A few notes:
"While the specifics on how a scheduling pact might work remain unclear, sources in the three conferences suggest the larger goal is alignment so that the Pac-12, Big Ten and ACC can work and vote together on major issues such as College Football Playoff expansion and upcoming NCAA governance changes.
“This is their shot right back at the SEC,” one athletic director said."
*****
While these plans are still in the works, it does appear the Big 12 will not be included in the alliance. Last week, Big 12 commissioner Bob Bowlsby met with Kliavkoff to discuss potential options for a strategic alliance. The Big 12 is currently exploring options to preserve its future after Texas and Oklahoma exit.
If this alliance comes together, it would clearly be a setback for the Big 12. Sources in the conference said Bowlsby was optimistic about the potential of working with the Pac-12, and the possibility of this three-league alliance was not discussed on a call between Bowlsby and Big 12 athletic directors on Friday.

Inside Texas:
A couple of three-stars adding more than expected value
When Luke Brockermeyer was offered a walk-on opportunity at Texas in the 2018 class, his more football famous little brothers were mostly unknown 8th graders. The secret was beginning to get out on Tommy with his recognizable last name and nearly 6-foot-5, 220 pound stature. James was nowhere close to hitting his ultimate size, as he was around 5-foot-10 at the time. I quipped at the time I hope he took comfort in knowing he had a big growth spurt ahead of him.
The point of mentioning Tommy and James — aside from triggering the mentally weak among us — is to remind readers Tom Herman didn’t pursue Luke because of his brothers. Sure, the legacies of his father Blake and grandfather Kay helped, but Luke was an interesting prospect in his own right. He held a real offer from Rice and was set to sign with Oregon State before Texas put a lot of effort towards the recruitment and offered him as a preferred walk-on.
Luke’s one-line evaluation was he moved well enough to play linebacker or H-back. The recruitment boiled down to whether or not he’d get a chance to earn a real scholarship.
He did earn that scholarship but apparently never earned a chance at real playing time. That doesn’t make much sense unless Herman was angling for the twins by this time, but in any event, Luke’s first real chance came this past spring. Needless to say he took advantage and entered the summer as a de facto first team linebacker.
Early returns in camp have been positive as he’s playing the run and pass decisively. At this point, he seems a lock to be in the top three of the two inside linebackers. Today’s scrimmage could go a long way towards him ultimately opening up as the starter at Mike linebacker versus Louisiana. Right now he’s the favorite to do so.
If that happens, it’ll tell a number of stories, including: want-to, football genes, and poor roster management. Who knows, maybe Juwan Mitchell really was better…
*****
Christian Jones was a very interesting “project” as a junior playing defensive end. He was both athletic and uncoordinated when it came to the game of football. This was further highlighted his senior year when he played offensive line for the first time. He was already pretty new to the sport and o-line doesn’t come with the same ’pin your ears back’ simplicity d-end does. It requires a large amount of technique and choreography and at times Jones was tough to watch even if his upside was pretty obvious.
While he was missing the things you can coach, he had a large measure of those things you can’t coach, namely size, bend, and the ability to move omni-directionally. When I saw him as a recruit at a Texas bowl practice he looked better on the hoof than any current offensive lineman, to include Connor Williams. I knew Jones by tape, and I was a fan of the baseline attributes, but did not know him by face. I was blown away.
Texas recruited him pretty aggressively as a contingency, having him visit for a game or two and then getting him to that bowl practice. The main competition was Cal who had his commitment as a defensive end. Justin Wilcox liking Jones at defensive end did as much to underscore Jones’ raw upside as anything else.
The staff pulled off the late cycle steal of the Cypress prospect but now the real work was to begin. More often than not projects on the offensive line get lost in the shuffle. It’s a demanding position that requires a mature understanding of delayed gratification. Jones in particular had a long way to go. Credit to him, he’s already come further than most players with his college starting point.
Last season he was a year ahead of schedule when it comes to real playing time. That explains his inconsistency, well, along with questionable coaching. Now, as a fourth year player with plenty of development behind him, not to mention a new o-line coach with a good reputation for development, he’s poised to take the next step.
He’ll have a couple more steps in him after that.
*****
This is not a pro three-star post. Three-stars on a micro level can fare quite well. They can become NFL Hall of Famers. That’s because there’s an excess of them. Macro-ratings are far less kind to them. You want five- and four-stars. Lots of them.
This is a pro-contingencies and good evaluation post, and should serve as a reminder staffs need to work towards building out the entire roster, and then some in the case of walk-ons, in each and every cycle.
For fans, it’s a good look at how players can go from afterthoughts to starters if they have the ability and will to maximize.

