**Good news on OL/DL Arik Armstead. His father spoke with Oscar Giles on Tuesday evening and they're getting close to setting up his official to UT. It's looking like banquet weekend on December 9th and 10th will be the best dates for their family.

**There are a couple of guys in the 2013 class that I think UT can wrap up rather quickly once they offer. 2013 ATH Chevoski Collins of Livingston is one of them. Random fact that I didn't know about previously...he's the cousin of Longhorns DE Cedric Reed. See his quotes:

“We talk about Texas all the time,” said Collins, an ESPNU 150 Watch List member. “I never thought we’d play together. But there is a chance now.”

Any truth to the rumor that Manny Diaz is going to interview for the Ole Miss job?

Haven't seen it on any UT related sites yet but I've been expecting the talk since Nutt was fired. I don't think the Diaz family is any rush to get back to Mississippi and it can be argued that job is a step down from where he's currently at.

So I guess Texas is cancelling the Arkansas game? Or maybe it was a mutual decision to end that game?

Either way it's no surprise. Texas wants all the cupcake games they can get, they don't want to play Arky.

Arkansas is actually the one that pushed the game back to 2014. There was a lot of speculation that the game wouldn't be rescheduled when it was pushed back. This isn't anything new or surprising.

As a Texas graduate and fan, I would love to see the Longhorns play Arkansas.

Juco DE Autry sets Texas visit date http://a.espncdn.com/i/in.gif

AUSTIN, Texas -- Heralded junior college defensive end Denico Autry (http://espn.go.com/college-sports/football/recruiting/player/_/id/140937/denico-autry) (Scooba, Miss./East Mississippi Community College) has set a date for an official visit to Texas, according to DawgNation’s Kipp Adams.

According to Adams, Autry will visit Texas for the Nov. 19 game against Kansas State in the Longhorns’ last home game. He has also set official visits to Florida (Nov. 25) and Oklahoma State (Dec. 2).

Autry (6-foot-6, 250 pounds), who has dozens of offers from across the country, would be a huge boost for the Longhorns, who are looking to add at least one more defensive end to the fold for their 2012 recruiting class.

They are getting some good scoops. I'm considering a subscription. Does anybody know if ESPN still offers Insider access if you have a subscription to ESPN The Magazine?

Truly amazing that Texas could host 3 JUCOs for Purple Kansas. Hawkins definitely holds a Texas offer, Autry holds a Texas offer per Rivals, and Moore has an offer per HornsNation. If you hire SEC coaches and you give them the keys, they're going to recruit JUCOs. I love it. JUCO isn't a bad word. All 3 JUCOs can help Texas immediately.

Per Hook 'Em 24/7 this morning, WR Dorial Green-Beckham will be visiting Austin this upcoming Saturday for Kansas State. He is also scheduled to be at Auburn on Thanksgiving weekend. Apparently he and his family tentatively scheduled these visits because they knew the Webb City game would likely be his last. Below is the attendees list for next weekend that we know of so far:

WR, Marcus Johnson, League City Clear Springs
OL, Donald Hawkins, Northwest Mississippi CC
DT, Brandon Moore, East Mississippi CC
DE, Denico Autry, East Mississippi CC
DB, Adrian Colbert, Mineral Wells
ATH, Daje Johnson, Pflugerville Hendrickson

I really like that visitors list. All of those players are deserving of offers. Johnson feels like the DGB back-up plan, but he's an elite recruit in his own right.

Poor Daje Johnson, 3 straight Texas home games, wearing Texas gear during the last visit, and he's still waiting for a Texas offer. Given the rash of injuries, perhaps Texas learns their lesson and offers Daje. You can't have enough good backs when you're running it 50+ times a game.

I think Hawkins is the answer at RT right away if Texas can get him.

Autry would give Texas another look at DE. I like what Jeffcoat and Okafor have done recently, but Autry gives Texas another edge rusher in the rotation.

Colbert will finally set down with Mack this weekend and get his offer officially. A lot of people think Colbert is the next commit, I agree but I'm not sure it goes down this weekend.

Moore could replace Randall, and we could be taking away a desperately needed player from the Aggies. Win - win.

Certainly an exciting list of visitors. Should be a big recruiting weekend. I hope Mean Joe and Malcolm are healthy and we pull a tough one out against K State.

