is this what COVID turning into the common cold looks like?
1432079487223619586
Yep. It's going to infect everyone repeatedly. It doesn't turn into the common cold, we turn it into a common cold by adapting to it. Adaptive immune system is called that for a reason.
Those charts illustrate why I said long ago it's an ever rising tide rather than "waves".
Early on Laurie Garret thought it would take 3 years to make the first pass through the population whereas Amy Rosenfeld thought 5 years.

Merck doesn't have rights to the drug but they own the bacteria that produce the drug. So everyone that makes generic ivermectin has to pay Merck to use the bacteria.
I like Twiv too. It can be a long slog listening to an hour long discussion on exactly how TMPRSS2 cleaves the furin binding site to allow viral attachment but I find that stuff interesting.

Does this enzyme raise the chance of COVID-related death?
Researchers discovered an enzyme that is genetically related to a key enzyme in snake venom and was found in COVID-19 fatalities in doses 20 times the safe amount.
the circulation of the sPLA2-11A enzyme may be an important method in predicting which patients would die of COVID-19 (https://www.jpost.com/health-and-wellness/covid-19-study-quantifies-antibody-response-to-pfizer-moderna-vaccines-678587).
this enzyme is trying to kill the virus,
but at a certain point it is released in such high amounts that things head in a really bad direction,
destroying the patient's cell membranes and thereby contributing to multiple organ failure and death."
The analysis showed that most healthy people have approximately half a nanogram of the enzyme per milliliter, 63% of people who had severe COVID-19 and died had more than 10 nanograms per milliliter.

vaccines seem to protect against long COVID resulting from post-vaccination infection
the odds of having symptoms for 28 days or more after post-vaccination infection were approximately halved by having two vaccine doses. This result suggests that the risk of long COVID is reduced in individuals who have received double vaccination, when additionally considering the already documented reduced risk of infection overallhttps://www.thelancet.com/journals/laninf/article/PIIS1473-3099(21)00460-6/fulltext

Doesn't appear to be a widespread issue
"JACKSON, Miss. (AP) — In an article published Aug. 23, 2021, about people taking livestock medicine to try to treat coronavirus, The Associated Press erroneously reported based on information provided by the Mississippi Department of Health that 70% of recent calls to the Mississippi Poison Control Center were from people who had ingested ivermectin to try to treat COVID-19. State Epidemiologist Dr. Paul Byers said Wednesday the number of calls to poison control about ivermectin was about 2%. He said of the calls that were about ivermectin, 70% were by people who had ingested the veterinary version of the medicine."

Moderna has 37 programs in development across 34 development candidates, including 22 in ongoing clinical studies, it said.
The company said it is working on a next-generation vaccine against Covid-19, mRNA-1283, and an early-stage study is fully enrolled. The vaccine encodes for the portions of the SARS-CoV-2 spike protein the company said are critical for neutralization, and it is being developed as a potential refrigerator stable mRNA vaccine that will allow for easier distribution and administration by healthcare providers.

