the mummy 1999 - 8/10 ... i think 8 is high, but it's one of my favorite films, so thats my subjective rating. I also watched the Tom Cruise one not long ago and damn, this really is a masterpiece compared to that one. Fraser was also perfect fo the role, just as everyone else really. People that like adventure movies and games like Uncharted would like it it think. If i was rating it objectively id say its more like a 6.

Nah, a 6 would be a terrible rating.
This was one of those films that just hit the right cues on all the right spots with little money and mediocre actors. I mean, iirc the story on the first mummy was pretty good. 8 seems about right on merits.
Justice League's Snyder's Cut. 8/10
Actually enjoyed this one over two nights. The tone of the movie was perfect and all the goofy, lame jokes were cut out.

Monster Hunter ?/10
I had to stop this masterpiece halfway through, but I might force myself to finish it. Other than decent VFX, it's average to bad. The movie opens with Ron Perlman looking like Will Ferrel from Blades of Glory, but blonde and with an intense tan. There you go. Milla with a big-ass sword got me to watch. Beware.

Bridesmaids
Just was running on regular TV and I ended up watching the last half and then the first half (they ran it back to back). Until I watched it again, I really only remember the food poisoning scene which is as funny and wheels off as The Office, Fire Safety, intro.
But I forgot how funny the whole movie actually was. As far as funny chicks go, this has to be the most solid ensemble cast there's ever been.
Biggest issue with that movie is that its at least half an hour too long, they left a bunch of stuff in that shouldn't have made it.

Yeah...for sure. You could probably say the same thing about any comedy. My guess is that a writer has a few scenes/situations in his head and they build a movie/plot around it. Even though it's really just a few comedy skits. But it's probably impossible to release an hour long move.

Its a big problem with Apatow movies though, he was a producer on Bridesmaids. He had a movie called Funny People, actually a pretty good movie but God that movie lasted a good hour longer than it needed too.

I mean...it's a hard thing to do. You want funny lol moments and those are usually very situationally based. Or character based (like most Sandler movies). So they end up creating a plot just to deliver a few funny moments.
Now with streaming, it'd be great to see hour long comedy movies.

Meh, I don't agree. I think it's fine, not great but decent. If you know the main character's powers before watching the movie, its kinda anti-climatic but the main cast is solid and do good work with script issues. Its certainly better than Dark Phoenix and Apocalypse imo

Sure but its not like solid 1 hour and 40 minutes comedy's haven't been done. I just don't care for the ones that drag out like they keep a bunch of scenes that aren't really that funny or essential to the plot in. Bridesmaids and Funny People are case and point. They could be a full star better imo by actually having decent editing. Ironically, they'd probably work better as half-an hour mini series.

The DJ carried the movie imo, but I did enjoy them trying to figure out the signals.
The DJ talked way fast but he was still very good.
Once it got to the space craft shit... Thats usually when Im gone.
If they would just leave these movies with the peripheral evidence and not introduce the aliens, and or their ships dont need to be present or shown imo.
I did enjoy it though. The old TV at the beginning and end was cool and the 50s technology with the tape recorders and such was very good. The switchboard stuff was excellent.

jj abrams finally has a rival in using lens flares. The only good thing in the movie was the tiger kill. They also shoud have cut all the serious parts from the movie, as the movie feels fun one minute and then serious the next. There are films that make that work, but a shitty director like Snyder cant do it. Story and acting were also bad, especially from the pilot. It was also nice that they tried to make us sympathize with the zombies. Fuck, just make the bad guys bad. Not every bad guy should I feel sorry for. Oh and Zack, just finish a movie for once. No need to make it look like there will be a sequel.
edit - I just heard that the pilot was inserted in post production and all of her scenes were on green screen, so i can see why her performance is off.

Heads up! I just found on the Paramount Channel/Cable that they're showing all the Godfather movies this weekend, even this new Godfather Coda thing from last year. It's on at 2:30AM early Sunday morning. It'll have a shit load of commercials, it's in a 3 and a 1/2 hour time slot, but if you have a DVR so what.

