Speaking of out-of-state prospects, DE Channing Ward of Aberdeen, MS is another guy who has talked about making a visit to Austin during the summer.
“I haven’t been over [to Texas] yet,” he said. “I’m going to try to get over there this summer and try to check it out. I had a good relationship with Coach (Manny) Diaz when he was at Mississippi State and I had a good relationship with Coach (Bo) Davis when he was at Alabama.”
Potentially some big names walking around the 40 in the upcoming months.

DMX7 asked me a question about Texas' uniforms for the upcoming season, so I'll share my response with everyone. Washington State and Arizona State (schools that have accounts with Nike like Texas does) have both received uniform makeovers by Nike during the offseason. See the links below:
Washington State
http://www.cougcenter.com/2011/4/11/2105432/washington-state-new-uniforms-nike-gray-alternate
Arizona State (more links inside)
http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/football/blog/dr_saturday/post/Fashion-Break-Arizona-State-helmets-drop-their-?urn=ncaaf-wp725
I think Washington State's are ugly and Arizona State's are pretty tight. Anyway, during the unveiling ceremony for Washington State, their AD made a comment about Nike re-designing uniforms for multiple schools including Texas. The idea Nike is presenting is creating new uniforms for all sports with a consistent theme (font, colors, etc.) that will help solidify each school's brand. It could be something Texas is realistically looking at because of the new Longhorn Network, but there's such tradition there that I highly doubt any major changes are made (if anything at all). We might see something like the Pro Combat uniforms Texas wore against A&M two years ago with numbers on their helmets (above the Longhorn) and a DKR Texas patch on their pants.
Oh Texas' uniforms already seem to be pretty consistently "branded" across sports. I can't imagine what different uniforms would look like. I doubt they change, and they really don't need to.

I'm 100% certain that the Texas uniform will not change.

They definitely don't need to change. The "Storm Trooper" all-white look is one of the cleanest in all of college football. They look even better since they went from the printed jerseys to the stitched jerseys.

Looks like the ThunderDome creator crossed the wrong person in Mrs. Gray. pauley01's official apology to the Gray family. My favorite line:
"Going a bit further, every claim made by The Thunderdome was something that had already been posted on other websites…we merely were trying to serve as a conduit to bring those rumors and allegations into the light and demonstrates their absurdity."
Wow. For a little more background, the only reason this information happened to be on other websites is because he stopped by as many recruiting websites as he could dropping the link to his own blog. He even had the stones to post it on OrangeBloods (the one website that would help the Grays pursue legal action). I hope it was worth it.

Some updates on the out-of-state targets...
*Read some pretty cool news about DE Torshiro Davis of Shreveport, LA. Turns out he's been invited by the staff to the annual UT summer camp during the first week of June and he has confirmed he'll be in attendance. He also mentioned that staff told him there's a "pretty good chance" he'll receive an offer while in Austin. Now, most of you wouldn't give this one a second look because he's an LSU commitment currently and it's damn near impossible to rob them of their recruits. However, Bo Davis is the lead recruiter on this one and has been recruiting Torshiro for Alabama since his freshman year. It also works in Texas' favor that Torshiro's coach and (Bo) Davis are very good friends. Torshiro's coach even came out this week and mentioned that Torshiro likes Davis so much that he'd probably be an Alabama commitment right now had he not left for Texas. It'll be extremely tough to pull Torshiro from LSU's death grip (he's the #2 ranked player in Louisana), but it is encouraging that he's making a trip to Austin soon despite his commitment. Torshiro will most likely receive a visit from (Bo) Davis and other staff members during spring evaluations. DE Channing Ward of Aberdeen, MS is another one to keep an eye on because of his previous relationship with Manny Diaz. (Bo) Davis also recruited Ward while at Alabama.
*Add Dorial Green-Beckham to the list of targets that the staff will be visiting during spring evaluations. Darrell Wyatt is supposed to be in Missouri at some point in May. Hopefully he can convince Green-Beckham to make Austin one of his stops during his summer tour.

One more thing...despite the lack of contact between the UT staff and ATH Kendall Sanders since the UT spring game, the staff has plans to be by Athens HS next week or early May. I hope we see an offer extended soon so all of the unncessary back-and-forth with him and UT can come to an end.

Many of the coaches have already hit the road this morning. Here's a brief summary of the scheduled visits so far:
-DT Malcom Brown and LB Tim Cole were visited at Brenham HS this morning (no word which staff members). Most likely Bo Davis and Oscar Giles.
-Stacy Searels is scheduled to be at Killeen Harker Heights on Monday morning to see OL Camrhon Hughes and he'll likely stop by Waco La Vega to see OL Michael Starts.
-Searels is also scheduled to be in Jacksonville, FL on Thursday afternoon to see OL John Theus after his visit with OL Andrus Peat in Tempe, AZ earlier that day. I tend not to give this one a second look because I think Theus ends up at Georgia, but it's interesting because of Searels' previous relationship with the Theus family. Searels recruited and signed John's older brother for Georgia last year, so he knows the family well. That could be enough to get Theus to Austin for an official visit in the fall. With that said, Theus remains a heavy Georgia lean.

There is a rumor circulating that the Brenham boys were in College Station today for the Aggie spring game. That rumor is NOT true, per their coach Glen West. Just wanted to clear that up for anyone who is wondering.

Thanks, shyne. Looks like they'll probably get ATH Bralon Addison at some point as well. Williams, Davis and Addison are very good friends. I wonder if QB Trevor Knight will remain committed to the Aggies with Davis now in the mix.
Maybe Gray will hurry up and announce already.

Just a quick recap from yesterday on who committed:
-The Houston trio of RB Trey Williams (Spring DeKaney), QB Matt Davis (Klein Forest) and ATH Bralon Addison (Fort Bend Hightower) committed to Texas A&M yesterday at the Aggie spring game. Really good day for the Ags.
-RB Jonathan Williams of Allen committed to Missouri. Williams was considered to be the back-up plan for Texas if RB Johnathan Gray goes anywhere other than UT.
Here's a more in-depth look on the new Aggie commitments from Recruitocosm:

*I just posted about ATH Bralon Addison committing to Texas A&M yesterday, but I found a conflicting report that says he's "staying true" to Oklahoma State for the time being. QB Matt Davis' father even came out yesterday and said Addison committed to the Aggies so I'm not sure what's going on there. We'll have to wait and see if this situation becomes more clear over the next couple of days. Consider him an Oklahoma State commitment for now as Rivals has not changed him to Texas A&M.
*DB Kenneth Marshall of South Houston committed to Oklahoma State yesterday.

*Darrell Wyatt was in Fort Worth on Friday to see 2013 DT A'Shawn Robinson of Arlington Heights. Robinson is currently at 6'4"/318 and still growing, so he could be an OT prospect by the end of his senior year. Either way, he'll be a Top 10 kind of guy in the state rankings for next year's class. He's definitely a guy Texas will go after hard as of right now.
*Just a reminder that Stacy Searels will be in Pearland this morning to see OL Kennedy Estelle. He'll follow that up with a trip to Killeen to check on OL Camrhon Hughes and 2013 OL/DT Darius James. James is a lot like Robinson in that he could be an OT prospect by the time he gets to college. He currently sits at 6'5"/319. The thought is Searels will also swing by Waco to see OL Michael Starts at some point this week (maybe today).
*Also a reminder that Darrell Wyatt and Oscar Giles will be in Weimar today to see 2013 OL Ja'Braylin Thomas. He's an absolute monster. An all-state OL as a sophomore, Thomas checks in at 6'7"/310.
Word is RB Trey Williams of Spring DeKaney has committed to Texas A&M. Hell of a get for them. Easily the Aggies' best recruit so far.
if true, that is very nice because, even though the aggies may have the best 1-2 RB tandem in the big XII this coming season with cyrus gray and michael (and michael looked great in the spring game), they are not all that deep at RB. mister jones and molina are okay but not solid at all. williams will get PT as a frosh for sure and i am sure he was told as much. if michael returns for his senior year then they will have another nice tandem to work with, as well as manziel, who i believe will earn the QB spot with no problem (he may even be the backup QB by fall as he was very impressive in the spring game).
of course, manziel will get plenty of competition from davis as well. whoever is in that backfield will definitely have one hell of an offensive line to work with.

*Bo Davis was in Humble today to visit with DT Paul Boyette, Jr.
*Per 24/7 Hook 'Em, DE Danielle Hunter (pronounced Dan-eel) of Katy Morton Ranch is a potential later bloomer prospect that could be evaluated by the staff in the upcoming month. Make a mental note of him as the staff is still looking for a weakside DE in this class. OU has already offered along with a handful of others.

*Darrell Wyatt and Bruce Chambers made it to Dallas Skyline yesterday to check on WR Thomas Johnson and LB Peter Jinkens.
*Oscar Giles did not make it to Weimar yesterday to see 2013 OL Ja'Braylin Thomas, but he is scheduled to by the school today.
*Read a report that the staff is most likely finished recruiting DT Eddie Goldman of Washington, D.C. now that there are already three DTs committed to UT for the 2012 class. DT Javonte Magee of San Antonio Sam Houston will likely be the sole focus at that position from this point forward.

*Per Gerry Hamilton of 24/7 Hook 'Em, the best news of the week so far is Darrell Wyatt went to see ATH Kendall Sanders at Athens HS today. There's no word yet if an offer was extended, but Hamilton seems to think that the UT staff is recruiting Sanders as a WR first and a DB second. That could be the reason he's yet to receive an offer because the staff is still evaluating him at that position. If true, this tells us just how much the staff wants Sanders in the mix by possibly granting him a shot to play WR. I know that Mack Brown really likes him a lot.
*Hamilton also made mention of a mystery recruit that Texas is after right now. I don't have a clue as to who it could be as there was no mention of what position he plays. The only hint we have so far is he's currently committed to another school. My first guess would be DE Mario Edwards, Jr. of Denton Ryan, but that seems to be too simple of an answer.
TFloss32
04-19-2011, 02:43 PM
Considering UT's needs right now, my other guesses would be S Edward Pope (TCU) of Carthage or ATH Reginald Davis (Texas Tech) of Tenaha.
TFloss32
04-19-2011, 04:58 PM
*Another candidate for that mystery recruit could be ATH Daniel Brooks of Rockdale who recently committed to OU.
http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/football/recruiting/player-Daniel-Brooks-109588
*Oscar Giles definitely made it to Weimar today to see 2013 OL Ja'Braylin Thomas. Thomas is now set for UT's summer camp in the first week of June. Sounds like Weimar has another 2013 prospect worth evaluating in WR Lynx Hawthorne. He's currently committed to Baylor.

Sorry for all of the stop-and-go, but lots of info floating around this week:
*Correction on ATH Kendall Sanders...the staff actually visited Athens yesterday, not today. Turns out BOTH Darrell Wyatt and Duane Akina made the trip. It sounds like the staff is pretty serious about his recruitment if they sent both of his potential position coaches out to evaluate him. It's encouraging news and hopefully the staff will offer at some point this spring.
*Stacy Searels will be visiting OL Andrus Peat of Tempe, AZ tomorrow instead of Thursday. That puts Searels in Jacksonville, FL on Thursday to see OL John Theus and he'll follow that up with a trip to Buford, GA to visit with OL Vadal Alexander on Friday. He had tentatively planned to see OL D.J. Humphries of Charlotte, NC as well but he'll be out of town on Spring Break this week.

