Eh, I give Infinity Wars a solid 8. Wasnt quite as good as I hoped (was extremely hyped for it tbf), but everything I wanted to see was there and it gave me a lot to process. Now I have to endure the wait for Ant Man and the Wasp/Captain Marvel before we even get to the second part.

A Quiet Place - Good but not great. It is supposed to be a movie about family, but it just made me think of how children cause nothing but problem. The aliens looked like miniature Cloverfield monsters and the movie felt like Signs mixed with The Last of Us. It's PG-13, and the scariest part wasn't the aliens--it was a nail.

it was a lot like Signs except significantly less boring

the thing is, i know Signs is a slow, boring movie and yet somehow I still look back at it fondly

As time goes on, I think it gets harder and harder to come up with something original. So we'll see more remakes and more movies relying on special effects. And movies that try to push the shock value envelope.

i give infinity wars... idk, a solid 6? it was just kinda long and a lot of the jokes weren’t funny.

Yet people laugh at his stupid shit in theaters

Actually I find the reverse. Some movies I thought were badass back in the day I consider trash compared to today's movies.

And I'm not talking about special effects. I'm talking dialogue, storytelling, editing and consistency throughout the movie.

Netflix movie: Anon

7/10

Intriguing concept of a future where everyone has something like a hard drive connected to their brains with the most important aspect of the movie being that everything a person sees is recorded and that info can be shared from person to person with permission or by the police instantly if a crime is committed.

Basically anytime a crime gets committed it takes the cops seconds to figure out who did it and how.

But hackers are able to screw with the system and block the cops from seeing murders and further screw with their real time visuals, making Clive Owen see things that aren't there.

They coulda shoulda done a better job at explaining how exactly the hacker(s) were able to change the real time visuals. Ultimately forgettable movie but I liked it.

I finally got around to watching It and was fairly disappointed. Maybe all the positive reviews had my expectations too high.
Had heard it wasn't going to be that scary but I didn't even find the kids coming of age angle very interesting.
And it was too long. And not sure if it was on purpose but some of the special effects regarding the monsters looked like they were done in the 80's.

6/10 for me.

The Cure to Wellness

This movie wants to be a lot of things but never quite succeeds at any of them. Great visuals and a great score. The story was very predictable and borderline cheesy. Dane Dehaan gives it his all but the story is just too thin to save it. I have no idea why this movie was as long as it was.

:lmao / 10

Absolute garbage. Damn near Sharknado quality, but without the self awareness.

All of you whiny alt-right nerds who have a shit fit over movies like The Last Jedi and Oceans 8 being too :cry SJW :cry should really take aim at this movie. It's like it was written by PETA interns. The entire premise of the movie requires that the audience see it to be a historical tragedy for cloned dinosaurs to die naturally on an island where their presence has caused the deaths of hundreds of people over the past four films in the franchise. You have a cartoonishly feminist veterinarian who literally scolds soldiers for pointing their guns directly at a dinosaur's head. It's a constant eyerollfest, and I'm a liberal. You guys will jizz yourselves over the persecution complex you stand to gain from this film.

It felt like there was limited marketing for this movie, and given the shitty quality I really felt like they were purposefully mailing it in, but then they make it clear that it's leading to a sequel. They'd be better off starting over and pretending this one never happened.

I did feel like I was watching a rip off of the new Venom movie that hasn't even come out yet tho. The dude even looks like Tom Hardy.

The Wrestler

Mickey Rourke absolutely perfect as an aging pro wrestler with family problems. Which I'd imagine would be the norm in that biz being gone all that time. Why have a family?

The wrestling scenes were well done as was the insight into that biz.

Mission Impossible 8/10 - really good and really fun. The perfect amount of action movie cheesiness as well. Only quibble is that the expository dialogue reached Christopher Nolan levels at times. The fact that you can see it’s Tom Cruise actually doing this shit, and not stunt doubles, makes a huge difference. I do fear that it’s going to start wading way deeper into Fast & Furious level ridiculousness as they try to top the previous films. This one hit right at the perfect level of insane stunts, where you bought in 100%, but it never got eye-roll inducing absurd.

Just baffling; didn't live up to all of the things that i've heard about it plus it was a too light in parts to be an actual horror movie and the acting made parts that were supposed to be serious seem silly.

Agreed. My 14 year old was sitting next to me predicting the next sequence prior to it unfolding, which indicates it was likely a plot twist or two from being great. It didn’t disappoint, though, like so many action movies do these days. It kept me entertained throughout.

War for the Planet of the Apes - 3/10

honestly, i really hated the movie. and i really enjoyed the first 2 movies, big fan of the genre... i still think Serkis kills it. but the movie was fucking awful. incredibly slow, plot wasn't compelling, characters werent interesting. the first 2 movies had distinct tones and areas they wanted to explore. movie 1 was all about caesar's character development, and i thought that was great. movie 2 was about the resulting conflict, and was more action heavy, was still a lot of fun. movie 3 felt like they just wanted to make another one and just felt incredibly redundant with the second one.

i just thought it was boring and unimaginative. i checked out some reviews later and was floored to find that it got a lot of critical acclaim.

The Post - 7/10

This was a good movie tbh. I wasn't a big fan of the pacing, and they probably could have made the movie about 20 minutes shorter and it would have been better for it. Odenkirk was fucking awesome here. I don't really think Hanks/Streep did anything noteworthy as actors in this one... but I guess you needed some star power to get people to want to see a movie about the newspaper industry. Sounds like I'm shitting on the movie, but it was quite good, and A++ to Spielberg for deciding to use the actual Nixon taped recordings instead of just casting somebody to speak. Those scenes were incredibly powerful.

