tbh if the Cowboys play the way they played today, Houston is gonna light their asses up. The offense was horrible...Romo couldn't hit shit until the 4th, and we couldn't run if our lives depended on it. Not looking good right now.

Cowboys are gonna turn it up a notch, they HAVE to

If we keep losing, there'll be nothing to have faith in...someone give Bill Cowher or Jon Gruden a quarter to call Valley Ranch.

The problem for the Cowboys is the same for the Mavs. Everyone makes excuses for the players. It always blamed on the coaches, the media, the refs. Until the players hold themselves accountable (which begins with the fans holding the players accountable), the results will always be the same for these teams.

Atta boy son, PREACH!! If they were to move the Cowboys to San Antonio they would make a strong statement for a 150peat.

We are a winning city, with a winning history, and just a bunch of winners all around.!! The Cowboys would feed off Duncan and his winning ways and win the SUPERBOWL!!!!!

Call me crazy but I think these kicks in the ass they received the past 2 weeks might have been exactly what they needed. After an off-season of hearing everyone suck their cocks, I'm pretty sure most of them got pretty damn cocky. Now that their backs are against the wall, we'll really see what this team is made of...

Cowboy Fan hysteria cracks me up.

If this were a baseball team, and they were 1 game back in the division with 14 games to go, you wouldn't see anywhere near the despair and hopelessness that Cowboy fans have this week.

But because there is a week between games, and because Cowboy fans are among the most emotionally irrational fans of any pro sports team, the season is over and the house needs to be cleaned.

I think they're going to lose next week and still win the division.

tbh there hard schedule doesn't help. If we go 0-3 we would have to really turn it around to even have a shot at the playoffs.
We still have games at Green Bay, Minnesota and Indy.

The Dallas Cowboys are 0-2 and the panic button is close to getting pushed…rumors are circulating that Jerry Jones has reached out to Jon Gruden to gauge his interest in the head coaching position..According to my sources in Dallas, Jones has lost faith in Wade Phillips and believes the players have tuned him out…Gruden, who has settled into a nice little broadcasting career, has often said he’d like to go back to coaching in the NFL one day…the guy loves football so much he even serves as an assistant coach for a high-school football team…Gruden would definitely be an upgrade over Phillips…but it ain’t happening this year..wishful thinking by a rabid fan base..-TO

Exactly...I was in the same boat...I thought this talent was enough..but damnit, there's got to be some discipline. If he's talking to Gruden, which apparently he is, he's got to know that Gruden ain't doing shit without being in control, which means maybe he's ready to do what it takes to win. Gruden is a happy medium between Phillips and Parcells...which is what we need.

While I agree with you completely about how entertainingly overreactive the Cowboys fanbase is, if this were a baseball team, they'd have 160 games left in the season. The Cowboys just dropped two of the more winnable games on their schedule. They're probably going to end up lucking out that the division is pretty weak this season. If you had another team in the division that was likely to win more than 11 games they'd probably have no chance of even making the playoffs after going 0-3.

And if the Cowboys went 6-0 before losing a game, fans on Monday after the loss would be worried that they were going to miss the playoffs or that the team was starting their slide. There's a reason Randy Galloway calls it "overreaction Monday".

But I'm saying that even if they were a baseball team 1 back with only 13 games left in the baseball season, the sky would not be falling.

I keep hearing numbers tossed out like only 22% of teams who start 0-2 make the Playoffs. Well, no shit. A lot of crappy NFL teams in league history have started the season 0-2, because they suck. Sort of skews the number.

The Cowboys, meanwhile, do not suck, and have played two horrible games that were still winnable in the last few minutes.

That's why I'm not that worried, the division just doesn't scare me and the Cowboys still play division opponents a lot more times this season. These losses hurt, no doubt. Our shot at a first round bye maybe be gone. But it all starts over in the Playoffs, and if this team is as good as most fans think it can be, they've got as good a chance as any NFC team when the postseason starts.