Lots of news coming down since last night...
*First of all, RB Johnathan Gray has set his announcement time. He'll be releasing his decision to the media at 9:10 a.m. on Friday morning in the Aledo field house. Like I said before, if Gray commits to Texas, the staff is hoping that this will create a domino effect with other big recruits committing to UT as well. Word is Gray's commitment will go a long way towards wrapping up OL Kennedy Estelle. The rumor going around is Gray has been doing a lot of his own recruiting for UT lately.
*Stacy Searels stopped by Woodlawn HS yesterday in Shreveport, LA to see DE Torshiro Davis. Turns out Searels watched a bit of film on Davis and he was offered a scholarship on the spot. This offer will likely become "official" once Davis sits down with Mack Brown in the future, but it appears that Davis is a realistic target at this point. UT wouldn't have offered if that weren't the case. He still plans on being in Austin for UT's annual summer camp during the first week of June. The fact that Bo Davis, Torshiro and Torshiro's coach are all very close is going to help UT tremendously. I read an article on Davis after he committed to LSU back in February and his mindset reminds me a lot of DT Malcom Brown of Brenham. He said he basically committed to LSU early because it was the only school he knew much about. Sounds like he wants to be a bit more thorough with the process and check out other schools. It's a positive for UT that the Shreveport area is not hardcore LSU.
*More good news...per 24/7 Hook 'Em, Stacy Searels will be in Tempe, AZ this morning to see OL Andrus Peat. He'll then head over to Chaparral HS in Scottsdale to check on QB Connor Brewer. Bryan Harsin is expected to make a follow-up visit with the two prospects during the first week of May. The best news is Peat confirmed that he'll be making a visit to the UT campus at some point during the summer. Brewer has plans on coming back for UT's summer camp in June so hopefully Peat will make it in at the same time. It's always better to have these big-name recruits on campus all at once.
*Stacy Searles was also in Carthage yesterday to see OL Greg Brantley. He's a guy that they want to give a longer look and are trying to get him on campus during the summer to evaluate him further.
*Lastly, there's apparently another mystery recruit that Texas is looking at and it's a totally different player than the one I mentioned yesterday. The only information I have so far is he's an out-of-state prospect. I'd imagine he comes from SEC country. I'll let you know as soon as I find out who these guys are.

*ATH Kendall Sanders was not extended a scholarship offer by Texas yesterday. No need to panic, though. Word is things are starting to heat back up again with him.
*I thought it was worth mentioning that Texas will be the first school to visit OL Andrus Peat during the spring evaluation period. Hopefully that's one of those little things that will help UT in the long run.

Thing have already changed a bit since RB Johnathan Gray's coach wrote that press release yesterday evening. Gray will actually be announcing his decision around midnight on Thursday and then he'll adress the media at 9:00 a.m. on Friday morning. Gray says he'll be calling the coaching staffs of UT, A&M and TCU prior to making his decision. I'll be up late on Thursday since I don't have work on Friday, so I'll post the news as soon as I see it.

More awesome news...
*Darrell Wyatt is scheduled to be in Springfield, MO today to see WR Dorial Green-Beckham. Now, the report was a bit confusing, but there's a possibility that Wyatt may not actually get to speak with Green-Beckham (which isn't unusual for school visits as the coaches are sometimes there to simply watch a player workout and let there presence be known). Turns out Green-Beckham and his adopted father and coach, John Beckham, will be making a trip to Memphis later today to see Green-Beckham's little brother who's being treated for cancer at St. Jude. I'll let you know how it all works out, but as of right now, the staff's hope is to at least have a conference call with Mack Brown, Wyatt, Green-Beckham and Beckham's father. Brown is insistent upon everyone being together when they speak.
*The mystery out-of-state recruit that the UT staff visited yesterday is DT Quay Evans of Morton, MS. Evans is considered to be one of the top DTs in the nation and looks to be another Bo Davis special. Davis was recruiting Evans last season for Alabama. No word which staff member made the trip, but I assume it was either Davis or Manny Diaz. We'll keep an eye on this one to see if the interest is mutual and if the staff is seriously thinking about offering. UT is pretty much full at the DT position for the 2012 class, so it'll be interesting to see what the staff is thinking on this one with DT Javonte Magee still on the board.

Here's some good info on the recruiting rules that the coaches are dealing with. I did not know that the coaches aren't allowed to speak with prospects on their visits to schools other than a "hello" or taking pictures for evaluation purposes. Prospects and coaches are allowed to speak via email and facebook as much as they want, but only a single phone call can be made by the coaches to juniors from April 15th to May 31st. They can then contact them once a week after September 1st of their senior year. Recruits are allowed to call coaches as much as they want regardless if they're a sophomore, junior or senior, but the coaches are bound by the following rules:
Per NCAA Bylaw 13.1.3.1 Time Period for Telephone Calls - General Rule. Telephone calls to an individual (or his or her relatives or legal guardians) may not be made before July 1 following the completion of his or her junior year in high school (subject to the exceptions below); thereafter, staff members shall not make such telephone calls more than once per week.
In football, the exceptions are,
NCAA Bylaw 13.1.3.1.2 Exception.Football. [FBS/FCS]
In football, one telephone call to an individual (or the individual’s relatives or legal guardians) may be made from April 15 through May 31 of the individual’s junior year in high school. Additional telephone calls to an individual (or the individual’s relatives or legal guardians) may not be made before September 1 of the beginning of the individual’s senior year in high school. Thereafter, such telephone contact is limited to once per week outside a contact period, but may be made at the institution’s discretion during a contact period.

*Just a reminder that RB Johnathan Gray will be announcing his commitment tonight around midnight. He'll address the media at Aledo HS on Friday morning at 9 a.m. Things still look very good for Texas on this one. I'll definitely be up waiting for the news, so I'll post anything I read.
*Also a reminder that Stacy Searels will be in Jacksonville, FL this afternoon to check on OL John Theus. Theus is considered to be all but a Georgia lock at this point, but it is encouraging that Searels knows the Theus family very well after recruiting John's brother for Georgia last year. Theus mentioned a while ago that he plans on taking an official visit to Texas during the fall.
*Following up on Darrell Wyatt's visit to Springfield, MO to check on WR Dorial Green-Beckham...no word yet if they were able to make the conference call with Mack Brown, but Green-Beckham's father said yesterday that Texas will be receiving a visit at some point this spring or during the summer. My guess is the UT staff won't be picky and they will take a visit whenver they can get one, but ideally they'd like to have him on campus for UT's annual summer camp during the first week of June. Lots of other commitments and recruits will be in town at that time.
*Wyatt also made two additional visits yesterday. First, he stopped in Whitewright to see 2013 QB Tyrone Swoopes (nephew of WNBA legend, Sheryl Swoopes). Swoopes currently checks in at 6'5"/220 and is a Vince Young clone when it comes to his measurables. There's no way of knowing how good this kid will be, but he's supposedly dominating his competition on the football field and basketball court as a sophomore. UT is definitely recruiting him as a QB (not as an ATH) and they will be one of many schools after him for the next two years. TCU has already offered. Wyatt also made a stop in Sherman to see DB Ryan Reid. Reid is one of a handful of prospects that Texas is currently evaluating for their last DB spot of the 2012 class.
*Speaking of DBs, the mystery in-state prospect who's committed to another school turned out to be ATH Daniel Brooks of Rockdale (who's currently pledged to OU). His spring track times have caused a lot of schools to do a double-take as he recently won the 100 M and 110 M hurdles at Texas Relays. With the interest in Brooks heating up, it appears as if the staff may offer him as a DB while offering ATH Kendall Sanders of Athens as a WR/ATH. Darell Wyatt is supposed to be in Rockdale on Friday at some point to take a look at Brooks.
*Stacy Searels apparently had a great visit with OL Andrus Peat's coach yesterday at Corona Del Sol HS in Tempe, AZ. Searles didn't get to talk with Peat due to NCAA rules, but Peat came out and said that he's "for sure" going to be taking a visit to the UT campus during the summer. Peat's coach stated this morning that Texas is pretty much a lock right now to make his "Top 5." He mentioned Peat really appreciated Texas being the first school to come by and visit him during the spring evaluation period. It's important for him to be at a school where he knows he's wanted. Searles is supposed to be making a second trip back to Tempe, AZ before the spring evaluation period is over. The NCAA permits coaches two visits during that time...one for academic purposes (picking up transcripts) and the other for athletic evaluation. Searels also had the opportunity to check in with QB Connor Brewer yesterday. I'd imagine the staff would like to bring in Peat for the summer camp in June as Brewer is already scheduled to be there. Brewer is going to be an integral part of Peat's recruitment.
*ATH Nelson Agholor's coach mentioned that Duane Akina will be making a trip to Tampa, FL during the month of May even though an official date has yet to be scheduled. Berkeley Prep doesn't start their spring practice until May 2nd, so it will be at some point after that. UT is recruiting Agholor as a safety.
*Major Applewhite is expected to be in Orange, TX today at West Orange-Stark HS to check on DB Justin Thomas (former UT DB Earl Thomas' cousin). Now, I mentioned a while back that I didn't think Texas would seriously pursue Thomas (mainly because of his height...he's only 5'8"), but it's simply been too difficult for schools to ignore his skills despite his small stature. He remains a candidate for that last DB spot. I'd be more than happy if UT decided to offer him.
*Lastly, I thought it was worth noting a quote that I read from new DT target, Quay Evans, of Morton, MS. Like DE Torshiro Davis of Shreveport, LA, Evans had planned on committing to Alabama early on in the recruiting process. He decided against that once Bo Davis left for Texas. He said he couldn't imagine committing to the Tide if Davis wasn't going to be his position coach. Turns out Davis was the UT coach in Mississippi earlier in the week to check on Evans.

It remains to be seen whether Texas will be able to hang on to all of these commitments if they have another bad year. I'd think after two down years they'd start losing people, but I thought they'd lose more kids after this past year and they kept practically everyone.

Quote from RB Johnathan Gray after becoming #16 for Texas. He and RB Malcolm Brown will make a hell of a tandem.
"It's Texas! This was a difficult decision. I chose UT because I get a chance to be teammates with several good players. Getting a chance to work with Malcolm Brown will make me a better player. I also feel that having a young staff playing in a new offense will be exciting. I feel really blessed to have this opportunity."

Very excited about getting Gray. Think this will have a domino effect on some of the OL we're pursuing like Estelle and the OOS studs. Pretty impressive class by Mack this year. The new hires are definitely going after it. This takes a little sting out of the Mavs loss tonight.
Yeah, now we just need to close and pick up some stud O-lineman.

Hamilton is definitely gone. As of yesterday, Thompson and Joseph were entering the draft without agents. Joseph obviously needs to come back, but I'm hoping Thompson will as well. He's pretty undersized for his position and his free throw shooting needs a lot of work. He may very well want to take his chances at better draft position and a bigger paycheck with other studs deciding to stay in school.

Hamilton is a nice player that probably can make it OK with two years college experience. Thompson and Joseph are simply not ready. College basketball AND the NBA suffer with the volume of one and dones. If you can truly dominate in a greatly diluted college game that's one thing, but Thompson and Joseph are not at that point yet.