I saw the devil - 8/10
great acting, great story, good music... perhaps the ending is kinda rushed, but I still enjoyed this much more than any Hollywood movie that came this year. I'll be watchin much more of these Asian movies, as I dont know when was the last time I watched one of their movies that was bad or even just OK. Most stuff i saw was pretty damn good if not great.
The Outpost - 6/10
pretty good war movie. reminded me a little of 13 hours, just that here most action took place during the day. Probably the best thing i saw with Scott Eastwood.

The Thin Red Line - 6/10
very nice shot, good acting, especially by Nolte, but its just kinda too slow and with a bunch of themes of life, death, love, war, afterlife,... idk, most of the time i really like war films, but this was more of a drama than a war film, even tho, the battle scenes were really looking good. Gotta say, a movie that knew how to do all the wide shots at the right time.
Memories of Murder - 7/10
a korean film, kinda based on real events. pretty good story and great acting. it also has some funny parts, that actually mix in nicely, even tho it is a serious film about rape and murder.
Soldier - 6/10
this is closer to a 5, but I will give Paul WS Anderson that, he at least was using a lot of practical effects in his early films (MK, Event Horizon) and it looked good. The story is pretty basic. I also think Kurt Russell has very little lines for a role where he's a star in, but i get it, as he's pretty much a human robot. Anyway, i'd say its a classic 90's sci fi movie.
I also watched the Deer Hunter and idk if id give it a 7 or a 8. I can even see some people give it a 9, but I guess it just dragged a bit too much for me.

its not a movie, but i just finished the series Pacific. After what they did with Band of Brothers, I expected this to be great and it kinda was. The war scenes look great for a series and i am sure they had lots of money for it, but it was well spent. Music, sound, acting and stories were also pretty good. My only problem is that I didnt really give a shit about any of these characters. Like, In BoB I liked pretty much everyone, but here, i was like, if he dies, he dies. Sucks for me that the series is all about characters, so I cant really give it more than a 7/10. Perhaps an 8.

-The Return of the Living Dead- (1985)
On HBO Max.
Hadn't seen it in quite a few years and it holds up just fine. Has that blend of horror, with a touch of comedy and good actors in there, Clu Gulager and James Karen. Special effects are outstanding as well as the make-up. It's a 90 minute blast of sight and sound that endures, with the attendant gut punch at the last.

I’m like 30 minutes into A Quiet Place 2, but did I miss something? Deaf girl grabs a guitar amp to use as a speaker to kill the aliens, cuts the power cord, plugs in the microphone…..and that’s it. What exactly is the power source for the amp? It’s borderline unwatchable unless this gets explained to me.

A Quiet Place II - 3/10
I really enjoyed the first film, and I have no problem suspending reality or overlooking plot holes to an extent, but this one pushed my limits. The guitar amp not being plugged into anything, the oxygen tanks that make a loud hiss (unless the plot needs them to be perfectly silent while the main characters are exposed), opening rusty metal doors that makes all kinds of loud creaking noises (unless the plot needs them to open perfectly silently when the main characters are exposed), the aliens attacking and killing people with lightning quick speed unless it’s a main character and then they choose to take their sweet time, and another Signs ripoff of water being the aliens’ main weakness yet they somehow dominated a planet that’s 70% water :lol
The kids are awesome in the movie, it’s very entertaining overall, and Cillian Murphy is great as always, but once I saw the massive plot hole right at the start, all I could focus on was all the other massive plot holes and it completely lost me.

Not to mention the fact that the aliens get here via a meteor. Let’s just ignore how the blind aliens hitched a ride on meteors, let’s just skip to how multiple meteors crashing into Earth would be COMPLETELY DEVASTATING TO ALL HUMAN LIFE ON EARTH.
Jim Halpert and Mary Poppins wouldn’t have to worry about saving their family from aliens because THEY’D ALL BE DEAD FROM THE METEOR THAT HIT THEIR TOWN.

