy Butler.

Lakers can't take on boozers salary in a sign and trade, let alone take on more assets :lol
thw only way that's possible is if they find a third party to take on nash

Wait a second, Pau is a FREE agent right? All this talk about sign and trade and shit, they can't force a sign and trade right? Wouldn't he have to choose to go to Chicago?
The idea is that in a sign and trade, the bulls can offer more money. But f they give assets back, it also makes them a less preferable destination. If they want pau bad, their best option is to amnesty boozer

Got it. Either way though, he would still have to agree to go there though. That, and the Bulls are wasting time by the minute waiting on Melo..

You think I'm kidding, but there is a thread with over 23,000 posts over there on RealCavsFans.

Yes, but why the f#€k would he want to go there? Melo is most likely re-signing with the Knicks. Who knows if thug could stay healthy? Thibs will run him into the ground. Easy choice. Even the money will be better spent in San Antonio.

I'd take him assuming that he accepts his role as a bench guy and as depth, tbh..
I don't think he fits well, but I'm sure Pop can figure it out, and it always helps to have alternatives, especially when Duncan is having one of his poor games..
It will definitely become overrated when everybody starts saying, "omg Pau to the Spurs, it's over for the league!!!", which I'm sure we'll be hearing plenty of:lol..

Something else I'm sure Pau is considering: $5M in Texas is bigger than $5M in Chicago.

Sorry. The only reason I brought it up is that he might want to play with his brother. There's no reason other than that, and it just popped into my head and I typed it. Again, sorry to everyone for even derailing the conversation. If he were going to take the MLE it would probably be to try to win a ring with a team and a fanbase that won't throw him under the bus.

I see your point about Pau fitting in, but if the Spurs want him they must have a role in mind. They also have assuredly communicated that role to Pau.
About the Spanish/Portugese thing, a Spainiard (sp?) once told me that if two people are having a conversation, one person speaking Spanish and the other Portugese, they can understand each other. Picking up one of those two languages once you know the other is probably almost trivial.

I understand the whole "international" and style of play appeal argument for the Spurs, but Gasol has been very vocal about his role and touches in the past..if he chooses the Bulls, he'll be one of only 2 legit offensive options for their team, and his lack of defense will be masked by the supporting cast and Thibs' system..
Also, the only other contender in the East is the Cavs, unlike the West, where the Spurs will still have to battle OKC/Clippers and maybe Houston/GS..

Yeah, even as a non-native Spanish speaker, I can understand a fair bit of Portuguese, especially if written. Spoken is tricky, since I'm weak understanding rapid spoken Spanish, and because Portuguese reminds me of Romanian when I hear it.

I see. For the record, I have questions about Pau as well...primarily the mobility of a Pau/Duncan frontcourt and the idea of Duncan guarding the toughest assignment more regularly. But like others have said, you can't pass up on Pau for the MLE IMO. Just too good of a deal. I'm confident we'll find a way to make it work.

That's when Jamison and other scrubs played ahead him and team didn't win either. I've never had the impression that Pau is a selfish player. If anything, he was as important as KB to their 2 championships (actually had better win shares in one of the 2 championship years), yet he got bashed and was in trade rumor whenever things went bad. He took it all during the last 3-4 years, though with some outburst along the way.

Gasol coming the bench with Splitter would be fucking sick.

I think Pau tweet says it all he said he's close to his decision if he was close to signing with the bulls that would mean pau would know that Melo isn't going to the Bulls or that the lakers found a team to take on Nash contract which is highly unlikely at the time pau tweeted that. Tbh i don't even know how i feel about Pau to the Spurs :lol
I can't see him accepting a 25 MPG bench role while leaving 5-7M on the table, when he could be a key piece elsewhere while still contending. I get the whole winning thing, but that's a pretty damn big sacrifice.
If he does sign with the Spurs, theres 96 minutes between the 4/5. Being conservative Timmy gets 28, Tiago 22, Boris 22, that leaves 24 for Pau. Plus he's not a fit next to Timmy anymore, so he would need to accept a backup 5 role behind Tim.
Having said that, if the Spurs can pull it off :lol fuck me it will be good to watch.

