Yeah, UT should be ashamed of all the backdooring here and Tech should be irate and cry about it but there's nothing the rest of the conference can do but take it.

Today, OU would be competitive in the SEC, UT not so much. I think with the recent SC ruling, there are going to be 2-3 super conferences and the Big-12 wasn't going to be one of them. They needed to jump ship sooner rather than later. But I agree with you, with UT's recent past, it doesn't look like they will be in a better situation, at least in terms of making it to the playoffs. Hopefully, Sark can turn it around.

Yeah.
Losing a good paying job that you have spent years climbing a ladder (and get a peek on TV ) could not possibly take out any moral standards of men who are at the pinnacle of fairness! Do you know how long the ref in charge spent building those biceps for the camera? I wonder why when conferences play each other they find neutral conference refs... just makes no sense?

If a better situation is winning a National Championship it does no such thing imo.
If getting better players, more $, more exposure is important, its a better situation.

Keeping the Big 12 solvent was definitely the easiest way to a National Championship if we could actually ever field a great team with a great coach. Look how many times Oklahoma made the final 4 with shitty defenses. They gave themselves a chance at least. We have had zero chance since the 4 team format, zero, with the teams we have put together.
So... SEC

If our fans fkn chant those letters...
TEXAS FIGHT.

I can see LSU being one.
So play LSU every year and make the pod of the old SWC/Big12 pod: Ark, ATM, OU, UT ? Im good with that. Bring back the old hate. Rivalry games. Why not have OU be a team ATM plays every year by being in the pod? Ags would rather play Mississippi's than OU? Why? If this is a tough conference lets make a tough pod.

well, for me personally, and from other alumni, oxford is a hell of a lot nicer than norman (in regards to making the road trip-i've only been once and mostly because i wanted to roam the grounds where faulkner once walked). i'd rather lose mississippi state than ole miss. i hope to get a chance to see athens, georgia down the road.

UT will be competitive in all aspects, including recruiting, but it will be a different animal now, that's for sure.

I can see traveling to places you have not been and a new atmosphere could be interesting.

But as far as actually watching games you know will have a history of intensity.
Personally, I will never go to a game in Baton Rouge at night. Unless I get in my English soccer mood and with friends.
I visited Auburn once, but not on game day, and it was surprisingly nice. I have been to College Station and they do keep things very tidy imo. Also the crowd at Texas games in Austin are so mild mannered and hardly committed. One could be so many more places than in a hot stadium. Although they are making physical attempts with the stadium structure to make it louder, good luck.

We will certainly fit in baseball wise.
And basketball becomes easier most likely.

Because they have expanded playoffs in football, we have a chance to lose in the playoffs, if we can even make it.
With the teams we have fielded since the 4 team format we have no chance if our football stays status quo.
If the last few years are what the SEC is, this is the conference of Alabama. Going from competing against Oklahoma, to Alabama... no dice. We have no chance with status quo.

one of the features about the SEC that i have been the most surprised by is the culture of the SEC. despite its deeply red allegiance, there is a myriad of culture to be discovered in some of these states. the television viewing experience used to mean more when the broadcast focused on bands and such but that's a thing of the past. i love the idea of texas being back in the mix again but i don't care so much about OU. from a football perspective though, it'd be great, especially if the ags keep trending the way they are defensively. good idea-staying away from baton rouge at night. i've passed that age where i'd be willing to be around so many redneck hooligans.

Its already gonna be strange next year when opposing teams attempt pile drivers on our players during the game.
I would if I were an opponent.

Didn't say it was but you're upset at UT's "backdooring". Just pointing out that Tech isn't squeaky clean on the honesty front. So maybe check your holier than thou attitude.

Or maybe even a thank you for keeping the Big XII scotch taped together for the past 10 years after those other 4 schools left. That's 10 years of hefty revenue Tech received.

The way I look at it is this. TEXAS has played down to opposition for years. It hasn't been since 2005 and slightly 08/09 where UT was actually playing up to their abilities.

The move to the SEC should help UT prepare more intensely for games and actually start winning from the opening kick on. If I was an executive at Texas, I would look at the past few times we've played out of our conference for bowl games and wonder why that type of intensity wasn't used all the time. If you know your competition is good, you will play better to match.

Recruits will come literally just due to the SEC.. If you need any proof, just look at Texas A&M getting recruits just because of the conference.

