Ehlinger is going to have to know how to pick his battles on those runs or we will see Buechele again. Clearly this offense must have an athletic QB. He got 20 back on his heels with the run over. IN another universe, where Buechele has a healthy line that can pass block, we may have seen very little of Sam.
And now we get OU; Pissed, but possibly vulnerable on D.
We deserved this win.

I’m thinking Ehlinger is going to make it very difficult for Texas to keep all their QB recruits.

Did Toenail Carter have any carries in the second half? Happy with the win, but he was the best RB tonight.

He kicked ass in the first half, probably averaged over 5 yards a carry

Vito, let me tell you: it’s 1:23 a.m. here in South Texas and I can confirm OU does indeed suck.

Wow, didn't realize this, but this has to be the #1 stat of the game. 91 offensive plays run with zero sacks and only one offensive holding penalty. Compared to the Maryland game this is progress.
Texas had 3 penalties for 30 yards
False Start - Offense (Cuney)
Pass Interference - Defense (Hill)
Holding - Offense (Vahe)
Pass Interference - Offense (Hemphill Mapps) Declined
Smartest in-game move by our coaching staff. - accepting the second holding penalty against KSU in 2nd OT pushing them back to the 37 yard line. This was not a given since on that play Texas held the running play to negative yardage. Most coaches would have taken the negative play, by accepting it, they were able to force a missed FG.

What is an adequate number? We started the season with 18 guys, lost two to transfer before the first game, and 6 are now injured, 7 if you count Shack. 18 linemen is the natural number to carry on an 85 man roster, might even be a little high.
Yes there was 18 Hodges was gone before fall and coaches should have known Major's condition. No attempt to shore up OL with JUCO [then Texas does have much sucess with JUCO's. IMO 17 or at least 16 would be adquate depth. Main problem IMO is most OL needs a redshirt year and that has not happened enough.

Makes no sense with carter. Seemed like he would get 6 yards, then he would be taken out for Porter. Kid shows a different gear, he can beat the defense to the sideline.

RB Keaontay Ingram talks about recruiting QB Tanner McKee and DE Joseph Ossai (OrangeBloods):
"We were on him pretty hard as a group," said UT RB commitment Keaontay Ingram. "We just told (Ossai), you know we want you, told him to go ahead and make the move but at the same time make the right decision for him," Ingram said. "We'll just have to wait and see. With the recruiting process, you never know."
"He's (McKee) a great guy. Great people. I feel like that’s what we need at the University of Texas. I feel like he loved it," Ingram said.

Quotes from QB Tanner McKee of Corona, CA after his official visit to UT this weekend (24/7):
“I will just say they made a great impression,” McKee said following his trip to Austin. “I loved the visit.”
“My favorite part of the visit was hanging out at Coach Herman’s house,” McKee said. “We shot hoops and played shuffle board. It was great spending time with the coaches.”
“They are ranked high as a public school,” McKee said. “They talked about ‘Forever Texas,’ which is a program that they have that gives players opportunities to learn from and meet business owners in Austin and in the state of Texas. It was cool."
“The Texas offense is similar to what I run at Centennial in a lot of ways. I think I could fit in very well.”

Big 12 is well represented on that list with 7 guys, 4 on offense and 3 on defense. SEC only has 4. Oklahoma, Clemson, NC State, and Washington State all have two guys on the team. Texas was robbed as there is no way there is another punter better than Michael Dickson, he is an absolute weapon.

I have to admit I was wrong about this freshmen class, outside of Ehlinger, I thought it was a total waste of a class.
Now I realize it was a very very underrated class. Below are the guys I have identified that are going to be contributors to the program.
Sam Ehlinger
Toneil Carter
Derek Kerstetter
Ta'quon Graham
Gary Johnson
Josh Thompson
So that is one third of the class that is already identified as being contributors. I still have high hopes for guys like Cade Brewer, Daniel Young and Kobe Boyce. When it's all said and done, this might be a heck of a class.

Bobby Brown the biggest name there. Don't know if it happens but we need to gain some ground here. Any DT takes need to check our roster and see that playing time will be readily available.

Hopefully UT plays very well and he'll push his November 2nd timeline back.
Otherwise, we're counting on him being the rare case where he picks Texas without an official visit.
As things stand, he will take an official to A&M a few days before making his decision. He'd have one left if he decides to hold off.

It's a forgone conclusion that Brown is going to be an aggsy. Besides, he is a guy that thinks he can sit during the Anthem. I know he is including Bama as his choices, but there is no way his offer is commitable.
I'd much rather go after Max Wright as a DE/DT, he is going to grow out of the 4-3 DE and would likely be a 3-4 Strong side DE or a DT. My guess is he will show up as a freshmen over 270 and by his junior year he will be close to 300. I'd say his future in the NFL would likely be at DT.
With 18 commitments and two likely de-commitments, We are probably going to sign 9 more guys.

I prefer 1 TE to another WR.
My picks are: Anthony Cook, Mustapha Muhammad, D'Shawn Jamison, Badara Traore, Junior Angilau, Ronnie Perkins, and Joseph Ossai.
If we lose the two commitments we have, my preference is: Cameron Wire, and either Max Wright or Dashaun White.
Of course much of my thought on Aggie commitments centers on if Sumlin is fired or not. I still think he gets the Axe, but there is an outside shot he saves his job.

Anyone know what Taylor Hamm had to say about him? I saw a tweet mentioning that his crystal ball for BB was foggy or something like that.

This ^^^^
Wood-Anderson will be tough to hold on to, especially if Alabama keeps pushing hard and we keep avoiding TE play.
Adeoye is an Orlando's guy. Especially since he coached his brother a few years back. Only way i see him looking is IF Orlando moves to a head coaching gig and I think that's at least another year away, IMO.

