I’m hoping we make a push for Hayward who apparently wants out of Boston
I'm not sure what it would look like and I wouldn't give up much(ddr straight up?) but, he's not a bad fit and he'd compliment the young guys here better than ddr in my opinion. It's not necessarily the ddr trade id pursue but if we did go that route I wouldn't hate it either.

Aldridge and Gay for Hayward and Poirier works financially and makes more sense for Boston.
Not sure that the Spurs would do that deal without getting more than one of Boston 1st rounders (14, 26, and 30).
But Gay and Aldridge are expiring anyways; getting, say, the 26th pick isn't nothing.

I can only speak for the Cowboys (one of the few teams allowing fans) but I've gotten some email offers for some pretty cheap tickets...like $80-$100 for seats that probably went for twice that in a normal season.
I think that despite limited seating and recommended distancing (which fans don't seem to be really following anyways), they are still having trouble putting butts in seats because most people realize that going to a sporting event in a global pandemic is an unnecessary risk even if the team is allowing it.
It also probably doesn't help that the Cowboys are god-awful this season.

Sitting in a closed arena versus an open air stadium seems even worse as for safety. They can’t do 72 games in a bubble but they need to be smart and creative for how they make this work.

Info drop from our favorite Atlanta bullshitter (or could he be for real !?!?)
Part 1
The CBA was holding things back but that has been resolved to a large degree. They are working on small things to try to up the financials. Here are how things are now:
Giannis
MIL have listened to offers for Giannis but has turned everything down thus far and clearly are focused on trying to win a title and will try to convince him to do a 1+1 deal at the least. They have turned their focus to Chris Paul which they stated they were out on but he’s the only star player they can land considering their refusal to trade a 2022 and beyond 1st. Atlanta did make an offer for Giannis which was extremely good and it was declined. FYI. They do want to resign him to the supermax but realize that might be extremely difficult to do.
MIL still thinks they can land Bogdan from SAC. They are really trying their hardest to land a PG who can win now with. It has been a major challenge for them. A lot of teams with the pieces they desire are not willing to make a deal with them with hopes of getting a steal later from them or just targeting Giannis. That said, this was expected but there are still deals out there for them, it is just going to be hard. They are willing to go into the LT. That is the positive. They are in for Holiday, but Bledsoe isn’t in demand. They had a lot of interest in Lonzo Ball but NO sees him as part of their future.
Jrue Holiday
Brooklyn, Philly, Milwaukee, Denver, LAC, Dallas, and Miami have been all over a Jrue Holiday trade. I am hearing Brooklyn is leading but Miami can land him if they are willing to trade Tyler Herro who has been off limit. New Orleans still has not been offered exactly what they want so this deal could falter. Atlanta was in talks for Holiday but decided against a move for a rental. He said the team to watch for is Indiana because they really want Brogdon but as you can imagine, so does Indiana. NO will likely lower their demands and make it more realistic for contenders if they truly want to move him which I am not sure they do.
Oladipo
For the most part, his trade value is much lower than his team value to Indy and it is negatively impacting his trade market. There is one team with a keen interest in him, but Indy wants a lot more value for him then what they are willing to trade at the time. This one could happen on draft night or thanksgiving night if that team can give Indy what they want for Oladipo which is a lot.
Gordon Hayward
Atlanta and Hayward’s agent have been talking preliminary on Gordon. So far, no offer has been made or can be made but there is a presumption that there is major interest on both sides. Gordon would love to resign in Boston if the price is right which I have been told is miles apart. He seems like Atlanta’s prized signing for 2020-21. The cost of this signing will be high. He is hearing he is seeking an Al Horford deal and I honestly don’t think that’s bad value if the team he’s going to wants to use him correctly which is exactly how Boston uses him when he’s healthy.
Paul George
LAC/MIN demand is too great for any team to meet so it is unlikely he will be moved. LAC has other plans. They are big on CP3 and some other targets like DeMar DeRozan in a SnT. The Clippers are all in on resigning their guys. But they want to add more depth. Rondo is their big MLE target. The one player they are leaning to trading is Lou Williams and targeting a big man. They have interest in a Christian Wood SnT as well as Al Horford, but Al might be too rich for them. Their lack of draft capital and lack of bad contracts put them in a tough spot. They just want a PG who can run an offense for the most part. LAC has shown interest in Kyle Lowry, but Toronto been tough on moving him to anyone who has called.
Chris Paul
He will be traded to a team of his choice and MIL is not allowed to kill the other team in the deal. He wants to go to a contender; location does not matter. Milwaukee is also leading to get him but CP3 is picky about how the team is after the trade. CP3 salary makes trades hard for all these teams, especially MIL.
No one knows where Chris is going. It is that simple. His contract is ass. He has control as Presti can’t rob you for him, but the issue is, his contract means Presti will by no choice rob you for him. LAC is really the only team that can afford him and OKC is not taking back garbage contracts in return. Even for LAC, CP3 is NOT their 1st option as he eliminates a lot of options for them for depth, but it is an option. CP3 has made it clear, he wants to play for a contender to Presti. MIL is the team where he wants to go. LAC might be the only team that can afford him. With Brooklyn lurking and a faster season, teams are putting a premium on depth this year.
DeRozan
All signs point to him leaving and going to a contender. LAC has shown interest in him and likewise. LAL is surprisingly not interested. People have mentioned Detroit, but a team people should mention is Orlando who has shown interest to DeRozan in the past and could be looking into an Evan Fournier/Aminu SnT. There is a chance he could opt in but I was told, don’t count on it unless the interest just nullifies.
Eric Gordon
While Gordon is seen with high esteem by the Rockets, he is a player that is available for major change. I do not know who that player could be, but it would be amazing to see what the new regime can do to improve the roster. Shockingly, another name mentioned was P.J. Tucker whose value to their team is tremendous. Four names he heard connected with HOU is Holmes/Barnes/picks from SAC and Thybulle/Horford from PHI.
RoCo is nearly untouchable. Westbrook is seen as a franchise piece and they think Harden is the best player in the NBA aka, idgaf about your offer. There seems to be some real traction with PHI/HOU recently but this could all be a call to pull Harden to PHI but there seems to be interest on both sides.