Watch them win the division at 10-6 and Overreactionary Cowboy Fan can find something else to complain about, like Romo's backwards hat or Dez Bryant being seen at Applebee's the Wednesday before the first Playoff game when he should have been focused on football.

That's a load of shit and you know it. Dallas is effectively done. You hit it right on the head. Only 22% of teams that start 0-2 go on to the playoffs and forget having any success once there. The teams that start out that terribly are terrible.

And contrary to what you may believe Dallas is one of those terrible teams. So all the preseason hype and praise and love for the Cowboys turns out to be a bunch of unwarranted bullshit. Dallas, at best, is nothing but a bunch of run of the mill players who were severely, heavily overrated prior to the season and are now taking their rightful place at the bottom of the NFL barrel where they deserve to be.

27-17 Houston wins Sunday.

I couldn't agree more. It's difficult not to be worried about a team that can't seem to beat two pretty easy opponents or to even take advantage of all the opportunities they've gotten so far. I guess for now we can keep rolling out that "they were the better team but lost" thing. Frankly, I think if you get beat by someone, they're almost always the better team.

Why not? Someone has to win a bad division, which is the basket most of your eggs are currently in. There's usually one near 500 division winner every year, right? That seems to match up pretty closely with the percentages.

IRVING, Texas -- David Buehler has hit half of his field goals in the first two games, which is a heck of a lot better than his performance in Wednesday's practice.

Buehler made his first attempt from 23 yards. Then he missed the next four before the media was shooed inside.

Wide left. Wide right. Wide right. Wide right. None of the kickers would have been considered long-distance attempts by NFL standards.

The kicker was a concern after he missed a key attempt in each of the first two losses, causing the Cowboys' coaches to significantly change strategy.

It appears to be a full-blown kicking crisis now.

:cry it was the fucking wind

IRVING, Texas -- The Cowboys could lose a game due to kicking, but Wade Phillips apparently won’t lose any sleep over David Buehler’s field goal follies.

Phillips essentially shrugged his shoulders when asked about Buehler’s poor practice.

“We dropped a couple of passes today, too,” Phillips said. “I’m concerned with those.”

Phillips might have just set an NFL record for faultiest logic.

Buehler made a 23-yarder and then missed his next four kicks. None of the misses were from longer than 40 yards. That seems like something worth worrying about, especially since Buehler missed a key kick in each of the Cowboys’ two losses.

If a receiver drops four straight passes in practice, my suggestion is that he shouldn’t be thrown the ball with the game on the line. If the Cowboys need a clutch field goal, Buehler is the only option currently on the roster.

A lot of coaches would consider other options if their struggling kicker went 1-of-5 in practice. Phillips offers excuses and encouragement.

“You know, the wind was blowing today,” Phillips said. “The further you get out, the tougher it is. But that’s part of it. He needs to make all he can.”

According to weather.com, wind gusts reached the mid-teens Wednesday at Valley Ranch. But it sounds like the winds of change won’t be blowing when it comes to the kicker.

