Tight end Martellus Bennett will make his New York Giants regular season debut Wednesday night against the Cowboys.
There’s a good chance Jason Witten won’t be cleared to play. But Bennett spent the first four years of his NFL career playing behind the Cowboys Pro Bowl tight end. He has witnessed Witten’s toughness first hand.
Marty B. tried to get that across to reporters in New York in his own, colorful way.
“I wouldn’t be surprised if he (Witten) picked up his spleen, held it in his hand and tried to run routes,” Bennett said of Wednesday’s opener.

Cowboys signed DL Sean Lissemore to a three-year contract extension.
A reserve lineman capable of playing both end and tackle, Lissemore appeared in all 16 games in 2011, but made zero starts. He played only 273 snaps, but was highly productive on a per-play basis, and is expected to see heavier playing time this season. A Cowboys team that lacks depth in a few crucial areas has now locked up a nice piece of it along the defensive line. The Cowboys view Lissemore as a future starter. Sep 13

Cowboys signed S Eric Frampton.
Frampton won the spot by beating out four other safeties to work out for the Cowboys on Tuesday. Although he's never started in the NFL, Frampton appeared in all but two games with the Vikings over the past four years. He'll add depth with Barry Church out for the season.

Jimmy Johnson said he wasn’t interested in creating controversy but he wanted to set the record straight on Wednesday about his role with the Cowboys in the years he coached the team.
“The time I was with the team I had complete and total responsibility over the football operation,” Johnson said in a telephone interview from his home in the Florida Keys. “That meant personnel, the draft, coaches, including the strength coach. Everything.
“It was always in my contract.”

Jimmy Johnson did more than attempt to set the record straight regarding the power structure between himself and owner Jerry Jones. The former Cowboys coach said in interviews Wednesday that he believes a country club atmosphere has developed at Valley Ranch.
Jason Garrett’s response?
“I don’t really have any comment on that,” the Cowboys head coach said. “We do things the way we do things here from a football standpoint. We believe we practice the right way and we meet the right way and we create the right atmosphere of urgency for our players.
“It’s what I learned as a player and a coach in this league and that’s what we’re trying to create here with this football team.”

Sources tell WSCR that defensive coordinator Rod Marinelli will not return to the Bears next season.
Although he's under contract, Marinelli didn't want to stay in Chicago without close friend Lovie Smith. He reportedly turned down a one-year extension from the Bears. Marinelli is expected to reunite with Cowboys DC Monte Kiffin as defensive line coach. New coach Marc Trestman will be forced to press on without the two minds that ran the league's No. 5 defense in 2012. He could sustain some level of continuity on that side of the ball by promoting respected secondary coach Jon Hoke to defensive coordinator.

Cowboys NT Jay Ratliff has been arrested for DWI in Grapevine, Texas.
Ratliff crashed his truck into an 18-wheeler in the "early morning hours" Tuesday. According to ESPN Dallas, neither Ratliff nor the truck driver were hurt. The Cowboys have declined comment. It's most unwelcome news for a player who was already on the hot seat in Dallas. Ratliff's arrest also comes barely a month after Jerry Brown's tragic death in a DWI accident with teammate Josh Brent. The odds that Ratliff has played his final down in Dallas have increased dramatically.

The Jacksonville Jaguars released wide receiver Laurent Robinson on Tuesday after one season.
Robinson surprised with Dallas in 2011 and was fantastic as the No. 3 receiver. He set career highs in catches (54), yards (858) and touchdowns (11), which helped him get a big money deal with Jacksonville. The Cowboys valued Robinson but weren't willing to put the investment in him that the Jags were, because they had their eyes on other big ticket players, such as Brandon Carr, who was signed to a five-year, $50.1 million deal.
But should the Cowboys bring Robinson back now?

Dallas Cowboys (http://www.kffl.com/team/14/nfl/dallas-cowboys) QB Tony Romo (http://www.kffl.com/player/6174/nfl/tony-romo) has passed on several golf tournaments he usually plays in during the offseason. He has been heavily criticized in the past for his golf commitments.

Free takes big pay cut:
http://cowboysblog.dallasnews.com/2013/05/rt-doug-free-agrees-to-drastic-pay-cut-to-remain-with-cowboys.html/?utm_source=feedly
Free was scheduled to make $15 million in base salary over the next two seasons — $7 million in 2013 and $8 million next season. That total has been reduced to a total of $7 million, a source said, meaning the offensive linemen will make $3.5 million in base salary in each of the next two seasons.