Part 2
Bradley BealHe is not available. At all. The end. Teams are hoping he, but he isn’t. Washington is really trying to win this year. They are willing to spend and spend big. The priority is to resign Bertans the biggest goal is to space the floor Beal and Wall. A player who has been mentioned as a cheap target is Boogie Cousins. They really believe they have a chance to make the playoffs and be a good team in the East. Depth is their big, continued focus. People within the organization feel this is the best John Wall they have ever had. They believe he is still on an all-NBA level. People close to Beal says he feels the same way and they are extremely hopeful on Rui.
Indy
Indy has been in talks with Atlanta and a 3rd team. This is a massive deal that has been in talks now for months, I even think I mentioned it on here before. Basically, the Atlanta part of the deal is done but the 3rd team is still far away from where they need to be for Indy. The only players I can say are in this deal is Oladipo to the 3rd team and Dedmon to one of the teams. This would be a major deal for all team involved. Indy is NOT rebuilding; they are simply retooling. They want to be a contender in the east like we want to be. They will be tight on offseason spending. Justin Holiday might be on the way out due to salary. Justin is getting a lot of interest from contenders for a mid MLE level player.
Brooklyn
Brooklyn is looking to move their pick and key players for a 3rd or 4th star considering how you see Caris. They have targeted a few players but really want one in Jrue Holiday. It is going to be tough to land him as others are also in the mix. The issue they have is Dinwiddle is expiring and his value to others is far less than his value to Brooklyn. A lot of teams have interest in Allen, but no one sees him as a centerpiece in the type of deal Brooklyn is looking to do.
Like Dallas, they are more open to a deal than people are open to doing a deal with. I do think they are a mid-season team that could make some major noise for a trade. Caris is NOT available for trades currently. All signs point to Caris being available for a bigger deal that is not on the table right now like Bradley Beal.
Dallas
Dallas wants a 3rd star. In fact, have even called OKC for CP3 who has no interest in Dallas. Dallas due to limited resources have really been everywhere trying to make a deal. They are hoping to land Danilo in FA and they would like Dragic who I am being told is a near lock to return to MIA. The player they think they have a shot at is Evan Fournier, but it could cost them THJ for a SnT if he opts out. Dallas wants to use their MLE on a key rotation player, Christian Wood has come up as the main target in FA.
Lakers
Like Dallas, LA wants a 3rd star. They might be in better shape to land one than Dallas. They are planning to resign KCP, AD, Rondo, and are looking at possibly signing TT who can defend all types of bigs as well. He is also getting attention from the Clippers. It seems like both are targeting the same players. The Lakers are another team I think could be a mid-season player for trades. They do not seem likely to sign a major player. A CP3 trade is too hard to do for them. They were high on Oladipo but Indy value is too high for what they can give.
Raptors
Extremely active and there is NO ONE on their roster they aren’t willing to trade at this time including Lowry if the price is right but note, the price is not right for Lowry, they want a key player for him so he’s not truly available atm. They are targeting resigning FVV in FA and have changed their plans this off-season several times. He confirmed that Brogdon’s base is the salary they would like to resign FVV at. They are fully engaged in operation Giannis 2021.
As I have said before, everyone is available from Toronto. Including Lowry but he is still expensive cost wise and trade wise. They would ideally like to keep Lowry but FVV is who they want to resign. A name no one is mentioning for them and someone they like is Danilo Gallinari who is considered by my guy to be a Denver lock if an offer ever came. Toronto has a very established Italian scene. They seemed to lose some interest in Harrell who was a lock. They are still interested in resigning Ibaka. No real feedback when it comes to Gasol.
OKC
Outside of CP3, they have Adams and Schröder on the market if the price is right. As of right now, teams have not met it, but we will see if OKC is willing to take less which they have not showed so far. They are looking like big losers as they are going to get raided this off-season. It is best for them to trade guys this summer or risk killing their trade value when it drops but the trade value is not as high as they would like.
Boston
Boston is in an extremely tough position and have been extremely aggressive trying to get a center via trade or the draft. Have made offers for WCJ from CHI and Bamba from ORL. They are trying to move up to get a bigger asset to land a center or land Okongwu. What they are realizing is the meat of where everyone wants to be is in the 8 of the draft even if it is not 1-3 range. They are trying to move up but no one wants to move that far down.