For fans, it’s a good look at how players can go from afterthoughts to starters if they have the ability and will to maximize.
It should also be noted that some 4 and 5 star athletes did not fare well in college and eventually had 2 and 3 stars playing better college football ahead of them. then the draft, they get lost or get picked late, and then are healthy producers in the pros.
the paradox:
We need good college football players, what they do in the pros does not count in our current college football games.
But, the more players you have make the pros (clearly 4 and 5 star by %) the more likely you are to get 4 and 5 stars on your college football team.
Also I think we see a fairly eye opening occurrence when you look at pro football rosters. There are some very small colleges producing pros and some N/A as well. The pros clearly require a superior level of athleticism. If the football mind then clicks in you are in. Basketball types, great HS players who get lost in the *psuedo academic and maturity shuffle resurface.
*Not having the want to nor even the capability of making it to a classroom.

my biggest worry is the OL. if our OL is good, we will have a great year. If our OL is bad, we will struggle, per status quo for the last decade or so.

perkins
What would the chances of Perkins playing for someone other than the SEC be?
"It's zero," Said Perkins.
That means Texas has to get to the SEC in 2022 to have a shot, and Perkins will have to know that well ahead of the first week in January when he plans to announce his decision.
"I loved my visit to Texas. Loved everything about it. But I told the coaches that I didn't want to play in the Big 12. Other than Oklahoma, you don't play anyone in the Big 12,” said the five-star.

So as of right now the SEC Texas Aggies will play one ranked football team who they cant beat.
With out of conference including Prairie View, New Mexico, Kent State, and mighty Colorado.
Sounds a hell of a lot like our Big 12 schedule except teams will be out to kill us for destroying the conference.
I guess ATM will have a lot to play for in conference after being told to go sit in the back of the room while we let The University of Texas in.

Maybe some or all of therecievers need one on one with a coach. Like Sanders had. Simplerun your route then catch the ball.

Sarkisian said they had to learn it all and be able to adjust based on their ability. I believe he said getting open and adjusting routes to work was part of the process of based on their particular physical qualities. This means you have to have guys this comes naturally for. Do we have dunderheads? It is possible to have dunderheads which is why guys like Kai might actually get reps. He said receivers must also understand the QBs perspective and situation. Maybe he even mentioned he liked receivers who had played QB? I think he did.
Yeah our coach really did imply our receivers have got to be good at the game of football.

Sounds to me like the whole team is getting better coaching. Strong was never an offensive coach, and Herman was wildly unpredictable.
I’ll bet we will see the best coaching we have seen in years. If Card wins the job, we’ll have a freshman QB, which ain’t good. But we will have a running back that’s for damn sure. We will score points I’m thinking.
I think we will see the biggest improvement on the defense. Which is what we really needed anyway.

