I highly doubt Conner Brewer was the architect behind, "TexasGang or die". That saying was undoubtedly created by a minority, not a paradise valley honky who went to Horizon High School.

Update on practice schedule...there is no longer a scrimmage scheduled for this Thursday. Sounds like it will be more of laid back session where the players will work within their positional groups and possibly simulate certain game situations as a team towards the end.

i'm guessing we didn't want wood AND case to both transfer - and putting ash #2 may have sealed that.

i hope early reports are accurate that we plan to get ash on the field immediately in some packages.

that said he is still firm to georgia. but could get interesting if they fire richt as he is obviously on the hot seat.

Interesting. I hope Richt doesn't get fired because I'm a great admirer of his and like the Georgia football program. Still, Theus would be a huge get if anything like that went down. I just wonder if it would hurt our chances with Peat.

Landon Collins sorting through final five
UA All-American says Bama and LSU are top two, but he still talks about Texas offer

Newberg By Jamie Newberg
ESPN Recruiting

Rain couldn't slow down Under Armour All-American Landon Collins on the field as he led Geismar (La.) Dutchtown to a 32-8 win over rival Lutcher on Friday. Off it, though, it kept the four-star safety grounded.

"It was a lot of fun because we had all that rain," said Collins, who is No. 19 in the ESPNU 150. "It rained for three or four straight days. I rushed the ball seven times for 94 yards and two touchdowns. I had five or six tackles and an interception. I am playing both ways this season and I love it. People can't believe that I don't get tired out there. But getting the chance to play on both sides of the ball was extra motivation for me this offseason. Now I take a pounding playing running back but I also give it right back."

After the game, though, he stayed home because of the weather instead of hitting the road for an unofficial visit.

"I wanted to go to the LSU game but I watched them on TV," he said. "I saw Alabama and Florida. I watched the Miami-Maryland game. Auburn was supposed to lose that game to Utah State but they came back. I love watching ball. I was born into it. My dad and uncle played, and my mom and stepmom are both athletes. I love football."

Collins, who has offers from most of the nation's top programs, has things narrowed down to five schools: LSU, Alabama, Florida, Texas and Tennessee.

"It is pretty much down to those five but someone could end up sneaking in," Collins said. "I spoke to Cal for a while the other day, and they were telling me how they are losing four defensive backs. I can step right in there and play."

While playing time is important to Collins, he's not afraid of competition. If he has to earn the job, he's prepared to do just that.

"I am determined that when I get to college I will work my butt off," Collins said. "I will earn my playing time. The trust in the coaches is important, too. I have to believe in them. And I have to feel like home. Academics is a must because I have to leave with a degree."

While he could have had his choice of schools, Texas offering him a scholarship seems to have made a big impression.

"I have to admit that I am still shocked by that," Collins said. "First, I can't believe that Texas offered me. But they have come out to watch me practice. They want me. They are recruiting me. They have all that talent in that state and they want me. I have been out there twice, and Texas is a big place. We have gotten lost twice."

While he has not set up an official visit to Texas, Collins said he has set up official visits to LSU (Oct. 8) and Alabama (Nov. 4).

"Those two are my top two right now," Collins said. "I am trying to reach the Florida coaches to set up that visit. Maybe I will go for the FSU game. I haven't set up a Tennessee visit and I need to look at the Texas schedule."

Collins plans to announce his decision during the Under Armour All-America Game in January on ESPN.

:( What happened to tfloss and this topic

I'm here, bud. I've been out of town since last Tuesday and just got back in last night. I've had zero Internet service so I'm catching up on everything myself. I'm going through the thread to see what I should post and what I shouldn't, but I may do a comprehensive review to make sure we're all on the same page. Recruiting has really heated up since the fall evaluation period began last Thursday on September 1st. Hope everyone has been doing well.

Heard the Rice game was pretty mediocre and Gilbert looked a tad better, but not much. The next two games are going to be huge for his future at UT. BYU could give him fits if they go zone coverage. From what I've read, sounds like the classes of 2010 and 2011 are going to get more and more playing time as the year goes on. The young bucks are simply more talented than the upperclassmen and playing 18 true freshmen against Rice speaks volumes. Like Manny Diaz has said, you're always preparing for next year's team.

Anyway, I'll continue to read and see what I can find.

A good portion of this will be old news, but I decided to just post everything that's happened since I left town to make sure we're all on the same page. Recruiting has heated up big time so there are lots of details to cover. We're finally through that hellacious summer and info will be constant from this point on. Here's to hoping UT has a little more fire against BYU on Saturday than they did against Rice...:toast

**It's official that QB Connor Wood has left the team and transferred to Colorado. News came down last week and it's been an inevitable storyline for quite some time. After being passed up by freshman QB David Ash (who already received some time against Rice), the writing on the wall was even more visible. Good luck to Wood in the Pac-12.

