Update on 2017 RB JK Dobbins of La Grange after visiting Texas last week (OrangeBloods):

"It crossed my mind (to commit)," Dobbins said. "Texas, I love Texas. I just want to take everything slowly. It's kind of like a life or death situation. It's so important. I'm going to have to spend four years there, it can alter my future, so I just want to make sure wherever I go is the right place. I'm going to go slow."

"We got to walk around, see stuff. He showed me what it's like to be there. I talked to coach (Charlie) Strong longer. It was great. I liked it."

"(Strong) was telling me about his cores. He told me he really wants me to be at UT. I believe him."

"I'm not going to take it too long (to commit). But I don't know when I'll do it. My heart has to be set on that school."

With all the arrest and negative news around the LSU football program, I'm thinking that that could have possibly played a part in Moses' decision to decommit. Maybe his father thinks it'll be better for him to leave home and get away from the temptations and involvements associated with staying close to home.

Unlike many recruits, Hudson does not enjoy the attention that comes with being a top prospect.

Also, update on the Vegas line for the Notre Dame game:

We're 10 (!!!) point underdogs.

The line has moved since it opened from 9 which means people like Notre Dame.

I might be a big homer here, but I feel like the game is going to be really slow since both teams are somewhat inept in certain ways. I feel like we're underdogs but not 10 points. That's a lot. -5 or even -6.5 seems more appropriate. -10 is a really hefty number for teams that don't like to score touchdowns.

DE Isaiah Chambers of Aldine MacArthur talks about where things stand with UT (OrangeBloods):

"I'm going to try to work on the record. Last year I got 21 sacks. I'm trying to get 29 or more and take my team to the playoffs," Chambers said.

"When the season comes, probably in the next three or four weeks, I'll have a top five," Chambers said. "Right now it's kind of hard to say."

"I've talked to them (Texas) frequently. I haven't been yup there this summer, but I plan to go back and watch a few games," Chambers said. "I talk to coach (Chris) Vaughn, coach (Brick) Haley, and I talk to coach Strong probably once a week or once every two weeks."

"The program, the prestige," Chambers said.

"I plan to take all of them (official visits) and then possibly commit right after the season, maybe even mid-season," Chambers said. "I don't plan to take it too far."

Quiet, unassuming and doesn't like recruiting attention, which is why there is rarely news on him anywhere.

Sumlin created a bad reputation because of Hudson. Hudson decommitted from A&M because it was rumored that Sumlin pressured him into committing super early. Even though he committed, it rubbed Hudson and many people the wrong way. Few days or weeks later, he committed to Baylor.

It's interesting that last year, no freshmen got single digit numbers. So far I've seen DeShon Elliott and John Burt (#1) from this years class. IIRC Strong said something about "earning it" and that was the reason why Daje Johnson got #23 instead of #4.

I wanted to pass this note along just because I thought it was funny...a lot of the sites reported P Michael Dickson's first couple of kicks in practice yesterday were complete shanks, but his leg is so strong that one of the shanks went over the practice field fence and landed on Red River. He'll obviously have to adjust to the newness of a defense rushing at him.

IMO, this is a good thing. The numbers are going to be tight, especially at the RB position this year. I think the Longhorns are all in on Whaley for 16 and Dobbins for 17. I say don't even let him take an official to Texas in the fall. Just end it right here and be done with it.

On another note, does anyone have any updates or nuggets of information on Hudson and Cuffee? Also, any news, rumors on Jordan Elliott? Thanks.

That's not my info, but I'll try and post anything that's interesting.

Unfortunately, these practice situations aren't necessarily an indication of things to come.

We'll see what happens in the first scrimmage.

Based off of this tweet Grayland Arnold won't be entertaining Texas' recruiting efforts any longer, or anyone else for that matter. I like this kid but It's been said before that Briles likes for recruits to commit early and then preach loyalty as a way to make recruits feel bad about decommiting.

