I'd say OLine is more than a start. 3 Top 300 O-Linemen and 1 JUCO commit. That's 4 offensive linemen committed not to say we should be done but pretty good for late December. DLine is what has me worried how do we not have any defensive linemen at positions of great need. Wish Giles could recruit like the rest of the staff. Would have been nice to see Coburn sign. If we can somehow hold onto him and get lucky with the Katy kid, teams are coming after him very hard. There's still guys out there: Bobby Brown, Ossai, Vernon Jackson...

My class 2018 highlights:
5. That month when Epps, Ghirmai, Eagles, Jamison, and Coburn committed within a month. What a month! Even supplied us with Kool-Aid and a false hope about the upcoming season... ALIGNMENT. Anyways, if Herman wants to continue signing elite classes, he'll have to hold elite summers. Getting all those players committed before the season started was huge for what happened last night.
4. Keeping Dele Adeoye. Every time a player from OOS commits, I take it with a grain of salt. This one seemed unreal up until he signed last night. Actually, I thought that he was gone after that OU visit. In my mind, he was gone up until his OV when things seemed like they were gonna be ok. Even last night, I was nervous.
3. When Cade Sterns committed. I was so bummed out when he committed to LSU when Strong was around. Then that student took that picture and we went nuts. How the fuck did he flip him from LSU I'll never know but it was such an exciting moment.
2. Anthony Cook completes the greatest DB class of all time. For months we've all been dreaming of the ultimate DB class and many of us thought that it was not going to happen. I mean, why would Sterns,Jamison, Green, Overshown, Foster, and Cook (who are all elite) sign to the same school? We knew that we were getting the majority, but all? NUTS!! Fucking NUTS!! I thought that getting Cook would be next to impossible while holding to the other five.
1. That week when two QBs committed to Texas. I remember that I was writing a paper for grad school on a Saturday afternoon when I got the news that Rising committed to Texas. I couldn't go back to writing my paper for two hrs bc I was so distracted. Then rumors that Thompson may look around made all of us nervous. Herman keeping these two engaged and committed is such an accomplishment. Did Mack ever pull this feature?

Excited to see if the staff continues to go after experienced OL, and it sounds like they will because Herman said yesterday they simply don't have numbers right now.

I wonder if this is simply by default because of the state championship game Carthage will be a part of tomorrow. May be a bit much to expect him to focus on competing in the game over filing his commitment when he's so far from home. Just being hopeful but the early signing period does end tomorrow and their game is from 11am-2pm.

Excellent.
Keep em coming. When we have depth a year or 2 from now...
I learned a big lesson about depth with all of our injuries last year. My father, an ardent UT fan undergraduate and UT law grad, said he had never seen such a bad line as last year. From way back. Maybe the play calls tested beyond ability, I don't know. I can't imagine being an RB and having to adjust stride first step. Lucky we had some young guys that might not have known any better. Warren, who has to be given time to get up to speed, suffered greatly IMO. He did learn something about his abilities though. If he plays at the next level, he's gonna have to get even better at blocking and catching the ball. There is room for that Hback/TE type.

I think what it really all comes down to these days, is that some kids can't handle the "tough love" they need or "constructive criticism". Herman isn't playing any games with these kids, when it comes to the culture he is trying to change with-in the program.
It's going to take a few years to get everyone on board and we'll see kids come and go, many who can help us on the field for sure. We've already seen that. Anyways, my 2 cents.

So, I guess the starters on O will be:
QB - Shane
RB - D. Young/K. Porter
WR - Combos of C. Johnson, A. Foreman, J. Heard, L. Joe, R. Mapps, J. Burt, D. Duverney
TE - Moore and that's it
Oline - Rodriquez, Vahe, Shack, McMillion, Kerstetter
Backups for Online - Okafor, Nicholson, Cunney
I still think that's a team that can compete against Mizzou.
Defense will take a hit, but Freeman, G. Johnson, Wheeler, McCullough, Hughes can handle the LB spots. D. Davis, Boyd, A. Davis, J. Hall, PJ Locke, B. Jones, J. Thompson and maybe C. Brown can man the secondary. Defense should still be solid.

Playblair just needs to come out Aggie and quit the little petty troll snippets I don't wanna see when people quote him.
Otherwise, ignore IMO. Aggie has taken a thorough butt whipping in Texas. But honestly it's to be expected with the change. I have a feeling Jimbo and crew will do just find in Texas once established and still do well in Florida. Not good for us except they will still be chanting SEC and basking in how good the move was while winning nada...

That's bad but it takes time to establish yourself in recruiting. Relationship building is vital and I wouldn't judge based on 1st year results especially in an early signing period.

Highland Park over Manvel
Game was completely nuts.
Manvel seem to score on 1 play "drives" thereby totally wearing their defense out the 2nd half.
Manvel QB had to have close to 500 yards on less than 20? completions. The Jones kid had around eleventy billion yards to his 6'5" receiver. ( Jones kid had to have close to 600 yards if not over)
Totally nuts.

