Depth is depth thats retarded thinking. Dude had a lackluster season last year, not gonna try and be edgy on a message board and dismiss him prematurely though.
Crawford is a backup-level two gap DE who's currently being paid more than Derek Wolfe, one of the best at that position in the league. (Though the salaries even out next year)

I don't think the NFL is gonna do shit.. How does he get punished by his employer for something that didn't happen?
The NFL are teetering into dangerous territory of trying to be higher than the law, and I think Goodell knows fans are tired of his regime's bullshlt, evident in relaxing the TD celebration rules. Cris Carter is a dipshit taking a gamble on an "inside scoop" story
It honestly borders on tampering.....and it's the fucking commisioner of the sport doing it.

If you can't overturn this, you rest your vet starters, maybe have Dak play the first series to stay warmed up for next year, play only young guys and practice squad guys, punt away the season and go 0-16. A giant middle finger to Goodell and the #1 overall pick. That's what I would do.

Me? Nope. The worst thing was in 2010 when I posted a picture on here of a girl I liked at my high school (she was my age; 2 months older than me). As she was a varsity swimmer for the school, the picture was in her swim gear. I got a trip to the assistant principal's office for that one. And she didn't like me after that.
Also, around the same time I posted on here my grades for fall 2010 (all A's) in a semester with "guitardude27" written on it as proof.

Saints have as good a chance as any, too. But they play in a suddenly stacked division with 4 talented quarterbacks and 4 high octane offenses, and the Saints probably have the worst defense of the 4 unfortunately.
Division has come an EXTREMELY long way since the ghastliness of 2014 and might compete to be the best division in football since the other 2 best, the NFC East and AFC West, play each other this year so they can cancel each other out to some extent while the NFC South gets the super one-trick-pony AFC East.

No way Rico doesn't make the team. Either we keep 4 tight ends or trade Hanna (who has no chemistry with Dak, only Romo) for a late rounder, maybe a 2019 late rounder to a team looking for a blocking tight end. Swaim does everything Hanna did before the injury and Swaim is younger and faster.

Jaylon Smith made a heck of a tackle on 3rd down today in his first organized NFL action. Brother Rod Smith is also a damn good all around back, I'd give him the nod over Alf Morris. McFadden was doing AMAZING until the dumb fumble inside the 10 yard line. Cowboys have a very strong RBBC, Dak/Dez are still all pro, and the rest of the offense is just too stacked for other teams to handle. I think Cooper has the starting LG position on lock, he was outstanding tonight. OL remains the best in the league.
The starting defense looked outstanding. Things started to get a bit hairy once the reserves came in, but that's normal. In the secondary, our #2's out there are really our #3's, because the rookie DB class (our real #2's) have been out resting a bunch of hamstrings.
- Byron Jones
- Orlando Scandrick
- LB corps... (might be the best 4-3 LB corps in the league, not kidding) and we were missing our best in Sean Lee tonight
- Starting defensive line (Lawrence, Collins, Paea, Mayowa)... particularly in the running game
All looked fantastic tonight. The Colts didn't get a first down until most of them were sat for the rest of the evening. Of course they were missing Andrew Luck, but still. Tolzien is a capable NFL backup QB and the Cowboys defense dominated. Love to see more of this, and, of course, no injuries.
Oh, yeah, and Cooper Rush needs to be the backup QB this season. Kellen Moore sucks ass. The shitty announcers blamed his bad play on bad receivers, but Rush made those same "bad" receivers look pretty darn good tonight. That's all folks.

seriously though, I'm definitely beyond excited for Smith. He definitely has serious potential but it's still just preseason. The defensive line is still the same as last year so I can't say I am especially excited this season considering the Zeke suspension and a brutal schedule.
Also, too early to write off Moore as a backup, since he was out all season, but he better get it together soon.

Schedule is overrated. Raiders are legit, but the AFC West in general is criminally overrated. Denver is a 7-9 team, maybe 8-8 at best. And the NFC West just stinks ...badly... outside of Seattle, of course.
Defensive line did add Paea at NT and if Lawrence is healthy that's huge for us. The first team defensive line was good, the Colts couldn't run until the second quarter. But the Cowboys have outstanding LB play... Smith, Hitchens, Wilson (if not suspended), veteran Durant is still around, but then you add in Lee... not a whole lot of teams have that kind of LB depth and talent.
Unfortunately we may lose Hitchens to FA next year and Durant to retirement, but Lee -- Smith -- Wilson is damn good for the foreseeable future

Moore should be promoted... to junior assistant offensive coordinator.
As far as playing goes, he's kind of like me when I played high school JV basketball. Amazing at X's and O's and getting other people to execute, mediocre at executing that en practicum physically himself/myself. I was the 5'8" white point guard who screwed up the play or committed a turnover even though I knew better, hell I helped design those plays myself... Moore is the undersized QB who messes up when he knows better...
...I would go "oh shit" and try to improvise, dribble around or drive and dish to someone else, but the trouble is, I was lousy at physical execution. At basketball, I was at my best at pick-up games where there were no plays or coaches watching me like hawks. The problem was, there was just that kind of a mental-physical lag, idk maybe it's genetic.
And Moore has the exact same problem.
Whereas Rush just has "it" sort of like what Dak had last year. He isn't Dak of course, he's a less mobile more traditional QB, but he's got more size than Romo and he looks a lot like Carson Wentz. We must keep him long term.

