Fuck just noticed the Trump's Corona Plague Death Count has passed my post count. Grim numbers. Will pass ChumpDumper (https://www.spurstalk.com/forums/member.php?u=153)'s post count maybe early June. Hopefully doesn't pass Marcus Bryant (https://www.spurstalk.com/forums/member.php?u=5)'s postcount before we get a vaccine tho.

This is NOT Trump’s flu. He owns the fckd up response. He owns getting on TV everyday, until he finally shut himself down, and making a complete fool of himself because he did not want to or was unable to understand expertise. So put Pence and Kushner on the job until it gets bad enough he has to rely on expertise, but he hates it. He hates the fact that people know a lot more than he does and can speak over him with authority. This is one fkd up LEADER.

Your Spanish Flu is way undercounted. Propaganda at its finest.

It happened in the early 1900's.

The first radio news program was broadcast August 31, 1920 by station 8MK in Detroit (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Detroit), Michigan (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michigan), which survives today as all-news format station WWJ (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/WWJ_(AM)) under ownership of the CBS network. The first college radio station began broadcasting on October 14, 1920 from Union College, Schenectady, New York (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/New_York_(state)) under the personal call letters of Wendell King, an African-American (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/African-American) student at the school

Communication was not close to regular use.
How do you figure a worldwide disease was easily tabulated and thus undercounted?
And how do you know this was done purposely?

There are ways to figure out that it might be an undercount, can you guide me to your sources?

Birx says she trust no info from the CDC (knowing that it is corrupted with Trash sycophants)

“During a task force meeting Wednesday, a heated discussion broke out between Deborah Birx, the physician who oversees the administration’s coronavirus response, and Robert Redfield, the director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Birx and others were frustrated with the CDC’s antiquated system for tracking virus data, which they worried was inflating some statistics — such as mortality rate and case count — by as much as 25 percent, according to four people present for the discussion or later briefed on it.”

So Birx is worried these Trash sycophants are inflating mortality rate and case count?

This is good.
This is how it must be behind the scenes with the experts getting frustrated or disagreeing, we WANT this.

We dont want a president who shuts off the experts because he cant stand the popularity being greater than his or that they might be perceived, because they are, more knowledgeable that he is.

You would think that a virus that spreads across the entire world in a matter of a few months would have already run it's course by now, wouldn't you? Okay, but that doesn't support a highly communicable disease that spreads to other countries in a few months. Who estimates 25%? How do they support it? Antibody tests? Regular tests? Are the antibodies to the uniqueness of COVID19? It shares a lot of genetic information that exists in other viruses.

I'm not being adversarial. I'm just pointing to the fact there are questions that most people don't even know enough to consider asking. It is being considered airborne, hence the 6 foot distancing. My point is that if it is as communicable as they say, and cases went from China to practically every country within a few months, it would make sense that it could have run its course by now and almost everyone has been exposed

No it wouldn't or we'd see at least 40% of every population center on Earth having COVID antibodies when tested. We don't even see anything approaching that in the world's COVID epicenter of New York. It makes no sense that it would have run its course when major population centers like LA only showed a 4-5% infection rate from antibody testing. People talking about getting to herd immunity are essentially saying that we sacrifice the elderly and immunocompromised to be able to get there as fast as possible. That isn't herd immunity, that is eugenics.

ever heard of airplanes?

I can travel to Hawaii, Sydney, Homg Kong, Dubai, Paris, London and LA in less than 1 week. does that make a a highly communicable virus???

Seriously, you don't have to be sarcastic. While you are in those places you have to contract it or while you are on an airplane or close proximity of others you have to contract it and it has to be relatively easy to pass from one person to the next. Highly communicable means it is easily passed from one person to the next. That has to happen in addition to air travel in order for it to affect so many parts of the globe, so quickly.

I don't remember how it all shook out, but ABC's respectful, super low key nightly tally of war dead -- can't remember whether Afghanistan or Iraq in the early 2000s, li'l help? -- was met with coordinated howls of indignation from right wing broadcast and digital media.

So, on my drive back to Texas I observed packed restaurants in Oklahoma, and a Buccee's in Dallas that was as packed as I have ever seen one, with most not wearing masks. I had just stopped for gas, and no fucking way did I go in.

I think a lot of people are just tired of being cautious, and some are outright "no one is going to tell me to wear a mask" level stupid.

Give it two weeks and the count of sick will explode, as will the deaths. I think we are about to get serious smacked with an uptick in Rnaught.

American Travelers Are About to Be Pariahs in This New World

As tourist-centric countries begin testing travel corridors and reciprocal quarantine regulations, American travelers might find themselves locked out of the post-pandemic world.

Barbie Latza Nadeau
(https://www.thedailybeast.com/author/barbie-latza-nadeau)Updated May. 12, 2020 3:40PM ET / Published May. 12, 2020 3:31AM ET

One thing is sure: Gone are the days of the American abroad, at least for those hoping to summer in Europe this year. The new models on how to reopen European travel do not have room for the American tourist for the foreseeable future.