Update on DE Denico Autry...there's a chance he may forgo visiting Texas next weekend in favor of Florida. One of his teammates, DT Damien Jacobs (who's committed to Tennessee), will be making the trip to Gainesville and he's pushing Autry to travel with him. Worth nothing that Autry has been considered a Tennessee lean for some time now and Jacobs could have something to do with that. Hopefully Bo Davis can intervene and convince him to come to Austin with DT Brandon Moore.

Monday morning notes from Hook 'Em 24/7...

**The nationally ranked, out-of-state prospect that UT is recruiting who has yet to be named is in the process of setting up an official visit to Austin and should have a date set this week. The mystery recruit has said once the visit is set up with the staff, he'll feel comfortable with his name being released to the public. Because we don't currently know who this recruit is, it's also impossible to know who is recruiting him other than UT. However, he said the Longhorns are getting serious consideration.

**OL/DL Arik Armstead's father reiterated this weekend that the family is currently scheduling an official visit to UT after productive talks with Oscar Giles. However, Armstead will not be in Austin this weekend as he's planned a trip to Eugene for Oregon/USC. That leaves banquet weekend in December as the most likely date for his trip to campus. His father went on to say that if he doesn't end up signing with USC (who he was originally committed to), then he'll go with another West Coast school (Cal, Oregon, Washingston) or Texas. Alabama and Notre Dame do not appear to be in the race despite receiving official visits.

**Texas is really picking up their efforts with 2013 OT Ishmael Wilson of Dallas Bishop Dunne and he's apparently emerging as an early offer candidate. Wilson says that he's comfortable putting the Horns in his #2 spot. Unfortunately, being a Louisiana native, he's just waiting on LSU to offer and isn't shy about saying he'll commit to the Tigers if given the chance to do so.

It seems like 2013 is not our DT year. The top DTs in the state have someone else as favorites.

Ashawn Robinson (not sure if spelled correctly) is our main hope and I think that Texas would much rather have him as an OL. Am I wrong??

I sort of agree. Texas trails for Manning and Golden, but it's so early that they could come back. I'm not sure if Ben Hughes has a favorite.

People are kind of down on Robinson after some of his junior film came out. I'd like to see more before I make a conclusion. It could have been a bad couple of games. Robinson looked great in the scrimmages / early junior season reports.

Denico Autry visit up in the air http://a.espncdn.com/i/in.gif

By William Wilkerson

AUSTIN, Texas -- There seems to be some confusion as to whether heralded junior college defensive end Denico Autry (http://espn.go.com/college-sports/football/recruiting/player/_/id/140937/denico-autry) (Scooba, Miss./East Mississippi Community College) will take an official visit to Texas on Nov. 19 or not.

Autry, who holds an offer from Texas, told HornsNation on Sunday that he “thinks he set one up” for this weekend in Austin.

“But I haven’t heard from them so I don’t know my status,” Autry said.

I hope Armstead was watching the Texas Hoops game last night. Exciting basketball from an extremely young team. All UT favoritism aside, Texas offers Armstead the best basketball and football combination. Oregon basketball is progressing, but hasn't been nearly as successful as Texas during the Rick Barnes Era.There will some heavy hitters at Banquet Weekend.

I like Wilson as prospect. For a private school, Bishop Dunne is loaded. If we're talking Dallas 2013 OTs, I'd like to see J.J. Gustafson's name more. I know he has Aggie connections in his family, but he is a helluva player. Somebody will get a good one.

Some quotes from OT Donald Hawkins as he prepares for his official visit to UT:

"I like those three as my top (OSU, UT, Florida), but I have some rebound schools if something doesn't work out - Mississippi State and Arkansas," Hawkins said.

"Coach Searels is a big part of what has Texas up there," Hawkins said. "I feel like he's a good character guy. He seems like a man of his word. Texas is a nice place and he's pretty high on me. Right now, we hit it off. After this visit I should know everything that I wanted to know about Texas."

"I try not to commit off of hype. Right now, I'm thinking everybody a fair chance. Even if I like something (on the visit), I don't want to commit off of hype," Hawkins said.

"Coach Searels cut to the chase. He said they have a right tackle that's a guard and they have a left tackle that's a freshman. But anywhere you go, you'll have to compete," Hawkins said. "I would like to play left tackle, but I'll play whatever to get on the field."