More updates and follow-up info from the busy recruiting week...
*There isn't much to report on Stacy Searels' visit to Tempe, AZ to see OL Andrus Peat other than what I wrote on Thursday, but there are some good quotes from his high school coach that I'll post below. Not only was he adamant about the importance of Texas being so proactive in Peat's recruitment (Searels was the first coach to call Peat when the spring evaluation period started and he was the first coach by Corona Del Sol HS), but he also mentioned that he didn't believe Nebraska lead in Peat's recruitment simply because his brother signed with the Huskers earlier in the year.
“Everybody says that and I think they are kind of hoping that was a package deal for them,” Joseph said about the Husker faithful. “But I wouldn’t say Nebraska has the edge.”
“He (Peat) really doesn’t care if he’s east of the Mississippi, west of the Mississippi. He just wants to go somewhere that he's wanted. That’s why it was great that coach Searels came out,” Joseph said.
“He just has so much potential to be great. Size wise, he's 6-7 and 298 right now. He doesn't even shave yet, has size 16 feet,” said coach Joseph. “His upper body strength may be a bit of a weakness right now, but his hips, his thighs and his backside are huge. He has a lot of power in his lower half. He has long arms. And he's a good worker."
“He’s going to be a good 6-7 and 318-320 when someone gets him. He carries it so well. He really has knack for the game itself. He wants to be great at it. He doesn't want to be good, he wants to be great. He’s kind of a silent leader too. The kids look up to him and he kind of leads by example.”
Searels has plans to be back by Corona Del HS in May to see Peat go through spring drills. In the meantime, Peat will be planning out his future trip to Austin. If QB Connor Brewer had his way, Peat would be making the trip with him to the UT summer camp in June.
*Speaking of Brewer, Searels did make it to Chapparal HS to see him after visiting with Peat. They didn't get to talk directly because of NCAA rules, but they were able to chat via Facebook aftewards. Brewer was excited that Searels took the opportunity to come by. For those that are interested, Brewer is reporting that he's now up to 200 lbs. and feels just as flexible and mobile as he ever has. He's been really pulling his weight attempting to do his part when it comes to UT's recruitment of Peat. Bryan Harsin is scheduled to see Brewer when Chaparral HS starts their spring drills in the beginning of May. See Brewer's quotes below about Searels' visit:
“It was good. I was excited for him to come up,” Brewer said. “I know his main reason to come over was to come and see Andrus. I’ve been talking to Andrus a lot. I think Texas has a great shot at getting Andrus if we can get him to campus. But seeing (Searels), it was a good trip for us. When he came to talk to our coaches, that was cool. They really liked him. I understand why he's a great guy and going to be a great coach for Texas.”
“From when I was talking to him and talking to my coach after meeting him, he liked Andrus a lot. He really wants him to come take a visit to Texas,” Brewer said. “I know I'm coming up for the June 5 camp, the one they’re trying to get the commits to. Hopefully Andrus can come up with me. Even if I'm not there when he goes, I hope he goes and has a good visit.”
*Following up on ATH Daniel Brooks of Rockdale...Darrell Wyatt went by his school yesterday even though students were off for Good Friday. Wyatt had the opportunity to watch some tape and visit with the Rockdale coaches. The thought is UT will be recruiting him as a DB, but some believe he could find his niche as a D.J. Monroe or Ramonce Taylor type of player. He prefers to play RB and has been shooting down schools that want him to play different positions, so we'll see where things go. Wyatt and Akina are having to be very selective with their final offers to skill players because scholarship numbers are tight right now. An interesting "in" that UT currently has with Brooks...Wyatt ran track at Kansas State with Brooks' uncle.
*Oscar Giles made his way by Katy Morton Ranch to see DE Danielle Hunter on Tuesday. Although OU currently leads in Hunter's recruitment, offers from in-state schools like UT and A&M would change things significantly. He's made it known that he'd like to stay close to home if possible.
*Status quo with ATH Kendall Sanders of Athens. The UT staff followed up their Monday visit with their one phone call on Thursday. They used the opportunity to assure him that they're still evaluating him. There are some rumors out there that the staff is waiting on him to decommit from Oklahoma State before offering, but there's really know way of knowing what's going on there. I think the more plausible scenario is the staff has yet to determine if an offer to Sanders would count towards the WR or DB scholarship numbers.

He didn't leave, he's doing what Damion did by putting your name in and getting feedback on your draft stock and how you're being scouted. He'll almost certainly get a 2nd round grade and return for another season at UT. I've heard Lex Wangmene is also doing the same thing, and it's smart to do so.

I hope the Canadian frosh are just testing the water and come back. UT can be really good again in 2011-12 if they do.
I just don't know if you are helping yourself in the long run bringing in guys (with the exception of Durant - he was a once in a generation player) when you only get one year with them.
Barnes is not getting a chance to truly build a team with the early entries (one and dones) being the rule and not the exception with their most prized recruits.
Football is so different than basketball in this regard because you usually get at least three years from even the top players. The physical size and strength is the key item for the football guys.

Per 24/7 Hook 'Em, UT is apparently throwing their name in the hat for another five-star prospect. S Landon Collins of Geismar, LA had a phone conversation with Duane Akina last week. Akina let him know that UT was interested and did his best to gauge Collins' stance on leaving Louisana to play his college football. Collins said he was probably going to call the UT staff again in the upcoming days and mentioned he'd like to make a trip to Austin at some point in the future to check out the UT campus. Texas is now in pursuit of Louisana's top two prospects: Collins and DE Torshiro Davis. Interesting quote from Collins to leave you with:
“It’s a big opportunity (LSU) to play close to home and my family be able to drive a little ways to see me play,” Collins said. “But I have no problems going out of state either. I can deal with being out of state. I don’t like to stay home anyways.”

*Stacy Searels did make it by Waco La Vega last week to check on OL Michael Starts. There's still not much to report on him and nobody can confirm a leader in his recruitment as he doesn't talk to the media very often. He's still set for a decision by the end of the summer. Remember, UT is the only school recruiting him for the offensive line specifically. TCU and Texas A&M have offered him a position on the defensive line and Baylor has told him he can have his pick of offense or defense.
*I wrote last Tuesday that Duane Akina visited San Antonio Sam Houston see DT Javonte Magee. It was actually Oscar Giles that made the visit. The latest on Magee is Baylor sits out front (believe it or not!). Looks like the Bears are about to offer Magee's high school teammates, S Leo Thomas and OL Ralphael Green, and that could be a game-changer. I assume Magee skipping the UT spring game in favor of going to Waco didn't sit well with the staff. He will definitely have an invite to UT's summer camp in June and it will be important to get him around the current commitments and other recruits. If Magee skips out on the camp like he did the spring game, it's possible the staff closes up this recruitment. If he does end up attending, it'll be interesting to see how long the staff will continue to pursue him passed that point with three DTs already in the mix.
*While we're talking about offensive lineman, OL Kennedy Estelle of Pearland Dawson has still not made a decision on his next visit. He'll be choosing between Alabama and Auburn or a trip to Tallahassee to see Florida State. The commitment of RB Johnathan Gray has only helped UT that much more in their recruitment of Estelle. Outside of a surprise commitment from someone else, he looks to be the next UT commitment and #17 of the 2012 class.

Word on OL Kennedy Estelle today is his out-of-state visits could come as late as this summer because of his busy school schedule. Not only will he be competing at the state level for track, he'll also be taking on spring football. All of this could leave him without time to make any recruiting trips until school ends. It's still a possibility that Estelle doesn't make any out-of-state visits at all. He could tire of the recruiting process by that point and simply give his commitment. Not to be discouraged...this is one guy that UT will stay on until the very end if need be (doesn't sound like this will go beyond summer).

Latest quotes from OL Kennedy Estelle. Looks like his timeline for a decision is right before school starts back up again at the end of summer.
"Really, my family has been talking about colleges, the one my parents are leaning to is Texas," Estelle said. "They think it would bet better for my family. Most of my family lives in Texas, so they would be able to watch me play."
"I'm not going to make decision until the beginning of the season," Estelle said. "I'm still open. I'm trying to get down to top three but I haven't been able to do that yet."

Article on DT Quay Evans of Morton, MS. Looks like UT has made his "Top 6" without an offer. Oregon and USC are on the list, but I don't see those schools as realistic possibilities. That leaves a list of Alabama, Ole Miss, Miss State and Texas. I don't know if I've mentioned this before, but Evans actually committed to Ole Miss a while back and decided to decommit for some reason. Quick update on 2013 DT Robert Nkemdiche of Loganville, GA...if you don't remember me mentioning him a while back, I've posted his Rivals profile below along with a nice write-up from ESPN. He will most likely be a "Top 10" kind of prospect for the 2013 class and possibly even the #1 prospect overall. Nothing groundbreaking to report, but he gave Texas a nice shout-out recently in this quote about his recruitment:
"It's getting crazy already," Nkemdiche said of his recruitment. "I'm hearing from almost everyone but I would like to hear more from Oregon and LSU. I just like those two programs and how they use their defensive lineman. Right now I'd say Alabama, Auburn and Georgia have my early attention. Georgia Tech and Texas as well. I've been hearing a lot from Texas already, which is big since I know they don't recruit out of state much."
It's hard to even get excited about this one because he's such a high profile recruit living in SEC territory, but I like that the UT staff is pursuing him so early and that gets me pumped up. That's not a strategy we've really seen thus far in the Mack Brown era. Schools don't usually have a chance with the national studs if they're late to the party, so it's encouraging to see the staff working so hard on the recruiting trail and at least giving themselves a chance to land big names.
Nkemdiche apparently comes from a very solid family. His situation reminds me a lot of the Achos. His father is a doctor in Atlanta and his mother is a politician back home in Nigeria (she attended Michigan State). The only knock on Nkemdiche (from a UT perspective) is he currently lives with his high school coach who is an Alabama alum. UT may very well have a shot due to their emphasis on the importance of family and the value they place on education.

Per a report this morning from Gerry Hamilton of 24/7 Hook 'Em, five-star DE Noah Spence of Harrisburg, PA wants to hear more from Texas. Spence mentioned that he would look at Texas "real heavy" if they offered and also said the first thing he's looking for in a school and coaching staff is the "family atmosphere." Hamilton had the opportunity to meet with the Spence family last night and stated afterwards that Noah is "wide open" in his recruitment and isn't attached to a certain school. He commented that Spence comes from a great background and has solid character. He's not the type of kid that wants Texas to recruit him simply to bolster his offer list. His father works as a probation officer and mentioned that he likes the Texas program. Hamilton thinks the UT staff will be in Harrisburg at some point in May and feels this is a kid that a big-time program can steal away if they put in the effort.

Landon Collins would be a fucking HUGE pull for Texas. It's amazing to me how much more this new assistant staff recruits OOS (- Duane Akina) than the previous idiots. I wouldn't get my hopes up for either guy as things are in the beginning stages, but the bottom line is it's encouraging to see the new staff be such aggressive recruiters so far (both in-state and out-of-state). Elite talent can't come to UT if they aren't offered. If you offer and seriously pursue 10 out-of-state studs every year and only end up landing one or two, it's completely worth it.

Some Monday morning updates...
*Duane Akina will be making a trip to Tampa, FL today to check on ATH Nelson Agholor at Berkeley Prep HS. Their spring practices start this afternoon. I would file this one in the "longshot" category for now. UT will need to get Agholor on campus to have a chance in his recruitment. The overall consensus right now is this will end up being a Florida/Florida State battle, but we'll see how long UT sticks with it.
*While in Florida, Akina will also stop by South Lake HS in Groveland to see 2013 DB Marcell Harris. This news came out yesterday, so there aren't any details to report at this point other than UT will be recruiting him as a safety. Harris attends the same high school as 2011 DB Nick Waisome. If you remember, UT had contact with Waisome in the beginning stages of his recruitment last year, so there is familiarity and a previous relationship with the South Lake HS coaching staff. See Harris' Rivals profile below:
http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/football/recruiting/player-Marcell-Harris-111777
*Nothing groundbreaking to report on DT Javonte Magee of San Antonio Sam Houston, but LSU did make a visit to his high school last week. With Magee being a Louisiana native, LSU offering in the future could really shake things up in his recruitment. Even though his mother may have something to say about him going to college eight hours away from San Antonio, I do believe that LSU is a place Magee has always wanted to be. He continues to reiterate that he has plans to make a visit to Baton Rouge whenever he can. If that somehow doesn't work out, Baylor is still a very real possibility because of his high school teammates, OL Ralphael Green and S Leo Thomas. See the recent quotes from Thomas and Magee below:
"Javonte, we're thinking of going to Baylor together but we don't know for sure yet. We're putting our emphasis on Baylor. But we're also still waiting for LSU," Thomas said.
"We're trying to go to the same college. We're really close, like family. We want to go to the same school," Magee said.
Just to clarify, Green and Thomas still do not have offers from Baylor (they may receive one by the end of summer). The only offer either of them hold currently is from North Texas. Thomas has sent his film in to the coaching staff at LSU, but I don't see him receiving an offer from the Tigers. The only way the trio ends up going to school together is if they all end up in Waco. Magee's recruitment gives me the same feeling as that of 2011 RB Aaron Green. He doesn't strike me as a guy that has a genuine desire to go to UT despite his claims that the Longhorns are at the top of his list. Because of this, Magee may end up being a guy that the staff recruits sparingly instead of him being viewed as a priority (especially with three DTs already committed).
*To follow up on ATH Daniel Brooks of Rockdale...his coach has come out and said he feels Brooks chances of de-committing from OU (or even looking at other schools) are not good at this point. Brooks' coach mentioned that if UT does decide to seriously pursue him, an offer would have to be extended first and foremost. He stated that he didn't think Brooks would work out for another team or attend any camps in hopes of gaining an offer when he feels comfortable with his commitment to OU.
*Lastly, things are still quiet with OL Michael Starts of Waco La Vega. He's been busy with track lately, but he and his father are doing their best to iron out plans to visit several schools this summer. Mr. Starts mentioned Texas and OU would likely be getting visits this month and they will be attempting to visit Auburn, Michigan and Notre Dame at some point as well.

