Vaccines are designed for specific pathogens. When they mutate, the vaccines can become less effective.
What part of that don't you understand?
When the malady is a moving always mutating target, maybe a vaccine solution is not the way to go. Well unless it makes you infinitely wealthy thanks to forever booster shots

Not really how it works. Unless, you mean a NEW coronavirus hits you when you're in your 70's. Elderly people get common colds all the time. They aren't deadly, since they've been exposed many times over their lives.

Covid is obviously not as mild as a cold. It will still kill 70 year olds at a good clip for the foreseeable future. Yes we will see that 1st hand. Of course in 20, 30, 40 years there will be much better therapeutics for us.

the flu viruses are vastly different compared to the Covid virus.
We make vaccines for 4 different antigens for each season for the flu.
The Covid virus requires one because only one is involved in attaching to cells, the spike protein, and it appears to be very good at this.
And the most likely thing that will happen if the spike protein mutates in the binding domain is that it WILL not be able to bind to your cells.

For the South African strain. this is worrying
Some scientists noted that the variant is possibly able to attach more easily to human cells because of three mutations in the receptor-binding domain (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Severe_acute_respiratory_syndrome_coronavirus_2#St ructural_biology) (RBD) in the spike glycoprotein (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peplomer) of the virus: N501Y[5] (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/501.V2_variant#cite_note-nytimes-5)[9] (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/501.V2_variant#cite_note-caprisa-9) (a change from asparagine (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Asparagine) (N) to tyrosine (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tyrosine) (Y)[10] (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/501.V2_variant#cite_note-10) in amino-acid (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amino-acid) position 501), K417N, and E484K.[11] (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/501.V2_variant#cite_note-11)[12] (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/501.V2_variant#cite_note-12) Two of these mutations, E484K and N501Y, are within the receptor-binding motif (RBM) of the receptor-binding domain (RBD).

Dude, I quoted you "1) -80 is not -94, which is the required storage temperature"
Then I showed you the actual quote from the website:
"The main issue is that the vaccine, which is based on a novel technology that uses synthetic mRNA to activate the immune system against the virus, needs to be kept at minus 70 degrees Celsius (-94 F) or below."
In fact the required storage temp is given in F, not C. The freezer is -80 degrees C. Plenty cold for -94 degrees F requirement.
You're the one who argued against the -80 degree freezer without knowing anything about it.
It is a piece of cake. Buy freezers, install them. Done.

The 2nd infection is attacked by acquired immune system that "learned" about the infection from the first shot which was handled by the innate immune system.

My own anecdotal observation is that people who've had COVID already have a pretty easy time with the vaccine. One nurse I know ended up in the ER after her second shot though. Not sure what happened, haven't seen her yet.

Host-directed theraputics (HSTs)
SARS-CoV-2 viral proteins interact with the eukaryotic translation machinery and inhibitors of translation have potent antiviral effects. Here we report that the drug plitidepsin (aplidin), which has limited clinical approval, possesses antiviral activity (IC90 = 0.88 nM) 27.5-fold more potent than remdesivir against SARS-CoV-2 in vitro, with limited toxicity in cell culture. Through the use of a drug resistant mutant, we show that the antiviral activity of plitidepsin against SARS-CoV-2 is mediated through inhibition of the known target eEF1A. We demonstrate the in vivo efficacy of plitidepsin treatment in two mouse models of SARS-CoV-2 infection with a reduction of viral replication in the lungs by two orders of magnitude using prophylactic treatment.https://science.sciencemag.org/content/early/2021/01/22/science.abf4058

Biden Team to Buy 200 Million More Doses, Speed Up Vaccinations
By Josh Wingrove (https://www.bloomberg.com/authors/ASLqWCO-Zh4/josh-wingrove)

Government to ship more doses to states for next three weeks
Biden complains vaccine program ‘in worse shape’ than expected
President Joe Biden said his administration intends to order 100 million more doses each of Pfizer Inc. (https://www.bloomberg.com/quote/PFE:US) and Moderna Inc. (https://www.bloomberg.com/quote/MRNA:US)’s coronavirus vaccines, and at least temporarily speed up shipments to states to about 10 million doses a week.
The new purchases would increase total U.S. orders for the two approved vaccines by 50%, to about 600 million shots, according to a senior administration official -- a supply that it expects to have available by the end of the summer, and which would be enough for 300 million people.
Delivering a minimum 10 million doses to states would represent about a 16% increase from the current weekly pace, though the higher pace may only last three weeks and it’s not clear where the new doses are coming from. The government also plans to give states better forecasts of forthcoming shipments -- three weeks’ worth, up from one week now.