The European Union is set to release new guidelines called “Europe Needs a Break” on Wednesday that will recommend replacing travel bans with what they are calling “targeted restrictions” based on contagion levels and reciprocity among European and neighboring nations, many of which have been under draconian lockdowns backed by science. The key to any successful reopening in Europe is based entirely on risk assessment, meaning anyone coming from a nation deemed risky or careless will be the first to be banned. Simply put, anyone who has been under the lax American approach to the pandemic, which has been the laughing stock of Europe (https://www.thedailybeast.com/europe-hard-hit-by-covid-19-watches-with-horror-the-us-rush-to-reopen?ref=home), won’t be welcome any time soon.

The day before I got sick, I ran three miles, walked 10 more, then raced up the stairs to my fifth-floor apartment as always, slinging laundry with me as I went.
The next day, April 17, I became one of the thousands of New Yorkers to fall ill with Covid-19. I haven’t felt the same since.

If you live in New York City, you know what this virus can do. In just under two months, an estimated 24,000 (https://www.cdc.gov/mmwr/volumes/69/wr/mm6919e5.htm?s_cid=mm6919e5_e&deliveryName=USCDC_921-DM27988) New Yorkers have died. That’s more than twice (https://www1.nyc.gov/assets/nypd/downloads/pdf/analysis_and_planning/historical-crime-data/seven-major-felony-offenses-2000-2019.pdf) the number of people we lost to homicide over the past 20 years.

Now I worry for Americans elsewhere. When I see photographs of crowds packing into a newly reopened big-box store in Arkansas (https://www.yahoo.com/lifestyle/tj-maxx-reopening-safety-spotlight-143029402.html) or scores of people jammed into a Colorado restaurant (https://www.denverpost.com/2020/05/10/castle-rock-cc-coffee-reopens-coronavirus/) without masks, it’s clear too many Americans still don’t grasp the power of this disease.

The second day I was sick, I woke up to what felt like hot tar buried deep in my chest. I could not get a deep breath unless I was on all fours. I’m healthy. I’m a runner. I’m 33 years old.

There will be a lot of this in both directions. If it's believed that high numbers reflect poorly on the leaders, the counting method will be altered to show lower numbers. If the numbers being higher mean more federal dollars, the numbers will be higher. Some of it will just be someone being too anxious to follow their perception of the guidelines.

The fact remains that no one will ever know the true count of all of the deaths from this disease. From the article it explains that this person had cirossis of the liver and .55 BAC. Yet, listed as a covid death. People are not going to research this for every death. This is why preexisting conditions matter. This person did not die because of the virus. Only had the virus when he died.

One method is to consider all positive cases in total, then to explain what happened to them. They either died or they recovered. If they died, it doesn't have to be from the virus, but it clears the caseload. Another method is to just look at the death count (this is the method the general public and forum pundits use). Then they compare death counts and consider that every one was someone choking to death on their own lung tissue. Then the trusty news media (should have the term "news" removed from their moniker, and be called "opinion feed") plays both sides, taking which ever combination of numbers best suits their audience's echo chamber needs.

In reality, there are plenty dying from the virus and the actual count is a side note. It only matters in the virus olympics where entity X is so much better than entity Y, or in situations were funding is based on death totals.

Nonsense.

If for tens years average deaths in the US are within a small range on a daily basis, and all of a sudden you see an otherwise unexplained massive spike in deaths at the same time you have a novel pandemic, you can get to a pretty darn good approximation of deaths either directly or indirectly caused by the disease.

You can live with pre-existing conditions for decades. Sure it matters to whether or not the virus is deadly, but you can tease out how many people normally die from those things, and isolate the data. Be happy to point you to a good actuary or two who does exactly that.

100Ks of the sick people have no insurance, health care providers will not be re-imbursed,

so the health care providers will start charging the health insurance companies more to make up their non-reimbursed costs and lost profits from non-urgent care.

iow, the costs of treating 100Ks C19 victims will be socialized to all insurance clients.

Don't forget to add all of those tests into this cost. Remember that over 90 percent of people tested are negative. But with all the rhetoric of need more test, more tests will be made and given and people will continue to test if they have a symptom which is anything at this point. Lots of cost associated with the government response that many do not take into consideration.

Does it? If you test negative for antibodies, then how many times are you going to test for the virus. A negative test today doesn't mean you won't get it tomorrow.

Combine that with 90 percent of people won't need medical attention, not sure where that balance would be, sure seems like a never ending cycle for people demanding more tests.