If Kellen Moore hadn't gotten hurt, we'd have Myles Garrett or Solomon Thomas on the team instead of Taco Charlton.
And we'd be talking about the "potential" for Dak Prescott to showcase what he can do in more regular season action than the limited snaps he had in 2016 after the team was well out of the playoff hunt.

Pretty solid win. Impressed with the new young guys on defense. Would have been tougher facing a 100% ODB. But still pretty encouraging.
Dak was a little off. Would have loved to see him hit Dez in the endzone but threw way high. Also, some crazy playcalling. Throwing three times in a row from short TD distance.
As much as I question him still being around, Williams looked good making catches.
1-0 after a game that I thought was going to be a struggle to win.

Not bitching about Dak's performance, it just looked like Garrett was calling plays as if we still had Romo and Felix Jones instead of Zeke. THAT era. So we're at the 2 yard line... pass, pass, pass, kick. What happened to our new bread and butter?
Lawrence clearly the best pass rusher on the team when healthy, he's on pace for 32 sacks haha. My prediction all along was 16.5 sacks for him this year and a fat new contract or franchise tag, I'm sticking with that.

I wouldn't stay we're missing starters on defense.
Jourdan Lewis wouldn't be a starter at this juncture except maybe as a dime back. David Irving is Lawrence's LE backup, probably will put Crawford (who gets zero pressure at all from the naked eye test) out of a job soon. Damontre Moore is Mayowa's RE backup but has the best chance to become a starter out of all the missing guys, there's a chance he might be better than Mayowa at RE. Anthony Hitchens... was never really a starting quality MLB, but we had to make due after Rolando McClain got banished from the league. We now have a real elite one in Smith so Hitchens isn't getting that job back. He might get some starts over Damien Wilson at SLB (they're pretty closely matched) but that's it.
My only issue with the secondary is Jeff Heath and Nolan Carroll, I don't think either one of those belong in the starting lineup. More Awuzie and Xavier Woods.

great win last night fellas. dak was efficient and played mistake free. playcalling was questionable a few times but i'm 100% sure we'd lose that game with romo back there. he would have thrown at least 2 INTS.
defensive looked legit for the first time in a long time and we're missing starters:wow secondary did a great job, jaylon smith is the real deal...man i love this team. i love being a cowboy fan!

Dez had a bad game and the "jackrabbit" or whatever the fuck the CB is for NYG got away with murder...Witten and Bailey stepped up, even the Butler. Dez makes a few more catches and this game is a blow-out, but Dak missed a few too.

The mobile QB with a great RB, best O line in the NFC, HOF TE, COLE BEASLEY....and Dez.
All they lack is a stud pass rush.
By the way, Tony Romo is great in his new job.
Jerrah keeps bringing in these guys with baggage. I don't get it...

That era still gives me nightmares. My favorite was them doing goalline fades from the 2 to Martellus Bennett that never worked. They must've been 0/100 on that play

Late in seeing this, but that's a deceptive comparison.
Dak walked into a mega-stacked team loaded with weapons at the skill positions and the best O-line in the league. All he was asked to do was manage the game.
Wentz had a terrible O-line that got injured down the stretch of the season, bad receivers, and a defense that completely fell apart after Week 7. Wentz had to throw 148 times more than Dak did last year. That's 148 more chances for opposing defenses to expose a young rookie's flaws. In Wentz's case, it was some lingering bad habits in his mechanics that reappeared down the stretch of the season as the Eagles' collapsing defense and lack of talent on offense took their toll. He stopped moving his feet, stopped rotating through his throws, and his throwing motion started taking too long:
http://igglesblitz.com/2017/07/evaluating-importance-consistency/
The good news is that these are all fixable and he has a high football IQ. I still think he will turn out to be better than Dak. He just hasn't had the luxury of starting out on a stacked team that could hide his flaws.

