New evidence on Neanderthal mixing

New research on a 45,000-year-old Siberian thighbone has narrowed the window of time when humans and Neanderthals interbred to between 50,000 and 60,000 years ago, and has shown that modern humans reached northern Eurasia substantially earlier than some scientists thought.

Carbon dating and molecular analysis filled in many of the blanks about the sample. Testing determined that the sample was from an individual who lived 45,000 years ago on a diet that included plants or plant eaters and fish or other aquatic life.

Reich and Fu said the sample was remarkable because of the extraordinary preservation of its DNA, which allowed Fu, using the latest techniques for ancient DNA analysis, to extract a high-quality genome sequence. The sequence, Reich said, is significantly higher in quality than most genome sequences of present-day people generated for analysis of disease risk.

Reich said the findings on mutation rate (http://phys.org/tags/mutation+rate/) have sweeping implications, and provide a basis for reinterpreting key dates in human prehistory. Instead of humans and Neanderthals becoming distinct offshoots sometime between 270,000 and 380,000 years ago, for example, the slower rate would put that shift much further back in time, between 550,000 and 770,000 years ago. Similarly, the slower rate pushes back estimates for the date of the separation of African and non-African populations.

"The slow mutation rates indicate that the present-day subdivisions among human populations date back to almost 200,000 years ago, well before the period around 50,000 years ago when the archaeological record documents art and new styles of toolmaking," Reich said.

"The implication is that the spread of modern human behavior must have been cultural, at least in part. Based on the genetic dates, it cannot be the case of a single population that developed modern human behavior spread all around the world replacing the other humans who already lived there."

Because the evidence so strongly supports evolution, the people who want to push the kinds of supernatural explanations that such holy books talk about, MUST lie about it, and distort what it says.[emphasis post-edit mine-RG]

If they were honest about it, and understood it, they and their worldview would stand no chance, which is why they are so actively dishonest.

... Avante has been lied TO. He and Rob have been actively given false information, and really bad arguments. Once you realize that it isn't entirely his fault, it is easier to be patient about such things. He is simply shackled by his own ignorance, and that is easily changed.

The shackles of course, are invisible, but I am simply trying to point out that they exist, and that he is holding the key.

All he has to do is learn a little. The evidence, the REAL evidence, speaks for itself.

So all those who believe some God created all this are 100% wrong and you know what really happened.....right?

Google......Evolution is a farce......or ...fake...or bogus...and you will find tons and tons of this sort of thing....why?

http://scienceagainstevolution.info/v13i8f.htm

Thank you.

The link is a case in point, and exactly the kind of thing I was talking about. My brief run through of the electrical engineer critiquing the biological sciences counted 12 factual mistakes, and two logical fallacies before I stopped trying to identify them all.

Coyne so easily goes from “guess” to “know.” Even if the fossil record showed that a particular reptile died before a particular bird, it doesn’t prove that the bird is a biological descendant of the reptile. It is an indisputable fact that Big Brown (the horse that won the 2008 Kentucky Derby) died in 2008, and President George Washington died in 1799. Does that prove that Big Brown was a biological descendant of George Washington? Of course not!

This is what is known as a strawman logical fallacy. Coyne would say nothing of the sort.

To answer your question:

Evolution is a farce......or ...fake...or bogus...and you will find tons and tons of this sort of thing....why?

Because it gives gullible, lazy people quick links to post on message boards to make it seem like evolution is flawed. The only thing it really does though, is shows how completely ignorant creationists actually are about the evidence and theories.

here's a more recent one with some interesting tidbits

Religiousness relates most strongly to these views, which is not surprising, given that this question deals directly with God's role in human origins. The percentage of Americans who accept the creationist viewpoint ranges from 69% among those who attend religious services weekly to 23% among those who seldom or never attend.

Educational attainment is also related to these attitudes, with belief in the creationist perspective dropping from 57% among Americans with no more than a high school education to less than half that (27%) among those with a college degree. Those with college degrees are, accordingly, much more likely to choose one of the two evolutionary explanations.
Younger Americans -- who are typically less religious than their elders -- are less likely to choose the creationist perspective than are older Americans. Americans aged 65 and older -- the most religious of any age group -- are most likely to choose the creationist perspective.

Sixty-four percent of those who are very familiar with the theory of evolution choose one of the two evolutionary explanations for the origin of humans, compared with 28% among the smaller group of Americans who report being not too or not at all familiar with it. The majority of those not familiar with evolution choose the creationist viewpoint

http://content.gallup.com/origin/gallupinc/GallupSpaces/Production/Cms/POLL/mh7klzb21ue_tb0a1h_86q.png

so plenty of people have a belief in a god AND evolution. overall, 58% of Americans believe there is evolution, regardless of god. 42% believe in full blown creation. and in general, people like yourself who dont have an understanding of evolution tend to be creationist, while those who actually are read up on the theory of evolution tend to support it. no surprises there

If it's certain that we evolved, and it's certain that animal life originated in the sea, you can do the math

Yes, I understand where you're coming from, but "certitude" is central to any discussion or debate on these theories IMHO.