They realized that Hayward is likely gone and are fine with that but ideally would love to trade him which will not happen. They are all in on targeting a center right now. There are hopes that they can resign Aron Baynes but there is a lot of comp for him. Boston is open to resigning Heyward but for 4/60-65 range. Not what he is seeking. Marc Gasol name has come up, but you will be competing with Europe for him as well which could be costly.
Boston is probably the most screwed team by COVID. The projected 2021 FA numbers were going to be 125 million and if Boston tells him to opt out this year and do a 4/70-4/75, they are living well as the cap could go all of the way up to 135-140 in 2024 but it’s likely going to be around 112-115 for the next three years. Ouch. That puts them in a major bind, and it is not their fault. Just the COVID world we live in. That said, they are being smart and at the end of the day, they have Tatum, Brown, Smart, Walker, and Theis. Walker ultimately must hold up. They cannot afford for him to go Heatles D. Wade or it kills their chances of being a true contender.
Atlanta
This team controls the off-season board along with the Knicks as they are looking at everything. The difference is, Atlanta has players, teams like what could be had. It is fair to say, Atlanta will keep #6. It is fair to say, they could trade down. It is fair to say, they could trade up. They have a lot of options and I do not know where they will go at this time with that pick. Atlanta has gotten offered by damn near everyone and offered some players to damn near everyone.
What is clear is Capela, Trae, De’Andre, and Cam are not going to be traded at all this year. What is also clear is it will take a lot to get them to move Kevin or JC. Because of Atlanta’s cap situation, they are very flexible.
Atlanta wants to resign JT0 and Skal to multi-year low-waged deals but JT0 wants a higher wage which will not happen from Atlanta. He basically wants to play for a winner and depending on what Atlanta does this off-season, he might be on the way out.
I already mention there are players and key people within the org that wants to move up in the draft and some who wants to move back or stay at #6. I do not know which way they will go but expect it to happen on draft night. I did get confirmation that Atlanta will be a player in buying a pick in the 2nd round but do not lock it in.
Their biggest targets this off-season is:
G. Hayward
KCP who is expected to resign with LAL
Derrick Jones Jr. who is expected to have competition considering his wage demands.
Of course, resigning Skal and Jeff.
There obviously can be more but these were the ones I’ve heard we are serious about.
The Indy deal I mentioned earlier has a PG in it coming to Atlanta as well and that might remove the need for Jeff, but that deal is FAR from finalized due to the 3rd team.
Everything I am hearing is they want to improve the depth from 7-13 without question. Bruno has been impressing people in TC and maybe he could fight for the backup 5 spot with Dedmon.
Travis is not in win-now mode, but he is looking into how to make his team a consistent championship contender is his goal. LP and Tony are in win now mode. LP does realize his job is on the line and that we have high expectations for 2020-21. This will not impact how Travis GM’s. He is not going to make hasty decisions is what he was told but he will make decisions that everyone will not always agree with. He knows the team as well as anyone. Also, my guy did not get an idea that Atlanta is in the 2021 camp for a key FA. That makes me think they can cash in this year if the right deals are available.
Houston
Houston goal is simple. They want to land a center for cheap without it costing RoCo who he has gotten word is critical to them. They are targeting Myles Turner but was told HOU does not have enough to land him. They like Vucevic from ORL but he was told Tucker/Gordon would not be enough.
They are really trying to bring a center who can stretch the floor. Baynes is a guy they like but so does Boston and some others. Boogie Cousins has been mentioned as a guy that Houston is interested in but so is LA who could lose both Dwight and McGee. KCP has been mentioned as an MLE target. Houston wants to win a title, and honestly, they could have a better shot than people give them credit for considering they are willing to spend. They want to resign Jeff Green, and a couple of others.
While HOU is not interested in trading James, he has heard from others that Houston will consider trading Harden if they get two young under long contract stars. Meaning, if they land Embiid and Simmons, they will consider trading Harden although they are not interested in trading Harden period. Another trade like that would be Booker and Ayton for Harden. Houston already turned something like this down to a degree already many months ago but in a 3-way deal. Based on what he has gotten directly from HOU, HOU is James Harden, we are not trading him unless he wants out.
Contrary to popular belief, HOU is willing to pay the LT for 2020-21. A few teams are whose franchise player could be in limbo. These players are worth more than half of the franchise value to the team. They need them.

