I went to my local AMC to see Tenet a month ago on a Friday night. The place was a ghost town. I don't know how they're going to survive this.

Masks aren't the problem. Trump's response to the virus is the issue. He fucked up and everybody's paying the price.

My wife and I saw that one too.
We went back about two weeks ago, and found out that someone who had booked a theater had canceled, so the manager let my wife and I have it to ourselves, and let us pick a Halloween movie to watch. It was fun.
You can rent out an entire theater for less than a hundred bucks.

Is the theater rental limited to one movie or can you do a double feature? Also, what's their movie selection like? Is it just movies released this year and last year.

You can bring in a DVD of your choosing. So the selection is pretty unlimited. :D

Microsoft says hackers backed by Russia and North Korea
targeted COVID-19 vaccine makers
The technology giant said Friday that
the attacks targeted seven companies in the U.S., Canada, France, India, and South Korea.
But while it blocked the “majority” of the attacks,
Microsoft acknowledged that some were successful.

Realize states have very recently ramped up testing so even though the total infection rate is likely higher per capita much of the increased positive cases is due to increased testing.
Free COVID-19 Testing Now Open to All Residents, With or Without Symptoms
LOS ANGELES — Mayor Eric Garcetti announced today that L.A. will be the first big city in America to offer wide-scale, free COVID-19 testing to all residents, whether or not they are experiencing symptoms of the virus. "science-based" is a sell word too.
NEW YORKERS ARE still puzzling over a new, state-wide rule (https://twitter.com/NYGovCuomo/status/1326597493723893766) that bars, restaurants, and gyms must close at 10 pm to stop the spread of Covid. Was this based on some brand-new evidence that the virus mutates like a gremlin (https://twitter.com/vanae718/status/1326687491605278723), getting worse (https://twitter.com/EmilyAnthes/status/1326640337008406528) at night? You wouldn’t know it from Governor Andrew Cuomo’s announcement, which did not cite any research whatsoever that might justify this policy. The announcement did claim (https://www.governor.ny.gov/news/audio-rush-transcript-governor-cuomo-announces-restaurants-bars-other-sla-licensed-entities), however, that New York uses “more science than any state in the nation.”
I’ve seen this happen again and again since the start of the pandemic: a new, “science-based” Covid-19 measure is prescribed, but the science in support of it is either vague or missing altogether. Just last week, for example, I was working on a story about the latest research into quarantine procedures. The best data to this point suggests that an eight-day stretch (https://elemental.medium.com/new-science-suggests-how-to-shorten-quarantine-7cad61243428) of quarantine, combined with a Covid test, provides the same level of protection as the traditional 14-day quarantine. But then I saw New York state’s new policy: Some people who arrived from out of state are allowed to quarantine for just four days (https://coronavirus.health.ny.gov/covid-19-travel-advisory). I asked New York’s Department of Health how they’d come to this decision, and they sent me another statement (https://www.governor.ny.gov/news/audio-rush-transcript-governor-cuomo-updates-new-yorkers-states-progress-during-covid-19-16) from Cuomo, in which he said only that he’d “worked with global health experts” on the plan. A formal guidance (https://coronavirus.health.ny.gov/system/files/documents/2020/11/interm_guidance_travel_advisory.pdf) from the state health department gave no research citations, either, but it did find space to boast about New York’s record of “strict adherence to data-driven, evidence-based protocols.”

Winehole23
11-20-2020, 08:58 AM
A lack of transparency has even shown up in guidance from the World Health Organization. Back in March, I emailed the headquarters in Geneva to ask how they felt so certain at the time that the SARS-Cov-2 coronavirus was not “airborne (https://www.wired.com/story/they-say-coronavirus-isnt-airborne-but-its-definitely-borne-by-air/).” The press office responded to my questions with a pair of unhelpful scientific (https://www.who.int/docs/default-source/coronaviruse/who-china-joint-mission-on-covid-19-final-report.pdf) documents (http://weekly.chinacdc.cn/en/article/id/e53946e2-c6c4-41e9-9a9b-fea8db1a8f51). In that case, the decision to omit (or ignore) existing research—which suggested that other coronaviruses are likely to be spread by air—might well have been a deadly mistake.