Everybody knows the NCAA has a timeline. They won't last forever and this move helps prepare Texas to be prepared rather than reactive after the Big 12 plummets to nothing and the NCAA is found to be mediocre in governing and creating a level field.

If you're playing down to your opponent then your HC sucks.

And UT could absolutely be reactive. Everyone wants them and they could even go independent of they wanted to with their own network. They just gave up any bargaining power they might have had here.

It’s going to happen, but like everything Texas it’s going to take awhile. We’re going to have to be patient as fans because the old guard will have to give up their antiquated ideals. The good news is that the chancellor and president ante totally onboard with athletics doing everything necessary to have the best programs. But as you know playblair, we’re often reactive as a department. These things take time and it doesn’t help in the now when there’s a seismic shift occurring with regards to conference realignment. Their attention is elsewhere. My guess is that they’ll view the room after the first round of NIL and see how best to utilize it with the full power of the department and boosters.

Nobody knows exactly how the NIL will play out anyway. Its gonna take some twists and turns. Other teams will also come up with ideas and we will steal them. One thing that was worrisome is what it would do to team unity. That might not even be an issue, we just dont know yet.

Good point.
You hype a bunch of young players that get busted for unsavory incidents. That could not be good. Damn I did not even think about this. A hyped kid makes a bad decision and the University holds it over his head releasing it... how the hell does this work? Its pretty clear some of the Universities have a good relationship with the police...

These dudes ain’t proved shit. Y’all want recruits? Either put kids in the NFL (we haven’t) or win (ahahahahaha). To easy to negatively recruit against this piss poor program. Hopefully Sark can be a successful head coach. This malaise is the direct consequence of Steve Patterson, Charlie Strong, lack of AD after Steve Patterson, and Tom Herman. The only thing that could have turned it around immediately was Urban. That’s it. Now the staff has to put the work in to wash off the stain of the last ten years. If the team starts to win, this recruiting shit will take care of itself.

yeah and head coaching changes usually result in an immediate drop in recruiting. if they go out and have a good year, that combined with the SEC move will have things on their way up quickly. hopefully bijan can have a heisman level year and thompson is good enough to lead the team to a big 12 championship.

I think they're practically banking on the Big XII conference collapsing with that date. Big XII won't survive that long so there will be no exit fees unless Big XII tries to survive for the sole purpose of collecting those fees and then dissolving.

I dont know what kind of shirts kids would wear around each other but I would not be bringing this in to a team and coach I wanted to play for.
I mean the coach sees what you think you are and practices become... oh... possibly very difficult on you?

Ah maybe they will just forget as it is far removed from actually playing for a school.

I was thinking about his teammates.
I don’t think they captured a state title last year and I imagine he would help in getting one.
Im thinking some of his teammates will never play football on this high a level again...

But you got to watch out for yourself. He avoids a year of possible injury and gets immediately into his new team’s ways. And yes, then a good year to establish the hype of a superstar which he clearly could be.

Then, even though he is on my ignore, I get to see his "shit" about making sure he takes antibiotics regularly to solve any unsanitary problems... but... and get this... he will not wear a mask.

How the hell the mods did not get rid of him after his sexual advertising for anus, on this site, is beyond me.
And oh not once, but twice he makes bids to lick anuses in thread titles.
so yes, anything goes with PB. Figure this "dude" out any Dr. Phil.

I also love his pretending he is a fan of UT; when from way back he always carried that Aggie monkey on his back along with his tongue's penchant for 31 flavors. then the tears when Tfloss got a gig he wanted. Would love to see that resume about what he would do outside of work.

From Nick 24/7

We had been hearing rumblings that Klein (Texas) Cain four-star running back commit Jaydon Blue would return to Cain to play his senior season after initially opting out earlier this off-season. The Texas coaching staff played a big role in getting him back on the field this season, but that plan has hit a bump in the road.

Cain’s captains voted unanimously to not allow Blue back on the team this season, so he will not be suiting up for the Hurricanes. It’s not immediately clear if he will transfer or indeed not play his senior season, but it’s a situation we will monitor closely.