Agreed. 4-12 including 1-11 with QBs not named Romo. Though they were 12-2 with Romo in 2014 and 0-2 without him that year.
That said, Wentz is the best QB the Eagles have had since McNabb, and looks incredibly talented as well. He's just more of a gunslinger and thus mistake prone than Dak is. Wentz cleans up his stupid mistakes, like throwing backwards to Agholor in motion on a screen pass or a pass to the flat to a 5'8" back who's being shadowed by a 6'6" defensive end with speed and smarts... Eagles will be scary long-term as well. It's the Giants who will have major issues once Eli Manning is gone, and the Redskins who will really be horrid for a long time if they lose Cousins.

mega stacked? great OL? sure. but some numbers suggest Raiders had a better OL
dez was hurt last year and imho right now is the most overrated Cowboy based on salary. he is making top 3 WR money but providing 12-15 th production at best. zeke is a stud that helps but after that we have past his prime Witten and midget beasley as daks reliable weapons

If you don't count right tackles, Oakland probably has the best offensive line in the league. But our starting RT has been something like bottom 10 in the league for a few seasons now.
It took me.a while to believe in dak given the strong OL, dominant ground game, and above average receiving group, but he continues to play well week in and week out. I think he's pretty accurate but doesn't really throw with anticipation very often (rarely needs to). He's mobile but more importantly is smart about when to use his legs, and doesn't overuse them.
IMO he'll be a good qb for a long time, and if he's able to start throwing with anticipation, make more calls at the line, won't really have any weaknesses to speak of. But whatever flaws he does have is currently being hidden by the Cowboys personnel

Which is bad bad BAD, because all of the best pass rushers in the AFC West play left edge. Moving a guy like Penn to RT might actually be a good idea for that reason.
Demarcus Lawrence says see you in December!
ELE bet that he has more sacks than Mack by the time the DAL-OAK game rolls around?
Welp, Mayowa is average but he's better than you thought he would be. Got robbed of his first sack of the season (had 6.5 last year) near the end of the game the other night because the refs ruled it an incomplete pass even though Eli's knees were already on the ground.

They have a fringe top-10 QB who is only getting better (I think he's better than Dak considering how he has no running game), a great passing attack and a great defense. The main concern is their lack of a running game, they have some new interior linemen in there that can pass protect well but can't run block. I watched the whole PHI-KC game and PHI was a couple bounces away from being in the driver's seat of that one. KC seems more lucky than good honestly, but that home advantage can't be overlooked.

Maybe. It's early. I just don't buy into Philly being that good yet. They beat a crappy Redskins team and lost to a pretty average Chiefs team. They should beat NYG. The Chargers aren't great but that should test their defense across the board as well as their passing game. If they're 4-0, I'll buy the 10 wins. In fact, if they're 4-0, they could easily get to the Broncos game undefeated or 6-1. But just hard to imagine with that shitty run game.

So many holes in that post my friend...
1) The Redskins are not crappy, they're near average. Cousins still has it, particularly in the vertical game. Thompson is quietly becoming a star, like the second coming of Darren Sproles. Defense is spotty but still makes plays and they still have Norman & Kerrigan. They should be around .500 all year, give or take a win or loss.
2) Chiefs pretty average? Lol... living under a rock the last few weeks much?
3) How could they be 4-0 or undefeated, ever? They lost to the Chiefs already.
I think they... sweep NYG, split Cowboys, split Redskins, beat Chargers on the road, Broncos at home, Raiders at home (Christmas day weather game, sunny Cali team will be sluggish in the cold), crush the Bears, Cards, Rams and 49ers, and lose in Carolina and Seattle.

Redskins losing to the mighty Raiders won't make them "crappy". They're "average".
And then they play each other week 4... of course KC wins. KC should be 4-0. Skins will be 1-3, but their game after that is against the lowly 49ers.
Overall I think they'll be around 8-8, 3rd place in the division and Cousins will finally get paid because he'll have a 30 pass td season and a ton of yards and the blame will fall on the defense for losing a bunch of close games to better teams.

Yep. I was right about Lawrence all along. Last year was a fluke bad year because he was playing through a stress fracture in his back. It's all better now after a hypermodern experimental surgery he got in the offseason and he's looking like one of the very elite pass rushers in the league.
Statistically alone at the top as the single best pass rusher in the NFL after 3 weeks in both sacks and pressures, and 2nd in QB hits. Amazing. But thank you for acknowledging me. I am pretty smart sometimes you know.
You can't look at his 1-sack 2016 he played on a broken back and hold it against him. Ziggy Ansah and others had a real down year last year. Many great pass rushers have a down year, especially early in their career, generally caused by a random injury. It's okay. he's fine now.
I'll stick with my prediction all along that I predicted in the springtime... 16.5 sacks for Lawrence. He's obviously on pace for 32 and not going to sniff that, that's just plain stupid, but he's going to be a top 5 NFL pass rusher for sure.

he did get 1 sack but the pass rush wasn't there and the secondary played way too soft and gave up way too many easy quick throws

Well he was credited with a sack. It wasn’t a clean one. The OL isn’t what they were last year and they got boned by a bad holding call. Should have been all tied up. I can’t believe jerry stood by and let his whole secondary leave and didn’t try to replace any of them. Revis anyone? At worst he can play safety. Last year they would have won this type of game. They seem to have problems in a lot of places right now. OL, no pass rush, no secondary and pretty weak WR play. Williams dropped two key passes. They need a speedy burner who can stretch the field. Dez isn’t that guy anymore. He’s like what Keyshawn was late in his career. Big, over the middle, possession type wr.