Hawkins has emphasized that he's looking for a school where he can come in and start immediately. UT fits that description because there's no way the staff recruits a JUCO to be a back-up. He'll graduate in December and be eligible for spring practice in 2012. The only potential hiccup seems to be getting him to qualify for enrollment. He'll take an official visit to Florida next weekend and he'll be in Stillwater the weekend after that.

AUSTIN, Texas -- The Longhorns would have a very good chance at landing junior college defensive tackle Brandon Moore (Scooba, Miss./East Mississippi Community College) if they want him, according to EMCC coach Buddy Stephens.

Moore, who signed with Alabama out of Montgomery (Ala.) Carver High School in 2009, has a really good relationship with Texas defensive tackles coach Bo Davis, who was on the Crimson Tide’s staff at the time Moore signed.

“I know that if that is the way Texas wants to go, then Brandon Moore will be all over it,” Stephens said. “He wants to play for Bo Davis. I don’t know where Texas is with an offer, but it they do [offer Moore] he will be at the University of Texas.”

It's possible Moore didn't pass the vetting process because things were heating up quickly and seemed to stop abruptly. Maybe Mack saw something he didn't like, the staff didn't want to risk taking another DT and upsetting a guy like Malcom Brown or they feel like they have a good enough shot with Javonte Magee. Who knows.

Interesting. Gerry Hamilton implied and down that Moore got dismissed at Alabama for minor offenses. Something like several minor violations of team rules. It sounds kind of odd to me. It seems like it would take a lot for such a promising player to get kicked out of Alabama. Agreed there could be more to the story.

Malcom Brown is good enough to start at Texas right now, but I hope a starting spot wasn't promised to him. I like the mix of Brown, Whaley, Doresey and Howell at DT next year, but I think a JUCO DT could help. I'd be pretty surprised if another JUCO DT popped up on the radar. I'd be all for taking Damien Jacobs if it got us Denico Autry.

When was the last time Texas recruiting was this exciting in mid November? Probably never. Hook 'Em.

Speaking of DT Javonte Magee, news coming down today that he will take official visits to A&M, Baylor and Texas. Alabama and LSU are also possibilities but him wanting to remain close to his mother is helping the in-state schools. No dates have been set but hopefully things will pick up a bit now that Sam Houston is out of the playoffs.

**A bit of bad news. Looks like DB Adrian Colbert will not be attending the UT game this weekend because he's sick. He's still scheduled to make his official visit to Austin for banquet weekend on December 9th-10th followed by his official to TCU the next week and Baylor on January 14th-15th.

**ATH Kendall Sanders' recruitment got a bit more interesting since his Facebook post from earlier this week. According to OrangeBloods, a source in Athens had a conversation with Sanders recently and revealed to them that Texas has extended an offer at WR. Sanders and those close to him are denying these claims.

**One more from OrangeBloods...they reported a while back that source close to DE Torshiro Davis had told them that UT was in a better position with this recruitment than most people realize. That same source said this week that "things have changed" after Davis' official to Alabama and UT has "more than a puncher's chance." This report confirms the idea that Davis is not a priority for Alabama making Texas the biggest competition for LSU at the moment.

**UT apparently has a nice "in" with OL/DL Arik Armstead. Turns out his father and UT basketball legend, LaSalle Thompson, have been friends for quite some time. Thompson was on campus this week for the Rhode Island game because UT honored him at halftime as the "Legend of the Game." Thompson called Armstead's father the very next day and told him just how serious the UT staff (both football and basketball) was about his son.

**Doesn't look like 2013 DT Isaiah Golden will be in attendance for the K-State game. Transportation is an issue for him but he's said he will be in College Station on Thanksgiving.