I think it bordered on too slow but pulled it off. I think the basic acting by the daughter and especially son just was not good. And when the 2nd most important character is subpar that will dull a slow pace even more. The pace made the story believable. Because the entire event occurs within a small period of time yet carries alot of off screen back story - war, demographic migration, his family dynamic. Otherwise how do you make it believable that this old bitter Polak (:lol) would make such a sacrifice for someone he met relatively recently.

Also, the soundtrack was great in how it was integrated into the scenes. Particularly the car chase. Also keeping it to 1.5 hours meant that there weren't many slow moments.

All i heard about this movie is how its great, that its probably the best DCEU movie. People were giving it 8's and 9's and I have no idea if i watched the same movie. Is it more funny than the first one? Yea, sure. Is it better? Not really. Its pretty much the same shit with a different team of people. I actually thought it would be much better just cause of James Gunn, who's MCU films I think were very good, especially Guardians 1, which is in my top 3 MCU films, but this here was not even close to that. I also have no fucking idea when Harley Quinn became a super John Wick on steroids. I expect to see her fly in the next one. I did like the rat girl, while Idris Elba was pretty much Will Smith from the first one. Oh, and Weasel was great. Sucks that he's in the movie for 2 minutes... Dragon Ball Super Broly - 6/10
i grew up with the series and its still my favorite (not best) anime/manga of all time, so I decided to watch this for the second time and its pretty good. I know people are saying how this is the best DB movie, but i still think Battle of Gods takes that spot. Gotta say, the animations and art style was amazing, other than some CGI scenes, which just look off. The story is meh, a little beter than the original Broly movie, but nothing special. I know most peole give zero fucks about the story in a DB movie, but I guess i am one of the rare ones. If you're in just for the fights its gonna be great.
Kingdom: Ashin of the North - 6/10
This is a special for the korean series Kingdom, which is a zombie series thats pretty damn good, unlike the Walking dead. So yea, I do reccomend this if u like zombie stuff. There's only 12 episodes + this movie lenght episode. The special is good and I like how they portrayed the female protagonist (unlike recent american stuff). It also has a nice twist at the end. The one big problem I had was the CGI on animals. They just dont belong there and I think they didn't even have to put them in this. The antagonists were also pretty lame, but I did still enjoy it.

its just this 4th phase that I dont really like. After Infinity war it was all kinda meh for me (and yea, I know earlier phases also had subpar films). I also fucked up, saying i am done with superhero films, as I am kinda looking forward to the Sam Raimi's Dr. Strange.

The Suicide Squad - 5/10
Anyway, i think i am done with superhero films, cause this is just hard to watch.
:lol Yea they buff her like Black Widow
Will Smith is diarrhea dumpster juice compared to Elba. His schtick is so fucking old and repetitive, TOSB actor
I think the 8s and 9s stem from people completely re-working their internal scoring system for the shitfest that is the DCEU. An 8 or 9 for a DC film is like a 4-6 for a MCU movie.