I don't know that there's any inside info in there, but a lot of it is probably pretty accurate on the surface.
Two of the desirable FA's this season (VanVleet and Christian Wood) were both undrafted. Nobody has mentioned Wood, but I think he'll be a good value. Depending on what direction the Spurs are trying to go, he might be a good S&T or MLE target. He would make this team better and I think he's going to be a pretty good value.

Fournier/Aminu is both the type of DeRozan package I've expected all along (no chance they add the 15th pick) and the type I could see interesting the Spurs, if/when he forces their hand.
Keeps with their intent to remain pseudo competitive while re-building. Fournier is obviously not a first option, but he's better equipped at the moment to masquerade as one than anyone else (presuming Aldridge were also traded). He fits with the youth and buys them time until one of them or someone yet to be drafted is capable of filling the role.

Are you up with all the current CBA rules? I'm just worn out with it, but I'm wondering if a S&T for Wood is possible, or if there is some procedural thing standing in the way?

LOL. THIS is a bad team, so he should be fine. :lol
Yeah, obviously price point is an issue. If someone else is willing to overpay by a lot, he's not someone you chase like he's the golden ticket. But he would be a good addition to this squad - depending on what other moves/draft they have planned. Right now I'm looking at players that would make this team better without breaking the bank, and I think he could be one of those.

Christian Wood is really interesting, and I noticed his overall stats from last season were almost identical to Brandon Clarke's:
https://stathead.com/basketball/pcm_finder.cgi?request=1&sum=0&player_id1_hint=Christian+Wood&player_id1_select=Christian+Wood&player_id1=woodch01&idx=bbr__players&p1yrfrom=2020&player_id2_hint=Brandon+Clarke&player_id2_select=Brandon+Clarke&player_id2=clarkbr01&idx=bbr__players&p2yrfrom=2020
Wood: 21.4 mpg, 13.1 ppg, 6.3 rpg, .620 eFG%, 3.1 BPM, 1.7 VORP
Clarke: 22.4 mpg, 12.1 ppg, 5.9 rpg, .642 eFG%, 3.1 BPM, 1.7 VORP
The other surprising similarity is that Wood is only 1 year older even though it was his 4th year in the NBA, and Clarke's rookie season.
Wood does have a few red flags, though. One, his big numbers were posted as a starter during a time Detroit went 6-20, including a season ending 1-12 streak, though it's fair to say he had very little help from a very thin team at that point. But one cautionary maxim I generally agree with is "beware big numbers on a team that loses regularly & badly." The other red flag is how many chances Wood has had and how many teams have given up on him. I don't know the full story behind that, but it's strange how often he has been let go, even with a nearly risk free minimum contract. My gut tells me a team like the Knicks or the Hornets will overpay him, and make it less likely he'd accept a more moderate offer from a team like the Spurs.