**Lastly, an updated attendees list for this weekend's game. Wouldn't be surprised to see some 2012 commitments show up with DGB in town:

WR, Dorial Green-Beckham, Hillcrest (Springfield, MO)
OL, Donald Hawkins, Northwest Mississippi CC
ATH, Daje Johnson, Pflugerville Hendrickson

Some stories just write themselves. Pay attention to the last sentence:

Ozen's Michael quiet like his brother, Christine
By Jared Ainsworth [email protected] (409) 880-0723
Published 08:30 p.m., Thursday, November 17, 2011

Practically every night, Andrew Michael arrives home and showers, eats, washes dishes, finishes his homework and is in bed by 9:30 p.m.
"We don't let the late-night light burn over here," his father, Andrew Sr., said.
Andrew, a junior receiver at Ozen, has a quiet, business-like approach to life and football. He tries to pattern his actions after his older brother, Christine, a junior running back at Texas A&M who was the Big XII freshman of the year in 2009 and had rushed for 899 yards and 10 touchdowns this season before tearing an anterior cruciate ligament earlier this month.
"He's influenced me a lot in all areas of my life - school-wise, off the field, on the field," Andrew said. "I want to be just like my brother."
In many ways he already is.
Ozen football coach Jeff Nelson initially met Christine when he was the offensive coordinator at West Brook, where Christine was a star running back from 2006 to 2008.
Nelson remembers a shy, reserved kid who didn't talk much. He had a similar first impression of Andrew.
"They have the same personality," said Nelson, whose Panthers will face Brenham in the second round of the Class 4A Division II playoffs at 7:30 p.m. today at Thorne Stadium in Aldine. "They're kind of standoffish but once they get to know you they're lovable."
"They like to get a feel for you so they'll know how to approach you," Andrew Sr. said. "I would use the word shy when it comes to those guys."
Andrew Sr. currently wears Christine's ring from playing in last year's Cotton Bowl against LSU. Awards and achievements aren't what Christine and Andrew desire, he said.
When Christine attended a football camp at the University of Texas following his sophomore year at West Brook, he was given an autographed football for having one of the camp's top showings. But upon returning home he removed the ball from its glass case and kicked it around the yard. The autographs on the 2005 national championship football didn't mean a thing.
"I was like, 'Man, what are you doing?'" Andrew Sr. said. "He was like, 'Daddy, it's just a football.' That's the attitude those guys have. What they do (on the football field) is natural. They don't get the big head."
On the field is where the brothers begin to differ. Christine was a starting running back at West Brook for three seasons and rushed for 1,412 yards and 25 touchdowns his senior year before heading to A&M.
In addition to playing different positions, the 5-foot-11, 215-pound Christine relies on power as much as speed while Andrew, who is a slimmer 5-foot-9, 165 pounds, uses his quickness and ability to make opponents miss in the open field.
"Not many backs come through that are as talented as Christine in the state," Nelson said. "As far as athletically for his position, he was ahead of the curve. Andrew had a breakout game against Nederland but he's still kind of young to the game. He's still got a lot to learn."
Andrew is the Panthers' second-leading receiver with 17 catches for 279 yards and four touchdowns. In that Nederland game, a 44-41 loss on Oct. 28, he had seven receptions for 202 yards and two touchdowns.
He constantly compares his game to Christine's. He wants to improve his speed and explosiveness to that of his brother.
"Christine is exactly where Andrew wants to be," Andrew Sr. said. "I hate to use the term idolized, but he's in his footsteps."
During the summer, the two worked out at A&M. When together, Andrew said they can't stop laughing as Christine constantly chimes in with jokes. They aren't always the quiet kids Nelson first met.
"They know how to have fun," Nelson said.
Where Andrew goes following his days at Ozen isn't certain. He'd love to follow his brother to A&M. But he said Christine has other visions for his future.
"I want to go to A&M," Andrew said. "It would be cool but he wants me to be in a better place than him. Like he wants me to be at LSU or something like that."

WR Marcus Johnson will be at tonight's game

Here's the updated attendees list for tonight's game:

RB, Johnathan Gray, Aledo
WR, Dorial Green-Beckham, Hillcrest (Springfield, MO)
WR, Marcus Johnson, League City Clear Springs
WR, Cayleb Jones, S.F. Austin
OL, Donald Hawkins, Northwest Mississippi CC
ATH, Daje Johnson, Pflugerville Hendrickson
-------------------------------------------------
DB, Antwuan Davis, Bastrop
ATH, Chevoski Collins, Livingston

I'm not sure on Jones, but Gray will be attending with his family and stay until Sunday morning. Nice to see these two guys show up to help with DGB. With the news of a possible offer to ATH Kendall Sanders this week, the news on WR Marcus Johnson is very interesting. Either this kid is simply UT crazy or he's getting offered tonight. He has a game in Baytown at 1:00 so he won't be able to leave for Austin until at least 4:00. Rarely do you see recruits make that kind of effort when a long drive is ahead of them. UT isn't going to offer five guys at WR so I'm wondering if Sanders is being looked at for defense. Tough to figure out what the staff is thinking here (especially when you bring in another WR the same night you host the best WR in the nation).

