she was doing very well in early debates with the ridiculously crowded fields, and i think she had the standout moment from those early ones when she railed on people who "go through the trouble of running for president just to talk about the things we cant do and shouldnt fight for"
her medicare for all pivot into "we'll do public option first and then come back to it" was a big red flag (and coincides with when she started plummeting in the polls following her brief stint being virtually tied with biden), but she was still my #1 until that lousy hit job. since then she's been circling the drain tbh

I didn’t mind the public option pivot too much she just handled it poorly. Quite frankly I actually think the road to M4A from where we are now is going to likely include a public option bill first, which if done correctly will eventually weaken the insurance companies and lead to single payer.

Lmao us moderate neoliberal scum democrats been telling you guys this for years. Especially since public option can be done with reconciliation which only needs 51 votes. Meanwhile you bros been calling any of us who doesn't support your absurd m4all plans (that need 60 votes) as monsters equivalent to someone who did 300 9/11s.

They still allow supplemental coverage for things like cosmetics, but:
Administrative costs make up for something like 25% of the cost of services right now, with hospitals having dedicated staff for billing/coding for various insurers. You drastically simplify that process and can attack cost there. They no longer need a collections department, etc.
you eliminate the concept of anybody being out of network. By having other plans, providers can just say... yeah we’re not gonna accept Medicare. When i was living in LA i had to drive to Lancaster to find a specialist covered in my plan. I’m sure others have had it worse
That also gives greater leverage to negotiate costs of services and drugs if they’re the only game in town. Though drug prices can alternatively be regulated through legislation

a public option would be an improvement to what we have, but it's a half measure that in and of itself does little to nothing to address the cost of services/drugs, and would create an even higher tax burden per capita on the govt plan. it would make it a tough selling point to transition from that to M4A (if that is the intended end goal), imho

Serious question though where have I ever said we should ban private insurance? I know Bernie says he wants to do it but doesn’t mean I agree with it. Imo if someone is willing to pay for private insurance then no reason to ban it, but I don’t think having private insurance should exempt someone from the taxes that pay for the public option.
Im also of the viewpoint that if you elect a moderate who’s end game is just a public option the Republicans will billy that president into just making modest Obamacare improvements with no public option. If you elect Bernie I think we’ll end up with a compromise that includes a public option.
I’d honestly be supporting Warren except for how bad I think she’d do against Trump. She’s accomplished more and has a more realistic plan, but she’s not a good enough politician the way Trump/Bernie are.

I think a public option that doesn’t suck together with no more employer mandate would put private insurance companies in real trouble. You’d have tens of millions of small business employees being forced into the public option over night and as a result it’d have a big enough pool of patients to control costs and provide better coverage.

iowa has accepted partial recount requests from sanders and buttigieg. expected to begin tuesday and take 2 days
they already completed the recanvass requests (a pre-requisite to recounts), which did shuffle some SDE's, but pete holding the smallest of leads. it is less than 0.1 SDE's. buttigieg currently has a lead by 2 national delegates, but it is noteworthy that the "last" delegate goes to the overall winner, so if the recount puts sanders up by the smallest of leads, he would wind up with 14 delegates to pete's 12.
from what i understand, the iowa dems did change the rules to allow for the objective math errors to be corrected during the recanvass step, so its entirely unclear what the recount will establish

Just saw this now...M4A is definitely what I’m striving for, my point is that a robust public option that can be done with 51 senators instead of 60 might be the most pragmatic bridge to get us there.

agree that it would be easier to get through. my concern is that it doesnt do much of anything to address cost of services, which is really a root problem is the whole system we have. and if it ends up not working out because of that, it's going to be a terrible "audition" for a government plan and would actually hurt M4A chances

I normally would say the whole banning private insurance bit is not necessary, but the US might be the exception. I mean if we’re going to even pretend that Bernies plan has any chance above 0% of passing, I would actually think Insurance companies would sabotage that shit like there’s no tomorrow.
As far as point 3, it’s a bit disingenuous... a lot of those countries do actually provide all of those except dental, and for point 4, what kind of deductibles are we talking about? $5000 or $30?

I think Biden and Buttplug are going to get phased out of a lot of the precincts by being just under 15%.
The two precincts CNN has shown so far have Sanders and Warren as the only two candidates getting delegates. I know it’s an insignificant sample size but you get the point.

Klobuchar and Pete are taking too much space. One or the two need to drop out if Biden wants to survive.
This is an interesting quagmire. Amy and Pete cant compete in non white places while Biden can in both. I think the reason he lost so badly with old whites last two times was because Pete took most of his votes in Iowa and Amy in NH.