Practice 10 report (Inside Texas)
In 2016 we suspected freshman Shane Buechele would start at quarterback (it’s the main reason I liked him as the take in the first place) thanks to his maturity and high early floor at the position. But we didn’t know he would start over Tyrone Swoopes until we got a clear idea of rep allocation in practice. The reports of who is playing better is useful but often subjective — understanding rep allocation is the true key.
Dating back to the spring, the Casey Thompson and Hudson Card competition had been evenly split when it came to reps with the ones, other than the spring game where Steve Sarkisian placed Thompson primarily with the first group.
This week there has been a change and both rep allocation and subjective practice reports are in agreement that Hudson Card is currently the best option at quarterback, though it’s not like our sources think he’s run away with it yet. There is some separation, though.
While Thompson is with the second team, Sarkisian is still coaching him hard and working with him like nothing has changed on the depth chart. To be expected but good to hear because both will be needed.
One knock on Card is he’s sacked too often but that also tells us he’s protecting the ball and not throwing it up for grabs. There are also times when he’s able to escape the pocket where he demonstrates the willingness to extend plays and keep his eyes down field. Along with being athletic he also has some savviness to him. Not to make Ian’s knees weak, but he has some Pump Fake Purdy to him when on the perimeter.
Of note: While hitting schools yesterday we heard a great first hand account of Card’s toughness but we’ll shelve it for now. No need to give the wrong impression that we’re anointing him. But it is a useful story we’ll get to.
With Casey, it’s more of what we’ve been writing. He’s not getting it out quick enough and if you hesitate in this zero sum DL/OL setting they’re going to get to you. Like Card, he has been playing better than he did in the scrimmage, however, and there’s a lot of confidence in him winning games when he’s needed.
It’ll be ‘interesting’ to hear fan accounts from the open practice tonight.
*****
Moro Ojomo had a big spring but we hear he’s elevating his game once again and has become a very well rounded defensive lineman. Run or pass, he can play it.
This likely coincides with Alfred Collins getting reps at Jack/defensive end. We don’t believe this is a full time move — more of a package — but it indicates the coaches want to find ways to get Keondre Coburn, Moro Ojomo, and Collins on the field together. That makes sense.
Collins had one rep in team drills that really stuck out where he got off the ball in a blur and was into the backfield untouched. Keep in mind he has one of the quickest 10-yard splits on defense.
We asked about Jacoby Jones. He’s been a little quiet. We heard he’s playing well, but better versus the run.
Asked about Ben Davis at Jack. “Pretty good, pretty disruptive at Jack or Sam.”
*****
DeMarvion Overshown has been back but he could have been playing the whole time. They just like to rest him because they already have a good feel for what he is. He’s making plays in practice, shooting gaps or making plays in space.
Resting him does help get Luke Brockermeyer and David Gbenda on the field together. Even with Overshown back, Gbenda does get limited reps with the ones but it seems like Luke has a good handle on the starting spot. Like Ojomo, he’s built on a quality spring.
They could use another linebacker stepping up. Jaylan Ford has been pretty solid.
*****
Kitan Crawford has had some limited reps with the ones. Only health is standing in the way of Josh Thompson and D’Shawn Jamison from playing but Crawford is really good.
Thompson has been very sticky in coverage and the feeling is Xavier Worthy is making the corners dial in their technique because he’s so athletic.
*****
Worthy at slot with Jordan Whittington and Joshua Moore playing outside makes the most sense given the current issues. That’s what was worked a lot yesterday.
Drops have been contagious and Worthy has had his share too of late.
For all the talk about drops, though, Marcus Washington had a solid practice on Tuesday.
They need some guys to step up in a major way. If they don’t, it reduces the ceiling on offense by a good amount.
*****
One position group nobody is worried about is running back. Bijan Robinson had the play of practice when he lit up BJ Foster on a grown man collision. You know Foster will be looking for him tonight.
*****
Full pads tonight for the open practice.

What's wrong with Roschon that he keeps getting second team status. Seems to me every time I see him run he's great.

imo he runs very hard and is very tough...
But there is no way he has the speed and moves of Bijan and Bijan can also run over people.

Man I have the feeling our defense is gonna have to be very good.
Turnovers and short fields might be necessary for us to be consistently good on offense.
The inconsistent WR group with a new starter at QB... yikes... As an opponent, I would stuff Bijan and the run and make us pass. And based on our OL I can see how it might be fairly easy to stuff the run if an opponent wants to.

What is wrong with Chip Brown?
Those list questions and his speech... I hope he is a great writer because he is just awful at interview questions. And actually just asking them.
Was he not prepared...? I dont keep up with the various press guys that follow and write about Texas so... did he get hit by a car or does he have some sort of impairment? I really liked listening to these other coaches but can "we" somehow make him submit written questions...

I hope you are right. I still don’t feel confident about our oline. We do have the best oline coach we have had in as long as I can remember, but it’s hard to forget how Sam was pummeled last year.

But I honestly feel this might be the best overall staff I have ever seen for the Longhorns.

