i wonder why they even bothered starting demarco thenI think they planned on spreading the carries around more at the beginning of the season but after Demarco and the line got in a groove, the coaching staff didn't want to move away from something that was working. Also, nobody said that Randle was a better all around back last year, DJ was simply stating facts. Me, personally? I thought Murray was overrated last year. Randle and what's his face(other back up) weren't nearly as good at picking up the blitz though. Honestly, that's a bigger reason for why they didn't see the field more than anything.

Exactly. Nobody said Randle is better than Murray, but at the same time to say we "don't have a RB" is dumb too. The kid came through when his number was called, averaging 6.7 YPC on 51 attempts - 343 yards.. basically two games worth of runs as a lead back if you wanna think of it that way.
The kid clearly has talent, but like you said not picking up the blitz with a QB who could be one solid hit away from being finished is a good way to stay on the bench, especially when you have a workhorse like DeMarco out there. If he shows maturity and an improvement at picking up the blitz, I don't see why he can't take the undisputed lead from McFadden in camp and finish the season with 1200 or more yards behind the undisputed best line in football.

Overall, I really like the pieces that have been added over the last 3 drafts. Thank god Stephen finally put his Dad in his place and focused more on the draft and scouting.
The D-line should be solid assuming Gregory and Lawrence step up and earn starting positions over veterans Mincey and Terrell McClain. Putting Crawford in the middle last year was a success, and I expect him to be even better this year. You would then have Nick Hayden as the default weak link, which would be upgraded next draft.
The starting linebackers look good, but there is no telling what we're gonna get from Sean Lee. Rolando was big last season, but there's always the chance he becomes an issue or gets the nagging injuries again. Hitchens came in and played well, and showed he has a nose for the ball. He's going to have a hard time replacing Justin Durant's production, but I think he could given the opportunity. The Cowboys brought in a bunch of talent to compete here as well which is always good, as they have Jasper Brinkley, Andrew Gachkar, Kyle Wilber, Keith Rivers among a few others to push each other. Health will be the deciding factor here, but they do have a lot talent.
The backfield improved last year, but I don't see either safety as anything more than stop gap solutions. Byron Jones was drafted at CB but there is talk that he may eventually be moved to safety, so the jury is still out on whether one of the safety spots has been addressed, but if that happens we get a hole at CB. I have no faith in Mo' Claiborne ever becoming even a decent CB, and I've labeled him a bust since last year. Scandrick is capable of playing on the edge, but he's so much better playing in the slot. Brandon Carr was constantly out of position last year and lost confidence. We lost Sterling Moore who was really playing well at times last year, but we did hang on to Tyler Patmon at least. There are several new young faces to compete much like last year's battle, but there's no telling if any of this years youth will turn out to be serviceable at the least as was the case last season. I think DB is gonna be a top area of focus next draft.
Not really anything to say about the offensive line that hasn't already been said. If Chaz Green could develop into a starter, that's gonna be epic. Either way, they are gonna maul mother fuckers next season. Getting the gift of Collins was a beautiful thing :tu
Running Back is the weak spot on the offensive side of the ball, but props to the front office for avoiding the position and focusing on defense instead. I think w/ carries Randle is going to more than carry the load, he has a lot of talent and quickness and the best offensive line to open holes for him. If not a RB will have to be drafted next year.
Wide receivers 1-3 are great, and the corp is only gonna get better this year with some more experience under Devin Street's belt, not to mention the undrafted free agent signing of Antwan Goodley from Baylor which is gonna be a steal IMO. There will be some good competition in camp at spots 4 and 5. Tight ends are gonna be solid as long as Witten is playing, but this is put up or shut up year for Escobar. He needs to be ready to take over for Witten by next year, and he's not even the lock for 2nd TE at this point IMO.
Next season should be DL, RB, CB, QB as far as focus. Need to start grooming a QB for sure next season.

I don't necessarily think La'el beats out Ronald Leary for his spot minus injury, which is a real possibility based on last season. Leary doesn't make mistakes and he's the strongest OL they have..if anything, Doug Free needs to watch out cause Green is a swing tackle and can play LG if he had to anyway.