Big Pharma could supply the whole world with a COVID vaccine.
They've chosen not to
The pandemic could end soon for rich countries — but not for developing ones. This is Big Pharma's doing
Now, as these vaccines inch closer to the finish line, I am once again fearful that how we choose to ramp up manufacturing —
and who we decide should be first in line to receive the vaccine — is revealing a darker side of humanity.
For starters, many vaccine doses have already been
pre-pledged :lol
to rich countries.
The Trump administration awarded Moderna and Pfizer billion-dollar contracts in exchange for 100 million doses of their vaccine.
human rights groups have reported that
82% of Pfizer's vaccine supply has already been purchased by a handful of rich countries representing 14% of the global population;
for Moderna, 78% of the doses have been pre-purchased for 12% of the population.
if governments were serious about reaching everybody on the planet,
they could force the pharma companies receiving these billion-dollar contracts to relinquish all patent rights.
Not only has this not happened, but the pharma companies are pulling out all the stops to make sure it won't.
the WHO started the COVID-19 Technology Access Pool (C-TAP),
which includes the Open Covid Pledge, whereby businesses can donate their patents, technology and know-how to help fight the pandemic.
no pharma company developing a COVID-19 vaccine has voluntarily contributed to the Open Covid Pledge.
This includes not only the patents to the vaccines,
but also to all the supporting technology around delivering the vaccines.
Moderna is exceptional so far in the COVID vaccine race because they have said
they will waive all patent rights during the course of the pandemic.
The governments and health bodies (looking at you, Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation) that bankrolled these pharma companies with billions of dollars had a choice.
They could have stipulated clearly and transparently in their contracts with these drug companies that
all patents for COVID-19 are to be publicly owned and available to all.
They could have —
they just chose not to.

Covid-19: Oxford University vaccine is highly effective
Interim data suggests 70% protection, but
the researchers say the figure may be as high as 90% by tweaking the dose.
the Oxford jab is far cheaper, and is easier to store and get to every corner of the world than the other two.
So the vaccine will play a significant role in tackling the pandemic, if it is approved for use by regulators.

The drug aprotinin inhibits entry of SARS-CoV2 in host cells
the protease inhibitor aprotinin can inhibit virus replication by preventing SARS-CoV2 entry into host cells.
Moreover, aprotinin appears to compensate for a SARS-CoV2-induced reduction of endogenous protease inhibitors in virus-infected cells.
"Our findings show that aprotinin is effective against SARS-CoV2 in concentrations that can be achieved in patients.
In aprotinin we have a drug candidate for the treatment of COVID-19 that
is already approved for other indications and
could readily be tested in patients."

Of the vaccines so far, its probably the bestAstraZeneca getting their own protocol wrong and half-dosing 2700 patients by accident isn't a confidence builder, I guess we'll see how it all shakes out.
If a final analysis, conducted after the inclusion of additional data, concludes the vaccine’s actual efficacy is around 70%, that could be a problem.
“If it’s 70%, then we’ve got a dilemma,” said Fauci. “Because what are you going to do with the 70% when you’ve got two [vaccines] that are 95%? Who are you going to give a vaccine like that to?”
The problem was also flagged in an analysis by Geoffrey Porges of the investment bank Leerink. “We believe that this product will never be licensed in the US,” Porges wrote.
Fauci cautioned that full datasets — which the Oxford researchers said they intend to publish in a scientific journal — need to be pored over before conclusions can be drawn.

cool article about the smallpox epidemic of 1721-2 in Boston
On a November day in 1721, a small bomb was hurled through the window of a local Boston Reverend named Cotton Mather. Attached to the explosive, which fortunately did not detonate, was the message: “Cotton Mather, you dog, dam you! I’ll inoculate you with this; with a pox to you.’’ This was not a religiously motivated act of terrorism, but a violent response to Reverend Mather’s active promotion of smallpox inoculation. The smallpox epidemic that struck Boston in 1721 was one of the most deadly of the century in colonial America, but was also the catalyst for the first major application of preventative inoculation in the colonies. http://sitn.hms.harvard.edu/flash/special-edition-on-infectious-disease/2014/the-fight-over-inoculation-during-the-1721-boston-smallpox-epidemic/