Pete Buttigieg warns against nominating Sanders as Vermont senator gains momentum
https://www.cnn.com/2020/02/22/politics/pete-buttigieg-nevada/index.html
The former South Bend, Indiana, mayor used his final speech in Nevada on Saturday to first congratulate the Vermont senator on winning the state's caucuses before lambasting the message animating Sanders' campaign, attacking his movement as a "inflexible, ideological revolution"
What a pussy ass Gen Z bitch. Typical of them to be scared into representing a majority when what the world needs is a revolucion
Bernie's basic philosophy is NUTTY - work hard, achieve something and have the government take it from you and give to someone else who didn't. What does that do to anyone who strives to better his life, and why should someone who gets free x, y and z work? Pretty soon, no one will work. There ain't nothing that's for free.
So what do tell my son - no, you have to reject that elite university which I can't afford and go to a state university but that other person who racked up thousands in debt is gonna get it forgiven (and regardless of Bernie saying the RICH will pay for it, we all know that in the end, the middle class gets stuck with the bill).

I think it would be insane to run another Clinton Democrat after voters gave the Democratic party an enormous middle finger on 11-9. People hate the Democratic party and widely (and correctly IMO) view it as throwing the working class under the bus. The Democrats need to learn something from 2016 instead of blaming Russia.

Bill Clinton and Obama would have beaten Trump because they’re better politicians. Hillary wasn’t nearly as well-liked as either which made her more vulnerable. The centrist Dems have the same problem now with no JFK/Bill/Obama figure while Bernie is clearly the most popular candidate running because he’s authentic.

Obama ran as a progressive (hope and change!) but ended up being a moderate. I’d hardly call him an example of a successful moderate Dem campaign. Slick Willy is the one instance of centrist Dem success in a presidential election and it only worked because of a 3rd party who siphoned votes from Daddy Bush. Meanwhile Gore Kerry and Shillary were all examples of centrist Dems fucking the pooch.
Centrist Dems simply have a shitty track record at winning general elections, and if not for Ross Perot they’d have an even worse track record.

McGovern lost every state but Massachusetts. Young voters, I was one, were going to carry him to victory. Sanders will do better than McGovern but I’ll bet you $1000 dollars he loses to Trump and Democrats lose the house. Stupid Millennials would rather lose with Bernie than win with a centrist.

You think the Sandman can beat Trump and keep the House? Big part of the reason Dems have the House now is Bloomberg’s money. Not saying he’s a good alternative candidate but keep sniffing the Bernie glue.
The length some of you go to discredit people’s political success is astounding just because they don’t conform with your ideology.
Who was even the last progressive president this country had? Bernie and Warren are a new breed of progressive and up until this point they hadn’t won jack squad so I don’t understand the disdain for the way these parties have run for the past 50 years or so.

sure Bernie can beat Trump. if he gets the black vote which looks good so far and latino which looks also good so far and ignite Obama type excitement which also looks good. he can beat Trump definitely
no moderate can do all the 3 things I listed above. so its down to Bernie with 50% chance to beat Trump vs a moderate with 0-10% chance

If Bernie somehow can survive DNC onslaught he has a chance of generating Obama type excitement which would give Trump a run for his money.

That’s not saying much. Things are in disarray right now because everyone running in the dem side and their supporters think they’re the only ones who can be Trump. Trump in the other hand has consolidated support and he can’t still crack 45%.
I fully expect democrats to come to terms with the eventual nominee and vote. Even Hillary was able to do that. How hard is it to get the 70K votes she left in the 3 states she lost?
No one currently running in the dem side is more shitty than Hillary save for Bloomberg. If we can’t better Hillary’s numbers than we deserve Trump for a term+.

Disagree on his debating skills. He has skill the way Trump does: heavy on the bombast. I don’t think he’s as substantively good as Warren. He resorts to being loud and waving his hands.
He also misrepresents facts.

For some reason everyone seems to have a brain fart as to what happened in 2016. Bernie is a gift from the heavens for the Dems against this particular president. Maybe any other year when we didn’t have a President this unorthodox, but this time around Bernie imo is the only candidate that will stand any real chance against that clown. I had my doubts in 2016 and look where it got us. Not making the same mistake again. Biden seems to be taking the Clinton route and wants to ride the Obama thing again. It didn’t work for Hillary and I’m not sure why Biden’s people think it will work for him against a incumbent who has his same group of hardcore followers

there's been reports that REPUG suburban women have left Trump.
Bernie would get the youth, black (women), women, LGBT, and after NV, it looks like he getting the Hispanic vote. Trash is so bad, the mythical independents will probably vote anti-Trash
Trash/Repugs will always get the Macho Man / low-wage / low-ed rural male vote, even as Trash's govt has screwed their rural communities, esp health but Trash enriched so many of BigCorp / oligarchy, that they pour $100Ms in the Trash's lying/slandering/bullshitting campaign
btw, FL Repugs have also sent out false "IRS" letters. Repugs keep doing it, it must work, counting on the low-info, ignorant, dumbed-down, gullible people, esp the older ones, to fall for it. Repugs have always been the party that counts on, depends on voter ignorance, racism, xenophobia, hate.
If 2018 were a guide, the anybody-but-Trash/Repug crowd will be huge.