Oh yeah. Im not contagious anymore but still monitoring some of the side effects. If you guys get this make sure you do bloodwork. The covid doesn't just attack the lungs. Im still on blood thinners and get tired easily...still having a nagging cough but not the convulsive coughing up chunks like at the start. Kind of feel like superman now that I have antibodies for a few months. Over the fear factor.

You probably have immunity for quite sometime. Some of the people infected with the first SARs virus in 03 are still immune as of 2020. Just depends on all these pesky variants and if they can slow the sh1t down, finally.

I saw a show about long covid and they said one of the things that many of them had in common was trying to push themselves physically to get back to normal after their initial illness. So they thought that might have something to do increasing the risk of long covid. Chill the fuck out for awhile was their recommendation.

I felt the same after I had it. Now it's been almost a year and I didn't have a strong antibody response so now I'm like shit I hope I don't get it again. I wouldn't care if I could be sure I would just get the gastro only version of the disease again but I don't want to be hacking my lungs out.
I had an opportunity to jump the line and get vaccinated with tier 1 but I didn't want to take a dose from someone more at risk. Now that my wife is fully vaccinated she is on cloud 9 and I keep thinking "fuck I should've jumped the line" :lol

That's a long standing theoretical debate. Mostly people who don't have any medical liability say let the fever burn because that's what your body wants to do. Mostly people with medical liability say nice idea but sometimes fevers burn out of control and kill you so I'm going to treat the fever.

I think the same is true with 95%, you can still get infected, and feel like shit, esp if heavily infected, for a day or more while the immune system, innate and acquired, attacks the virus, but will not progress to serious symptoms.
It sounds to me like vaccinated people could still get infected, have symptoms like some people do after 2nd shot.

New data showing that two COVID-19 vaccines are far less effective in South Africa than in other places they were tested have heightened fears that the coronavirus is quickly finding ways to elude the world’s most powerful tools to contain it.
The U.S. company Novavax reported this week that although its vaccine was nearly 90% effective in clinical trials conducted in Britain, the figure fell to 49% in South Africa — and that nearly all the infections the company analyzed in South Africa involved the B.1.351 variant that emerged there late last year and has spread to the United States and at least 30 other countries.
Johnson & Johnson announced Friday that its new shot was 72% effective against preventing moderate or severe illness in the United States, compared with 66% in Latin America and 57% in South Africa.

The research and development of the vaccine were paid for (https://www.citizen.org/news/statement-moderna-vaccine-belongs-to-the-people/) by our U.S. taxpayer dollars, to the tune of $2.5 billion.
This isn’t Modern’s vaccine.
It is the people’s vaccine, and it’s time for the law to reflect that.
Currently, Moderna has a Trump-granted monopoly on the vaccine.
That means that they are the only company allowed to manufacture it.
The only reason there is a shortage of vaccines (https://www.laprogressive.com/warp-speed-covid-vaccine/) is that we allow this one company to create that shortage.

Just part of a guess but Im thinking the indoor air conditioning (that they dont have) and spending time outside which is more prevalent.
It becomes more apparent this virus spreads very well in dry air which most colder air is. Inside, even better.
They must have some cities with colder environs inside with people coming and going. I would like to see the comparisons.
I am also very surprised. The probably also dont have accurate numbers... but still.