Myths and Facts about COVID-19 Vaccines
Updated Sept. 7, 2021

How do I know which COVID-19 vaccine information sources are accurate?
Accurate vaccine information is critical and can help stop common myths and rumors.
It can be difficult to know which sources of information you can trust. Before considering vaccine information on the Internet, check that the information comes from a credible source and is updated on a regular basis. Learn more about finding credible vaccine information.
Bust Common Myths and Learn the Facts
Are all events reported to the Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System (VAERS) caused by vaccination?
computer with an "x"
No. VAERS data alone cannot determine if the reported adverse event was caused by a COVID-19 vaccination. Anyone can report events to VAERS, even if it is not clear whether a vaccine caused the problem. Some VAERS reports may contain information that is incomplete, inaccurate, coincidental, or unverifiable. These adverse events are studied by vaccine safety experts who look for unusually high numbers of health problems, or a pattern of problems, after people receive a particular vaccine.
Recently, the number of deaths reported to VAERS following COVID-19 vaccination has been misinterpreted and misreported as if this number means deaths that were proven to be caused by vaccination. Reports of adverse events to VAERS following vaccination, including deaths, do not necessarily mean that a vaccine caused a health problem.
Learn more about VAERS.
Is the mRNA vaccine considered a vaccine?
Yes. mRNA vaccines, such as Pfizer-BioNTech and Moderna, work differently than other types of vaccines, but they still trigger an immune response inside your body. This type of vaccine is new, but research and development on it has been under way for decades.
mRNA-graphics
The mRNA vaccines do not contain any live virus. Instead, they work by teaching our cells to make a harmless piece of a “spike protein,” which is found on the surface of the virus that causes COVID-19. After making the protein piece, cells display it on their surface. Our immune system then recognizes that it does not belong there and responds to get rid of it. When an immune response begins, antibodies are produced, creating the same response that happens in a natural infection.
vaccine-graphic
In contrast to mRNA vaccines, many other vaccines use a piece of, or weakened version of, the germ that the vaccine protects against. This is how the measles and flu vaccines work. When a weakened or small part of the virus is introduced to your body, you make antibodies to help protect against future infection.
Learn more about how mRNA COVID-19 vaccines work.
Do COVID-19 vaccines contain microchips?
hand holding a microchip
No. COVID-19 vaccines do not contain microchips. Vaccines are developed to fight against disease and are not administered to track your movement. Vaccines work by stimulating your immune system to produce antibodies, exactly like it would if you were exposed to the disease. After getting vaccinated, you develop immunity to that disease, without having to get the disease first.
Learn more about the ingredients in the COVID-19 vaccinations authorized for use in the United States.
Learn more about how mRNA COVID-19 vaccines work.
Can receiving a COVID-19 vaccine cause you to be magnetic?
Receiving a COVID-19 vaccine will not make you magnetic
No. Receiving a COVID-19 vaccine will not make you magnetic, including at the site of vaccination which is usually your arm. COVID-19 vaccines do not contain ingredients that can produce an electromagnetic field at the site of your injection. All COVID-19 vaccines are free from metals.
Learn more about the ingredients in the COVID-19 vaccinations authorized for use in the United States.
Do any of the COVID-19 vaccines authorized for use in the United States shed or release any of their components?
illustration of the shedding that happens with COVID-19 vaccine
No. Vaccine shedding is the term used to describe the release or discharge of any of the vaccine components in or outside of the body. Vaccine shedding can only occur when a vaccine contains a weakened version of the virus. None of the vaccines authorized for use in the U.S. contain a live virus. mRNA and viral vector vaccines are the two types of currently authorized COVID-19 vaccines available.
Learn more about mRNA and viral vector COVID-19 vaccines.
Is it safe for me to get a COVID-19 vaccine if I would like to have a baby one day?
illustration of person thinking about having a baby
Yes. COVID-19 vaccination is recommended for everyone 12 years of age or older, including people who are trying to get pregnant now or might become pregnant in the future, as well as their partners.
Currently no evidence shows that any vaccines, including COVID-19 vaccines, cause fertility problems (problems trying to get pregnant) in women or men. Learn more about COVID-19 vaccines and people who would like to have a baby.
Will a COVID-19 vaccine alter my DNA?
illustration of DNA strand
No. COVID-19 vaccines do not change or interact with your DNA in any way. Both mRNA and viral vector COVID-19 vaccines deliver instructions (genetic material) to our cells to start building protection against the virus that causes COVID-19. However, the material never enters the nucleus of the cell, which is where our DNA is kept.
Learn more about mRNA and viral vector COVID-19 vaccines.
Will getting a COVID-19 vaccine cause me to test positive for COVID-19 on a viral test?
illustration of positive COVID-19 test results
No. None of the authorized and recommended COVID-19 vaccines cause you to test positive on viral tests, which are used to see if you have a current infection.
If your body develops an immune response to vaccination, which is the goal, you may test positive on some antibody tests. Antibody tests indicate you had a previous infection and that you may have some level of protection against the virus.

no. covid doesnt have a 100% kill rate
Here's the argument
The vaccine works!
I am vaccinated so I am protected!
You are not vaccinated so you are not protected!
I cannot be around you because you are not vaccinated!
You'll die much more often than I will from this!
You're the problem though!
Instead of saying how deadly the virus is for the unvaxxed vs vaxxed, why not say what the odds of the vaxxed are from dying around other vaxxed vs being around unvaxxed? That at least says it's your business somehow. The other just says "I have your best interest in mind", and you should know by now that does not work against conservatives

Here's the argument
oh boy
The vaccine works!
true. vaccines help prevent infection, and in the event of a breakthrough case, reduce serious symptoms/hospitalizations/deaths. not 100%, but definitely works.
also, by both decreasing the chances of getting infected to begin with, plus decreasing the amount of time one carries covid, it also significantly reduces one's ability to spread covid to others. not 100%, but definitely works.

