I'm cool with the Spurs virtually running it back but in all likelihood, Duncan declines a hair compared to this season and Manu continues his rapid decline. Going to need monster years from Kawhi, Tiago, Joseph etc. if the Spurs want to have a realistic shot at doing anything. The Spurs needed to add a significant piece and they had the $ to do so. Pretty disappointing but expected.

I don't normally agree with gnsf, but he's right. Spurs don't need big changes, but a vet PG and a smallball 4 would be nice as well.

I think they have added players that can effectively eat minutes for declining players. Belli can eat minutes for Manu and they just added another big that can ease the minutes load Duncan/allow Duncan to take more games off against meaningless teams. Leonard is only going to get better and better. I expect him to play like a demon this season after losing in the Finals. We all would have liked to have had AK-47, but I think as long as they pick up a decent backup SF to go with what they already have they've got as good of a shot as they had last year. No one in the West really got better except Houston(in theory) and GS(still not championship caliber).

Garcia with the "cooler heads prevailing" goods.

353579393903370240

Yeah, because the NBA just picks up where it left off last season like one great big reality tv show. Other teams won't improve their rosters, the Spurs health and depth will be better than ever, Spurs won't get hit by the flukey injury bug that was going around, Ginobili will return to form, and rebounding won't be an issue because the Spurs are going to shoot lights out. Yep, Garcia has it all figured out.

It's hard to know what happened. The only real options that could have improved the Spurs from a 3/4 standpoint were Millsap and AK-47. We saw how much Millsap got. There is a very real chance that they reached out to Kirilenko and the price was simply too high. There is still time and assets to improve though. We'll see what happens.

That just tells me that the Spurs are keeping their options open. Both Belinelli and Pendergraft could be paid out of the MLE or some other avenue that would still allow capspace to be used at this point. Looks to me like the Spurs want to see what the cap figure is before finalizing details.

Agreed. That is the one thing that gives me hope that the Beli/Pendegraph contracts are fluid. The most likely thing is they end up both coming from the MLE, but the fact no specific details on where they are coming from leads me to believe that the Spurs have a plan and are exploring options. You don't mention specifics when you are unsure where you will have to pay them from.

Wouldn't it have been nice if the Spurs had signed Jarrett Jack to replace Manu and become that backup PG to Tony Parker that we desperately need? He is costing a little less than Manu. Not only that, but he is also probably coming off the bench for Kyrie Irving. Good fuc*ing shi* RC and Pop. I hate you'll.

I think Harris' price tag is a little steep, but if you want a backup point guard who can run the offense similar to the way Parker does it, Harris might have been an option. Harris is less done than Beaubois, who would also have been a good fit, style wise.

I wouldn't assume this necessarily means there would be a trade. They haven't prioritized having a logical amount of players at each position for years. They're routinely overstocked at SG and PF and understocked everywhere else (this is no longer an issue at PG or C, obviously). So if they don't like the options available at SF, stupid as it would be, they might not sign one.

Morrow makes no sense. He hasn't been the all-time great three-point shooter in the making he once appeared to be for three years now. Granted, given the looks he'd get on the Spurs, he probably would eclipse 40% again, but still. He can't do anything else even close to average and can't play SF.

For a coach that loves to play small, I don't understand the aversion to big wings/combo forwards. They are the key to being able to play small.

Of course it does. If we're to have any sort of rational discussion about "good deals" and "bad deals" there has to be some common frame of reference. These deals can't be evaluated in a vacuum (or a bubble, as someone often says). They have to be compared to some sort of standard. That standard could be contracts received by similar players. It could be the reasonable assets that a team could have acquired if they had not signed a particular player. It could be the player's economic value to the team. I'm sure there are others, but there must be an agreed upon standard of some sort.

Jerebko maybe

Not really a SF, but he could be useful. Overpaid, but useful.

Middleton would make the most sense. I know they were really high on him when they drafted him, as they guaranteed his first two seasons, a rarity for a second round pick.

But even after they officially sign Smith and their draft picks, they should still have enough cap space to sign Neal outright, so there's no need for them to surrender a prospect they're high on, at a position they lack depth at.

only if they believed a Spurs threat to match. Even giving the Spurs a trade exception should that be possible with their cap situation might be useful.

neal with the pistons would be great
he could not hurt spurs in playoffs

Wait, misread that. Thought it was for $25mil. Not a bad signing tbh.

Not a bad deal for Denver, but their frontcourt is very redundant, tbh..

Their average defense is going to drop to the bottom by losing Iggy and adding Hickson, tbh..

Still like the signing, though..they needed a big that can create scoring opportunities..

I'd rather have Hickson than Beli/Pend if the Spurs were going to spend 5M anyways IMO.

They could amnesty MWP and give him the MLE.

I would be shocked if Kaman takes the Mini-MLE to play for a weakened Lakers Team.

There are so many different things that could happen its quite possible. Spurs have tried to do some questionable things in the past like convert SG to PG so who knows.

I'd like the idea of MWP coming to the Spurs, but IMO he'll end up elsewhere. He strikes me as one of those players that say positive things about the Spurs but when given the chance to play with them will turn it down and join the competition.

Worse than ZaZa or Hickson? If he takes the mini-mle it's because everyone is willing to take less to play in LA.

Two decades teetering between low playoff seeds and late lottery picks. Almost always mediocre. Never any reason for hope.

The Atlanta Hawks are negotiating with Monta Ellis, per a source. I'm hearing deal would be about $10 million a year. Not sure about years.
