And, both were 3* recruits in the 2017 25th rated class.
As a side note, 2005 NC class was stacked with NFL talent and people almost always talk about Vince but if truth be known, that team had a lot of 3* recruits as starters and two deep.

I like how he didn't say 1000% Committed.
I fully expect him to look around and take some visits. Sounds like he just wanted to commit some place to hold his spot.
It's like he told Aggy, "Look, I'm going to date you, but we're not doing all the fun stuff together. When a better opportunity / situation presents itself or I build a stronger relationship with someone else I'm outts here"

Amazing looking back on that team how much talent there was. Entire offensive line. Entire secondary. Hell guys who didn’t play/play a ton in rose bowl include include colt, Jamal Charles, Quan, Shipley, earl thomas, (I might be off on one of those). J Finley maybe.
But Mack’s teams had tons more talent thru 2008 than any team since. Look at the d in the 2008 OU game. Kindle, Orakpo, Lamar Houston, Henry Melton. Earl Thomas in secondary. Quan made that huge hit as Shipley almost scored. Ogbonnaya with huge run late and he wound up in the nfl for lil bit. Blaine Irby was on roster but got huge leg injury in Rice game.
Maybe this name and likeness stuff will reverse the mass exodus of Texas recruits to matriculate in the lovely climes of norman, Columbus, Tuscaloosa and Auburn.

Just wondering what the three stars had to do without of staters? Studdard and Sendlein were the leagecies and Hall was from Tenn.

true, but those classes as a whole were ranked way up there nationally.
It's always the case that there are numerous exceptions to the rankings, but by and large they tell a fairly accurate tale.

yeah, i wonder what the story is too on him. Seems to be a heard something a year ago, but I don't recall and sure don't want to put it out there if it was a big negative without substantiation.

Logic tells me those would be Ibraheem and Coffey, but sometimes my logic is faulty and I've been wrong before.
Adding to the fun and speculation of a message board, I will say that something happened a couple of weeks ago that got one of UTs current recruits excited about what he said, "on the offense" and it got Stan Drayton all stirred up. Just saying it could be something totally out of nowhere.

I respect his stance, but he should understand that he is only hurting himself. If he chooses to go this route, he will be replaced and the game will go on without him and his future will be very much in question.
He has a lot of people on the team that care about him, he is hurting them more than anything. This is just another example of the me generation thinking they are more valuable than the work they do. Without football, he is just a small voice just like the rest of us. As a star athlete, he actually has a chance to be heard. True there are a lot of people that don't want to hear his message, but he has a podium he can voice it. Not to mention he is getting a free education in the process, something most of us had no chance to get.

There are many ways to discuss this situation but I believe the best way to say this is that this is bigger than entertainment/sports. Imagine if he started a revolution for all college sports and pro? Then it wouldn't be about him losing money, (and risking his health and loading up people's pockets that don't even play but "own" the team) everybody would. From the extra rich owners in the NFL that profit from them and give a fraction of what they make, to the team doctors, coaches, etc.
Think about it, where would this country be without sports, then think about if you believe the owners of these sports teams are not nervous about the 70-90% of blacks that play sports.
What I believe he is doing is trying to push the issue. Being true to his convictions of feeling that social justice needs to be looked at. Doesn't seem like it has hit the pro level yet but if it does, there could be a quick turn-around as to what is going to happen...

I can say that is a big possibility. Interpreting anything is adding a bit of personal spin to it. I will tell you it was not my intention to take away or add to. I simply wanted to express how and what Brennan is doing is more thought out than "him being replaced", bc from his post, that doesn't seem to be an issue... again, perception, though
I dont want to argue but I do believe that people should understand that he doesn't seem to be worried about being passed over by the sport... he seems to be willing to take a stand and be one of the first to make a claim like he did. I call it ball-sy. Anybody and everybody will have their own opinion though

maybe. IMO, it's "ball-sy" if, and only if, he actually means it of which I'm dubious at best. I would have to not only know him personally (which I dont), I would also have to talk to him intimately about whether that was a "look at me" type posting. To state the obvious: if people want to believe it and take it at face value, they will; if they dont, they wont

The same thing was said back in the 80's when the NFL players union went on strike, but it was the NFL who won by just bringing in scabs. The dollar will always win. These guys might agree with him, but they have families to feed and mortgages to pay. Banks don't care if you have a social stance, they want their money.

Jim Brown walked away from a NFL Career, so it has been done before, but this is doing so with no degree and no 8 year NFL career. His heart is in the right place but it's a risk that might destroy his future.

