well at least we know Biden will win VA and PA against Trump. Not sure about the other states, but MN looks promising for Ol' Joe too.

Hilarious if Biden failed to get 15% threshold to get any delegates in CA

Even Bloomy is beating Biden in CA

If anyone screwed Bernie tonight, it was Warren.
She screwed him in a few states that didn’t have a lot of delegates. Not much of a factor.

Bernies problem is that his base didn’t expand at all beyond the 25-30% he’s been getting. I’m surprised but it’s pretty clear that’s what happened.

yes, but it's trended red in the same type of way states like VA, CO, NV and even to some extent NC and TX have trended blue over the past few cycles. MN is full of white, less college educated, union, working class. Hillary won by a hair and was losing it most of the night.

like, how MI, WI and PA have trended red slowly but surely and it finally cracked in '16. As for Ohio... don't think that one ever turns back blue except in a blue tsunami perhaps.

check out RCP... back to virtual tie... Bernie lost double digit lead in a NY minute.

Bernie would have faced the same issue here with the black vote anyways. It is now clear Bernie's lead in state polls and national polls were because Biden was percieved as a loser who couldn't even place second or third in Iowa or NH.

It's over.

yeah that 9.85% is a killer, and why i ask recruiters for 140k+ if the job is based in minneapolis because i argue that it's about the same as 125k in dallas because of salt tax.

maybe the Fat Amy's of the world should, ya know, consider cutting that steep number in half? It's way too steep considering it's such a cold place to live and not really that cheap either in terms of housing or goods/services/cost of living.

The voters should vote for Trump and then elect GOP senators/lawmakers and work on getting that uber high SALT cut in half up there

Trump’s 2016 roadmap only worked because he had Roger Ailes using the most widely viewed right wing media outlet to cram him down everyone’s throat as the best candidate, which is the essential element Bernie didn’t have. As toxic as the DNC is having a 24/7 news cycle from what are supposedly left wing pundits constantly questioning your electability was going to be too much and is what made the difference here imo.

Biden? If there's one strong thing about Biden it's how well he debates. He kicked Palin's ass big time and then manhandled Ryan as well..
You’re not remembering 2008 but while he beat Palin all the stories after were about how well Palin held her own when she was expected to get crushed.

He did beat Paul Ryan simply because Paul Ryan’s views for the 2012 election were retarded.

I think what happened, is that Bernie's path to victory was Trump's 2016, let the other candidates cannibalize each other until super tuesday and then take a big enough lead, nobody can catch up. Bernie's strength this entire time was that he consistently polled at 20-25%. With the exception of the deep south, he got around 20-25%, he never found a way to consistently expand his base.

Bernie's strength was Democrats were just voting on who they think can win. That's why Biden collapsed after the first few states. Then Biden won a state and got backed by two pretty popular candidates and they went right back to him.

Party of open borders and universal basic income. Seems fine.

Eh, I'm actually relatively conservative when it comes to immigration. I could definitely deal with a dem candidate that didn't pander toward dreamers and shit. But yeah, the reason why we'd be able to get a moderate plan would be because the extreme position (not really open boarders but broad forgiveness) is normalized. Who knows what kinda draconian system we'd have if the left was scared to even bring up the idea of amnesty?

UBI/UBC/Basic is a thing that will have to happen eventually, because there just won't be a way for average folks to earn a decent living. It would be nice if the country were at least familiar with the idea and had time to figure out how to implement it and what effects it will have before then. Right now, I fear that it'll be a huge expansion of welfare that's going to put a huge strain on the working people while the business owners of the automate systems skate. That's just the kind of unsustainable and toothless plan that Congress likes to push out nowadays.

I'll vote for Biden but it's going to be a moot point. I expect the polls to be empty like they were in 2016 when I voted for Hillary. He's not beating Trump. Dem's had their golden goose with Bernie and blew it again rallying around a guy with onset dementia.

Dems did everything they can to prevent Bernie Sanders from winning and it worked. Amy Klobuchar and Pete Buttigieg dropped out to endorse Biden. Andrew Yang and Tulsi Gabbard never endorsed Bernie. Elizabeth Warren blatantly refused to drop out to take away votes from Bernie. Like my boy hater said, it was all a strategic plan to sabotage Bernie.