**DB Justin Thomas of West Orange-Stark committed to Utah on Thursday, August 25th despite wanting to follow in his cousin's footsteps and play for the Longhorns. Turns out there was a bit of drama with JT in recent weeks as it was discovered that he lied about his age and is now too old to play high school sports according to UIL rules. He'll turn 20 this September. He was a longshot to get offered by UT with other potential DBs deemed priorities ahead of him on the recruiting board, but this has likely sealed his fate that he'll never see Austin. **Another DB is off the board now as DB Colin Blake of San Antonio Brandeis committed to Texas A&M after his official visit to College Station this weekend for the SMU game. I don't think it's a secret that he did favor UT above others, but he was only willing to wait so long before committing elsewhere. I think the Horns would still have a shot if they extended an offer at some point this season, but Blake's father is very much behind his A&M commitment and Blake himself is a fan of the SEC move.

Just a brief rundown on who Texas is looking at for that one (or two) remaining DB spots:

ATH, Nelson Agholor, Berkeley Prep (Tampa, FL)
ATH, Corey Coleman, Richardson Pearce **committed to Baylor
ATH, Kendall Sanders, Athens
DB, Colin Blake, San Antonio Brandeis **committed to Texas A&M
DB, Landon Collins, Dutchtown (Geismar, LA)

**One of the first calls the staff made after the opening of the fall evalution period on September 1st was by Darrell Wyatt to ATH Corey Coleman of Richardson Pearce. It's my opinion that Coleman has the highest chance of being the next UT offer. Here's a quote from him:

“I would be interested (in Texas if they offered), but I don’t know yet,” he said.

I also think he would switch his commitment with a UT offer. He's friends with several 2012 UT verbals, notably WR Cayleb Jones, and has participated in several camps and combines throughout the summer with those guys. If Will Muschamp hadn't left for Florida, he's probably already in the mix.

**It looks like the UT staff is still in touch with JUCO DE Denico Autry of East Mississippi CC. Bo Davis called his coach yesterday morning to check in. Just a reminder that Davis has recruited this school multiple times in the past when working for Alabama and has a good relationship with their coach. I hope UT gives this one a shot as DE Torshiro Davis of Shreveport Woodlawn looks like a longshot and the Longhorns still need a speed rusher in this 2012 class. Some quotes from Autry should surface this weekend. If he does end up taking an official visit to Austin, it would likely be in December after the JUCO season comes to an end.

**Not much going on with OL Andrus Peat of Tempe, AZ. He recently approached his folks about taking an official visit to UT and it's essentially a certainty that he will make a return trip to Austin outside of an early commitment to another school. Peat's relationship with Stacy Searels, early playing time, offensive scheme and academics are a few factors that give UT a great shot. An October 6th-8th official visit to Nebraska is the only one he has set in stone right now as that's Ohio State weekend in Lincoln. It's going to be tough for any school not named Nebraska to pull Peat away from his older brother. Florida State is the other school being mentioned as getting a definite visit at this time. Other than his official to Nebraska, it looks like the remaining visits will have to wait until the end of his high school season. He will be playing in the 2012 Under Armour All-American Game in January and that's great news for the Longhorns if he's uncommitted at that time. Lots of UT commitments will be there and in his ear about his future. I'll leave you with some quotes from Peat's father. Even though the last quote sounds promising, I'm not sure his parents are crazy about the idea of their boys attending separate schools.

"One thing I've learned in all my years of playing, you have to be a good fit on certain offenses and defenses," Mr. Peat said. "I have tried to evaluate my boys' skill sets, see what they need to improve on and where they'll fit."

"I think it's going to be, in the end, with whatever university makes the case in in-home visits that Andrus can just be part of the university," Mr. Peat said. "That's what made the difference with Todd, that's what will make the difference with Andrus. I want boys to go to the place with best opportunity to reach their goals and get a great education."

"I'm confident he'll figure that out and we'll support him 100 percent wherever he goes. His brother has said the same thing, that he'll support Andrus wherever he goes."

**I don't trust that five-star DB Landon Collins of Geismar, LA is going anywhere other than the SEC, but he still says he wants to make an official visit to Austin. He's currently trying to set up an official to Florida and he's already has two others to LSU (November 25th vs. Arkansas) and Alabama (November 5th vs. LSU) scheduled. Like Peat, he will also play in the 2012 Under Armour All-American Game and wants to make his commitment in Orlando because the game falls on his birthday. Here are some recent quotes from him about UT:

"I'm trying to pick a good game for Texas (for an official visit)," Collins said.