Saw this Saturday. Saw the two Conjuring movies in the theater as the best scare scenes are sound induced on the first one specifically. If I'm watching a horror movie or an action movie, it's going to be at a theater because it makes the experience so much better than watching at home. I know not to expect "good" movies, but I go to horror or action movies for the experience.

That said, worst of The Conjuring movies. 5/10.

Caught a couple of movies on a plane...

Yah I thought it was mediocre but I think having not watched the previous (2?) films played a part in this reaction. And also why other people were seriously emotionally tied to the ending. People did the clapping in my theater. Then reviews online were going in depth about how this scene in the new film signified meaning from a previous one.

Woody Harrelson stole the show. The actual War was so incredibly anti-climatic and the twist at the end rather hilarious.

I fell asleep during both Conjurings and both Annabelles.. not even trying to say they were boring but either way I never watched them all the way through. I wasn't aware that this movie was tied to the franchise, so that was a surprise when they showed those demonologists or whatever from the Conjuring in the beginning. I guess I would have to revisit my score after watching them all in order.. Jump scares and imagery alone, wasn't too impressed.

Haven't see The Nun and won't until it's out on Netflix or some shit but I thought that Valak dude is one scary fucking concept.

They took the scariest part of The Conjuring 2 and had no idea where to go with this so they ran the entity into the ground. Annabelle was shit.

I prefer the super hero movies where the good guy is a solo act. There are a few exceptions, but all this franchise shit is getting ridiculous. I used to like "Arrow" until all the stupid side characters started fighting with him like somehow his girl friend is a bad ass because she put on a mask, and his sister, and then her sister, and of course his sister's dad... and... and...

Actually Felicity Smoak was the only reason I kept watching.

Bohemian Rhapsody - 2/10

Garbage. Took so many liberties with the story that the whole thing felt dishonest. Conflicts and characters were fabricated out of thin air and any basic understanding of the timeline of Queen's song/album releases was disregarded.

Worst of all was Rami Malek doing what felt like an extended SNL impersonation. Couldn't take him seriously at any point. His crazy-eyes-dead-inside act works for Mr. Robot but he's out of his league here. The only saving grace was the extended Live Aid performance at the end, which the cast lip-synched and air-guitared convincingly enough, but it's hardly something to rewatch when you can just Youtube the actual show.

Don't get me wrong. I've seen several. And they were always a go to when my kid was younger. Yestereday when I Googled to see how many there were, they had short summaries of each.
Which are funny in their own right. Here are some of the funnier ones.

1. Ernest Goes to Camp (https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0092974/?ref_=ttls_li_tt) (1987)
Ernest, a lovable loser who works as a summer camp handyman and dreams of becoming a guidance councilor, must find a way to inspire a group of juvenile delinquents as well as stop a shady strip mining company from closing the camp.

4. Ernest Scared Stupid (https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0101821/?ref_=ttls_li_tt) (1991)

Ernest accidentally unleashes an ugly troll that plots to transform children into wooden dolls in the town of Briarville, Missouri.

Ernest Rides Again (https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0106827/?ref_=ttls_li_tt) (1993)

Buffoonish Ernest and his dimwitted pal Abner unearth a huge cannon reputed to contain the crown jewels of England.

7. Slam Dunk Ernest (https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0114469/?ref_=ttls_li_tt) (1995 Video)

Ernest P. Worrell becomes a basketball star after an angel bearing an uncanny resemblance to Kareem Abdul-Jabbar gives him a pair of magic sneakers.

8. Ernest Goes to Africa (https://www.imdb.com/title/tt0119068/?ref_=ttls_li_tt) (1997)

The title says it all. There's a mix up involving stolen diamonds which Ernest has (naturally) made into a yo-yo and given to his would be girlfriend, Rene. But Rene wants a man of action, ...

Ernest goes to heaven

well...maybe

How about,

Ernest Goes to Purgatory

Ernest, a likeable buffoon dies and lands in Purgatory where he is mistaken for a man who was just sentenced to hell.
Within 24 hours, Ernest must scour Purgatory to find the other man's ID which was originally left at a 7-11 but stolen by some teens
that wanted to buy beer.

It's 100% Cohen. Just shows how much the industry is shifting and how much power Netflix yields. The first and last stories are the weakest, tho. The Franco and Liam Neeson ones are good. My fave is the Wagon train one.

I didn’t really like this. Thought the did a poor job revealing the story. They kept talking about all the suspects recanting but didn’t even talk about the bad confessions until the last 20 minutes or so. Also didn’t really propose any alternate suspects.

5/10 for me.

Blindspotting-5/5-Fantastic. Manages to blend comedy and serious social commentary without hurting each other, very well acted and fairly original plot.

Cappiqitock- 4/5-Didn't know anything about the scandal but thought the movie did well to explain it, more interesting than I thought it was going to be. The guy who played Kennedy did a great job.

Ms Sloane-3.5/5-Pretty good, a bit too long but managed to keep my attention, despite the subject matter. Decent ending.

Fyre Fraud-4/5- Focuses more on the creator of Fyre fest than the festival itself but entertaining.

Fyre Fest: Greatest Party that Never Happened-4.5/5- The better of the two, entertaining as hell.

Bad Times At The El Royale-4.25 /5-Great cast, fairly original plot, good setting too. Love movies that are told through multiple points of view.

A fuckton of money is wasted on the pre-production process as a group of overpaid suits called "development executives" all try to impose their "vision" on the material, many times resulting in endless rewrites. They bog down the production process similarly. This wasteful process is exacerbated now that there seems to be 50 production companies behind your average bigger budget film (only two were involved in this film). Whannell likely had near-complete creative control and minimal interference from production executives (just read shooting took only 30 days in one location).
