That's the main reason why, but I know he didn't want to venture too far away from home and OU doesn't exactly have a favorable depth chart. Once Trevor Knight committed to OU a few weeks ago, it was clear that they had lost the Kiel sweepstakes. Notre Dame must feel like shit today.

TE Dominique Jones is another guy to keep an eye on when it comes to potential transfers.

I don't know if you guys remember this discussion from back in June, but Hook 'Em 24/7 is reporting today that TE Dominique Jones is a major grade risk right now and UT may end up losing him. He hasn't been with the team for summer workouts. WR Malcolm Williams is a name people are keeping an eye on as well as he also has not been around.

I saw that earlier today Floss. We do need attrition at TE, but I would rather see Graham or Matthews go. Dominique Jones is Texas' best blocking TE, an integral part of Harsin's offense. The academic staff is working very hard to get Jones eligible, let's hope they pull off a minor miracle.

Malcolm Williams has had some very serious personal problems. I can't elaborate, but I would ask everybody to be sensitive about Williams' situation. You would expect and deserve the same if you were in his shoes. I know it sounds strange coming from me, but there are much bigger things than football.

In good news, the Texas players at media day were adamant that Blaine Irby is healthy. Blaine contributing at any level would be a HUGE emotional lift for team. When healthy, Irby and Grant are two of the better TEs in the Big 12.

Obioha is legit. That's a big pick up.

I think A&M splits between Santos and Devall. Landing Santos, but Devall slipping to Bama. If they get both, that's arguably the top linebacker class in the nation.

With Obioha committing, Tomme Mark probably doesn't see an offer anytime soon. If they can somehow land Santos and Devall and maybe 1 more DB than they should be done with this class for now, still leaving a couple spots open for "best available type" players depending on how we perform on the field this season.

Good pull Floss. The Hook Em 247 guys seem to think that Texas has done everything on their end to put themselves in a good position with Peat. The official visit will be huge. Peat mentioned visiting Texas again when the 2012 commits are in town. I think the Football Banquet in December would be a good official visit weekend because all of the commits have historically attended. Texas could have some real momentum with Peat if he makes an official visit in November / December and then spends a week in January 2012 with 10 Texas commits at the UA All American Game.

Kudos to the Texas coaches for killing it with the OOS unofficial visits. Every blue chip OOS recruit has left Austin gushing about Texas. Whatever they're doing it's working. Hopefully, we'll see results soon.

Tenpenny will probably be the most heavily recruited running back in the 2013 class. I think Texas will make a play for The Dime, but it'll be interesting to watch how patient the coaches are in their recruitment of Tenpenny. If Texas can lock up James White and Dontre Wilson early, I think they'll probably go that route rather than waiting on Tenpenny.

Keith Ford is an interesting back. He's listed at 5'11'' 195 and I believe he runs in the 4.6 range. I hate to admit it, but Aggie has done a good job evaluating running backs recently. An offer this early tells me that Aggie thinks Ford can play. It's interesting that Aggie offered Ford, but hasn't offered James White yet.

I was a Cy Fair ISD graduate, it's amazing how much talent is coming out of that area. The District is already the third largest in the state and growing. Northwest Houston / Cypress looks like an emerging talent hot bed. Cy Falls is loaded with 2013 Division 1 recruits.

Just an update that DB Colin Blake of San Antonio Brandeis hasn't heard much from UT in a while, but he says he may get to Austin before the end of the summer to visit campus and speak with the coaching staff in person. He's currently planning two official visits to OU and Florida State and will make decisions on the other three at a later time. Here are some quotes from him:

“A few weeks ago I would have thought they were going to offer me in the coming weeks but they still haven’t,” Blake said. “I don’t know if they’re still talking to other DBs but I have no clue with Texas.”