That bouncing around, I call the Tobias Harris syndrome. He’s a pretty damn good player, but was traded 4 times in 9 years. It’s almost like when a team got a close look, he didn’t pass the test.

I can't find much info about it, but both New Orleans and Milwaukee let him go for nothing. On paper, a productive center who costs very little made sense for both teams. It's an odd story.

Milwaukee released him because of a roster screw up on their G League team. Technicality really. Pelicans released him because Demps got fired and Griffin came in. Didn't survive regime change.

Changing topics. Jaden McDaniels. His positioning in the draft is all over the place. Does anyone have a handle on him? Sounds like the anti-Spur, but if he somehow dropped to 41, would they take him? They seem to look for value like this when possible.

27 years old. Awfully young for a general manager
Boomers great Matt Nielsen's rapid rise through world basketball coaching ranks has continued with his appointment as head coach of the San Antonio Spurs' NBA G League affiliate, the Austin Spurs.
The 42-year-old's promotion comes after just one season as an Austin assistant under Blake Ahearn, who vacated the head coach role to take up an assistant position with the NBA's Memphis Grizzlies in June.
Nielsen, a three-time Olympian with the Boomers, has been on an upward coaching trajectory since calling time on an outstanding playing career in Australia and Europe in 2013.

The guy refuses to move without the ball, has butted heads with multiple players/coaches and is accustomed to a system/styles of play that bends to his will, never sacrificing for the good of the team.
‘There are very few NBA players that have had entire offensive systems built around their considerable talents. Harden is one of those select few, which speaks volumes for his overall skill.
Still, wouldn’t touch with a 10 ft pole...

with that being said I hope we move up in the draft and get an All-Star caliber player via trade. That would be ideal. The 11th pick and Aldridge, DeRozan (if he opts in) and Gay being on expirings definitely puts us in a good position to make some moves. I just hope RC and Brian Wright don't fuck it up like they used to do the past 3 years
If they really want to get better now, it's a two-year plan. This draft doesn't have any obvious All-Star caliber players. Someone may emerge, but it's a dart throw. BUT... this draft does have a pretty good number of players who could be solid rotation guys, and some second- or third-option types. I would love to see them get an extra first, and maybe swap their second for something closer to 31. They could put together a pretty good supporting cast, with a whole bunch of them being on cheap deals. And that would get them out of cap hell.
Then put all the young guys on the floor this season. Give them a LOT of minutes and let them develop, and learn to play with each other. That should get them a high lottery pick in next year's draft, when they have a chance to add that franchise player of the future from the draft.
I wouldn't throw resources at moving up in this draft. And I sure as shit wouldn't keep kicking the can down the road with guys who aren't going to win a ship, and would be over the hill when the young guys finally come into their primes. Getting out of cap hell is vital, and it's important to have a group that are on cheap scale contracts at the same time, so that the team can afford to ad some veterans. Then when it's time for the young guys to get paid, you're holding Bird rights to them.
That whole rebuild in-place shtick only worked because they had the Big 3 locked down.

I'm with you on that. I would keep White, Lonnie, Keldon, Luka and Quindary. I'm cool with trading everybody else. 11th pick should only be included if you can move up and ideally you keep it. The good thing is there are plenty of talented guys available. I'd love to see a DeRozan trade to Brooklyn. They got Levert, Harris, Allen and Dinwiddie, all who I'd love to have on the team. Pacers are shopping Myles Turner. Clippers might want to get rid of PG13. If you move Aldridge Horford is definitely an option to look at. Jrue Holiday is available as well. Spurs can also package Poeltl in a S&T. There are some teams who need a Center and don't have cap space. Plenty of options and if they are really aggressive and make more than just 1 trade, this team might be fun to watch again.