The Mummy Tomb of the Dragon Emperor -3/10
The first mummy with Fraser is one of my favorite films, even tho I dont think its that great of a film, but this was just bad. I knew that most people didnt like the movie and from the rating on the imdb i could see it's average at best. Also, the director has made mostly shitty films, so I really shouldnt have expected a good film. But still, i was kinda disappointed, cause i dont think it was average, but just on the line of being shit or just bad. I guess it was nice of them to change the setting from Egypt to China and try something new, but I just didnt have the feeling I was watching a mummy movie. It would also be better if the charecters were fun, like in the previous two, but here they are just different. Fraser looks depressed all the time and at the time he had personal stuff going on, so i get it. Replacing Rachel Weisz with Maria Bello was also pretty stupid, cause Bello just didnt act like Weisz and I never had a feeling it was the same character. It would have been much better if the just killed off the Evy character and had Bello portray Rick's new partner or something. Anyway, there was no chemistry, so it looked off. Then we have their son Alex, who they tried making the new star of the franchise, but he never gave me a feeling a movie with just him would be anything good. Hmmm, now thinking of it. There was another 2008 adventure movie that tried doing the same and it also didnt work. Well, here we at least dont have a monkey tarzan scene, so thats a plus i guess... Jet Lee was probably available for like 5 days of the shooting, as he's in the film for the first 5 minutes and the last 5 minutes, while being cgi for the rest of it. Then there's the 2 chinese women, who are there just to explain the plot. So on the end of the day, only Jonathan felt like the same character from the previous movies. There's also this scene when Rick and Alex are talking about their guns in the Himalayas and Rick sounded like he was in another movie. I did read Fraser had a vocal cord surgery, so perhaps it was cause of that... Anyway the movie sucks. If you want a fun adventure taking place in snowy mountains, searching for immortality i recommend playing uncharted 2. It looks like these two things were dealing with a similar script, but Uncharted did great, while the mummy did very bad. I'd still rather have seen the 4th one with Fraser than the one with Tom Cruise tho, as that one was perhaps an even bigger shit than this. This was also the last big film Brendan Fraser did before being pretty much blacklisted from Pedowood, so its nice to see him being in the new Aronovsky and Scorsese films. Wish him all the best after what his succubus of a wife did to him.

Real look into tragedies that reveal a wide range of human emotion, grieving, responsibilities, and irreparable damage but we somehow move on. The main character's wife then ex wife was outstanding. She had a smaller role but she was awesome. A lot of battered people in that film and it brought it out extraordinarily well. That sit down dinner with "reformed mom", incredibly good.

Got badgered into another mistake. -Midsommar- (2019)
It's -The Wicker Man- on stern steroids. Takes it's sweet ass time getting there, but arrives eventually and with a vengeance.
Finally I knew what was coming and still would not change that channel. The only two things I've managed to strictly avoid (at least to this juncture) is that one Hannibal movie with Liotta and that part where old Han Magic (red) Marker's his head for dinner. Got to the very last second and changed the channel (several times///years apart). And the other one is where Pearl gets his head chopped off. Turned that off just as the fellow behind the seated Pearl draws his machete from his robes. I don't even know if it's anywhere on the Internet now and will try with all me might not to inquire thus.

-Father and Daughters- (2015) with Crowe and the Seyfried girl. Anytime you can get Crowe in front of a camera is a good day. And once and again the girl is naked in this.
It's told in jigsaw fashion, back and forth, not in order, but it's a stout tale that pushes a lot of buttons and she's naked several times.

I'd probably rate it a 7.5/10 as an entertainment film, nothing too deep that you need to rush out and see it. However, Margot Robie as Harley Quinn is always a fun watch. John Cena and Idris Alba's back and forth is decent. I'd say it's better than the one released in 2015. While DC is light years behind Marvel, it is on HBO Max and you can catch it from the sanctity of home.

There was some really good stuff thrown in involving his brother and his right hand man. (who Adopted the kid)
At the big dinner when he was yelling back and forth with his wife on whether the beaten down brother was hungry and needed a plate or not. The scene with the ex wife wanting to have lunch finally telling him how much guilt she laid on him. That was especially good.

Yep, peeg, we didn't need to hear it in "real time"---this way was much better. She was at her wit's end with him earlier the night it happened.
And the "I love you." from her had me welling up. He didn't accept it, peeg, but I God's he needed to hear it, we needed it then. We had to have it, and that production didn't grudge it, just gave it to us, one and all. And may have kept him from grabbing another pistol.

Yep, the kidnapping scene in "Fire" is just so well executed. Just took their time and did it right and it sets up the rest of film without straining.
---
The problem with Denzel taking "the fall" in "Flight" is it left Cheadle and Greenwood up to their necks in pure shit. They're both finished and will lose their plum jobs and do prison. And Denzel rolled over for the/a dead girl. Just keep your mouth shut and then dedicate your life to sobriety and to her memory. Don't take those two men into the shitter with you like that. (And Cheadle never trusted him to begin with).
It's what bothers me about "American Gangster." He's basically a rat with a nice coat of lipstick, but he's still a rat there.