Quotes from LB DaShaun White of Richland after receiving a Texas offer (24/7):
“It’s been a long time coming," White said. “I’m really happy, and it’s a big one. I camped there for a reason. Leaving there without an offer left a chip on my shoulder. Now that I have it, I can actually consider Texas as a possibility.”
“It will really depend on the coaching situation (at A&M)," he said. "Everyone knows that if that staff leaves, I think I’ll have to get out of there too. When I committed to them, I knew that would be a possibility.”
“I just want to see the defensive mentality (of Texas)," he said. "I think I excel in a defense that makes plays and has fun. There’s something different about those kinds of defenses that are truly successful. I’m looking for the attitude and mentality.”

That would be a scary hire for us from a recruiting standpoint. Franklin is killing it up at Penn state on the field and in recruiting. I think Texas flirted with him but ultimately chose Strong. I remember thinking boy I hope we got this right and unfortunately we did not.

It's funny, all the names were were throwing around during that first round of hires after Mack, yet when it came down to it, we cut it down to two guys.
Charlie Strong and James Franklin.
We had a 50% chance of getting it right and still screwed up. How badly did we screw up? Our AD interviewed Charlie Strong and was so impressed he called Franklin and cancelled the interview. He didn't even give Franklin a chance.
Damn, I'm glad he is gone.
I agree, If A&M landed Franklin, he would be a home run hire, however, it's not something to worry about, they would still find a way to screw it up. Aggsy would screw up a BLT sandwich if you spotted them the Bacon and Tomatoes.

OU will attempt to take his head off on runs. Keep Buechele ready. It must be very touchy to tell your freshman QB he is showing great toughness and physicality and then tell him to be smart and judicious with those runs.(And not telling your Sophmore he is not athletic enough given our line). Heard better get some reps every week. We are entering games with a large number of total plays. No more injuries, please...

No way PSU falls apart. If we're hoping Franklin doesn't end up at aggie I think the best we can do is hope Sumlin continues to have a respectable season so that he's retained. Kind of odd, I know...Sumlins basically where Strong was late last year: finish strong- retain your job, fall and crumble late- there's the door.

What ever freshmen awards there are out there, just give them to Sam now. He has the "IT" factor that this team has been missing.

He is a more muscular version of McCoy hopefully.
But he is getting hit way too much too early.
Our offensive line just stinks. We could have been called for holding more than we did. I do not want Sam getting killed. Buechele is a sitting duck back there. He can't run as well and he clearly can't feel the pressure coming like Ehlinger. Who wants to die back there...
This team is definitely better than what Charlie put together with no real RB. But this conference is way too tough this year. We are in for some more close losses. And without Ehlinger, blowouts.

1. Kick the fucking field goals
2. Don’t put your concussed quarterback back into the game
I totally agree about the fgs, but our kicker sucks. Why can't we find a good kicker?

I don't know who was faster or who is faster, what I see from these first 6 games is Shane tends to run looking for when he will slide almost like he is scared, while Sam runs with purpose and looking for who he is going to hit. Basically, Shane is tentative while Sam runs with purpose.

Sam is huge in the proper places. His F'N thighs... He is like a FB. They are not even close athletically IMO. In fact, I'm worried if Sam grows anymore he might be moved to LB or a TE.

He has only taken an official to UCLA this season.
Whether or not he picks Texas, the plan has always been for the staff to bring him in for an official after the season ends.

Three things from the game:
1. We have our QB for the next 3.5 years (Hope Shane sticks, but doubt it)
2. OL play is horrible
3. Boyd struggles way to much. (Josh Thompson please)

4. Roach had a great game and seems to have found his place on the defense.
5. Our receivers are going to be great for the next 5 years.
6. We have got to find a kicker our coach can depend on. There is no reason for us to go for it like we have.
7. Dickson might be the best punter to ever play at Texas
8. We were two plays away from closing out that game with a win. One play if Sam pass to Dev Duv is on the money.
Final thoughts: If I'm a DC I am bringing all my blitzes from the right side as Sam is horrible when he has to scramble to his left. This is something Sam really needs to work on.

On the first blOwU touchdown pass, I don't think Boyd could have covered him closer. Boyd was beat but the pass was late and it gave him time to recover, he was in perfect position to make a play but just missed it. You really can't ask for better coverage, he was where he was supposed to be and just missed the ball.

WR Jaylen Waddle quotes (24/7)
“I mean, they are pretty high on my list right now,” Waddle said. “I really do love Texas. I love the coaching staff more than anything. I also love what they’re doing with the slot. They showed me past stats, and they had crazy numbers.”
“I’ve been talking to Coach Herman and Coach Mehringer,” Waddle said. “It’s been great. They’ve been keeping in great contact with me. I’m definitely going to try to make an official visit there.”
“I got a lot of friends there,” Waddle said. “We are always talking to each other. Me and Brennan (Eagles) talk a lot. He tells me about the future. Al’vonte (Woodard) is recruiting me the hardest. With him, it’s all about championships and how we can make Texas great again.”
Waddle made an official visit to Florida State earlier this month. He is scheduled to see TCU and Alabama in the next two weeks. He plans to make a decision later in the recruiting process.

FWIW, EJ just CB'd CB Anthony Cook to Texas. States that if Texas is not a complete "train wreck" on the field against OK state and Baylor, more than likely he will pick Texas in a couple of weeks when he commits. He was totally blown away on his official visit and the coaches won over his family.

Locke and Boyd seem to be having the most trouble imo. In fact so much so that I might suggest a little more Bonney spelling them. Also, Charles O. really needed to tackle Mayfield. He was there. Malik had trouble as well, only barely got touches on Baker with 3 paths.
