I certainly could be wrong but for discussion purposes I think it's a better bet that Eagles or Foster leave early or transfer more so than Ingram. And, it wouldnt surprise me if Overshown's schtick wears on everyone including himself leading to a transfer

Texas adds speedster WR Jaden Alexis to the class.

Even though Alexis Texas hasnt received the recruiting acclaim that others have, Herman has mentioned that he wanted more speed and Jaden helps out in this regard.
Does this commitment put pressure on other WRs and does it rule out others like JJ Henry?

Lets hope that Texas is done at WR recruiting. With no one leaving there will be 12 back next year. Only one less than returning OL.

soldierhorn
08-08-2020, 01:52 PM
I think they take at least one more WR. There is no way they refuse a JJ Earle if the decides to flip (and that could happen if the Horns have a great season while LSU struggles) but getting Alexis makes missing on Earle far less an issue. I think they will pursue Ketron Jackson if he is willing to commit soon. I'm also not going to rule out Quaydarius Davis (USC) flipping back if the PAC doesnt have a season.

You are proabily right on taking another WR. Seems like new coaches want thier recruits
At least they are going after speed. OU been killing teams for years with speed.
However all the great WRS will not help if QB is on his back due to lack of blocking.
Maybe more speed at QB will help in this as Card,Jackson and Milroe are faster and more agile than Sam.

rumor starting to gain traction that big10 will cancel season in 72 hours & big12 will add nebraska ohio st penn st & michigan for a season........
bruh big12 dont fook this up

yeah, It would be fun but it's likely too late in the season for something like this. I wold LOVE for Texas to crush Cornnut hearts again. hahaha or relegate nebbie to playing ISU, KSU, KU and oSu LOL

There was a LOT of positive talk about Lengyel to Texas for the past week or two but today he chose Baylor. Something happened rather suddenly that changed the momentum.
Nonetheless, I think this is a good thing for both schools and the player. It does seem odd that Baylor is putting together a better OL class than Texas at this point

Not too suprising Tom got in late two weeks ago have to show interest early. Brocks cost Horns more than just losing them.Highland Park still has a uncommited OL. By some rated higher than Lengyel. Cadeis still around but rest are commited or leaning else where.

Here's how bad it has gotten with Herb Hand recruiting: Hand just started following another BAYLOR OL commit, Tate Williams. Let me say that again, he just FOLLOWED a 3* Baylor commit.

The state of Texas was stacked with top OL talent this year and Texas was expected to get their share of talent in the 2021 class. But Hand is showing that he desperately needs recruiting help right now and that's a hurdle Herman cant afford to jump every year.

Before the visit, apparently his decision was down to Texas and Minnesota. I think the consensus now after his visit Wednesday is that Texas leads and he should commit soon.
A huge positive here, IMO, is that I think PJ Fleck is a good evaluator of talent as is Herman and his staff and both programs want Fields, which is a good sign. I think a big assist is due Chris Adimora who was Fields sponsor on the visit and both were already friends from the left coast. However, he needs to commit soon so that he can make it back to Austin for the fall camp if he expects to compete for the two-deep LB positions

the Brocks were suppose to be in the nest by the end of last year or at least by the spring to go along with Hyden. Foster really liked Texas (mother is an aggy) and Byrd was leaning Texas so the expectation was that either would commit before the season started. wow... how things have changed... At this point, Hand is being out-recruited by former Longhorn OL coach, Joe Wickline, who is at Baylor. what a kick in the nuts

Eastexhorn
08-09-2020, 02:31 PM
What else is there to say OL recruiting can get no worse. I belive Hand can coach but if you can not get them how do you expect to coach them up.
Some thing is wrongwhat I have no idea.Lack of detail to OL recruiting? Does Hand need help? RB coach has been getting help so maybe Jay can help Hand. It all falls on Tom maybe he should step up.
Meanwhile they will go for another WR and LB.

I'd be really surprised at this stage if Eagles left. I think there was some chatter awhile back about a possibility of that, but things have gone well for him since. He's considered possibly the top wideout (especially outside spots) that we have and is expected to be a real star.
'Course, we may not have a season--at least for awhile--so we'll see

It has a bunch to do with the depth chart. Texas isn't the easiest school to get into as a grad transfer either. I think it came down to one or the other.