Tomorrow war - fun 6/10 ; objectively 3/10
I heard pretty much only bad stuff about this film. I know people dont like it just cause of Chris Pratt and then there's people that dont like the story. After watching it, I can say Chris Pratt does not make this movie stupid, but the writing does. This is like a big mix of Starship Troopers, Battle LA, Edge of Tomorror, World war Z, etc. I can easily see this movie being made by Roland Emmerich in the 90's or early 00's. Unfortunately its in the range of Battle LA and not Starship troopers. The actors are all fine, even tho nothing special. Chris Pratt is pretty much a Brad Pitt character from WWZ. The side characters are also not interesting at all. We have a funny guy, thats not funny at all, then there's the serious guy that has nothing to live for and a father that was not there for his family in the past. These kind of characters can work, but here they just dont get enough time on screen. I think only Chris Prattt's future daughter did a good job, while everyone else was just there. Visual effects are fine, even tho for a 200M movie, it could look better. Music is forgettable and only some sound effect of the monsters are good. Speaking of the monsters, they look good, but cause of the CGI, i never have a feeling that they are there and it all looks very fake. Anyway, all of this stuff is actually fine, but whoever wrote this sucks. The idea of this kind of a film is actually interesting and it could work, but here it's just bad. Someone needs to say to the writers that if you fell from the sky into the wather, you're a dead man and here they fall into a fucking pool and somehow survive, which makes no sense. Then there's the retarded infinite ammo guns that dont need reloading. Then there's decisions that make no sense, like why the fuck would you let your lead scientist go on a very risky mission getting the main monster. Then there's the thing about the daugter and Chris Pratt, where she says he left his family in the future timeline, which makes no sense, as he is being portrayed as a great dad the whole time.... Anyway, there's a lot of stupid stuff. The movie is also pretty long and it could end like 20 min earlier, but they had to put the second ending in I guess.... All in all, this movie is stupid, but somehow it was fun, at least for me.

Alien and Aliens - 9/10
I think the first one is a little better, but not by a lot. They are also somehow completely different films, as the first one is pretty much a horror and the second one is an action film. They both have great characters, even tho it kinda sucks they get rid of like half of them in Aliens in one scene. The music/score is also very good, especially in the first one, as you get that creepy feeling. The set designs, ships, aliens, music/score and effects all look amazing. Camera work is a little off in some parts, but they did have to hide the alien moving, especially in the first part. The sound is also a little off when the characters are speaking to eachother in the first one, but for a 70's movie thats not that bad. Anyway, compared to the newer movies in the franchise, these 2 are on a whole nother level.

-Seeking a Friend for the End of the World- (2012) with Steve Carell and the Kinightley girl from -Atonement- which is a flawless motion picture event.
Nothing outstanding here but it does work in a 100 minutes. It does not drag. An asteroid will hit earth within 21 days. It will be an ELE/Extinction Level Event.
A lot of humor as the days wind down and the two principals find one another and fall in love.
The asteroid arrives a few days early.
Some fine (cameo's) primarily by William Petersen/at the first & Martin Sheen/at the last.

Reminiscence- besides the plot, the direction, the editing, the score and the cinematography, it was a great movie.

Are you planning to watch Alien 3? It is a combination of the previous 2 films.

watched it not long ago and its clear that Fincher had problems with it. I think its pretty average. 4 is even worse and the newer ones are also pretty meh. Should have stopped at 2.

Very partial to (s) in particular the extended cut issue.
Cameron's careful consideration of the Marines first to last is a strong draw and anchor. Many are challenged, fail and then are painstakinly resurrected by Cameron, in particular Lt. Gorman who goes back for Vasquez so that she is not alone and so that 2-two-2 Marines are in that shaft, with a death grip on the grenade.
"Corporal Ferro" (pilot) of the rescue aircraft, who, when confronted with an alien immediately after liftoff does not cower, nor scream. No. Uh, uh. Goes immediately for her sidearm. Sometimes, most times, every time Dale ejects out of the Lazy Boy and stands for this sequence.
And of course the renewal of Paxton's "Private Hudson" who shamefully laments his "short" status after the initial ass kicking. He grabs the inevitable "jacks and timbers and starts back down"...and so is there and..."Scorned and covered with scars still strove with his last ounce of courage."
James Cameron
Is it a flawless motion picture event? No. The insistence of placing this "Newt" persistently prevents that special designation.