Jay Ratliff's grandparents die in fire

By Calvin Watkins
ESPNDallas.com
Archive (http://search.espn.go.com/calvin-watkins/)Dallas Cowboys (http://espn.go.com/nfl/team/_/name/dal/dallas-cowboys) nose tackle Jay Ratliff (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/players/profile?playerId=8638) will miss practice Wednesday and Thursday to attend the funeral of his grandparents, who died in a tragic house fire last week in Hahira, Ga.
Arletha Ratliff, 74, died while trying to save her disabled husband, Willie, 84, during an early evening house fire Sept. 15, as firefighters tried to save the couple, according to published reports.
Authorities said Willie Ratliff, a double amputee, was in a hospital bed. Firefighters' efforts to get inside the house to save the couple were prevented by the intense fire, smoke and extreme temperatures.
"They found my grandparents and my grandmother was, I guess, holding my grandfather," Ratliff said, according to KRLD-FM in Dallas. "She climbed back in bed, like if they can't get him out, she's not leaving him."
The cause of death was smoke inhalation.
"It just took awhile to get in and locate them, and by that time they passed away," Hahira Fire Chief Dwight Bennett told WALB-TV.
Willie Ratliff was a World War II veteran, and Arletha Ratliff a hospital aide.
"Knowing they was in the house, you know, and they couldn't get to them, and get 'em out," Lemodis Lawrence, the couple's nephew, told WCTV-TV. "Just the thought of it really hurts me."
Authorities determined the fire was caused by an electrical shortage in a washing machine.
Jay Ratliff, who graduated from Lowndes High School in Valdosta, knew of the deaths before the Cowboys' game against the Chicago Bears (http://espn.go.com/nfl/team/_/name/chi/chicago-bears) on Sunday. The two-time Pro Bowler finished with two tackles in the 27-20 loss.
Ratliff will fly to Georgia for the funeral on Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones' private jet. He is expected to play in Sunday's game at Houston.
"That goes a long way with my family. He doesn't know how much I appreciate that. That means a lot to me," Ratliff said.
Ratliff also said of his teammates: "They've really been incredible in this time. Just all the support, cards, the pats on the back, letting me know I'm not alone."
Several of Ratliff's closest friends on the team -- Andre Gurode (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/players/profile?playerId=3565), Stephen Bowen (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/players/profile?playerId=10361) and Marcus Spears (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/players/profile?playerId=8435) -- declined to comment Wednesday, saying it was a family matter.
"It was really a tough week for him," Cowboys coach Wade Phillips said. "Football is certainly important but there are more things in life and so it was a real tough week for him. It was good for him to be around this football team in a tragedy like [that] cause he had a lof of friends and people supporting him."
Calvin Watkins covers the Cowboys for ESPNDallas.com. You can follow him on Twitter (http://twitter.com/calvinwatkins) or leave a question for his weekly mailbag (http://espn.go.com/dallas/mailbag/_/id/29517).

I believe the Cowboys will show up and pull it out. The Texans pass D is terrible. If Romo can be patient and make some reads he will have a field day. It will be close but Dallas will pull it out by 4.

Romo isnt the reason for their 0-2 start. the horrendous coaching is.
Romo can play a great game but the coaches will still find a way to F it up.

Tex-sons 38

I've seen both Cowboys games, and while Romo was off a bit in the second one, he still completed 66%. He's not the problem.

They are very undisciplined and make a lot of mistakes. I think bailing on the running game has really hurt this team. That and they haven't forced any turnovers(i think).

This is random but does any Dallas fan agree it was stupid for them to give up on Nick Folk after 1 bad season when he was a stud his first two seasons? I'm a Nick Folk fan for obvious reasons, but when he was one of the most reliable kickers in 07 and 08, it seemed like a knee jerk reaction for them to replace him just because he had a hip injury that made him suck for a season.

what do you mean by "you can't be bad every season"? He had 1 bad season because of a fucked up hip, outside of that he's been one of the most dependable kickers in the NFL since he was drafted.

Folk twice kicked a game-winning 54-yard field goal vs. Buffalo in his first year (the opposing coach tried to 'ice the kicker' on the first one). Perhaps you mean he can't do it anymore as a result of the hip injury. I wasn't even aware he was injured (if he really was, and it's not just an excuse). If he was, they definitely should have given him a shot after it healed up, he was awesome his rookie year.

you're right. he made a 52 yarder twice in Buffalo (not 54 yards).
those BARELY made it through. and those were to win the game.
if you recall, they wouldnt put him in to kick anything close to 50 yards because he just didnt have the leg strength. the Buffalo game was more of an exception because it was either that, or lose the game.

his kickoffs barely made it to the 5 yard line each and every time.
his leg was (relatively) weak.

and yes, he was injured that year.

never saw them in the super bowl but i certainly expected them to be a contender. their secondary, however, has turned out to be grossly overrated and that o-line is very average. that combo does not add up to a contender in any way shape or form. i see an 8-8 or 9-7 finish and depending on how the rest of the NFC fares, we'll see what that earns them.