The major genetic risk factor for severe COVID-19 is inherited from Neanderthals
A recent genetic association study1 (https://www.nature.com/articles/s41586-020-2818-3#ref-CR1) identified a gene cluster on chromosome 3 as
a risk locus for respiratory failure after infection with severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2).
A separate study (COVID-19 Host Genetics Initiative)2 (https://www.nature.com/articles/s41586-020-2818-3#ref-CR2) comprising 3,199 hospitalized patients with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) and control individuals showed that
this cluster is the major genetic risk factor for severe symptoms after SARS-CoV-2 infection and hospitalization.
Here we show that the risk is conferred by a genomic segment of around 50 kilobases in size that is inherited from Neanderthals and is
carried by around 50% of people in south Asia and
around 16% of people in Europe.

At the time of this writing, the United States currently maintains the highest number of Covid-19 deaths and ranks 11th for the highest deaths per capita. There have been approximately 262,000 recorded Covid-19 deaths in the United States, which is certainly a concerning number.
However, a new study (link removed or site crashed but now available at Archive.org) published by Dr. Genevieve Briand at Johns Hopkins University notes some critical accounting errors done at the national level. The study – which is still being vetted – simply examines the raw data that should have been questioned months ago. The overall conclusion is that Covid-19, at least according to collected data, is not the killer disease that it is currently hyped up to be. AIER is not endorsing the study as is without further study, but we are interested in the argument being examined and discussed

Genevieve Briand is the Assistant Director for MS in Applied Economics program. She has taught for the Applied Economics Program since summer, 2015, and currently teaches Microeconomic Theory, Statistics, and Econometrics. She has many years of experience teaching numerous and varied economics and statistics courses. Her fields of interest are microeconomics and econometrics.

According to this graph constructed using data provided by the CDC from the last 6 years, total deaths have remained relatively constant and increases can be explained by various factors such as a larger population. The spikes in deaths in 2020 are consistent with historical trends, only topping 2018 by 11,292 deaths. There have been over 262,000 deaths attributed to Covid-19 in the United States, yet total deaths have not increased in any alarming capacity; they have only mirrored existing trends. In short, according to 6 years of data collected by the CDC, Covid-19 has not led to any significant increase in deaths

What is even more interesting if not more alarming is that the spike in recorded Covid-19 deaths seen in 2020 has coincided with a proportional decrease in death from other diseases.

“This suggests, according to Briand, that the COVID-19 death toll is misleading. Briand believes that deaths due to heart diseases, respiratory diseases, influenza and pneumonia may instead be recategorized as being due to COVID-19.”

This aligns with many other well-established facts about the virus, such as those with comorbidities are the most at risk. According to the CDC, about 94% of Covid deaths occur with comorbidities. This suggests that it could be possible that a large number of deaths could have been mainly due to more serious ailments such as heart disease but categorized as a Covid-19 death, a far less lethal disease