August/September could be huge:
DB Bryce Anderson (Beaumont West Brook)
6-0, 185
The decision: Texas or Texas A&M very likely prior to the Bruins' first game of the season.
***IT must-get recruit***

CB Denver Harris (North Shore)
6-0, 180
The decision: Visits have been made to Alabama, Texas, LSU and Texas A&M. The Longhorns have continued to battle back after being behind in February. This one could end in August or September.
***IT must-get recruit***

These recruitments are headed to December or January:
WR Evan Stewart (Frisco Liberty)
6-0, 175
In the mix: Texas, Alabama, LSU, Texas A&M, Florida
***IT must-get recruit***

OG Devon Campbell (Arlington Bowie)
6-3, 310
In the hunt: Texas, Oklahoma, LSU, Alabama and USC
***IT must-get recruit***

So where do we think we stand with the 4 IT MUST GETS above right now?

We dont get any? We get one it is ______. or what you guys have?

Dunlap (Orange Bloods)

- There were a few interesting OL wrinkles today during 3/4 speed team drills prior to the media window, for instance, one personnel grouping involved Junior Angilau at center. That grouping (from L to R) was Andrej Karic, Denzel Okafor, Junior Angilau, Tope Imade and Derek Kerstetter.

- Imade is not in position to make a move to the starting lineup barring injuries to players ahead of him, but the fact that he's mixing in means that Coach Flood probably likes him. To my eyes, he looks like a brick house but is just too slow and stiff. He also needs to get his elbows inside coming into this solo-base assignments or he's going to get called for holding if he does see the field. Slow feet + elbows out = hands outside the chest plate while trying to adjust to the defender's moves = holding calls.

- If you think I was hard on Imade there, you should see Kyle Flood dealing with OT Jaylen Garth. I mentioned yesterday that he seems to be struggling when comparing Garth vs. Christian Jones in drills, but Flood just let it out on the guy in outside-zone reach drills tonight. And for good reason, he's not listening to what they are teaching. At this point, Texas would probably be better putting in a VERY green Max Merrill.

- Freshman OL Hayden Conner on the other hand, is one of the most coachable OL I've ever seen at Texas. Tell that guy something once, it's a steel trap in his brain. I want to reiterate that I am very high on Conner as a future key contributor and a seriously important immediate depth piece.

- The best three true freshmen Texas has on campus, to my eyes (in a limited sample), are Ja'Tavion Sanders, Xavier Worthy and Conner.

- I felt bad watching LB Marcus Tillman trying to wrangle RB Bijan Robinson in the open field during a hash-to-sideline alley drill. Didn't seem fair. Robinson is special, man.

- Your daily reminder that Ja'Tavion Sanders will be a problem as early as this year. Good luck keeping that dude off the field.

- Isaiah Hookfin is still in a boot, but is working on his pass-set steps with trainers which I don't think he'd be doing if it were anything major.

- As for the first defense, I haven't seen them use a nickel back yet. The unit either has Ovie Oghuofo on the field as a SAM linebacker, or it has Brenden Schooler on the field as a third safety. I have a feeling we'll see a lot of three safety looks this year with Schooler, Foster and Jerrin Thompson.

- It's been a while since I've been inside DKR and the stadium looks awesome. Kudos to all the rich people on here that helped get that done. The rest of us pleebs are going to appreciate it immensely.

- First day of full pads will be WED per Texas media relations. Still don't know whether we'll have access, but I would certainly love to cover it if we did, it's not like any state secrets are being given away during the 25-30 minute window we are allowed. You can always email Chris Del Conte ([email protected]) and let him know as a fan if you'd like a few padded practices to be open to the media.

Bobby Burton:

It’s Monday. There have now been three Texas practices and a fourth one scheduled for later today.

Here are some notes I’ve picked up…

I’m told that no matter the order we see in the media viewing period that Kitan Crawford is likely to get some run with the 1s.

“He’s just that talented,” a team source said.

But that wasn’t the only cornerback of note.

I’m told Jahdae Barron has really come on in his sophomore campaign.

Both young corners are delivering the goods early in camp.

**

While the main scuttlebutt from summer workouts and 7-on-7 work was just how electric Xavier Worthy was, it remained to be seen just how good he would be in a full team setting, how well he operated when it was 11-on-11, both mentally and physically.

Well, the response thus far has been nothing short of excellent.

“He’s not scared”, a source said of Worthy and his mentality about going over the middle. “He’s a competitive dude. He’s going to be a major part of the offense.”

Could he start over Jordan Whittington?

“We’re going to have to find a way to get him (Worthy) on the field, period” the source said. “I’m not sure what that will mean for anyone else yet.”

