Yea I don't see Hardy back next year either unless it's on an extremely friendly contract, which is doubtful. Likely going to roll with D-Law and Gregory on the edges and look for some depth through the draft or via Free Agency.

Stupid idea. He'll probably be there in the 2nd round, and we need to go all in it to win it now. Future is second priority behind winning now. I'd say shore up our surroundings with this year's draft and then likely draft a QB with our late 1st or late 2nd round pick next year.

Best idea is to draft Treadwell, but we can probably get him with a trade-down. A top priority this year should be drafting or picking up a HUGE dominating nose tackle and switching back to the 3–4. Nick Hayden is gone and rightfully so. Gregory will go to waste in the 4–3. Re-sign McClain and have him and Lee dominate on the inside. Lawrence moves to the D-Ware OLB role of furiously rushing the passer and containing side runs. Gregory (the smaller OLB) rushes the passer or drops into short/intermediate coverage, because he's fast but too weak to play DE against OT's and OG's on a consistent basis. Move Crawford to DE, and we have plenty of other good, strong DE's to play on the other side/back up Crawford, even if we don't re-sign Hardy. Re-signing Hardy would be awesome though. We also need an enforcing strong safety (Byron Jones is great at FS), either in the draft or free agency because Church just isn't that good.

I may be wrong about Wentz at #4, but he ain't lasting to the 2nd round. Remember, he's being coached by Red right now. If he likes what he sees...

Didn't Treadwell have a bad leg injury? I'd stay away from him.

And since Marinelli been DC, we haven't drafted a DT in the 1st round (last time we drafted one this high was Russell Maryland #1 overall). I do believe we need to get stout on DL, but knowing Jerry, not until 3rd round or later.

I want Bosa. If he's not there, I want either Ramsey - to pair with Byron Jones at safety or Hargreaves to replace Carr.

Bosa is only worthwhile if we moved Lawrence and Gregory to OLBs and converted to 3–4. Otherwise, we're stacked at pass rusher and need to improve elsewhere. Nose tackle is far more important because Terrell McClain is decent but hasn't really proved himself.

Agreed on the DT points. Alabama and Ole Miss both have DTs that I would love to have in Dallas, I just don't trust the FO to use a "premium pick" on one. This despite the fact that you win games starting from the trenches.

Disagree on the DE points. Gregory had 0 sacks all year. Tank Lawrence had about 9, but how many of those 9 were the results of Hardy taking on double and triple teams? Hardy also had < 10 sacks. In other words, no one in Dallas strikes fear into offenses. Maybe Hardy if he gets his head together, OTAs, full training camp, and 16 full games played. The other 2? They aren't that good...yet. If Bosa is there you take him - even if you re-sign Hardy. Look no further than the past front 7s of the Giants, Patriots, Steelers, and now Panthers and Broncos - to see what it does for a defense.

If Bosa is there and we take him, even if we get a good DT/NT available in the second round -- how many other holes does that open up? How do we upgrade our secondary? We're in dire need for a quality SS, and we could use a pretty good CB if Terrance Mitchell doesn't pan out (though I think he will). Would like an upgrade over Hitchens if we're going to stick with the 4–3, too, and we still need a running back

nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo lol that's the worst idea. Probably the position of least need on our whole team other than OL, K and P. Escobar is decent and he'll be cheap to keep after next year because he's probably going to miss the first few games or so of next year (or at least training camp) and Swaim/Hanna are our other options who are waiting in the wings. Surely at least one of the above will turn out to be good. We don't need 5 tight ends on the 53 man roster.

After three more weeks of consideration, Dallas Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo is leaning more toward undergoing a Mumford procedure on his left clavicle than attaching a plate over the mending collarbone, according to a source.

The Mumford procedure is where a portion of the distal clavicle is shaved off or removed.

Not surprised the Cowboys picked him up as he had the best games of his career against the Cowboys. He was pretty bad last year, and don't think the Cowboys running system doesn't fit his style of play even if they have a pretty good offensive line. Think Jones will be the better running back for the Redskins system anyways and can catch from the backfield. Good luck to Morris, just not against the Redskins lol.

Compared to a RB? A million times yes.