Agreed. I like Leary because he is a road grater. My issue is his degenerative knee. How long can his knee hold up?
So I absolutely think Free's days are numbered. Besides, I think Jerrah promised that he would be our future RT to get him to sign with us. He'd get more money as a RT than as a LG when he negotiates for his 1st big payday.
Given how Free has health issues, could be sooner than we think.

Yeah, the knee is the concern. The good thing is at LG he doesn't really have to move much, just hold his man up which he did last year like a boss to some pretty good opponents.

Given that Collins is already missing about 7 million, that first major payday is gonna be one for the ages assuming he lives up to his projection.
Jones says his best 5 lineman will start regardless of senority, so it's gonna be interesting to see who Collins will beat out for the job. My guess at this point will be Free, but he did start playing better towards the end of the season last year. He's gonna come out like a maniac because he knows he has a huge target on his back now from not one but two rookie lineman. Good time to be a Cowboys fan :tu (still feels strange saying that)

Seattle at least defensively, is the blueprint I believe Dallas is trying to emulate. I read somewhere that Seattle had like 11 LBers on their roster. That might explain why Dallas has so many as well. It is well documented that Marinelli also likes to come at OLs in waves, which keeps his Rushmen fresh (another Seahawk staple). We have another DL player that may come on like T Crawford did in Whaley. Whaley was on IR all year. Marinelli seems high on him. So high that they let former Pro Bowler Melton walk. My hope is that he reduces Nick Hayden's snaps significantly.
Now if Byron Jones can give us his best Earl Thomas III impression, we in there! :lol

He's not practicing in team activities, only one on ones. He can't practice in team drills until he signs the tender or a new contract. I don't think he gets his new contact this season, I think the team is happy w/ him playing under the franchise tag for another season because they are stuck trying to figure out what he's worth, and I doubt they want to use Megatron's contract as the measuring stick.
Gotta applaud Dez for making it known he's unhappy, but not being a little bitch about it and being negative :tu

Either way, I'm starting to think that unless Dez is willing to sign a fair and reasonable contract, we're going to franchise him this year, next year, and then maybe let him walk. At that point, he'd be ~30 and would probably start declining. The good thing is that we're going to be able to keep him for his prime years and then after that, it's all on him.

Do the Cowboys set a new tone for the organization and seek a sign and trade with someone, or back down and show the locker room that you can threaten them and they'll break? I personally think it's bullshit, pay that man what he wants. Just be smart w/ the contract and add a few clauses.

Should be interesting.Contract negotiations were able to continue into the season back then, not anymore. After July 15th, he can't even sign a new contract so it'd be pretty pointless to sit out any games. This is either all bluff, or Dez is getting some horrible advice.

It's because he's solid. He doesn't do anything that jumps out in the stats column, but he doesn't make mistakes either. But we need pressure, and he's not gonna create any.

Solid?
A solid NT can dip his knee and anchor a double team.
A solid NT can hold his ground against single blocking.
A good NT can force a double team.
He can do none of those things. Haydens claim to fame is his pursuit and chasing once the are past him at the poa. Those cutback lanes that backs saw all year were because he repeatedly got washed out. C combo block is a guarantee 2 yards of push on him minimum. What is really sad is when he is in on the nickel and they slide protection away from him and single block him.
He is the worst starter on the team and is of the order of Corey Proctor, Keith Davis, Lynn Scott, and David Arkin. Scrubadubdubdub.

Didn't you laugh about McClain too? In Dallas, I dare teams to put 8 in the box to stop the run. Dez, Witten, and Beastley will burn teams that do that. We got the best OL in football, not that junior college OL he played behind in Oakland. If they open the same holes Murray enjoyed running thru, there will be some pissed off Raider fans, because unlike Murray, he got the speed to take it to the house.
Simply put, he won't get pounded like he did in Oakland. This is contract year - I expect him to ball out.

