It sounds more like Avery doesn’t know what he’s talking about. Sochan is the best overall defender on this draft and Spurs top 4 in big board if you ask me, next only to Banchero, Chet and Smith.

The only one we out and out jettisoned was Sammich, and he got last season’s salary as severance. The Spurs DID offer Lonnie an extension last year, but he chose not to take it. When he got an offer, we rescinded his QO to let him sign it.

If you work hard, and are a team guy, you’ll get a soft landing. The spurs have a history of it.

pretty sure it's because Rodman very obviously sabotaged/quit on SA in 95, so everyone understands why. it was also like 30 years ago and before the Spurs ever won titles which is probably the other reason no one cares to bring it up

I think you'll be surprised at how much that ISN'T the case. He'll never be a scorer, but he CAN score, and he's a pretty good playmaker. Dont get me wrong I''m perfectly comfortable with his skill set. From the beginning I questioned the claims of his "athleticism" but after looking at a few more of his videos I see a reasonable base set of offensive work. He's competent. I still don't think he's a great athlete but I like his game. He has the potential be an elite glue guy and possibly a 3rd or 4th option.

I've never seen anyone like Duncan when it comes to not just individual and help defense, but being the floor general on that end of the floor, especially with his longevity. I've heard plenty of people say he was the best in this regard since Bill Russell, and perhaps the best ever given Duncan's elevated level of competition.

I didn't watch a whole lot of non-Spurs games, though, and I certainly didn't watch any of Russell's games at the time, so I can't claim a very strong opinion here. But that ridiculous and long-lived effectiveness on defense, while being very good on offense for a good chunk of his career is what puts Duncan way up my list on all-time greats.

That and the fact I'm a huge Spurs homer.

Naw, Westbrook would never play for a tanking team like us in what is the last few good years he has (good relative to skill, not salary). And we'd have to give up picks to have someone take him because no one with cap space would want him on the team and no one that is contending would want to give up the pieces needed to match salaries.

What other cap space rental deals have happened since the end of the moratorium? I haven’t heard of any. I know that Phoenix wants to get off of $10-15M to avoid the tax. There will also be teams who don’t look like they’ll make the playoffs at the trade deadline who won’t want to pay the tax. Yeah I said this before about Sochan (may have been before the draft) he has a bit of a heave in his jump shot where its a whole body movement. Kawhi had something similar in college you can see it if you look at his jump shot in some of his college videos.

First over reaction below. Seriously, though I think we see Sochan getting minutes pretty quickly with the big boy club. He should be able to effect the game in many ways even if the his struggles. High IQ, hustle and an NBA ready body. I really like this pic and am pretty excited to see he, Keldon and maybe even Tre Jones winning us a few games out of pure hustle alone.