If they could find a way to get Tucker and Holiday without giving up LMA, DMDR, White or Johnson, it'd be a really interesting set of circumstances. It's possible that LAL could have enough of a hangover to where the Spurs could sneak past them. It wouldn't be a good chance at a title or anything. But I think they'd be the four-seed if they managed to pull such an off-season off and ended up with:
White/Mills
Holiday/Weatherspoon
DeRozan/Johnson
Tucker/Samanic
Aldridge/Poeltl
It's not perfect, but it's good enough to where a good MLE offensive wing might make it worth a shot.

Chris Paul and Kawhi on the same team would allow me to hate them even more. Also, it would almost certainly further implode that team. Kawhi needs help but still wants all the credit. It's too good to be true. Plus they're both often injured and would probably fight over who gets to rest on which game. So good.

I've made multiple trades that you've commented on today with DeRozan going out. Maybe you/your source knows more, but I wouldn't be surprised to see the Spurs trying to be buyers this off-season. If DMDR is leaving, maybe they want to replace him ala DMDR for Leonard. Dunno. There's been smoke about them in the top half of the lottery, but I think them being in so many rumors when all these vets are on the block makes me think SA is still in win-now mode.
Plus the more you insist on something, the less you can walk it back if it doesn't work out the way you believed it would.

Last year, I think 26 teams thought they were playoff teams. Spurs being one of them. It'll be interesting if many of those teams that missed out still think they can get to the next level. Or would they concede that they are not as good as they thought?

True, I don't have much faith in RC and Brian Wright.
The DeMarre Carroll fiasco alone was a jaw-dropping disaster. Costing the broke-arse Spurs ownership $6,167,887 in dead money next year and $1,252,127 in 21-22 is ridiculous, coming after the Pau debacle (which cost them $12 million in dead cap this year for both of them). Even I could tell when firing up the Nets games last summer to take a look at him that Carroll was finished.
These guys are about to 12:01 Forbes into a 4 year deal, I can feel it.
And a smart team will scoop up Walker from them for cheap. Before the bubble I was sure it was White getting dumped, but they failed their way into finding out he could play when they decided to preserve the health of Forbes. Now they might be too embarrassed to trade White, but Walker will be an easy pick-up from the guys who paid $5 million to throw Danny Green into the Kawhi deal and thought that Dante Cunningham and DeMarre Carroll were quality small forwards.

hell, I thought he was a good idea 2 years ago, but I wasn't really watching him and studying him. As soon as the news broke for the Spurs I re-watched the 5 or so games I had on DVR from random TNT or ESPN games for the NETS and realized he sure looked cooked. His advance defensive stats looked okay if I remember right but watching the games it was plain to see that his numbers were flukey and he wasn't doing anything to make anyone miss, they just missed shots. He couldn't keep anyone in front of him at all.
So Lonnie is with the cancer agency now. That makes two Klutch pros on the rotation. Coincidence TD steps back with this development? Glad I got out when I did.

I laughed a good bit reading this part of Zach Lowe's tweet regarding Lonnie Walker signing with Klutch:
After establishing himself as a key part of San Antonio's rotation,
I mean, we all know that he was out of the rotation period until the bubble when Forbes sat and LMA & Lyles sat out leading to DDR et al to slide up to PF.
If/when Forbes is re-signed, then Lonnie will go back to being out of the rotation as he fights Keldon and possibly whoever they draft at 11 for spot minutes behind DDR at SF, if there even are any to be had.

that's true. Even Horford should be available for a Mills and Gay package. I'm just not sure if they want to go old again by signing players 30 and up. If they can get a Center by trading for the #2 pick you'd end up with a young core of White/Walker/Johnson/Samanic/Wiseman. That starting 5 has a lot of potential in the future

But House is upset? Really? The dude was kicked out of the playoffs by the NBA bc he brought in a lady friend from outside the bubble. Nobody gives a f that he is upset. And Rivers? Dude is lucky to be in the league.

I'm asking myself the same question. Apparently they need a PG and had Josh Richardson run point for some time during last season. They might just think Mills is a better fit, so Simmons can play the 3. It would still be a dumb move on their side if you ask me, but I don't think there's anybody here who wouldn't do the deal as long as you don't have to include a 1st round pick.

