I literally make fun of Monta Ellis every day. Absolutely comical that were thinking about going after him. He's a straight up jacker. Nothing more.

The complete anti-spur. Him and JR Smith are the last two players on planet Earth that I could ever in my wildest dreams imagine in a Spurs uniform.

Monta could take over from Neal and the backup PG position, playing 15 minutes at PG and 15 minutes at SG if he came here. I could see him fitting role wise but not salary wise.

The New Orleans Pelicans (http://espn.go.com/nba/team/_/name/no/new-orleans-pelicans) are looking to upgrade the small forward position and ESPN.com's Marc Stein (https://twitter.com/ESPNSteinLine/status/351526169134374912) reports they met with Tyreke Evans (http://espn.go.com/nba/player/_/id/3983/tyreke-evans) on Sunday night just after the new salary cap year began.

And then we had TNT/NBA.com's David Aldridge (https://twitter.com/daldridgetnt/status/351544045350297601) follow up with this tweet: "... Told they will have an offer sheet in hand--a big one."

The Pelicans should have around $7.3 million in salary cap after they acquire Jrue Holiday (http://espn.go.com/nba/player/_/id/3995/jrue-holiday)from the Philadelphia 76ers (http://espn.go.com/nba/team/_/name/phi/philadelphia-76ers). A first-year salary around that amount isn't too high and there is a good chance the Sacramento Kings (http://espn.go.com/nba/team/_/name/sac/sacramento-kings) will match that amount. Evans may be seeking an annually salary around $10 million.

The Pelicans are showing interest in Chris Copeland (http://espn.go.com/nba/player/_/id/6635/chris-copeland) and Andre Iguodala (http://espn.go.com/nba/player/_/id/2386/andre-iguodala).

Drewlius
07-01-2013, 08:29 AM
The Houston Rockets (http://espn.go.com/nba/team/_/name/hou/houston-rockets) released Aaron Brooks (http://espn.go.com/nba/player/_/id/3192/aaron-brooks) and Carlos Delfino (http://espn.go.com/nba/player/_/id/1999/carlos-delfino) on Sunday before their contracts became guaranteed for 2013-14. Both players should draw plenty of interest and Brooks may land the first deal.

According to the New York Daily News (http://www.nydailynews.com/sports/basketball/mutual-interest-brooks-knicks-article-1.1386632), the New York Knicks (http://espn.go.com/nba/team/_/name/ny/new-york-knicks) and Brooks have a "mutual interest" in each other.

The Knicks are in need of help at point guard as Jason Kidd retired to become the Brooklyn Nets (http://espn.go.com/nba/team/_/name/bkn/brooklyn-nets) head coach and Pablo Prigioni (http://espn.go.com/nba/player/_/id/4182/pablo-prigioni) may not return. Currently the only point guard under contract is Raymond Felton (http://espn.go.com/nba/player/_/id/2753/raymond-felton).

Should Brooks agree to a deal with New York, it will likely be for just the league minimum

Howard going to H-town helps the Spurs.

The Lakers have no FA money whether they re-sign Howard or not.

Howard soaks up FA money only if he goes elsewhere. If he does, the Spurs can become players for some of the remaining FAs.

Oklahoma City has begun an aggressive pursuit of Philadelphia free-agent guard Dorell Wright (http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/players/3836), league sources told Yahoo! Sports.
Wright, 27, averaged 9.2 points in 72 games for the Sixers a season ago.

The Thunder are working to stay below the luxury tax threshold this season, searching for bargain contributors able to spread the floor and make shots. The return of Kevin Martin (http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/players/3843) to the Thunder appears unlikely, unless the market for him dries up completely and he has to return at a far lower rate than he's trying to find, league sources said.

If Dwight wanted to win like he says he does, he should really consider GSW tbh...Yeah but at the cost of losing Klay Thompson and Harrison Barnes? Those two are great shooters. Howard needs shooters around him. "If Dwight wanted to win like he says he does," he should take a massive pay cut and play for the Warriors. On a serious note though, GSW should consider switching out David Lee for Klay Thompson as part of the deal. I mean DH12 can do everything that Lee does which is rebound.

I don't usually say this but Bogut and Klay for Dwightmare would be going full retard.

How is Dwight going to work in GSW's uptempo offense when he couldn't hack it under Dantoni?I agree. I actually think that a better deal would be Dwight Howard for Andrew Bogut and David Lee. The salaries would be more evened out and Dwight can do everything that Bogut and Lee do combined. A starting lineup of Dwight Howard, Harrison Barnes, Klay Thompson, and Steph Curry = Championship.

DPG21920
07-01-2013, 12:57 PM
It's a risky move for GS, but to be honest I think it's a risk worth taking. Bogut, while talented, is oft injured and can't be relied upon. While he's a tremendous post defender, that is less and less important in today's NBA. Not only can Dwight give you better post defense, but he's overall a much better defender. He's a more dominant offensive player as well.

If it's for Barnes (incredibly unlikely if they are offering Klay) that's a no brainer for GS IMO. Even if it's for Klay, whom is a very talented player, I still think it is worth it.

BatManu20
07-01-2013, 12:59 PM
I really don't see Dwight going to GS. I think it's HOU or LA, that's it. He'd have to agree to a S&T with the Warriors.