Expect Lawrence to bounce back big next week against the Packers' backup right tackle, Mccray or the other guy.
Rams' RT Rob Havenstein is one of the better RTs in the league, and you can't put him on the other side because Whitworth is arguably the best pass protector at LT in the NFL and has only given up a grand total of 1 pressure and no sacks or hits through the first 4 games (the one pressure was today vs. Mayowa).
No way are the Cowboys losing 2 in a row both at home... Way too much pride, especially after the way the last 2 playoff years ended against the evil Green Gay Pukers.

Cowboys can easily lose two in a row at home if they quit running the ball again. It's ok to run twice in a row in the second half. I don' know if it is shitty playcalling, or Dak keeps changing the play, or both, but it needs to stop. You're not helping the D by going three and out.

This. Especially with the hole in the middle (no Sean Lee) but Lee will be back by next week. But you can't go 3 and out after the other team's offense scores, even on a long field goal drive, that's too much pressure for the defense. Even Seattle's #1 NFL defense has struggled this year when Seattle can't run the ball or get a first down.
Watch last night's Seattle game. The first half, Seattle struggled on offense and the sorry Colts dominated TOP, and thus dominated the game. In the second half, Seattle got back to vintage Russell Wilson/running ball, ground out a couple long TD drives on the ground, and the Colts fell apart and the Seahawks ran away with the game in vintage Seahawk fashion, the defense was flying around making plays because they had ample time to rest.

Yep. Pretty good blueprint on how to beat the CB. But Gurley is probably elite. They should take care of the 49'ers and Redskins. KC and Atlanta could be trouble depending on the Falcon's receivers being healthy. But likely still looking at .500 after the next 4.

Gotta beat Green Gay at home. That's the big game, for morals, confidence, pride, and standings.
Atlanta on the road would be nice to win, but okay to lose because there's no real rivalry or bad beef with them.

I've been an on again off again critic of Garrett's, but it may be time to go in a different direction at HC.. The lack of fire is one thing, but who's call was is to let these two clowns sit over there and allow dude to T off on Dak all game.. Not only is that a retarded in game strategy, you're risking your QB getting injured for the long term not protecting his blind side. If you're gonna allow your QB to be practice dummy, then put in the backup at least.. Just a really shitty display IMO

this is what he's always done. He's a robot who's pre-programmed to do the same thing week in and week out until he faces heavy criticism. he thinks he can stick anybody in there and they'll magically do the same job. I also think the game moves too fast for him, I've yet to see him one time make any kind of midgame adjustment that helps the team win.
i'd bet my bottom dollar the GarrettBot goes 8-8 again this season

Offense ain't shit without Zeke. Defense ain't shit without Lee. Special Teams ain't shit without Bailey. Jason Garrett may be a good motivator, but it seems he can't make simple decisions and adjustments. At least with Parcells you felt like you had a chance to win every Sunday. With Garrett it feels like a miracle every time we notch a win tbh.

You know I'm sort of lukewarm about tanking in the NFL unless you need a franchise QB ( too early to tell in or case). It's not like the NBA where you have to hit a home run (top 5 player) to be a contender. Drafting 16th could get you the 3rd best player at a position which could make a big difference.
plus, free agents like going to teams that can contend. Much better chance of being a favorable destination as a competitive 8-8 team as opposed to a shitty 5-11 team who fell apart when one guy got hurt

Tbh the Cowboys don't really even need to try and tank to lose games.. Just keep this up. As far as free agents the Cowboys quit paying them after the Brandon Carr debacle, so I expect next years growth to be from within

Other than a big nose tackle, it's hard to tell what this team needs since both sides of the ball look relatively decent when Sean Lee/Ezekiel Elliott are playing but completely fall apart when either of those guys are missing. IMO, it seems obvious that Garrett is the problem here but he's unfireable so I'm not sure how you address it from a personnel standpoint.

Football genius imo
But clearly, giving Jones the freedom to make that decision himself worked out. In fact, letting his teammates know ahead of time might have hurt the play. They might have acted differently in setting it up rather than convincingly selling the reality of the punt. Jones saw a natural lane and he took it
