last movie i watched and rated was monster's ball, i watched it in February 09 for the first time and watched it several times more afterwards. there're several good movies i've watched in the past 3 years something, but most of them (if not all) are nothing more than eyeopeners imho, none of them came with the same level of thoughts & connotation that monster's ball delivered imho
i do appreciate some characters and actors in some of those movies though, like Downey as the Ironman and my Goddess as Charlotte in Lost in translation. it's great entertainment to watch such kind of thing but when you get done watching it, you feel you haven't watched nothing. monster's ball, whereas, is a movie that you should watch with your soul rather than your eyes imho

What a stupid premise.
Bad guy brutally murders wife to be, good guy hunts him down, beats him up then gives him money, sets him loose. Bad guy goes on a killing spree while good guy listens. Bad guy figures out he has a tracker, good guy becomes desperate. Bad guy becomes the hunter, beats the dad of the murdered daughter almost to death then kills the second daughter. Bad guy gives up, gets caught by good guy the good guy kills him. Good guy then breaks down like a mega pussy. The end.

Rewatched Mars Attacks on a lark. Now I notice how some actors (Annette Benning, Nicholson as president) played the up the camp better than others (senile Rod Steiger, Nicholson as casino owner). Uneven committee script. Sarah Jessica Parker at 30 had the hands of an octogenarian. Lisa Marie as the disguised Martian still cracks me up. 6.5 of 10 -- best movie based on trading cards I can think of.

We've thousands of F16s and hundreds of F15s; put some of those up that can do the same thing. And once again, congrats on making the military look like it's manned by a bunch of 10 year olds.
- lol Lois Lane. I wanted the bitch to die within 5 mins of meeting her.
On a side note, I can't wait for school to start up. There were about 30 kids in the theater and the little crotch droppling behind me kept talking to his faggot friends and kicking my seat. I see why James Holmes did what he did.

I didn't mind the machine fight in the Native American ocean. They had the C17 thing going on to not make it seem as bad. But that stupid battle with Zod at the end was painfully long. I mean, how many hundreds or thousands of people died with all their explosions and running into buildings? And at the very end when Zod turns on his eyes, that stupid fucking group of faggots just stand there in the corner, as if their fucking legs can't work to walk away from it.
And another thing, half of metropolis got fucking destroyed with casualties probably in the hundreds of thousands. Yet when superfag lands, what does he do? He makes out with Lois on the ashes of the dead. :lol

3 oldies I caught on the cable:::
The original "Cape Fear" from '62. Mitchum plays the psycho and he's superb. Peck plays the good guy and he is almost equal to Mitchum, but, can't get there, and it's okay. It's not his movie. It's Mitchum's.
The original "Stepford Wives" from '75. Still plays fine. And now it's horrifying. As a youngster it's fun. As an adult it's tragic. Katharine Ross is stunningly gorgeous. Lord.
"The Defiant Ones" with Poitier and Tony Curtis. I think it's '58. This has not aged at all. It's so fucking good. Almost a miracle to behold it.
& one current offering:::"Stand Up Guys" I thought it was good. Not excellent, but, serviceable. The humor is blunted & appropriate, so it works. Walken & Pacino stay down & don't kill it. The ending - they're out of chewing gum - is heroic & correct.
The Campaign: 6.5/10
I knew what i getting into when into when I redboxed it. Not really a great movie, but they nailed the over the top politics to the T. Things they said and did would never be done on that level, but the mentality behind them was spot on.
Loved the WF press conference after he got caught leaving that message on the answering machine, trying to spin as to why a family still has an answering machine in 2012, and how we need to help less fortunate people get with the modern times. Exaggerated, but so true :lol

Lone Star: 9.5/10 (rewatch)
Really almost a perfect movie. Sayles really nailed several aspects of living on the Texas/Mexico border with a bunch of seemingly disparate subplots that come together to tie up the main plot in a neat package. Seemless same-scene flashbacks were notable. I think the only thing that sets it back a little is Frances McDornamd's appearance. She plays the role right, but the character just seems too contrived compared to all the regular but complex people portrayed in the film.
Iron Man 3: 6/10
I guess all the solo Marvel universe movies will have the problems this one did. Where is S.H.I.E.L.D.? Why doesn't Tony call one of his superbuds for help? I still don't know why any of the bad guys did what they did other than wanting to grow their or someone else's limbs back. I always superficially enjoy superhero movies though, so no big deal to me. Seemed like they ended the series decently enough if they want to, but Downey would really be missed in a second Avengers movie.