A closer look at U.S. deaths due to COVID-19
By YANNI GU | November 27, 2020
Editor’s Note: After The News-Letter published this article on Nov. 22, it was brought to our attention that our coverage of Genevieve Briand’s presentation “COVID-19 Deaths: A Look at U.S. Data” has been used to support dangerous inaccuracies that minimize the impact of the pandemic.
We decided on Nov. 26 to retract this article to stop the spread of misinformation, as we noted on social media. However, it is our responsibility as journalists to provide a historical record. We have chosen to take down the article from our website, but it is available here as a PDF.
In accordance with our standards for transparency, we are sharing with our readers how we came to this decision. The News-Letter is an editorially and financially independent, student-run publication. Our articles and content are not endorsed by the University or the School of Medicine, and our decision to retract this article was made independently.
Briand’s study should not be used exclusively in understanding the impact of COVID-19, but should be taken in context with the countless other data published by Hopkins, the World Health Organization and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
As assistant director for the Master’s in Applied Economics program at Hopkins, Briand is neither a medical professional nor a disease researcher. At her talk, she herself stated that more research and data are needed to understand the effects of COVID-19 in the U.S.
Briand was quoted in the article as saying, “All of this points to no evidence that COVID-19 created any excess deaths. Total death numbers are not above normal death numbers.” This claim is incorrect and does not take into account the spike in raw death count from all causes compared to previous years. According to the CDC, there have been almost 300,000 excess deaths due to COVID-19. Additionally, Briand presented data of total U.S. deaths in comparison to COVID-19-related deaths as a proportion percentage, which trivializes the repercussions of the pandemic. This evidence does not disprove the severity of COVID-19; an increase in excess deaths is not represented in these proportionalities because they are offered as percentages, not raw numbers.
Briand also claimed in her analysis that deaths due to heart diseases, respiratory diseases, influenza and pneumonia may be incorrectly categorized as COVID-19-related deaths. However, COVID-19 disproportionately affects those with preexisting conditions, so those with those underlying conditions are statistically more likely to be severely affected and die from the virus.
Because of these inaccuracies and our failure to provide additional information about the effects of COVID-19, The News-Letter decided to retract this article. It is our duty as a publication to combat the spread of misinformation and to enhance our fact-checking process. We apologize to our readers.

Doctors Use Existing Treatment Earlier To Save The Lives Of Covid-19 Patients
“We show that Continuous Positive Airway Pressure (CPAP) in the first days of hospitalisation
seems to save between 10% to 20% of patients.
However it is important to underline that this was a pilot study with a small sample size, although comforting evidence is starting to emerge elsewhere.”
Using CPAP treatment, which is often used at home to help people with sleep problems, helps to keep the lungs open and makes breathing easier.
“When you use CPAP early in the admission it stops the patient getting worse,
therefore avoiding invasive ventilation techniques.
As CPAP is readily available and can be used in a ward setting,
we have demonstrated that, when used early,
it can be very effective way of treating severe COVID-19 pneumonia.

This is why I have trouble trusting drug companies. Will be interesting to hear their response to how they screwed this up. Sounds like they might have to do another trial.

Covid Profits of Pharmaceutical Monopolies vs Peoples’ Lives
there’s been pretty much no coverage in the Western business press of the Médicines Sans Frontières proposal before the WTO,
supported by 99 member states, to waive intellectual property protections for Covid-19 related medications, tests, and equipment.
“Monopolies are often an obstacle between people and the lifesaving health tools they need.
[Intellectual property like]patents and other exclusivities limit supply and keep prices high.
In this unprecedented global emergency, governments have taken an incredibly strong stance at the World Trade Organization (WTO),
proposing to allow countries to temporarily waive the obligations of enforcing patents, trade secrets, and other types of intellectual property (IP) during the COVID 19 pandemic so that everyone everywhere has access to lifesaving treatments, vaccines, tests and medical tools needed to beat back this pandemic.”
99 of the WTO’s 164 Member States currently back the proposal :lol guess? only the poor countries
IP obstacles impact access to essential medical products that go way beyond patents on vaccines and pose a barrier to COVID-19 technologies in both developed and developing countries.
in the Netherlands, there was a shortage of testing materials because
often the diagnostic infrastructure, the testing or the diagnostic, is dependent on proprietary materials.
And in the case of Netherlands early on they were unable to ramp up the testing because Roche was unable to supply the relevant materials.
the business as usual approaches of pharma companies is hindering access.
in Italy, early on in the pandemic, an Italian hospital ran out of ventilator valves. And their regular supplier was unable to provide those valves. So two local engineers reverse engineered and 3D printed the valves.
So the original price of the original valves was 11,000 Euros but the 3D printed valves were as low as $1. And they supplied the Italian hospitals.
the local engineers were unable to scale up to do more 3D printing because of potential legal issues arising from intellectual property rights.
the Governor of Kentucky urged 3M, the holder of the pattern for masks/ N95 masks to release its patent because 3M was unable to provide sufficient supplies.
that has not happened. So there is a shortage there as well of N95 masks.
A major issue is a lot of the R&D [Research and Development] right now is being driven by public investment and there are no strings attached to this this investment.
So pharmaceutical companies are accepting large amounts of sums from taxpayers and
they don’t not have any commitments to share the technology, know how and related intellectual property.

