Why does that guy look like another guard?

Good news (though a lot probably already knew) is that he's a big.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mv6_mL0qRcQ

Bad news is that he makes Anderson seem fleet of foot. Dude has some skills for a guy his size, but not really anything to get excited about unless he's a low-key beast defender.

Yay, more “pro basketball players” who can’t dribble or shoot. Let’s load up on those

Per source, the Bucks have extended a qualifying offer to Jabari Parker, making him a restricted free agent. As expected. Bucks also extended qualifying offers to two-way players Marshall Plumlee and Xavier Munford to make them restricted as well.

By declining Nowitzki’s option for 2018-19, Dallas can potentially create about $28 million in salary-cap space this summer for the pursuit of Jordan and other free agents.

Nowitzki has spent his entire career in Dallas and will enter next season — his record-setting 21st in a row in the same uniform — just 233 points short of passing Wilt Chamberlain’s 31,419 for No. 5 on the N.B.A.’s career scoring list.

The future of Kawhi Leonard: Eligible for $219 million extension or explore the trade market. When is the point of no return?

Kawhi trade packages: Stay competitive or look to rebuild?

The restricted free agents: Kyle Anderson (http://www.espn.com/nba/player/_/id/2993874/kyle-anderson), Davis Bertans (http://www.espn.com/nba/player/_/id/6426/davis-bertans) and Bryn Forbes (http://www.espn.com/nba/player/_/id/2994526/bryn-forbes)

Exceptions

Non-tax midlevel: $8.6M

Bi-annual: $3.4M

Cap-space breakdown

The Spurs are not operating from a position of strength this summer when it comes to flexibility.

Though the front office has shown to be creative in the past in creating cap space, San Antonio will enter the offseason with $95 million in guaranteed contracts. This does not include the $8 million in salary holds on restricted free agents.

For San Antonio to create room, Pau Gasol (http://www.espn.com/nba/player/_/id/996/pau-gasol) and Danny Green (http://www.espn.com/nba/player/_/id/3988/danny-green) would have to be traded and their free-agent holds would need to be renounced. The Spurs would have close to $32 million in room in this scenario.

A player that has early bird rights must sign a contract for 2 years with no options. The EB rights would have allowed KD to sign for the max but he elected to do the 1+1 thus voiding the max allowed.

The Kevin Durant salary will fall below the $35.65M max salary because of the player option in year 2. The discount would offset the cost if Golden State elects to use the $5.3M tax midlevel.

Remember these deals can still be executed in an order come July 6th that makes the most sense from the cap perspective.

I fully expect Green and Beli to play a lot of SF minutes if they're both on the roster. Manu coming back wouldn't affect that too much. I've been very vocal about how Manu's contract suggested he was going to hang them up, but even if he leaves, I don't think the team can afford to play wings at the guard spots right now.

We won't know exactly how much it is until getting Beli's actual contract details. It could be much closer to $11 Million. I also don't think the Spurs are going to blink on Milutinov's deal. $3 Million is more than generous for a player of his caliber coming in. Bogdanovic killed the perception of value, but everyone else before him took reasonable deals to get into the league.

Don't know anything about what being hard cap means.

There's literally a hard cap, as in you can't go over it no matter what, if you do certain things in that off-season. Using the non-taxpayer MLE is one of them. Getting a sign-and-traded player is another.

Jeff McDonald quoting Paul Garcia on Twitter that they likely used taxpayer MLE. Makes literally zero sense. The hard cap is $20mm above where they currently are and are super unlikely to touch it. Much more likely to use BAE or other part of MLE.

These SAEN reporters are so damn lazy. If half my newspaper just got fired I’d work a little harder.

wouldn't it be hard for them to get to the hard cap?

BAE wouldn't even have a roster spot if they keep Anderson and Bertans, and Porker even oinking at a Manu contract isn't that much

Maybe if Utah signs Bertans to a deal starting at 10 I guess

Nah, Garcia is usually correct and probably is correct here that SA left themselves the option of going over the apron. They will not do that this season, but it doesn't hurt. Though Paul may have meant non-taxpayer MLE if he was talking about the hard cap. You don't have to declare which one you use. If the contract would fit into the tax version, the NBA lets it go.

Yes, it would be hard, but not impossible. Tony, Kyle and Bertans getting big paydays combined with Leonard being traded with the team picking up salary or any other trades where SA gains against the cap would get them closer. Remember in 2015, the Spurs went from under the cap to over the tax in like one day of signings.

Got it, so they left themselves the option. Can decide to use more MLE later or have option to not be hard capped.

Yep. IF Garcia meant it exactly the way you heard/read it, then SA could use the rest and/or the LLE, which would lock them into the hard cap. But if they hold off on using either, then they can go over the apron through various ways and not trigger the hard cap.

It is. It was one thing when they kept paying mediocre guys when they were a playoff team under Karl. I can't rationalize them overpaying guys when they are on a streak of being in the lottery, though. When do you accept that your guys aren't worth it?

Both Harris and Gallo would make a ton of sense IF we can ship out Mills and/or Gasol.
Murray/TP
Bellinelli/Walker
Gallo/Gay
Harris/Bertans
LMA/TBD(Reed?)

Would not beat anyone in the playoffs, but at least, it would be a fun to watch, modern era team, not this old-school, slow team we had in the last couple years

Yep. Fully expect Jokic to be over 300lbs by training camp. They'll probably try to dump Millsap to a team with cap space and trade away their picks for the privilege, so they'll be locked into this line-up. Yuck!

PG: Murray, Mills, White
SG: Green, Manu, Belli, Walker, Paul
SF: Kawhi, Gay
PF: Aldridge
C: Gasol, Metu

That's how our roster looks right now. I guess the Kawhi trade will involve múltiple SF's coming. And one of either Anderson or Bertans is coming back.

Although, in PATFO's notebook, this probably looks more like:

PG: Murray, White
SG: Mills, Belli, Walker
SF: Green, Manu, Paul
PF: Gay
C: Aldridge, Pau, Metu

With Kawhi outside just waiting to be traded.

So maybe they think that with just bringing Tony, Anderson and Bertans back, they are set.

Meh, more of the same hopeless boring season we got this past season, with Belli instead of Forbes. Not really good, tbh.

I hope they either make amends with Kawhi, or they get something promising with his trade.

Also, White and Walker need to be on the rotation. If Manu has to retire, then so be it. I still don't understand the Belli signing.

Obviously, MPV Leonard is the key here. But it would be good to come into the season without Leonard on injury management, without Parker on injury management, without Gay on injury management. Then just go out there and play.