I am reading about him having technique issues (i.e. not squaring up to pass block and ball control issues). Those issues are correctable with good coaching and more playing experience/film study.
I'm hoping a change of scenary and playing for his childhood team behind a good OL brings out the beast in him. My dream scenario: DMC and Randle forms a nice 1-2 punch. For short yardage, in the 4th quarter when DLs are already tired from getting pounded all game by our OL, 3rd and goal, and when we need to close teams out by running out the clock: insert C-Mike. He'll close out games for us with his punishing running style.
We're getting a ton of comp picks so to give up a conditional 7th is nothing. I can't believe y'all gave up on a 24 year old like that. Now we'll be the most physical team in the NFL and our RBBC approach just might work out now. Thanks Seattle. :toast

When you're getting outplayed by undrafted FA's it's a problem when you're on a win-now roster. He had two years and three camps to show up, and that is a lot for any position not named Quarterback. All the physical traits are there, perhaps he needs a change of scenery and the opportunity to step outside the shadow of a hall of fame RB. I think he is physically better than all of your current RB's, he just has to put the mental game together. I REALLY WANTED him to get it together on our roster. Awesome buy low opportunity, and yes, I see teams are now up on the Compensatory strategy like us :lol

He was serviceable as a Bill, but no one called him Beast Mode. He didn't breakout until he played in a scheme that fit his running style. C-Mike is a physical punishing runner that loves to play smash mouth football. That's the style JG likes to run as evidenced from last year with Murray.
C-Mike's "bad situation" was immaturity and playing behind a HOF RB. He will be given the chance to take over our backfield in the near future if he is willing to be coached up. I think you guys will rue the day you traded him.

Serviceable or wasn't shit - what's the difference? :lol Fact is, I heard nothing about Lynch until he went to Seattle. Now he's arguably the best RB in the game (next to AD and Charles). It took him to play on a better team that played a scheme that fits his skillset. Now C-Mike has that same opportunity. Only time will tell if he seizes it.

If you think Lynch wasn't shit in Buffalo you're crazy. I guess we'll agree to disagree there. I don't think Michael is of the same gene pool ability wise, but he certainly is really good waiting to happen, especially behind that line if he can get his head together. And he has always been Beast Mode, it's just when you're in Buffalo, ability gets lost on the public much like Eric Moulds.

4-6 Weeks for both. Gregory has rare speed on the edge. I'm so glad it was not an achilles injury as was first reported.
It gets frustrating with all the injuries in pro football. Gregory was beating the Giants LT and they guy did a cheap shot on RG after a run play was basically over. Unfortunate and unnecessary.
I have no idea what happened to Dez. Hopefully he can fully healthy - he has been dinged all summer long. At least he has time to get the hamstring right, but the foot injury is a big bummer.

We may have to do it differently until we get on track. Last year, we got 184ypg from our RBs (141ypg from rushing; 43 ypg receiving). Against the NY Gnats, they totalled 212 yards (131 yards receiving; 81 yards rushing). I'll take that kind of production - especially if it is from multiple RBs (RBBC). That way, we don't wear down one player. Teams will have to game plan for more than one back -which is good for us.
Randle, Dunbar, and McFadden all looked great coming out the backfield as pass catchers. Teams that don't have LBs that can cover will be in trouble if they get anywhere near 200ypg collectively.
It'll be interesting to see what C-Mike will bring to the table. I expect him to be activated within the next few games.

The good news was the o-line still looked solid. Holes were there. It was a good start overall. Not as good as you would hope rushing, but good overall production.
However with no Dez I have my concerns. I don't think anyone is scared of Twill and teams will really stack the box and force Romo to throw and guys like Twill to prove they are worthy of being worried about. Will be interesting to see how the RBBC handles a lot of focus on stopping the run.

Looks like longer now for Dez. Doctors have said 8-12 weeks and Jerry already said it will take a full 6 weeks for the foot to properly heal assuming no setbacks. That's 6 weeks to heal, then how much more time for conditioning/caution? They said he can start re-habbing 3 weeks after surgery, but it takes 6 just to fully heal.

