Uhhhhh, I don't know what to give it. I wanted to like it. I didn't search if anyone else saw it here but the last hour could've been cut out and it would've been ok. I really wanted to like it but I was getting annoyed sitting through the last hour that I just gave up paying attention, really. It was like a let's-get-a-bunch-of-"cool",-and-"hip"-actors-and-we'll-be-good movie. I left the theater very confused. Maybe I was in a weird mood.

Theres's Something About Mary - This movie extremely convoluted for a comedy. I'm not saying that comedies can't have more complex plots while still being funny (e.g., Hot Fuzz), but this one excessively bloated and long. Meet The Parents is way better.

I'm a horror fan, I got the homage bit, but the film didn't work for me as well. I think they had a clever premise but failed to deliver on both the comedy and horror elements, which should have been pushed a lot harder. Crappy cgi didn't help either IMO.
Are you a fan of horror films at all? This was practically an homage to horror films.. guessing it flew over your head or your just not a fan of the genre.
I dont understand why people have the need to use the "Are you a fan of horror films" card when someone doesn't agree or likes a movie of a certain genre.
The fact they used some elements from a couple of horror films doesn't make this movie a hit or even good.
The plot, dialogue and the acting was rather poor on this one.

Whether Dodd converted Freddie or not doesn't matter, because Freddie still would have been crazy. I was aware of the Guinness & the BBC version, that's why I made the comment about Oldman doing an AG impression. Someday I'd like to sit down and watch the original series. The movie was meh, IMO.
I'm a big fan of the book and loved the movie, it was pretty faithful except for them making Cumberbatch's character gay. I did not understand that at all, it muddled the other affair in it imo.

Rock Star 3/10
2001 Marky Mark Wahlberg and Jennifer Aniston.
Complete suck ass casting these two as the leads.
Rest of the role players were good choices.
While riding with the "wives and girlfriends" car as the band members toked snorted and fornicated on the Band Bus, the "wives and girlfriends" tried to give Aniston advice. One fairly hot chick said to "let her man do what he wants, rock stars are gonna stray so you go ahead and play some too." Aniston character Emilys response "I hope when i get to be your age I'm not so cynical." The chick talking to Aniston was 22 1/2. Aniston was 32 at the time and they were trying to play her off as rocker babe chick and age sub 21 at that. gawd did they hire a screener for this dump?
Anywho it was mildly entertaining watching the rock star behind the scenes portrayal. For about 30 minutes.

The Man from Earth (2007). Watched it on Netflix. 9/10. No special effects, shot in one location, but a fantastic storyline.
Seriously.
Has anyone taken the time to watch "The Man from Earth?"
Maybe I'm odd... yes... plenty of people will say that...
But...
I think it was an absolutely great movie. Maybe I should have said 10/10, but I never give a 10.
I read that Jerome Bixby completed the script on his deathbed. As a screenwriter/director myself, I find this very interesting. I'll try to watch it later today if I can find the time, hopefully it's still on Netflix.
Yeah, I've seen it. I think I ranked it about a 7/10. Good movie. Interestingly. there was a TOS Star Trek episode that was eerily similar. Looked it up on IMDB, and the writer of The Man From Earth, Jerome Bixby, also wrote the Star Trek episode I was thinking of.
I'm sure even more of you think I'm odd now. Seriously though, in my opinion, this is one of the best films ever when it comes to the storyline. I ordered this in both BluRay and DVD to share with coworkers and friends who don't have Netflix.

Same. I rented it based on 4 and 5 star ratings. But then my wife asked what it was about and I saw this description:
Hushpuppy, an intrepid six-year-old girl, lives with her father, Wink, in the Bathtub, a southern Delta community at the edge of the world. Wink's tough love prepares her for the unraveling of the universe; for a time when he's no longer there to protect her. When Wink contracts a mysterious illness, nature flies out of whack, temperatures rise, and the ice caps melt, unleashing an army of prehistoric creatures called aurochs. With the waters rising, the aurochs coming, and Wink's health fading, Hushpuppy goes in search of her lost mother.
So I was like WTF.

And the very best moment of this film? The last frame:::the "photoshopped" photograph of Luke & the two bar girls has been retrieved from the trash can and taped back together. This film is essentially an infomercial for Mr Weintraub's extravagant wealth and limitless self-regard. Was told this movie was so scary that I had to watch it. Other than the last short story, the whole movie was meh. The movie does not make sense at all. Mainly who uses VHS tapes these days to record a Skype session?

Argo - 8/10
Better than expected. I heard they took a lot of liberties with the actual story but as a movie with it's own story (wheter real or not), it was well done. And even though I knew the outcome of the final scene, he still managed to build the tension and excitement.
End of Watch - 8/10
Really good. Although I thought it ended too quickly.
Thought that it would have been better with a more established actor than Pena. Possibly Nick Cage or Chris Klein.

For once I agree with you. I like Pena, no doubt, but I couldn't ever feel convinced he was cop material. Just fell short - no pun intended.

Yep. I know what they were trying to do but it was pretty unrealistic to try to force the issue of a Mexican cop. They could have used Cage as the main cop and mentor and then Gyllenhaal as the rookie cop. Maybe even make Cage a little dirty so that Gyllenhaal has to struggle with the required lost innocence of becoming an LA cop. Pena with the whole Mexican family thing and wife...kind of hard to believe. Only real problem I had with this otherwise excellent movie.