Texas notwithstanding in the general, Virginia is a key state that needs to be in the blue column.

Biden can win. What concerns me is his mental health. He’s just not totally there. Trumps not either though.
Trouble is Trump supporters aren’t totally there either.

Bernie winning would not mean he could put any of his policies into practice,

because the majority of House Dems are center right neolibs, certainly not strong progressives (outside of The Squad), who will not vote for progressive bills w/o diluting them to nothingness

Of course, the Repug Senate would continue to OBSTRUCT every fucking bill passed by a Dem House. 400 Dem bills blocked in 3 years, so far.

President Biden simplistically, naively still thinks he can still reach across the aisle, having totally missed that Congressional collegiality died in the 1980s, at latest.

The oligarchy whore Repugs will continue to destroy govt, while blocking any attempts by the Dems to reverse the Repug destruction.

I doubt the Dems would make the effort, effectively in silent, dickless compliance

Any progress Bernie would make with Presidential powers would all be reversed and destroyed by the next Repug President.

The situation is totally hopeless.

You don't think so? Show me why not.

Whatever the DNC's involvement, their top priority is to put forth a winning candidate. They consolidated candidates and put the choice in the hands of the people. The people chose Biden, and given that the supposed masses of excited new voters we expected to give Bernie a victory over Trump didn't show up for him in the primary, I can't really say it was the wrong decision. The alternative was a primary vote split by 7 hopefuls and a winner who got 30% of the vote or less.

So you don't think that those three dropping out the eve of Super Tuesday and all of the sudden backing Biden then the day after Bloomberg drops out and immed backs Biden? The DNC was never going to allow Bernie to win the nomination, and they made moves to ensure that they got their guy in there. I was definitely not a Bernie Bro, hell I barely commented at all on the primaries until it became clear that this shit was rigged from the start.

If they truly wanted to rig it for Biden, Bloomberg wouldn't have still been in the race siphoning votes from him. The assumption that Warren was there to steal votes from Bernie is not supported by polling that shows Warren voters were more likely to choose a moderate as their second choice than Bernie. I didn't see any overtly anti-Sanders ads or campaigns leading up to Super Tuesday.

There's no doubt they had a preference. But this wasn't like superdelegates going against the will of the people. It was put to a vote and the Bernie voters either didn't show up or they weren't as numerous as we thought. The DNC didn't have to rig anything.

The only thing odd in this scenario is that Bloomberg would wait until after Super Tuesday to drop out of the race if the whole point was stopping Bernie. If Bloomberg drops out last week, Biden wins in a landslide.

I don’t think you’re wrong for thinking this looks orchestrated at all but to immediately jump to conspiracy theories is a stretch. Candidates drop and endorse other candidates all the time. Warren had that choice too.

The DNC is not this competent to pull this off. And no one knew Biden would win anything after he was basically left for dead. Was the plan to have Biden purposefully lose the first 3 contests, add another useless dynamic into the race in Bloomberg, risk splitting more votes thus freeing up Bernie, have Bloomberg do shitty, drop out and then endorse Biden?

Isn’t it more likely that things just lined up perfectly starting with SC and the only viable person to beat Bernie became Biden?

In a convention fight between Sanders and a more moderate candidate, some Democrats suggest Warren’s role would be to emerge as a consensus alternative: liberal enough for Sanders’ supporters and tolerable for moderates as well.

Doesn't this all beg the question of why doesn't Bernie bow out now? Like you said, Warren is situated to gather moderates as well as progressives - that's been her gambit. The Dems would be foolish to think that Texas is there for the taking in 2020. I'd pay more attention to the figures in the swing states. North Carolina (which Trump won in 2016 by 3.6%) had a turnout of 1,194,778 voters for the democrats and 798,773 for the republican (it is a semi-closed primary). Virginia only held a primary for the Democrats but they did have almost 1.3 million voters show up. The Midwest will be interesting to watch in seeing how many each party brings out, but especially in seeing how Biden fares in the key states of Ohio, Wisconsin and Michigan (it would not be a favorable sign for him if he loses some of these states to Sanders). Pennsylvania will also be big. Maybe Florida. Another interesting note. Much attention is being paid to how well Biden is doing with Black voters but not sure if anyone is noticing how poorly is doing with Latino voters.