Can speak for RD, but Kuz always just struck me as a guy who thinks he is way better than he is.
If we wanted a guy to play 1 good game and then follow it up with 4 crappers, we could have just kept Richard Jefferson.
Oh I agree. Kuz is still a young developing player. He made strives defensively but his offense digressed without Longo spoon feeding him buckets. He got hurt playing for Pop over the summer and was behind the 8ball all year.
Pop knows his game. If Kuz played for anybody but the Lakers he'd do the deal and not look back. :lol
Danny Green is basically and expiring $15 million dollar deal. Pelinka would sweeten the deal with our 2020 1st rounder but it won't be enough :lmao

Rumor is Mills for Josh Richardson straight up. That would be huge for us
Mills would help their team but I highly doubt they'd trade Richardson for Mills. Problem is that they really don't have other trade filler that would match up with Mills in which they don't take on even more salary.

Dallas Gets: Danny Green

Lakers Gets: DeRozan
Richardson is barely a worse shooter, while better in every other aspect of the game.
Richardson always struck me as more of a general scorer, not a shooter. He shot .349 on threes over the last two years, while Mills shot .388 on higher volume.
That adds up when you are playing Moreyball.
Also, Mills is six inches shorter and we all know how much Morey loves his small ball :downspin:

I think the Spurs could/should ask for a second 1st rounder. Mills and Gay for Horford and their 2020 (they can make the pick for us and then complete the trade) and 2021 first's or their 2021 and 2023 firsts.

Pop didn't seem to care about it all this time using an even worse player as a starter (Forbes), perhaps the "3pt shooting" factor has a disproportionately greater value than any other quality in the current league, it would be good to win a trade for the first time after many years.

Richardson is barely a worse shooter, while better in every other aspect of the game.
Richardson did not work out as the back up PG. His ball handling skills are lacking. And he is a significantly worse shooter. Last year he shot 34.1% from 3 and 42.6% overall while Mills was 38.2% and 53.3% respectively. Richardson PER 13.7, Mills 14.8. So whether they keep Simmons or trade for Hardin they will need a back up point guard which Patty can do just fine. Richardson is the vastly superior defender, but when has Morey put any emphasis on that? Not to mention he is a stray peanut away from a career ending injury.
DeRozan to the Lakers is basically a thank you to DeRozan. It's garbage to us, but consistent with the Spurs "suck off players to preserve free agency good will".

here's one of the main reason why people beleive that Mills for Richardson can be done.
1. Both are on an Expiring contract
2. Mills fits in perfectly with 76ers and next to simmons
3. he's the Backup pg for them
4. they have a shot at resigning him, if it works out
5. Richardson doesn't fit well with the 76ers
6. They wouldn't be able to resign him.
6. so, 76ers either just let him walk or get a player back that fits there system.
Here's the issue, just what is Richardson value?

Hmm, you risk GSW not being content with 21 and/or getting a better offer in that time frame, then being stuck having traded down to 21. I'd rather do the deal (with GSW) straight-up, or try to include other pieces to send out to Philly (a second rounder maybe) instead of using #11 in the deal.

Hear what you’re saying and don’t want to risk a bigger trade with a small one.
If you have the GSW deal done in principal, you could always loop in the Sixers as a third team. Easier to make salaries in/out match that way. But Warriors probably hold off until last minute for best possible offer.
Another version if Philly is desperate to get off Horford given fit with Embiid:
Spurs: Horford + #2
Philly: Wiggins + Mills + Looney
GSW: Aldridge + Richardson
If dealing LMA, would much rather have Horford than Wiggins, though others here may disagree. And taking on Horford instead of Wiggins could save the Spurs from trading 11.

I was just thinking something along these lines when I heard the Richardson rumor.
I don't know if the Warriors would trade out entirely, but a cost controlled (for probably two seasons), prime aged version of what Vassell (who they're supposedly high on) projects to be, would have to be appealing.
It's also a lot of salary for the 76ers to take on. It becomes more palatable for them in that sense if it's Harris instead of Horford.

– One clear theme right now is that few teams are attached to their picks in the back half of the first round. Broadly speaking, a majority of first-round selections beginning with Minnesota at No. 17 are widely thought to be available. Brace yourselves for an unpredictable week.
With the consensus of parity amongst certain prospects in the teens to late 1st, can see a situation where Spurs may feel they can rebuild quickly with multiple rotation type pieces in the 1st round.