*An interesting development...OL Vadal Alexander of Buford, GA was quoted saying he does have plans to get to Texas this summer. Alexander joins a handful of other out-of-state studs who've said they'll be on the UT campus in the upcoming months. Ideally the staff would like to have all of these prospects at the June 5th summer camp in order to have them around current commitments like QB Connor Brewer and RB Johnathan Gray, but they'll obviously host these guys whenever is best for them.
*UT stopped in Van Alstyne yesterday to check on 2013 OL Alex Mayes. There's a long way to go with this one, but the Mayes family is all TCU. Mayes' father and grandfather both played football for the Horned Frogs. Things could change with an offer from Texas, but that's where this recruitment is headed as of right now.

*Bo Davis still has plans on visiting DE Torshiro Davis of Shreveport, LA during the spring evaluation period. As most of you know, Bo was recruiting Torshiro while at Alabama and Torshiro himself has come out and said that he was going to commit to the Tide early on in the process had Bo not left for Texas. Torshiro is scheduled to be in Austin for the June 5th summer camp. See recent quotes from him below:
"I haven't heard when he's (Bo) coming by, but I talked to coach Davis the next day after the o-line coach (Searels) had come," said Torshiro Davis. "He basically told me he wants to offer me a scholarship. If he offered me, he wanted to know if I was going to come and does he still have a chance or am I set in stone for LSU?"
"LSU is not set in stone just yet. I want to make sure I feel LSU is the best school for me," Davis said.
"I've heard a lot of good things about Texas, but I haven't seen it first-hand yet," Davis said. "I've just heard about the way they play football, the way they go after the ball. They're non-strop and don't take any plays off."
"At that time, when I committed, LSU was the only school I knew anything about," Davis said. "So I went ahead and committed. I didn't know it would be like this."
"I have to find somewhere that I'll feel comfortable for the next four years of my life," Davis said. "I'm not just looking for a school, I'm looking for an adopted family. I don't want to wake up the next day and wonder why did I come here?"

Some Aggie news...RB Dennis Smith of Wimberley is likely to de-commit from Texas A&M soon. Smith is known for his legal and family problems and I think he's beginning to see the writing on the wall as the A&M coaching staff hasn't contacted him in a while. He currently holds offers from Iowa State, North Texas and Texas State. UNT and Texas State have apparently offered him the starting job as a freshman so there's an incentive for him to commit to either of those schools in the future. The recent commitment of RB Trey Williams will likely influence his decision as well.

*Correction on ATH Nelson Agholor...Duane Akina actually stopped by Berkeley Prep in Tampa, FL yesterday (not Monday as originally scheduled). He ended up spending the majority of Monday afternoon at South Lake HS talking to their coaching staff and watching 2013 DB Marcell Harris work out. I'll follow-up with the Agholor visit if I read anything.
*Speaking of 2013 DB Marcell Harris of Groveland, FL...the visit apparently went very well and Akina made quite the impression. He was the first coach to check on Harris during the spring evaluation period and that meant a lot to everyone. It's UT's hope that Harris will get to Austin at some point this summer. It's great to know that the UT staff will have been recruiting and developing relationships with these prospects for several months before offering them official scholarships in February of their junior year. Familiarity with a program is a big thing for most of these kids. See quotes from Harris and the South Lake HS coaching staff below:
"Texas is very high, very high with Marcell," coach Banks said. "It's all new to Marcell, but I know he has a lot of interest in Texas."
“I think the big three in-state (Florida, FSU, Miami) will offer him by July,” Larmond said. “Coach Akina said he will go back to Austin and talk with Mack Brown about offering.”
“Coach Akina said he is the best sophomore defensive back he’s seen so far,” he added. “Texas wants to try and get Marcell and his family to Austin this summer.”
“Coach Akina stayed for our whole practice, about two and a half hours. He also stayed about an hour after practice, got on the chalkboard and talked football with us. He scored points with us today,” Larmond said Monday night.
“Texas was the first school to come out and look at me,” Harris said Monday night. “I’m fortunate that Texas came out to see me and that means a lot to me.”
"Texas is a school that I’ve had interest in for a while. They had Will Muscahmp, so their defense was real good,” he said.
“My in-state favorites are the Florida Gators and FSU (Florida State). Texas and maybe Louisville are my favorite out of state schools,” Harris said. “I plan to camp at FSU, Florida and hopefully Texas this summer.”
*The most surprising news of the the week thus far has to do with a highly sought-after prospect from the JUCO ranks. Now, for those of you who've been following UT football and/or recruiting during Mack Brown's tenure, you know that Brown has avoided JUCO players like the plague. It's simply something he's never given a second look for a multitude of reasons. Anyway, Bo Davis has already made two visits to Scooba, MS to evaluate DE Denico Autry of East Mississippi CC. Autry already has offers from the majority of the SEC and other well known programs from around the country. Apparently UT has put their name into the mix as well. He mentions that he currently holds an offer from Texas, but that most likely wouldn't be official until he got to Austin for a visit. The staff will also be waiting to see what his transcripts look like through summer school and into the upcoming fall semester. I'd be extremely surprised if this somehow worked out in Texas' favor, but apparently Autry is high on the Longhorns.
"I picked up a Texas A&M offer and a Texas offer a couple of weeks ago," noted Autry. "I also have offers from Florida, Mississippi State, Alabama, Ole Miss, Oregon, Tennessee and some others."
"I would say Texas, Mississippi State and Alabama are my favorites and it's between those three schools," said Autry. "Coach (Manny) Diaz of Texas offered me two weeks ago and they already knew of me when he was at Mississippi State. And Bo Davis is at Texas and he is a good guy, too.

Sorry, fellas. I'm a bit behind this morning, but here are some updates...
*OL Kennedy Estelle received visits yesterday from Alabama and Oregon. Alabama ended up offering before they left Pearland Dawson HS adding to Estelle's already impresive list. They also decided to offer 2013 RB James White (a guy Texas will target for the next class). Estelle's timeline for a decision looks to be before the start of his senior season after he makes a trip to Auburn/Alabama or Florida State. Unfortunately those unofficial visits are now slated for the summer time because of his commitment to track and spring football.
http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/football/recruiting/player-James-White-114789
*Update on ATH Daniel Brooks of Rockdale...he came out yesterday and mentioned that he thinks Texas is close to offering. Texas will have to offer first before Brooks decides to come to campus (even though that still might not be enough). Another potential problem is he's not too pushed on playing defense and the Longhorns are in serious need of help in the secondary. I think he prefers that scat-back type of role on offense instead of playing corner. That could be an issue but we'll continue to monitor how this one plays out. Makes you wonder where things are at with ATH Kendall Sanders.
*Here are some quotes from the Berkeley Prep coaching staff to follow up on Duane Akina's visit to check on ATH Nelson Agholor. His family wants to start cutting his list down after spring training comes to an end.
“He seemed to like Nelson very much,” Ciao said. “I don't want to speak for him, but seemed like he was very excited about Nelson as a player and as a worker. It meant a lot to everybody here than he made a special trip down here to see Nelson. We were very excited to have him here.”
“We have a great respect for Coach Brown and is program,” Ciao said. “Any school that comes here to recruit one of our kids is special to us, but it surely was nice to have the University of Texas here.”
“I think they'd very much love to have him on their campus for a visit or a camp,” Ciao said. “After we're done with spring ball Nelson and his family will sit down and make a list of the schools he wants to visit and he'll go from there."
“He's wide open with recruiting,” Ciao added. “There are several schools he's interested in, but he'll really start to look at that after spring.”
“He's stayed very, very humble to this point and he's the type who understands how fortunate he is where school becomes interested in him,” Ciao said. “The hardest part for Nelson will be when he starts to shorten his list down because there are so many great coaches at different schools that he's gotten to know already.”
*A little more to report from 2013 DB Marcell Harris of Groveland, FL. I found out yesterday that his father apparently played for Florida at one point. I don't know what the extent of his career was or how loyal he is to the Gators, but that could come into play in this recruitment. Most of the pictures I've seen of Harris thus far have him in Florida gear. Anyway, some more quotes:
"He's a good 6-2 200-pound free safety. He has good range, speed, good hips and he's a big-time hitter," said South Lake head coach Walter Banks. "We have a lot of schools coming by this week and next week."
"I expected he (Akina) was just going to stay about 30 minutes. He stayed the whole practice, then went into the coaches' office and talked football with us," said Banks. "He seems like a really good guy.
"He spent a lot of time with our coaching staff. It was really good to have him here. I've been here 12 years, that was the first time a Texas coach been on campus. It was a blessing. With Texas being such a brand name, even in Florida, the kids were excited."
"I always really liked Texas ever since I was little. They were always one of my top schools as well as Florida and Florida State," said Harris. "It really means a lot to me that coach Akina came out here. It makes me want to work harder to show them what I can do."
"He's probably going to go on an unofficial visit up there (to Austin, TX) and maybe hit a one- or two-day camp when they start camping," said Banks. "We'll have to look at dates, make sure we're out of school and have no camps, but he's definitely interested."
*Two additional big-time 2013 prospects that you need to file away:
TE, Ricky Seals-Jones, Sealy (6-5, 220)
http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/football/recruiting/player-Ricky-Seals-Jones-124950
OL, Jake Raulerson, Celina (6-5, 232)
http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/football/recruiting/player-Jake-Raulerson-116391
Seals-Jones happens to be a family member of legendary RB Eric Dickerson. He'll likely play TE in college. Raulerson will possibly be in that top tier of the 2013 OL class if he can put on some good weight. He's only a sophomore, so he's got some time.

I saw the thread on Shaggy Bevo yesterday about this. Just to clarify for everyone that's curious, Recruitocosm is NOT plagiarizing off of the stuff they see on here. I actually contributed some of what I know to that article and that's why it looks familiar. It's partially my stuff and they had my permission to post it. I haven't told y'all this, but I met the guys over there a while back and we've shared some info back and forth. I may do some daily or semi-daily work for them in the future but I haven't completely decided on that (yesterday was a bit of a trial run). It would be a combination of anaylsis, opinions and info from sources I share with them. I'd like to hear what y'all think about that. Either way, this thread will continue.