Quite Place 2 - It was good enough. Krasinski does a nice job of building tension. Especially when he switched back and forth between the three different stories during the climaxes of each of them.
Also glad he kept it at an hour and a half.
7/10.

-Edge of Tomorrow- (2014) showed up on the IFC cable channel this weekend. I figured what the hey as it had a 90% rating! All their shit is uncut, but has commercials. So, I put it on the DVR and FF thru the commercials.
Too busy, like a Chinese Fire Drill with mostly white people. Thus precluding any emotion throughout.
Don't waste your time. Unfortunately I did.

Shang Chi was entertaining. There weren't that many jump cuts during the action, so the choreography was much better than some other Marvel movies. Also, a character from the past makes a surprise (and hilarious) reappearance.

I saw Respect last week. I love a good biopic, I expected a lot but there just wasn’t much to it. The acting was excellent, the costumes were divine and the whole film had a lovely aesthetic. Jennifer Hudson and Marlon Wayans are both amazingly beautiful to look at. But there just wasn’t much substance. I was a little kid in the 70’s, my familiarity with Aretha Franklin came from seeing her on the variety shows like Carol Burnett or Sonny and Cher and this movie didn’t really tell me much else about her. The only reveal for me was that she came from a privileged background. Even a very casual follower knows that Aretha was the ultimate diva—something that makes her more fascinating imho—but they really didn’t dwell too far into her later career, the whole film just felt like an early highlight reel. Here was a musical biopic that had a great singer NOT lip syncing and it never gave us a great musical number. I expected a rendition of Respect to honor the ages but got nothing. Watch it at home 6.5/10

Why? Sexual abuse/domestic violence doesn’t skip past the financially comfortable. There was no implication that she did not work hard for her success. As a black woman in that era I have no doubt she struggled harder for her success. The only reason her background was surprising to me was because she could have had a nice comfortable life singing in her father’s church forever but chose to give it up to do her own thing.
Edit: These latest musical biopics all had that in common. Elton John, Freddie Mercury, Aretha weren’t from poverty so their personal successes weren’t so much commercial as breaking away from parents who did not believe in them. The old music biopic people like Loretta Lynn and Elvis come from nothing but always had someone who believed in them and their dream.

I haven't seen Respect yet but Aretha went through A LOT as a kid. The sensual abuse and didn't she have a child at 13?

sucks what happened to him. The only problem i really have is that it goes very slow till like the mid of his career and then rushes everything since like 95 when by the looks of it, it got interesting cause he was becoming ''problematic'' to work with. Id love to have seen more of that, but yea, still pretty good.

Malignant - 5/10
I liked most of the James Wan's horror film and his films in general, but this one is pretty average if not even below average. I didnt give this a 4 just cause of the camera work, which is amazing, everything else, not so much. This feels like they didnt know what they wanted to make, cause the first 1/3 is a horror, then it switches to mystery/drama and the last 15 minutes is like you are watching a Mortal Kombat action movie with a bunch of fatalities. I kinda wished it stayed more of a grounded horror all the way through, but i guess they wanted to spice it up. Anyway, nothing really stands out, other than camera work and it kinda gets obvious whats going on half way into the movie.... oh yea, there's also nothing really that scary in the movie, except if you're afraid of jump scares, which there are like 3 of them.

Watched a fine one last night, from 2006 -The Last Time-
Has Brendan Fraser & Michael Keaton playing the leads. The denouement is jaw dropping. Did not see it coming. Everything is addressed and settled, to the last issue. The sight of Fraser at the start---and---him after the full disclosure is unbelievable. He-done-good.
A flawless motion picture event.
