LUBBOCK, Texas -- Media guides are supposed to list facts and figures, quickly relay information from past games or historic landmarks and, of course, talk up the home school whenever possible.

They are not necessarily unbiased manuals, but then again, rarely do they convey opinions. Especially about opponents.

Well, Texas A&M has caused a mighty stir by changing all of that.

On page 226 of the 2002 Aggies football media guide, a feature lifted from an Aggies alumni magazine -- headlined, "Worst Atmosphere" -- puts an interesting spin on events that occurred in the ugly aftermath of Texas Tech's 12-0 win over A&M last season, when Tech students tore down a goalpost and tried to shove it into an A&M fan section, leading to numerous fights.

According to a story in the Dallas Morning News, the media guide section calls the Red Raiders "classless clowns," and the alumni story also says Tech fans "were even uglier than the barren stretch of dirt some West Texans call a city." The Red Raiders, "even in victory, looked like classless clowns."

It then goes on to refer to Texas Tech's basketball coach, Bob Knight, saying, "No school in America better deserves Bobby Knight than Texas Tech."

Heard mixed reviews on Mack Brown in game analysis with ESPN. Personally, I think he talks too much. His prepared analysis pre/post game stuff that is mixed quite well with ad lib is very good imo.

Mack is gonn get paid. No doubt. He won't be coaching again.

Brick Haley is one of the worst D line coaches in CFB. Under his tutelage, Danielle Hunter, a guy with measurables ever bit as impressive as Jadeveon Clowney, accumulated 4 sacks in his college career and was drafted in the 3rd round. Anthony "Freak" Johnson went undrafted. He is a joke.

Have a hard time believing Justin would decommit since he has shown 0 interest in doing so..I try not to bite on too many rumors at this point and even more so when it suposedly involves a 5* player.

Current Arky starting RB Alex Collins declared for the NFL draft. Playing time just opened up for Whaley. I'm sure that will play a factor.

“Oh, it was a blessing,” McCollum said. “They (Texas) were my dream school growing up. For them to offer me, it was a blessing to happen. (Mattox) offered me while he was at Tulsa, so I'd say my relationship with him is pretty good.”

“Whenever Coach Wickline was there, I took the ‘dream school’ part out of it because I didn’t want to play for Coach Wickline,” McCollum said.

“I just like Texas A&M more,” McCollum said. “They were closer. They are in the SEC. I fit better. I just like it more.”

Texas reached out to Anderson on Tuesday of this week (believe it was RBs coach Tommie Robinson) to touch base. One source told us Texas is trying to get Anderson on campus for a visit, but nothing has been set up.

We're told Anderson will visit TCU next week (January 15) and Anderson is still deciding on what he'll do for the final two visit weekends of the year.

The vibe we picked up from people this week is that TCU could be the team to beat. In fact, there's some thought that Anderson could commit to TCU on his visit next weekend. If he doesn't, Texas stands a good chance of getting Anderson in for a campus.

Several commits fell after last week, and a few days around the Army All-American Game revealed some new information about some of the top prospects on the Texas board. Mike Williams was removed from the board when he announced Saturday night he was accepted to Stanford officially.

In this week’s edition of the signing day forecast we give you our take on the crystal ball to track the top targets on the Texas board. Each week we will give you a look at how these recruitments are trending and give you our prediction and a confidence rating based on a scale of 0-5.

Running Backs

Devwah Whaley – Texas still feels like they can win this one, and if Whaley makes his visit this week all bets are off. For now we will stick with our pick but we expect to have a clear picture after the visit weekend.

Kyle Porter – Porter doesn’t like the attention recruiting brings, and he just wants to play football. Word around San Antonio this weekend is the Longhorns remain in good shape.

Lil’Jordan Humphrey – Texas and California are in play here, and Humphrey is very close with a few Texas commits. Things continue to move in the right direction with the multi purpose Southlake star. He announces on January 30th.

Irvin Smith – Smith is still committed to A&M despite Jake Spavital getting the axe. While he remains publicly committed, behind the scenes things are churning. Sources this week indicated this one is trending positively for Texas but the visit to Alabama remains a wild card.

Offensive Line

JP Urquidez – I don’t know that Texas is seriously involved here. I’d say we know more after the dead period.

Zach Shackleford – Texas is ready to put the full court press on Shack, and despite the strong ties with the Kansas State staff, the feeling is that Texas can close with one of the top interior line prospects in the state.

Patrick Hudson – As has been the case from the start, there is a lot of confusion as to whom Hudson will visit in January. He’s never been one for the recruiting spotlight and it seems like the longer this goes, the better it fares for Baylor.

Defensive Line

Jordan Elliott – Elliott was adamant during the Army Bowl that he was sticking with Michigan and not visiting Texas. To our knowledge the Texas staff has not been in contact but there is thought they will make a last minute run at the Houston DT.