We would probably see a pretty large increase in population growth.

I don’t know but it totally sucks. Feels to me like more of a situation where elite prospects are choosing to go to an NFL factory. Alabama is everything we’re not and the Brockermeyers probably want the best opportunity to make it to the league. They could most likely make it from Texas State if they’re that good but can’t really fault them for choosing what they feel gives them the best opportunity. It’s going to chap a lot of asses within the state but what can we really say if UT has never played in a playoff game much less won one. Texas has to show results. Cool edits and being the “number 1 city in America” isn’t going to move the needle with most of these elite prospects. Rings, crystal balls, and draft picks... we haven’t had very many of those lately. Legacies or not, they’re going to pick what they feel gets them that almighty dollar in 3-4 years. It sucks but what’re we gonna do. At this point I’m just praying we can hold on to the five star we have committed bc he’s very very good. If Sanders and Bowman and those guys start decommitting it’s going to be a pretty awful summer/season as a horns fan.

The Football Brainiacs have confirmed DE David Abiara of Mansfield Legacy will take a virtual visit with Texas this week.
They had heard he was going to flip from Notre Dame to OU the same weekend that Texas offered, but that never happened.
OU has the better relationship with Abiara at this time, but Texas is making things interesting as they can compete with Notre Dame academically and they're an in-state school.
This virtual visit is thought of as critical for his recruitment.

How can you be a Longhorn fan and send your athletic kids to bama, l$u, aggy, or oU when they could get a scholarship to UT?
If my kid was offered a scholarship to be a longhorn band member, athlete, whatever, they would be going to UT. The only exception would be like Walker Little getting a full ride to Stanford or my kid getting a free edu at Harvard.
I just don't understand how Brockermeyer is letting his kids go to Bama if that is how it winds up. How uncomfortable will he be if he goes to a UT home game, sits by the Alumni and everyone knows his kids spurned UT for Bama? These decisions are going to be the difference between being bowl bound and playoff bound.
Cosmi and Connor Williams prove our linemen can get drafted high. I realize this has been rare but if 2 three stars can make so can two 5*s.
It's even weirder that one of Brock's kids is already at UT. Maybe the kid that is there is telling daddy that Herman is a bad coach. But he's probably the third best coach we have had since Royal left in 1976. 1) Mack, 2) Akers, 3) Herman? 4) Mackovic, 5) D. McWillams 6) Strong. Amirite?

Maybe we'll do a poll at the beginning of the season for fun and to see who ends up being right.
At the end of last year, I thought failing to make the conference game in 2020 would be Herman's downfall.
Now I question whether COVID-19 bought Herman an extra year no matter what happens in 2020.

I feel pretty confident that the turnover in the assistants have given Herman a 2 year window to win the conference. If he can average 10 wins and at least one trip to the conference championship I think he will get an extra year. My guess is he is a dead man walking.
I have maintained this one stance, if he can't get it done this year then he isn't going to get it done.

I agree with you as follows. I wouldn't force my kid to go to TCU or University of Colorado if I went there. But I would make my kid go to UT if he had a full academic ride there even if I wasn't an alum.
It's almost impossible to beat UT's combo of sports, academics, lifestyle. Plus, if your parents are lifelong fans and the kid grew up as a fan?!?
USC would be similar. Same with Michigan and Stanford.

One other thing in the back of my mind is the new stadium upgrades being unveiled in 2021.
How is Del Conte going to be able to create any excitement whatsoever by retaining Herman if he can't win big with a senior Ehlinger in 2020?

One other thing in the back of my mind is the new stadium upgrades being unveiled in 2021.
I've said from the very beginning (and told CDC via twitter) that I think the glass cathedral (SEZ) will end up being a joke across the nation. The offices and player experience will obviously be better, however, that could have been done in a more reasonable manner. I dont see how this current design will help with fan experience and home field advantage. Supposedly, it wont increase the stadium size. It's not going to make the stadium noisier because the SEZ will not be enclosed and will have a lot of dead space. How does putting fans behind a glass wall help home field advantage? it doesnt. The only plus with the glass wall is that it might take some of the blue-hairs, who dont yell anyway, out of the stands and puts them behind a glass wall. There are already questions about the fans in the corners possibly not being able to see the jumbotron. This thing could easily backfire in an aggy-ish kind of way.
Stating the obvious, the only thing that likely saves any of this is 10+ win season and conference championship . Way TOO much negative recruiting out there right now.