I can't read that, but that's surprising to say the least.
Yep...especially with how vocal he was during recruiting.

He was criticized by the coaches recently. I'm guessing between that and the level of competition that he's having to face he's struggling mentally to accept that he has shortcomings/there are guys that can actually beat him out for a job. Thankfully Texas has ILB pretty shored up.

It's crazy to think about it this way, but this is the natural selection of the depth chart happening at warp speed.

It usually takes two to three years to figure out how a guy is going to fit within the program.

If he's a bad fit, I'd rather we find out ASAP than have him hang around the program like several guys during Mack's tenure.

It's going to be a funny year with so much youth. A lot of talent, hopefully, but looking almost every position it's basically freshman/sophmore or bust with only a few exceptions. It's going to look really silly when our O-Line has the most experience...

If Johnny Gray goes down with injury, the RBs don't have much proven depth. Foreman seems solid but behind him there's literally nobody with experience. Catalan, while perhaps not as talented as Warren (at least according to recruiting??), at least had a year in college pads. Kind of.

Little worried about the D-Line but not too much -- I trust the Defensive staff a lot. Secondary and LBs seem primed to be the best in the Big 12 perhaps as early as next year.

This year is going to be rough but fun. Let's get it started already!

If this is coming from that interview (posted above) it's a little out of context. It's unclear just how many reps that is. It could just be a few or it could be a lot. From everything we've seen so far, according to reports, there's nothing indicating he's playing above Swoopes on the depth chart. It's a little sensationalistic for Heard at this point -- although that could _easily_ change this next week or two when the team scrimmages for real.

The greatest QB of all time (statistically) always gets forgotten.

My dad goes over all the heroics. The guy made some huge plays at critical moments. They had Applewhite in the video so I figured Street belonged as neither were pro material and add to that Street was the leader of some really good teams.

It probably has to do with Christian Wallace visiting. I don't think Strong would take his commitment at this time but ya never know.

He left Sealy after his sophomore year (supposedly kicked out) and TCU dropped him not too long after he committed.

Lots of rumors about multiple off-the-field issues and academic problems.

For as good of an athlete as he is, his offer list doesn't reflect that. Usually a sign something is wrong.

It's my belief he's not being recruited hard at all and UT has told him they're waiting to see if he straightens up.

I don't see him as a part of this class right now, but we'll see what happens.

Makes sense I just always recall his name coming up as someone who performed well at camps. It's unfortunate he can't stay on track.

“I have no idea (when I want to make a decision),” he said. “I want to tell a coach: 'Hey, I’m committing here. Don’t worry about me. I’m ready to work as soon as I get to campus.' I want to get that point addressed and let them know that I’m really taking it slow.”

“I talk to Charlie Strong all the time,” Madubuike said. “He’s a great coach and a great motivator. He has great people around him. They got great players like Malik Jefferson, DeAndre McNeal and Charles Omenihu. All these guys are showing me love on Twitter, too. UT is a great school and a school I look forward to seeing again.”

“The visit (to Texas) was really nice,” Madubuike said. “I felt a personal connection. At A&M, it was more gold, bells and diamonds. At UT, it was more like family. I felt something personal there. A JUCO OL to keep in mind is Gewhite Stallworth of Navarro, who camped at UT this summer (24/7):

“I’ve talked to Coach (Joe) Wickline leading up to the camp that I went to in June and then for a couple of weeks after in the middle of the summer,” Stallworth said. “He said they are interested in me, and he wants to offer me, but he wants to see some film first.”

“Wickline told me he really liked my footwork and my strength at the camp,” Stallworth explained. “He just wants to see what I can do in live action first, and I think they’ll offer me.”

“Texas, of course, would be a top school for me to consider,” Stallworth said. “They’ve got a beautiful campus, and I loved their practice facilities and weight room.”

“Coach Wickline is a stern coach who stresses discipline like the one that I have now,” Stallworth said. “That’s a good thing.”