"I just know they (Texas) have a chance at the BCS every year. Plus they have great acadmics over there," Collins said. "They have one of the top academic setups for their players. And their classes I want to major in, broadcast, are top notch. They've got the ESPN center and things like that that I could learn from."

"It's not hard at all (to pull him away from LSU). I just have to have trust in the coaches, like the coaches," Collins said. "If they can make it feel like home, do that and you have a great chance of getting me. My parents and the people close to me have always told me, 'Wherever you go, we'll follow you.'"

**The following is a list of unofficial visitors who made a trip to Austin for last weekend's match-up with Rice:

Some more notes on the 2013 class:

**Turns out WR Jake Oliver of Dallas Jesuit has some connections to Texas that weren't previously known about. Oliver's father has known Darrell Wyatt for quite some time and they have a good relationship. Oliver's father also coached UT's strength and conditioning coach, Bennie Wylie, at Sam Houston State. Texas A&M is the clear favorite here with his father playing for the Aggies in the 80s, but Oliver is giving UT a fair shake and he will be offered come February if he's still uncommitted at that time. He's mentioned he grew up a fan of both UT and A&M.

**OL/DL Jake Raulerson of Celina attended UT's game against Rice and quickly made the drive to College Station for the Ags' game against SMU on Sunday. Raulerson loves him some UT but I think A&M could be a serious player in his recruitment with their move to the SEC and the fact that they may offer his brother who is also in the 2013 class (and won't be highly recruited). He had nothing but good things to say about his visit to Austin but seemed to enjoy the game in Aggieland more as things were "much louder." He is also a lock to be offered in February and may even be the first guy offered by the UT staff.

**DB Antwuan Davis of Bastrop also enjoyed his experience in Austin and mentioned he loved the opportunity to meet Manny Diaz after the game. Luckily for UT, Davis brought stud LB Paul Whitmill along with him. Whitmill has long been considered a lock for OU should they offer, but he did tell Davis after the game that he "really liked this place (Austin)." Davis currently has UT leading in his recruitment above A&M and TCU and will be offered in February. He's already received two hand-written letters from Duane Akina and Bryan Harsin.

**The QB race for 2013 may be a little more interesting than we thought. UT will be hosting two Top 10 prospects in Tyrone Swoopes and Chris Johnson this weekend. Another name in the mix is JT Barrett of Wichita Falls Rider. All three attended camps in Austin this summer and the staff will be doing their homework on each. While I don't agree with this opinion right now, Hook 'Em 24/7 thinks Barrett is the leader for that first QB offer in February. No matter what happens, UT is going to get a stud prospect for this class. I can see them taking a guy like Swoopes as their QB and then offering Barrett as an ATH type a la Orlando Thomas (but keeping him on the offensive side of the ball) while also giving him a shot at QB once he hits campus. Some film on Swoopes and Barrett:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7dNN_WZozQM

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vxuXjW7Vwbg

Barrett appears to be much quicker and the better passer, but it's hard to argue with Swoopes' ability as he's just nasty. Tough decisions to be made in a few months.

Some injury news that I hadn't seen posted...

**LB Demarco Cobbs is out indefinitely with a broken arm.

**LB Chet Moss is out a few weeks with unspecified back problems and looks to be headed for a redshirt season.

**2013 DT Isaiah Golden of Elysian Fields is out for two to three weeks after having knee surgery to repair a meniscus injury.

**2013 WR Dannon Cavil of San Antonio Madison looks to be out for at least two more weeks with a hamstring injury he suffered before the season began.

Just wanted to mention to keep an eye on OL John Theus' recruitment. Things will get interesting when/if Georgia's head coach, Mark Richt, is fired in the next few weeks. His seat will be really hot should Georgia lose to South Carolina this weekend (and they probably will). It's worth noting that Stacy Searels continues to speak with the Theus family every week. Even if Theus re-opens his recruitment, I think he'll look at schools like Florida that are closer to home first. A lot may also depend on what his older brother (who currently plays for Georgia) decides to do.

No problem at all, guys. I enjoyed catching up on everything yesterday and absolutely hate being out-of-the-loop. Sorry for the handful of repeat info. Kind of a non-update, but Duane Akina is still in touch with DT Javonte Magee of San Antonio Sam Houston and his UT offer remains on the table. He hasn't visited Austin since the first Junior Day this past February, but he does want to get back to campus this fall for an unofficial visit and possibly an official as well.

Some think he's actually better suited at OT instead of DT. I hate evaluating kids from SAISD because the teams in that district are pretty bad and guys like Magee don't have much competition. Dude caught an 80-yard TD last night when he lined up at TE.

Lake Travis is a machine. They destroyed Aledo last night.

I challenge anybody to find a better Texas High School Football program than Lake Travis. Yes they are a machine. I think LT ISD Stadium needs to be upgraded, but other than that, the program is in a great place.