I did appreciate the -two buds bonding on and off duty - and the same age/different ethnicities angle -and -honestly - there isn't enough latino positive roles either -
but I digress..
It was just that Pena didn't nail the "tough" part...Nitpicking - I know - but something was just a little unsatisfactory. The scene where he took off his duty belt and his partner "watched" him fight - was just bullshit - would never happen and would get him fired immediately...but it is hollywood and I had to swallow - the suspension of disbelief pill.

one thing that I thought they should have done away with was that he was filming everything and that they were wearing cameras. It really never entered in to the plot and seemed like just an excuse for the different camera angles. Which they could have done anyway and not explained anything.

Agreed on that too.
I guess they wanted the "in your face reality" with the cams but it didn't really add anything imo

I realize they made a remake of the original. Dont watch that one. lol
They're 3 films in total, I think you'll like them. The first two are pretty engaging, the last one is good but as sequels often go it doesnt really measure up to the others.
I like the first two. Peck & Remick are fine in 1. I remember when it first came out they played a commercial with the clown looking up to the nanny's suicide. If they played that once, it was played a thousand times. Billie Whitelaw lights the film as the new nanny who is an agent of the devil.
Holden & Lee Grant are also very serviceable in 2. 2 breaks down a little, but, not much. The youngster playing Damien is a bad actor and they don't know quite what to do with him from time-to-time. And then it hurries at the end like they ran out of money. It ends abruptly. But, the frigid, winter scenes in the train yard are so well done.
I wouldn't hit a dog in the ass with 3.

I've been watching "Open Range" on the cable quite a bit. I DVR'ed it and have been perusing it in bits & pieces quite a bit. It grows on ya. Usually I can take Costner for about 5 minutes, but, here, here he gets off the snide and is [different]. Duvall is standard fare. The bad guys are fleshed out nicely with James Russo even taking to playing the fiddle in a scene that was a nice surprise. It gets convoluted AFTER the big gunfight, but, it's still invigorating.

I also DVR'ed "Meet Joe Black." I have it on the shelf, but, it's nice having it otherwise. I love this film. Both Pitt & Claire Forlani are at prime here. The movie takes it's time from the first second to the final frame and I appreciate that. Marcia Gay Haden (as the eldest daughter) has a plum role and she rolls with it, providing the motion picture with integrity in an otherwise ridiculous premise.
The ending is the treat. On a fine theater sound system it's magnificent as the fireworks display, the M'80s igniting is rendered in spectacular fashion.

Lincoln was good. Daniel Day Lewis was amazing as Lincoln. It may be boring though if you're not an American History enthusiast. DVD comes out March 26.
Silver Linings Playbook was a great flick. Bradley Cooper really impressed me in this movie. Never heard much about it until I saw it and I really liked it.

Billy Bathgate - 1991
Dustin Hoffman as infamous Jewish gangster Dutch Schultz. Unfortunately, the movie is less about Schultz, and more about the fictional character of Billy Bathgate. Hoffman delivers the goods, but the movie never takes off.
Strong cast: Nicole Kidman, Bruce Willis, Steve Buscemi, Stanley Tucci
5/10

They've been showing "Heat" quite a bit on the cable. That movie is fine for watching, picking it up anywhere along the way and enjoying the bits & pieces of it. Pacino is shrill though. DeNiro tries to settle him, but, is not effective. It goes on too long after the bank robbery and extensive shootout in the LA. The shootout is the high point and is done fine. The ex-con/short order cook, in a spur of the moment decision ends up as the get-a-way driver and his death is chronicled in real time and later in the eyes of his long suffering wife as she views the televised news account. Heartrending in both instances. Tom Sizemore, in maniacal flight is lethal and Pacino puts him down like a rabid dog.

Nominated for 10 Oscars? Won 2? WTF, this is a downright awful movie!
Did nothing for me. Did not evoke time or place, did not entertain, poorly rendered characters, lousy acting. Rubbish.

what I interpreted the Pena role to be is someone that is in fact not "tough", but someone that has to be tough in what ever way he can to survive those streets as a cop. Meaning he's as tough as HE can be and not afraid to get dirty because that's what the job has forced him to do , but he's really not tough per se and he knows that himself. It kinda makes it endearing that he's willing to put himself out there everyday, IMHO
not sure if that came out right :lol

I can understand it...but I see it as the opposite...he was trying to show that he could get "gangsta" if the situation called for it - and he could get down and have "street cred" by fighting on the gangsta's terms or "code" ...but that is bullshit because thugs have no code - they are the most cowardly people you'll ever meet....
what would have happened in real life- if a cop was stupid enough to fall for it - is that once he took off his duty belt - the thugs friends would have jumped out of an unsearched closet and smoked both cops and laughed their asses about it and bragged to other thugs who would have all laughed their asses off.
What a pro - would do was follow procedure and arrest the idiot - and go home safely to their families.

Annette Bening? Agreed, sole redeeming aspect of the movie. If you liked her in Bugsy, you might want to see her in The Grifters, in which she lets it all hang out.

For two days now I have the weird urge to watch the remake of "Conan the Barbarien". I think I have to watch it tonight. I know it will suck big time, but I can't help it.
What the fuck is wrong with me?
Life of Pi. Thought it was good. I'll give it a 7/10, although I'm not sure what that means because I don't really know what I consider a 1 or a 10.