Will be interesting to see how the RBBC handles a lot of focus on stopping the run.Trust me - I share your concerns. I just think Dallas might take a page out of Patriots playbook and let their short passing game be their running game. We have 3 players that look awesome when you get them in open space: Dunbar, Beastley, and McFadden. Like I said before, teams better be able to cover those guys - especially Beastley. Other than that flukey fumble, I thought he was great.
Just like a running game, short passes pick up yardage and eat up clock. That opening 17-play drive (that inexplicably ended in 3 points) ate up over 10 minutes. For the game, the time of possession was Dallas 37:10; Gnats 22:50 (that's without a 'dominant' running game - which proves my point).
I hate it that Dez went down, but it's not like we don't have other weapons to get the job done. Admittedly, a potent running game opens everything up. I think we'll find our groove running the ball soon enough.

They should still win some games with him in there. There will be a drop off obviously from Romo to Weeden and they will game plan for him as the other guy said but with that line and so on they should win a few and stay in the hunt. I wish I could have had a feed of the crowd noise at the sewer known as the Linc from yesterday's game. I would almost guarantee you that a chorus of cheers came from the trailer trash eagle fans when Romo was seriously injured - Fox would not provide that audio. For the second year in a row, a coddled, overrated former UT linebacker injured Tony Romo with a cheap shot. As a Texas Ex I can tell you Jordan Hicks is just the type of guy that contributed greatly to the implosion of the program - a coddled 5 star player with a sense of entitlement who spent more time on the shelf and in the tub than on the field.
A disgusting was on display again yesterday led by the criminal element of the Eagles fan base - fights in the stands - drunks running out on the field. Always the same thing up there. Forget about the fan of an opposing team sitting in the stands in that stadium. You literally endanger your well being. The mob in the stands is full of 5 foot 6 fake tough guys drunk off their ass and looking for a fight as long as there is a 20 to 1 ratio in their favor. There are some nice people in Philadelphia and in the Stadium- the minority of rotten scumbag Eagle fans give the whole group a bad name.
Jordan Hicks drove Romo's shoulder in the ground with the intent to injure him - the tape doesn't lie. When Jordan's 2-3 year NFL career is over with a torn ACL or broken hip socket, tears will not be shed for him by me.
Do I despise the Eagles and their fan base? Absolutely.

Agree with this. It's not a torn ACL. I could definitely see Romo returning against Miami, but Ndamukong Suh might make the Cowboys a little leery there.
Your schedule prediction is pretty spot on too. And we could easily beat the Seahawks at home considering they're a lousy road team that lost to the Rams. Their offense couldn't even do anything at home against last year's mediocre Cowboys defense. Then again, we could also lose one of the division games, even if they are inferior teams. By then, barring injury, our front 7 on defense will be:
4-3: Hardy+Mincey or Crawford+Lawrence+Gregory / Lee+Hitchens+McClain
3-4: Hardy+Mincey or Crawford+Gregory or Lawrence / Lee+Hitchens+McClain+Wilson or Wilber
4-2(-5) or 3-3(-5): Remove Wilson/Wilber or Lawrence/Crawford
If we're 6-3, 7-3, 8-3, 7-2, 8-2 or 9-2 when Romo returns, the Cowboys will be in prime position to take the NFC.

The Cowboys system will be good enough for 3 or 4 scores against the lousy Falcons' defense despite all the injuries. Whether they are field goals or touchdowns, may determine the game.
The other side of the ball is more interesting considering the Cowboys' hot start on defense, particularly against Philly. However, Matt Ryan is better than Sam Bradford, and they also have Julio Jones. The secondary will be tested for sure. Ultimately, this is the make or break year for guys like Claiborne and Carr that are paid handsomely but have underachieved in the past. I never really liked Scandrick much (he's out this year of course); true he was the kind of guy who wouldn't give up the HUGE plays (i.e., letting his man get behind him on the deep balls for runaway TDs) but he could always be counted on by the enemy QB to be ultra conservative, staying at least a couple paces behind his man which generally led to easy 7, 10, 13, 15 and 17 yard completions that often came on downs where the Cowboys desperately needed stops. Patmon has shown some positive signs. Barry Church is OK, not great. I really want to see what the rookie Byron Jones is made of. The main advantage the Cowboys have is their front 7, which will become elite once the injured/suspended armada comes back (not too long from now).
Final prediction: Falcons 24, Cowboys 17.