The Magee news is interesting. Such a strange recruitment, but why would anyone expect normalcy from SA Sam Houston? I read today that Magee holds a written offer from Texas. If true, and I believe it is, Texas is serious about Magee.

Magee should get a look at OT, but I think he could contribute at Texas as a swing guy before growing into a full time DT. Getting Magee and/or Autry would certainly soften the blow of losing Torshiro Davis.

It sounds like Autry has done everything necessary on his end to be admitted into Texas. If Autry makes an official visit to Texas in December, I hope he's offered. The Texas staff should know something definitive on Torshiro by then.

Some recruiting notes courtesy of Hook 'Em 24/7:

**DT Quincy Russell of San Antonio Sam Houston from the 2011 class, who did not qualify for enrollment at UT this past summer, could be available for spring training in 2012. He's currently attending Trinity Valley CC trying to earn enough credits to get another shot with the Longhorns. He successfully completed several credits during the summer and will have enough for an associates degree should he have a great fall semester as well. Having to go the JUCO route temporarily has apparently given Russell a necessary wake-up call as he became a bit lazy towards the end of high school. UT says his scholarship remains on the table and Bo Davis has made it clear that he needs DT reinforcements. If Russell does somehow make it back, chances are high that DT Taylor Bible and/or DT De'Aires Cotton would transfer out of the program.

**Good news on the ATH Corey Coleman front. Darrell Wyatt was in Richardson this weekend to watch him in action. I still think he has the highest chance of being UT's next offer and things continue to move in that direction.

**It's not much, but some quotes from 2013 QB Tyrone Swoopes of Whitewright after his visit to Austin for the BYU game on Saturday:

“I like what they (Texas) do on offense. It’s kind of like what we do (at Whitewright),” he said.

“After the game, we got to go to the locker room and talk with the coaches," he said. "I talked with Coach (Bruce) Chambers, Coach (Bryan) Harsin and Coach (Major) Applewhite a little. Coach Harsin was asking me how I was doing, how our team was doing and stuff like that.”

**Read that 2013 ATH Desmond Mapps of Garland is actually the brother of current UT WR Marquise Goodwin. Unclear at this time if UT will go after Mapps, but it's not a secret that he loves the Longhorns.

**Texas tried to get 2013 stud RB Keith Ford of Cy-Ranch on campus this past weekend for the BYU game, but his schedule didn't allow him to make the trip. He has a tentative trip to Dallas planned for the Texas/OU game in October. I wasn't previously aware of this, but Ford has only lived in Texas for a few years after moving in from Jacksonville, FL. He may go back home if the big programs like Florida and FSU throw out offers.

More depth chart moves:

**DT Ashton Dorsey has been named a starter alongside DT Kheeston Randall. Dorsey was named the team's defensive MVP for the week after being suspended for the first game against Rice.

**DB Quandre Diggs has been named co-starter at right CB along with DB Adrian Philips. That basically tells me that Diggs will start at that spot and Phillips will continue to rotate at different positions throughout the secondary. I wish Phillips would return to safety (where he was last year) as there is a serious lack of playmakers/good pass coverage back there with Gideon/Brewster/Vaccaro. Interested to see if Manny Diaz and/or Duane Akina will ever address this.

"Everything there stood out," Robinson said. "It was really good. They had a really slow start, but they kept trying to get connected with each other and got it done."

"I watch specific positions. I was watching the defensive tackles," Robinson said. "I liked it. I feel like it's something I can fit in with."

"They're high on my list," Robinson said. "They're in the top five for sure. I'm not sure who else would be in there yet, but I know Texas would be up there."

"I prefer defense. I like blocking, but I feel I can take more anger out when I'm hitting them and not just blocking," Robinson said.

“We just have to get the quarterback thing settled. The running back, Malcolm (Brown), he did well and I like how the offense is moving faster this year. The defense is doing well too, but there are still some things that they can do better. Every team is like that right now, though.”

“We were really talking about the game most of the time. He asked about our (Dawson) season and how we were doing and we talked about me coming up there and playing. He asked if I was still working hard so I could come in and actually have the chance to play right away. I told him I’m keeping in shape,” he said.

He was in Austin this passed weekend, he will be in Stillwater this upcoming weekend to watch Ok State take on Tulsa and then he will be in College Station on the 24th to watch the Aggies and the Cowboys battle it out. Everyone is going to be trying to land this kid.

Good info there. Thanks.

Supposedly A&M is on him the most right now.

any news if it still on the table he is interested in other visits?

i liked the first part of the interview and referring to texas team as 'we', but still concerned about talk of other visits obviously. OT is priority #1 for this class at this point.

