I'll follow up if I see anything else.
OrangeBloods has confirmed that Green broke his collarbone.
He's probably done for the year.

If Texas somehow miraculously pulls in Anthony Cook we need to have all the Houston commits host Mustapha and Max Wright on their visits. If in fact they end up visiting. Seeing all the star power out of their hometown Houston will really get them thinking. I think it won't hurt with Waddle either, he'd love to finish off this class.

There is a lot of bashing of Tim Beck on some of the Longhorn fan sites, but I just dont get it?
We are starting a new system and it always takes 4 weeks to really start to grasp the system, and guys on those sites all seem to think our coaches have never coached a day in their lives.
Truthfully I think Tim and Tom have done a fantastic job with all things considered. It would be nice to have a veteran oline that is healthy, but we have lost 8 guys to transfers and injuries, you just have to suck it up and do what you can, and that is exactly what the coaches have done. Some of the play calling have been genius, others have sucked.
Texas has played the two toughest teams they will play all year and came up two plays short of being 5-1 on the year.
This team is salty and I'm excited for it's future, I am 100% sure Tom Herman is the guy to take Texas back to the top.

Well, some stuff is frustrating to see. You rarely see slants or quick routes over the middle - I understood that for Shane since it seems like he can't see over the line, but with the line being how it is it seems it would help. Carter isn't getting anywhere near enough carries while Porter sucks. Ehlinger is great, but 22 carries? He won't make it more than a couple more games at this rate.

The title is misleading.
It's about Herman and Coach Washington linking up with well-known DB trainer, Clay Mack, and getting acquainted.
He's worked with several names, including S Jamal Adams and CB Jeffrey Okudah.
He also trains five-star CB Anthony Cook.

I'm not getting that warm and fuzzy feelings here Tfloss. How do you see this one playing out?
This is one I genuinely don't have a feel for since the timing is odd for both Michigan and Texas, and Clemson would be a shocker.
Muhammad hasn't been to Michigan in six months or Texas in three months, but he's all of a sudden ready to make a decision.
I do think UT has several things working in their favor...
-proximity to Houston.
-his mother is a UT grad and a doctor, so education is a big factor.
-almost all of the elite players, and his friends, in Houston are going to UT.
-Herman has pulled off several recruiting surprises already with Rising, Rondale, Wood-Anderson and possibly Cook at the end of the month.
-speaking of Cook, does Muhammad's timing have do to with the fact that UT has recently jumped out in front with him? Could Muhammad know Cook is going UT and that's helped him make a decision?
Everyone is still thinking Michigan, however.

Holy crap he is choosing Stanford.
Seriously, if he thinks Michigan offers a better education than Texas, he is sadly mistaken. That state is about to have it's lights shut off. Michigan was a great school but they are in serious budget crunch and it is affecting a lot of what was once taken for granted.
Making a 40 year decision would be looking at what the Alumni can do and the connections they offer down the road. Unless he wants to live in New York, Chicago, or Michigan, I don't see where UM has any advantage over Texas.

Pardon my language, but I am fucking pissed. Beck called a shitty game, the OL blocked horribly, the WRs were too scared to catch the ball, and Sam made so many mental errors, especially the final pass.
We had some success running up the middle, but none running wide......yet we continue to force the issue wide with no success.....that 2nd and short late should have been a dive play to warren, not a sweep.
I am so sick of this team refusing to attempt a slant pass. They are a QBs best friend, but we don't use them. Instead we run tons of no gain wide receiver screens.
I feel so bad for this D. They deserve a far better effort from the O.
Vito Corleone
10-21-2017, 03:03 PM
It all boils down to one thing. Our line sucks balls. It's so bad that there is no words for how shitty they played.
Coach Beck now needs to realize the Big 12 has caught up with Sam Ehlinger, he isn't going to get away with running the ball all the time. Someone on the offensive line needs to grow some balls or move on to UTSA or Texas state, they aren't ready for P5 football.