Hudson Card was the first quarterback with the ones in the first half of today’s scrimmage. Casey Thompson went with the ones for the second half of the scrimmage.
“Both did well,” a source said. “And the offense was a lot better this week.”
Joshua Moore had about a 60-yard reception among “some really good catches.”
Xavier Worthy also had several catches and "was electric” in the scrimmage.
Kai Money also "showed out" Saturday.
The running backs had a good day with another strong showing from freshman Jonathon Brooks.
Jordan Whittington (hamstring) and Troy Omeire (knee) didn’t play in the scrimmage.
Cade Brewer missed the last two days of practice after having his knee drained, but Brewer DID play in the scrimmage Saturday.
On defense, freshman Ishmael Ibraheem had an interception against one of the backup quarterbacks.
The scrimmage included a lot of situational football.

Scrimmage # 2 Notes (Inside Texas)
The defense was a bit sluggish on the day. It feels like the scrimmage was geared to ensure offensive success, but that may be a mischaracterization. It’s hard to know without having seen the practice in person, but the offense ran the ball well to the outside while the defense struggled to set the edge. That’s a bit curious.
Overall they ran about 100 plays. Some of the day was ones vs twos; some of it was ones vs ones, particularly in the red zone.
There were a few more penalties than normal — of the dumb mental variety.
The offense was in a good play calling rhythm and had the defense a little off balance for the first time all camp. Hudson Card, who is said to have a growing command of the offense, threw three touchdowns to Joshua Moore. Two of them were on go routes, one was on a short screen. IT heard each touchdown was against the twos, but the second team corners are not chopped liver.
The running backs had a good day, aside Keilan Robinson who was held out to rest. Roschon Johnson broke off a long run, breaking tackles in the process, and Jonathon Brooks had a good day running to the outside. Typical of freshman, he tends to tip toe when running inside. Bijan is Bijan.
Along with Joshua Moore’s productive day, Xavier Worthy had 3-4 receptions. His best “catch“ of the day was an out of bounds incompletion where he showed great athleticism and concentration.
Juan Davis had a big gain on a tight end screen. He made a move then hit the gas and gained about 50 yards. Athletic dude.
The defense kept things pretty vanilla and IT didn’t hear about any standouts on that side of the ball. But overall the defense didn’t play terribly and it feels like there was a governor on them.
Freshman wide receiver Jaden Alexis hurt his knee early on in the scrimmage but the severity is unknown.
Next Saturday’s scrimmage is a mock game.
If you have any good questions, we’ll try and get them answered for the Scoop.
Correction: Casey Thompson had one of the go route TD’s. The other TD in the below clip was called back (holding). For our purposes it’s still a good ball.

24/7
— Five-star cornerback Denver Harris announced on his Instagram that he was close to releasing a Top 2. I checked around with several sources, and nobody seems to know what he's thinking for sure. Harris is known to play things very close to the vest, but I can say he and his family keep in constant contact with the Texas coaches. Most sources I speak with feel Texas and Alabama are the top two in this race, but there are sources at LSU who also have some confidence. Though I haven't heard a ton of Texas A&M buzz for him, I wouldn't count the Aggies out as they continue to add guys from the greater Houston area. If Texas were to be left out of the mix, it would obviously be a disappointing development in the race of another elite prospect. A source I spoke with feels that Harris wants to see Texas play this fall and see the product on the field. We will see how this unfolds over the next few weeks.
— There isn't much new with four-star Trussville (AL.) Hewitt-Trussville defensive lineman Justice Finkley from my perspective. He talked a few weeks ago about wanting to make a decision sometime soon, and I believe that will happen in the coming weeks. I laid out where I think things stand last week with Finkley, and while I believe the Texas staff has been able to make this a tough decision for him, it's tough to say no to Nick Saban and Alabama. Early on in this recruitment, a key source in the state of Alabama told me they believed Texas would benefit if this race drug out, but this doesn't constitute dragging out. I'm still digging to get an idea on the decision, but I just feel like you don't get rich betting against Alabama.
— Southaven (MS.) defensive lineman Aaron Bryant is set to announce his decision tomorrow at 1 p.m. My 247Sports Crystal Ball is on the Longhorns, and I haven't heard anything leading up to the date that would make me change the pick. Bryant was recently bumped to a four-star prospect by 247Sports which also bumped his Composite score. Despite some ups and downs in the Texas class, I feel that the defensive line group is coming together really nicely for Bo Davis and adding Bryant would be another great piece for the front.
— I spoke with a source regarding Salt Lake City (Utah) Brighton linebacker Lander Barton. Barton has been very responsive with the Texas staff and is set for a fall official visit to take in Austin. Michigan and Texas are the only two schools slated for official trips at the moment, but Utah won't likely go away quietly considering the deep ties the Utes have in his family. One source near him said there is a feeling that Barton would like to get away from home and create his own legacy, so it's not automatic that he ends up at Utah. Texas has a chance to impress him on the visit and potentially close the deal to land an athletic and versatile defender.