I like seeing the Grays hosting the Beckhams. There is no better family to represent the University. I'd camp out at Manuel's on Congress if you want the best chance to see both.

I love the effort from Marcus Johnson. He isn't f***ing around. An offer wouldn't shock me, and it'd be well deserved.

Daje Johnson is UT crazy. I think he's take based on his SPARQ score alone.

Floss any thinking around the program that Kendall Sanders might he offered as a WR / utility back? I believe he plays both for Athens.

I'd like to see a longer list. In my opinion, Texas' greatest needs are at OT, WR and DE. Two out of three ain't bad. Hopefully Texas can continue the positive momentum with Torshiro Davis.

At DT, I'd wait on attrition and offer Brandon Moore. His coach basically told HornsNation that he's ours if Texas offers. The coach went on to say that Moore wants to play for Bo Davis. Period. End of sentence.

Here's to Johnathan Gray giving Donald Hawkins the you should want to block for me sales pitch.

Both guys are on the same flight out of Austin today so they'll have more time to talk. The craziest thing Hawkins said concerns DT Brandon Moore. See his quote below:

"I don't know if he actually gave them an verbal commitment but he said he was coming here. He said he's going to be here (at Texas) in January."

UT is expecting attrition along the DL (possibly two guys) so Moore would be an excellent pick-up. He wants to play for Bo Davis so hopefully he can make his way into the mix before all is said and done.

I'm waiting on the official commitment announcement. Maybe Moore wants to talk it over with his family and coach before making a statement. Would be a huge pick up. The coaches have some tough choices to make. I love Marcus Johnson's game, but I'd have to put him behind Sanders and Coleman because they could play multiple positions at Texas. Johnson is a WR all the way, so it doesn't give Texas much flexibility.

My feeling is that Johnson is either the DGB back up plan OR they're expecting more attrition at WR. I don't think they can take both.

**More on WR Marcus Johnson...according to him, he got to Austin around halftime and said he enjoyed the visit. He talked with Applewhite after the game was over and was told that UT is looking to take two more WRs and that he, Sanders and DGB are at the top of their list. He was told that he'll know more about a potential offer this week. The thought is Johnson's offer relies on how the staff feels about their chances with DGB, but there's also a possibility that UT offers Johnson outright to get him wrapped up and just hopes to win the lottery with DGB (he's a bonus commitment at this point). The staff is simply looking to scoop up playmakers right now at the WR position and numbers aren't a huge concern. The consenus is Johnson will switch to UT upon being offered.

**DT Javonte Magee's visit to College Station was an official. He did not commit and is still looking to schedule visits to Baylor and Texas.

**DT Brandon Moore says he did not commit to UT last night but it appears an offer is on the table. The story is being reported as if the ball is in UT's court. Moore ends up at Texas as long as the staff finds no issues with grades, behavior, etc.

Some quotes from OL Donald Hawkins after his official visit to UT:

"What stood out was the hospitality. Texas, it's a nice place to live, a nice place to go to school," Hawkins said. "It was a really good visit."

"Right now, I'm pretty high on Texas. And I'm pretty high on Oklahoma State. After this visit, I like Texas a lot," Hawkins said.

"The chances of me playing here are very high. The expectations of me here are very high. I was impressed with the recruiting class they have coming in. By my senior year, the should be a national championship contender. That's something I want. Another thing that stood out to me was how the players embraced me. They made me feel welcome. They want me to come here, said they need me. They said the missing link is me. I was impressed by that."

"Me and coach Brown sat down and talked not too long before I left. Coach Brown and coach Searels both said the expectation were very high. Coach Brown said he hasn't really recruited a JUCO guy in 14 years. With the recruiting class they have coming in, with Malcolm Brown (http://texas.rivals.com/cviewplayer.asp?Player=442129) being here, the defense is playing great, all they need is an offensive tackle."