There's still talk that he's interested, but the coaches usually do a good job of preventing that from happening. Every year there's rumors of a couple of commitments wanting to take additional official visits, but it never happens. Hopefully that will be the case with Estelle as his family wants him close to home and attending UT.

Per Hook 'Em 24/7, a name to keep an eye on during the fall evaluation period is ATH Daje Johnson of Pflugerville Hendrickson. He committed to TCU back in March and was kind of a no-name at the time, but his stock rose a lot after he attended The Opening in Oregon during the summer. He was a combine monster as he recorded a 4.34 at that time.

Good news on Johnson is he's not at all closed off to the idea of playing DB (even though he currently plays RB) because he realizes that could be his ticket to the NFL (his father played DB in the pros). We can expect Duane Akina to attend one or two of his games in the upcoming weeks. He's currently in the process of scheduling official visits and it sounds like he'll be in Lubbock the weekend of October 8th-9th and will make a trip to Cal the weekend of December 2nd-4th. His visit to TCU is still up in the air. He's made it clear that he wants to hear from Texas and it sounded like he'd have a hard time saying "no" if he were offered.

Quick update on 2013 QB J.T. Barrett of Wichita Falls Rider...he's been invited to the last two UT home games but was unable to attend. Since he camped at UT in June, he's received two hand-written letters from Bryan Harsin letting him know that he's in the mix for that first QB offer in his class. Here are some recent quotes from him about his recruitment:

"I'd probably say my top five right now, from most to least, would probably be Texas, Oregon, Texas Tech, Oklahoma and I'd probably say Oklahoma St.," Barrett said.

"Texas, this summer I went to one of their camps and I worked out with coach Harsin. I've been there so I know what the coaches are like. I kind of have a feel for it.

Mario Edwards article --

http://espn.go.com/college-sports/recruiting/football/story/_/id/6972609/mario-edwards-committed-fsu-looking-around?utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter

"I let Florida State know that other teams are interested in me, and that I want to continue to look around," Edwards said. "But Florida State is still my team, my No. 1 team."

Edwards said Florida State coach Jimbo Fisher and assistant Lawrence Dawsey initially bristled when he told them of his plans. Now? They understand the situation, according to Edwards.

While OU ranks as the top option to unseat Florida State, Edwards said he'd also like to visit LSU, Southern California and perhaps Texas.
"I feel like I earned the right to look around," he said.

I think Edwards is a lot like OT John Theus in the sense that the staff never strays too far and keeps in constant contact. Great recruiting job if they can get him on campus before the end of the year. Texas would do themselves a favor in a lot of ways by beating OU.

Barrett is interesting. Two handwritten letters from Harsin shows sincere interest. I personally like Swoopes better, but Hook Em 247 is really championing Barrett. It's probably down to Swoopes and Barrett for the 2013 QB spot.

I think it's possible that Texas takes 2 QBs in 2013, but i think it's one or the other for Swoopes and Barrett. I don't think the Texas coaches could convince both Swoopes and Barrett to come in together in the same class.

Following up on this post from last Friday...Stacy Searels called Theus on Wednesday night of this week and there's already talk about an official visit to Texas and Mark Richt hasn't even lost his job yet. I think UT would like to get Theus to campus in December for the team's banquet weekend (which is traditionally a big recruiting weekend as well), but he may visit Austin earlier than that during the fall. He also wants to see Notre Dame at some point. Here are some quotes from Theus' father about his son's recruitment:

"But he told us that he did talk to coach Searels yesterday. He may possibly take an official to (Texas)."

"He really does have a good relationship with coach Searels. He feels like he could call on Thursday and want to come in on Saturday and they could make it happen," Mr. Theus said. "It's more than just a coach and a recruit. They're more like friends."

"I'll say this. Texas is in contact and he has been taking their calls. There are a lot of schools who he doesn't take calls from if that tells you anything."

"If something were to happen and if John would reconsider - and it probably doesn't even need to be a coaching change - there's no doubt Texas would be up there," Mr. Theus said.

The bold part is the most interesting to me and confirms that they're already looking around. There have been rumors in the past that Theus' brother, Nathan, wasn't all that happy at UGA, but there's nothing solid to back that up. If Theus does decide to decommit from Georgia, I think UT and Florida are the top two for his services.

**Don't be surprised if the staff decides to pursue a second QB in the 2012 class. Lots of talk about that lately with Garrett Gilbert losing his job.

**Another rumor out there that UT has finally gotten their foot in the door with 2013 LB Paul Whitmill of Bastrop after his visit to campus for the Rice game. He's been a big OU fan for a while but left Austin impressed. The Longhorns are thought to be a player at this point but still have work to do.

**UT is currently the favorite for both 2013 DB Antwuan Davis of Bastrop (who will surely help with the recruitment of Whitmill) and 2013 OL/DL A'Shawn Robinson of Forth Worth Arlington Heights.