Some Monday morning updates to get us all caught up...
*Biggest news has to do with another DB popping up on the radar. DB Colin Blake of San Antonio Brandeis received not one, but two visits from Duane Akina on Wednesday and Thursday of last week. Blake has seen his stock rise throughout the spring and he fits the mold of your typical late bloomer prospect. About two weeks ago he had TCU and Texas A&M atop his list and wanted to make a commitment at the end of spring training, but with so many new schools (including UT) entering the picture, it looks like he's going to slow things down a bit. As most of you know, OU offered about two weeks ago. They're pushing really hard for Blake right now considering one of his good friends and teammates, OL Kyle Marrs, is already committed to the Sooners (he was their first commitment of the 2012 class). Anyway, Akina will be attempting to get Blake to Austin for the June 5th summer camp for further evaluation. With DB Bryson Echols and ATH Orlando "Duke" Thomas already in the mix at DB and considering both are under six feet tall, I'd imagine Akina really wants size for that last DB spot. If size didn't matter, a guy like DB Justin Thomas (who stands at about 5'9") of West Orange-Stark who has that "lock down" potential would have already received an offer. Blake measures at 6'3"/185 currently and presents that package of size and athleticism UT is looking for. In addition to that, Blake is very new to the game. His junior season of football at Brandeis was his first since middle school. He played strictly basketball his freshman and sophomore year(s). Here are the remaining candidates for that last DB spot:
Nelson Agholor, Berkeley Prep (Tampa, FL)
Daniel Brooks, Rockdale
Corey Coleman, Richardson Pearce
Ryan Reid, Sherman
Kendall Sanders, Athens
Justin Thomas, West Orange-Stark
Leo Thomas, San Antonio Sam Houston
Kevin Vaccaro, Brownwood
*Speaking of ATH Nelson Agholor...there's a rumor out there right now that Akina may want to ride this one out and not offer any additional DBs until he knows for sure that he doesn't have a shot with Agholor. I'm not so sure that's a smart idea seeing as how this appears to be a Florida/Florida state battle, but hopefully a visit to Austin is in the works at some point this summer. An interesting sidenote...Agholor supposedly has a teammate with family in Texas (not sure where) and he could make a trip with him this summer and somehow stop by campus depending on how close he is.
*OL Curtis Riser of DeSoto supposedly was dominant this past weekend at the Nike NFTC in Houston. He received MVP for the offensive linemen and won the majority of his match-ups during 1 on 1 drills. This is great news to hear considering he had his knee scoped earlier in the year and he's still recovering from that surgery. Riser projects as a guard at the college level.
*Major Applewhite made an interesting stop on Thursday. He went to evaluate DE Taiwan Johnson of Manvel. We haven't talked about Johnson in a while because UT's contact with him has been very limited and the staff has other DEs ranked above him right now. Despite Johnson's offer list growing what seems like every day, don't expect an offer to made any time soon. Here are the other candidates for that weakside DE spot UT is trying to fill:
Torshiro Davis, Woodlawn (Shreveport, LA)
Danielle Hunter, Katy Morton Ranch
Channing Ward, Aberdeen (Aberdeen, MS)
*Like DT Eddie Goldman of Washington, D.C., it looks like OL D.J. Humphries of Charlotte, NC is another out-of-state prospect we can scratch off of the list. According to Humphries' coach at Mallard Creek HS, UT hasn't made contact since early April when they had discussed a visit to see Humphries work out. He's made it known that he wants to play SEC ball so UT was spinning their wheels with this one. It appears the staff has already started focusing their attention elsewhere.
*Latest on OL Michael Starts of Waco La Vega...he came out for the first time last week and publicly mentioned that he prefers to play defense on the next level (many of us suspected that). He then followed that up by saying he's still willing to play wherever his coaches feel is best for him. Being that UT is the only school recruiting him for the OL specifically, you would think Texas' chances have decreased significantly. Not the case at all. He says Texas is still at the top of his list with other schools like Baylor and Texas A&M. Starts had the opportunity to have a phone conversation with Stacy Searels last Monday and they discussed his next visit to Austin which is supposed to go down some time this month. Darrell Wyatt is sharing this recruitment with Searels. UT has their two best recruiters on this one, so if UT ends up losing out it won't be because of a lack of effort or experience.
*More on DE Denico Autry of East Mississippi CC...turns out the offer he spoke of from Manny Diaz is not "official," but more of a conditional offer. He'll have to meet certain requirements (mainly grades) before he receives an invite to Austin. Autry's coach is pushing for him to get to Austin somewhere down the road, but understands that his GPA will be a big factor in determining his future. Autry plans on graduating in December and will likely be a candidate for spring ball at the next college he attends. He'll have three years to play two seasons and that gives him the opportunity to redshirt if necessary.
*For those that have been wondering, nothing new to report on ATH Kendall Sanders. According to him, he hasn't heard from the staff since Duane Akina and Darrell Wyatt stopped by his school a few weeks ago. Below is a good write-up from Recruitocosm explaining the latest on him and ATH Daniel Brooks of Rockdale:

I wanted to add that DB Colin Blake was excited when Duane Akina dropped by his school two days in a row. He was quoted saying that he knows how many DBs Akina has put in the league (three more this year alone) and he'd have a great opportunity to turn pro under his tutelage if he went to Texas. The Longhorns have some catching up to do on this one if they are serious about Blake.

Taylor is a 2013 DT that Texas will be after. He was also in Houston this weekend for the Nike NFTC. He already has plans to be in Austin for the June 5th summer camp. For those that didn't watch the Cibolo Steele/San Antonio Madison match-up last August on ESPN, Taylor was arguably the MVP of the game. He single-handedly controlled movement on the line that entire night.

I'm sure a lot of you noticed that QB Connor Brewer didn't make the list which seems baffling considering his resume. He didn't have a great showing at the Nike combine on the USC campus a while back, so I think these rankings are a reflection of that. He has some more camps he'll be attending this summer that will give him the opportunity to move up. Not a lot of love for QBs in general this year.

*TigerBait (LSU Rivals site) is reporting that DB Landon Collins received an offer from Texas last week. Just a refresher on him...Collins was the one who dropped the UT staff a line in mid April and he's been talking with Duane Akina ever since. He does have a desire to get to Austin in the future and that will have to happen in order for UT to have a chance. He currently has LSU and Alabama dead even as his #1 overall school of choice and said he'll be making his commitment at the 2012 Under Armour All-American Game because that date happens to be his birthday. Like I said before, this one will be an extremely tough pull for any school not named LSU because he lives so close to Baton Rouge and his mother apparently goes way back with LSU RBs coach, Frank Wilson. Wilson was the Rivals "2010 Recruiter of the Year", by the way.
*Another out-of-state DB has surfaced in the past couple of days. Many of you might have noticed his name being on the master list for quite some time, but DB Geno Smith of the St. Pius X School in Atlanta, GA is being pursued by the UT staff. He and Duane Akina have been talking to one another since February and Smith had the opportunity to meet Stacy Searels a few weeks ago when he stopped by his school to watch a workout. I'd imagine this was around the same time Searels was in Georgia to see OL Vadal Alexander. Smith has emphasized the importance of UT's track record for putting DBs in the NFL along with other great players they've produced and he's doing his best to sort out plans for a summer visit to Austin with his mother because he simply wants a chance to see campus. Alabama and USC were other schools mentioned as possibilities. Auburn is currently his leader after a recent visit to their campus, but Smith claims he's wide open and will do his due diligence. Besides being very talented, he's also known for being strong academically which is why his offer list is as long as my arm. Like Collins, UT will need to get him on campus to have a shot. It seems that UT is hell-bent on filling that last DB spot with an absolute stud.
"I'll go wherever in the country that's the best fit for me and opens the most doors for me. Texas opens a lot of doors," Smith said.
*OU continues to offer Texas boys. DB Ryan Reid of Sherman, and one of UT's candidates for that remaining DB spot, received an offer from the Sooners to follow up a visit by Willie Martinez and Brent Venables to his school last week. Reid is the third DB OU has offered in the past two weeks including DB Colin Blake of San Antonio Brandeis and DB DeVante Harris of Mesquite Horn (who committed to the Sooners on 4/29). Reid said this offer has propelled OU into his top two and they could possibly be his #1 school at the moment. His timeline for a decision is later this month or some time during the summer. Darrell Wyatt stopped by Sherman at the end of April, but things have been quiet between Reid and UT since that point.
*Duane Akina will be in Brownwood today to visit DB Kevin Vaccaro (current DB Kenny Vaccaro's little brother).
*I'll leave you with some interesting recent quotes from OL Kennedy Estelle.
"I think I'm going to end up in-state or somewhere around Texas," the 6-7, 300-pound Dawson High player reported. "It's a family thing. My dad wants me to go to Texas."
"They're (Texas) the one I'm looking at," he said. "I'd like to look at other schools, but I haven't talked to any other coaches. I'm always busy with track and I don't have the time to."
"Texas isn't my favorite, but they're on top right now," he explained. "It's safe to say they're leading. I want to look at some other schools, though.”
Estelle clearly isn't in love with Texas as much as his parents are and still wants to make sure he looks around in order to make an informed decision. I think it's one of those things where he wants to make sure it's "his" decision and not that of his mother, father, girlfriend, etc. With his busy schedule getting the best of him, hopefully he'll tire of the process soon and pull the trigger for the Longhorns. I know his parents aren't thrilled with the idea of making out-of-state trips on their own dime this summer. Even though this one is lasting a lot longer than most thought it would, the important thing to remember is the Estelle family is in UT's corner all the way.

I don't think he's cut ties with A&M just yet, but it wouldn't surprise me if he did because of the lack of contact from the Aggie staff in recent weeks, his legal problems and the other RB recruits they've already received verbals from. He also has other schools making him guarantees that A&M won't.

I wanted to metion this about 2013 DT Vincent Taylor yesterday, but I wasn't 100% sure. He is another prospect who moved to Texas from New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina. LSU is his favorite school, but he'll likely be a priority for Texas in the next class.

Didn't expect Tim Cole to be ahead of Jenkins, and very surprised about Brewer.
Jinkens has been tearing up the camp circuit the past few months. You'll probably see him jump Cole at some point when the updated versions of the list come out later in the year. The fact that Jinkens will be playing solely LB for Dallas Skyline this year will also help his case.

*Big news from yesterday is Bo Davis made a trip to Shreveport, LA to see DE Torshiro Davis. This was the second visit by the UT staff during the spring evaluation period (Searels visited in late April). Word is Texas is in a favorable position to turn Torshiro's LSU commitment because of Bo's recent recruiting efforts. It's important to remember that the two are very close from Bo's days at Alabama. He still plans to camp in Austin during the first week of June. IMO, he is the out-of-state prospect UT has the best shot with at the moment.
*Little more on 2013 DB Marcell Harris of Groveland, FL...he told GatorBait this week that Florida sits atop his list right now mainly because of his father (he was a letterman at Florida from 1994-97), but Texas is also right there because he's a lifelong fan of the Longhorns and they were the first school to come and out and visit him. Texas has invited him to camp in Austin this summer so we'll see if the Harris family will be able to make that trip.
*Kind of a non-update, but OL Andrus Peat has said he'll be narrowing down his list of colleges in the next two or three weeks. His next list will feature eight to 10 schools. You can be sure Texas will be on it. There's still talk about him making a visit to Austin this summer with QB Connor Brewer.

Crazy news this morning per 24/7 Hook 'Em...Bo Davis and Darrell Wyatt stopped by Crockett HS today to see WR Dominque Wheeler who the staff cut ties with shortly after the first Junior Day in February. Contact between UT and Wheeler started up again as early as last week. Gerry Hamilton doesn't seem to believe there is anything more to this than just a regular school stop, but having two assistants there makes me think otherwise. There are rumors of at least one current WR transferring out of the program (likely Greg Timmons), so this visit could have something to do with that. There's also been talk of WR Marquise Goodwin quitting football to train for the 2012 Olympics, but he continues to shoot that rumor down.

If you go back to a post I made on 4/20, you'll see that Darrell Wyatt was scheduled to be in Springfield, MO to check on WR Dorial Green-Beckham. There hasn't been much to report since that date, but it turns out that the visit never happened because it was re-scheduled for a time that Green-Beckham's father (also his high school coach) could be there to meet with Wyatt. Texas has made it a point to not make any visits or calls unless his father is around. He was scheduled to be in Memphis that day tending to his other son, Darnell, who is receiving cancer treatment at St. Jude. Anyway, Wyatt did make it to Missouri yesterday and the word is Texas is "squarely in the mix" along with three or four other schools (Arkansas, Mizzou, OU and likely Alabama). I know that the staff originally wanted to use their one phone call as a conference call of sorts between Mack Brown, Wyatt, Green-Beckham and his father. No word if anything like that went down, but I'll let you know. Looks like UT is in this one for the long haul.

Yeah, they're already at 22 (the total of their 2011 class). I can't help but feel like they're moving a bit too fast on certain guys, but they may very well want to wrap up as many as they can if they aren't feeling too confident about the bigger fish. Per OrangeBloods this morning, it looks like ATH Nelson Agholor will be visiting Austin in early June for Texas' summer camp. Nothing to get hyped about just yet, but having him make a visit UT is obviously a huge deal with him being a five-star, out-of-state prospect. Combine that with the fact that other commitments and recruits will likely be on campus at the same time, there's potential for UT to put themselves in a good spot. We'll likely hear more about this development after his high school's spring training is over and he can focus on his summer agenda.