In order for Texas to finish that high they're going to need all the big dogs they are pursuing to ultimately decide with them.
That includes the likes of Devon Campbell, Evan Stewart, Denver Harris, Brenen Thompson and Justice Finkley.

I agree. Iowa state has all the stars aligned with returning players. This will be the best team they have ever had by far. Oklahoma is really good. The rest of the games we should win, but there will be an off game along the way, especially with a freshman qb.
We do need health. I think our defense will be improved. I think we will be better coached. The kids will see that. I really am not so concerned with winning this year, but want to see progress, as in a building year. I see the next year as when we will have a team that will flex its muscle. I believe our 1st game is against the Louisiana team that throttled Iowa St. in their first game last season, straight up beat them.
AP 21 vs. 23 by silly preseason rankings. So theres that; Apparently we have a serious 1st game against a good offense. I think their defense was a bit weaker last year when they lost only 1 game. Thank god because I am really leery of a team like ours with inexperienced QBs and an O line, that unless vastly improved, will not be able to block for the QB. And it appears we have neither consistent depth or superstars at WR with the possible exception of a true freshman. Bijan may get hit hard all season.

Oh I guess people not dropping balls and unable to get open which what Sark had hinted at in his interviews. And then he went through all the positions and what he thought had the most depth (RB and DL) WR were not really even discussed and the above was given.
A true freshman at a starting spot is a sign. you could say we had 15 WR and if the 3 extra were on the level of the middle group of backups it would give me no comfort. Jordan Whittington is often injured and he is listed as a starter. Our big fast receiver cant stay healthy either. Its... a problem combined with two QBs that have just not played that many meaningful minutes (cept our total destruction of an awful Colorado team)
This is where the Coach himself could be huge. With the apparent play calling mastery and knowing what he cannot do with the talent we have. Hes not gonna say it but at Bama they had a lot of luxury items. And frankly when they finally got tested and had to score with good plays for great players, they did.

I was at the game.....helluva game. Judson is dead meat if they have to rely on kicking game...2 missed Fgs, 2 missed PAT'S, 1 blocked PAT..kicker left 9 points off the board. Also, their DBs need to learn to turn their head back to the ball to avoid PI calls. Lastly, either DeAnthony Lewis is hurt or he transferred, but he was not there.

May beyou are talking about talent and recievers injury this is not depth IMO depth is numbers at a position. Agreesome are hurt and some may like talent but they are what Texas has.
Belive Sark said that the WR room might have too many bodies. Any comenext Saturday all will be good orhell will break loose.
Yeah.
I dont count depth as pure numbers if people cant really fill a spot in. And if our starting guys have garnered much criticism, it must be really sparse behind them. Maybe they will catch on. The interviews with Sark clearly indicate he expects much more. Its a weak position. All im saying is I dont like this with a new QB. One go to guy as a WR would make me feel better. I guess that will be established. We have had go to guys for a number of years and it did not really help us win consistently because we could not block and we could not defend.
Maybe next week we can run the ball effectively and take the pressure off. It seems most offensive lines have a much easier time run blocking than pass blocking. I look for some quick stuff for the RBs to get space as well. I hope a WR shows up in tune with (I guess Hudson Card) It may take the freshman.

Me too but my expectations for this first season are kind of low. We've got a big question mark at the position that has been a headache for us ever since Colt left plus we don't know what we're getting from the O-line.

I have a friend who went to school at Tulane and keeps up with the Green Wave student body. They moved them all out well ahead of time but it looks like they wont be back for a while. NO and La are notoriously poor at keeping trees away from power lines. The wind was really bad and lasted longer than Katrina. She claims it will take a good long while for power and in the meantime, cesspool. Nice of OU to do. Hopefully Tulane can find a place to practice. It may be a complete move out. Hopefully Birmingham will help out in the meantime.