“It’s nothing where if they offer I’d commit right away, but that’s a school I grew up watching,” Blake said. “They played my favorite game ever to watch - the 2006 Rose Bowl game. I’ll never forget that game. I don’t know, I’ve always liked Texas and one of my good friends goes there. Mykkele Thompson, I became friends with him this past year. It would be a real cool offer and a blessing to have because it’s Texas, but I’d definitely still think about the other schools. I’m not some guy who just changes his mind like that.”

Good stuff Floss. I'm a little surprised the Beckhams and Mack have dinner stuff is just coming out now and from a columnist in St. Louis. The Beckhams really do have a gag order in place with recruiting sites.

I hope Blake makes it down for an unofficial before the season. Blake has long been a BFLT favorite. Floss do you think Blake's offer is contingent upon what Geno Smith decides, or what Landon Collins decides? I don't like Blake making officials to OU and FSU. He could pull the trigger on either visit. I think the 2012 class needs a tall corner to round it out.

I don't think so since Smith is scheduled to commit before his high school season begins in August. Alabama or Auburn there. Surely Akina knows that one is over outside of a major break.

Not only is it difficult to figure out what the staff is thinking for that last DB spot because there are so many good prospects to target, but I wonder if they're struggling with deciding to offer a CB or S type. They've yet to offer a true safety in this class and both Echols and Thomas are under six feet. Blake seems to fill that void perfectly, but the staff is obviously waiting to make an offer to any of these guys for a reason (or a couple of reasons).

It's pretty clear Blake is waiting on that UT offer despite not publicly stating it, so maybe he'll get it if he visits Austin before the season starts. Brandeis starts their two-a-days next week so he'll need to fit it in before then unless he can manage a weekend trip. Heavy hitters are going to come after him as his stock will only go higher, so hopefully UT makes a move during the first few weeks of the season (if not sooner) should Blake be their guy.

*For those of you already planning your weekends around football games, WR Dorial Green-Beckham and his Hillcrest team will be playing their season opener on Saturday, August 27th on ESPN. I don't have a time for that yet but just a heads up.

*Good news on WR Cayleb Jones. That finger he hurt in Orlando a few weeks ago will not require surgery and there isn't any ligament damage. He doesn't expect to be at 100% for a while, but he will be on the field when Austin High starts their two-a-days next week.

This is from Orange Bloods regarding the AD meeting today if anyone is interested

Word from the Big 12 athletic directors' meeting is that DeLoss Dodds did a lot of the talking and helped to allay some of the fears of the rest of the league.

The ADs met out at the DFW airport and met pretty much all day. But the meeting is over now.

Here are the two big developments from the meeting.

--There will be no high school football games on the Longhorn Network. Not for the immediate future. And maybe not ever. I was told there is "a moratorium" on such games on LHN - even if the NCAA comes back and says it's OK.

For the short term, having no high school games on the LHN is meant to keep the peace in the Big 12. That's what a top source told me.

--Also, Texas laid out how it plans to share some revenue through appearance fees if LHN is to get more than one football game - a conference game - on the air.

Basically, Texas has up to 6 appearances available each season on ABC. And every game that appears on the LHN would count as one of those appearances on ABC. So if Texas were to get two games on LHN, it would have only four appearances available on ABC.

So it's possible that more than two games could appear on LHN going forward, and there might even be a second game this season. But it would also require approval from the other Big 12 school involved. And that could shrink the pool of schools willing to appear on LHN to those who: A) struggle with visibility, and/or B) revenue.

But the sources I talked to said the meeting was productive and that there appears to be no threat at the moment of schools still threatening to bust up the Big 12 over LHN - i.e., a school like Texas A&M bolting for the SEC.

Stay tuned.

Sorry, don't really wanna spam the board with Auburn stuff, especially because I still don't think Auburn is a major player for DGB. It's early in the process, though, so who knows

First, Zeke Pike, Auburn's big time QB commit and Dorial are friends. Zeke came into town at the same time so they could see each other. He later tweeted that "I think we got a great shot at my boy, #DGB"

Kiehl Frazier, Auburn's big QB commit from last year, also got to know DGB and they exchanged info.

Welcome to the thread.