Crayton Denies “Soft” Comment
Posted by nickeatman at 10/21/2010 10:44 PM CDT on truebluefanclub.com

Former Cowboys receiver Patrick Crayton, now in San Diego, vehemently denied a story that said he called current head coach Wade Phillips “soft” during an interview this week.

Making comparisons to his current head coach Norv Turner, Crayton admitted that he pointed out the differences between the two and said Phillips has more of a laid-back approach but never disrespected his former coach.

“I never said the word ‘soft’ . . . not once,” Crayton said Thursday night. “I’ve never said one negative thing about any of my former teammates. I have too much respect for Wade, and all of them and I would never say anything like that. I’m telling you, I was misquoted if anyone says I called someone soft.”

Crayton did not deny what was quoted in the original San Diego report.

"Wade is very, very laid back to where you'd want him to tighten up on some of the young guys and he wouldn't,” Crayton told a San Diego radio station. “And just when you think he is, he backs off and wouldn't say anything."

Crayton was also quoted as saying that Phillips has “nothing to do with the offense” and Jason Garrett runs that side of the ball.

“Yeah, I said that,” Crayton said. “That’s the question that was asked and I answered. I think that’s how it goes (in the NFL). But I’ve never said anything bad about Wade. I don’t think that way.”

In fact, Crayton has often said that Phillips was a big reason for the Cowboys’ turnaround when he arrived in 2007.

“Now Bill (Parcells) did a great job of getting the core of us together and installing discipline to our team,” Crayton said. “But when Wade got here, it was a like breath of fresh air. He let us just go out and play and have fun. I think they have different styles, but both have been very effective.”

Crayton, who said he plans to call Phillips and apologize about the comments, also said his current team has its own set of problems to deal with.

“I’m out here trying to help us win a game,” he said of his 2-4 Chargers. “I really don’t have time to make comments about all of that. I was asked a question and I answered it. But I never said some of those things and never meant to disrespect Wade Phillips. I respect him way too much to do that.”

despite all the struggles the Cowboys had, I'm surprised Roy Williams played well most of those games. I don't know if it's because the defense worries about Austin more, but he is actually showing his abilities and catching the ball. He's not speedy fast, but he getting consistent which I never thought I would say that of Roy.

What's with all the Debbie Downers on this forum? IMO Cowfans are forgetting 5 key factors:

With Romo down, the 3-headed monster that is the Cowgirls' running game will soon be unleashed on an unsuspecting league. Does any DC in the NFL have any answer for what is about to hit them?
The reins of the offense now rest in the safe hands of a cagey veteran (Kitna), being tutored by one of the best OCs in the game - Jason Garrett, who used to back up Troy Aikman (#2 on the GOAT QB list after Romo)
Overwhelming talent. Have Cowfans forgotten that their team has more pro bowlers than the rest of the division combined? Losing 1 future HOF is not as bad when half the team is bound for Canton.
Romo is expected back in time for the playoffs. All that matters is having Romo starting in the SuperBowl in front of thousands of crazed Cowfans.
The savvy one-man front-office of Jerral Jones and a motivational head coach in Wade Phillips will figure out the right roster moves and adjustments needed for the stretch run.

I expected more from the Dallas fanbase. Where are the hardcore fans like Da Boys Da Best and 90210?

as a Cowboy fan we better go 1-15. No excuses. If you're gonna suck atleast be great at sucking and let it mean something. Don't go 6-10 or 5-11, nobody cares. When you're 1-15 atleast people will remember you and then you can just have fun blowing the whole thing up.