More awesome news this morning...OL Andrus Peat of Corona Del Sol is yet another five-star prospect that will be in Austin for the June 5th summer camp. Some Monday morning stuff to cover our bases...
*QB Connor Brewer took part in the Stanford Elite 11 camp this past weekend. I've attached a story on the event below. Depending on what source you read, Brewer was arguably the most "polished" prospect in attendance. Words like "accuracy" and "intangibles" were used to describe his game throughout the event. Peformances like he had this past weekend should push him into the Rivals 100 eventually. Regardelss of his national ranking, UT is getting the best signal caller in the country for Bryan Harsin's needs.
http://sports.espn.go.com/ncaa/recruiting/football/news/story?id=6547312
*OL Michael Starts of Waco La Vega is still planning on making an unofficial visit to Austin this month, but as of right now he won't be attending Texas' June 5th summer camp along with the other 2012 commitments and key recruits. He'll be in Rockwall participating in Texas Tech's camp instead. It seems odd and not very smart on Starts' part to forgo the biggest UT camp of the year in favor of a smaller Texas Tech camp that's not even taking place in Lubbock, but that's the plan as of right now. I wouldn't go as far to say that Texas would stop recruiting him or anything drastic like that, but needless to say it wouldn't look good because the staff has made that June 5th camp date such a priority. Hopefully the coaching staff will emphasize the importance of him being there and things will change. Unfortunately, Starts' desire to play defense has been a thorn in Texas' side and leveled the playing field with other schools. He's simply a guy that's going at his own pace right now.
*OL Kennedy Estelle of Pearland Dawson has confirmed that he'll be in attendance for the June 5th summer camp. The end of school is drawing closer and there are still no plans for any out-of-state visits. It's no secret that Estelle's parents are none too pleased with the idea of making trips to Alabama and Florida State on their own dime (especially when they like Texas so much), so we'll continue to wait and see how this shakes out. Like I've said before, it wouldn't surprise me at all if those trips never happened. He'll be camping in Austin with the 2012 commitments before any of those unofficial visits take place, so maybe being around those guys, talking to the coaches, seeing the facilities and being on campus again will give him that nudge he needs to go ahead and pull the trigger. He's already admitted that he'll most likely end up in-state and that recruiting is difficult due to his busy schedule. Estelle was at the state track meet in Austin this past weekend but he didn't have the opportunity to meet with any of the coaches.
*A guy we've discussed before who was also in Austin this weekend for the state track meet is 2013 OL Jake Raulerson of Celina. He and his family had been in touch with the staff previously and set aside some time to drop by the coaching offices. They ended up chatting with almost the entire staff, had a one-on-one with Stacy Searels and even sat down with Mack Brown. He then took a tour of the facilites with Oscar Giles. He confirmed that he'll be camping in Austin on June 12th (a second camp for the younger prospects) and said Searels is expected to go by his school for a visit in a couple of weeks. Raulerson will likely be recruited at the national level next year if he can gain some good weight (he weighs in at 250 lbs). I wouldn't put him ahead of guys like OL/DL Darius James of Killeen Harker Heights, OL Kent Perkins of Dallas Lake Highlands or OL/DL A'Shawn Robinson of FW Arlington Heights, but he has a good shot to be in the top tier of OLs for the 2013 class. This recruitment could get interesting if any Florida schools were to enter the picture. Raulerson happens to be a Florida transplant who grew up in Gainseville and has family ties to the University of Florida.
*Speaking of OL Kent Perkins of Dallas Lake Highlands, he was scheduled to be in Austin this past weekend for an unofficial visit, but no word if that went down.
*More on JUCO DE Denico Autry of East Mississippi CC...he had this to say to UGASports (Georgia's Rivals site) this weekend:
"Two schools I know that will get official visits are Alabama and Texas," said Autry. "I will be looking to see what the campus is like and comparing which ones I feel comfortable with."
I still have a hard time believing the staff will pursue Autry seriously because of Mack Brown's disdain for JUCOs, but take that for what it's worth. If the official visit does take place, it won't be until later this fall. The UT coaches could decide it's not worth pursuing at that point depending on what the 2012 class looks like at that time. Autry has plans to graduate in December and will likely be able to participate in spring ball of 2012. He will end up having three years to play two seasons thus giving him the opportunity to redshirt if need be.
*The most random news of the weekend has to do with one of Texas A&M's biggest targets...DE Denzel Devall of Bastrop, LA has confirmed that he will be in Austin on June 5th for UT's summer camp. He decided to stop through because he plans on camping in College Station around the same time. I honestly don't know how serious the interest is from either party because this development is so new, but I do know that Devall was the one to initiate contact with UT when he called Bo Davis a while back. Follow me on this possible scenario...this visit could've been encouraged by DE Torshiro Davis' coach, DeCarlos Holmes. Holmes used to coach at Bastrop HS (where Devall plays) before moving over to Woodlawn HS in Shreveport. Seeing as how Holmes is such good friends with (Bo) Davis and is aware of the kind of prospect Devall is, he could've called Bastrop's coach and told them to contact Texas to see what they're all about. June 5th will be a huge recruiting day for UT, so we'll see if contact with Devall continues passed that point.
http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/football/recruiting/player-Denzel-Devall-98653
*Another interesting story I came across has to do with a second Texas A&M target in LB Dalton Santos of Van. Santos is currently listed as a "soft verbal" to Oklahoma State, but he's one guy who's seen his stock rise during the spring evaluation period. He was recently added to the 2012 Under Armour All-American Game roster and is seeing more and more schools come by his high school all of the time. In fact, Alabama really threw a wrench into his recruitment when they came through and offered last week. I'm going to go out on a limb and say Santos doesn't end up in Stillwater. Anyway, Stacy Searels visited Van HS last Monday for a regular school stop and learned about Santos being a lifelong fan of the Longhorns and how the previous UT staff literally paid him no attention (not even a letter). Word got back to Manny Diaz and he personally called Santos to apologize on behalf of the program for not giving him a more thorough look. He let him know that scholarships were tight at the moment, but that they were interested and he had an invitation to Texas' June 5th summer camp should he want to take a trip to Austin. While the chances of getting Santos to campus are slim, I thought this was worth mentioning because it speaks volumes as to what kind of guy Texas has in Diaz. He understands the importance of relationships.

Just to elaborate a bit more on OL Michael Starts...even if he doesn't change his plans to make the June 5th summer camp but still makes it to Austin soon for an unofficial visit, that could keep him in a favorable position with the coaches going forward (especially Mack Brown). From the eyes of Brown, it just doesn't look good for Starts when you have guys like OL Andrus Peat and OL Vadal Alexander flying halfway across the country on their own dime to attend the camp and he won't drive two hours from Waco. On top of that, he's going to attend the camp of one of Texas' rivals that same weekend in a city that's actually further away than Austin. It just doesn't make a lot of sense.

Update on ATH Daniel Brooks of Rockdale...UT has invited him to their first UT summer camp on June 5th, but there's still no word if he's going to jump on that opportunity. He wants to be assured a look on the offensive side of the ball before he camps anywhere and I think there's fear he'll get his OU offer pulled should he visit Austin in a couple of weeks. Right now he doesn't have much motivation to make a move one way or the other when he's comfortable with his commitment to the Sooners. Texas will continue to pursue this one, though.

Most of these guys will be living in the Jester Center which is located on E. 21st and Speedway (not sure if you're familiar with the campus yet). This guy is a great prospect. With A&M recently getting DE Jerald Hawkins from LA that brings the LA total for the 2012 class to 4. Sherman is really taking advantage of how LSU recruits there own state and is really recruiting it hard. A&M is also still in the running for Denzell Devall and Brandon Phillips who are very good players and Landon Collins who is an absolute beast out of LA . Surprised Texas hasn't recruited him harder.
As for our class filling up so early, I am loving it. I think we have about 26 scholarships to offer and we are at 22 right now and I think it is great because there isn't really 1 prospect that I don't like. Also, realistically a few of these guys probably won't make it to campus due to de-commits/academics and such. Sherman is doing an excellent job with this program right now.

Hard to know right now where Texas stands with Devall right now. I've seen reports from Aggie sites that directly contradict what is being said on Longhorn sites (surprise, surprise!). The kid is obviously interested in Texas to the point where he called Bo Davis to talk about an opportunity, but I don't know if he'll end up showing for the June 5th camp in Austin like he says. Lots of different storylines with him depending on who you ask. Alabama is now in the picture so that could really change things as well.

Deandre Daniels supposedly pushed his announcement to tomorrow. This is getting ridiculous, and the cause of it is most likely due to a disagreement with his father. Apparently Daniel's father favors Kansas while Daniels himself likes Texas (which is why he committed to Texas a while back). With all this uncertainty, even if he committed now it would be difficult to see him sticking with it. Regardless, lets hope he makes the right choice.

Stacy Searels and Major Applewhite were at Pearland Dawson today to check on OL Kennedy Estelle. Still status quo with him. 2013 RB James White was getting a look as well. He could end up being one of the priorities for next year's class.

Per OrangeBloods this morning, five-star DB Landon Collins of Geismar, LA will be camping with UT this summer. There's no specific date set at this time, but he will be in Austin come June according to his father.

I imagine he has an offer from Texas, right? I don't see one for him on rivals.
I can not stand parents who don't let their kid make the decision. Of course he has 1 and done written all over him, but we need him to replace Jordan.

Hard to know for sure. An LSU site published an article about two weeks ago and Collins was quoted saying he has an offer from Texas. UT usually goes through high school coaches to make offers, but Collins' coach said he hadn't heard from anyone on the staff about a scholarship. It's possible things went through his father. Knowing how UT operates, it may not be "official" but an offer with certain stipulations attached to it (i.e. showing up to Austin for a visit first). We'll see where things go if he gets to campus in June, but I don't view him as a realistic target at this point.

Nothing official until the autopsy, obviously. I read on an Oklahoma board that this was the cause of death...possibly snorting it. I know he's had legal problems along with injury issues in the past, so it's purely speculation at this point and people are just attempting to connect the dots. A drug overdose is thought to be responsible. RIP.

Stacy Searles made a stop at Arlington Heights HS in Fort Worth today to see 2013 DT A'Shawn Robinson. He's definitely of blue chip caliber and will be ranked nationally. He prefers playing defense right now, but the thought is he projects better as an OT on the collegiate level. I think that's where UT wants him. He will be camping in Austin on June 12th.

Saturday evening updates to get us caught up...
*DB Geno Smith of Atlanta, GA is another high-profile recruit that has confirmed he'll be visiting UT this summer. Ranked as the #47 prospect in the country by Rivals, Smith has said UT is on his summer agenda and he'll be attempting to make the June 5th camp in Austin. However, he doesn't have his schedule completely worked out yet and Duane Akina told him to make it in whenever he can. Smith basically said a visit to UT is now a matter of "when" and not "if." He's also looking to hit Alabama and USC at some point this summer. Auburn is currently in the lead for his services.
http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/football/recruiting/player-Geno-Smith-109646
*Manny Diaz made a visit to McKinney Boyd on Thursday to see a recruit that we've talked about very briefly on this year's thread. LB/DE Jamal Palmer impressed Diaz enough that he received an invitation to UT's June 5th camp and he's confirmed he'll be in attendance. I don't see Palmer receiving an offer any time soon because he's lower on the recruiting board, but it's nice to see the staff being thorough. They're definitely looking for a special player to fill that weakside DE spot.
http://rivals.yahoo.com/footballrecruiting/football/recruiting/player-Jamal-Palmer-89922
*Another name has surfaced for the OL...Stacy Searels and Major Applewhite were in Friendswood on Wednesday to evaluate OL Seaver Myers. He ended up receiving a camp invitation from the coaches and he's another guy we can add to the roster for June 5th. Myers could end up being offered down the line as a contingency plan of sorts should guys like OL Michael Starts not work out, but I believe the staff will wait a while on their main targets. OL Greg Brantley of Carthage and OL Tre'Von Armstead of Port Arthur Memorial are also guys the staff views as "Plan B" type of recruits. Both received invitations to camp at UT this summer, but no word if either will attend. Armstead committed to Baylor last week.
http://rivals.yahoo.com/footballrecruiting/football/recruiting/player-Seaver-Myers-120416
*Duane Akina was in San Antonio on Friday making the rounds and he ended up at Reagan HS to see 2013 OL Matt Beyer. He's a big ol' boy at 6-6/275 for only being a sophomore, but I'm not sure he'll end up in that top tier of OLs for the 2013 class. I think the staff has a few guys ahead of him in the pecking order right now. An interesting note on Beyer is he's from Minnesota originally. He could decide to head up north if give the chance to do so.
*OL Michael Starts of Waco La Vega added another big name to his list this week when USC extended a scholarship offer. No word at this time if they want him for offense or defense. The Trojans also offered OL John Michael McGee of Texarkana.
*DE Danielle Hunter of Katy Morton Ranch was offered by Nebraska earlier this month. He currently favors Missouri but has made it known that he prefers to stay close to home if possible. Oscar Giles has been by his school during the spring evaluation period but no confirmation if he'll be attending the June 5th summer camp in Austin.
*Some more 2013 names to get familiar with:
WR, Ra'Shaad Samples, Dallas Skyline (5-11, 165)

I wrote last night that DB Geno Smith of Atlanta, GA has had Auburn as his favorite school for a while, but I ran across this interesting tweet from him that he posted yesterday:
"So in the end, it will come down to Alabama, Texas, Notre Dame."
Smith supposedly wants to make a decision before school starts in the fall.