If this was the 90's Cowboys Brent would be just one of the guys. Lol at Garrett being "willfully" stripped of his play-calling duties--right. Wasn't JG a decent play-caller? His offenses have had Top-5 rankings, no? Shitty HC, but decent OC. So they strip him of the only thing he's good at it, emasculate him in public, and leave him nothing but clock management and motivational duties.
This will end well.

I wanted someone else to call plays so that JG could focus solely on being the HC. I thought his play calling was questionable sometimes, but then other teams' fans probably say the same thing about their OC's.

You raise a very interesting point. And you're probably right. This is Jerry's Cowboys.
I like to think that the playcalling duties were holding him back from growing as a HC so Jerry wanted to make those things that are newer to him easier by spreading the responsibilies around more evenly among the coaching staff.
But, as you said, this is the Cowboys and that will surely backfire.

Bill Barnwell from Grantland did a piece on the top trade assets in the NFL right now. Had a good piece on Romo, thought I'd throw it in here for those who haven't had a chance to read it.
http://www.grantland.com/story/_/id/9492942/bill-barnwell-ranks-top-assets-nfl
42. Tony Romo, QB, Dallas
Tony Romo is the NFL's walking contradiction. He's almost universally regarded as a quarterback who can't handle the big moments and the pressure-packed situations, and yet Romo led the league with five fourth-quarter comebacks last season. He had a sixth comeback from 14 points down with five minutes left to force overtime in New Orleans, and a seventh comeback against the Ravens in Baltimore fell short when Dan Bailey missed a would-be game-winning field goal. Over the past five seasons, when the game has been within one score in the fourth quarter, the only guys with a higher passer rating are Aaron Rodgers, Peyton Manning, Eli Manning, and Drew Brees. Dude gets after it when the game's on the line, I promise you, but his reputation is awful enough in those situations that even "Stone Cold" Steve Austin (http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/football/stone-cold-wrestler-lays-cowboys-romo-article-1.1361266) doesn't think Tony Romo has what it takes there. (In all fairness, Austin was 5-2 at WrestleMania, so he might be qualified to evaluate Romo's clutch performance.)
Romo's never going to change: He's an incredible improviser capable of making both brilliant plays and absolutely abysmal decisions on the fly.16 (http://www.grantland.com/story/_/id/9492942/bill-barnwell-ranks-top-assets-nfl#footnote16) The team around him will have to get better if the Cowboys are going to make a push toward a Super Bowl. And as the massive contract Romo just leveraged his way into (http://www.grantland.com/blog/the-triangle/post/_/id/56629/nfl-free-agency-report-leverage-is-king) begins to take hold, it will be harder for the Cowboys to acquire the sorts of surrounding talent they need to satisfy their fans' thirst for a title.