I've never seen a team have so many great players one year that decide to completely suck the next. Half these guys all of a sudden look like they don't belong in the NFL

tbh, he had some weird unlucky interceptions but he also missed some key throws including a TD to Austin that was too high which cost us points.

He pretty much did what Romo has been doing all season. Move the ball, like we're the 1980's Chargers, between the 20s but fuck up when it's actually time to score

That series at the end of the half was painful to watch. They could have scored on two different plays. Had Barber stretched the ball out instead of just falling on it on the 3rd down run he would have scored and if Kitna would have cut inside on his scramble instead of going outside he would have an easy score. Tough breaks. I usually enjoy a nice Dallas collapse but this isn't even funny anymore. Even Ware looked like shit on defense.

It's like they were sayin on the Ticket postgame show. I'd rather have a Bills team fightin' tooth-n-nail to the finish and coming up short than see a bunch a heartless fucks running around, playin a 4 qtrs long game a' grab-ass.

It's very weird. I became a fan during the Campo days (the last time the Cowboys sucked) and those teams were not even close to the talent level of this team but atleast they played hard.

The sad thing is that it's our best players that are fucking up. Jason Witten has been our most reliable player forever but all of a sudden he looks like a rookie this year. Today, Kitna throws it too him and it hits his helmet without him even turning around.

Same thing with Jenkins. I can't imagine a cornerback looking worse than him. Bradie James and Keith Brooking look like they don't give a fuck anymore and the offensive line has way too many brain farts a game.

I can't wait to see what this team looks like next year. Hopefully the whole thing gets blown up

It's hard to lose every game of the season, especially if they're actually trying like someone else in the thread mentioned. Any given Sunday, I think they'll pull out a win somewhere. If not, the #2 pick isn't so bad. Maybe they'll pick a quarterback with the #1, which we don't really need anyway.

Which brings me back to a question I had in another thread. Assuming the Cowboys had their pick of the upcoming draft prospects, what position/player would have the greatest immediate impact? Who should they draft?

dallasmavsnfuego214

I think their RBs are overrated. It's time to start over.

MBIII is a shell of his former self. The end is near.

Felix Jones just isn't durable at all. When he's not breaking off huge runs he's not doing anything.

Tashard Choice has completely disappeared.

I like Demarco Murray out of OU, I think he'll be a hell of a HB in the NFL.

Thank god someone sees past the "3 headed monster" crap besides me.

Seriously, we don't have a running back who is NFL calibre at this point. MBIII is at the end of the line, it's almost painful to see him run, he needs to go immediately. Tashard Choice has become invisible. And for every big run Felix gets there's about 5 times he gets a 2 yard loss in the backfield. Of course, that's when he's actually healthy.

If we trot out the same "3 headed monster" next season I might puke.

Wade didn't know how to make his players accountable for their actions...apparently Jason does. There was an article in the San Antonio (or could have been Austin..not sure) paper about how when Garrett was playing under Jimmy Johnson, he would keep close attention to how he was running the team. And when he was given the reins, he spent the weekend hunting and fishing with Jimmy and Troy Aikman, and asking Jimmy all football questions, pad and paper in hand. Jimmy said "I thought we were going to be having fun, hunting and fishing, but Jason turned it into all football."

Having watched a team all season that didn't give any effort at times, I found myself rooting for the Lions on a couple of occasions because of their effort. They've got some good players, but just not enough. They had the game in hand and looked like they'd pinned the Cowboys inside the five yet again and everything just unraveled. The current coach yells way too much; I don't know how he can keep anyone's attention. I think they're playing at pretty close to their limit, which is all you can ask from a team. I understand the frustration at the front office and ownership though.

I think it may have more to do with people fearing for their job security, or looking to audition for starting roles/higher salaries in the event that Jason is kept on or a new coach is brought in. Just my opinion, but I think you get the same effect with any substitute in JGs place. But, I'm biased. I am not a fan of JGs play calling or decision making. I'd like to be wrong about the guy.