"We all became good friends. Yesterday they (the coaches) said they were missing that big play receiver, missing the offensive tackle," Hawkins said. "We (he and Green-Beckham) both talked, and Texas is a good fit. We both play at positions they need. The expectations are high for both of us to come in and play."

I believe those kids are the younger family members that have been reported to wear UT gear a lot. I remember seeing an article where the US Army All-American reps had them change out of their UT gear before taking a picture of the Beckham family.

Quotes from WR Marcus Johnson after the K-State game. He's referring to the off-season in the last line because League City Clear Springs was knocked out of the playoffs on Saturday:

"It was great," Johnson said of the visit. "I got there at halftime because of our game. The atmosphere was crazy. I heard the cannons, looking at the players, being right by action was great. After the game I got to go in the locker room, talk to the guys. It was a tough loss but being around them and being with them was great."

"I shook hands with Mack Brown after the game and talked a little bit but he had to go talk to the press," Johnson said. "I talked with coach (Major) Applewhite most of the time. He was disappointed about the loss but he was saying hopefully they can get me up there. He said I should know something by this coming week and to stay in touch with him."

"I'm still committed (to Texas Tech) but I'm very interested in Texas," Johnson said. "Hopefully I get an offer. If it happens, then we'll cross that bridge."

"Basically I'll be getting right back to work. I want to keep my body right, continue to work hard," Johnson said. "I have track season coming up, but I'll continue to work out and get ready for college."

You probably won't see DGB give any interviews. He and his family usually stay quiet. It's being reported that the visit went VERY well. He spent a lot of time with RB Johnathan Gray and OL Camrhon Hughes but did mention on a few occasions that he wished UT was closer to home (so did his mother). Seems that distance is the only factor Texas is fighting right now because the staff hit a homerun with everything else (academics, playing time, etc.). He's going to officially visit Auburn this weekend but his final three will likely be Arkansas, OU and Texas. It's safe to say UT will have offered him the best official visit when all is said and done, but if he's choosing on distance then it probably won't work out. If he's deciding upon overall experience and comfort level, UT is always tough to beat and will have a great shot.

Per Hook 'Em 24/7, DB Adrian Colbert's decision to skip the UT game was a matter of transportation. He had been sick all week but apparently didn't have a ride to Austin. He wanted to go to a game somewhere so he decided to tag along with two Mineral Wells assistant coaches who were driving to Waco for the Baylor/OU game. The good news is he did call Duane Akina Friday night to inform him of his plans and he's still scheduled to take an official visit to UT for banquet weekend. Interesting comment for those wondering about Mack's timeline:

"Some cigar rumblings that Mack is going to have to provide an exit strategy if he doesn’t decide to step down by the end of the season. Also, as we’ve maintained for the last year or so, Chris Petersen is the guy at the top of the short list. In fact Petersen’s always been the guy as our weekly Q and A’s will attest. He’ll likely be the next coach at Texas. This from the biggest of cigars."

Could Brown/Gray/Bergeron be a second coming of McFadden/Jones/Hillis?

And then add DGB (hopefully) and Shipley to that mix? Along with a defense that is way ahead of schedule and already far and away the best in the B12?

Holy crap there should not be a single QB in the nation that could find a way to fuck that up. Not even Garrett Gilbert could. If UT doesnt find a way to at least get one NC in the next 4 years, someone needs to be brutally assasinated.

TFloss32

stretch-

It's almost impossible to recruit and handle the QB position as poorly as Texas has in the past four or five years being in the center of the richest QB state in the nation. THREE Texans are Davey O'Brien finalists this year (Keenum, Luck and RG3). I understand most coaches would've taken Gilbert out of high school (nobody could've predicted that flop), but you can't skip a whole recruiting cycle with out taking at least 1 QB. Not signing someone, anyone in 2008 because Gilbert was already deemed the McCoy replacement while still a junior in high school is massive contributor to the vicious cycle we're seeing at the position right now. Just having an average QB taking snaps means UT probably has two more wins this year (Mizzou, K-State). Whittaker's success before his knee injury was clearly covering up the ineptitude of the QB play.