You never know when guys will take the next step and live up to their immense athletic ability, or unfortunately if they will ever make that transition from high school to college -Texas has had too many of the latter to count.

But Worthy, if coaches have it right, is one of those guys where it all comes together.

**

Being just the third practice, it’s hard to dissect the offensive line, especially with Isaiah Hookfin sidelined.

But with Hookfin sidelined, it’s pretty clear that Texas has settled into the idea of Derek Kerstetter starting at right tackle. He is currently backed up by a walk-on.

The real battle seems to be on the left side at tackle where Christian Jones and Andrej Karic are both spending the majority of their time.

**

I’m told by a source that has been watching Texas for decades that this Texas team looks in better overall shape than they have in a while, not a lot of extra weight around the middle on the big guys.

They look more “explosive”. Perhaps that’s personnel, perhaps it’s off-season training, I don’t know. Just something to keep in mind, though I know Eric has a comment or two coming later today that might fit into that discussion.

**

One note on realignment:

I am hearing more and more of USC’s dissatisfaction with the Pac-12.

I don’t know if that means they could make a run for the Big 10, go independent like Notre Dame, or what. But they are not happy campers based on what I’ve been told.

I think they clearly would be a big domino to fall, if and when they were to make any sort of move outside of their Pac-12 safe haven. Just something to keep an eye on.

This one makes me very happy. The aerospace engineer and top student who chose the school based on an academic program can transfer his ability to learn on to the football field. Based on what Sarkisian has stated he needs kids that are smart in football. Hopefully this was more than one or two good days starting with the ABCs. Our offensive line people have played, nothing that new, so the guys with experience are just going to get better. This requires us to believe they can get better, this is not easy

Asking the receivers to learn everything but use their own special abilities to win one on ones requires the players on recognition of what he is good at AND, "now you are on a new spot on the field to start with, get open, you know about where you should be, dont let the position on the field confuse you." I like it. The receivers absolutely should understand what a play call means for the qB, as called, and as it unfolds.

Freshman OL Hayden Conner on the other hand, is one of the most coachable OL I've ever seen at Texas. Tell that guy something once, it's a steel trap in his brain. I want to reiterate that I am very high on Conner as a future key contributor and a seriously important immediate depth piece

Real quickly with an assist from Gerry.

Defensive back Chris Adimora has made the switch from nickel to free safety behind BJ Foster. The move was made possible by Jerrin Thompson not only moving to nickel but looking comfortable at the position. Je. Thompsons is fluid in coverage, more so than Adimora, and while he might not be as physical, he’s no slouch when it comes to taking on bigger players.

Overall the secondary is looking good and deep. One source said there isn’t much drop off across the board from the first and second team. Second team consists of Kitan Crawford, Jahdae Barron or Darion Dunn, Adimora, Tyler Owens, and Anthony Cook.

The DB’s are benefiting from the DL and vice versa.

D-tackle is proving to be a real strength. Keondre Coburn in particular has been giving guys the business and it doesn’t matter if he’s going against Jake Majors, Junior Angilau, or a center/guard combo. Moro Ojomo was also mentioned, as was Alfred Collins (2nd team) and Byron Murphy. It’s good to hear Murphy’s name mentioned outside of player driven practices. So far so good whether playing the run or getting after the quarterback.

The feeling is Bo Davis is making strides with this group.

The d-line is often in a traditional four-man front with both OLB’s having their hands in the ground. The XOLB, Ray Thornton, still drops some, but he also lines up as a 4-tech at times too.

Freshman wide receiver, Xavier Worthy, is repping with the ones. He’s playing inside and outside, and is often on the field with Jordan Whittington at the same time.

Though the o-line has had its hands full with the d-line, the offensive tackles are showing some fight. When asked who the best o-lineman was in camp so far, IT heard either Derek Kerstetter or Christian Jones.

One point of concern so far in camp is blocking from the tight end position. IT has heard Jared Wiley isn’t 100% healthy. We’re not sure how much of a contributing factor that is, as he struggled blocking in the spring as well.

Today is an off day after a pretty fast paced four day stretch. Practice resumes tomorrow morning.

I look for OL Connor to contribute before season is over. Commited to Texas and then slowly slid down the charts.

If they need a TE who can block give him a try.

Billybass

I’m hoping JaTavion can learn to block. I know that a lot of the skill of blocking is want to, but he is big enough, and if he learns to block, he will be the ultimate weapon.