We can make predictions based on evidence, but in the final analysis they are still predictions, and many predictions have been proven to be wrong over time or through and with later evidence.

I, for one, have never felt that we understood God, much less the God of the Bible.
My contention all along has been that God is not understandable using our limited human capacity.
We might catch tiny glimpses of understanding, but nothing in the totality.
It would maybe be similar to an ant attempting to understand humans IMHO.

Yes....you can. Well I do at least. Go look at a remote island in the middle of the ocean....they have animals there that are unlike any others found on the mainland. It's because they have evolved differently there.

I also believe that God created Man. Guess I'm living proof that you can believe in both.....

I think what has happened is we simply can't grasp the concept that we have finally encountered something we can't explain so we invent ways to not let that happen.

its a likelihood, not a definitive. correlation, not causation.

people who have a misunderstanding of evolution are quite likely to reject it. they expect there to either be a bigfoot type creature, or that an ape on day gave birth to a modern human, or something ridiculous of the sort, and so naturally they reject it.

those who study the theory enough to where they get a firm understanding tend to see how it lines up with the facts

Even though I happen to think this is a valid question, debaters would reject it due to it being a negative premise if I am not mistaken.

And thus the burden of proof rests upon the one making the conclusion, in this case "that God exists".

However some would argue that the burden of proof rests upon the FIRST one making ANY claim, either positive or negative.

burden of proof lies upon those making the claim. otherwise people can ask ridiculous questions like the one i died about polkadot covered unicorns.

but that doesn't mean there aren't two sides to the coin.

first of all, regardless of the burden of proof being on the theist's side and proof not existing, that's not to say their conclusion is wrong... its just without merit.

No matter how much you research the evolution of man side...I still don't believe it. You could spend the next 50 years of your life trying to persuade me otherwise...it still isn't going to be enough.

And the 1/2 man 1/2 ape comment was prob a little much...I'll give you that. I'm not saying that because "Bigfoot" hasn't been found...that is why I believe God created Man. You know what I mean. If it takes millions of years for Man to evolve...there should be countless variations of man buried in the Earth. I mean with the same species of fish....countless differents types have been found. Same with sharks, alligators, etc. (Basically any pre-historic animal) For all the digging man has done for thousands of years....we still haven't found anything remotely close to a man/ape hybrid. How come??? Maybe man didn't evolve from a fish to an ape to modern man. It's a pretty good arguement imo.....call me uneducated or I haven't done enough research if you want. People of mine and your ilk are pretty set in stone on this arguement....

Yes, I have read his debates.

Maybe things have changed since then, but I doubt they changed that much.

If i spent the next 50 years trying to argue my creationism ideals....would you change your mind? Prob not. I of course, will never have any proof of the existance of God.

It's the same thing....just because I say that I won't change my mind doesn't make me archaic or backwards. It's who I am...It's what I believe. Some genius could spend his whole life and write a mathematical formula, prob a very simple 1st or 2nd order linear differential equation (because the simplest equations are normally the most accurate ones) on a chalk/whiteboard that he believes proves the existance of a big bang theory. 5 minutes later some other genius will come back and say he doesn't believe it to be true. it fails at both the molecular level as well, but also for massive objects. when they applied newton's law of gravity to measure Mercury's orbit around the sun, it kept getting incorrect results... so much so that scientists (trying to make newton's laws work) postulated that there was a planet in our solar system we hadn't discovered yet, in between mercury and the sun, who's gravitational pull was changing mercury's orbit. einstein's improvements on newtons laws through the theory of relativity was able to account for mercury's orbit without needing to "invent" a new planet. when something was too close to an object too massive (as mercury was to the sun), newton's laws fail

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vulcan_(hypothetical_planet)

spurraider21
10-26-2014, 02:47 AM
newton's laws actually are the reason we discovered neptune as soon as we did, with the same reasoning. before we discovered neptune, scientists using newton's laws realized that uranus had an odd orbit, and they guessed there was another nearby source of gravity that was affecting it. with some ridiculously complicated reverse calculations, they were able to "track" this proposed source of gravity and knew exactly where/when to look with powerful telescopes... and vuala... they spotted neptune, a new planet

but going back to the first example, we saw his laws fail when dealing with a planet too close to the sun

The physics between super large and super small masses is what leads to shitty math. Because, a super large object obeys Newton's laws, but a super small object obeys quantum mechanics. The math gets ugly when super large objects collapse upon themselves to form super small objects; ie, black holes.

what is the difference between alternative design and intelligent design?

