Bolded years are during Longhorn Network’s existence. Texas brings in Top 10 recruiting classes consistently. It’s not a raw talent issue. It’s a development and toughness issue. For the past 10 years this has been a relatively soft program in comparison to the 10 years prior.

Texas was dominant from 2001 to 2010. The program was consistently tough. Something happened during the next 10 years. They were still bringing in the same Top 10 classes but were pumping out charmin soft teams. Why is that? What has happened? At some point you can’t put the blame entirely all on the coaches. You’re just going to keep cycling through head coaches every 3 or 4 years with the same soft teams. Something within the culture or intangible components is contributing to soft teams.

The LHN is paparazzi’ish with constant coverage. Kids are coming into the program with cameras and crews boosting up egos and entitlement with zero success required. There’s an intangible component to this. Kids feel as if they’ve “made it” without needing to produce results on the field.

They can go 0-12 and still get Hollywood treatment. This has an unseen affect in the minds of players and ultimately in practice & preparation & development.

I’m not saying LHN is the sole reason for the decline. I am saying though that it has had in some form a negative affect towards the decline. Even if it’s a small affect it’s still impacting things. There is a culture issue.

Hell, Michigan was the #1 winningest football team and look at their failure. They are like the Aggies and Ohio st is what we were. Look at USC. Now we need good evaluators of talent and get it right and get them to Austin. I think we can do this.

i was a little surprised to see judson lose to consolidated but not shocked. consolidated has some state contenders from time to time. 26-5A will be interesting this year. new braunfels looks formidable to start, wagner seems to be doing well and then there's always judson and steele. i catch steele games because of my closeness to the program and they have a great defense but lots of questions on offense, especially on the line and at QB (just like a&m). UTSA is like a san antonio high school all-star team so it's great to see some of the area talent have a nice platform. too many of these kids get passed up by some of the perennial programs but that works out for the roadrunners. and i've been a leal fan since judson; it's also nice to see him paired with jalen jones of steele.

Offense is scary for me:
1. OL definitely not good
2. WR overall, very average
3. QB given the inability of WR to get open easily, QB time to throw when blocking 4 DL, lack of QB experience: not good

Its all BR. So if you are the opposition. Get ahead if you can. Shut down BR anyway you can. Make us try to catch up using the passing game and you got us dead to rights. Oklahoma, TCU must be licking their chops.
Must we get Troy Omeire back to have a decent WR group. Xavier Worthy is a true freshman and by far our most dangerous WR. I would like to pretend J Whitt is good, but he is very average. Poor kid has just been busted up his entire career. He is not the same lightning he was as a FR.

Only way we make a run in the Big 12 is huge improvement. which is easily stated AND
1. get ahead early
2. play stellar defense and win turnover numbers
3. keep the ball on offense and keep the D off the field

And we will face conference foes that will hate us, not quite as much as Arky to actually sell out and make a fan difference, but the players will be super motivated (and the coaches, the salvation of beating us in possibly the last game we will play for a while.)

Im not confident of our prospects even thought the Rice game may give us some sort of hope... and then we get bashed against the rocks when the tide comes in the rest of the conference season. We have what seems zero room for error. Just not talented enough to get through games. Even like ATM looking like crap against Colorado were able to pull out a win because their D is so talented. We could not possibly get away with playing crappy offense like they did.

I think Whitt is great when he actually holds on to the ball.

I think he is strong.

But getting open and superior moves and speed. Its gone. That being said we must have him. I think of Garrett Wilson on Ohio State at one time actually considering us. No Collin, no Humphrey, no Duvernay. Maybe something of a connection rises during the Rice game.

The only two negatives for me is our OL allowing Thompson to get hit a handful of times really hard, one leading to the int. and our inability to hit the long pass. I think the long pass will come in due time, with the more Thompson and the receivers build their chemistry. The hits on Thompson is an OL issue though. We need them to step up and protect our captain.

At least the OL is run blocking like beasts tonight. 2 guys with over 100 yds rushing and 4 TDs......this is some old school offense....

It is just a game, but it is a metaphor for life. When you are struggling in life, does it show mercy.....Hell no. Life continues to pile on and pile on. We scored TDs on 10 of 12 possessions. The other two ended with an int in the end zone and a turnover on downs in the final minute. We could have and should scored on both. We had a pick 6. We had a punt block for a TD called back cause K Rob was slightly lined up in the neutral zone. We had a punt return all the way back to the 7. Our penalties were very limited. We only turned it over once during the heart of the game, and he had a better option along the sideline. Our OL was damn near flawless. Our defense shut down their running game until garbage time. We dominated on offense and ST. Our D did a very good job, except for the 3 long TD passes and getting juked by the QB for a TD. Still, because our O was so successful, our D was afforded the opportunity to make a few mistakes. Besides, this gives Sark a reason to chew some ass in practice and prep this week.


BTW, I cannot stress this enough. Why do backup QBs come in and just abuse our defense. It has been going on for 2+decades, and it is really annoying and frustrating.

Sark was definitely correct about our RBs. They all clearly got holes to run through, but they all showed different styles and abilities. Definitely got great depth here. The kid from Alabama has ungodly acceleration. And the 4th string freshman is very shifty with good vision and strong. Damn. We are good here. With blocking.

Xavier Worthy is our best receiver. As a true freshman... Unbelievable. Washington stumbles over himself in the 1st quarter wide open and poor ole Jordon Whittington dropping balls. Dude was so quick as a freshman, those injuries have reduced him to very average. But we absolutely need him, but poor guy just has zero burst anymore.
Troy Omerie needs to get healthy. Having a big guy over the middle would be nice.

And I still am perplexed by this team. The Tech defensive line and defense was supposed to be improved. Is Sark really this good at taking advantage (when we can actually block people) or does the Tech D just suck again and forever? The offensive line opened gaping holes and we actually got pass blocking? wtf... is this the same old Jeckyll and Hide team, because we have actually blown 2 teams out this year and got to play backups. Mysteries surround me with this team. Maybe our offensive line is not talented (we knew this) but is actually making it up by working together in a really coordinated manner?

ATM is really bad on offense. They had some injuries but appeared to get the running game going against Arky and then just fell apart. Constant Penalties, a backup QB that just is so very bland... In college football its very tough to do anything with QBs that slow that cant run. I would expect some type of backup like ARky has. At least he can make plays. OU is not a top 5 team right now, no matter their stupid ranking. They are the luckiest team in the nation so far this year. Should be 1-3.

OU 4-0 barely beat Tulane, Nebraska, and WV all at home. They killed that nobody team they played. Opponents are 5-11 so far, all unranked.

Texas is 3-1 dominated 3 of 4 Opponents, got dominated in only loss. Opponents combined 11-5. Beat a ranked Louisiana team. Now Arky will be top 10, seems like a quality loss to me, though they were unranked at the time.

I cannot wait till RRR weekend.

I thought the OL play was better. Casey had a pocket to step up in. Sark is great on getting backups in the game. Only fault with team play to me is DBS.

In the second half with their backup qb, our defensive line was awful at causing disruption of the passer.
Their QB sat in a pocket, or if he did had to move, he did it easily without too much problem.
They have to pass, they are too far behind, and they just wing the ball down field with time, touchdown. Easy.

This was infuriating for me.

Watched a bit of the Notre Dame-Wisconsin game, those teams, both of them, have athletes on the D line that were just eating QBS. Both teams. The contrast between games... it set me off.