I enjoyed this one -- didn't love, but enjoyed -- but I agree with you about the solo Marvel movies. Think I've probably mentioned it here before, but I really wish they had been used exclusively to establish the Avengers as characters with that being the only film to get sequels from here on out. As much as I love a quippy Robert Downey, Jr., I couldn't ignore how much I missed having the others to bounce off of when it was back to just him. I will give credit to Iron Man 3 for acknowledging that the events of The Avengers had taken place, though.

I keep going back and forth between a 7.5 and an 8. It’s entertaining and even if you think it’s not “scientifically” sound like the poster Te mentioned; at least it was a plausible explanation sort of the “Survival of the fittest” kind of thing. The fast undead/zombie was interesting from what I usually see but then again I am going by the last few seasons that I have been watching The Walking Dead , lol
Oh, and I have to add even if Brad Pitt is older he still looks yummy! :-D

Hombre -1967
John Russell, disdained by his "respectable" fellow stagecoach passengers because he was raised by Indians, becomes their only hope for survival when they are set upon by outlaws.
Based on an Elmore Leonard novel. Crackling, sharp script. A top notch movie that deserves to be ranked right up there with the other great 60's westerns IMO.

Some of the deaths were really disturbing and well thought out. Most were too stupid and cartoonish. A sequel is in the works with some great directors.

Great account of the true story of Australia's most brutal serial killer. Slow, methodical pace makes the movie that much more nerve wrecking.

Iron Man 3 - Crap. I guess I wasn't expecting much following Iron Man 2, but I thought it was worse than 2. Looks nice though.
Star Trek: Into Darkness - I wanted to like this movie so much, but I just couldn't do it. Spoilers ahead...... Several things about this movie bugged me. The intro scene when the Enterprise rose out of the ocean was dumb. I know they couldn't allow the natives to see it, but cmon. It's like Abrams saw Avengers do it, and thought he had to fit that into his movie. Also, when Kirk gets booted as Captain only to be re-instated as Captain 5 minutes later. Why even add that plot element? It simply foreshadowed my biggest gripe....the fucking ending. I understand wanting to do an homage to Wrath of Khan, but it was too similar. Only to keep Kirk dead for a few minutes? Just a cheap plot device for a quick emotional ride for the audience, when in retrospect was cheap and not all that poignant.

Outstanding citation, Cap. I just accidentally caught it one day and stayed with it. Very fine.
---
I have an older one, early '90's: "Shock to the System." Stars Michael Caine as an advertising executive who is passed over for a promotion that he and his wife (Swoosie Kurtz) were positive he was getting. This reminds me in some ways of another fine picture Rod Serling's "Patterns" from 1959 concerning corporate protocol and process. "Shock" is quite a treat as Caine goes about the business of murdering the people who stand in his way. The scenes in the office are highly charged and will raise your hackles immediately. The remainder of the cast is fine, with Will Patton as the detective who see's it all, but, can't get to it. It's Caine's picture though and he delivers the goods again, and again, and again.
This is outstanding materiel.

"The Rapture" from 1991. This is at times a disturbing motion picture as a child (her daughter) is "given to God" as an act of faith & belief. But, it is also fascinating as the end of times does indeed take place and is depicted in a small but intriguing manner. It stars Mimi Rogers, at prime. She was so hot then. I God's. And David Duchovny. I've seen it twice (in the far past) and saw it in the listings yesterday so I DVR'ed it. It's waiting and I'm going to watch it again sometime today if I can screw up the snut.

2 Guns- 7/10. Cliche action film but loved the chemistry between Wahlberg and Washington. Wahlberg has some nice one-liners/jokes.
We're The Millers- 7/10. I didn't get the hate really. Just a dumb comedy thats good for some laughs.
Kickass 2- 8/10. Wasn't better than the original, but I didn't think this one sucked. I liked it....

Lone Star (1996) - 10/10. Can't believe I missed out on this one.
Thumbs up, great movie. One of those films you don't mind re-watching from time to time.
Jobs - 0/10. Felt thoroughly duped after seeing this movie, thought it was going to be a documentary about people going to work, instead about the guy who created Apple Computer starring Michael Kelso. Barf.

Watched "Jack the giant slayer" the other night. It would've been a good movie if they had choosen the right actors, but sadly the chosen actors all turned out to be horrible fits for their roles, with Ewan McGregor being the only exception maybe. They got Rooney's brother to act as Jack, dude's not as fat and has more hair but still looked as shitty and hilarious as the role could ever get, while that Isabelle actress didn't seem to even know how to act. You can't let kids run the show and expect to win the box office, tbh.

was on track for 8/10 then the snakebite scene, was like they handed the script over to "hollywood" writers at that point, very disappointing.

watched IronMan 3 last night and I agree with most of you guys that this movie sucks, probably even worse than Rambo 4 and Captain America 1 tbh. Marvels studio will need to get my goddess back to rescue IronMan 4 as well as the series, if the series should still exist after the epic failure of Iron Man 3. Captain America 1 is shit but I'm expecting CA2 to hit some sort of success. My goddess never disappoints me, never. :cry

watched "the horse whisperer" last night. I just got done downloading that shit last night and I couldn't wait to watch it. It was like the oldest movie I've downloaded with my goddess in. She looked so young back then and gorgeous as she always is, incredibly beautiful for a 13yr old imho. And her voice was so clear and tuneful, it made me long to know how sweet her voice would've sounded now if she had never smoked :cry.