Intelligent Design supports the theory of a designer.

Alternative Design supports the facts that complicated DNA codes and mathematical patterns found in the universe are not random.

Any theory that that doesn't support Creation or Evolution is an Alternative.

It gives intelligent humans a different way to think outside the box and not have only believe is a bearded man in the sky or two dogs having sex to explain their existence.

Because a designer often is called a creator and that leads to people calling you a creationist.

And was the result on it being removed from the classroom.

A semi intelligent human that lives on an island and knows nothing about Darwin or the bible knows enough to see designs all around him.

Why should that person have to buy into the bullshit others believe in?

ok so regardless of the creator/designer label, alternative design does call for a designer.

i still fail to see how that's different than intelligent design

Besides Evolutionist don't claim a designer but admit the complexity of DNA the solar system. They just try not to talk about.

Just like the golden ratio PHI RATIO 1.618

Because it gives gullible, lazy people quick links to post on message boards to make it seem like evolution is flawed. The only thing it really does though, is shows how completely ignorant creationists actually are about the evidence and theories.

Pope Francis isn't a regular Pope. He's a cool Pope.

Case in point: the hero Catholicism needs questioned the veracity of creationism this week by publicly endorsing the legitimacy of science-based ideologies such as evolution and the Big Bang theory.

"When we read about Creation in Genesis, we run the risk of imagining God was a magician, with a magic wand able to do everything. But that is not so,” Francis said during an address delivered to the Pontifical Academy of Sciences. “He created human beings and let them develop according to the internal laws that he gave to each one so they would reach their fulfilment.”

He further argued that the veracity of those theories did nothing to dispel Christian beliefs on the genesis of the universe, saying that both could exist harmoniously.

“The Big Bang, which today we hold to be the origin of the world, does not contradict the intervention of the divine creator but, rather, requires it,” he continued. "Evolution in nature is not inconsistent with the notion of creation, because evolution requires the creation of beings that evolve.”

When does it ever hit that I'm probably better read than you are? Stop with this ridiculous....in case ya don't know....bullshit ok shorty? My point was it doesn't matter who you have a beef with (OBVIOUSLY) you can't have one without the other unless you want to fantazise.........let me guess, too complex for ya right simpleton?

Run all your bullshit by these guys, ok?

Little man, people are made of flesh and blood not nuts and bolts, ok slugger? They have emotions. They don't want....BANG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!....when they can have a loving God and His love. I respect that while having a little different opnion but it's closer to that than.....BANG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Little girl....so will grandpa be at peace now?
Grandma...yes my dear, he is with God now and happy.

through our many long conversatoins there is nothing that would lead me to believe that. maybe you're better read when it comes to track and ancient football, and you know a ton more music than i do. trivia type stuff, you got me there

Stop with this ridiculous....in case ya don't know....bullshit ok shorty? My point was it doesn't matter who you have a beef with (OBVIOUSLY) you can't have one without the other unless you want to fantazise.........let me guess, too complex for ya right simpleton?
you can absolutely have one without the other. religion refers to the very specific stories in the holy books, the bible, the quran, the torah, etc. Theism is simply believing that there is a god type being who started the universe. Chinook has made it clear he is a theist but isn't religious

its a far cry from "figure that initiated the universe" to "being that created the universe, created the earth in 7 days, made man in his image, passed down 10 commandments, sent his son to earth, has heaven and hell, loves everybody." its quite a leap between these two steps.

but good to see the truth comes out. you used to say you believed in God but thought the bible was full of crap. but now you are saying you cant have god without religion. therefore you are calling yourself a christian (based on references to churches, gospel, "God's Not Dead").

I'm no Christian but live with one and grew up around them. The first thing ya notice is how far happier they are than non believers, it's obvious. I have no doubts 'something" far deeper than....BANG!...is responsible for all this, but unlike Christians I don't know what it was, while they do (they believe they do so they do).

But.....you do know nobody has ever .....ok man if you say so, I've changed my mind...on the internet, right? If you think you're better off without any hope or faith in anything other than....BANG!!!!!!!!!!.....cool~~~~~~

The theories of evolution and the Big Bang are real and God is not “a magician with a magic wand”, Pope Francis has declared.

Speaking at the Pontifical Academy of Sciences, the Pope made comments which experts said put an end to the “pseudo theories” of creationism and intelligent design that some argue were encouraged by his predecessor, Benedict XVI.