Great game I hope more of you were able to catch it if not make sure to see the re-runs. Manvel has 3 ags committed, seems like they'd close out the win over HP. Ag WR commit Jalen Preston of Manvel was tackled at the 1 yard line for potential game winning TD to end the game.

Oh absolutely. Crazy how close he was to scoring on back to back plays doesn't get much closer than that. I was thinking the same about the HP kid. He caught just about everything. I bet he'll be a TE at the next level kind of like a Cade Brewer.

Inside Texas: Ingram talks state championship, teammates, and commitment to Texas
Back-to-back.
That's all Carthage RB, Texas commit Keaontay Ingram has thought about in the last week. Not signing early, not Christmas shopping, and not anything that distracted his team.
After his 162-yard, 3-touchdown performance in Carthage's 49-21 win over Kennedale, it was the Bulldogs' 6th state title.
“It means a lot,” Ingram said. “But it’s not about me. This was a team effort. We got this as a team.”
A lot has been said about why Ingram didn't choose the new Early Signing Period to ink with UT. It's really quite simple.
“I want to sign with teammates,” Ingram said. “I don’t want to be an individual guy. I don't really have a lot of interest in other schools, but I’m going to listen to what they have to say.”
As for his commitment status, it remains solid.
“I’m pretty solid to Texas,” Ingram said. “It’s just about the coaching staff and what they bring to the game. You see the people we’re signing. We’re all on the same page. It’s not going to be a rainbow at first, but it’s part of it. But will build it back."
The only two schools really pushing right now are USC and Texas A&M. Arkansas is trying to get him on campus too.

Someone may be able to sum it up better than I can, but...
Chip published a scathing article about the football program on Tuesday (one day before National Signing Day) talking about locker room problems, poor culture, unhappy parents, etc.
One of the sources was supposedly Buechele's father and his name was in the article.
The timing of the article in particular received a very bad response across many sites and Burton proceeded to say he didn't proofread the article before being published nor was he aware of the content.
He admitted the timing was poor because recruits were signing 24 hours later, but he doubled-down on everything saying it was 100% accurate and Chip even left out important info, even though they ended up retracting the Buechele info.
They're both being pretty pompous about it.
Bill_Brasky
12-24-2017, 02:01 PM
From Chip's article, which was later retracted after threat of a lawsuit from the Buecheles:
According to sources, Buechele’s parents aren’t crazy about the way Herman is running the program - even thinking Shane would be better off playing baseball. According to sources, Steve Buechele has told other parents of players the way the coaches are coming down so hard on the players with everything from constantly having to pass hydration tests to cleaning the weight room at 4:30 am as punishment to eating burnt breakfasts for being on the losing team at practice, he doesn’t think players are enjoying the game they love - especially when the team is 6-6.
According to sources, Steve Buechele, a bench coach with the Texas Rangers, has told other parents UT coaches are running the program harder and with less feeling than the Rangers run spring training - adding the Rangers get paid, while UT football players don’t.
I always thought CB was a shitty journalist, but god damn is that low. And 247 is doubling down on this stupidity by threatening to ban users who continue to talk about it.

This is pretty accurate. The timing of the piece is the main issue here. He should have waited to release the article. However, I would like to add Chip and Bobby are more anti-Texas than pro and both can EABOD! I’ve lost pretty much all respect for those two. They are in the deep southern gentile conference where they always belonged. And they can still play the farmer\fake military role and pretend to be dignified.
Many Aggies now say the SEC understands their culture... that's great. It's a big hard Orange Sun, that's a tough thing. So now they can bow to a red tide with an elephant mascot.

I think Herman first came out and said Malik would probably not play tomorrow then Floss reported it was more definite from Herman he would not go. I don't think our current staff or the last for that matter cares for Tristan N. and his mobility even with his experience. If Rodriguez never goes down early this year we probably never see Tristan except for emergency situations.

Did the Mizzou coach belittle us and do the horns down?

I'm actually happy that Herman dropped that last score on Missouri's ass. I'm glad he did it with a trick play and mostly I'm glad that he showed a little attitude while doing it.
It's about time Texas had a coach that wasn't so worried about image, and wasn't afraid to drop a hammer on an opponent.
However, he better not cry if someone does that to Texas.
I like the edge he showed, now he needs to build on this win with a solid off season.

I have no problem with the kids doing it.
Did the Mizzou coach belittle us and do the horns down?
And while they are celebrating Herman appears to admonish Orlando for not getting his group ready while Hermam is spending time mocking them with the kids who need to pay attention? Bad ending, great effort. The kids played very hard and that's a very good sign.
Gotcha didn't catch the Orlando situation. Anyways good vibes going to the off season much needed win.

I'm actually happy that Herman dropped that last score on Missouri's ass. I'm glad he did it with a trick play and mostly I'm glad that he showed a little attitude while doing it.