Compared to Ramsey? Tougher, but yeah I'd take Bosa. He's the safer pick because he's been a stud for years, is completely NFL ready, and has a greater positional value. I think if we're shooting to compete while Romo can still play, he'd have been the BPA. I'd have been really really happy if we got him.

IMO Ramsey's full potential was still at CB. He might have been a better safety this year, but he fits the mold of today's NFL superstar corner. That's why you're drafting him so high. He'd have gotten a little time to develop here since we're not immediately competing for a championship or anything. It's always nice to have guys that can play multiple positions too cause of injuries. (we know that w/ byron jones...)

Romo, Lee, Bailey, Witten and the OL (not 100% sure on Collins yet, but definitely the young LT, C and RG tandem) & Barry Church are all very high character guys, Byron Jones seems that way too... it's not all negatives.

As long as the defense can be as good as 2014 (middling, and that was without Lee and no legit free safety like Jones) we'll be contenders this year... we have everything you could ask for in an offensive core except for maybe a top tier WR2 or WR3, but that's just grasping at straws.

When healthy, we are top 5 or better in::::

QB
OL
RB1
RB2 (debatable, but Morris was used incorrectly last year and the ZBS should treat him well again)
WR1
TE1
PK

... Almost all you can ask for offensively. Our holes are still QB2 (duh!), WR2/3/4 etc, TE2 (though Witten doesn't get hurt and the other TEs are mostly used for blocking) and possibly RT (least important on our OL though Free has improved, he has gotten older and will need to be replaced... will Green be good enough?)

Our offense can easily be 2010/2011 Packers good and if our defense isn't playing a high percentage of the snaps they should be good enough to hold the fort down, at least until the pass rushers come back. At least we have Anthony Hitchens who plays a solid MLB so we're alright there. SLB is a bit of a hole, Kyle Wilber is so-so and we'll probably see Damien Wilson a bit as well -- but the SLB plays less than 40% of downs because we're a heavy nickel team... here's to hoping Terrance Mitchell gets a fighter's chance at NCB because I think he can be something special.

no... Demarcus Lawrence is a RKG (good guy) who got thrown out with the bathwater by the NFL... he took prescribed painkillers for his back pain from the recent surgery, GUARANTEE you that he doesn't get suspended (or it gets appealed and overturned) if he's not on the same team as Gregory/McClain this offseason and Hardy all last season.

Moore is bad for the Cowboys, prefer Dak (next Russell W with more experience) if he can throw his running would be huge for our offense given our OL and RB situation... could be the next Wilson/Lynch honestly except with a better OL and a real #1 receiver (albeit a worse defense).

Moore is particularly bad for the Cowboys not just because he's bad but because he's a lefty/southpaw QB which makes Tyron Smith relatively useless and 32 year old stiff Doug Free the blindside protector... that is bad for us.

The main argument against taking EE so early in the draft is that RB's are extremely injury prone, have short careers, and good-not-great runningbacks are a dime a dozen.

Dallas should have taken Ramsey, Bosa, or Buckner, signed a cheap veteran like Forte, and waited for next year's draft class where they could get way better value at RB in what may be one of the strongest RB classes ever. There are at lease 4 superior backs in CFB - maybe as many as 6.

I was just telling my boys last night that the front office almost fucked up several times. In the draft they wanted to trade up for Paxton Lynch, tried to get Connor cook. Then in the off-season, jerry raved about Kellen "noodle arm" Moore, then when he went down, they tried to bring in nick foles smh.

Exactly - ultimately, no one remembers how a team gets somewhere (if Dax plays amazing, no one will cite the stuff above), but man, pro sports are weird.

Yup and as good as he has looked, I hope Romo stays healthy and Dak uses this year to learn the system and work on his game.

What do you think about the run game? I wanted Jalen Ramsey and it looks like we should have picked him. Zeke is a swagboy so I support him but Morris looks good.

I called the Zeke pick in the draft; so I understood the logic. It was both a ticket sales thing & a talent thing. Ultimately I think the run game is going to be something to behold. That was before Morris showed well. With Zeke in the fold and a high quality back up to spell him or replace in the event of injury this offense is going to be nuts.