Correction on DB Landon Collins from earlier in the week...it looks like an unofficial visit in July is the more likely scenario for him. The staff obviously would like him in Austin for June 5th, but that's the latest.

Look at how well UT is recruiting off of a 5-7 season. Now, picture how dominant this new staff could be coming off of a season that UT usually enjoys at 10-2 or 11-1. :wow

A big-time 2013 prospect confirmed for Texas' June 12th camp today. DT Justin Manning of Dallas Kimball will be in attendance. He's thought to be a major OU lean right now because his brother, DeMarcus Granger, played on the DL for the Sooners from 2006 until 2009. Like DT Malcom Brown of Brenham, Bo Davis will have a recruiting battle on his hands. Manning is currently ranked #6 overall on the 2013 LSR.

Here's the entire 2013 LSR. I used a "thumbs up" for some of the recruits I think Texas will target next year. Two guys that didn't make the list (maybe due to a lack of film) that will be on there eventually are OL Alex Mayes of Van Alstyne and QB Chris Johnson of Bryan. Mayes is a stud and a prospect Texas may go after despite having two generations of TCU football in the family with his father and grandfather both playing for the Horned Frogs. QB Kohl Stewart of Houston St. Pius X at #91 will jump significantly in the future as well. Enjoy.

Sorry to be a little off topic but I figured you guys have answers. What is the best way to get season football tickets? I know of the all sports package, but I know that I will not be going to most of the games other than football. So are there football-only season tickets for students? When/where can I get these tickets?

Pop-
I'd call the box office at the stadium and ask them to make sure. I think there is an option for football only but the tickets aren't guaranteed even though you pay a fee up front for the entire season. The box office hands them out until the supply dries up. Instead of having an email version of a guaranteed reserved ticket sent to your UT account, you actually have to go down to the box office every week and draw tickets similar to what the public gets. For example, when Ohio State came to Austin in 2006, I waited in line for three hours for non-guaranteed tickets because I didn't pay the extra money for reserved seats at the beginning of the year. I'm probably being of no help to you, but the people in Bellmont can steer you in the right direction. They will probably give you the option to buy them while you're at orientation and setting up your email account.

SLX is spittin' fire in that thread, but he started getting bashed towards the end. I honestly don't know as I've never heard of that guy since I don't venture over there very often. It's very possible that SLX is someone from Barking Carnival or Recruitocosm who's trolling in order to drum up clicks for both sites. Even mods on pay sites have aliases that they use as attention getting devices to increase traffic and conversation so readers will think there are actual insiders present. Beauty of the Internets and the recruiting world as people want inside info that they can't get anywhere else. It's why newspapers are dying because the world moves too fast. You either believe what SLX brings to the table or take Scipio Tex's word from his post at #217 on page 5. As for me, I couldn't care less because all I want to do is write and talk UT football.

Article about Jim Delany's proposal to help scholarship athletes
http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/columns/story?columnist=wojciechowski_gene&page=wojciechowski/110525&sportCat=ncf
The power broker -- Big Ten commissioner Jim Delany -- suggested a plan that would bridge the growing financial gap between the value of a scholarship and the actual sticker price of going to school. That average estimated annual gap of about $3,000 would be given to the D-I player to help defray the costs of, say, transportation, clothing, laundry and pepperoni pizzas. It works out to a whopping $8.22 a day.

I hate to butt into the Auburn argument, but Auburn is recruiting some Texas targets, namely Kennedy Estelle, Andrus Peat and Geno Smith, so there is some relevance.
That being said Auburn fan can be annoying as hell. Check out a live chat on Rivals. Every other question is from some huge Auburn homer with a dumb ass handle.

I think TFloss posted on another page that he has a feeling that Estelle doesn't make the out of state visits. Estelle's parents love Texas, and a trip to Alabama or Florida would be very expensive. I think the fact that Estelle has only mentioned, not acted upon the OOS visits is telling. Kennedy might want to make those trips, but his parents might not.
Jesus and Tipsy have been steadfast in Estelle being a Texas lock for some time now. I haven't read anything to the contrary.
Personally, and this might be more hope than logic, I think Estelle will commit at the June 5th summer camp.
A lot of people believe Estelle is just as important as Johnathan Gray, and I couldn't agree more. Texas could build an excellent offensive line with Estelle as the cornerstone. Estelle would be the linchpin of the 2012 class.

No doubt he would, I am hoping also that he commits at J5. I seriously doubt we get any of these OOS guys though it would be nice to get at least one.
Peat and Estelle would be bookends for 3-4 years and with Gray and Brown in the backfield things would be looking good. I think Estelle just wants to be wined and dined by these big programs, in the end though I see him in burnt orange very soon.

Agreed, Theus, Alexander, and Peat could all be difficult for Texas to get. Theus and Coach Searels are close and Texas is rumored to be in Theus' top 5. Peat seems to be all over the place, but Connor Brewer is helping in Peat's recruitment.
There are a few more OOS OTs Texas is looking at. DJ Reader being the most exciting name. Reader's film, get ready to be wowed: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nXN-q1dkO9k
Reader's aunt and uncle live in Austin, and DJ has has visited them several times. Reader definitely has the all important "Texas ties" that Mack looks for in OOS recruits.
Searels went by Reader's school recently. Reader said in a recent interview that Texas was right at the top of his list. Reader's head coach said DJ was "enthralled" with Austin.
Reader could be a candidate for one of the OT spots, or possibly one of the DT spots if there is some attrition at the position.

Tipsy has an in with Reader's head coach at Grimsley High Damon Coiro, so stay tuned.
Reader is supposed to visit this summer, but likely won't make either summer camp. I think Reader deserves an offer regardless of what's going on with the OOS targets and Michael Starts. Texas would be very fortunate to get one out of Theus, Peat and Alexander.
Reader is ranked # 121 on the 247 Sports 247. He is listed as an offensive guard, but Reader's weight is going in the right direction. DJ said in an interview that he was down to 310.

I'd add that Reader is a freaky athlete. Reader ran a laser timed 4.85 40 at 325 pounds. Reader has lettered in football, basketball, track and baseball. Reader throws a low to mid 90s fastball, and had 3 stand up triples last season.
Reader is also an honors student. The complete package.

I think for Reader to receive an offer on offense, Coach Searels would have to project DJ as an OT. I think Reader is listed as a guard because of his weight of 325, which according to Reader is no longer accurate. There's also some talk that Reader is still growing, so he could shoot up a couple inches to a more preferred tackle height. Reader's current height of 6'4'' is widely regarded the minimum height for a BCS conference OT.
Agreed, Reader looks very good on defense. Searels did pass along his Reader findings to Bo Davis, and there's some talk that Reader will be evaluated at DT also.
Lufkin DT Tomme Mark receiving an invitation to the June 5th camp could be evidence that attrition at DT is expected. I won't speculate on names, but Bible and Cotton are frequently mentioned as possible attrition candidates. Mark and Mississippi DT Quay Evans are two DTs currently being evaluated by Bo Davis. Hopefully, Reader gets into the 4th DT mix.
There would be a greater need for Reader at OT should he sign with Texas. Elite college teams have a 4 man rotation at OT, so you need 4 good OTs.
Offense or defense doesn't matter, just get Reader on campus and let Bo and Stacy fight over him.

So is the Texas staff just waiting for Algolor and Collins to reject us before they offer Kendall Sanders?
Replace Kendall Sanders with Colin Blake and that sentence could be correct. I think Sanders insistence on playing WR eventually scuttles Texas' recruitment of Sanders. JS has held the Sanders' percentage at 60 %, and said the percentage would be higher if Agholor was a pipe dream. I'm not so optimistic with Sanders, I think he wants to play WR in college, period, end of sentence.
Akina loves Agholor and thinks Texas has a shot with him. JS thinks Texas has a 20% shot with Agholor, a good starting point. After Agholor's visit to Austin, I think that percentage goes up.
My optimistic guess is that Texas gets Geno Smith, whiffs on Collins and Agholor, and Colin Blake commits to Texas sometime in during the fall.
Some feel that Colin Blake is there for the taking if Texas offers. Blake has said recently that he might wait until his senior season to make a decision which is great news for Texas.

The Sanders interest is mutual. Mack likes Kendall Sanders, and Sanders parents like Texas. However, Sanders insistence on playing WR might be holding up the process. It's generally accepted that if Sanders called up Akina today and told Duane that he was decommitting from OK State and wanted to play DB, Texas would offer on the spot.
It's also a widely held belief that Sanders would commit on the spot if Texas offered him at WR.
It's not just me that thinks Texas has a legit shot with Geno Smith, Inside Texas' Blake Monroe has said several times that Texas is looking good with Smith.
It depends on who you ask where Colin Blake might be leaning. The marginally functional retards over at TexAgs believe Blake is an Aggie lean. TexAgs posters repeatedly have posted that Blake's father likes Aggie. Honestly, I think Blake is completely open at this point. Blake is just beginning to realize that he is a big time national recruit, and is slowing down the recruiting process.
If Texas offers , I think we fly to the top of Blake's list. Coach Akina really likes Blake. Duane visited Blake at his high school twice in two days during the spring evaluation period.

Hey guys,
I'm a new addition to Spurs Talk. I wanted to briefly introduce myself. I graduated from UT in 2009. I currently live in Dallas. I've liked the Spurs since the David Robinson era.
I follow Texas football and recruiting news religiously. I post often over at Recruitocosm and Burnt Orange Nation.
I've been following TFloss for about a month now, and I enjoy his work immensely. Great information and insights.

Well the real excitement lays with the unconfirmed June 5th campers. There's a lot of visits that need to happen this summer.
I have more confidence when the recruit gives a general time frame on when he might attend. Geno Smith and Landon Collins are both expected sometime in July.
Nelson Agholor has gone from confirmed June 5th camper per Orangebloods, to who the hell knows. I hope Texas does some coordination here, if the OOS targets can all make it down around the same weekend, Texas would be wise to host them all at once.
Peat is all over the map, who knows. Hopefully, Peat jumps on a plane with Connor Brewer at the last moment and makes it down. I'm yet to read an encouraging quote from Peat or his father about Texas. The glowing Texas comments have come from Peat's head coach.
When it's open ended like DGB, one has to wonder if a visit will ever happen.
I'd like to see Colin Blake at the June 12th camp if he's back from vacation. It's somewhat plausible that Blake ends up at Texas eventually.
TFloss any news on John Theus' summer plans? It would be amazing if Theus made it June 5th. Is Vadal Alexander no longer a possibility for Texas?
Javonte Magee lives in San Antonio, 80 miles from Austin. If Magee can't scare up a ride on June 5th, move on Texas. I've always thought "transportation issues" or "car trouble" are the biggest excuses in the recruit's playbook. Something tells me Gary Green is pulling the strings on Magee.
There's been some talk (some of it from TFloss) that Starts ship will sail if he doesn't make it June 5th. Regardless, Starts will have fences to mend soon after. If Searels extended an offer to an in state OT, it might get Starts attention.
The confirmed camper list has some interesting names, especially the DEs. It'd be hard for Texas to miss with Torshiro Davis, Devall, Palmer and Hunter. All are great looking recruits. Torshiro has the best first step, but all are talented. Jamal Palmer's new film is just as good as Devall's in my opinion. Very similar players in my mind.
I hope June 5th is the day Estelle commits to Texas. Good news that Estelle is confirmed.
Justin Thomas is a young man I hope Texas find room for. Thomas has the most impressive film of any 2012 in state DB I have seen this year. Thomas makes excellent plays on the ball in the air, and when he picks one off watch out because he's taking it to the house or for a huge return. Playmaker.
I believe the skill is there to overcome Thomas' lack of size, but grade issues are too much to overcome. I hope Justin improved his transcript this spring.
You wonder why Tomme Mark and Padilla have invitations and Lago Vista DT Donald Hopkins doesn't hold an invitation? Alabama recently offered Hopkins, I'd say they know a thing or two about DTs.
Myers, Brantley, Armstead and Meador don't do too much for me. I think Texas will eventually have to take one to round out the OT position in the 2012 class. Coach Searels knows his craft, he'll have a good idea of the best Plan B option after the camps. I personally like Armstead the best. Raw but everything is there to play LT at the next level.
That being said I wouldn't take any reaches in the 2012 OT class as 2013 appears to be deeper and more talented. Great news on A'Shawn Robinson camping overnight. Robinson could very well be a top 10 player nationally when it's all said and done.
Many, many exciting names in the June 12th confirmed list. It seems like nearly every top Texas target will be in town.
Coach Akina did a number on Marcell Harris on the South Lake class. Great news that Harris and his father are attending June 12th. OOS recruit brings his father to a summer camp, good sign.
I'd like to see Swoopes and Kohl Stewart at the same camp so the Texas staff could evaluate them side to side. Swoopes could be the priority as both Stewarts parents are Aggies.
I'm a little surprised that Kent Perkins isn't confirmed for June 12th. Perkins allegedly loves Texas.
A little back story, I graduated from Langham Creek High School in Houston. I don't think Feist will receive a Texas offer, but it's cool to see a quarterback, or any player from Langham being evaluated by Texas. It almost never happens.
Thanks for the lists TFloss. As you said these things tend to fluctuate constantly, we won't really know much until June 5th and June 12th.