0 deaths. Cases don't mean anything they do not exclusively test for live virus. They are testing for SARS-CoV-2 not the covid disease.

Already, before they announce progress (aka insider information), C-suite buys stock, they announce progress, stocks rise, huge gains, money for nothing.

BREAKING NEWS ALERT
Cambridge biotech Moderna said it will ask federal regulators Monday to authorize emergency use of its experimental COVID-19 vaccine, after complete results from a late-stage study showed the substance was
94.1 percent effective at preventing the disease and
100 percent effective at warding off severe cases.
The final efficacy results from a clinical trial of 30,000 volunteers
were almost identical to an interim analysis released by the company two weeks ago.
The latest data set the stage for the possibility that at least two vaccines will be
available on a limited basis in the US by the end of the year.

The Race to Make Vials for Coronavirus Vaccines
A Corning factory in upstate New York is running around the clock to help meet the urgent demand.

After many months in which the covid-19 pandemic has brought misery to much of the world, new vaccines will soon be ready for distribution.
Getting them to people who need them will require
more than a billion vials to be manufactured, filled, and shipped,
at top speed and in some cases under extreme stress.
Standard medical vials—made of borosilicate—often break as they’re filled, and just one damaged vial can ruin a batch of doses and stop a production line.

Pfizer has cut it its production target in half:
Pfizer has said in recent weeks that it anticipates producing 50 million doses of its COVID-19 vaccine this year. That is down from an earlier target of 100 million doses. Pfizer’s vaccine relies on a two dose regimen, meaning 50 million doses is enough to inoculate 25 million people.
A company spokeswoman said the “scale-up of the raw material supply chain took longer than expected.” She also cited later-than-expected results from Pfizer’s clinical trial as a reason for the smaller number of doses expected to be produced by the end of 2020.

Rapid Antigen Tests Are Effective, Cheap, and Could Quash the Pandemic Within Weeks (In Theory)
the rapid antigen test, which functionally measures infectiousness — rather than infection — and which is
extremely cheap and easy to use.
Mina argued (https://time.com/5912705/covid-19-stop-spread-christmas/) that large-scale deployment could stop the spread of COVID-19 by Christmas — many months before even the most optimistic timeline of vaccine rollout could be completed.
we really are not using many rapid antigen tests at all.
Slovakia has had exceptional results. They rolled out exactly the kind of testing program I’ve been pushing, though not at-home testing. They asked half of their country to get tested over a weekend and then did that three weekends in a row. Within a few weeks, they saw incidents drop by like 50 percent.
They had an increasing epidemic. It was exponentially increasing. And they just squashed it. Which makes sense. They found a lot of positives all at once and they stopped all of those positives from transmitting to others.
Every college in New England that’s doing frequent testing. You know, it doesn’t matter if it was PCR or antigen testing — it’s the frequency that really matters. What we’ve seen is that
where there is frequent testing, outbreaks just aren’t happening.
That’s 1.5 million being produced right now. You’d like to see 10 or 20 million per day, I think, right?
I think we could be seeing many, many more of them available
if there was actually some agency in the government behind it, :lol
but that’s kind of where things are at.