I agree that Mizzou just feels like the team to beat. It wouldn't surprise me in the least if he ended up there since Green-Beckham appears to be a family-oriented kid who prefers to stay close to home. He'll have a clear path to the pros wherever he attends school outside of a major injury.

at this point i would consider DGB picking mizzou a big win just to keep him out of norman. the guy is a freak, but obviously receiver is not the biggest need. although after watching last year we obviously are of need of playmakers the caliber of DGB and agholor.

speaking on the front of biggest needs, was glad to see the 'cosm predicts we lead for peat. hard to not envision him getting on the field his freshman year with his talent and the need.

still puzzled by lack of news on us pursuing rush DE.

thanks for all the updates floss, have been reading this post for quite a while and you have some great info.

DGB notes, Hook'Em247-

TEXAS

In regards to his trip to Austin, Green-Beckham said, “there’s going to be great people pretty much everywhere I go, but I like the facilities, I liked the coaches, I try to get real close with the coaches, the players, just to see what it’s like, to see what I’ll be comfortable with because those people I’ll be around for three to four years when I get there. I like to check out the things like that to see how the players and coaches are going to treat me before I make a decision.”

AUBURN

“There’s a lot that I figured out about Auburn,” he said. “I liked the people around there, I liked the town, everything. But I’ll have to see what other choices will be. But I liked it down there, it’s real nice down there. The players are real cool, the coaches are good and pumped so I liked it down there.”

Quick update on 2013 OL Josh Thomas of Shreveport Evangel Christian. He recently got back from an LSU camp and he was not offered (he will be eventually). Good thing is he mentioned Texas quite a few times in this particular article. Here are some quotes of interest:

"I was a little disappointed that I didn't get it (the offer) on the spot but I understand the process that they have go through to pick who comes to the school or not," Thomas said. "I realized that (offensive) coach (Greg Studrawa) Stud has to talk to (head) coach (Les) Miles and really discuss it heavily and then give the offer. That was a good to know and I took that to heart."

"It (the LSU camp) was different than anything we normally do or at Texas (camp)," Thomas said. "They focused more on run blocking because they like to run the ball more. We're just getting used to running the ball more at Evangel so I wasn't really used to it.

"I'm going to try and it would be easier to make an LSU game rather than a Texas game," Thomas said. "I'll try to make one of the LSU games."

As I said previously, a recruit always remembers his first offer. If Texas is going to get recruits out of Louisiana, the coaches better get on them early. Shreveport seems to be Texas' focal point in Louisiana right now.

I know he likes LSU, but I'm just not sure how much at this point. He's already been to campus a few times for camps and games. I wonder if that's more of a reflection of geography rather than an actual love for Baton Rouge. Anyway, he'll be a prospect that will be interesting to watch come February.

That picture is straight gangsta. Aggie should have offered Antwuan Davis when he attended their summer camp. In my opinion, Davis will be the top corner in the state next year. Many believe Davis will be a top 50 - 100 player nationally. Davis has posted sub 10.4 100 times, scary fast.

If Texas were able to get Josh Thomas, it would give the coaches the freedom to try A'Shawn Robinson on both sides of the football. The same could be said of Raulerson.

I think Geno Smith committing elsewhere, which he will likely will do, and Colin Blake making an unofficial visit before the season could be the catalyst for Blake to finally receive a Texas offer.

I do believe that the staff wants to evaluate a handful of DBs through the first few weeks of the season, but it's an interesting thought that Blake not visiting campus yet could be a big factor in why he hasn't received an offer. Brown rarely ever offers anyone without a sit-down in his office first and surely Blake knows that. Could be the reason he's been showing some initiative lately to get to campus before his high school season starts.

Coleman is definitely being looked at and I know for a fact that UT has called his coach to inquire. I think UT still needs to take a TE and a true safety in this class if they can. TE Dominic Ramacher of Denton Guyer is one I'd like to see UT pursue. Great Boise State type prospect. He'd do a lot of dirty work for you like Bergeron. For those of you who haven't seen him:

Floss does Colin Blake fit your bill as a true safety? He'd work for me. I can't think of any in state pure safeties that are interested in Texas and uncommitted.

