— I confirmed a report from Inside Texas that Omari Abor is showing renewed interest in Texas again. The five-star Duncanville EDGE has been seemingly focused on Ohio State but he told me he could visit if the timing is right once prospects are allowed to take trips again. Abor said it's nothing too serious right now, but he's definitely looking into the Longhorns and they will get some consideration.


— I don't want to get anyone too excited, but there is some buzz behind the scenes that there might be a crack in the door for five-star wide receiver Evan Stewart. Stewart hasn't signed to the Aggies yet, and Texas commits are all reaching out to him right now. Stewart has gone quiet and it would be very much him to create a little intrigue around his signing. Heck, I could even see him pushing it to Friday or longer. Technically, Stewart doesn't have to sign and could just enroll on any campus in January. Texas has a huge class. I think in the era of NIL and Transfer Portal craziness that it makes sense to go as big as possible.... Texas will undoubtedly have attrition this upcoming season.

The NIL stuff seems to have helped Texas and yet I still hate it. I'm all for paying players a stipend or extra stipend but NIL is just turning what was already the wild wild west into pure lunacy.

It's really thrown out even the plausibility of the NCAA being "amateur" sports anymore. I guess that was maybe already gone, but I think it's sad for the competitive landscape especially for smaller schools or those not in big markets.

Coaches are going to have problems imo. This is where leadership within the locker and among the coaches becomes critical.
Mix the NIL with the transport portal and its more likely to create divisions within a team.
And some of the players getting paid more than the coaches, just like the pros... kinda weird

I was responding to FROSTKING.
Trill had mentioned healthcare earlier and then referred back to injury issues.

And yes on your beloved signing day, posters responded to this. Maybe because the NIL is the first of other things to come. I guess you already know all the manifestations of what is happening.

AND NO, the NCAA requires they have health insurance. The school can and often does pay or help with injuries to help get athletes back to playing shape. But not long term. The NFL does have funds for long term care. So essentially an athlete playing a pretty dangerous sport can get permanently paralyzed and the physical therapy etc that is needed is not there long term. Especially with the crappy healthcare and insurance so many in the US have. Some of these kids and families can’t pay out of pocket long term.

actually, most of the money that the athletic programs generate go right back into the athletic programs. the real money for universities comes from patents and grants. that being said, i still agree that there are enormous benefits that these universities receive from their athletic programs.

Have you seen a disability plan for college players to even analyze?

Because the NFL does have a plan but it is notoriously shitty.
But it has been pushed for and is in the news.
The NFL does have disability insurance but 60% of the players do not take it (mostly rookies who dont make enough)

The NFL plan does not adequately cover the older players in many ways because they already have a hell of a lot of money and the amount of care needed goes up as one's lifestyle gets set at a very high bar.

The point is, the NIL basically covers college expenses and or goes way beyond in a dangerous game, where is the health plan for college players. I think this was what Trill was thinking about (and if he was not its still a valid point imo).

I personally thought the NIL would bring up a ton of other questions and the rules would be made as we move along. With this in mind I think it fits in with recruiting as its pretty clear to me for our team 5-7 + UT "charity" NIL means pretty damn great recruiting. Chance to play and money and we are possibly in the top 5 recruiting schools after our showing...? Its not entirely magic/great recruiting imo.

I haven’t heard anything either. Seems like everyone is taking a breather after yesterday. That was a CRAZY day ! And Longhorns pulled an awesome class, with more to come (at least Campbell). I saw some sites that had us ranked fifth, and that doesn’t include Ewers.
I gotta hand it to Sark and staff. That recruiting effort was off the charts ! Pretty damn impressive considering the season we had.
And once that Oline gets a little seasoning, this team is gonna score LOTS of points. It is going to be a lot of fun again.

thanks. nice to see texas kids staying home and texas schools stealing from other states. sark did a great job focusing on what the biggest needs in the SEC would be-getting big and strong in the trenches. starting that process now will make texas SEC ready from the start. it'll be interesting to see how great that texas o-line can be. and how ewers plays starting next season.

I completely agree with Texas kids staying home. Lots rather see them go to ANY Texas school than OU, Alabama, Ohio state etc. I enjoyed watching Baylor beat okie state.
And it will be interesting to watch Ewers development. At least he will have a fighting chance now that we are FINALLY getting an Oline. I’ve been watching our qb’s get pummeled every year for a long time. Never made sense to me why we always have had suspect olines. And that problem will get a lot worse when we get to the SEC.
I’m still not convinced that Sark is the answer, but he did pull a hell of a class considering our record.
And I really like the emphasis on the Oline.

If the product on the field has anything to do with recruiting, they should have spanked the hell out of us.
But then almost losing to Colorado, getting trashed by Arky, and losing to the Mississippi teams along with hated LSU... But then it can be argued they had the best WIN in the nation.
We had a really good recruiting year with a 5-7 record and losing to Kansas. Thank you NIL.
Clemson had a better year than we did and certainly has the rep but they seem to be getting clobbered in recruiting.