It's hard enough to stuff the run vs Dallas already and now they have healthy Romo/Dez to spread defenses out thin and a legit, young stud at RB.

I know people think you can put anyone behind that o-line and have success and that RB's have short-life spans; all true. But in the now, a great RB behind that o-line is something you just can't pass up on and it seems like Dallas has a great RB. Whether he ends up being a longer-term "value" or not is not the question; it's about trying to win now and Zeke gives you the best shot IMO.

He will have more of an impact than any defensive player they could have drafted because of the situation IMO.

I agree.. Marinelli and the line coaches will get the most out of whatever patchwork defense we're left with, and we'll get better as the suspended players return. Assuming our offense returns to what it was the year before last, a middle of the pack defense should still be enough to win them a lot of games.

Yeah....he's legit. I watched every snap he's ever taken in College (you can safely call me biased though), but he did break EVERY record at Mississippi State. And I do mean EVERY record. Was leading the Heisman at one point and got my squad to their first #1 ranking in school history....plus he won the most games in school history. And you've got to remember...it's Mississippi State. We don't get 5 star recruit after 5 star recruit here. He got a DUI right before the draft....that has a lot to do with his draft position.

He went against SEC defenses also. That's the best competition you're gonna get in College. BTW....we had the worst Offensive Line in the SEC. Give him an O-Line as good as the Cowboys...........Gud Lawd.

Now let's talk about his on the field play. He's a workhorse and born leader. Like I said last week...the back shoulder throw is his bread and butter. He's $$$ with that throw. And he is a POCKET PASSER. He's very capable of going through the progressions quickly. He can scramble and stiff arm a DB/S if necessary, but Dan Mullen also tried his best to keep Dak in the pocket.

It's just goes to show you - I don't think there is anything more difficult in all of pro sports than drafting QBs. It's wild where the great ones come from seemingly compared to the accolades QBs get in college. Projecting most QB's from college to the pros' seems impossible.

Yeah a lot of it is skill but a lot is luck if Dak goes to another team with a crappy offense line who knows what happens to him. But have to say I know this is early but I think we have found Romos' replacement the kid has that "Something" that makes him better then other players.

As far as running back this year I would go with Alfred, Elliott, Jackson, McFadden - I would put Dunbar on PUP or release him. As to the future just keep ******,Afred, and Jackson and get real FB.

Win a lot of games? 10? lol, brain is poisoned by last year and the 8-8 era. Now injuries can always bite us in the ass AGAIN, but the law of averages would dictate otherwise. An offense as dynamic and powerful as ours combined with a middle of the pack D is good enough, historically, to contend for and even win Super Bowls (think 2006 Colts, 2009 Saints, 2010 Packers, 2014 Patriots). The sky is the limit for the Cowboys this year, barring injuries.

Speaking of the defense, I don't think it's going to be patchwork at all, except for maybe at the DE position specifically until Lawrence (at least) gets back. Call me a sinner but David Irving looks even more impactful than Lawrence (but he rested yesterday). Lawrence is awesome though, he's pissed that the NFL threw him out with the Gregory/Hardy/McClain bathwater for taking his back pain meds & he's going to push 15 sacks even in only 12 games.

The other DE position is a large question mark for the first 4 games. Is Benson Mayowa that good, as the coaches are raving about, and just played in the wrong scheme in Oakland? We already have revived the careers of at least one or two ex-Raiders castoffs from that lousy franchise (Brice Butler comes to mind), can we turn Mayowa into a top half or better NFL DE who can get consistent pressure and some sacks?

Shaniel Jenkins looks like a really good backup DE option, knack for getting around OTs and getting to the ball, definitely hope we keep him.

I've seen enough of Ryan Russell and I say we cut him or make him a practice squad guy for now. The dude just isn't disruptive to the enemy offense, sorry.

