TBH, Duncan should have left and joined the Heat last year. He takes a paycut, has a historic revival season, while Manu selfishly plays for Argentina and heals his injuries on company time and plays like shit all while being overpaid. And the Spurs reward this behavior by overpaying him again. Spurs FO can go fuck themselves.

That's been getting to me all week. Just because these people report on basketball (and I use the term "report" liberally here), doesn't make them experts on the CBA or on capology. In fact, the seem to have a very loose understanding of it.
It's one thing to post tweets when someone breaks a deal. But it's so pointless to post their speculation.

ATL locking up Korver theoretically takes away one more more Kirilenko suitor from the pool.
But if Korver can get 6/year, I'd imagine AK's asking price to be around 8-9 million a year.

Exactly, Seriously, Splitter was only 2 points and 1 point behind Jefferson and Howard last year in 48min Proficieny Ratings. Splitter isn't no scrub player.
I hope the Mavs do sign Big Al because that would eat all there remaining cap space. And it would mean that the Spurs would be the only contending team that could offer AK the full MLE and you really can't even call the Mavs a contending team at this point. There are some crappy teams with cap to sign him to a larger deal, but that would basically defeat his purpose of opting out to go to a contending team.

He's a 6'6 point guard who is a good passer and can shoot the ball. Is basically a 15 & 10 player per around 37 minutes, that's beyond solid for a backup. I think he could put us over the top. Could play a little two guard too.

I'd try to give them a guard or something for him. I don't think he's worth a first when they already have to draft picks backing up Parker now. Maybe if Vasquez had more than one year left on his deal, I'd still consider it. But a first in next year's draft is too much to pay for a rental.

Why a rental? Who's to say we can't resign him next year? He's 5 years younger than Parker and could fill a starting role once Parker leaves or retires. Might could even be Ginobili's replacement at the 2.

Seems like he might like it in SA and want to stay.
I would trade a first for him even if there wasn't a guarantee though. I know the draft is strong next year but lets stop acting like we know what's going to be there in the late 20s. Plus, if the Spurs really want back in the draft when the time comes then they can worry about making a move to get back in it.
Vasquez is a game changer and exactly what the Spurs need.

They can extend him this season, but as benefactor said, what price would be worth it? They'd have to give up some of their guards just to let it all make sense. Maybe send Joseph to Toronto and De Colo go Atlanta. In any event, I'd love a competent backup point-guard (especially a young one), but I'd be wary about trading for him without a good extension in mind. That'd at least insure he's going to buy in to coming off the bench.

Chinook

A first could just end up becoming another Jean-Charles, so I know it's not exactly invaluable, but still, that's a lot of picks to invest in one position.
I also think Joseph could be a lot better next season. De Colo could as well, especially now that it seems he's buying in. I don't think the team should take giving up on them lightly.

ElNono
07-04-2013, 12:06 AM
we're gonna be playing plenty of small ball too in that second unit, I suspect... so a 3 guard combo out there is not out of the question. I don't see getting Vazquez meaning CoJo/DeColo can't play. He could just have Neal's role.

I imagine a Vasquez extension would be in the neighborhood of $20-25M/4. If he makes that much money, he'll probably be the new sixth man. While I think we could (and as of now would) see Ginobili and Green play the three a good deal, Vasquez would probably eat all of the backup point-guard minutes and a good deal of Ginobili's minutes. Or of De Colo, Mills and Joseph would be a fringe rotation player, but the other would be in a suit most games. Those players need to get game time to figure things out.

Kirilenko looking for a three year contract and is willing to think about veteran minimum after that -

Give him a four year contract with the fourth year partially guaranteed (MLE?) and I think there is a way he could be swayed.

Please make it happen Spurs.. Something tells me another team will give him a 3 year deal at $7-9 million. And guarantee a starting spot. Spurs can do neither.

Clips definitely got better this off season.
That is the only team I can really see who did! They did get better. They got a better coach now too. BROOKLYN got better too IMO, but they are not a top three team out East IMO so blahhhhhhhhhhh that is not my concern. Other than that others got worse or just stood pat so far.
Vasquez would fit perfectly on this team as a backup PG. He's a cerebral player in a picknroll scheme and he has a swagger about him. The Spurs should go after him.
But Minny can't afford him having signed Martin & Budinger and soon to resign Pekovic.