Their assessment found that the ability to detect antibodies in people who had tested positive for the virus increased over time, rising to 81–100 percent when more than 20 days had elapsed since symptoms began, depending on the product. One of the members of the team, Patrick Hsu, a bioengineer at UCB, notes that this finding highlights why longitudinal antibody testing is important, given that a negative result may mean a person had been exposed to the virus but hadn’t yet developed a detectable level of antibodies. On the specificity side, the proportion of false positives found in the pre–COVID-19 samples ranged from 0–16 percent. The agreement between the findings of LFAs and ELISAs ranged from 75–94 percent. The team posted its results as a preprint on the project website on April 24. Alex Marson, an immunologist at UCSF and a coauthor of the report, cautions that some numbers, especially for tests’ ability to detect antibodies in positive cases, may be revised as his team continues to analyze the data.

Sorry, I can't understand the statistics for you.

In order for you to really understand my point, you will have to understand means, medians, standard deviations, and a host of other concepts from probability and statistics.

Your post here was the equivalent of saying "lol adiabatic process".

We will be able to get pretty close to what it was in reality once we get enough data on mortality and incidence, because we can use that to isolate out the causes of the sudden spike in deaths.

The only way that would really not work is if there is some sort of unexplained spike in other causes of death.

Are you trying to say that we missed some spike in heart attacks or a natural disaster that killed a lot of extra people every day for the last few months?

Indeed.

Sort of a pointless calculation, given how little we are testing.

90000/.0066 implies 13M cases.

We have diagnosed only 1.4M, meaning we are falling farther and farther behind where we really need to be testing wise.

The lag used to be about 7 times, now the lag is almost 10 times

It is spreading faster than we think it is, by a large margin, if this simple calculation is correct.

the antibody test is 50% accurate at best

dont mean shit

statistics are not your forte nancy :lmao

let me educate you a bit and you will not embarrass yourself again (hopefully :lmao):

In a population whose infection rate is 5 percent, a test that is 90 percent accurate could deliver a false positive nearly 70 percent of the time.

https://www.nytimes.com/2020/05/13/opinion/antibody-test-accuracy.html

:lmao

Make up your mind

False positives are something the diagnostics community lives with. Its why they have confirmation testing.

:lol out of your league again

:lol "make up your mind"

Dude, his first post was about a real test, the second was a hypothetical posed by the op-ed author to make a point about statistics, which was exactly valid. Your rush to ding him, showed you didn't really understand what he posted. Self-pwnage.

Even with a high confidence (hypothetical) test, if only 5% of the population has it then the vast majority of your positives will be false.

If the real test is only 50% accurate, almost all of your positives would be false, and even testing two or three times would still not barely narrow that down to the point of meaninglessness.

Bayes Theorem ftw. I'll let you google that. or not. Plenty of good primers on it in youtube.

I said. You will never figure out the true number of deaths. Which you wont/can't. Then you respond with a deviation of an average. Not sure what you dont get about that.

Indeed.

Sort of a pointless calculation, given how little we are testing.

90,000 dead / 1,400,000 cases = 6.4% mortality

90000 / 0.064 = 1.4M

90,000 dead / 1,400,000 cases = 6.4% mortality

90000 / 0.064 = 1.4M

There are millions of mild/asymptomatic cases that aren't included in your 1.4M denominator.

Some people believe that people who are tested and confirmed as well as those who died that haven't been counted are the only people in the data.

They seemingly forget that over 85 percent of people infected will have mild symptoms. They think that these people do not count. But they also argue that the virus is extremely transmissible. Lots of strange "points" being made

Yeah case fatality rate doesn't tell much if you're not doing at least randomized testing. From NYC's antibody testing COVID19 appeared to have about a 0.5% mortality rate, though that's likely an undercount since it only counts those who have died vs those infected instead of those who have died or will die from infections they already have vs those infected, since the time between first infection and death seems to be around 3-6 weeks for those who die. So a total morality rate of around 0.7% or 0.8% wouldn't surprise me much.

IMO in a couple of months well have a good idea of how many are infected tbqh.

theories are nice but so far it has been recorded that only about 5-10% of the populations are infected even in places like Sweden.

think about it 5% of 5 billion is 250 milion. thats how much Inbelieve are infected. a whole lot bu lt when you think about it theres a loooong way to go

we are really almost 8 billion so most def we are below 5% infection mark right now

Even 5% US infection rate seems a little high right now if New York, the world epicenter, was only 20-25% a couple of weeks ago.

Start with Neil furguson, he's had crazy model over estimations for years, then look to imhe, then go to random states, start with ny... its not as fun copy and pastIng click bait headlines...

Maybe also reference how many people die with no prexisting condition at any age. Its probably .3 percent

Except it's not.

Absolutely since you had no idea what this virus was and how it worked. I say "you" because you specifically had no idea and that's all that seems to matter to you.

What isn't the same thing? I said fatalities will be inaccurate due to association of covid to deaths that covid was not responsible for.

A person died of alcohol poisoning with a bac of .55 and the cause of death was attributed to covid.

Please explain how this is any different from what I said would happen months ago.

I already told you my stance. The death rate is lower than what is being presented. Maybe deaths should only count for people with no preexisting conditions that die from covid. Wonder what that would be?