I can see that. I also just read that the WVU co-DC was his recruiter at ASU and WVU is now running the same defense he has been a part of. So, I guess it does make sense. I just always heard Minn or Texas, Minn or Texas, Minn or Texas.

The link here is WV coach Jahmile Addae. Addae is a former WV safety (recruit class of 2001 I think). Before coaching at WV he was the DB coach at Minnesota for one year (which probably gave the "in" for the Minny attraction), then before that he was the DB coach at Arizona for 5 yrs.

“I have Coach Jahmile Addae there," Fields said earlier this month about WVU. "He recruited me to Arizona. He’s co-defensive coordinator. The defense is almost exactly the same as it was as of UofA also. So, I’ve got an upper hand over there. I already know what’s going on with the defense.”

Once you see it, the dots are not hard to connect... so why are we surprised? Most were saying that Texas, then Minny, then WV were leading for Fields.

What I’m wondering is if Johnson is the recruit mentioned in TFB’s update. Wiltfong said he still expects Johnson to commit after the season so it doesn’t fit the TFB timeline bc they mentioned it’d go down quickly. Johnson is also not really an unexpected pick up bc he’s been considered leaning more towards UT lately. I’m hoping it’s D Jackson like trumpet mentioned above.

Per Mike Roach:

Tunmise Adeleye made his decision to decommit from Ohio State today following the announcement that the Big 10 and PAC 12 would postpone fall sports. I don’t expect anything to happen there with Texas as Florida and Texas A&M seem to be the schools talked about most. I also talked with sources near Bellaire Episcopal five-star offensive tackle DonovanJackson. When I broached the subject of Jackson looking around, I was shut down pretty quickly and told that he was all in with the Buckeyes. Don’t expect anything on that front.

So Donovan Jackson isn’t the recruit TFB was referring to.

I have definitely been wondering if it's an OU commitment (i.e. Smith) since TFB gets a lot of their info from that side.

DE Marqez Bimage has opted out of the season, per OrangeBloods.
Bimage hasnt redshirted yet so he could redshirt anyway if he wanted. What's the advantage of opting out? Apparently, opting out due to covid give you another year of eligibility but does that help him or hurt him? If he redshirted, he could participate in practices and play in at least 4 games (maybe more this season); whereas, the way I understand it, if you opt out you have to separate yourself from the team and cant participate in team activities. Is he infected or what?

If the ncaa doesnt allow for expanded scholly limits or exemptions, then this isnt a positive. I havent read up on any of this but if I were to take a guess and say that the covid opt out would get a type of temp medical exemption for the program. but, again, I have no idea really

i'M feeling fairly confident about Mukuba committing to the Horns. The previous recruiting dead period ended Sept 1 so he chose Sept 7 to get a visit in (clem?). Now the dead period has been extended to Sept 30 so in-person visits with staffs will be hard. OTOH, he knows Ash & Texas very well and plays summer ball with current commits Ibraheem & Coffey. It can happen but I would be surprised if he commits to Clemson without visiting their staff

I'm not going to worry about missing on the Brocks, they are offensive linemen. We have had a number of fantastic offensive linemen that were developed as 3'star players. The most recent are Connor Williams and now Sam Cosmi. I'm sure the brocks will be fantastic players for bama, but the game of football is a team sport and we have some damn good players on offense and now we have a QB room that is the most talent I've ever seen at Texas. I think 2003 we had Simms, Chance Mock and Vince, I think our QB room right now is even more talented now.

It's a lot easier to overcome not having an all world OT than it is not having a great QB, but when you have an all world QB, the world is yours.

My point is, you need these types of players to ultimately compete at the highest level and win championships regularly.

You're right it is an embarrassment, but it happened, we lost them, time to move on and think more about who we got and who we can still get. Every year we miss out on several top 5'star players, Tommy B is just another one of them, James is good, but losing out on him isn't a big deal. We got a center I really like. Lets face it Tommy was the prize and we lost, time to just move on. We now have our guy we can rally around and recruits can flock to, he just happens to be in the 2022 class.

absolutely.
That said, it's been huge that Herman has managed to redshirt more and more of the guys he's signed, rather than plugging them in out of necessity as true freshmen and forever curtailing their development.

that alone will help a whole lot to make our offensive line much more effective. I expect, too, that landing Ewers should help with at least one or two OL guys. Some of that, granted, might not come with this class, but I'm hoping for a late-bloomer who turns the heads this fall that we'll land and/or a top grad transfer, etc.