Agreed...even though Wilson will be more of an all-purpose guy and won't tote the rock like Brown has been doing these past few games. Harsin will be giddy having that guy in his offense and I think UT locks him up rather quickly once offers go out. I think UT can eventually land Swoopes if they make him their QB priority (I'd be surprised if he wasn't) and the Horns haven't lost a head-to-head recruiting battle with TCU maybe ever. Raulerson could end up being the tough one out of those three since he loves the SEC and he's originally from Florida (there a few people with UF ties in his family). It's been rumored that he's visited so many different campuses over the past few months because he wants to have an answer for Texas once the first Junior Day rolls around in February. It'd be money if the 2013 class started off with a commitment from him, but it could end up being a tough recruitment depending on how UT finishes out the year.

Lots of people are saying what a brilliant move this was by the Gilberts. Garrett can now apply for a medical redshirt when it had already looked as if he'd lost his entire junior year by playing against Rice. He just went from having two years to play one (he still has his regular redshirt) to now having three years to play two. This whole scenario tells us he'll likely be transferring by the end of the semester. The rumor of taking an additional QB in the 2012 class looks a bit more legitimate now.

GOBR thinks Texas might be keeping their fingers crossed for another Vaccaro senior year growth spurt (Kenny had one as a senior). I agree, Kevin probably needs a few more inches to get a full scholarship offer from Texas. I like Vaccaro's film quite a bit. They know how to grow 'em out in Brownwood.

I feel like RSJ is a Texas lean. I think national powers, not TAMU will be threats for RSJ's signature.

Edwards is taking a lot of visits. FSU should be mildly concerned. Good to hear from Mario Sr. that his son will visit Texas. I have a gut feeling that the Edwards like free tickets to games and are solidly committed to FSU. A football fan would kill for the Edwards' upcoming lineup (OU - Missouri, OU- Texas, FSU - Miami). It wouldn't shock me to see Edwards at one of LSU's marquee home games.

The timing is convenient for the Gilberts, but I'd add that Garrett has had labrum surgery before. Once you injure it once, it's more likely to recur another injury. A medical redshirt would work out well for Gilbert. This tells me almost certainly that Gilbert will transfer to a Division 1 school. Clemson might be a good landing spot because of Gilbert's relationship with their OC Chad Morris (former Lake Travis head coach).

Turning out to be a "must win" situation for the Aggies this upcoming Saturday against Oklahoma State as far as their recruiting is concerned. They're also hoping to be officially accepted into the SEC by the end of the week. Here's a list of recruits that will be in College Station this weekend:

QB, Matt Davis, Klein Forest
RB, Trey Williams, Spring DeKaney
WR, Bralon Addison, Fort Bend Hightower
WR, Trent Momon, Hempstead
OL, Adrian Bellard, Brenham
DT, Damien Jacobs, East Mississippi CC <------ committed to Tennessee
DT, Aziz Shittu, Buhach (Atwater, CA)
DE/LB, Denzel Devall, Bastrop (Bastrop, LA)
LB, Jordan Richmond, Denton Ryan
DB, Otis Jacobs, Gulf Coast CC
DB, Kenneth Marshall, South Houston
ATH, Troy Green, Brenham
ATH, Kendall Sanders, Athens
-----------------------------------------------
QB, Cole Hunt, El Campo
WR, Jake Oliver, Dallas Jesuit
TE, Derrick Griffin, Rosenberg Terry
TE, Christian Morgan, Plano Prestonwood Christian
DT, Isaiah Golden, Elysian Fields
LB, Brett Wade, Kennedale
ATH, Chevoski Collins, Livingston

**The Ags' coaching staff has asked their current 2012 commitments to take unofficial visits this weekend rather than official visits because there will be a lot of other recruits making their first trip to College Station and the main focus will be on those guys instead (especially five-star DT Aziz Shittu out of California). Many other 2013 recruits are expected to attend but have no solidified plans.

You could add these to this list as well.

Great news.

He followed up this morning after talking to one of his sources who said Peat's current top three consists of Texas, USC and Florida State (no specific order). Interesting that Nebraska isn't in there, but I'm sure that will all change after he goes to Lincoln for the Ohio State game on October 8th. Peat will be on the Arizona State campus this weekend for the USC game.

I saw that. Interesting that Peat is going to be a guest of Arizona State for the USC game, but he's more interested in USC than Arizona State. In fact, I don't think ASU even made his top 10. Good luck with that Sun Devils.

It's scary how much Gerry thinks Andrus likes USC. This will be a battle. I'd like to see Richt get fired and Theus open up his recruitment for a little insurance.

From an Oklahoma colleague, Mario Edwards will almost certainly be at Missouri - OU game. Washington OT Zach Banner is expected to make it down. It's possible that DGB could also be at the game.