Plus I'd rather him just leave or stay cause I don't want the LAkers getting assets.

Well, that is good news. AK47, within the hopeful 6-8M the Spurs could reasonable hope to have in cap space, is one of my top choices. Really hope that is true. Having everyone back outside of Bonner/Blair/Neal from last year's squad plus an AK47 would be tremendous. His health is of a big concern, but when healthy he is a great fit. Another really solid defender and play maker from the 3/4 spot.

Really juiced if we can somehow get him over here. If we can play him at the 4, he can still space the floor, but also create shots himself, and can actually dribble & rebound unlike half of our team.

:wow. Congrats to the Pelicans on landing Evans. Makes such little sense if they still have Gordon. Now they really have to move him and that seems as if they really brought down Gordon's value because teams know he has to go (as if they didn't already know..)

Would make little sense to the Clippers, as Bledsoe's salary is too small to help them give Mayo a good deal. They'd need to add other players. Getting Bledsoe probably allows Dallas to go into the Rondo discussions with a workable package, though.

If we have a hole in the lineup, I'd rather have any functioning player than Oden, because there's no guarantee he can stay healthy enough to contribute. But I'd love to bring in Oden to the deep bench with no expectations and give him a chance to prove he can play. If he gives us anything, it's gravy. Yep. The losers in the new CBA IMHO are those mid level players whom will get less than what they deserve, I think they should have just lowered the max contract to have balance in the league.

What does "deserve" mean?

In terms of producing revenue for the NBA -- selling tickets, selling jerseys, getting people to watch games on TV -- LeBron alone is worth far more than the entire salary cap. And in terms of getting a fair wage for the amount of work you put in, even a guy with a minimum contract is doing far better than someone doing, say, road construction.

I just had the realization that the next CBA is going to stiffly restrict free agency. We can't have all the top 15 players in the league trying to go to 2 or 3 or even 5 cities.

The super team business is going to approach the elastic limit of ridiculous and there will be a terrible overreaction of a rubber banding effect back to a normal state.

I'm not sure about that. Things like Dwight being offered a TV show are ways to go around that cap... so they take less salary but get more in endorsements... the CBA can't deal with off the court income... that's the big flaw on it...

I meant in terms of in-game production, guys like Landry, Gerald Henderson, Dunleavy, Devin Harris, Korver, Speights, Wellington, and Brewer. Those guys, at least for me, are mid-level contract players, but they'd most probably sign for half of that.

It's not just the cap. I mean, and we don't have to worry about this for like 10 years when the CBA needs renewing, but the NBA could conceivably exist without any free agency. I don't think it will get that bad, but I think it would be possible for the NBA to nix signings in the interest of parity.

There just needs to be great players in places besides Miami, LA and New York. If the coming crop of players is like Lebron's class, we could see more of this "I just want to hoop with my friends," "let's all team up" lameness. The Heat could be the beginning of a horrible trend of really good players wanting to take the easy way out. The league would have to combat such a problem fiercely.

Well, you have Howard telling the Rockets they need to get another superstar... so it gets to the point where it's all about stacking the deck than working hard towards the goal.

Wtf that's pretty damn cheap.

Dunleavy already gone, Bucks will likely overpay Reddick, and OJ Mayo getting interest from like 6 different teams. Who's left? Kirilenko, maybe Jarrett Jack? Not looking good. Surprised the Spurs didn't offer Dunleavy something... maybe saving cap room for Kirilenko.

It'll be interesting to see what Nikola Pekovic does. Haven't heard anything on him lately other than that Minny extended him a QO. I know the Blazers were interested but can't afford him after the T-Rob trade. I think the Twolves match anything thrown at him. And, once Dwight makes up his mind all the other Centers will be scooped up quickly more than likely.

The perfect off-season for me would be if the Spurs re-sign Splitter and Ginobili as well as sign Kirilenko and Oden as free-agents. If the Spurs have to trade a first round pick and Splitter for Gortat I am not interested. It's a realistic possibility too. :toast

I see your point, but your earlier idea of lowering the individual max salary is actually the opposite of what the league needs to do. The league should eliminate the individual maximum salary and allow teams to pay a player as much as they want under the cap.

As it stands, Howard will get a max contract anywhere he goes, so cap-circumvention stuff like a TV show with the Lakers (and other endorsement opportunities in big markets) can really tip the scales. However, if Houston was allowed to offer Howard their entire cap space (I don't know the number, call it $30M), the Lakers, being over the cap, couldn't match it. If the Kings wanted to go after LeBron next year they could try and clear their entire cap and offer him something like $50M.

This would prevent the formation of superteams because the elite talent would be more spread-out around the league. LeBron obviously would rather have his max money in Miami than Cleveland, but if Cleveland could offer him $10-15M more per year (I know they couldn't in 2010 because they were capped out and that Miami had all the cap space), he might have stayed.

I figured that there was a chance that Splitter could possibly get a team that would try to over pay just to get him.. And it looks like that day may soon come. I also thought that if it were to actually happen, to just let him walk. Would have been okay with it, had he actually showed up in the finals but didn't.
No wonder the spurs didn't waive Bonner and its less likely they amnesty him this year. oh well..