If so same old problem. Team has been able to redshirtmost of OL last two cllasses just not enough numbers of bodies IMO.

Texas has had a couple of big losses on the oline this year, none bigger than the Brocks, but there are still a couple of big named guys out there, Savion Byrd and Bryce Foster, if we get one or both we will never remember the Brocks again. Now that the Pac and Big aren't playing if we have our season we stand a great chance of turning a few heads from those regions still. The kid that was high school teammate of Bijan is a good start.

This guys was the number 2 ranked player in the country in 2019. He was wrecking shop as a freshman. If he ended up in Austin, that would send shockwaves through the program. I'll believe it when I see it.

Both sound like good pickups at positions of need. Any OL would help.

Still wondering where the ships came from, last I saw Texas was at 85.

The kid that was high school teammate of Bijan is a good start.
from many indications, we probably don't land either of the two guys (Byrd and Foster). They're leaning OU from what I have been reading the last weeks on Inside Texas. Obviously hope that doesn't turn out

24/7 wrote this morning that while the commitment of 2022 QB Quinn Ewers received overwhelming positive reviews from offensive recruits, it also created a lot of buzz with defensive guys.

They are hearing Texas could add a commitment or two from defensive recruits this month, but they didn't specify which class.

He's scrubbing his social media and people are connecting the dots.

He didn't publicly congratulate Ewers on Friday, which kind of had people wondering.

Inside Texas isn't disagreeing when people talk about a de-commitment.

So Milroe is going to cut and run because there’s another recruit a year behind him that might b better?

Mr. Milroe you might want to ask Major Applewhite and Colt McCoy how they handled a younger more highly regarded qb committing. The answer is they stayed the course and outplayed Simms (5*) and Snead (high 4*). Cuz they have cajones and can fn play football.

Milroe might also ring up Ryan Perriloux and ask him how decomitting worked out for him.

Just because a sure fire qb savior commits doesn’t mean squat. John Chiles meet Shea Morenz meet Donnie Little meet Garrett Gilbert meet Roshon Johnson.

I would be bugging the hell out of him right now saying to stay the course, too much can happen.
He does not seem like a kid that would get frightened by competition unless he was certain he would not get a fair shake.
But if it really is just "this guy behind me is too good" then... maybe we dont need him.

* Dammit.
Need to read further.

Meh oh well. He was so Texas even very recently. I think this has every bit it do with Ewers. If that’s the case farewell Milroe. He saw more hype surrounding another QB going to his same school and ran the other way...won’t miss him. We’ll take the bumps and bruises and keep moving. I think he saw that QB room looking stout and thought better of it.

Camar Wheaton is more likely to sign if LJ is out. I think this is why there was the whole push by Carrington and Brandon Harris in recruiting Wheaton harder last week (the call with Leonard Fournette that Harris set up as well as the tweets sent by Carrington that were seemingly aimed at Wheaton). Seems they felt the negative consequences of Milroe decommitting and tried to get out ahead of it before the OU summit thingy next weekend. Lots of people over on OU’s side don’t feel great about Wheaton even showing up. At least that’s the portrait I’ve painted in my head. Lol.

At this point, We have 4 QBs in our lockerroom and next year we will have 3, I feel okay still now that we have Ewers, as long as we keep him. Now my big concern is keeping the other guys we have in the fold.

Not sure why he picked Bama? He is going to a team with the #1 QB in the nation last year will be the starter for 3 or 4 years, His chances are no better there than they are at Texas, probably worse there since they will keep recruiting talent behind him.

I don't know how good a QB he will be on the next level, but I thought he had a legit shot at being great. This recruiting cycle has really gone bad. I don't want to hear RJ Young now, he was basically recruiting him to Bama on his show.

Sucks to lose Milroe, he's going to be a good one. I've had the feeling hes been gone for awhile now and finally he had a reason to check out. Yurcich offering other QB's when he came in was probably not a smart move and left a bad taste in Milroe's mouth he couldn't get out. Texas will be fine.... Card has been turning heads and JQJ looks to be healed up, plus Ewers......