TFLOSS, you allow postings that are not recruiting based and are inherently political but you dont want political discussions unless it is one sided.
Respectfully, you don't know what you're talking about, but I will list out some bullet points so everyone is on the same page.
- in the 10+ years his thread has been going on, I've never made a political or religious post, I haven't divulged my political leanings or even said that I'm into politics. In the short time that I've had control of this thread as a moderator, I have only allowed recruiting, general college football talk or news related to the University of Texas. Many people agree that's all that's wanted here, and it works because otherwise people would be going at each other like you just did to me for no reason at all. Even the veterans know I have to zap their posts at times to remain objective.
- one of your recent posts was deleted because it was purely political, and you even admitted before you posted that you probably shouldn't post it and you did anyway. I couldn't care less which way you lean politically, and I certainly don't care to argue about it or see you argue about it with other people.
- I haven't been online since I left work at 3 on Friday, so anything political posted I am literally just now seeing. And if you've paid attention to my postings at all, you'll know that I can't post much on Friday night and through the weekend. I have a four year old and one year old and my wife works weekends, which it makes it nearly impossible for me to be on, let alone taking the time to sit down and start deleting multiple comments when this thread goes political.
- to be fair to EVERYONE, the recent developments will be posted in a separate thread since things will inevitably go political. I will delete anything that's a no-no on here once I can regardless if you support the players, think they're being ridiculous or you're somewhere in the middle.
Any other questions/concerns, let it be known or feel free to reach out.
Hook 'Em.

Ohio State doesn’t give a…
The school recently asked players and parents to sign a coronavirus risk waiver before they came back to campus for workouts. It’s known as the “Buckeye Pledge,” according to a report from ESPN.
The “pledge” is to “help stop the spread of the COVID-19,” while also asking players to take ownership that “I may be exposed to COVID-19 and other infections.”
However, failure to comply with the pledge and all the rules and regulations that come along with it could lead to a player losing out on “athletic participation privileges,” though it would not affect their scholarship.
As you can guess, all the players signed it. As if they ever had a choice.
Workplace power dynamics can be tricky, especially since this isn’t a contract. Or is it?
“That’s why we call it a pledge,” said OSU Athletic Director Gene Smith. “We don’t look at that as a legal document. It’s a Buckeye pledge. Allow us to help you so that if we face a situation, our trainers, our strength coaches, our coaches or any athletic administrator sees a student-athlete not wearing a mask or not social distancing, we can say, ‘Hey, you made a commitment. You signed a pledge. Your parents signed a pledge. Your parents are a part of this.”

It sounds as if both will likely be moved. Sucks for both of them, but their health is more important than football and it seems these conditions might be more advanced preventing them from playing high-level football. I could be wrong because im not a Dr.
Question: Does that 86 number also include DG Floyd?

Who gives a flying fk....
Who's our next 2021 commit? How long before we land a 2022 QB? Seems like Herman usually likes to seal that deal pretty early on in the process. Floss, do you feel like the crystal balls for Ewers to OU are telling of his recruitment as of late? Lot of talk about him cooling on them bc of the likelihood they land Caleb Williams this year.

For anyone wondering, I can't outright ban anyone or take away their posting privileges. I don't have that power.

Who do you have starting over him at MLB?
Harvey88210

I don’t buy that he doesn’t feel comfortable in Austin because of the environment. The amount of support and backing that this fan base and the university administration is providing to these young men is second to none. This isn’t the first time he’s quit the team. Would rather have someone in his spot that isn’t going to fold when games aren’t going our way. Seems like a player who’s only going to play hard when we’re winning and things are going his way. Bye.
Vito Corleone
06-17-2020, 10:21 PM
No longer care. It's a damn game, he is a kid not a man, if he wants to give up on a world class education then that's on him. He isn't going to the NFL, he can go to Grambling or Southern where he can feel like he is appreciated. I'd rather watch Texas lose than see them be held hostage by kids who think they know better.
I was on board with a few of their demands, but some were ridiculous and frankly they can pound sand with them.

base 4-2 doesnt really have a MLB, IMO. Situational-ly Overshown or Owens can fill the third OLB position or bring in CB/S if nickle D

Not really a political comment, but doesn't playing for Texas give him a platform to be heard. By not playing and someone potentially taking his place doesn't take that platform away? Why would he give that up when he can maximize his voice? Just doesn't make a lot of sense.

These are wildly uncertain times for students in general.
and we have a new staff.
The motivation for even getting online a expressing plans is also very different.
Ohio State saw this coming and put players essentially on notice. They have the luxury of doing so with a 4 Star ready to take a spot.