U.S. FDA gearing up for rapid review of potential COVID-19 booster shots
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration is planning a rapid review process for quick turnaround of new COVID-19 booster shots if variants of the coronavirus emerge against which the vaccines do not provide protection,
if new variants of the coronavirus emerge that require booster shots or changes to vaccines,
the agency will not require the type of large trials that were required for emergency use authorization or approval.
Pfizer Inc and German partner BioNTech SE as well as Moderna Inc, ... have said they are preparing for the possibility that variants will emerge that could require a booster shot.

Threat posed by South African COVID-19 strain likely to boost J&J’s vaccine application
Johnson & Johnson's vaccine has the highest proven efficacy against a worrisome virus variant
When drug regulators meet later this month to decide whether to let Johnson & Johnson roll out the nation’s third COVID-19 vaccine,
the pharmaceutical giant will almost certainly tout an increasingly important selling point:
its one-shot vaccine has the highest proven efficacy against a worrisome virus variant that emerged in South Africa and has reached the United States.
That’s the view of several vaccine experts interviewed after the government of South Africa this week abandoned plans to use a rival vaccine developed by AstraZeneca and the University of Oxford.

Its a worldwide pandemicA few countries successfully contained it; many have done a better job at managing their caseload, mitigating the chance that COVID-19 would become endemic. The US isn't one of those countries.
The US not a COVID-19 leader in a good way, we're the still the epicenter of the ease. Not uniquely bad in the global context, but only four countries with more than 20 million people have had more deaths per million.

In terms of deaths yes US is pathetic
But in terms of oreventing the disease bevoming endemic, 95%+ countries in the world failed at this.
Sure US is to blame at top of the list as they should have led the world and organized everyone being the richest country in the world.
Instead US pathetically failed in the leadership role. Europe is a close 2nd. Pathetic utterly inept bastards. The West has proven they alone cannot lead the world. We need multipolarity bringing in china, russia, etc to share leadership roles.

This not attending school has very long tendrils that reach into economics, mental health, effective learning, etc...
I would delay school until we can get the kids back in, go into that next summer if necessary. This is way too hard on families.

Humidity is inversely correlated with COVID-19 transmissibility. We also know masking mitigates viral load, which has been correlated with disease severity. Because masking hydrates the respiratory tract and promotes mucociliary clearance of pathogens from the lungs, masking may have therapeutic value post-infection as well.

Reports of Anaphylaxis After Receipt of mRNA COVID-19 Vaccines in the US—December 14, 2020-January 18, 2021 (https://jamanetwork.com/journals/jama/fullarticle/2776557)
Continued safety monitoring of mRNA COVID-19 vaccines in the US has confirmed that anaphylaxis following vaccination is a rare event, with rates of 4.7 cases/million Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine doses administered and 2.5 cases/million Moderna vaccine doses administered, based on information through January 18, 2021. When considered in the context of morbidity and mortality from COVID-19,the benefits of vaccination far outweigh the risk of anaphylaxis, which is treatable. Because of the acute, life-threatening nature of anaphylaxis, immediate epinephrine administration is indicated for all cases.

The COVID-19 vaccines are proving incredibly effective.
Here's why experts are downplaying the success.
getting the first dose reduced the risk of hospitalization by up to 85 percent and 94 percent (https://twitter.com/SkyNews/status/1363798720144408578), respectively, after four weeks —
even as a new, more transmissible variant became dominant.
Still, the message a lot of people hear about the vaccines, ... is that
"the coronavirus vaccines aren't 100 percent effective.
Vaccinated people may still be contagious.
And the virus variants may make everything worse. ...
The vaccine is not a get-out-of-COVID-free card!"
That type of "vaccine alarmism" ...
feeding the sizable share of Americans who say they would turn down a vaccine "partly because it sounds so ineffectual."

Johnson & Johnson’s one-shot COVID-19 vaccine appears to provide more protection against worrisome virus variants than the drug giant initially reported,
according to new trial data released in advance of a Friday advisory panel meeting on whether to recommend the vaccine as the third cleared for emergency use in the US.
Company briefing documents posted on the Food and Drug Administration website Wednesday indicate
the vaccine was 68 percent effective at preventing moderate to severe disease caused by the dominant variant in Brazil and