I think he screwed up by opting out and putting out there he wants to play for a contender. He is probably not getting the interest that his agent thought he was and so is now trying to work out a deal to stay.

I don't know. His stats are pretty good. 18 & 9. Last year in the playoffs he averaged the same against Splitter. His D is pretty bad, while his offense is much, much better than Splitter's. I'd still wouldn't give him 13,6m a year, but if Manu is worth 7M then fuck it.

'Cats would still suck, but still better than this year or last. Think of the Bucks, or Kings. This year, they get a legit go-to guy, although he's no franchise player. But if Zeller pans out, MKG improves and stays healthy, Walker continues improving and if Biyombo becomes AT LEAST a rotation player, then they could fight for the 8th seed but ultimately come up short. A lot of ifs, but that's how the 'Cats are.

He's not awful...but he's an empty stat machine nonetheless...and he's certainly not worth almost 14 million a year. I'd much rather have a big that is an elite pick and roll player, actually plays defense and can pass for 8-9 million than an offense only player for 5-6 million more per year.

He would give up as many points as he provided on the other end. Spurs don't need him...and they certainly don't need him for that type of money. They need a combo forward that can play effective small ball.

Hard to get both when the one used to "keep duncan fresh" is making 36M.
Splitter is completely useless without Tony feeding him bunnies at the rim. He's a good defender but soft as tissue paper. And the Spurs rewarded that with $36M. It is what it is.
And I have a hard time seeing under any circumstance Jefferson playing any worse than Tiago did during that particular series.

Not a bad deal.
I'm sure the usual greys are going to be angry it wasn't AK47.

Haven't really seen much of Belinelli, but I remember seeing mock drafts before the 07 draft that says his most accurate player projection is Manu. I don't think it turned out that way, but anyone here familiar with Belinelli? What can we expect out of him, aside from shooting?

Given all the injuries to the bulls this postseason, he was the 2nd facilitator behind Robinson. He's a streaky shooter who can run the pick and roll decently. Not a great defender but better than Neal. Doesn't drive much to the basket.

Just as I thought! Well, at least from the very few times I've seen him. Thanks for confirming it, and for the heads up on Belinelli too! :toast

(http://twitter.com/AlexKennedyNBA)Anthony Morrow has been in contact with the L.A. Lakers, San Antonio Spurs, Phoenix Suns, Houston Rockets and New York Knicks, per a source.
I would give this a thumbs up, but we signed Belinelli already, no need for him anymore as a Neal replacement

At this point, I would be ok with Oden (assuming he can play semi decently) and Casspi

I'm not buying this tbh unless the Spurs wanted to include Green in a trade which I'd be completely against.

Morrow probably just in talks for a camp invite.
Wonder if the Spurs' interest in Corey Brewer is still there from last year. I would think he would get offers similar to AK -- not that he's better necessary, but he is younger and has shown a willingness to work on his game. May be a good Plan B? Blazers, Hawks, Kings, and Rockets have been linked to him this off-season.

They'd have to salary dump RJ, Biedrins, and Lee. No way to get that done. Too bad that they used their amnesty on a $4M player.

Yeah and they used the amnesty clause on Bell to make a 40m bid on Deandre Jordan.
What a massive fail seriously :lmao

If I am the Lakers I'm doing everything possible to land a Bogut + Barnes +1st for Howard trade. That sets LA up really nice following next season. They would have Kobe (30M), Gasol (20M), and Bogut (15M) all coming off the books mixed in with a very promising player in Barnes and two 1st round draft picks in next years strong draft.

I mentioned something similar on another thread a few days ago. Bogut and Harrison Barnes for DH12 would be a good deal. To match the numbers, Bogut and David Lee for DH12 would be even better. DH12 can pretty much do everything that Bogut and Lee do combined, not to mention the fact Bogut and Lee are always getting injured. The most important thing for GSW is to keep their shooters like Thompson, Curry, and Barnes. DH12 needs all the shooters that he can get to spread the floor.

Beyond convincing Howard, they have to do one of two things:
1. Clear 34M in cap space over the weekend or
2. Get the Lakers to agree to a sign and trade (while not giving up so much that Howard no longer wants to go there)
Good luck with that.

Good luck with that.If GSW can hold on to Klay Thompson, Steph Curry, and Harrison Barnes/Jarret Jack, then that will be enough to entice Dwight Howard to sign with the Warriors IMO.