My prediction of ATL 24 DAL 17 got blown up by halftime, LOL...
Still think the Falcons will win but their defense needs to make some stops. The d-line has fought, but has lost the majority of the time and their secondary is really bad. Someone needs to make tackles on those short pass plays so guys like Dunbar and Beasley don't turn modest plays into 15 and 20 yard completions. Outside of that really bad INT (the most obvious "throw it out of bounds" play in the history of ever), Weeden looks like Brady today so far. Ryan has been pretty shaky, and the Falcons are lucky to still be in the game, on their first scoring drive they got away with 2 pick balls in the red zone and a number of low balls, and the second drive was set up by the INT. Still lots of football to be played and I expect Atlanta to come back and win.

The @ Saints game is a must win. And if they can't get it done without Brees on the other side and the Saints' lousy defense, this season is a cooked goose. Cooked goose is accurate. If the Eagles are 3–2 and the Cowboys 2–3 by the end of week 5, the Eagles will win the division and the Cowboys will be out. Next week's @ Redskins game will be interesting, as the loser will likely be all but knocked out of the division race. The Saints are a lousy road team even with Drew Brees, so the Eagles will likely win that one, one-upping the Cowboys in a potential tiebreaker. Overall their schedule is easier as they play last year's divisional "2" seeds from across the NFC. The Cardinals/Seahawks difference might be a wash, though the Lions/Packers one certainly is not.

I think if Dallas loses next week they should consider tanking. They're not going to beat New England. They might have a chance @ NY post bye week but Seattle is a definite no. Actually it's a season to early to tank. No elite QB's in this draft and the stud RB's are sophmores. If we do tank would love to get a 2nd or 3rd round QB like Kessler, Take Zeke Elliott or a top DB or LB ...
But to tank it all depends on if there is anything to play for when Dez/Romo return ...if they are sitting at 3-6 or 2-7 I say not worth it ...

Williams was doubled all night and barely had any catchable targets. Can't blame him for not getting many looks. The one he "dropped" was one that Yao Ming on a ladder would have struggled to catch, and probably would have been an interception if he hadn't at least attempted to make the catch.

Hell no. Not in the shitty ass NFC East.. They can still make the playoffs and have a healthy Romo and Dez returning with enough time to get in the groove.
They need to be more worried about the inconsistency in the defense opposed to their QB situation, the offense putting up 28 points is still plenty to win most any game as long as the defense isn't turning RB's into superstars every week.

Hell no. Not in the shitty ass NFC East.. They can still make the playoffs and have a healthy Romo and Dez returning with enough time to get in the groove.
They need to be more worried about the inconsistency in the defense opposed to their QB situation, the offense putting up 28 points is still plenty to win most any game as long as the defense isn't turning RB's into superstars every week.
crawford/lee just went out of the game at the worst time, tbh. crawford wasn't the same after he fucked up his arm

Thank goodness Lee's injury isn't a long-term one, and the defense has looked very good without him so far. Regardless of whether he plays the Pats game that's probably a lost cause without the full deck of cards on offense anyways. Lee & likely everyone else on both ends except Romo will be back for the following game (after the bye)... we just have to get this one to not go into the bye with a losing record.

Well season is over. Too many injuries. Might as well tank for a better draft pick.

Yeah dude that's what I've been saying all along. Saints are probably the worst team in the league. If we can't win this one, we won't win any game before Romo comes back. We'll have a losing record by then. Might as well redshirt Romo and Dez. Prevent further injury by rushing them back. See what you have in the reserves. Next year maybe we can get a top 10 pick.

My last year in Texas and the world gives me this chicken shit bull shit. Can't catch a fucking break out of 20. Not going to root for a team that can't go into the bye with a winning record. FUCK this defense, particularly the secondary. Barry Church can eat a fat dick. FUCK this planet!

In the long run a tank is best. Rushing Romo and Dez back to save this turd season makes no sense. Just beat Philly once more and dem skins 4-12 should get us a prime pick. get a DT, LB and RB with your top 3 picks.

yeah, and what about all the free agents? Will Witten retire? What about McClain? Romo a year older? everyone's going to be gone bro... and I'll be working 80 hours a week no longer in college so won't have time for football. this is the year that matters