You are not vaccinated so you are not protected!
true. unvaccinated people are unprotected because they dont enjoy the benefits of the above. as they are also more likely to contract covid, and to have covid for longer periods of time, they are significantly more likely to spread covid to others.
I cannot be around you because you are not vaccinated!
true! while vaccinated people are protected (as stated above), it's not 100%. being around somebody who is unvaccinated means they have an increased chance of having covid 19, and therefore shedding viral loads which would get vaccinated or unvaccinated people sick (though at a higher rate for unvaccinated people)
You'll die much more often than I will from this!
true!
You're the problem though!
true! if you are choosing not to be part of the group that mitigates the impact of covid, you are absolutely part of the problem
Instead of saying how deadly the virus is for the unvaxxed vs vaxxed, why not say what the odds of the vaxxed are from dying around other vaxxed vs being around unvaxxed? That at least says it's your business somehow. The other just says "I have your best interest in mind", and you should know by now that does not work against conservatives
people ignorant of the above are willfully ignorant at this point

Convalescent plasma does not reduce risk of intubation or death for COVID-19 hospitalized patients
A major study has found that convalescent plasma does not reduce the risk of intubation or death for COVID-19 patients.
However, the study also revealed that the antibody profile in the blood of people who have had the virus is extremely variable and this may modify the response to the treatment.
It has been thought that the blood plasma of COVID-19 survivors would help those seriously ill from the virus but, unfortunately, it does not.
We are cautioning against using convalescent plasma to treat COVID-19 hospitalized patients, unless they are in a closely-monitored clinical trial."
https://www.news-medical.net/news/20210910/Convalescent-plasma-does-not-reduce-risk-of-intubation-or-death-for-COVID-19-hospitalized-patients.aspx
this is true. though it has been demonstrated that even people with naturally immunity will have even more protection when vaccinated
That's all that matters. "More better" isn't the goal for immunizations. If it was, only the most effective one would be mandated.

I have a very sick friend, who is vaccinated.Sympathy for you and your friend, but Delta already existed, it was rampant in India and starting to kick England’s ass back in April. It was already clear we would get it too. We’ve seen that movie before, I guess you were just too thick to read the signs.
I can understand the need to lash out in anger, but it’s not factually well-founded, tbh.

I think another year minimum imo
I thought we were out of the woods because of vaccines. My mistake was thinking antivaxxers were no more than 20% of the country. Anecdotally I'm now wondering about the real effectiveness of the vaccines. Hearing too many cases of fully vaxxed very sick people. Last week I heard of a friend of a friend that had all fully vaxxed family get together. 30 people, 15 got covid, 2 died (one in their 80's and one only 50).

It was pretty simple and easy to predict these vaccines were gonna b shitty tbqh. Rushed, hyper warp.speed wathever :lol.no rigorous testing. It was probabky the easiest call I made. The fact that a vaxed is just as infectious as a non as well as the terrible waning efficacy makes these especially shitty.

Israeli scientists say their antiviral drug could stop COVID-19
An Israeli antiviral drug previously used to treat HIV may be able to stop coronavirus in a matter of days.
a drug previously used in an uncontrolled fashion to treat HIV has a direct antiviral effect against coronavirus, sending patients home virus-free within only a few days.
“Codivir
has a very good safety profile and a very impressive antiviral effect, both in laboratory conditions and in a phase I clinical trial in humans. We eagerly await the results of the double-blind studies using Codivir. It may be a breakthrough in the field of antiviral therapy for early COVID-19 patients.”
Twelve patients between the ages of 18 and 60 with mild to moderate coronavirus participated in the study.
Seven of the volunteers were tested sequentially using a standard PCR swab test every two days from the time they began receiving the treatment, which like insulin is given subcutaneously - injection under the skin.
Patients received two injections per day for 10 days.
Maayan said that five of the patients showed a very profound decline in the viral load during the treatment. Codivir significantly suppressed viral replication in all patients with an antiviral effect noted as early as three days.
the safety profile of the drug was very good. There were no significant side effects from the treatment itself,
the company is already preparing to submit emergency approval requests to several countries once the Phase II trial is complete. It is also preparing for mass production of Codivir in different sites worldwide.