Birdsong - 10/10. Although not a direct adaptation of the WWI-setting novel (leaves out the 3rd story in the movie), this BBC production was beautifully written, directed, and acted. Joseph Mawle as Jack Firebrace is probably one of my favorite characters I've ever seen on film. Eddie Redmayne was great as the lead too, and was 2 completely different people pre and during war--which was how it was. I recommend this to EVERYONE.

Watched "Manny & Lo" last week, and it was a good film that was well worth the 30 hours that I spent downloading it imho, at least my goddess was the No.1 protagonist in that film and she was so cute back then :cry She looked so small it was really hard to believe she was only 3 years younger than Lo

Watched Scoop last night and now I know why my nigga Jacob was so obsessed with the Scarlett in that red swimming suit. A good movie overall, not the most classic one either by my goddess's or Woody's standard but it's still worth watching, and watching again. And, my goddess in that red swimming suit was the sexist Scarlett my friend Jacob and I have ever seen.
If there's something I don't like about this film, it's Woody's excessive involvement in it. Woody is a great director/writer and he's funny as hell, but I still think the movie would've been even better if he had kept his card tricks and his Jewish accent away from the film, IMHO.
At the end of the film my goddess made a fool of Hugh Jackman's character, which's the part of this film that I like best, besides the goddess in red swimming suit of course, though I was having a hard time breathing after seeing her drowning in the lake until she reappeared with her hair and clothes totally saturated.
World War Z- 7/10
Same. Didn't grab me at all. Wasn't concerned for anyone in the film tbh. Didn't set it up right, poor character development, just had Pitt and a shit ton of CGI. That's how Hollywood is now though, big name, no game. Total waste of Pitt's talent.

The fact is I'm gonna watch and like every movie casting my goddess (except those shittiest ones like My brother the pig). CA2 won't achieve any bigger success than either of the previous two IronMan films, but certain it'll be much better than IM3 and CA2. CA2 will certainly be an upgrade over the prior CA film, just for my goddess's sake

watched "in good company" last night and of course, it was another film starring my goddess. besides, however, I was surprised to find another familiar face in that film- Agent Coulson :lol It appeared he had less hair back then in "in good company" (released in 04) than he had in the Avengers, which was strange enough, maybe he had grown some hair back or had transplanted some pubic hair up to his head like Wayne Rooney did a while back. The part I liked best was when that jerk and goddess's made a clown of Agent Coulson at the end of the film, which was classic. The end of the movie was a sad one, imho, that jerk and my goddess loved each other but had to break up under her dad's pressure, but it seemed her dad had relinquished his repugnance against that guy when he made the phone call to him telling him about the birth of his new baby. It leaves the audience considerable room for imagination on their own, imho. Another great film by my goddess that should've won her some sort of award.

Man of Tai Chi - 8 /10
I think people wrote this off when they heard Keanu Reeves directed it, but it is a really good martial arts fight film. The fights are well designed, and more importantly, well shot. No stupid shaky cam or quick cuts. The camera stays back, allowing us to really understand the geography of each fight. The attention and effort put into making good fights is evident, and there are a crap load of them.
bonus points for casting Iko Uwais, the lead from The Raid as one of the final fight opponents.

I'm getting overload from all the historical gangster movies and series I've seen. Right now I'm watching Hoodlum and it looks like Bumpy Johnson is unwittingly trying to kill his future self fromAmerican Gangster in some kind of weird Looper setup.
Star Trek Into Darkness 8/10 - I thoroughly enjoyed this movie. Don't know what all the whining was about. Sure it had its minor issues, like all films, but overall was a great flick.
With that said, if Abrams wants to keep the nerd trek fans, he is gonna have to change the formula next film and tone it down. The action was great, slightly over the top in spots, in the first two. But a big part of Star Trek is the non-action drama / mystery. If the next movie is the same as the first two, he will lose the Trek nerds forever.

I watched this and at first was also doing some work in the computer and was thinking what the fuck . But eventually started paying attention to it. I need to see it again but 8/10 seems right.
Trance 9/10
Has gotten a lot of interwebs hatred for being too hard to understand but I swear to God that's a testament to an internationally decreasing collective IQ rather than the film being shit.