If they can acquire a legit wing defender, then yes..at the moment, they don't scare me, though, their perimeter play is way too poor..
If we could just get a freaking starting small forward I'd feel a lot better about our chances against you guys, tbh....
Agreed. Not sure who they can get at this point tho.

People saying Pau can't play next to Tim are retarded, tbh. If we need defense Tiago will play, if we need offense Gasol will play. Simple.
This isn't football. You have to score and defend all the time. The fact that Duncan/Gasol would be one of the worst defensive duos in recent memory is an issue. We're talking Turd Towers bad, although with Lock n Lock, it would seem as terrible.

Both Gasol and Duncan are horrendous pick&roll defenders and neither is capable of contesting/rotating to the perimeter..add Parker in the mix, and you have a defensive trio that would require both Green/Leonard on the floor just to reach an average level:lol..
It could have worked in the 90s when teams only ran ISO plays, but it's not going to succeed in the era of ball movement, mobility and athleticism..
Gasol/Splitter and Gasol/Diaw(against opposing benches) would be great, though..
Gasol's value would be huge during the regular season, though, as Tim's minute will probably dip to 25 MPG or lower..he would also be useful in the playoffs against starters when Tim is having a bad night, which obviously happens more frequently nowadays..

I really don't think Gasol is such a terrible defender. He's a good individual defender and LA's team defense was so putrid it made Dwight Howard look awful. Pop would have to crack the whip to get either of them to show on a PnR, but they probably would when it matters.

I think y'all are selling Pau short. He wasn't healthy in 2013, and last year he was having to carry the offense. Not to mention his coach has been D'Antoni the past few years. I don't think his D has actually fallen off as much as y'all make it out to be.
Regardless, I agree there are concerns defensively about a Pau/Duncan pairing. But it's not like they'd have to play together all the time, or even a lot. Pop can mix and match them with Diaw/Splitter and it'd work great IMO.

Ayres averaged 13 minutes per game and Duncan averaged 29. Diaw averaged 25 and Splitter got 22. They can trim the fat around those minutes and have Diaw at the 3 more often when matchups permit. I think they can make it work. As you've said yourself, if Gasol actually joined the Spurs, he'd understand his role coming in and it shouldn't be an issue. Yeah, I'm terrible, but I love to play. One of my Strats has a USACG body and a birdseye Warmoth neck. It'll be really nice once I get it done. My other Strat is HH and was going to be wired like a JS-1200 but I didn't like the mud on the neck humbucker.
I met Satch this past September and he signed my JS-1200. I have the meet and greet package for a show in Austin.
I met Eric Johnson after a show in SA (Sam's Burger Joint) and he signed my strat pickguard. I need a sig from Andy Timmons and I will be set.

Atlanta making aggressive, late pitch for Pau Gasol, league sources tell Yahoo. $11M-plus a year, sources say. Gasol likely passes on offer.

I live in Atl and no way Gasol comes here if he is looking for Cultural. One of the most uncultural cities in America, unless you like Indian (Asia) cultural.

Got to trust Pop to be able to arrange the lineups to match the other teams offense. Put combos on that floor that can switch everything.
Bingo. How many starting lineups have the Spurs used? Pau adds to the options.

Gasol would actually help create space for Tim, something that Timmy hasn't had for a long time.

That's up to the 3, 2 and 1. If you're making out your bigs come out to chase shooters then your defense sucks.
Pau provides space for Duncan because he can hit outside shots and depth for the Spurs big men.

Gasol is coming... He just turned down a 2 year 20 million dollar contract with the Lakers and said tht he's close to announcing where he wants to play. Spurs are easily his best option. He has the multi-cultural city, a very professional team culture also, a coach who will extend his career by rationing his minutes. And the best chance at another championship... If he's going to take a mid-level exception, San Antonio is where he's taking it.

Bring in a shooting forward with one center with a decent perimeter, game over. Much rather have Boris with Duncan, not even close. Lanes open up 3s available... No go Pau and Duncan imo unless it's Memphis. And I'd rather have Splitter on Randolph than Duncan or Pau.

I wonder if part of the pitch is to extend the career of both Tim amd Pau by playing both less? If each plays 24 MPG (and thus never play together except against big immobile lineups) then Tim might last until 40 and Pau at least 38.