President Rodrigo Duterte admitted that the United States’ COVID-19 vaccine donations influenced his decision to rescind the termination of the Visiting Forces Agreement (VFA).
During his regular Monday briefing on August 2, the president expressed his gratitude for Washington’s donation. Calling his move to recall the termination a “concession,” the president said he "conceded the continuance of the Visiting Forces Agreement in gratitude.”
Duterte also thanked US President Joe Biden for providing the vaccines.
“I’d like to thank the President of the United States, si Biden, the government and the people of America for not forgetting us,” he said.

Low-dose mRNA-1273 COVID-19 vaccine generates durable memory enhanced by cross-reactive T cells (https://www.science.org/doi/10.1126/science.abj9853)
Vaccine-specific CD4+ T cell, CD8+ T cell, binding antibody, and neutralizing antibody responses to the 25-μg Moderna mRNA-1273 vaccine were examined over 7 months post-immunization, including multiple age groups, with a particular interest in assessing whether pre-existing cross-reactive T cell memory impacts vaccine-generated immunity. Vaccine-generated spike-specific memory CD4+ T cells 6 months post-boost were comparable in quantity and quality to COVID-19 cases, including the presence of T follicular helper cells and IFNγ-expressing cells. Spike-specific CD8+ T cells were generated in 88% of subjects, with equivalent memory at 6 months post-boost compared to COVID-19 cases. Lastly, subjects with pre-existing cross-reactive CD4+ T cell memory had increased CD4+ T cell and antibody responses to the vaccine, demonstrating the biological relevance of SARS-CoV-2–cross-reactive CD4+ T cells.

What'd he do? Obeyed Fisher to-the-letter. Late 4th quarter as it came into sharp focus, he dropped the game face and jail breaked for the finish line, that GD Rondo in a mirror image.

don't bogart that joint, my friend
President Joe Biden has sharply criticized DeSantis and others for resisting efforts to encourage mask wearing and ramp up vaccinations, vowing in a speech last week that if “governors won’t help us beat the pandemic, I’ll use my power as president to get them out of the way.”
Still, until recently, the administration had shipped the antibody treatments to states on an as-needed basis — with top health officials in early August going as far as encouraging those battling the Delta surge to seek even more supply.
But demand from a handful of southern states has exploded since then, state and federal officials said, raising concerns they were consuming a disproportionate amount of the national supply. Seven states — Texas, Florida, Mississippi, Tennessee, Georgia, Louisiana and Alabama — accounted for 70 percent of all orders in early September.
The imbalance prompted an effort to rein in control of supplies, over concerns that the government wouldn’t have enough on hand to respond to Covid-19 surges elsewhere in the country.
Earlier this month, HHS officials told states (https://hhsasproea.zoomgov.com/rec/play/ryhlai9SPah9kmskHE-XClO87udwi1IarZw481qSJ7SrRF0MHxTLCaoGQc1hZgZ9HE5Yk DDfL2lMpm5_.b9MuBxBAnr4y2sSF?continueMode=true) that they would more closely scrutinize how much of the treatments were actually being used — but that the department was not going to throttle states’ supply.

There are some obvious political problems that cannot be controlled. Apparently this has something to do with not letting unvaccinated leave their homes in the Philippines. This is a clear violation of their constitution and was apparently causing problems related to our sending vaccines. I dont know which admin. this happened under but apparently it got rectified. There are always the possibilities of diplomatic problems being overcome. But its a bit deeper than us just deciding they get zero help from us. Without qualification... In the long run it helps all of us. But there is giant diplomatic inertia in our country. If they were holding hostages and were using that to force us to give the vaccine we might not. (Obviously this is not the case but it gets very convoluted when dealing with policy in place) But the tit for tat might be deeper than just "let us help you" because China.