Therapeutically administered ribonucleoside analogue MK-4482/EIDD-2801 blocks SARS-CoV-2 transmission in ferrets.
We demonstrate high SARS-CoV-2 burden in nasal tissues and secretions, which coincided with efficient transmission through direct contact. Therapeutic treatment of infected animals with MK-4482/EIDD-2801 twice a day significantly reduced the SARS-CoV-2 load in the upper respiratory tract and completely suppressed spread to untreated contact animals. This study identified oral MK-4482/EIDD-2801 as a promising antiviral countermeasure to break SARS-CoV-2 community transmission chainshttps://www.nature.com/articles/s41564-020-00835-2

If most people in the lower age groups don't get sick at all or only get mildly sick, it's better to catch covid and get natural immunity than to get the vaccine which might have side effects.
Are you familiar with the studies that show permanent organ damage for people with mild symptoms? The incidence isn't trivial. COVID-19 is a vascular disease too.

Ivermectin, topically applied in the nose and mouth, is starting to look like a legit therapy.
If we consider the following facts:
1) Drops and sprays are a major source of human-to-human transmission.
2) The sources mentioned above depend on different sizes of saliva droplets.
3) The contagion comes from symptomatic and asymptomatic patients.
4) The proportion of asymptomatic patients exceeds 30% of all cases.
5) The concentration of ivermectin and carrageenan is adequate in the nasal mucus and salivary glands.
6) The combined oral solution can offer double protection: on the one hand, it reduces the spread and, on the other hand, it reduces the viral load.
7) Both (ivermectin and carrageenan) are present in the international pharmacopoeia, and their use is widely accepted.
8) Their respective “off label” applications do not involve any risk.
9) Health Personnel are constantly at risk of contagion, thus locking down all their co-workers, and preventing the community from the access to appropriate health care.
We conclude that by using ivermectin in oral solution and carrageenan in nasal spray form, we are providing an inexpensive, safe and effective means to protect people from contagion and serious forms of the disease.

Ivermectin, topically applied in the nose and mouth, is starting to look like a legit therapy.

Vitamin D is the one you called pretty early that really should be promoted by public health officials. Plenty of science now to show that vitamin D levels > 40 ng/ml reduce serious illness by a lot (up to 70% I think it was).
I was surprised to learn that testing vitamin D levels isn't done by so many doctors.

So much potential benefit with very low risk. I was taking 2000 IU/day in summer. I'm taking 4000/day now.
What do you think about Ivermectin?

TWIV guys discuss it in the video I just posted to Winehole.
Just after that they talk about the vaccine which is worth listening to.
Yeah I'm taking 3000-4000 IU/day now that it's winter.

Interesting that it's less than the mRNA vaccines since Sinovac is the inactivated SARS-CoV-2 virus vaccine.

The one for horses is if you want apple flavored, for beef flavor you'll need to get the one for dogs.

seemingly every belief/opinion that you share is right wing. that you go do bongino for actual information instead of parody is also telling

Shapiro talks way too fast, seems like a debater, like Hitchens without the clever one liners and polished retorts (and slow, perfect speech pattern and English accent). He doesn't strike me as someone who says things based on facts, but based on popularity of commentary.

"When I looked at it, I thought it was actually not very evidence based," says Michelle Gong, MD, chief of the Division of Critical Care Medicine at Montefiore Health System in New York City. "It is not something I would recommend for my doctors to do outside of a clinical trial."
The protocol authors push back against the necessity and feasibility of randomized control trials.
There is no time for a randomized control trial right now, says Jose Iglesias, DO, associate professor at Hackensack Meridian School of Medicine at Seton Hall and critical care specialist at Community Medical Center and Jersey Shore University Medical Center in New Jersey. "Time is limited. We're busy bedside clinicians taking care of patients, and patients who are dying."

https://covid19criticalcare.com/i-mask-prophylaxis-treatment-protocol/i-mask-protocol-translations/Nothing too exotic there besides the off-label Ivermectin. Looks like you need a prescription for that. Having looked it up and skimmed over a few things, I'd definitely want to talk to my doc before taking it. Everything else there is an OTC supplement or standard advice to mask up and social distance.
I see no info about Quercitin under the "Medical evidence" tab at the link you posted, what does it do for COVID? it's a bit of a red flag for me that FLCCC Alliance would recommend it without including any information about what it does for COVID-19 on its website.