OU and TAMU losses would be nice this weekend for Texas recruiting purposes.

Here's a look at QB Del Barnes of defending 3A state champs Henderson out in East Texas. Hook 'Em 24/7 mentioned this guy last week as someone UT could call on for an additional QB spot in the 2012 class. He's gone unnoticed for the most part (which is hard to believe after looking at his film) but his recruitment could gain more steam if his team makes another deep playoff run. Henderson is currently ranked #2 in 3A.

Wanted to add that Barnes did grow up a fan of UT and Bryan Harsin has already called to request film. The kid hasn't attended any big camps throughout his high school career so that's a big reason for the lack of attention.

Barnes and Brewer would be a good mix. A raw, athletic quarterback project to go with a polished, drop back passer.

Floss is it just for or is Texas moving towards taking dual threat quarterbacks over pro style quarterbacks? The coaches are interested in Barnes for the 2012 class, and are targeting Swoopes and Barrett for the 2013 class. I think a change has taken place.

the good news is that it sounds like pretty much a lock to get a visit (even if richt doesn't get fired). the relationship with searels can't be underestimated.

nice to have theus as insurance as BFLT mentions. by all indications Peat will go down to the wire and also seems to love FSU, and by Gerry's indications seems to be pretty into USC as well. i'm shocked by news that he doesn't think NU is in top 3? i can't imagine them not being leader, but who knows.

It sure seems that way but it also may be coincidence since three of the top four QB prospects in Texas for 2013 (Kohl Stewart is pro-style) are dual-threat guys (Swoopes, Johnson and Barrett). I think Harsin just loves having a mobile QB and we've seen how much more creative his offense can be with a quick-footed signal caller. Things opened up so much for UT once Gilbert was pulled and you insert guys like McCoy and Ash who can improvise when necessary.

ESPN Insider on Peat -- http://insider.espn.go.com/colleges/...l-schools-wait (http://insider.espn.go.com/colleges/texas/football/recruiting/story/_/id/6968029/peat-making-potential-schools-wait)

"He certainly enjoyed all the trips, but he enjoyed Texas in a very big way," Peat Sr. said. "He felt very comfortable with the coaches, happy with everything he saw. He felt there was a lot of sincere interest in him from Texas."

Peat Sr. doesn't use the word "sincere" loosely. He and his wife Jana have stressed to Andrus to pay close attention to the prospective programs, because, as they see it, it's a life-changing decision that you only get to make once.

"Todd called me from Nebraska a few weeks ago and said, 'Dad, I love Bo Pelini and I would do anything for him,' " Peat Sr. said. "That went a long way in our hearts in knowing that he made a choice, from a spiritual point of view, that he feels very good about. We hope that wherever Andrus goes, whether that's Texas, Florida State, wherever, we will support him 100 percent. We just want him to feel comfortable with it."

Peat Sr. didn't know if Andrus would take the five official visits allotted to a recruit.

"Todd took three visits, and he saw enough," Peat Sr. said. "Will he take all five? I'm not really sure. But he has a vision in his mind of what he would like to do and what he would like to see."

Class of 2012 quarterback and Texas commitment Connor Brewer (Scottsdale, Ariz./Chaparral) would like to see Andrus on Texas' offensive line. The two speak often, and Peat Sr. thinks that could play to the Longhorns' advantage.

"I think that is a natural process," Peat Sr. said. "The kids want to win."

Andrus will be able to graduate in December and enroll early at his school of choice, if he chooses. But his father doesn't know if Andrus will do that, because he has a chance to play basketball this winter with his younger brother, Cassius (Class of 2015).

"They are pretty close," Peat Sr. said. "If you would say which boys would go to school together, I'd say Cassius and Andrus, opposed to Todd and Andrus, to be honest."

Per Andrus, Cassius appears to be a better basketball player than football player right now. I want to say Cassius Peat is around 6'3'' 210, could be a hell of a linebacker. Given the bloodlines, Texas should take as many Peats as possible.

Something that I came by on twitter about Agholor.

"Agholor, who was under the weather, showed flashes in his team's victory of what makes him a five-star prospect. He should definitely be on the offensive side of the ball in college with the ball in his hands, in space, where he is outstanding at making plays. The best play from Agholor was a 51-yard touchdown run where he shot a hole on his right on a counter play and quickly separated himself from the defense. He finished with three touchdowns. Agholor is both quick and fast, but what makes him special is his ability to quickly change direction and accelerate separating from defenders. He will be a special wide receiver for whichever team he opts for. "

Yeah, even though UT has told Agholor he can have his pick of position, I think he may start leaning towards schools that are recruiting him specifically at WR. He does enjoy playing that position more. Hopefully UT can get him back on campus to ease any concerns he has about not getting a shot to play WR. I don't feel good about this recruitment currently, but things can change in a hurry.