Good read on Romo
http://www.grantland.com/blog/the-triangle/post/_/id/74592/do-yourself-a-favor-learn-how-to-stop-talking-about-tony-romo
You may have seen that the Dallas Cowboys lost to the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday. If you were just watching NFL RedZone and checking in sporadically, chances are you noticed that Tony Romo accounted for 88.9 percent of the Cowboys’ yards from scrimmage, but that he also turned the ball over in the fourth quarter. If you’re a self-loathing Cowboys fan who watched the entire game, you may even have gotten into an argument or two after the game about Romo’s merits as a quarterback. What the hell is wrong with you?
It’s safe to say that no NFL quarterback generates more diverse opinions, controversy, or sheer idiocy than Tony Romo (Tim Tebow’s not in the NFL anymore). As the starting quarterback for the Dallas Cowboys, Romo was always bound to be a polarizing figure, even if he wasn’t an undrafted free agent turned three-time Pro Bowler with a beauty queen wife and a penchant for turning the ball over at the Worst. Possible. Time. in the Biggest. Game. Of. The. Year.
But of course, he is all of those things. And this is why it has become legitimately impossible to have a rational conversation about Tony Romo.
Oh, it starts innocently enough. Someone — usually a non-Cowboys fan, but depending on what happened during the most recent Cowboys game, it might actually be a Cowboys fan — says that Romo “sucks.” It’s at this point that a self-loathing Cowboys fan/Romo apologist (this used to be me) feels the need to jump in and point out that by any definition of the word “sucks,” Romo doesn’t.
And that’s where the conversation turns stupid, because no one can be convinced to believe something they don’t already believe about Tony Romo. Trust me, I used to try all the time. All it got me was anger, anxiety, nervous sweats, and sideways looks. That’s why I decided late last season that I would no longer talk about Tony Romo, in real life or on the Internet. If you’d like to do the same, for the sake of your sanity, follow these simple rules.
• Do not talk about Tony Romo, EVER.
• If you find that you absolutely must talk about Tony Romo, only do so by stating facts. For example: “Tony Romo is 13-18 for 186 yards and a touchdown” is good. That’s the kind of thing that can’t be argued with. You play it relatively safe by quoting the box score.
• Never give opinions. “Man, Tony Romo is playing a great game right now” is bad. Adjectives are not your friend.
• If someone else gives an opinion about Tony Romo — for example, “Tony Romo sucks” — DEFINITELY DO NOT RESPOND AT ALL. This is how you end up in the danger zone.
• If for some reason you just couldn’t help yourself and responded with something like “Romo doesn’t suck. By almost any statistical measure, he is probably somewhere between good and really good,” WALK AWAY AS QUICKLY AS POSSIBLE, PREFERABLY BEFORE THE OTHER PERSON RESPONDS TO YOU.
• If for some reason you didn’t walk away before the other person responded with something like “I don’t care what the numbers say. He’s not a winner,” DO NOT RESPOND by quoting his career winning percentage, or by stating that the number is higher than Drew Brees and Eli Manning. This will only lead you further down the rabbit hole.
• It is likely around this time that the person you’re speaking with will try to make a factual assertion that has little to no basis in reality. For example: “Don’t just give me winning percentage. It’s all about clutch plays, and Romo is terrible in the fourth quarter.” Whatever you do, DEFINITELY DO NOT INFORM THIS PERSON that Romo has the highest fourth-quarter passer rating of any quarterback since 2000. If you’ve already done this, it’s too late. There’s no saving you.
• When this person then states, “It’s not just about the fourth quarter, you idiot. He’s never won a big game in his life,” DO NOT SUBTLY REMIND THIS PERSON that Romo led the Cowboys to a win over the undefeated Colts (who eventually won the Super Bowl) in Week 11 of 2006, beat a 10-1 Green Bay Packers team in Week 13 of 2007 (which helped clinch a first-place finish in the NFC), beat a 13-0 Saints team (that eventually won the Super Bowl) in Week 15 of 2009 as part of a 3-0 season-ending finish that helped clinch a playoff spot, or that he knocked off Philadelphia in Week 17 of 2009 to win the division, then took out the Eagles again a week later in the first round of the playoffs. Everyone and their mother knows the only big games Romo has ever played are his three playoff losses and the Week 17 games against the Giants and Redskins the past two seasons, which he also lost. Who cares about games in Week 11, Week 13, and Week 15, anyway? It’s all about the PLAYOFFS, baby, and Tony Romo is 1-3.
• At this point you’re angry, and you’re almost definitely getting some weird looks. You’ve resorted to talking about the same kind of small sample sizes as the person you’re arguing with; you’re just using different samples. The meaning of nuance has long since been forgotten. Soon, you’ll be comparing Romo’s career numbers to his December-and-January-only numbers, looking up the season-by-season DVOA ratings for the Cowboys defense and running game since Romo became the starter and comparing it to other quarterbacks of his stature, playing “which quarterback would you rather” games with your Twitter followers and posting pictures of Romo’s and another QB’s Pro-Football-Reference.com profiles with the names taken out, and all other kinds of craziness. :lol 37 yards rushing, yea the run blocking is good.
Maybe if they didn't give up on running the ball in the second half, there would have been more. But I was talking about Game 1, tbh...and you were wrong. I said nothing about run blocking in this game.

that pass interference call was total BS and ended the game. Sure, Romo shouldn't have thrown that pick but there was plently time to make up for it... but the refs ended that. Fuck.

Want to know the one positive that I can hang on to from this latest loss? The fact that the Broncos had more fans in At&t Stadium than the Cowboys did. The only way drastic measures will be taken is when you hit Jerry where it hurts; the pocket. The last time attendance was down like this was during the third consecutive 5-11 season in 02', Parcells was brought in the next year. It takes a lot for that old senile SOB to do something, hopefully this waste of a season will prompt him to hire a proven, smash mouth leader.
Cowboy fans are finally getting fed up with the same shit again, I'm glad to see other teams with home field advantage in Dallas. I'm am sick of seeing bitch ass Garrett on the sideline after a huge mistake show no emotion. Seeing my guys fuck up after I've invested so much time coaching them pisses me off, it should him too. He just shakes his head and looks like a little bitch while doing it. Accountability is key IMO.