Coleman is my take as an ATH. Yes over Sanders.

I'd be OK taking Ramacher with the understanding that he'll do the dirty work while Ricky Seals - Jones is catching touchdown passes. I think I'll support taking another H-back more when I see a H-back actually utilized in Texas offense.

Chet Moss getting moved permanently to fullback is fascinating to me. The 247 guys believe position changes are sometimes used to gently nudge players out of the program. I wonder if the coaches are trying to nudge Moss out the door? My understanding is that Moss is a Muschamp guy, he might not fit what Manny is looking to do on defense. What makes it so interesting is Moss' excellent performance in the Spring Game.

Andrus Peat, one of the country's top offensive linemen for the 2012 class, has cut nearly two-thirds of the schools that have offered him a scholarship and now has a lucky top 13, the 6-foot-7, 280-pound tackle told Sporting News this weekend.

Peat, a consensus five-star prospect, is out of Corona Del Sol High School in Tempe, Ariz. — Pac-12 country — but his final list isn’t exactly full of Pac-12 schools.

Alabama, Arkansas, Auburn, Florida, Florida State, Miami, Michigan, Nebraska, Notre Dame, Oregon, Stanford, Texas and USC made the cut. Only three — Oregon, Stanford and USC — are Pac-12 schools. His brother, Todd Peat, signed with Nebraska in February.

“I don’t have any leaders,” Andrus Peat told Sporting News. “Those are in no particular order.”

I see it coming down to us and Nebraska

general consensus i'm seeing seems to be nebraska, texas and fsu lead. i wouldn't rule out any of the other schools either. i expect peat will take some visits and doesn't want to burn bridges by playing his hand early which is smart way to play it.

man i hope we get peat, the idea of him on field as freshman block for brown and gray sounds pretty damn good. i miss the old power football days.

You can tell Ash took those summer workouts seriously. Physically, he looks like he's been in a college system for a while now. I don't think it means much, but interesting that he took all the reps with the 1s this morning.

Also, OL Garrett Greenlea may have to redshirt after all. He reported to camp with mono. No word on how long his recovery time will be.

I like Tariq coming back as a walk on. If Allen can earn an scholarship, more power to him. There are some concerns about Allen being able to play in space, but if Allen can contribute on special teams and doesn't occupy a scholarship that's a bargain for Texas.

Dalton Santos to Tennessee. bummer
Just found out today from a co-worker. I've been so busy watching Texans training camp that I'd kinda lost track of him. Sorry you guys missed out on him.

Surprising but not overly surprising. I knew that the bright lights of the SEC had a shot at luring him away but I thought it would be Bama if any. After his mom told me that he was leaning towards staying home I thought for sure he would come back and go to A&M.

Details starting to surface on Scott. Looks like his car was getting repossessed from his apartment by a woman and he stopped her before she was able to leave the complex. Scott managed to open the door and pull her out and was accused of assault because of it. Can't touch a woman like that, so we'll see if his punishment is more harsh since this whole thing involved a female.

from gatorsports.com posted 8/9

http://recruiting.blogs.gatorsports.com/11409/more-five-stars-for-florida/?pa=2&tc=pg

4. OT Andrus Peat (6-7, 290) Tempe, Ariz. — This rangy left tackle is long and athletic, basically looking like a prototype, and has won praise for his technique and disposition. Florida made his most recent cut-down to 13 teams, but getting Peat to Gainesville has been problematic so far. He said he wanted to visit in July but didn’t make it. Instead, he has raved about visits to Texas and Florida State.