Antibodies From Original Strain COVID-19 Infection Don’t Bind To Variants
https://scienceblog.com/wp-content/uploads/2021/09/Antibodies-from-original-strain-COVID-19-infection-dont-bind-to-variants-study-finds-900x600.jpeg
People infected with the original strain of the virus that causes COVID-19 produced a consistent antibody response. However, those antibodies don’t bind well to new variants, Illinois graduate student Timothy Tan (left) and professor Nicholas Wu found.
People infected with the original strain of the virus that causes COVID-19 early in the pandemic produced a consistent antibody response, making two main groups of antibodies to bind to the spike protein on the virus’s outer surface.
However, those antibodies don’t bind well to newer variants,
“Even though this antibody response is very common with the original strain, it doesn’t really interact with variants,” Wu said.
“That, of course, raises the concern of the virus evolving to escape the body’s main antibody response.
Some antibodies should still be effective – the body makes antibodies to many parts of the virus, not only the spike protein – but the particular groups of antibodies that we saw in this study will not be as effective.”

News for Pfizer vaccine for children 5-12:
Given how rarely children become severely ill, the trial was not big enough to draw meaningful conclusions about the vaccine’s ability to prevent Covid or hospitalization. Instead, the researchers relied on measurements of the youngsters’ immune response, on the assumption that the protective levels of antibodies seen in older people would be as protective in younger children.
The children who got the vaccine produced a strong immune response, comparable to the levels of antibodies seen in the earlier trials of participants aged 16 to 25 years. But children in the 5- to 11-year-old group achieved this response with 10 micrograms of the vaccine, a third of the dose given to older children and adults.
At higher doses, the researchers observed more side effects in younger children, including fever, headache and fatigue, although none were severe, Dr. Gruber said. With the 10-microgram dose, “we’re actually seeing after the second dose, less fever, less chills than we see in the 16- to 25-year-olds.”
Immune defenses weaken with age, and the side effects also become milder. This decline in potency is the reason most vaccines are meted out in childhood — and why a much lower dose is often enough for children, said Dr. Yvonne Maldonado, who led the trial at Stanford University and chairs the American Academy of Pediatrics’ infectious disease committee.
“You want to hit the sweet spot, where you’re giving the lowest dose that might elicit reactions, but also high enough to get you a good, sustainable antibody response,” she said.
In children younger than 5, just three micrograms — a tenth of the adult dose — is being tested in trials and seems likely to prove sufficient, she said.

Why doctors don't think vaccine skeptics' acceptance of a helpful COVID-19 treatment is sufficient
some medical experts argue the antibodies aren't enough on their own to make up for the slow-down in vaccine uptake,
he infusions also take a lot of time and require a lot of attention from hospital staff.
They're also more expensive, costing the federal government about $2,100 per dose.
"It's clogging up resources,
it's hard to give, and
a vaccine is $20 and
could prevent almost all of that,"
emphasizing monoclonal antibodies and playing down vaccines is akin to "investing in car insurance without investing in brakes."
they can't keep up with the pace of more serious outbreaks.
the treatments only help individual patients,
whereas vaccines have a snowball effect,
and they also don't provide protective immunity

Except the vaxed are also needing infusions:
BALTIMORE —
While state data shows the vast majority of Marylanders currently hospitalized with COVID-19 are either unvaccinated or partially vaccinated, the percentage of people fully vaccinated is ticking upward.
Infections, illness and hospitalizations are increasing rapidly among fully vaccinated people, according to data from the Maryland Department of Health and new research.
Some experts said it's time to reframe thinking that the vaccine likely won't prevent you from ever getting sick
It's scary, very scary. You think you're safe, but you're not," said Deborah Hernandez, of Baltimore County.
Hernandez got her second dose of the Moderna vaccine in the beginning of February. Seven months later, she got COVID-19.
"I was pretty surprised to say the least," Hernandez said.
Hernandez was at the Baltimore Convention Center Field Hospital on Tuesday for a two-hour infusion with monoclonal antibodies. She's worried about long-COVID and passing the virus on to her grandchildren, especially since she had been so vigilant already.