The way we have lost games because of our offense... We needed that last drive and score. We needed to close out a game. But we put them back in scoring position with stupid penalties. I did not want them to score. The way the defense played overall showed all the attitude we need. The 2ndary was outstanding for the majority of the game. Those kids that have committed have to be excited.
The image is changing. We took a kid holding drugs and money on a HS campus. I'm giving Herman and the kid the benefit of doubt because there is a lot we don't know. Imo, we don't need Saban or Urban Meyer Florida to win.
Edit: I got ESPNed
http://www.espn.com/college-football/story/_/id/21901207/texas-coach-tom-herman-mocks-missouri-qb-drew-lock-td-dance
Wtf was going on after we scored that last TD?
Seriously wtf was that sideline stuff and then the targeting and roughing the passer and Herman admonishing Orlando after his nipple dance?
Good win, good effort, Herman got a depleted group fired up, but horrible sportsmanship? unless someone clues me in, and our play calling needs to suit what we can and cannot do.
Orlando cannot leave us.
Gary Johnson is a monster.
i was wondering the same thing. it went crazy, especially the targeting hit. but it was chippy all game long and there was lots of jawing going on.
i have never seen a game where the punter was so much a factor in the outcome of the game. that was crazy. dickson is going to get some serious run as an early round pick.

I have to admit, Dickson was a beast and our MVP. Going to miss that freak. I hope he has 20 year NFL career kicking like he did last night.
Best punter I have ever witnessed.
Watching him drop punts inside the 5 must be what it is like to be a fan of Steff Curry watching him drop 3’s from anywhere.

Missouri apparently talked a lot of shit. They seem to be taking the loss and the subsequent Texas mocking of their quarterback well. The rest of the college football watching world is not. Who gives a shit really? It was fucking hilarious. And chill with the Leito shit. Ramonce Taylor was dealing on our campus and no one gave a shit until he was arrested. At least Leito had the right mindset to deal in Oklahoma. It’s not like those kids have much of a future anyway.

I was gonna say act like we have been there before.
But we have not, in a long time at least.
Maybe there will come a time when teams don't want to do anything to piss us off.
Poona Ford made some beastly hustle plays. Any ideas on where he goes in the draft? His stamina is outstanding for that body form.

"Seeing them do the "In the bag" celebration was hilarious. It was probably my highlight of the game, and it shows how cool (Tom) Herman is. Linebackers played great as they always do."

Apparently we gave a shit.
Since they started the Middle School "touch your it"
And I don't think we will find a player who is going to say they did not love it.
All that counts in the end was our win accentuated by that last drive. We rammed the ball down their throats and then mixed it up and scored. That's the best retribution possible IMO.

Hes a bad ass and was named bowl mvp with reason I hope his cousin can come in and after a couple years do something close to what Dickinson has done. I think a lot is lost on Naivar being our special teams coach. Special teams was horrendous last year and a lot has to do with guys breaking free running the field and downing the ball as far down as they can. We didn't see that nearly as much last year. Dickinson is great but Naivar has coached these guys to take pride in their work something as small as catching a ball and downing a team close to their endzone is a big deal in the length of a game. Much props to Naivar bad as safety and special teams coach.

That was illustrated by Herman hitting all the downfield guys on the hats coming off the field, even if they were not in on the downing of the ball. They were covering up the endzone extremely well and not being fooled by the returners fake moves on the ball. They knew where the ball was while running downfield trying to shed blocks. Herman recognized the importance. That's a huge step above Charlie, he would have been fiddling with his headset poor guy.

The Davis interception reading their bag QB, Gary Johnson all night, and Poona Ford running to all parts of the field. That's better than any talking.
Gary Johnson was an absolutely fantastic get. I know he is undersized, but so was Shazier at Ohio State. And I like the comparison. His speed is incredible. If we can find another NT type with Ford's hustle, we could be very nicely set up on D with expected improvement from Roach, Hager, the kid from Temple, Jones at safety...
Could the big kid from Temple, Graham, just remembered, possible play in the middle? He is a really big kid. Possibly too tall though.

I sat in front of my TV in 1991 watching the Cotton bowl where Miami not only beat Texas but embarrassed the shit out of them. At that time I wished Texas would have that level of Swag.
If Missouri were not the school that started the whole changing conference BS that resulted in Nebraska, Colorado, Aggsy, and them leaving the Big 12. I might take a much dimmer view of what Herman did.
If Missouri would have kept their word and stayed in the Big 12 after not being selected by the Big 10, when they came back with their hats in their hands, I might have taken a dimmer view of what Herman did.
If Missouri would have not been such dicks the whole week leading up to the bowl game, I might have taken a dimmer view of what Herman did.
But the fact is Missouri did all those things, and got their asses kicked, they are A+ level dicks and deserve everything they get. Hate that state as much as I hate Oklahoma.
I just wish Herman had called a timeout to try and score again.

Shitty coach is a shitty coach. McWilliams was the worst offensive coach in Texas history, until Charlie strong took over.
Mackovic was the worst defensive coach in Texas history, until Diaz became the DC at Texas.
Charlie was the worst coach period, deal with it.
