Rosiest projection I saw is most people will be able to get vaccinated by June. Seems hard to believe. Probably just like how anyone who wants a test can get a test back in March.

Face it, DMC, your monotonous whining about the PRC is just a distraction from your butthurt and from the USA's abysmal failure to deal with COVID-19.

Worst health care f up in US history.
It did not have to be this bad, not with what we are capable of today.
The lack of unity in slowing this down is a historic disaster for a nation with our current communication and health capabilities.
Unfathomable failure for our country.
Leadership totally fd up.
Could be worse, take a look at Slovenia's numbers...
Could be worse if Slovenia had our resources?
those resources would have to go along with a historically bad president.
We are set up to tackle these types of problems supposedly.
But we voted an idiot into THE office.
An office that some on here still claim does not matter as BIG everything makes it impossible for a mere president to do anything. Well now we know this office can royally fup anything in the worst way all on its own as well as convincing other witchcrafttards to go along with snake oil theories.
Now I realize why those tabloids were in place while people waited in grocery store lines. People are fascinated with retarded theories that just a few have the capability of understanding. The oligarchy is doing fantastically, immune from health and economic pain Of The People.
The oligarchy has paid for weakening American and govt by division, polarization, propaganda on all the social issues used to divide (God, Gays, Guns, Race, Abortion) with the resulting loss of trust in institutions and INCREASE in the wealth from power for the oligarchy, as was their goal.
As in 2009, the oligarchy's vultures will buy up distressed Capital (property) as owners/borrowers go tits up.
Labor of course is even more distressed and will be thankful for whatever decreasingly minimal crumbs the Capitalists let them have.
iow, USA isn't a failed state, a shit hole, a declining society by accident or by natural forces, but from a strategy by the oligarchy to enrich and empower itself to the detriment of any opposing, countervailing power, like Unions or the government.
The USA's decline is not echoed by other industrial countries like Canada, Western Europe
yes the oligarchy got Trump elected, sure thing.

My point is with our resources and abilities WE should not be NEAR the bottom. WE have the abilities so it makes it extraordinarily shameful.
We actually call ourselves The UNITED States. That’s our name and it’s a joke. Look at the efforts in WWII when we got UNITED in a cause. at least two states singled out for withholding information:
The White House has said it does not share the reports publicly because it wants states to lead the pandemic response. The Center for Public Integrity is collecting and publishing (https://beta.documentcloud.org/app?q=project%3Ared-zone-reports-50664%20) the documents. Last week it exclusively obtained the 50-state version of the Nov. 22 reports (https://beta.documentcloud.org/documents/20418114-50-states-11_22_20-report), revealing that the White House was taking tough stances with many states that refuse to share their reports, including Indiana and South Dakota.

Doubtful... The numbers have been skewed from the beginning and to think otherwise is foolish. If we all had precise numbers then maybe we could talk on this as if we actually are there in the hospitals and dealing with the stupid china virus.
I think back to those little old asians who walked into that restaurant I was in right before the quarantine. You can't stop those who were sent here to spread this bs virus. Those little old ladies did just that or at least attempted to do so. Sticking their faces in people's plates and leaving out the backdoor was super suspect but at the time I thought nothing of it except that it was funny.
We literally are all just bs'ing with each other acting like we all know better than the next man about what's going on. Reality is we're all in the dark and all this back and forth gets us nowhere realistically.

It is bad for news for potential to spread which makes it more likely to infect a large number of people which leads to more hospitalizations just because so many more people are infected. This is pretty straightforward. It’s really not a “who cares”
The CDC’s document on testing guidance now includes the following information:
If you do not have COVID-19 symptoms and have not been in close contact with someone known to have a COVID-19 infection: You do not need a test

If these states got slammed back in April when doctors had no idea how to treat patients for this their deaths/capita would be putting New York to shame.