I don't see how you go into Spring 2012 without a true QB competition, but I really hope Brewer is afforded the opportunity to redshirt. There comes a point where you have to roll with someone otherwise you keep throwing young QB after young QB into the fire. Where does it stop? Glad I'm not Harsin right now.

They need to give ash some more time. I think he can do it.

I think that potential is there as well and he should be redshirting if it weren't necessary for him to play, but he's just been horrid these past two games since Fozzy went down. His decision-making seems to be a result of being completely overwhelmed and his accuracy is lacking on the simplest routes. Harsin had a nice gameplan in the 1st quarter against K-State to get Ash comfortable with short throws and he couldn't complete a five-yard slant. Hopefully a two QB rotation tomorrow night will be better for his psyche.

Brewer needs to redshirt. Problem is he can't if McCoy transfers. Hopefully the starting job opening back up keeps Case in Austin for another year so Brewer and Overstreet can redshirt. The positive aspect of all this is that Ash and McCoy can't get any worse and will only improve with another offseason.

That's what sucks so much about the current situation. Can you really make a conclusion about Ash after only five games as a starter considering he's a true freshman who didn't get proper reps in the offseason because of the Gilbert experiment? Normally you wouldn't have a knee-jerk reaction like that but I agree that Ash just isn't helping himself at all. Harsin is going to have to determine at some point if he can pass this season off as growing pains or if Ash simply doesn't have "it." You go with Brewer and you risk being right back where you're currently at. Like I said above, when is the proper time to bite the bullet and pick someone? There has to be a stopgap somewhere and a JUCO QB doesn't look like a realistic option.

I don't think Bo Davis would bring him in if he couldn't see significant playing time and help with depth at DT. DMX got lucky. Here are some quotes from Mr. Beckham after DGB's official to UT:

"We had been there this past summer. We came for a visit previously so it was lot of repeat of what we had seen earlier. But it's a great place, Austin is a great town," coach Beckham said. "Everybody was very hospitable. He had a really good time."

"Obviously, they're short of bodies at wide receiver. I couldn't really tell you the number or depth chart, but I know they were saying that going into spring practice, they're going to be short on scholarship wide receivers," coach Beckham said. "They're going to bring in several wide receivers this year and Dorial would have an opportunity to come in and compete for playing time right away."

"It's not really something he talks about much. Of course, everybody wants to come in and play as soon as he can, and I'm sure he does too, but we're not studying depth charts and seeing who is coming in where or what wide receivers are going to which schools to find easiest road as far as competition," coach Beckham said.

"The first impressions that you get from Johnathan Gray is that he's kind of a fun guy to be around, he's easy to be around. Dorial is the same way. It takes about an hour and then you'll be like best friends," coach Beckham said. "I know they had a good time and Dorial had a good time with other recruits there. That's just kind of fits his personality."

"I would say that's the biggest hurdle for Texas, the distance factor. Texas has everything to offer for Dorial as far as education, opportunities, opportunities after graduation and the football program itself. They have everything to offer any recruit. There are several schools that have that as well. The biggest negative for Dorial is that there is a distance," coach Beckham said. "It's obviously not a deal breaker or he wouldn't have made an official visit, but it's probably the biggest negative in viewing Texas. But there's a non-stop flight from Branson, Missouri, about 30 minutes south of here. The biggest thing as a parent is not so much distance, it's about having relatively easy access and there is that."

I believe there actually two options out of Branson, MO. You can take Branson Air Express or Frontier non-stop to Austin.

Floss any thoughts on when Sanders might commit? I'd be surprised if it went past Monday.

I read a not encouraging report on DGB from JC Shurburtt today. The guy is a SEC honk, so I'll take with a grain of salt. That being said, distance was mentioned as a prominent factor. The staff has been "quietly confident" before and it's usually worked out in Texas' favor. See Hicks, Jordan.

Armstead is sounding iffy to make the Banquet. There could be an ACT scheduling conflict. It sounds like he'll still visit, but he the official visit date might have to be moved.

I finally got around to watching Javonte Magee's senior film, my goodness the kid is a beast. I think he can definitely play DE at Texas. Could end up being a 5 star in the final rankings.

Texas not offering WR Marcus Johnson right away knowing he could've been had is a good indication the UT staff feels comfortable about where they stand with DGB. I like Texas' chances more than most and believe they'll get serious consideration from the Beckhams. Hard to eliminate a school like UT simply because of distance.

