Two former players signing today shows the organization in a great light :bobo
I think this is a really good point in the context of what is going on and the slander from people due to Kawhi. Danny stayed. Rudy came back and spoke glowingly of SA. Beli came back. Whether we like the moves aside, it shows a lot that players who were here/around chose to stay/comeback.
They all know its a business and trades happen but Kawhi is the only one actually bailing.

l would love to see the Spurs give him a shot. He has been huge defensively and shoots 45% from 3.
Totally fell off my radar. Prolly looking for more security than a SL contract...?

Dwight is likely going to be bought out. Would you go there? For the min? For the remainder of the mid-level? (If I understand it right).

I think this team is better than we think. They will either:
A. Have Leonard back, disgruntled but with something to prove. I can't believe he would sit out two years in a row. So if they don't trade him he will play, and who knows maybe he'll be awesome.
B. Trade Leonard and get some quality pieces in return. They aren't going to give him away.
Either way they won't be the "same team" as last year. They will have Leonard back or whatever they get for him. And without him they were still a playoff team. I think Aldridge will be about the same player. His game will hold up well with age because he doesn't rely on quickness anyway. Murray is one year older. Gay will be healthy to start.
I'm not saying we can beat the Warriors, but no one can. I see some reason to be optimistic.

According to Eurohoops sources, Ryan Broekhoff has interest from the NBA, and especially the Brooklyn Nets (http://www.eurohoops.net/basket/brooklyn-nets/?lang=en&lang=en), but also could stay in Europe and play for Khimki Moscow Region.
If he decides to move to Moscow and play for Khimki he will sign a two-year deal, but the NBA is also an option. Broekhoff will wait a couple of days to make his decision and see if he can actually find a contract in the NBA.

NBA teams paid players $3.3 billion in 2017-18. There is already $3 billion committed to players in 2018-19. The salary cap is going up by $83 million total over 30 teams. That is a cash crunch. Not a good year to be a free agent. OK, let it begin.

What’s interesting about this deal is San Antonio’s backcourt is seemingly overstuffed; Danny Green will be back, and though he’s not quite the shooter he once was, he will still see a lot of minutes on the wing. The Spurs will also have to find time for Patty Mills, rookie Lonnie Walker, and the up-and-coming Dejounte Murray. Oh, and we haven’t discussed Tony Parker and Manu Ginobili yet. It’s possible Ginobili retires and San Antonio lets Parker walk. But even if all are in the fold, you can never have too much shooting at a bargain price.
if manu comes back does that make parker the odd man out?

LeBron is a 10+ years vet, thus eligible for a bigger % of the cap. George could get more after 2 years.

Do Spurs have cap space to sign Randle to an offer sheet? Dude's underrated, & helps Spurs play bully ball, while being versatile enough to play D in today's league.
No cap space at all. Only trades are possible right now and hope that Kyle and Davis sign back.
They needed shooting but from the forwards spots. Walker and White can already shoot, and either Danny needs to be traded or he'll be shooting. Beli seems like a Bertans replacement more than anything, but Manu may well be retiring.
i never saw white shoot off screens or move without the ball the way belli does and i doubt that would be the role for walker.
don't know why ST fans were hoping for such massive cap space this season? for who? what player could the spurs have signed that would have put the team into the finals? i never expected any major additions this summer through free agency.

I don’t speak for everyone but there is a ton of opportunity for teams with cap space to get a lot of draft picks by taking on bad deals (Faried, Deng, etc..). If you are willing to sacrifice a year or so when you will be bad anyways, you can really cash in with cap space.

at this point, i don't want the lakers picks nor do i want even the nuggets future picks because these are not going to be lottery picks. the lakers picks would be in the low to mid 20s at this point. the spurs are better off just getting the space next summer through expiring contracts. of course, the spurs can't screw it up by offering parker anything more than the minimum and certainly not giving him and multi-year deal. i'm also keeping my fingers crossed that the spurs don't do anything stupid in regards to bertans, forbes and KA.

They can stretch him and he will count 6M a year over 3 years or if they want him completely off the books a future first round pick or a player (Kuzma).

In that case, I see a three courses of actions I would explore. One way is to completely tear it down and actually take Deng off of their hands if they add more compensation to the deal. The second way is to trade Gasol to open up cap space and sign Randle to a $15-$18M per year deal for 3 or 4 years and force them to give him up for nothing or tie up more cap space for next summer. Lastly, I would look at simply improving the team by going after a guy like Bradly Beal to pair with Kawhi, using Aldridge as the center piece of an offer with Washington, and offer Kawhi max money and dare him to walk away.
I know it can be nit-picked but, my point isn't about getting Beal necessarily, I just think we have more options than simply dumping him for a low offer and that there some strategic ways to approach this that give us a chance to get better or to cause some difficult decisions for the Lakers. I still think we have cards that we can play if we choose to..