There is much to take away when combing information from the other active threads, but how much of it actually rings true?
When I think of the Spurs identity, above all else it comes down to culture - cultivation of talent, and promotion from within.
Be that a expanded role in FO or extended minutes on the court, Spurs care more about the people/the individuals, than the product on the court.
It is hard to envision scenarios where all the players mentioned as either leaving in FA or being involved in some form of trade scenario, actually comes to fruition.
The players mentioned - Forbes, Bellinelli, Aldridge, DeRozan, Mills not to mention possibly White or Dejounte in other scenarios.
Tim Duncan leaving may also have have seemed like a formality for some time, but it is yet still another departure on a list that is expected to widen in one off season. I'm not sure.
I think one of DeRozan/LA is gone - Mills will stay, and Forbes and Bellinelli will leave in FA. That's still 3 (Spurs deemed) rotation players, an assistant coach gone in one off season.

The truth is that the spurs might blow it all up around the 4 guards (lonnie, murray, white, keldon) because they know the "culture" is dead. It will happen sooner or later that a new core evolves. At the end of the day, they have to sell tickets and new players are easier to sell than "legacies" who aren't stars.

I know Harris really expenisve, but he's the only max guy on the team at this point, he is still a solid 2 way player people forget he could easy average 20 pts a game, he's had an efg% over 50 these past few years, can shoot the 3 and play defense. Plus he fits perfectly for us the sf or pf.

Per source, the Philadelphia 76ers and San Antonio Spurs May have a larger deal in place than what was reported yesterday. It appears that Tobias Harris and Demar Derozan will be the centerpieces of this trade.
Is this guy reliable ? never heard something of him.

No, dude just makes rumors up. nothing to see here.

I would have to disagreed. Wiggins probably is a little bit better on the defensive ends, but offesnivly Harris is better.
He has higher efg%, 2pt% higher 3pts %, Fg% outside of Fg%, Harris is easily over 50% on every other catergory. while Wiggins is at the high 40's
I wouldn't be surprised if it was more Future trade filler + 2021 salary relief + 28th pick for DeMar.
Huh? The Spurs’ books are clear in 2021.

The Detroit Pistons have been linked to various prospects the Spurs have. Not uncommon with teams at this time I’m sure.
https://pistonpowered.com/2020/11/12/detroit-pistons-lamelo-workout/
Ball joins the list of Tyrese Haliburton, Killian Hayes, Kira Lewis Jr., R.J. Hampton, and Aaron Nesmith as players who have been confirmed to have worked out with Detroit. Michigan State’s Xavier Tillman was seen shooting around at their facility, but it may not have been a formal workout.
Detroit also appears to have a genuine interest in LaMelo Ball...
https://twitter.com/DraftExpress/status/1327042527304818689?s=20
which made me wonder, could they be involved in a 3 team trade with SA and GS?
GS: LA, Kennard from Detroit
Detroit: Wiggins from GS, Gay and 2nd pick
Spurs: Griffin from Detroit, 7th pick
This is a trade I feel that benefits all 3 teams moving forward.

It’s the same guy who said Spurs will send d white for 2 second rounds
I got into it with some dude on that feed. He’s on there saying that the spurs need to do the deal because they have no choice and Pop is gonna retire soon so...76ers fans love the trade and think it could actually happen.

I can see the Dubs looking at Love, but I don't see them trading Draymond. Spurs should definitely not wait too long to make moves, otherwise the market will dry up and so will the offers

There’s no way GS are taking Love’s contract unless Wiggins is going the other way.

Agreed, don't buy this for a second. The luxury tax bill would be insane. It'd also mean dropping one of their best playmakers and versatile defenders in Green, who IMO is a must-have piece if they're serious about ringing again. I'm not buying into any rumors that feature Draymond going out, Warriors FO is smarter than that.

The Rockets forum has a reputable insider, much like the Hawks' forum does. His info is pretty trustworthy:
He says Westbrook may be traded for Kevin Love.
"I also have heard that Harden is not happy at all - despite the Shams report. What Perkins was speaking is truth. Expect him to play out at least next season with the Rox."

Per league sources: teams, players and agents will be informed of adjusted deadlines for options, guarantees, qualifying offers and extensions this Friday. That is when teams will be informed of the new deadlines, not the date to exercise them.