Inside Texas
The Texas Longhorns head into the season-opener against Louisiana with momentum on the recruiting trail.
After a trio of On300 defensive line commitments in the last week, Texas is firmly one of the top 10 classes in the country.
With 11 verbals that are members of the On300, a top 5 class is now possible.
With more than a dozen On300 prospects still on the board, Inside Texas plays yes, maybe or no.
Yes is a better than 50-50 shot, Maybe is between 25-49% and no is below 25%.
Yes
Devon Campbell, IOL, Arlington (Texas) Bowie
On 300 Ranking: No. 18
Five-star Campbell will make fall officials to Texas, Alabama and LSU after June OVs to USC and Oklahoma. Close to home is expected to have the advantage here late.
Maybe
Evan Stewart, WR, Frisco (Texas) Liberty
On300 Ranking: No. 5
The five-star will play in the SEC. Texas will need to get that entry date resolved sooner, rather than later. Florida joins Texas as most likely. Alabama, LSU and possibly Texas A&M round out the contenders.
Denver Harris, CB, Houston (Texas) North Shore
On300 Ranking: No. 12
Five-star Harris remains a lean to Alabama. Texas has the best chance to upset Nick Saban. LSU is third and Texas A&M is on the peripheral.
Quency Wiggins, DL, Baton Rouge (La.) Madison Prep
On300 Ranking: No. 22
One source in Louisiana says Alabama is not as likely due to scheme fit long term. Another source in the Pelican State said don’t bet against Alabama. Right now, LSU and Texas could have the best shot. Florida, Auburn and USC are also in the picture.
Brenen Thompson, WR, Spearman (Texas)
On300 Ranking: No. 24
Family wants Thompson close to home. Texas A&M has the momentum over Texas headed into his Longhorns official September 17. Oklahoma State would be a major upset.
Kam Dewberry, OT, Humble (Texas) Atascocita
On300 Ranking: No. 68
The Longhorns are scheduled to receive an unofficial visit Saturday. Texas A&M and Oklahoma are ahead of the Longhorns. Ohio State and LSU are in the fight.
Shazz Preston, WR, Saint James (La.)
On300 Ranking: No. 87
Texas is expected to make the next cut, which should include LSU, Georgia and Alabama. Texas’ offensive scheme and ability to make an instant impact has registered.
Lander Barton, LB, Salt Lake City (Utah) Brighton
On300 Ranking: No. 183
Barton is set to make an official visit to Texas for the Texas Tech game. Barton comes from a family full of former Utah Ute athletes, but the Longhorns have a shot.
Jaylon Guilbeau, CB, Port Arthur (Texas) Memorial
On300 Ranking: No. 184
This recruitment is all over the place, as expected with the timing of the decommit. TCU was going to be the landing spot, but Texas and Oklahoma to the SEC changed that. Guilbeau will be in Austin Saturday, and Texas would likely take his verbal once again. Texas A&M remains in contact.
Justice Finkley, EDGE, Trussville (Ala.) Hewitt-Trussville
On300 Ranking: No. 190
Texas has not backed off the 6-foot-2, 255-pounder. The staff still covets him despite a run of EDGE/DL commits in the last week. Alabama will accept a commitment. Colorado is the third team under consideration.
No
Harold Perkins, LB, Cypress (Texas) Cy Park
On300 Ranking: No. 8
The five-star linebacker is a lock to play in the SEC. Texas A&M and LSU are in front of Texas and Florida. Alabama lurking.
Jaleel Skinner, TE, Greer (S.C.) IMG Academy
On300 Ranking: No. 17
The five-star from the Palmetto State now at IMG Academy is considered a long shot. Jeff Banks has Texas in the final five with Miami, Florida State, Clemson and Alabama.
Kelvin Banks, OT, Humble (Texas) Summer Creek
On300 Ranking: No. 26
Texas continues to work to chip away at the Oregon verbal. Unless Banks shows back up in Austin, this is a “no.” Texas A&M won’t be giving up any time soon either.
Jordan Hudson, WR, Garland (Texas)
On300 Ranking: No. 29
The SMU commit is still listening to Texas, and could make an official visit in the fall. If that OV happens, he moves to the “maybe” category.
Omai Abor, EDGE, Duncanville (Texas)
On300 Ranking: No. 30
Texas made the final five for Abor, along with Ohio State, Alabama, LSU and Texas A&M. Texas best chance of winning out for Abor would be Harold Perkins ending up in Austin.
Neto Umeozulu, IOL/OT, Allen (Texas)
On300 ranking: No. 58
Admittedly, this is a guess. With only one official taken to USC, there is a lot of runway left in this recruitment. Texas is working to receive a fall official, as is Texas A&M.
Earnest Greene, IOL, Bellflower (Calif.) St. John Bosco
On300 Ranking: No. 133
Texas covets the Southern California four-star. So does early favorite Ohio State, and a number of others. The Longhorns could get an official visit in the fall.