The play calling and playbook gets whittled into nothing when you can't block. Our receivers did not help. In this offense you must catch everything if you actually get a pass off coming your way. Okafor, 78, is absolutely awful. Any speed on that side and he is done. One thing I have learned from this season is you must coach deep as well and you must recruit deep, no favors. Walk ons, they gotta be able to play. USC has had the same problem with their O line. And many on D as well.
We would have been blown out if they had not fumbled and we turned that into a touchdown. They also dropped an easy TD pass. I'm not falling for the close score thing. They toyed with us knowing we could not move the ball. If you ask yourself, which team was most likely to blow the other team off the field it was OKST. They were much better, without their left tackle. Credit to Gundy, he knew what he was up against.
On D our cornerbacks played outstanding when having to do so much more in the running game (because we played 2 and more, very deep). Hager and Johnson both played well. Our soph safet, on that long pass, getting turned around AGAIN and not getting close to recovering... He appears to be stuck with the same bad habits.
TCU is going to absolutely murder this team. Patterson will watch this current offense on film.... Salivate. Massive cleanup effort in Fort Worth ensues.
This offensive line has to get better very quickly. I don't blame our backs for tip toeing into what seems to be a hole. It's an illusion.

Those UT fans who have remained faithful, give yourself a par on the back. We are supposed to be, at the very least, a top 10 program in NCAA football history. For at least the last 7 years you have endured the horror of extreme suckage. It's much easier to root for a program where not much is expected. Rooting for what is supposed to be a top program that continually screws up, its tough.

If this staff is putting Ehlinger's health at risk by running him like they have then they need to step back and take a hard look at their priorities. Sam is one year out of being in high school and if they keep running him like this they are going to turn him into David Ash 2.0.

Pocket?
Have we actually been able to form a pocket? There is really nothing you can do on offense with an offensive line as bad as ours. Someone is gonna die, or just fall down before they are hit.

i've only seen a few moments of each of the games so i haven't seen what the pass protection looks like, but i do know herman loves to run his QBs as he did it at OSU and also at UH. how bad are the RBs that he chooses to have the ball in the QBs hands so much? or is it that the O-line can't get any push?

No push unless they are goaliine and can close the gaps. Even then it's not good. This is the telltale sign of an offensive line that can't move their feet. Warren had 3 nice runs against ok st. One was a clear hold Off left tackle, called. Another was a hold not caught. And the last that worked... Ok st linebacker was lost. The other running plays just get no blocking. Hell, d lines get Sam when they rush 3 and leave the house against the pass. It's awful. The worst I have ever seen.

RBs aren't the problem, it's the offensive line. Texas started out the year with 18 scholarship offensive linemen. During preseason, Texas lost Jean DeLance to transfer to Florida, and Brandon Hodges to transfer somewhere else. Then Texas has lost 3 starters and 1 backup to either season ending injuries or out indefinitely. Including the one guy on the line we could not afford to lose.
Today we have found out that our starting center is in the concussion protocol.
Seriously, can things get any worse for this group???

Beck isn't the problem, I don't know why so many want to blame him. Watching our offense with no line is like watching WWE where 3 guys jump into the ring against 1 guy.
Except there is no script and our one guy Ehlinger is either running for his life or just getting killed.
Has there been some bad play calls, heck yea, but it's to be expected. Every play that doesn't work is a bad play. Every play that does work is a great play. OSU had a great game plan for stopping Ehlinger, and it worked. We won't have to worry about that this week since he ain't likely to play.
I'm telling you guys, every time we run a pass play and the QB has more than 3 seconds, it's a win for the oline. Every time we run a running play for more than 4 yards is a win for the oline. In the last game we didn't see too many Oline wins. moving forward, outside of what is going to be a terrible TCU game, I expect to see us start to look much better in November. last 6 games we should go 4-2. People will begin to feel much better about this team. Hopefully we face one of those crappy SEC teams with no offense and an overrated defense.

It's terrible game planning and play calling by Beck and the staff. To say he isn't the problem is complete ignorance on your part.
I think my favorite Tim Beck call on Saturday was running Warren on that outside zone on the 2nd and short in the 4th. Next up would be the three incomplete passes after Warren rips off a 15 yard run.
Out of context, but your "there is no script" quote could not be more true about Beck's plan for the offense thus far. Dude doesn't have a clue.
Vito Corleone
10-23-2017, 10:02 PM
Nothing against Warren, but him getting 15 yards on that run was nothing more than a fluke. We average 2.7 yards per carry, I'm not giving him the ball beyond using him as a change up.
As I said if we throw the ball 3 times and connect on those passes then Beck is a genius, but we don't so he is a dumbass.
I will be the first to say I hated the last play where we threw the interception, but fact is Heard was open and our freshmen QB didn't see him.
My only issue with Beck is how he is using Ehlinger, he is going to get him hurt by letting him run so much. Other than that, this offense will win us a lot of ball games once we can start to block like we have a pair.

