"some economists say" COVID-19 threatens the economic recovery in the USA
“Everything that is happening now, the risk of a resurgence in COVID-19 as well as policymakers walking away from stimulus negotiations — those two factors are what my team had feared would happen,” said [Beth Ann] Bovino [Chief economist of S&P Global].
“It wouldn’t be as large [a decline] as what we experienced in the first half of the year, but it would be a double dip,” Bovino said.

Tyson suspends managers at pork plant who placed bets on how many workers would get COVID-19
As state officials and lawmakers urged the shutdown of a Tyson Foods pork-processing plant in Iowa, managers at the plant reportedly placed bets on how many would end up getting sick.
That is one of the many new allegations leveled against Tyson Foods in an amended lawsuit filed Wednesday. The corporation kept its Waterloo, Iowa, plant open even as local officials urged its shutdown early in the pandemic.
As a result, about 1,000 employees contracted COVID-19, five of whom died. That includes Isidro Fernandez, whose family filed the suit against the meat empire this year.

Obama got a Nobel for nothing.
Cuomo got a Emmy for showing concern and maintaining a rigid, televised pose of public service during the crisis. Something Trump might have emulated to his own benefit. It would have cost him nothing. Putting the difference in reception down to party affiliation is absurd, Trump had his chance to play the national comforter on TV and flopped. Couldn't do it.

In the past two weeks, the hospital had to convert an entire building into a COVID-19 tower, from the top down. It now has 10 COVID-19 units, each taking up an entire hospital floor. Three of the units provide intensive care to the very sickest people, several of whom die every day. One unit solely provides “comfort care” to COVID-19 patients who are certain to die. “We’ve never had to do anything like this,” Angela Hewlett, the infectious-disease specialist who directs the hospital’s COVID-19 team, told me. “We are on an absolutely catastrophic path.”https://www.theatlantic.com/health/archive/2020/11/americas-best-prepared-hospital-nearly-overwhelmed/617156/

Perhaps no hospital in the United States was better prepared for a pandemic than the University of Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha.
After the SARS outbreak of 2003, its staff began specifically preparing for emerging infections. The center has the nation’s only federal quarantine facility and its largest biocontainment unit, which cared for airlifted Ebola patients in 2014. The people on staff had detailed pandemic plans. They ran drills. Ron Klain, who was President Barack Obama’s “Ebola czar” and will be Joe Biden’s chief of staff in the White House, once told me that UNMC is “arguably the best in the country” at handling dangerous and unusual diseases. There’s a reason many of the Americans who were airlifted from the Diamond Princess cruise ship in February (https://www.unmc.edu/news.cfm?match=25151) were sent to UNMC.

The normal flu seasons are not either. It mostly kills non fully functional immune systems which includes the very young. But as far as capability to infect many, this virus wins hands down. Which is why it killing so many people. It infects so many more people.

That would be true if I said only countries that suppress information do well on a world stage. You struggle with reading comprehension. Maybe you just address what you want my response to say instead of what it says. Had China been honest, they would likely have a lot of deaths and lose face internationally. Ignorance means dipshits can simply ignore the lack of information and leave China out of the COVID discussion altogether. It worked. Hell, MSM was even defending China against "Chinese Virus" claims. Now it's taboo to say Chinese Virus but you and others here have no problem saying your POTUS killed 300K people. See how well it worked for China to simply not report?

No one here has claimed China is an open book, but to hold it forth as representative of countries that have done well on the world stage is veracity challenged to say the least. Your inference that the only reason China has done well on the world stage has been because it suppresses information is dishonest as well, their public health countermeasures (city wide quarantines, mass testing and vaccination) have been notably robust.

It's true regardless. Your parsing doesn't change that, it's just more pettifogging.
Lol you can say whatever you want about China and the China virus. No taboos here.
He is pushing that narrative because Ted Cruz is. That is what the less crazy, but dishonest, part of the right wing propaganda mill is putting out these days.
Bash China.
But,
Ignore Trumps mishandling of the pandemic.

You're completely lost. Canada and New Zealand are not counter examples. Do they prove that countries who suppress information don't do well on a world stage? Or are they simply not related to that comment at all? Exactly.

:lmao the narrative shifts now!
:lol "notably robust" when they suppress any real data... do tell just how you know this.
They both seem to be faring well relative to the rest of the world.
Do you have a point here?
China fared better because no one knows how many really died from COVID in China. But note you say they fared well vs the ROTW, proving my point again. Not knowing = assuming they did well.

Most likely sustain another 200k before enough people are vaccinated to slow it down in late spring.

IDK, Redfield says expect 450k official dead by the end of January and it's probably going to take a while to vaccinate all the health care workers much less even start on the elderly. And are we still looking at a month and a half after inoculation before you're protected in full? Sounds like it could be a close call. And especially after accounting for the 'pneumonia deaths' spike.

We were saying no way just a few months ago. We were also saying we would hit 2k a day in mid December. The fact that all of that was a huge undercount plus the conservative IMHE saying nearly 500k by March tells me that we will pass that Spanish Flu mark or at least get really close.

Plus I forgot to factor in all the COVID truthers and anti-vaxxers that won't take these vaccines. Makes you think we'll run right past the US Spanish flu death count. Though you gotta wonder if that was a massive undercount given how much more deadly 1918 H1N1 was worldwide.

And some of those vaccines will be 2 doses. There will be a few who never go back for that second.
The fact that we can even discuss reaching official Spanish Flu numbers is a tragedy.

Worst health care f up in US history.
It did not have to be this bad, not with what we are capable of today.
The lack of unity in slowing this down is a historic disaster for a nation with our current communication and health capabilities.
Unfathomable failure for our country.

Already hitting 3k deaths per day. So much for 2k by mid December...

The oligarchy is doing fantastically, immune from health and economic pain Of The People.
The oligarchy has paid for weakening American and govt by division, polarization, propaganda on all the social issues used to divide (God, Gays, Guns, Race, Abortion) with the resulting loss of trust in institutions and INCREASE in the wealth from power for the oligarchy, as was their goal.
As in 2009, the oligarchy's vultures will buy up distressed Capital (property) as owners/borrowers go tits up.
Labor of course is even more distressed and will be thankful for whatever decreasingly minimal crumbs the Capitalists let them have.
iow, USA isn't a failed state, a shit hole, a declining society by accident or by natural forces, but from a strategy by the oligarchy to enrich and empower itself to the detriment of any opposing, countervailing power, like Unions or the government.
The USA's decline is not echoed by other industrial countries like Canada, Western Europe

Yep. Pretty stupid. Can't even delineate who died from covid. This chart could mean someone had covid antibodies or tested positive over 60 days before death. It also includes people dying of slips trips and falls that had tested pos or assumed pos months prior to death.
The way they count covid. You could get the vaccine and then take pcr and be a covid death.

Just two weeks after joining the growing list of states where at least one in every 1,000 residents has died from coronavirus-linked causes, North Dakota’s grim statistic has escalated: as of Tuesday, one in every 800 North Dakotans has been claimed by Covid-19. https://www.forbes.com/sites/jemimamcevoy/2020/12/01/1-in-every-800-north-dakota-residents-now-dead-from-covid/?sh=165e35a44555

If we're getting 3000 deaths in a day ~3 weeks before Thanksgiving induced deaths are showing up, I don't see how we don't hit that 5000 number. Especially after Texas' big spike in July came from Memorial Day.