One thing that the death tally misses:
The number of people with some permanent serious injuries.
Organ damage caused by COVID-19
Although COVID-19 is seen as a disease that primarily affects the lungs, it can damage many other organs as well. This organ damage may increase the risk of long-term health problems. Organs that may be affected by COVID-19 include:
Heart. Imaging tests taken months after recovery from COVID-19 have shown lasting damage to the heart muscle, even in people who experienced only mild COVID-19 symptoms. This may increase the risk of heart failure or other heart complications in the future.
Lungs. The type of pneumonia often associated with COVID-19 can cause long-standing damage to the tiny air sacs (alveoli) in the lungs. The resulting scar tissue can lead to long-term breathing problems.
Brain. Even in young people, COVID-19 can cause strokes, seizures and Guillain-Barre syndrome — a condition that causes temporary paralysis. COVID-19 may also increase the risk of developing Parkinson's disease and Alzheimer's disease.
https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/coronavirus/in-depth/coronavirus-long-term-effects/art-20490351
For every fatality, we are looking at many, many more with some serious damage from the hospitalizations.
I would expect a serious uptick in health care costs after the pandemic ends.

Herd immunity may be a tougher target than previously believed
The recent publication of the Great Barrington Declaration (GBD), which calls for relaxing all public health interventions on young, healthy individuals, has brought the question of herd immunity to the forefront of COVID-19 policy discussions, and is partially based on unpublished research that suggests low herd immunity thresholds (HITs) of 10-20%. We re-evaluate these findings and correct a flawed assumption leading to COVID-19 HIT estimates of 60-80%. If policymakers were to adopt a herd immunity strategy, in which the virus is allowed to spread relatively unimpeded, we project that cumulative COVID-19 deaths would be five times higher than the initial estimates suggest. Our re-estimates of the COVID-19 HIT corroborate strong signals in the data and compelling arguments that most of the globe remains far from herd immunity, and suggest that abandoning community mitigation efforts would jeopardize the welfare of communities and integrity of healthcare systemshttps://www.medrxiv.org/content/10.1101/2020.12.01.20242289v1

Why stop at 90 days? Whats gonna happen in 90 days that will slow it down? The gruesome specatacle of our health care system breaking down, people dying by the thousands because they can't get treatment for otherwise survivable non-COVID medical conditions and mass death like we haven't since the Spanish Flu -- might change behavior. Maybe an effective thereputic treatment will become widely available before vaccines do.
The upper end of the IHME projection is ~5,000 deaths per day in the US by the end of February. I'm hoping hard we can avoid that, we'd have to do things to mitigate transmission. Since neither infrastructure nor political will exist for mass testing and social tracing, social distancing, masking and stay at home orders are pretty much all we've got until effective treatment and vaccines get here.
Winehole23
12-11-2020, 02:15 AM
PFA guess, neither COVID-19 aid nor effective treatment will be made available anytime soon, the duration and intensity of transmission will be heightened and prolonged by states that refuse to close businesses and issue shelter in place orders, because "muh economy" always trumps the well-being of people in the most indoctrinated country in the world.

Your response was expected. Of course you're good because you live in the United States of America where freedom is a God given right and Capitalism is the only catalyst to achieving the American dream. There's the indoctrination I was referring to.
Worshipping a coercive, deadly, intensely exploitative and completely amoral economic system; taking the side of that system against anyone who dares to criticize it; conflating it with freedom and patriotism; stipulating that it is the best thing in the world; and claiming that there is no alternative.

You live in the USA? You work a job? That job allows you to purchase items like the computer/phone you're posting on ST with? You're able to create opportunity by becoming your own boss? etc...
You speak like you don't live in the same system that has afforded you plentiful opportunities to excel.

Not as expected as your take. This is a democracy where citizens have a voice. Saying other places do something better means a support for change. Empiricism and all that.
Back in 1776 you would have been a royalist stooge. In 1853, a landless sharecropper.
I suppose by sucking the corporate establishment dick you feel enfranchised. Given your lack of awareness this is not surprising.

For someone who knew a lot about this illness, he wasn't very smart to delay his own treatment.Doctors are people, man. They make mistakes.
My family doc died of a heart atttack. He thought he was having an asthma attack and hit his puffer -- which probably contributed to his death. He was not a stupid man or a bad doc. He just made a mistake.

Its just sad. In the article you posted, the doc definitely could have survived with early treatment.

I wish he had sought treatment sooner. It's unfortunate he didn't, from the story it seems he was a good doctor. Case fatality rate from COVID-19 for people his age is 2-3%. Dr.Araujo -Preza in addition to waiting on treatment was unlucky.