Francis explained that both scientific theories were not incompatible with the existence of a creator – arguing instead that they “require it”.

“When we read about Creation in Genesis, we run the risk of imagining God was a magician, with a magic wand able to do everything. But that is not so,” Francis said.

He added: “He created human beings and let them develop according to the internal laws that he gave to each one so they would reach their fulfillment."

I don't understand why the media is going apeshit over Pope Francis believing in evolution, tbh.

Evolution has been accepted as scientific fact since 1870, about a decade after Charles Darwin published The Origin of Species. Anyone with half a brain acknowledges that evolution is true. The fact that so many people are so surprised that Pope Francis does so too shows how low they've set the bar for him.

low-brow, low-wage, low-info Bible-humpers set the bar low, not "people" in general.

The Pope is still an influential figure, going back a 1000 years. There is only one CC, not 1000s of fractured, often bizarro, sects of huckstering Protestantism.

His stand on evolution isn't revolutionary. The CC has for a long time accepted "mitigated" biological/human evolution where God steps in to infuse the soul ( :lol ). That's clearly way ahead of the Bible-humping creationists.

However, at the recent bishops' hangout, he proposed to his hater bishops, mimicking the man-made hate of the Christian Taliban, to think about gays and divorced people more charitably. THAT IS, yet again for him, revolutionary. I hope Fran can stick around for long time.

Being it takes so many different factors to pull this off I think it's foolish to not see how it took a designer. To think it all came about by chance......how could it?

I'm no Christian, I just see their belief in that designer as being a good idea, just not that designer and all the siliness we see in the Bible. Obviously just some author similar to Homer pulling the biggest hoax of all time, not unlike the Koran.

are you a christ believer?

Dude Jesus is in the Bible ....you want to go against a book written over two thousand years ago?

be my guest... so what are you saying if someone two thousand years from now wanted to know if anyone believed there was a singer named Steve Perry
they should feel stupid?

Pardon me if they didn't have YouTube back in the the days of Jesus. :lmao

It's just a wheel in the sky!

I have debated this topic for over 10 years and have debated this topic with MIT students professors and countless others from other colleges and have yet to lose why would I here at ST? The Debate ended years ago with the discovery of DNA it's not my fault your Anti Christ believers here at SpursTalk who at the gtg are wearing black robes as they place you on the Alter of stupidity that Evoulution is based on...use your own judgement look at the facts do the research..

you're such an arrogant pick tbh...

10 years of winning debates against MIT guys... :lol

you have also the award of creating ST trolling and the award of people photoshopp in bikini... you have it all

according to who?
its foolish to try to answer "what is the reason for why we are here" because as it stands now there is no way to accurately answer that question. at this point i would just assume there is no great purpose

why ask me? ask a cat.
um, you are the one who brought up the mental state of a cat. you claimed cats want to believe they are here for a purpose in post #2485

link?
that's not really an issue that is settled by a link :lol... i said theism/atheism is different than evolution. that's inherent.

i am atheist and accept evolution. you are atheist but don't accept evolution.
chinook is a theist and accepts evolution. robdiaz is a theist and doesn't accept evolution.

the issues are completely separate

So who of the two is smarter?
i would argue myself, but i'm biased. in reality, its not a matter of being smarter or not. its a question of understanding the evidence at hand and coming to a conclusion. most people who are educated on how biology works are able to understand why evolution makes sense. that doesn't necessarily make it right and factual, but at this point it is widely accepted by educated people

That is what bothers me you seem to be worth my time in hopes your light bulb turns on..
i feel the same way :lol

Why does anyone care what others think about religion/evolution? Especially knowing they can't prove their stance on the matter. It all comes down to what ???? you want to attach yourself to.

So many try to sell their beliefs when it comes to this, beliefs with no "facts" backing it.

It's because people like spurraider21 are deep down afraid they may be wrong supporting Darwin so they try and belittle anyone else who doesn't support Darwin to help themselves feel better about the wrong choice they made.

It's like that one kid in elementary school cafeteria that is eating a peanut butter sandwich and is watching you eat a Spam sandwich he's very curious about the taste of Spam , or maybe he's secretly jealous his parents can't afford Spam so not to feel inferior he begins to taunt you bay making comments like.

"you really know what meat they use in Spam?"

"hey did you hear eating Spam makes you Gay?"

"why can't you eat peanut butter like the rest of us you think your special?"

"do you even know where Spam came from"

" I bet your gonna say some bearded man in sky made the Spam"

"And it only took 6 days to make"

you see the early pattern forming with the BiEvolutionist?

The truth is if Darwin knew about Spam back then he would be thinking of ways to eat one without anyone seeing him.