As expected, Texas made John Theus' top 6 per Inside Texas' Blake Monroe. Texas is in Theus' top 6, and in Peat's top 13. Just sayin'.

Some more updates on certain individuals...
*OL Kennedy Estelle has confirmed for June 5th even though he's left a little wiggle room for June 12th because of his busy track schedule. He's a smart guy; I don't see him skipping J5 and missing out on being around the current commitments (and future teammates). A lot of you will be pleased to know that QB Connor Brewer, RB Johnathan Gray and WR Cayleb Jones talk to him all of the time through Facebook and email so he's not hurting for attention from anyone in the UT program. Status quo with him as far as out-of-state trips as there's still nothing planned. Maybe he'll get that itch to commit this weekend. Be patient with this one as he's a guy that want to make a decision on his own terms.
*Another name who has confirmed for June 5th is DB Justin Thomas of West Orange-Stark. I've said from the beginning that I didn't think the UT staff would go hard after Thomas because of his lack of size, but it also turns that he has some transcript issues that he needs to address. In addition to that, there's guys like DB Geno Smith and ATH Nelson Agholor that the staff simply wants more than him. The recruitments of the aforementioned prospects could cost Texas a chance with Thomas or even a guy like ATH Kendall Sanders, but I like the gutsy approach as the previous staff would've conceded these recruits to other schools early on in the process. I liken Thomas' situation to that of DB Quandre Diggs last year; he's Texas good and would be a household name if he were two inches taller.
*2013 QB Tyrone Swoopes of Whitewright received a second visit from Darrell Wyatt last week. I don't see why UT would make two separate trips to see Swoopes during the spring if they didn't plan on going after him hard in next year's class. His athletic ability is in a different stratosphere than Bryan Harsin has ever had the privilege of working with, so it'd be interesting to see how he'd fit into his offensive scheme. If you're looking for a guy that could ease the transition to a new signal caller once QB Connor Brewer leaves Austin, the UT staff may want to take a hard look at QB Kohl Stewart of Houston St. Pius X as he possesses a very similar game. With that said, Swoopes is just too good to pass up and I hope he's the main target in 2013.
*Although he has an invite to camp in Austin for J5, DB Colin Blake of San Antonio Brandeis will not be in Austin due to family vacation plans. There are a lot of rumors out there that's he's favoring this school or that school, but Texas would be in a good position here should they extend an offer. Everyone that saw him work out this spring raves about his size and ability and Duane Akina is a big fan. Like Thomas, he's a potential victim of the numbers crunch.
*Thanks to BFLT for bringing up this name and I'll add a little more to it. Stacy Searels was in Greensboro, NC last week to evaluate a new name in OL/DL DJ Reader. One built-in advantage that Texas has in this recruitment is Reader has an aunt that lives about ten minutes from UT's campus and he's been to Austin numerous times. He's always been enamored with UT and currently has the Longhorns atop his list of favorites despite not yet receiving an offer and having serious interest (and other offers) from SEC schools. Reader's coach claims that he can be had by Texas should they decide to go after him. A decision on an offer wil likely be made by the staff in the next few weeks. FYI...I've also seen him listed at 6'4"/315, so there's a debate on big he actually is. Searels also had the opportunity to stop in Charlotte, NC to check on OL DJ Humphries. This one isn't happening; he's SEC bound and has been for some time. Florida, LSU and Tennessee are some of his favorites.
http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncaa/football/recruiting/player-D.J.-Reader-115590
*You'll notice on the attendance list that yet another name has surfaced for the OL. Braden Meador of Montgomery will be in attendance this weekend after receiving an invite to J5 from Stacy Searels. Now, I'm not mentioning his name because I think he'll be a part of the 2012 class eventually; I can say with confidence that he probably won't be. What's interesting about him is what Searels told his coach while in Montgomery. Turns out the coaching staff plans on offering at least one more OL for this class. That's more than likely a good indication of where things are with OL Michael Starts as the original plan was to offer eight OL and take the first four to commit. If the staff begins feeling bad about their chances with OL Andrus Peat as well, we could see a second additional offer go out. This weekend will be a great opportunity for OL Greg Brantley of Carthage and OL Seaver Myers of Friendswood to show what their made of as one of their numbers will likely be called somewhere down the line.

I've heard that Estelle doesn't respond well to high pressure tactics. Brewer, Gray and Jones befriending Estelle is the right approach. Agreed, patience is the word on Estelle.
Agreed on the staff's approach of swinging for the fences on the OOS DB recruits. In the past, the DB class would already be full and there wouldn't be room for a Smith, Agholor, Collins, Blake or Thomas.
I think one can make an argument that Blake fits the Texas secondary better than Landon Collins. The 'Cosm's Tipsy Gypsie believes Akina is transitioning the Texas defensive backfield back to the 4 cornerbacks approach. Collins is a playmaker, but he's more Evil Roy Williams than the Earl Thomas safety / corner / nickel back hybrid.
While Blake is already excelling at corner at the high school level. Blake has man coverage skills.
Don't get me wrong, I love Landon Collins, but there's some speculation that he's an eight in the box type safety / OLB.
Agreed, Swoopes is likely the priority at quarterback for 2013. Stewart is damn good, but the MLB draft and the Aggie parents are obstacles.
If things are going sour with Michael Starts and Texas, and it would seem that they are, offer DJ Reader.
Myers and Brantley can and should be slow played. Armstead is maybe a take at the June camps if he shows up, impresses and is soft to Baylor. Agreed, Myers or Brantley likely end up at Texas at some point.
Coach Searels knows his craft. He'll make the right calls on the 2012 OT class. I hope Texas holds off on an additional OL offer until Reader has a chance to visit.

1.) I haven't read anything solid on OL John Theus other than what you wrote. I did see an article that mentioned he could possibly commit before his senior season should the vibe be right with a certain school such as Georgia or Florida, but the consensus seems to be he'll take all five of his official visits and Texas will likely be one of those mainly due to the Stacy Searels' connection.
2.) DT Javonte Magee is just waiting on that LSU offer. He recently stated that he, OL Ralphael Green and S Leo Thomas are a "package deal," but I'll believe that when I see it if the home state team comes calling. He reminds me a lot of RB Aaron Green last year in that he just doesn't have a genuine yearning to be at UT. We could see the staff go after him hard should a guy like DT Taylor Bible fall victim to attrition, but I'm not counting on him being a part of this class.
3.) OL Kent Perkins is a huge UT fan, so no worries there. He currently plans on attending Baylor and Oklahoma State summer camps on his high school campus this summer but he's not sure about other plans. No reason was given as to why in his last interview.

Good stuff TFloss. I'm not keen on universities holding camps at high school campuses. It's good for the universities, but not ideal for the kids. What if 2013 recruit commits at Tech's camp in scenic Rockwall without ever visiting the campus in Lubbock? It's a little disingenuous to me.
The bigger concern I have with the "remote camps" is what if Oregon or Alabama starts holding camps in Houston or DFW? That scenario could cause some problems for Texas.
I hope Texas' plan from Day 1 was to hold one ship for Theus or Peat until after the official visit period. Theus' possible intention of making all 5 of his official visits could be good news for Texas. Theus has gone from Georgia lock to taking his time. There's time for Texas and Coach Searels to get seriously in the mix for Theus.
Magee is a Louisiana native correct? Waiting on a LSU offer isn't surprising. One has to wonder why LSU offered Jerald Hawkins and not Javonte Magee. Same type of player, but Magee is much more talented.

http://blogs.ajc.com/recruiting/2011/05/25/geno-smith-says-leaders-are-notre-dame-alabama-auburn-texas-and-tennessee/?cxntfid=blogs_recruiting
Auburn probably has a better chance at him than they do with any of the guys Bill mentioned in regards to mutual recruiting targets. Auburn picked up a commitment from Joshua Holsey, who is a friend of Geno's. You can bet he'll be leaning on him early and often to commit to AU
Geno also attended Big Cat weekend, which has proven to be a great success for Auburn recruiting

As for Andrus Peat, we all probably need to wait and see who will emerge as leaders out of this 13 schools he's whittled his list down to
With his pedigree, I'm sure he'll be very thorough in checking out every institution he's interested in. I would guess we won't know with him until close/on national signing day, or at least until the big post-season camps

*One important thing that I forgot to mention this morning is things are officially on with five-star DE Noah Spence of Harrisburg, PA. Unfortunately the spring evaluation period ends today, so the UT staff won't have the opportunity to make a visit to Spence's high school. However, Oscar Giles called Spence's coach last week to inform him that UT was interested and Spence's father promptly returned Giles' call. Mr. Spence used the words "surprised", "honored" and "thrilled" at the fact UT was interested because he's been following recruiting for a couple of years now and knows that Texas doesn't usually venture outside of state borders (especially to call on a recruit in Pennsylvania). He also mentioned the great tradition of UT sending defensive lineman to the NFL. Noah also had the chance to call Giles last week and he was told that the staff would like to get him down to Austin for a face-to-face with Mack Brown. That's the plan as of right now, but nothing has been solidified. The trip would have to occur some time this summer or on an official visit in the fall. I'm telling you right now this is a guy that can be had if Texas puts in the work. His father is a no nonsense, parole officer that wants the best for his son. I can't imagine that he'd let him go to Ohio State or even Penn State where there's so much uncertainty at the top. Spence plans on announcing his decision at the 2012 US Army All-American Game and hopefully Texas will have a hat on the table.
*I also wanted to elaborate on 2013 QB Tyrone Swoopes. He's rumored to be a big fan of TCU right now as he already has an offer from the Horned Frogs, Texas A&M and Texas Tech. However, he grew up a fan of UT and Vince Young so I don't see him choosing a Big East school once the heavy hitters come calling. Color me surprised if he chooses to freeze his ass off while playing against teams like Pitt and UConn over natonal exposure in games like the Red River Shootout. Texas doesn't lose big-time recruits to TCU if they want them badly enough, so I don't expect that trend to change with Swoopes if Texas pursues him like they did RB Johnathan Gray.

Good news on Noah Spence. Texas sort of dropped the ball by failing to visit Spence at his high school during the spring evaluation period. It's a lot to ask of the Spences to fly down to Austin on their own dime when Texas has an ample recruiting budget didn't make it up to Harrisburg. A summer visit is a must for Spence. I hope Bo and Oscar stay on Spence and set up a visit.
Spence makes things very interesting for the possibly last DE spot. If Torshiro Davis is ready to jump ship on June 5th, Texas obviously can't turn him down. Spence would have to be a luxury pick up in the DGB mold. If Spence wants to come to Texas, you make a spot. Texas has done will with no nonsense fathers as evidenced by Malcolm Brown's recruitment. Brown's father is a veteran.
Texas should play up the Vince Young angle with Swoopes. I don't think Swoopes is the next VY, but Tyrone might think he is. Agreed, if Texas makes Swoopes a priority, we should get him. I'm glad to hear that TCU and not OU is the favorite right now.

Bill-
Should Texas offer a guy like Jamal Palmer or Danielle Hunter in the future (or even this weekend), I don't think that has any bearing on what's going on with Davis or Spence. I think both of those guys are recruited until the end and viewed as cherries to put on top of this class.

Thanks, homie. I hadn't seen you post in a while so I was worried that you had left. Stick around as I enjoy the SEC takes.