5. Essentially traded Rondo for Randle, with a chance of relegating Lonzo Ball to the bench. BBB = Bench Bum Ballers
In esse, LeBron traded being swept in four games in the Finals for getting beaten in four games during the regular season.

Apparently not as dumb as you are. Number of finals played without any help doesn’t go on the league annals. He’s going to be remembered for not being able to carry a team to a championship, the number of finals matchups he lost, and the empty stats he put up. Karl Malone was good, kept losing to the Bulls, and stayed with one team until he headed to LA but isn’t as celebrated as Jordan, arguably the GOAT. Kobe put up a lot of empty stats but you can’t argue against his five championships, even if those had asterisks. A championship validates a great player’s legacy. You play a sport to win, not to languish on a team just because the same team drafted you. Loyalty is overrated but winning will never be.

Your point was he could be the greatest of all time had he stayed in one team and accomplished zero championships. He won in Miami, won one in Cleveland. The move away from Cleveland bore fruit. Your measure of greatness is sticking to one team and getting nothing. Technically Mills was 4/50, with 2 million of that considered 'unlikely incentives'. So it is possible that Mills will make less.
Mills still has an awful deal though

If Spurs have to go cheap route to fill out roster @ SF spot, some options in no particular order:
Brewer, Corey (http://www.nba.com/players/corey/brewer/201147)
Carter, Vince (http://www.nba.com/players/vince/carter/1713)

This. I like Tyreke. I think he can play the SF position, which is a position the Spurs need help in. He can create his own shot, which again is an area that the Spurs need help in.

This is incorrect...with everyone they have signed or have their options already picked up, if they let everyone else go, they would still be 6M over the cap.
For any cap space they would need to trade players.

He's restricted so they're just going to match his highest offer. Looks like the market may not have been that strong for him in a non D'Antoni system.

There's no team with $ available to give him the max so he's losing leverage and Houston are probably lowballing him hard.

I'm surprised Dallas didn't try and hamstring Houston with a huge contract offer (plus Capela is much younger and more impactful than DJ) but they've been desperate for DeAndre Jordan forever now.:lol
Only other team with interest before lottery selection IIRC was Phx.

For sure - I mean, I know what is literally happening, but I am surprised. If SA did something like that they would be murdered by some fans for “alienating” a good player.
I wonder if this will have an effect on Clint’s desire to stay with the team? Maybe he takes a one-year deal so he can leave next year?

It could also be that most teams aren't even going after capela because they know the rockets will match now causing both sides to agree to a number which looking at rockets payroll they are sure to seek something conservative.

HOU is in a crazy tough spot lol. Let’s say Clint take his qualifying offer so he can leave HOU next year.
If HOU renounces all of their cap holds next year, Clint is gone and they trade BOTH Ryan Anderson and Eric Gordon while taking no money back, they would have Harden, CP3, Tucker and Nene and only 11M in cap space :wow
I would imagine HOU understands the dire situation here and that they will not leverage Clint too much. I mean, they probably know they can’t get anyone as good for 11M basically so they will work something out. But If Clint gets anything more than 11M then HOU, with just CP/Harden/Clint/Tucker would have no cap space even if they got rid of every other player on their roster.

Also, regarding SA’s RFA’s the market is drying up fast. Getting to keep Kyle/Bertans for one more year at sub-TaxMLE/around that amount is a good thing :tu
I dont think they take longer term deals at that price, but SA should be able to keep them for their QO’s or really close.

They're about 17 mil below the tax, if they could squeeze Kyle, Davis, Parker and a back up big there they'd have done a great job. Even on longer contracts but less $ per year they'd create decent trade chips.
I also imagine they'd want to give themselves some breathibg room under the tax because of the pending Kawhi trade, so it'd be tough to keep everyone.

I think if Kyle/Bertans take their QO, SA is in a great spot. That would only be 8M for those two. I can’t imagine SA taking on salary in a Kawhi deal so I think they are more than safe.
If they can get Milutinov at his rookie scale then that would solve the C problem. We shall see. Have not heard anything about him coming over.

They've got themselves in an UGLY tax position with the Paul contract - they are over the tax line, IIRC, with 8 players signed, not including Capela. So every dollar to him costs them double this season, and then they have to think about the repeater tax going forwards...

Anderson visited Sacramento... teams just don’t have enough money. Only a terrible team can pay him something. The belief is Spurs will match too, so it has to be an amount to scare the Spurs off. No, no. It’s on record that if you don’t immediately and without hesitation offer as much money as is allowed no matter what any other team can offer that the players ego kicks in and they want to leave. There is no wiggle room.