Marinelli and Kiffin have done a lot to improve the defense. Any defense will have a hard time against a high powered offense like Denver, especially with a smart QB like Peyton. Give those two some time, they have already instilled a culture change on the defensive side of the ball. It will only get better with a couple more offseasons, and a coach who won't tolerate any bullshit from anyone on the team.
One change can make a world of difference..

Jerry wants to be known as a smart football guy but he has had enough time
now to prove that is not going to happen. He is a smart business man, smarter than
Cuban who has that rep. Jerry has enough money to hire the best guys to run his team
and step aside, but he plays the Cowboys as his fantasy football team. I would
love to have Jerry in my League.

Jason Garrett is a dumb coach. When you have the ball in your opponent's territory with 1:30 left and your opponent only has 2 timeouts.. YOU KNEEL THE F*CKING BALL 3 TIMES AND RUN THE CLOCK DOWN! But not our coach.. he hands the ball off 3 times with the 3rd play ending up in a penalty.. you ran 10 seconds off the clock... brilliant !
I kept yelling.. "kneel the ball"
I accept the medicority of the Cowboys today but it is infuriating to see another dumb loss with yet another an assist from the dumb head coach..

Amen. This is what I have been preaching to the blind.
Watching the Broncos game this year was proof enough that fans are buying less tickets..the whole stadium was fucking orange. The merchandise and ratings need to drop before that idiot will agree to big changes. Dallas is very close to the level they were at when Jerrah brought in Parcells.

Bullshit..that dude has money coming out of his ass. There won't be enough people who stop to actually matter. I bought a Sean Lee jersey and a Dez...other than that, I haven't bought any merch in forever. And people will pay the money to go to a game....they're not going to stop. But you're missing the point. He doesn't care what color they're wearing..he just cares if there's a butt in the seat...and there always will be...because when it comes to the Cowboys...people either love them, or love to hate them. I'm not missing a point, you're preaching to the choir. My original complaint was the business man trying to be decision maker. This is the root of the Cowboys long term issue. Micro management at it's finest example.
I pointed out the orange crowd only to show how obvious the fan's decline in interest has been over the last couple of years. People have naturally grown, or at least started to grow tired of the same old shit. I've been frustrated over the years, but every season I try and be positive and focus on the improvement from within aspect. After firing Rob Ryan after only one season, then the draft worthless draft, then signing Romo to the six year contract, I have hit the point of no return (minus drastic change). I will still watch every game, but I can truly give a shit less win or lose. None of it matters.
The ticket sales aren't the only measurable aspect that will drive change. You're right, either way a ticket is sold, the money is the green at the end of the day. But at the same time I know he sits in that luxury box and looks out at his crowd, and deep down is bothered by the fact hometown Dallas fans choose not to head out to the best stadium in the league, and support the team in person like they used to.
Merchandise sales are down. Media scrutiny is at a high, probably more so than ever. The locker room and micro management issues are becoming more apparent than ever with people like Will Allen and Mike Jenkins coming out and making comments about the internal side. I wouldn't anticipate ratings to really suffer as you will always have the Cowboy hating faithful who tune in just to watch the Cowboys/Romo fail.
The Cowboys are stuck in three feet of shit, have been for years. Good enough to win a few games, but not bad enough to get great draft position. Of course, top draft position isn't the deciding factor, the Patriots haven't drafted higher than 10th overall in 10 years. Because Kraft counts the money, and Belichick runs the team operations, they have been the model for sustained success while Dallas the model of mediocrity.
Even with great draft position, Jerry will still fuck it up. Look at the Morris Claiborne pick. Sure, scouts agreed he was a safe choice as the top CB in the draft, and a top 10 pick, but the pool of CB's in 2012 was weak IMO. Getting a 4/50 Wonderlic was also a huge question mark especially when you're picking a potential franchise CB.
Of the next three corners selected, none would be considered top ten corners in the league currently. Sixth overall and the guy can't stay on the field, and blows coverage and makes poor decisions when he's on it. Did Jerry not think someone with a 4/50 Wonderlic score would possibly have situational awareness and decision making issues?
Now the blind fans will say Garrett has control in the personnel decisions also, but we all know Jerry has final say on all of it. Jerry is holding on to this bullshit belief the Cowboy's are one pick away from a title. He gets a hard on for some prospect, and he pulls the trigger. Quincy Carter anyone? How about Felix?
Bottom line, I will not spend another cent or even cheer for the Cowboys until things change. Change starts with Jerry.