I keep waiting on Armstead to make some sort of statement that he wants to stay on the West Coast where his family can see him play, but the UT staff will make it hard for him to not visit Austin. They still offer him the best combo of football and basketball.

Magee's senior film has been talked about a lot this week. I know it sounds petty of me because Edwards may not even visit UT in the end, but I do covet Magee more. Texas' defensive line play, Austin being the closest campus to his mother and the relationship he's developed with Akina should go a long way. It's just hard to get a read on the kid. I worry about Baylor more than A&M.

Aledo is probably the best team in 4A Division II, and it's not really close. What makes your head spin is that Lake Travis blew their doors off. In 4A it's Lake Travis, Aledo and everybody else.

Great prospect, but one of those that could easily go bust which you wouldn't expect from a top 3 overall national recruit.

Doesn't shock me at all. Lots of people wonder why he's so highly ranked. I don't agree that he's a "once in a decade" type or understand why some think he's so special, but then again I'm not a professional scout. **OL Donald Hawkins did cancel his official visit to Florida this weekend but instead showed up for Auburn/Alabama. It was considered an unofficial visit and Auburn doesn't appear to be a threat to Texas or Oklahoma State.

Some quotes from OL Andrus Peat after his official visit to Nebraska:

"It was great," Peat said. "I mean I was really impressed by everything. I got in on Thursday night and I left on Saturday afternoon. I'd say it was a good trip."

"It was really cool," Peat said. "I saw him over the summer, but I still hadn't seen him in a long time. It was good to catch up. It was fun. I know (high school teammate, Avery Moss) was excited to see Todd too. It was cool to have Avery there too. He and I experienced Nebraska for the first time together."

"I just really wanted to look at the school and see the atmosphere at Nebraska," Peat said. "I was really impressed by that. The fans are great. The whole atmosphere and energy there was great. It was really impressive at the beginning of the game - it was really loud. I was coming out of the tunnel before the game with some other recruits and it was crazy how so many people knew my name. It just shows that the fan support is great there."

"I'd never experienced a game like that. It's a whole different atmosphere there than any other school I've been to. That was pretty crazy."

"It was real cool," he said. "He showed me around the campus a little bit and I got a chance to meet a lot of the players - it was really cool to spend time with Todd."

"Coach Pelini, I really liked him," Peat said. "He's really straight forward with everything. He basically just told me all the facts about Nebraska and the O-line situation, how I can help. He didn't put any pressure on me or anything. It was just the facts, which I liked."

"It's great just the way they pound the ball," he said. "They do a lot of different stuff. They run some spread stuff, some pro-style stuff too, like with their pass blocking. It's just a lot of variety that could show my skill set."

"After this trip, I feel really good about Nebraska and comfortable - I could see myself playing there," Peat said. "I took my visit to Stanford two weeks ago so I'm still considering them. I'm thinking about visiting Florida State and USC. I'm still kind of considering Texas, so those would be my main five schools. I really don't have any time set [for a decision], it's just whenever I know."

Things can obviously change over the course of three months, but Thomas likes UT so much right now that he's not ruling out a Junior Day commitment in February. Surprisingly he has LSU listed as "fourth or fifth" at the moment.

**ATH Corey Coleman of Richardson Pearce hasn't heard from Texas since Darrell Wyatt told him to expect an offer a few weeks ago. There's no mention that he's out of the running to eventually receive an offer, but things have slowed down a lot.

I'd kill for some junior film on Josh Thomas. I recorded a Evangel game earlier this year, but I never got around to watching it. My concern with him is weight. At 320 + as a junior you wonder how well he moves. Texas shouldn't be looking for awhile. If Thomas an OT, take him. Return the favor on Ishmael Wilson, if LSU is going to go in our backyard and get one, we should do the same. Yes I know Wilson is a LA native.

It struck me this morning. LSU is position to win a 3rd national championship in 8 years, winning with a team consisting of almost all LA players. I hope Texas takes notice and tries to do more in LA, especially around Shreveport.

I'd be surprised if Texas got involved with Coleman again if they Sanders all but locked up.

Also a reminder, JUCOs don't count toward the 25 player per recruiting class rule. So Texas could potentially have 25+ (27 most likely) new players for next season.
