I imagine they took him at his word that he would complete the requirement after he committed and really didn't have a choice in the matter because of a lack of depth at the position. Their update read like the Cy Falls coach trying to cover for Lampkin after he admitted publicly he wants to go to OU.

His coach even went as far as saying Lampkin is still enrolled in that class and should pass it.

I spoke with Cy Falls head coach Kirk Eaton to try and get some clarification of where things are with defensive tackle Du'Vonta Lampkin in what has been a very confusing situation.


Eaton did speak with Lampkin this weekend and on Monday. He said the situation is a head-scratcher for him as well, and he believes Lampkin has made some confusing choices in large part because he's young and afraid of making such a big decision.

However, coach Eaton said that Lampkin is still taking his Spanish course and Eaton still fully expects Lampkin to pass the course and enroll at Texas. The way he put it, he thinks deep down inside, that's what Lampkin really wants, but Lampkin is afraid of the possibility of not getting admitted into Texas and then having to scramble for a back-up plan. But Eaton has stressed to Lampkin that Lampkin made a big commitment, he signed his letter of intent and he needs to follow through with his word.


If it turns out Lampkin is unable to qualify, Eaton said it's his understanding that Lampkin could then enroll at an out-of-state school like Oklahoma, but he's still hopeful and confident that that scenario won't come into play.

I'm sure all our recent OL high draft picks help us. Maybe they also think they'll get noticed more when they're blocking for Kyle Allen and Kyler Murray. Not to kick you while you're down, but your offense with Swoopes is probably not the kind of attention they're looking for.

That's my guess anyway - might need to see some type of improvement / potential from your offense before some kid(s) will take a chance with what he hopes will be a professional career. Of course it's hard to turn it around before someone buys in - just one of those difficult situations to get out of. It's a vicious cycle - good kids don't want to go there because your offense sucks, and without good commits it will suck next year and the following year's recruits will likely look elsewhere too.

Both Robinson and Jackson are thin for their positions but very fast and athletic. It'll be nice to see Jackson every week this season at the Steele games and that Judson/Steele game will be even more fun to watch now.

Update on DT Gerald Wilbon of Destrehan, LA after his unofficial visit to UT (24/7):

“I loved the visit,” Wilbon said. “Everything was really nice. The facilities were some of the best I’ve ever seen. My favorite part was just getting to tour the campus and see everything in person.”

“We had good meetings,” Wilbon said. “It was great to meet Coach Strong. He seems like a really cool coach and someone I would want to play for. He said he wants me to be there. I’ve known Coach Haley since he was at LSU, so we have a good relationship.”

“My interest level in Texas is very high,” Wilbon said. “The fact that it’s a major program is very appealing to me. I also love the tradition and the history of the school.”