I honestly wonder if Colin Blake would have been treated differently if the Texas coaches knew that Brewster had concussion issues. It's not too late to flip him.

At the very least, I think 2013 Mansfield S George Baltimore will get a very long look from Texas. Texas is likely in 2013 Florida S Marcell Harris' top 2-3.

chance of immediate PT is always big with recruits and that may get collins to look harder, but still 20-1 longshot.

i disagree on agholor, he is very realistic target. but with his stock going up at WR and all the schools recruiting as WR seems like it will take us offering position there with his expressed interest to play offense. sad because would love to see what akina could do with this kid at safety.

OL John Theus of Jacksonville, FL is definitely looking around. According to a report from Rivals this morning, he's already scheduled his first official visit to South Bend for Notre Dame/USC on October 22nd. Hopefully UT can get him to Austin closer to National Signing Day.

I been following this thread for a a while now and until now I decided to say something. Love the contributions from everyone here. Every post brings something to the table, love that.

Glad to hear it. It should be an exciting few months waiting to see if the 2012 class can close with a bang and then the 2013 class should start off in a big way if the Horns have a decent season.

So, Agholor, I had a good feeling about him back in the summer but not anymore. His stock as a receiver is rising and we are mostly looking at him as a DB even though I know Mack offered him as offensive/defensive player. Teams who offered him solely as a WR will have an advantage over us.

When one follows his weekly stats, it doesn't look like he's getting much work on defense this year. UT just needs to get him back on campus and reassure him that he'll have his pick of position (even though they prefer to have him at DB).

Just FYI that DB Mykkele Thompson has been working with the QBs this week in practice. He'd be a huge asset in the wildcat.

I've actually wondered if this might happen now that the SEC thing went down. Before he committed to Tennessee, his mom told me that she felt like he really liked A&M. Now that he can get the best of both worlds he may go ahead and stay in Texas. I'll see if I can catch up with her sometime in the next few days and get the skinny.

News is a bit slow today so here's some realignment stuff. Rumors floating around that BYU has an offical Big XII invite and the conference is also looking at other teams such as Boise State, Louisville, West Virginia and maybe TCU. A lot depends on what Mizzou decides to do and their bigwigs have a meeting tomorrow to decided upon their future:

Some info on 2013 QB JT Barrett of Wichita Falls Rider...he was at the OU/Mizzou game last weekend in Norman. He said UT has been recruiting him the hardest in recent weeks, but that OU and Baylor have picked up their efforts. Barrett says he wants to be at the Cotton Bowl for Texas/OU and is just waiting on an invitation. He's already been invited to Austin for every home game by the UT staff (he couldn't make Rice or BYU).

2013 DE William Udeh of Coppell is another prospect that was in Austin for the BYU game. He's one of the higher ranked DEs in the state of Texas for the 2013 class, but I'm not sure he gets an offer at this point. Just a guy to keep an eye on for the upcoming year.

Here's a 2013 out-of-state prospect to watch out for as well. I would not be surprised if the staff has already been by his school at some point.

DE, Marcus Farria, Centennial (Peoria, AZ) (6-4, 226)

TheChronic just posted this on Shaggy. Do not know exactly what it says but I am going to guess that it has a lot to do with Landon Collins being a priority for Texas now since the Longhorns lack safeties. Hope that something good comes out of Brewster's retirement and this might be Collins.

"AUSTIN, Texas -- There is never a bad time to get a commitment from a safety as polished and well-rounded as Under Armour All-American Landon Collins (http://espn.go.com/college-sports/football/recruiting/player/_/id/115402/landon-collins) (Geismar, La./Dutchtown). But his addition to Texas' Class of 2012 would be especially meaningful, considering the state of the position next season for the Longhorns. Collins, who is ranked as the No. 19 player overall and the No. 1 player in Louisiana by ESPNU, would join a secondary that just lost junior Nolan Brewster, who quit football because of concussions and post-traumatic migraine headaches. Hopefully Chronic can pitch in and let us know what the rest of it says. UT's recruitment of Collins has been oddly quiet considering he's such a highly-touted prospect. It's possible the staff has been there all along even though it hasn't been publicized, but hopefully we'll hear more about him now that the safety position has taken a hit with the loss of Brewster. I won't get excited until Collins gets to Austin but I'm all for the effort.

Coppell has another stud DE, 2014 recruit Solomon Thomas (6'3'' 248, 4.7). Thomas was also at the BYU game. Gerry Hamilton believes Thomas is a lock to be a top 100 player nationally.

Coppell plays @ Denton Guyer tonight at 7:30 on Fox Sports Southwest.