What I'm VERY enthusiastic about, for a change, is our interior lineman (DT) corps this year. T. Crawford, M. Collins, Thornton and T. McClain with J. Crawford a good utility guy who can play all along the DL very well in limited stretches. That's a very solid upper-tier corps that will get push up the middle and, most importantly, consistently stuff runners with A-gap ideas forcing backs to try to run laterally (particularly Thornton/McClain, so glad to have finally jettisoned that Charmin soft loser Nick Gayden in the middle). And the pocket will actually move backward this year, 3-techs will pressure QBs and Crawford/Collins will have sack opportunities as well as the DEs depending on who OLs choose to double. It's going to be awesome, really. Not as awesome as if we had a proven Pro Bowl pass rusher, but if we have say, 1 potential pro bowl DE plus at least 2 good ones, that's good enough.

The most encouraging thing about the (1st and 2nd string) DL guys on the team is that the reports from training camp/practice are saying that they held their own and got pressure roughly half of the time against the likes of Tyron Smith, Lael Collins, Travis Frederick, Zack Martin, and Doug Free. If they can beat these guys half the time... just can't help but feel sorry for the egos and prides and spirits of the other 31 OL tandems in the NFL this season, or at least the 13 teams we see this season plus our playoff opponents... :wow

All your potential CB2's are average to weak... kind of a worry against teams like AZ with lots of elite wideouts.

No, it has been worse once we lost Maxwell. As Maxwell was great at #2 in our system. Simon was supposed to emerge but he couldn't stay healthy. Shead became a multi tool player who filled gaps and did adequately until Lane returned. Now Shead is our #3 which is ideal. Once Lane returned we were good. Unfortunately he went down in the SB in the first quarter and that drastically changed that game because Edelman was allowed to get free. Wouldn't have happened with Lane. He already had an INT before leaving that game.

Assuming Sherman neutralizes Fitz, Lane, Shead, Simon etc are going to struggle with Floyd, Brown, Johnson, etc. But then again, their DL will struggle with RW, so it's all good

In the end, AZ's a bit suspect all across the board, they run a very weird hybrid front 7 scheme, they blitz too much without an elite secondary, etc. Seattle will get the better of them but it will be tough

They really don't have any holes though. They are stacked all over the place and not afraid to stick their necks out. If Johnson pans out as the primary back, then they could easily end up in the SB. Given Palmer not bombing out of course.

It's a given they're fatherless, but what about teammates, coaches, agents? ffs Josh Gordon would be one of the highest paid players in the league if he had any will power

The fatherless narrative to some degree is not as factual as it has been taken to be. I've seen several studies taken that show there is a high level of involvement in this community (particularly in the last few generations) comparatively to other groups. In fact, some show they are the most involved. There is a high percentage of black men who don't even have children (around 30% if I'm not mistaken). Yet 80% give or take of black women have children, and most have multiple. So obviously there are black women who are going around mating with the same men, having multiple children (then turn around and blame these men), where there are men who are completely opting out of the entire culture. So you have an army of whores raising these boys. Women make children, and men make men. On the surface this seems like a contradiction, but there is only so much you can do when you have this shewildabeast controlling the household. So, you have these entitled women/slut/whore, "I don't need no man" crowd running around (as first teacher to children) instilling bad culture in the family with no man permitted in the household by law if they are receiving benefits from the system.

But to your point, at some point they're going to be by themselves, and amongst friends. You can't babysit adults all the time, there's no way around it. And all the league/players union mandated seminars aren't going to amount to anything if somebody wants to go hit the blunt. Nor will a handful of ex-players handing out pamphlets, or the ones that may try to coordinate with financial managers.

And a lot of them come from depressed economic environments where all of their friends are there expecting a handout because their guy is the one that made it. He made it, we all made it. And to some extent this amounts to now being a business owner. Is everyone going to be on Comp, or are you going to put them to work like Lebron James does? Not everyone is suited to be in this position, but yet end up there. And family is no better, in fact it is worse. I really don't think there is a solution to this other than changing the culture in general. And now you have a pro-bowl guy like Dareus out four games because he can't put down the dank.

Additionally, the nature of the game has a deteriorating consequence on mental abilities. So, they are in unfortunately in a unique position comparatively to other sports players in which they'll need a better infrastructure in place. Megatron played quite a long time, but got out relatively early (based on his skill level) because if I'm not mistaken his mother (one of the good ones) is a doctor of some sort and has a significant amount of influence in his decisions I'm sure. He is the exception not the rule.