Kelvin Lucky – The Horns need to get Lucky on campus and sell him on becoming the uber athletic edge prospect Charlie Strong has been looking for. The Texas staff could close this one if they push for it.

Stephon Taylor – News on Taylor continues to indicate positive things for the Longhorns. Taylor could make a return visit (unofficially) to Austin and if he does consider that a very positive sign.

D’Andre Christmas-Giles – Like Taylor, this one is trending more positive by the day. It is conceivable Texas could end up with a trio of Louisiana DT prospects. Word around San Antonio is that LSU isn’t the threat they were made out be.

Marcell Southall – All signs still point to Norman, but there is some thought a visit to Texas will take place.

Dontavious Jackson – The word on Jackson this week was negative for Texas and there was some thought the feeling could be mutual. I don’t personally believe that, but it’s looking to be more unlikely that Jackson will end up in Austin.

Erick Fowler – Fowler announced he would be in for the big visit weekend in January. Texas may be looking at him as an inside linebacker at this point thus the rumored drop in interest for Jackson. I have caught up with all 19 OV's at this time. From what I can gather, you will see everyone arrive roughly between the hours of 2pm-4pm today. A few might roll in a bit early and you might see the Mark Jackson family arrive around 5:30pm but everyone as of now is "scheduled" to arrive between the hours of 2-4.

The schedule of events for the OV's is and has been planned to the minute. I will get into that later this evening--You can expect both the AD and the President to speak during the OV weekend. From what I was told they will speak separately due to a scheduling conflict with the Presidents office.

FOOTBALL BRANIACS: Chris Daniels: Texas’ coach Brian Jean-Mary did an in-home visit with OU DT commit Chris Daniels. The Longhorns offered Daniels shortly before he announced his commitment and as I’ve mentioned many times now, there are a number of close family ties between Daniels and Charlie Strong.
Texas did their first in-home with Daniels last night and I spoke with Daniels father shortly after, who told me the visit went better than he expected. Daniels Sr. said, “both schools want him to play a similar role in the defense and it’s a role that we feel suits where my son wants to play…Texas was always one of the schools we were high on because of Coach Strong and the respect we have for him.”
Daniels then turned back to talking about Oklahoma and said, “Oklahoma has been recruiting my son for a while and Bob Stoops is one of the best in the game. And we have great respect for him…on our visit he was with us the entire time…and I have great respect as well for Coach (Diron) Reynolds and I feel comfortable with my son playing for him…I feel like he will teach my son what he needs to be successful.”
Daniels said that it’s coach Charlie Strong who has been the primary recruiter. When I asked about their relationship with coach Brick Haley Daniels Sr said they have not yet spoken with Haley. They will obviously get a chance to get to know him on the trip this weekend.

I agree 100% with everything you're saying and if I'm Strong, I don't stop until he sign his LOI. Here are Saturday's notes on Texas targets.

— Things are trending extremely well for two visitors in particular — Belton offensive lineman Zach Shackelford and Aldine Davis linebacker Jeffrey McCulloch. It would be surprising if Shackelford doesn’t flip to the Longhorns over the next 48 hours. Meanwhile, it appears Texas has taken a clear lead over Notre Dame in the race for McCulloch.

— I’m also hearing very good things regarding Southlake Carroll athlete Lil’Jordan Humphrey. Despite the Obi Eboh situation and his remaining official visit to California, Texas is without a doubt the team to beat in his recruitment.

— I’ve heard from multiple sources that things are going great for McDonogh 35 (La.) defensive tackle Stephon Taylor. A major target at a position of need, Taylor would be a huge addition for the Longhorns, and it’s definitely looking like it might happen.

— All eyes are on Nacogdoches safety Brandon Jones. While this is still a dogfight with Texas A&M, I’m told UT is continuing to make a big impression on the five-star prospect. I wouldn’t be surprised if he signs with the Longhorns on signing day.

— I was, however, a bit surprised to hear that Texas might be a bigger player for Manvel safety Deontay Anderson than originally thought. Texas has always hung around in his recruitment, but Anderson has been considered an Ole Miss lock for some time. I still expect him to land there, but UT is making it interesting.

— As we reported on the board, four-star Waco cornerback Eric Cuffee showed up for his unofficial visit to Texas today. Despite his scheduled official visits to Arkansas and Texas A&M, I would consider Cuffee a heavy Texas lean at this time.

— I haven’t heard much regarding Chris Daniels, Marcel Southall or Isaiah Chambers. Right now, I would say all three are still long shots. But the visit could change things.

There's a poster on OB who everyone claims has some credibility from last recruiting cycle. Supposedly he knows a lot of guys on the team. Last year he maintainfirm that Kris Boyd was coming to Texas despite all the drama. He is saying that he has word that Shark, B. Jones, D. Jax, Shack, Cuffee, and LilJ are all in.