8. WR Nelson Agholor (6-2, 180) Tampa, Fla. — Agholor is a remarkable athlete who can play multiple positions, but the Gators are recruiting him as a wide receiver. Still a bit raw, Agholor shows excellent speed, hands and instincts with the ball. He is close to narrowing his list to a top eight, and it would be surprising if Florida was not on it. It’s hard to know what Agholor is thinking, because he doesn’t believe in making his recruitment public. But his coach says Agholor’s interest in Florida is high, and he has already been on campus twice this year. If distance is a factor, Florida could be in great shape, as many of Agholor’s favorite schools (such as Texas and Southern Cal) are a lot farther away. Another factor for Agholor could be his close friendship with UF safety commit Marcus Maye, who has echoed the sentiment that Agholor is seriously considering the Gators.

I'm indifferent at this point because I have more questions than anything. I'm most interested right now to see how the Ags plan on paying the Big XII exit fees or how they'll deal with a possible breach of contract on the TV deal. I'm not sure what their athletic department's current financial situation looks like as they were something like $16 million in the red last summer.

From UT's side of things, I can't help but wonder if Dodds has something up his sleeve or has secretly hoped something like this would eventually happen because UT would likely be approached with a handful of great possibilities. It's interesting to me that he always mentions Notre Dame. I'm just not a fan of a future Big 9 + Houston. That conference couldn't survive despite what that moron Beebe says.

Weird deal, man. I don't know if y'all remember that he was an early favorite at DB to get an offer before Akina left for Arizona. McNeil was the only DB in attendance at the first Junior Day right after Gray left for the Tennessee Titans. Texas didn't offer him that day and then all communication just stopped after that (even though Akina returned quickly). I assume there is a non-football issue there that the staff didn't want to deal with. It's a shame because UT needs a safety in 2012 and he's a badass.

I have a hard time believing that anyone other than Gilbert will trot out there against Rice because I've gotten so used to Brown's emphasis on experience (sometimes not playing the better player because of age), but this Friday's scrimmage should tell a story. The coaches are going to have to start giving the majority of the reps to two guys and not four as the season gets closer. I think Ash is at least #2 right now.

Most of us have been waiting on this to happen as he's been a popular name when talking about potential transfers, so we'll see if anything comes of it. I don't see him ever getting significant time at UT (especially if Ash is coming along as well as some say).

is it sounding like the offense should be less predictable, now that Greg Davis is gone?

I like what I hear of Diaz though, sounds like he has some good stuff going for the defense.

The difference will be night and day if Harsin brings half of what he did at Boise State.

Completely doable. One of his teammates committed to Arizona.

IMO, the package is off.

I have mixed feelings about Magee. Namely, I have reservations about Sam Houston High School. School administrators, staff and faculty did Quincy Russell a great disservice. It's a valid question to ask if they their student athletes college eligible.

I think Magee is a swing guy that grows into a DT. Scipio's pro scout beliefs Boyette switches to offense at some point, so there might be room for another DT. Magee is definitely the best remaining DE / DT in the state. If Magee is serious he should visit Texas and iron things out with the staff.

Sources indicate that billfromlaketravis is preparing to make his first spurstalk post outside of this thread in the coming week. After 328 posts in the same thread he reportedly has decided its time to show his tremendous versatility and depth as a human being. He is debating reviewing the most recent movie he watched (Hook Em' Horns...a documentary about the UT Longhorns), detailing his most recent trip (a tour of the Texas Longhorns weight room) or the most recent book he read (Mack Brown: The Early Years).

Meanwhile, some rumors are swirling that he is actually an alternate account of TFloss32 created so that he could talk to himself. But most consider that too pathetic to even imagine.

sounds like the defense is coming together and could be quite a force

i'm actually quite surprised he's so highly ranked as he doesn't have the explosiveness you'd expect for such a highly ranked national recruit. i don't see magee at anything but a DT after a couple years in college. dude certainly looks powerful though and has a frame for piledriving people.

I didn't even know thats what they were referring to. That just makes things worse because its even stupider than I fucking imagined. Now I'm worried that a lot of them won't qualify academically, and then of course the viability of suicide will be considered because they didn't make TexasGang.