Oline sucking is a given, yet we see slow developing outside runs and no quick routes over the middle despite having multiple tall receivers who could get inside position on routes like that. It may or not be Beck, but you giving him a pass for calling multiple runs for Ehlinger outside despite being up in the booth and not seeing shit is weird.

10-24-2017, 07:21 AM
I can't blame play calling at this time with no offensive line. Opposing coaches watch film and game plan. It's pretty obvious Ehlinger must be contained. It's just not easy calling plays. And if you are watching on the tube, quick routes over the middle are turnover dreams. We can't adequately see safetys creeping up, etc... We are simply trying to stay in games right now, not eliminate any chance we have to be in a game. Our receivers are not making great catches right now, they just are not. No bobble clean tough catches are not the norm for this team. So I simply don't trust the passing game either, especially, especially, in traffic.

This is legit and will be very tough from now on. Maybe seeing Sam sit and Beuchele back on is a blessing in disguise. You watch film and it's pretty obvious we have very few alternatives for moving the ball. We really need our receivers to make extraordinary plays consistently IMO.

There may be something to this because Tom is now putting Mehringer up in the booth with Beck, so we might see some changes to what both guys are seeing. I also agree with the idea that we aren't utilizing our players efficiently. That might be more related to still getting to know these guys or the rotation is just off tilt to the play calling. I don't know, but that is something that needs to be fixed.
I know that the most effective plays we run are quick hitters that don't rely on the oline to keep their blocks, but if all we ran was quick hitters then we basically are asking the defense to only defend 20 yards of the field at one time. You can't make it easy on the defense, they have to know they will pay for playing close to the line.
I also get why we don't utilize the middle more, it's the scary part of the field for our coaches since that is where most interceptions go and our QBs don't see it as well. This team can't give up a ton of turnovers and win the game, we play conservative and play field position with a solid defense. We do that and we win ball games, if we try and get crazy we will end up giving up turnovers and letting winnable games slip away. The fact that we have lost 3 winnable games is a testament to the fact we kept ourselves in the game and put us in a position to win.

Update on QB Cameron Rising of Newbury Park, CA after his official visit to UT (24/7):
“The visit was great,” Rising said. “The parts that stood out to me were talking with the coaches and the players. I got to talk a lot to Max Cummins and Jordan Pouncey. The only bad part was the loss.”
“It’s definitely got an attractive look with the quarterback situation being an up for grabs kind of deal,” Rising said. “I’m ready to go in there and compete. I’m really excited, and that’s putting it lightly."
“When I get there in January, I’m going to really work on understanding the game plans and why Coach (Tim) Beck makes the calls he does and learning the offense.”
“They were just telling me how happy they are to get me on campus,” Rising said. “They want someone that can extend plays and make all the passes. They want someone who can do what both Shane (Buechele) and Sam (Ehlinger) do rolled up into one person.”
“I feel like the visit strengthened my commitment a little bit,” Rising said. “I liked that I got to spend more time with the coaches and the players. But schools like LSU, Michigan and Arizona State are still talking to me.”

Thankfully 24/7 has been receiving lots of complaints and it should look much better.

24/7 reporting CB Anthony Cook has not made up his mind before the Monday announcement.
It's down to LSU and Texas, with Ohio State a distant third.
It's still possible he won't announce for a few more weeks, but it can't go on for much longer since he's an early enrollee.

Our D is amazing. Elliott and Hill remind me of Ross and Vasher, brings a tear to my eye. If only Elliott catches the one he dropped vs osu, we probably win that game.
Our kicker sucks, our ol sucks cause of injuries, we are using freshmen rbs, our wrs have underwhelmed, but our punter and d have been outstanding.

Man may not be a good thing for the good guys huh? Everyone says he's looking for a reason to stay home I think he may be looking for a reason to justify leaving home. No other team can boast the connections Texas has for Cook. We currently have 2 DB's on roster from Houston Lamar in Holton Hill who's had an unbelievable season and John Bonney whose had a resurgence here of late. Not only that you'd be coming in with 2 current teammates in Jamison and Woodard. In looking for comfortability and a sense of home, I can't think of a better situation. I'll stay cautiously optimistic.