Bobby Burton:
Yesterday, a college freshman, who was supposed to be a high school senior, announced he had reached an agreement with a company for an NIL deal in the amount of $1.4 million dollars.
Quinn Ewers, a quarterback from Southlake who was once committed to Texas, eventually committed to Ohio State, then a month ago decided to forgo his senior year of high school and enroll in college a full year early.
There were whispers that he was doing the wrong thing, abandoning his high school team at the last minute. But I mean it’s hard to say that in retrospect. $1.4mm is a lot of money to darn near anyone.
So the result is clear.
NIL is even affecting high school football now.
**
If Ewers, without much of a pedigree, is worth $1.4mm for a single deal, what is Arch Manning worth?
**
I’m anxious to see just how quickly Texas comes out of the gate on Saturday.
Tom Herman was typically good at scoring on first opportunities and/or first quarter management. Not so good the rest of the way.
I know that Alabama is a hard example to match given the talent he had in Tuscaloosa, but Steve Sarkisian was often nails on the first couple of drives.
I want to see how that translates at Texas.

Herman was a total jackwagon....he had to go. He was arrogant AF and we weren't going to go to the next level with him. If Sark aint the guy, then we'll find someone else who might be.
I think Sark has done well to rebuild his career after his fall and yoiu can tell he appreciates everything. He has assembled a great staff around him. So while we might've done better....sticking with Herman I saw no hope for any improvements.
The BMD's are driving the bus and they terminated Herman...so we'll see what happens.....if Sark isn't it,....i guess we'll raid the Raiders for our next coach once again!
I don't expect much, tbh. I thought it was a mediocre hire. I guess we'll see
if he can actually get some good QB play, then that at least puts the program back on the level mack had it for a while with lots of talent, meh coaching, but great QB play (until colt wimped out against bama and ruined gilberts psyche), which is far better than anything herman or strong could do. but yeah, his leash definitely has to be short, they cant screw up the start of their transfer to the SEC or it could get really ugly.

That's basically the best they could do if they want 12 teams. I personally would have only added Houston and either BYU or Cincinnati to get to 10 teams.
God that sucks.
But I'm trying to figure out how much I should really care. I mean, in this new conference maybe Tech will actually have a shot at the playoffs vs holding out hope they get the SEC to let them sit at the lunch table with all the cool kids.
If we join the PAC we become like Arizona or ASU. If we join the SEC we become like South Carolina or Missy St.
I just dunno any more. :depressed

Granted football is THAT sport but Tech is only what 2 years removed from a championship game in basketball. Baseball team I believe isn't that bad... Big 12 aint that bad, Texas just needs to move so they stop playing down to competition.
Each week for the past 12 years, you never know which team is going to come out. Thats coaching but also just naturally knowing our d game should win this game, we need a game for this team, etc. I'm sure I can't be the only one that saw this issue. You don't go from beating Notre Dame to losing to Kansas. You don't go beating Georgia but lose to TCU.
Tech could come out of this being the Texas team to beat year in and out.
even after ut and ou leave, big 12 is by far the best conference outside of pac, b10, acc and sec
i think its a chance for tech, tcu and okst to get more serious national recognition if they can dominate the conference and win some bowl games, instead of always being viewed as little brother to UT and OU

The Big 12 will still be a competitive and I think somewhat interesting conference but the SEC move was about power and money.
